ICG and the Press on ‘puppet-master,’ ‘Monster,’ and ‘Beast’ Martin Selmayr

Last night, ICG newsletter sent out the following in Mark Armstrong’s Weekly Letter of February 8, 2019:
We probably should have known that the bumbling Jean-Claude Junker was neither the brains nor the primary driver of European Union policy. No, the puppet master is Martin Selmayr, now Secretary General of the European Commission, formerly a German civil servant. He is described as the most powerful and feared individual in Europe. He’s played hardball with Britain, making an exit from the EU all but impossible, demanding 39 billion pounds as the price of withdrawal.
He’s described as fervently anti-American. He’s dead serious about an EU army. He was instrumental in the deal that handed Germany the leading role in the European Union. Even members of the European Parliament are fearful of this guy, and are afraid that he has taken over.
He intends to make of the EU the kind of supranational/globalist entity, the United States of Europe that sounds very much like the kind of power foretold in Bible prophecy. He was the individual behind what has been called the German takeover of Europe and its institutions. His grandfathers on both sides were generals under Hitler. No wonder Brexit hit a wall.

Selmayr has a reputation for behaving like a bull in a China shop. With the risk of no deal looming, one can only wonder why Ireland, the Benelux, Germany and France – who are risking a lot of damage, for which they are insufficiently prepared – tolerate a hardliner in charge who’s making this prospect more likely.
Until recently, Selmayr served as European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s chief of staff. His recent appointment to the top levels of the European Commission, bypassing seasoned eurocrats, ‘could be viewed as a coup-like action’, according to the European Parliament, and did ‘not follow EU law or the Commission’s own rules’ according to the European Ombudsman. The European Parliament has stopped short of questioning the appointment, perhaps fearing the troublesome ways its own top officials are appointed would be reassessed. …
When it comes to Brexit, Martin Selmayr has been regularly accused of complicating the negotiations unnecessarily. British officials have accused him of wanting to ‘punish’ the UK for leaving the EU, which he apparently considers to be a ‘tragedy’ that will, however, re-energise the European project as a case study in the essential value of the Union.

Nigel Farage launched a scathing attack on Martin Selmayr, claiming it “could not be clearer” that the UK will not pay £39 billion to the EU in a no-deal Brexit scenario. During the rant, Mr Farage also told the European Commission Secretary General to “go and sling your hook”. …

To the European Union’s detractors, his appointment epitomises all that is wrong with Brussels — while the man himself represents the faceless power behind a faceless throne.
Martin Selmayr’s name is still little known among all but the most avid followers of EU business. But he is now the top civil servant in the Commission. And in Brussels, he has been the talk of the town for weeks.
The 47-year-old German, a lawyer by profession, had been chief of staff to Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker for about three and a half years. Last month he was appointed Secretary-General of the Commission in circumstances that took the breath away of many observers. …
The Beast of the Berlaymont
Martin Selmayr’s nickname (there are others, too), a reference to the Brussels building that houses the Commission, illustrates the aura surrounding him.
Having joined the European Commission as a press officer, he helped run Juncker’s successful campaign to become president. His style of management has been called “heavy-handed” and “abrasive”; a former Commission vice-president described the partnership with his boss as “poisonous”.
As Juncker’s chief of staff, Selmayr earned a reputation for getting the backs up of European commissioners, blocking legislation and upsetting negotiations, and picking fights with national government officials.
He is credited for being behind policies such as the EU’s decision to cap mobile phone roaming charges and toughen up its privacy laws. For a true believer in democracy, Martin Selmayr runs the European Commission not as some curator of debate but like the merciless hand of a king, who will stop at nothing to protect his vision of the realm: Europe, united and free.
Make that an extremely heavy hand. Or maybe an armored bulldozer. …
His peers in power say they cannot trust him. Subordinates say they fear him. …

Last year, Der Spiegel ran the headline The Most Powerful Bureaucrat in EU History? about him.

MEPs have said that the appointment of Martin Selmayr as European Commission secretary general was a “coup-like action” but they will not ask for his resignation.
“The two-steps nomination of the secretary general constitutes a coup-like action which stretched and possibly even overstretched the limits of the law,” says the draft of a European Parliament resolution published on Wednesday (28 March). https://euobserver.com/institutional/141484
We see that Martin Selmayr rose to power in a way that many think should not have been allowed to happen in the EU.
Interestingly, Bible prophecy tells of a coming European leader who will be Europe’s most powerful of all time, who will get power in an unusual way, and the Bible calls him the Beast:
23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. (Daniel 11:23)
12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)
Now, I do NOT believe what happened with Martin Selmayr fulfills either of these prophecies.
Yet, there will be a coming reorganization for Europe to accept a dictator called the beast (see also Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).
What happened with Martin Selmayr only helps show that Europe may not always follow its expected procedures to get a leader.
Since Martin Selmayr is pushing for more European unity, he may be more involved with it in the future.
Whether ‘beast’ or ‘monster’ (translations may vary), the Bible tells of a powerful warring leader who will be the final European Beast of the sea in Revelation 13:
1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”(Revelation 13:4)
That sea mentioned in Revelation is the Mediterranean Sea as other scriptures prove (cf. Daniel 7:2-8; Numbers 34:6-7; Joshua 1:4; 9:1; 23:4; Ezekiel 47:13-16). Despite some false claims by some, the Beast power is not a nation like Russia, which does not border the Mediterranean Sea, but Europe which does (Russia, however, will be a factor in eliminating the European beast power, see also The Eurasian Union, the Kings of the East, and Bible Prophecy). A comparison of the beasts in Revelation 13 and Daniel 7 shows that they share many of the same characteristics (for some details, you may wish to watch the YouTube video Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?).
While I am not currently of the view that Martin Selmayr will be the prophesied “Beast of the Sea,” he may be one to watch.
Europe will turn into a dictatorship and people like Martin Selmayr may well be involved.
And yes, the UK will end up being terrorized by what will rise up in Europe.

Forbes’ Brexit Monster is the Beast of Revelation Various ones have been properly convinced that there is a plan for a European superstate. Forbes’ writer Tom Worstall wrote that the Brexit vote was about the United Kingdom “not joining the monster of the European Union to come.” The Bible tells of a Beast monster that will arise in the end times in Europe.
