BERLIN (Own report) – The German government has entered the new year with the announcement of new global policy ventures and a plea not to shy away from “difficult decisions” in international conflicts. Berlin must assume “responsibility” and seek “global solutions,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, sees Germany having been moved “even closer to the crises and conflicts” of the present day, by its two-year membership on the UN Security Council, which began January 1. Berlin seeks to use its seat on that body to impose a formulation of EU foreign policy and induce Paris to submit to joint activities described as “European.” In the meantime, there are appeals from within the Protestant Church for an expansion of Bundeswehr missions. Beginning January 1, the Bundeswehr, has assumed command, of NATO’s “Spearhead” intervention forces, which, within 72 hours, can be deployed anywhere on mission. …

The German government currently plans to use its seat on the UN Security Council primarily to promote the formulation of an EU foreign policy. For quite some time, Berlin has been demanding a permanent seat on this body. In accordance with the Berlin government’s coalition agreement, it is now demanding a seat for the EU on the council. In a public speech in Berlin in late November, Germany’s Minister of Finances, Olaf Scholz called on Paris to transform its permanent seat on the UN Security Council into a seat for the EU. …
At the Cutting Edge
While Foreign Minister Maas announces that he will place “also his themes on the agenda;” and Chancellor Merkel seeks to promote “global solutions,” the Bundeswehr assumes the command of NATO’s “Spearhead” forces on January 1. The establishment of the “Very High Readiness Joint Task Force” (VJTF) was initiated at the September 2014 NATO Summit. The force consists of around 8,000 soldiers, who, within 72 hours, can be deployed on mission anywhere. The Bundeswehr furnishes four thousand of those soldiers, while nearly another 1,000 have been placed at VJTF’s disposal from other organizational areas. Additional units are coming also from France, Norway, and the Netherlands. Germany wants a united, powerful, and influential Europe. Germany expects to lead it as well.
As we keep seeing, the Trump Administration continues to insult Europe. In addition to Donald Trump recently making statements such as “I don’t care about Europe” (see Donald Trump: ‘I don’t care about Europe,’ but he should . . . ), the Trump Administration decided to downgrade the EU delegation to the USA. And they did not tell the Europeans this until after the fact:

The Trump administration has downgraded the diplomatic status of the European Union’s delegation to the United States, an EU official has confirmed to DW. The demotion happened at the end of last year without notice.
The unannounced move by the US State Department, which has not previously been reported, downgraded the EU delegation’s diplomatic status in Washington from member state to international organization.
“We don’t exactly know when they did it, because they conveniently forgot to notify us,” an EU official who is familiar with the matter told DW in an interview.
“I can confirm that this has not been well received in Brussels,” the person said, adding that the issue and an official EU response was still being discussed.
After the delegation noticed that the EU’s Washington ambassador had not been invited to certain events late last year, officials organizing the state funeral for President George H.W. Bush provided final confirmation to EU diplomats that the status of the representation had in fact been downgraded. Europe will not forget these insults.
Now here is some information about Germany’s Bundeswehr:
As of 30 November 2018, the Bundeswehr has a strength of 180,997 active soldiers,[6] placing it among the 30 largest military forces in the world and making it the second largest in the European Union behind France in terms of personnel.[6] In addition the Bundeswehr has approximately 27,900 reserve personnel (2017).[7] With German military expenditures at €43.2 billion,[8] the Bundeswehr is among the top ten best-funded forces in the world …
The name Bundeswehr was first proposed by the former Wehrmacht general and Liberal politician Hasso von Manteuffel. The Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) is its official emblem. It is a symbol that has a long association with the military of Germany. (Bundeswehr. Wikipedia, accessed 01/08/19)
The cross is seen as an ecumenical and interfaith symbol (e.g. watch Beware of the ‘Ecumenical Cross’).
It was interesting that GFP made a big deal that a Protestant leader was supporting the expansion of Bundeswehr missions.
A church-state ecumenism is coming.
And yes, we in the Church of God have long expected ecumenical unity in Europe. Notice something that the old Worldwide Church of God published decades ago:
Attainable Union Sought
Some experts believe now that, in view of rapidly deteriorating world conditions, time simply does not permit the luxury of years of waiting for scholarly reports arrived at by snail-paced ecumenical commissions. Complete, structured church unity may be unattainable, they say, except perhaps for those bodies closest to the Roman Catholic center — the Orthodox, the Anglicans and the Lutherans.
Ranging out from this possible core, the looser goal of religious union, or close cooperation, may suffice. This is how the Religious Affairs correspondent of the Times of London, Clifford Longley, expressed his view of a less structured union:
“Unity so far has been debated as the search for common intellectual opinions on abstract details of faith; or as an organizational reform… [neither] of those go to the heart of the matter. The Christian unity being sought is not social or structural unity, but religious unity. Religiously rather than organizationally, the proper word for it is union rather than unity.”
However the unity — or looser union — is arrived at, a top official on the staff of Archbishop Runcie admitted that the Pope would enjoy a unique role as a front-line spokes man-like personality: “We Christians need to see a personal figure of unity. We see the value of one man…. So we are beginning to see the point of a Pope for the worldwide Christian churches — just so long as their traditions are not swallowed up in Roman Catholic traditions.”
A reunified church, however constituted, could eventually move in concert with other great religions of the world — and human governments as well — in a last-ditch effort to achieve world peace. Bible prophecy indicates the emergence of just such a future church-state effort in Europe, the continent most threatened with nuclear devastation. (Hogberg G. RELIGIOUS UNION Key to World Peace? I suspect that GFP emphasized the Protestant support of the Bundeswehr to show that there can be political, religious, and military unity in Europe.
According to biblical prophecy, a temporary unity under a militaristic Europe will occur.
The Bible teaches that Europe will reorganize under a military dictator (Revelation 13-3-4, 17:12-13; see also Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?)–presumably because the Europeans will believe this is needed for security, prosperity, and stability.
Despite claims from Protestant Joel Richardson, this Beast leader is NOT Islamic (see also Is There an Islamic Antichrist?), but European (cf. Isaiah 10:5-11). For some details as to why he is European, here is a link to a video titled: Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?
In the past, Germany has stated that it wants a military that is independent of the USA (see my posts Germany military looking to be ‘Independent of the USA’ and Germans wants an independent European arms industry). It is taking steps for this.
Germany still wants to lead all of Europe–and the Bible supports that this will happen. The fact religion is being brought into this is consistent with various prophecies.
