Syrian Armored Troops Move Closer to Israel, Iranian Says Israel Needs to be Attacked by 2014

Syria, Israel, and Iran keep making the news.  Let’s begin by looking at some of what is happening in Syria:

CNN – ‎10 February 2012
By the CNN Wire Staff (CNN) — Twin blasts tore through government buildings in the Syrian city of Aleppo on Friday…
.

BEIRUT – Two explosions struck security compounds in the Syrian city of Aleppo on Friday, killing 25 people and wounding 175, state media reported, in a major city that has largely stood by President Bashar Assad in the nearly 11-month-old uprising against his rule.

The blasts come as escalating violence between regime forces and an increasingly militarized opposition has raised fears the conflict is spiraling toward civil war.

Israel National News – Feb 9, 2012

According to reports from the Free Syria Army, the Syrian military has moved forces stationed in the southern part of the Syrian Golan Heights closer to Israel.  The Syrian military did not come close to the border with Israel. However, armored forces that were stationed along the Syria-Jordan border, which were recently reinforced, were moved closer to Israel, according to the report

I put those two stories together, because as I have been speculating for some time, it seems that Syria may decide that the best way to deal with the internal problems and protests within its borders is to support Iran further and invade Israel.  The fact that Iran recently put 15,000 of its own troops in Syria (see Syria, Turkey, Russia, and Iran) also suggests that I may be correct.

Speaking of Iran, an Iranian is calling for an attack on Israel by 2014:

Reuters – Feb 9, 2012

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s strategist provided the legal and religious justification for the annihilation of Israel and the Jewish people, in a document published on conservative Farsi website Alef. Reports of the document began to circulate the internet this week.

The document, written by strategy specialist Alireza Forghani, outlined the reasons why, “In the name of Allah, Iran must attack Israel by 2014.”

Claiming to only represent the personal opinion of its author, and not the Iranian government, the doctrine was published on a website believed to have close ties with the Ayatollah.

So, Iran is trying to more and more prepare its people for the idea of a war with Israel.  Such a regional war may happen and may result in a dramatic reduction to Iran’s power–as well as severe damage to the tiny nation of Israel.

Notice something from an article I was sent yesterday:

By Patrick J. Buchanan…

Why have the Iranians not followed through on their threat to close the Strait of Hormuz and begun to dial it back?

War with the United States would be a disaster. Though the Tehran regime might survive — as Saddam Hussein’s survived Desert Storm — Iran’s navy, most of its armor, anti-aircraft and anti-ship defenses, and its strategic missile force would be destroyed, as would much of the country’s infrastructure. Iran would be set back years.

Who, then, wants war with Iran?…

Yet if the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence community are correct — Iran does not have a bomb and has not decided to build a bomb — why should we go to war with Iran?

Answer: Iran represents “an existential threat” to Israel.

But Israel has 200 atomic bombs and three ways to deliver them, while Iran has never built, tested or weaponized a nuclear device. Who is the existential threat to whom here?

And though a U.S. war on Iran would be calamitous for Iran, it would be no cakewalk for Americans, who could become terrorist targets for years in the Gulf, Afghanistan, Baghdad’s Green Zone, Lebanon and even here in the USA.  http://buchanan.org/blog/who-wants-war-with-iran-2-4998

As the above article indicates, Iran may not fair too well in a war with Israel (or the USA).  And since Iran is one of the major military powers in the Middle East and because it will not be the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:40), I have long felt that its military might may be dramatically reduced.  Such a reduction could happen in a war against Israel.

If there is a regional war and Syria is highly involved, then there is a chance its capital will be destroyed as ultimately Damascus will be (Isaiah 17:1)–and that is one reason that I believe supports the idea that Israel may hit Iran hard.  And Israel may suffer enough damage (physically as well as diplomatically) as to make the likely peace deal of Daniel 9:27 a reality.

Events are heating up in the Middle East. “And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:37).
