Israel intends to continue its military incursion, but accepts another ‘cease-fire’
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says Israel will keeping fighting until it feels it has Gaza under sufficient control, but has again accepted a cease-fire:

Israel will not stop its military campaign in Gaza until long-term calm is restored, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday, at the end of a seven-hour humanitarian lull in fighting.
“The campaign in Gaza is continuing. This operation will only end when quiet and security is established for the citizens of Israel for a prolonged period,” he said on a visit to the army’s southern command.
Also Monday, in what appeared to be backlash against Israel’s offensive against Gaza, a Palestinian man killed an Israeli and overturned a bus with a construction vehicle and a gunman wounded a soldier. Both attacks occurred in Jerusalem.
The Israeli operation in Gaza began on July 8 with an air campaign and expanded into a ground operation on July 17 with the aim of destroying a network of tunnels used for cross-border attacks.
By the weekend, Netanyahu said troops would finish with the tunnels before moving into a new phase, although officials have not said what that would involve…
Israeli officials say the army is close to completing the main objective of the ground assault on Gaza – destruction of cross-border infiltration tunnels from the Palestinian territory – but remains prepared to respond to Palestinian attacks.
In Tel Aviv, a target of rocket attack launched by militants out of Gaza, residents had differing views of the conflict.
“This operation is really taxing my soul. It’s making me lose my humanity,” said Michelle Cosanza-Weiss. “I consider myself a liberal, but it’s hard to stay very liberal when people are raining rockets on you every day, when you try to organize or have a cease-fire with them and we stop, but they keep going, it’s really hard to have sympathy and empathy towards this terrorist group.
“But, on the other side, I know that people are suffering, and I feel that Hamas is the one who is occupying Gaza. Hamas is the one who has taken these people under control, and I feel really bad that these people are born into such a society,” Cosanza-Weiss said.
Rotem Kuza sounded resigned to violence in the future.
“To my opinion, this situation will remain as it is now. I mean, it will pass a year or two and we will see another round of violence with our neighbors. And we just need to take it as it is. I mean, to take it as a fact where we live, and it will be like this forever,” Kuza said. http://www.voanews.com/content/palestinians-accuse-israel-of-breaking-truce/1970936.html

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli government has accepted an Egyptian cease-fire proposal meant to halt a monthlong war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, a senior Israeli official said, signaling an end to the bloodiest round of fighting between the bitter enemies is finally approaching.
The official said a preliminary 72-hour truce was to begin at 8 a.m. (0500 GMT) Tuesday. He said an Israeli delegation would head to Egypt to work out a long-term truce over the next three days. http://www.aol.com/article/2014/08/04/israel-accepts-egyptian-cease-fire-plan/20941708/?icid=maing-grid7%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D510842
Although Israel wants long-term calm, this region will not be calm for too long.
The Bible tells of what appears to be a temporary peace deal for the region in Daniel 9:27 which it also shows will be broken (see The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).
Beyond that, the Bible has prophesies against those in lands of Gaza, Ashkelon, and Asdod:
The entire 47th chapter of Jeremiah is a prophecy against the Philistines, including Gaza:
1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.
2 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, waters rise out of the north, And shall be an overflowing flood; They shall overflow the land and all that is in it, The city and those who dwell within; Then the men shall cry, And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail. 3 At the noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses, At the rushing of his chariots, At the rumbling of his wheels, The fathers will not look back for their children, Lacking courage, 4 Because of the day that comes to plunder all the Philistines,To cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains; For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines, The remnant of the country of Caphtor. 5 Baldness has come upon Gaza, Ashkelon is cut off With the remnant of their valley. How long will you cut yourself? 6 “O you sword of the Lord, How long until you are quiet? Put yourself up into your scabbard, Rest and be still! 7 How can it be quiet, Seeing the Lord has given it a charge Against Ashkelon and against the seashore? There He has appointed it.” (Jeremiah 47:2-7)
Problems were thus prophesied for Gaza–since there is a duality to some prophecies (e.g. Malachi 4:5 & Matthew 17:10-13), this may have future application. It should be noted that Ashkelon is currently part of Israel, and possibly the Palestinians will either control it again or be so numerous in it that they are affected.
Amos specifically recorded a prophecy against Gaza:
6 Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they took captive the whole captivity
To deliver them up to Edom.
7 But I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza,
Which shall devour its palaces.
8 I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,
And the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn My hand against Ekron,
And the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”
Says the Lord God. (Amos 1:6-8)
Ashdod and Ekron are also currently controlled by the nation of Israel, and thus they may leave Israel’s sphere of influence.
Change is coming to the lands of the Palestinians and Israelis. And not all of that change will be good.
