The Islamic State has threatened the USA in the past as the image at the beginning of this post shows.  While the Islamic State may well cause significant damage to targets in the USA, its Paris attack, combined with its other threats may have reached a tipping point where the West will decide to more directly confront it militarily.

Notice the following from World News Daily (WND):

France goes to war with ISIS: Start of World War 3?

Reports are coming in that on Monday France will invoke Article 5 of the NATO Mutual Defense Treaty. NATO’s collective defense clause compels all NATO members – including America – to fight alongside France against ISIS. …

If France involkes Article 5, it is essentially declaring war, not just an authorization for the use of military force.

However the situation is complicated by the fact that ISIS is based in Syria.

“Russia is defending Syria to assist Syrian President Bashar Assad,” notes SuperStation95. “When NATO goes to get ISIS, they will necessarily have to go into Syria … where Russia is defending. Will Russia relent and let NATO attack? Or will Russia decide this NATO action is a thinly disguised effort to unseat Bashar Assad, and cause Russia to battle NATO?”  …

Tertrais noted that Paris-style attacks could happen in every major Western city.

“It does not really come as a surprise,” he said. “All the intelligence services and police knew that a major attack of the kind we had [on Friday] was not only possible, but almost likely. It is the kind of attack that police has tried to prevent for several years now, but it was absolutely not a surprise. Of course, it was a huge shock, especially because of the simultaneous nature of the attacks and the fact that for the first time ever, we had suicide bombers operating on the national territory.  …

Many Protestant prophecy watchers suspect that now with the involvement of Russia in the Middle East and the increased willingness of the West to fight Islamic terrorists that WWIII is about to start.  Some have concluded that the ‘Bible Code’ is showing this is about to happen (watch Russia, Iran, Syria, & the Bible (Code)).

That is NOT the case.

However, what is happening is that the Europeans are getting a wake-up call that they have massive differences with the Muslims and that there are enough terrorists in the Islamic world that Europe needs to deal with this differently than it has in the past.  One of those differences will be that Europe will develop more of its military, beyond what many in the world think it will (cf. Revelation 13:4).

The Bible shows that it will ultimately be a European military power, referred to as the King of the North, who will defeat an end-time power based in the Islamic-dominated nations in the Middle East and North Africa led by the King of the South:

40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels.  (Daniel 11:40-43)

And what of the USA?

The Bible shows that the Europeans and the Arabs will make one or more deals that are intended to eliminate it (Psalm 83:3-8; Daniel 11:27).  The Bible teaches that it will be hit by more terrorism (cf. Leviticus 26:14-17; Deuteronomy 32:25; Ezekiel 21:12; Psalms 73:12,19; Proverbs 1:25-27; Ecclesiastes 12:5).

The Bible also shows that the USA will be defeated militarily before a coming North African/Middle East power will:

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain.   (Daniel 11:39)

In the 21st century, it is the USA that has the strongest fortresses.  The ‘he’ above is the King of the North.  The fulfillment of Daniel 11:39 is what could be considered as WWIII (see also World War III: Steps in Progress), not the current battle against the Islamic State.

However, until the time for Daniel 11:39 is here, the USA will likely continue to cooperate more and more with the Europeans (though with some problems as well).  This cooperation will include taking steps against the Islamic State.

Eventually after more conflict, there will come a significant, but temporal peace, in the Middle East (see The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).  Many will think that the apparent cooperation between the USA, Europe, the Arab World, likely Russia, Israel, and others was successful.

But that will end per Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 39, 40-43, 44.  When it does, many will be caught in surprise:

3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.  (1 Thessalonians 5:3-7)

Right now we are seeing events align for international cooperation, but not all of that cooperation will last as long as most believe.  God’s people need to watch and be sober as we see conflict and other matters going on in the world.
