MOSCOW: The Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, has embraced the fiery rhetoric of the Cold War as he threatened to target and if necessary destroy America’s European missile defence shield once it is built.In what may be the most serious blow to US-Russia relations since President Barack Obama came to power, Mr Medvedev raised the prospect of Russia launching missile attacks on European Union member states such as Poland, Romania and Spain as well as Turkey, a NATO member.
”I have given the armed forces the task of drawing up plans to destroy the information and command and control systems of the [US/Nato] anti-missile shield,” Mr Medvedev said.
This has been in the news for the past day or so. It is consistent with the fact that Russia has been repeatedly trying to become stronger and gain more influence and military cooperation throughout Asia (see also Russia Strengthening Ties to China and India, Russia Strengthening Ties to Pakistan, Russia Strenthening Military Ties with North Korea, and Russia’s Putin Still Working for Eurasian Union)–but also has interests in Europe. This may spur the Europeans to look more into their own military defenses and rely less on those of the USA. The final time of the Gentiles is rapidly approaching (Luke 21:24).
Interestingly, the Bible shows that Europe will for a while, be perceived as the strongest warring power:
3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:3-4)
Since this is not yet the case, something will change in Europe. I have speculated that items such as its Galileo system, as well as technology from its Large Hadron Collider, might be part of how Europe will be able to fulfill its prophesied military destiny.
Yet, this power of the final European Beast power will not last.
The Bible indicates that in the end Russia (Jeremiah 50:41-42) apparently will help lead the Kings of the East (Revelation 16:12) against the end-time European Babylonian empire (Daniel 11:44; Jeremiah 50:9). These eastern kings also include China and many other oriental nations and probably will also include India. Many Asians will be part of the two hundred million man army against the European power that the Bible says will rise up (Revelation 9:13-20)–only Asia has enough the people to be able to put together such an army in modern times. Perhaps, I should mention for biblical skeptics that when John was inspired to write the Book of Revelation, there were not even 200,000,000 men on the earth at that time, hence the fact that such an army could be produced and supported in these end-times should show all that will consider the facts that Bible prophecy can be trusted.
