WND promoting Jonathan Cahn ‘as one of the most gifted Bible teachers in the world’

No, I was not “one of the millions of people blown away by messianic rabbi Jonathan Cahn.” I am one who has been disappointed by his false predictions, as well as one who has pointed several of them out. I do not consider him “one of the most gifted Bible teachers in the world.”
It remains disturbing to me that WND continues to promote him.
Jonathan Cahn is a Messianic Jew who is perhaps best known for his book The Harbinger.
Jonathan Cahn is also the author of the book The Mystery of the Shemitah:
‘Strange signs’ on Shemitah’s final days
One occurred at Ground Zero, another in Mecca …
Among those who have been studying and teaching on the seven-year Shemitah cycle, the expectations have varied wildly. The Hebrew word “Shemitah” can be interpreted as “release” or “collapse,” which has led to predictions of stock market collapses and economic doom, wars, natural disasters and the period of time Jesus referred to as the “beginning of sorrows.”
Jonathan Cahn, who lifted the Shemitah out of Old Testament obscurity (it is found in Leviticus 25:1-7 and Deuteronomy 15:1-3) with his New York Times-bestseller “The Mystery of the Shemitah,” said judgment, in the form of a “great shaking” is coming to America and the world. The last two Shemitah years, 2000-01 and 2007-08, brought record stock market collapses, similar to the collapses in the Shemitah years of 1973, 1980 and 1987.
He told WND that he noticed two signs in the final days of the current Shemitah – one involving the collapse of a structure in Saudi Arabia on Sept. 11 and the other a rainbow in New York City.
“Very strange. In the last days of the Shemitah, two striking signs. A storm causes destruction on Islam’s central mosque in Mecca (on Sept. 11). At the same time a rainbow appears (Sept. 10) over the tower at Ground Zero,” he said. “Many immediately took this as a good sign. Yet, it was not long ago that America desecrated the sign of the rainbow by using a vessel of God to celebrate the Supreme Court’s striking down the biblical definition of marriage.” …
“We are now witnessing what appears to be a perfect prophetic storm,” Cahn told Charisma magazine for its September issue. “The harbingers have all manifested, the national departure from God is accelerating almost exponentially, America’s relationship with Israel is at an all-time low, and now the striking down of the biblical definition of marriage, the very order of God, we have crossed a fateful line. “I believe a great shaking is coming to America and the world but America. I believe a shaking is coming that strikes the financial realm, economic realm and even be a shaking that’s greater than that,” Cahn said on The 700 Club this week.
He and others believe there’s a correlation between financial downturns in the United States and the end of the shemitah year.
“[In] 1980 you have recession and then the stock market collapses; you have ’87 stock market collapses and the shemitah of that, and you have ‘Black Monday’ the worst point percentage crash in history,” Cahn explained. “Shemitah of 1994, the bond market collapses, called the bond market massacre—greatest in history; 2001 you have the stock market collapsing, recession. You have the greatest point crash in world history and you have 9/11, which is the shaking. While much is ‘converging’ as far as prophecy is concerned, the ‘Shemitah’ claims made by Jonathan Cahn over the years have proven to be false and hollow.
Jesus said nothing about the ‘Shemitah’ being an important factor, when He laid out a variety of signs for the end (cf. Matthew 24:9-20). Furthermore, as regular readers of this page are aware, I was never convinced that this was that actual year based on earlier research I did (my conclusion was that the most recent Shemitah year ended September 24, 2014). Jonathan Cahn made a pseudo-prediction related to something he thought might happen back in 2015:

That was not the case. There was nothing resembling the financial collapse of the USA then. While the USA will have a total collapse some day, and continues to take steps that will lead to that, Jonathan Cahn’s attempts to tie that in with his claimed Shemitah year have proven hollow.
As far as possible financial destruction to the USA stock market in the claimed Shemitah year, let me again state that the DOW Jones Industrial Average opening at the start of that claimed Shemitah year was 17,033.93 and the DOW Jones Industrial Average close at the end was 16,370.96. This was a reduction of around 4%. That is not devastation from the claimed Shemitah cycle.
Years ago, I saw an interview on CBN by Pat Robertson of Jonathan Cahn that was first broadcast 02/05/2013. The interview screen at one point showed something that resembled two Power Point slides, apparently from Jonathan Cahn or one of his books. The first slide had the following information:

So, the above was a prediction of a possible global collapse at the end of a year that I claim was NOT the Shemitah year. A global collapse did not happen yesterday.
The second slide with the Jonathan Cahn interview had the following information:

Now if by tribulation, Jonathan Cahn meant the Great Tribulation, then it is not at all possible to begin that month (the last of the four ‘blood moons’ of his tetrad was September 28, 2015) as I have gone over this before in various articles and videos, and I have directly debunked the ‘Blood Moon’ hypotheses of the Great Tribulation beginning in 2014 or 2015 (see Blood Moons and Prophecy and/or watch Blood Moons, Prophecy, 2014, and 2015).
Near the end of the interview Pat Robertson said:
God…has ordained this young man as His prophet…Jonathan…
Is Jonathan Cahn God’s prophet as Pat Robertson stated?
No.
He does not meet the New Testament criteria, plus his misunderstanding of various matters disqualifies him (to learn more about prophets, please see the article How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God and/or watch the video also titled How to determine if someone is a true prophet of God).
Blood moons were never a sign that the Great Tribulation could begin in 2014 or 2015. There are simply too many additional biblically-required signs that Jesus listed in Matthew 24 that cannot occur between now and then. The ‘mystery of the Shemitah’ is that many were misled to believe it had importance that it did not have.
Also, in that interview with Pat Robertson, Jonathan Cahn took Isaiah 9:10 in a step or two in the wrong direction. He said that since the ancient Septuagint (a sometimes corrupted translation of the Hebrew scriptures into the Greek language) specifically suggests that a ‘tower’ would be rebuilt and that something related to Babel was found at the 9/11 site, that this suggests the new tower built at ‘ground zero’ had connections to the Tower of Babel of Genesis 11:4. If he was hinting that the USA is the representative of the end time Mystery Babylon the Great of Revelation 17 (which he seemed to possibly hint at), he is in error on this as well. The Bible shows that Revelation 17 has to do with a seven-hilled city in Europe and its relationship with a Roman/European power there–not the USA and certainly not a building in New York City.
Pat Robertson, however, is not the only one to put Jonathan Cahn in a prophetic role. WND’s Joseph Farah called Jonathan Cahn a watchman:

Up until 2012, when Jonathan Cahn’s New York Times best-selling book “The Harbinger” came out, most people thought of me as a political guy. That’s what I wrote about in what may be the world’s only column written six days a week. Politics dominated my commentary.

But as a ‘watchman,’ Jonathan Cahn has failed as his prophetic warnings are seriously flawed (information on a watchman can be found in the short video Go, Set a Watchman).

Jonathan Cahn, author of “The Harbinger” and “The Mystery of the Shemitah” also sees the announcement as significant.

Jonathan Cahn is in error. His contentions that a temple must be rebuilt in this age are also biblically wrong (see Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).
Religious leaders like Jonathan Cahn who pushed non-biblical blood moons and a claimed Shemitah ending disaster some time ago have been misleading people. I first warned about some of Jonathan Cahn’s wrong prophetic beliefs in 2013 (see Billy Graham (and others) suggesting Jesus about to return, but what does the Bible say?).
That being said, Bible prophecy is true and those who will truly believe what the BIBLE teaches can be assured.
It is from the Bible that we in the Continuing Church of God can “have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed” (2 Peter 1:19, KJV).
Unless he repents sufficiently, be very cautious about heeding what Jonathan Cahn promotes.
