ISIS claims responsibility for Texas attack and makes additional threats to the USA
Islamic State supporters are sending a message of destruction.
The essentially Iraqi-based group called the Islamic State (also known as ISIL or ISIS) claimed responsibility today for Sunday’s attack in Texas and has issued more threats:

The Islamic State militant group is claiming responsibility for Sunday’s attack on a convention center outside Dallas, Texas, where a contest for cartoons depicting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad was taking place.
There was no immediate comment from U.S. officials on the Islamic State claim.
The extremist group made the announcement Tuesday on its radio station, saying “two of the soldiers of the caliphate” carried out Sunday’s attack on a free speech event in the town of Garland.
“We tell America that what is coming will be even bigger and more bitter,” the Islamic State group said in its statement, the first time it had claimed responsibility for an attack on U.S. soil.

It was unclear whether the group had an actual hand in planning the operation, or whether the two suspects had pledged allegiance to the group and carried out the attack on their own.
Police have identified the assailants in the attack as Elton Simpson, 31, and Nadir Soofi, 34, who shared an apartment in Phoenix, Arizona. The pair opened fire on the conference center, wounding a security guard, before they were shot and killed by a Garland police officer.
Court documents show that Simpson had been under surveillance since 2006 and convicted in 2010 of lying to FBI agents over his desire to join violent jihad in Somalia. …
Joe Harn, a spokesman for the Garland, Texas, police department said that while the motivation for the attack remains unknown, “obviously they were there to shoot people.” Police found ammunition and luggage in the attackers’ car, but no bombs despite initial suspicions. …
‘Freedom of speech’
AFDI executive director Pamela Geller told CNN the event was “about freedom of speech.” The group’s website said more than 350 cartoons were submitted to “show that Americans will not be cowed by violent Islamist intimidation.”
A bomb squad, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a SWAT team and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives had been involved in preparations for security around the event for months, Garland police said. The group reportedly paid $10,000 for the extra protection. …
Dutch politician Geert Wilders, a critic of Islam who said last week the United States should ban Muslim immigrants, was the keynote speaker at Sunday’s event. He mentioned on Twitter the shots being fired and said he left the building after his address.
Many Muslims find depictions of the Prophet Muhammad to be insulting to Islam. The issue has sparked tensions with those who see the drawings as a free speech issue.
In January, two gunmen attacked the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which had featured multiple cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, killing 12 staff members.
Other Western attacks
There also have been numerous attack in other Western countries believed related in some way to the group, which holds roughly a third of Iraq and Syria.
- In October, Canada was hit by two terror attacks by so-called “lone wolves” believed to have been inspired by the Islamic State group.
- In Ottawa, a gunman shot and killed a soldier at Canada’s National War Memorial and then stormed Parliament before being gunned down.
- Two days earlier, a man ran over two soldiers in a parking lot in Quebec, killing one and injuring the other before being shot to death by police.

America can expect more terror attacks on U.S. soil, because radical Islamists “want to kill or subjugate us all,” warned the Dutch lawmaker who served as the keynote speaker at the Texas event that suspected terrorists tried to ambush Sunday as it showcased cartoons of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad.
In an interview with FoxNews.com, Geert Wilders, the firebrand leader of the Party for Freedom in the Netherlands said radical Islam – as an ideology – was relentless in its quest for domination, and so he was not surprised by Sunday’s attack at “Draw the Prophet Muhammad” contest in Garland, Texas.
“I always said that what has happened in Europe will also happen in America if you don’t stop Islam,” said Wilders, who had delivered his address and left the building before the attack took place.
“I fear you haven’t seen anything yet,” he told FoxNews.com…
“Islam [simply] wants to kill or subjugate us,” he said, brushing aside any notion that the move by Reps. Keith Ellison, of Minnesota, and Andre Carson, of Indiana, who are both Muslim, could in any way have spurred the terrorists.
Wilders said the attack will not stop him from speaking out against what he considers a grave threat to Western civilization.
“Never give in to terrorism,” he said. “I want to live, but would rather die than give in to totalitarianism.”
In the speech he delivered, Wilders praised Ronald Reagan as America’s “greatest-ever president,” but criticized President Obama, who he said, like Dutch, European and other U.S. leaders, is “weak” in the face of Islamic extremism.
“In his address to the United Nations in 2012, President Obama said, ‘The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam,’” Wilders told the audience. “But we say, ‘The future must not belong to Islam!’ Do you hear Mr. Obama? We said, ‘No to Islam!’”

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the shooting outside a venue hosting a controversial cartoon exhibit concerning Prophet Mohammed, saying such criminal acts have nothing to do with religion or belief.
In response to a question, Ban’s spokesperson said the Secretary-General condemned the attack in the Dallas suburb of Garland by two gunmen who opened fire and injured a security guard on Sunday.
The Secretary-General in his statement said that such criminal acts have nothing to do with religion or belief.
“Ideas must only be defended through democratic debate and dialogue. There is no justification for violence,” he said.

Geert Wilder and some others see the threat. Europe will eventually take strong actions against Islam (cf. Revelation 13; Daniel 11:40-43).
While I believe that hosting a drawing of Muhammad contest reflects bad taste and was an unnecessary provocation to a religion (I believe that providing facts about religions as opposed to cartooning them is a better way to deal with issues of disagreement), I also believe that Pamela Geller’s group had the right to hold the contest, had the right to believe it should have been able to do so without violence, and I applaud the Secretary of the United Nations for coming out against the terrorism and for upholding freedom of speech.
The Bible, of course, tells of a time of terror. Notice the following prophecies, several of which will involve the USA:

Despite international efforts against terrorists, a confederation against the USA, its Anglo-Saxon allies, and Israel involving Arab and European forces is coming per Psalm 83. And I have long believed that terrorism will have to be part of this based not only upon the “terror” prophecies, but those that discuss an arrangement between what is now mainly Islamic dominated lands and Europe in Psalm 83. While the current Islamic State will not lead as it wishes, it very well may be involved in more terrorist actions around the world.
Because of actions by groups such as the Islamic State, many in the West as well as in many of the Islam-dominated countries will decide that a coalition of nations in North Africa and the Middle East is what is needed for ‘peace.’
Yet this, according to the Bible, will not truly bring peace (Daniel 11:40-43), though it may well lead to a temporary peace (Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27). It may be a prelude to the time of coming destruction (cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:3).
