July 3rd is held to be the ‘day’ for Thomas the apostle.  He is believed to have been stabbed with a spear c.72 in while in prayer on a hill in Mylapur, India.

Thomas is mentioned various times in the Bible.  In Matthew 10:3, Mark 3:18, and Luke 6:15 his name is listed next to the Apostle Matthew.

He seemed to have a certain bravery, was willing to ask questions, and apparently was a twin or perhaps resembled someone else well:

12 Then His disciples said, “Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.” 13 However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.

14 Then Jesus said to them plainly, “Lazarus is dead.  15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe. Nevertheless let us go to him.”

16 Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.”  (John 11:12-16)

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.  2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.  4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”  (John 14:1-5)

1 After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself:  2 Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”

They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.  (John 21:1-4)

12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. 13 And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.  (Acts 1:12-14)

He is probably best known for the following:

24 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.”

So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!”  27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”

28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Jesus said to him,  “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”  (John 20:24-29)

Yet, if the legends about him later are true, he traveled farther than any other apostle.  Some believe that he reached Malaysia and perhaps even the edges of China itself.  But he seems best known for apparently reaching India.

In the early third century, Hippolytus wrote about Bartholomew and Thomas:

Bartholomew, again, preached to the Indians, to whom he also gave the Gospel according to Matthew, and was crucified with his head downward, and was buried in Allanum, a town of the great Armenia…

And Thomas preached to the Parthians, Medes, Persians, Hyrcanians, Bactrians, and Margians, and was thrust through in the four members of his body with a pine spears at Calamene, the city of India, and was buried there (Hippolytus. On The Twelve Apostles).

This may be the earliest reference to any form of Christianity coming to India.

One legend, that was written down in the late 1800s, but has been questioned, concerns Thomas:

The Rabban Song, which has been passed down orally by generations of Indian Christians, recounts Thomas’ career in India in some detail. It states that the apostle arrived in India in late A.D. 49, stayed briefly then went to China. This generally agrees with Indian traditions. Such a trip would have occurred shortly after Thomas’s arrival in South India. Farquhar and Garitte believe that it is unlikely that Thomas actually went to China proper–certainly not Peking–within the short space of perhaps a year alotted by the Indian narratives. They believe that he did evangelize in what are now Burma and Malaysia for a short time before returning to South India. According to the Rabban Song, between A.D. 52 and 59 Thomas founded seven churches and baptized one king…In A.D. 69, Thomas settled permanently in Mylapore…According to most Indian traditions, Thomas died of stab wounds on July 3, A.D. 72. The Braham priests of Mylapore feared that Christianity would eclipse Hinduism (Ruffin C.B. The Twelve: The Lives of the Apostles After Calvary. Our Sunday Visitor, Huntington (IN), 1997, pp. 132-134).

“St. Thomas Christians” are claimed to be an ancient body of professing Christians on the east and west coasts of India. They claim spiritual descent from the Apostle Thomas and also claim various versions of the Ramban Pattu (Rabban Song). While none that I am aware of still keep the same faith that the Apostle Thomas kept, as they eventually accepted Roman dominance, it is probable that the Apostle Thomas was there and that there have been Christians in India since the times of the apostles (it should also be noted that there is, however, a congregation in the South-east coastal region of India in the area of Bhimavaram that does practice true Christianity–it is just that they do not refer to themselves as “St. Thomas Christians”.

The Catholic Encyclopedia mentions this about the “St. Thomas Christians”:

St. Thomas Christians An ancient body of Christians on the east and west coasts of India, claiming spiritual descent from the Apostle St. Thomas…

Theophilus (surnamed the Indian) — an Arian, sent by Emperor Constantius (about 354) on a mission to Arabia Felix and Abyssinia — is one of the earliest, if not the first, who draws our attention to them…The people referred to were the Christians known as a body who had their liturgy in the Syriac language and inhabited the west coast of India, i.e. Malabar…

Gregory of Tours (Glor. Mart.), before 590, reports that Theodore, a pilgrim who had gone to Gaul, told him that in that part of India where the corpus (bones) of Thomas the Apostle had first rested (Mylapur on the east or the Coromandel Coast of India) there stood a monastery and a church of striking dimensions and elaboratedly adorned, adding: “After a long interval of time these remains had been removed thence to the city of Edessa.” The location of the first tomb of the Apostle in India is proof both of his martyrdom and of its Apostolate in India. The evidence of Theodore is that of an eyewitness who had visited both tombs — the first in India, while the second was at Edessa. The primitive Christians, therefore, found on both coasts, east and west, witness to and locate the tomb at Mylapur, “St. Thomas”, a little to the south of Madras; no other place in India lays any claim to possess the tomb, nor does any other country. On these facts is based their claim to be known as St. Thomas Christians…

There is one incident of the long period of isolation of the St. Thomas Christians from the rest of the Christian world which they are never tired of relating, and it is one of considerable importance to them for the civil status it conferred and secured to them in the country. This is the narrative of the arrival of a Syrian merchant on their shores, a certain Mar Thoma Cana — the Portuguese have named him Cananeo and styled him an Armenian, which he was not. He arrived by ship on the coast and entered the port of Cranganore. The King of Malabar, Cheruman Perumal, was in the vicinity, and receiving information of his arrival sent for him and admitted him to his presence…

It was only after the conversion of Sulaka in 1552 that the Chaldeans in part returned to the unity of faith. The truth is that the Malabar Church remained from A.D. 496 up till then in heresy….

During the centuries that these Christians were isolated from the rest of Christendom, their sole intercourse was limited to Mesopotamia…But from the close of the thirteenth century Western travellers, chiefly missionaries sent out by the popes, sent to the West occasional news of their existence (Medlycott, A.E. Whether or not Thomas Cana was completely Syrian or part Armenian, the religion that his followers embraced was not one that allowed them to accept the authority of the Roman Church. Thomas Cana is believed to have died around 346 A.D. But eventually (after 1552) the bulk of the “St. Thomas Christians” accepted Roman authority–hence would no longer have some of the characteristics of the early Christian church.

The reality, as real scholars will admit, the professing Christian world was NOT dominated by nor led by the Church of Rome in the first couple of centuries after Jesus’ resurrection.  Church of God doctrines were found in many places including India, Asia Minor, various parts of Europe, and the British Isles.

Two who apparently intended to cause terror in Canada were arrested today:

(SURREY, British Columbia) — Police in Canada have arrested and charged a man and woman with terrorism for attempting to leave pressure cooker bombs at British Columbia’s provincial legislature on Canada Day, when thousands of people were expected to be there.

John Stewart Nuttall and Amanda Marie Korody were inspired by al-Qaida ideology but were self-radicalized, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner James Malizia said Tuesday. He called it a domestic threat without international connections.

Jesus foretold troubles as part of the beginning of sorrows:

8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. Terrorism and attempts at it certainly qualify as troubles.  Terrorism is not over.

But it is good that some potential terrorists were apparently stopped.

Yet, like the USA, without national repentance, Canada itself doomed. Since Canada seems to be going more into sin nationally, that type of national repentance seems unlikely. Yet, personal repentance is still possible. Do you see the winds of change in the Canada and elsewhere?

The controversy over alleged United States surveillance of European Union institutions escalated yesterday, with French president François Hollande leading recriminations against the US, describing the alleged behaviour as unacceptable.

Mr Hollande hinted the negotiations could be under threat. “We can only have negotiations, transactions, in all areas, once we have obtained these guarantees for France, but that goes for the whole European Union and I would say for all partners of the United States,” he said, calling on the US to explain its practices and cease surveillance immediately.

“We cannot accept this kind of behaviour from partners and allies,” he added.

‘Mutual trust’

Merkel delivered her severest warning yet on the NSA debacle. “We are no longer in the cold war,” her spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said. “If it is confirmed that diplomatic representations of the European Union and individual European countries have been spied upon, we will clearly say that bugging friends is unacceptable.”

Seibert said Berlin was keen on the trade talks with Washington, but qualified that support: “Mutual trust is necessary in order to come to an agreement.”…

Kerry, the US secretary of state, delivered a low-key response to the growing European clamour for answers, saying the NSA activities were not unusual. “Every country in the world that is engaged in international affairs of national security undertakes lots of activities to protect its national security and all kinds of information contributes to that,” he said. “All I know is that is not unusual for lots of nations.”

A sense of outrage gathered momentum across Europe…

“Washington is shooting itself in the foot,” said Germany’s conservative Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper.

“Declaring the EU offices to be a legitimate attack target is more than the unfriendly act of a machine that knows no bounds and may be out of the control of politics and the courts.”

A front-page editorial in Le Monde charged the Americans with very bad behaviour.

Martin Schulz, the president of the European parliament, likened the NSA to the Soviet-era KGB…Schulz said: “I feel treated as a European and a representative of a European institution like the representative of the enemy. Is this the basis for a constructive relationship on the basis of mutual trust? I think no.”

“It is shocking that the United States take measures against their most important and nearest allies, comparable to measures taken in the past by the KGB, by the secret service of the Soviet Union.”

While the anger is broad and growing across Europe, it is particularly intense in Germany which, according to Snowden’s revelations, is by far the main target within the EU of the NSA’s Prism programme sweeping up metadata en masse, capturing and storing it.

Given the high sensitivity of data-privacy issues in Germany, the scandal could test Merkel and force her on to the offensive against the Americans as she seeks to win a third term in general elections 11 weeks away.

The opposition Social Democrats in Berlin demanded action from Merkel, but left her scope to cut a deal that would allow some snooping and data exchanges. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Social Democrats leader in the German parliament, said the chancellor had to insist “the mania for data collection be palpably limited”.

The Germans are also incensed at the British over GCHQ’s Tempora programme which is gathering electronic information from across Europe…

Notice that some in Germany believe that the EU has been stupid in overly trusting the USA.  Notice that the Germans are incensed with both the USA and the UK.  Many Germans will long remember this and decide that they will always have to mistrust the USA, despite future assurances by the USA.

The ramifications of this are staggering.

If the USA provides the Europeans with all the information that apparently it has agreed to and if the USA ceases (or dramatically reduces) the amount of surveillance against the Europeans in general, and the Germans in particular, this will put the Europeans in a position where they clearly can take steps to takeover the USA and not be found out until it is too late.

This matter is that serious.

Yet, because the media in general does not understand biblical prophecy, it mainly seems to think that only a trade agreement could be affected by all this.  This is much more serious than that.

Two days ago, Germany demanded details on the USA’s spying (Germany: USA is engaged in ‘cold war’ against us, Europe furious). And that is not all the Germans and the rest of Europe want.

I have long warned that I believed that the USA would share too much of its military information with the Europeans and now it appears that it will increase doing that.  If this scandal also results in the USA truly diminishing its espionage against Germany and the Europeans, this too will greatly impact the security of the USA.  Yet few Americans consider that any real threat will come from Germany and Europe. But according to biblical prophecy the final Beast power (Revelation 13; Daniel 11) will arise in Europe who will know “hidden things” (Daniel 8:23, YLT), and this will result in the takeover of the USA and its Anglo-descended allies (cf. Daniel 11:39).  The Germans are upset and will use this crisis as part of their basis for taking steps that the USA will regret.

There are a variety of additional disturbing reports from the improperly named Philadelphia Church of God (PCG).

The reports are a bit difficult to confirm the way I prefer.  And the last time I asked a representative from PCG about something, he did not respond.  Furthermore, PCG has certain policies that make the type of verifications that I normally prefer difficult.

The following are excerpts from emails I received from a former PCG member who still has at least one friend in PCG:

Did you know that Flurry made a announcement in The Church that no one could have  any children any more .As He said it’s time to go, any moment, and He wants all the people to tell  all of their familys… that are in some of what He calls “Off Shoots” He wants them all back..?

…a  CD  just was distributed in all Churches, of the [PCG] “of course.”.. They are to tell ALL , The family members and “all others” that left and in “THE OFF SHOOTS”.   “That it is time” for all to return to “The True Church”, as it’s time to go very soon now.. They are not allowed to have anymore children, if they do it’s possible they might be put out and unable to go to the Place of Saftey… This is what I heard,  one could never have the proof as He has all the CD’s  destroyed after hearing them..  [ Look on Exit and Support ].. for more details.. Flurry, forbids any “CD”S going out”.. If he finds some one tell anyone anything “There marked”…

I also hear that He told His congregation that they are expected to have “offerings” “every day” at The Feast.. INSTEAD OF THE FIRST AND LAST DAY.. Can’t you just imagine what a hard ship it would be, for people that have big familys, that can barely afford to go in the first place..  He has told every one on the out side.. That THE TEMPLE is mostly payed for and they are doing very well.. But in secret He is begging the members for more money saying the work is really down..  There are also mention of more building being built.. For what I wonder…?… He has only a few students there..  also TURGEN , is talking about buying Him a jet.. [no anouncement was made ] There just throwing around the idea just now..  If the end is near, why is He still building..?.. I thought MR. Armstrong said get the people ready., not get rid of them ..as He is doing. He will put you out for the slightest thing… …..He is putting no money into getting any work out..  He is only building on at His compound.. and putting it on the backs of those poor people that can barely make it now….With all Obama has done  no one can afford such luxury as Flurry expects…

While I have not listened to Gerald Flurry’s CD nor do I have additional information on whether or not he will ask for offerings on each of the Days of the Feast of Tabernacles, Gerald Flurry does have a history of wanting to build things for show and acquire artifacts to the point that sometimes seems to be idolatrous (e.g. PCG Added Another Relic).  The time to flee is not imminent and the Great Tribulation will not begin before 2017.

As far as this being the time for all to reunify and come with him and PCG now, this is similar to repeated rantings of RCG’s David Pack who expects this will happen on/by August 30, 2013 for his group (for details see  Why Not the Restored Church of God? and many items from the June 2013 posts in News of Those Once Affiliated with GCG).

What about this issue about becoming pregnant?

Jesus told of a time when being pregnant would be a problem:

¹⁵ “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), ¹⁶ then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. ¹⁷ Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. ¹⁸ And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. ¹⁹ But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! ²⁰ And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.

²¹ For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. ²²And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened (Matthew 24:15-22).

As far as when the time will come to not get pregnant, I actually wrote about this in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect as follows:

A year or two after this Daniel 9:27 deal is made, women may wish to be careful about becoming pregnant, as Jesus warned that the time right at the beginning of the Great Tribulation would be hard on those who are pregnant or nursing (Matthew 24:19).

Notice that Jesus said it would be a problem being pregnant when it is time to flee and that this fleeing happens after the time when the abomination of desolation is standing in the holy place (Matthew 24:15), which is also discussed in Daniel 11:31.  But Daniel 11:31 does not happen until three and one half years after the deal in Daniel 9:27 is made.  Here are fuller quotes from Daniel:

26b And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”   (Daniel 9:-26-27)

31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation. (Daniel 11:31)

The seven year (‘one week’) covenant has not been confirmed, hence the Great Tribulation cannot happen for at least 3 1/2 years.  The ‘him’ in Daniel 11:31 is the final King of the North (Daniel 11:40) and was called a ‘prince’ when he first confirms the seven year deal–which simply has not yet happened.

Presuming that the reports are right that Gerald Flurry made the announcement in the past few weeks to stop having children, his timing, in my view at least, is premature.  Gerald Flurry claims to be a prophet, but he is not a true prophet of God.  He needs to rely more on the Bible and less on his own imaginations.

Europe demands answers about U.S. bugging claims

(CNN) — The European Commission will sweep its offices for electronic listening devices and other security breaches following revelations of alleged U.S. surveillance programs targeting European leaders, a commission spokeswoman said Monday.

The allegations, reported Sunday by the German news magazine Der Spiegel, threaten to derail negotiations on a variety of issues with the United States, French President Francois Hollande said Monday. U.S. and EU officials are scheduled to begin talks on a proposed trans-Atlantic free trade agreement next month.

Hollande said any such surveillance must stop immediately before negotiations can go forward…

In Brussels, Der Spiegel says, the agency targeted the Justus Lipsius Building, which houses the European Council and the EU Council of Ministers, the union’s main decision-making and legislative body.

And in Washington, the magazine report claims, the NSA installed bugs in the European Union’s building and infiltrated its computer network…

European Parliament President Martin Schulz said he was “deeply worried and shocked” by the claims. “If the allegations prove to be true, it would be an extremely serious matter which will have a severe impact on EU-U.S. relations,” he said. “On behalf of the European Parliament, I demand full clarification and require further information speedily from the U.S. authorities with regard to these allegations.”  http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/01/world/europe/eu-nsa/

Germany said if allegations that the U.S. National Security Agency bugged European Union offices and gained access to its internal computer networks are true, then such spying on friends is “unacceptable.”…

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who has been involved in Middle East peace negotiations, said Monday he was not aware of the reports, but that it is “not unusual” for lots of nations to engage in efforts to protect their security.

“I will say that every country in the world that is engaged in international affairs of national security undertakes lots of activities to protect its national security and all kinds of information contributes to that,” Kerry said.

He discussed the issue with EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on the sidelines of a regional conference in Brunei, and promised to return to those talks after learning more about the situation.

The allegations have led some in Europe to call for a suspension of talks on a trans-Atlantic trade agreement…

Notice that apparently it is only the Anglo-descended nations that the USA has exempted from”spy attacks”–they are considered to be ‘close friends,’ but other nations, like the rest of the European Union apparently are not.

What is Europe up to that the USA thinks it needs this alleged level of espionage?  I suspect that there are two views in the USA government about Europe.  One that the Europeans are a major military threat and the other that it is that Europe really is a close ally.  While the former view will ultimately be proven right, the latter view will grow in the USA to the point that the European military plans will end up beating the USA (Daniel 11:39).

Yesterday, Germany demanded details on the USA’s spying (Germany: USA is engaged in ‘cold war’ against us, Europe furious).  And that is not all the Germans and the rest of Europe want.

I have long warned that I believed that the USA would share too much of its military information with the Europeans and that this would be a factor in the eventual European takeover of the USA. While the USA does have a tendency to excessively spy, it may very well be that it does believe that the Germans are working on projects that the USA considers to be militarily dangerous to the USA. Years ago, leaders in the USA and UK were worried that if Europe developed its then proposed Galileo ‘GPS’ system, that could pose a military threat against the USA–and not only is the Galileo project in process, the USA is going to allow itself to link to it and thus give the Europeans a unique way to help eliminate the USA.  Yet few Americans consider that any real threat will come from Germany and Europe. But according to biblical prophecy the final Beast power (Revelation 13; Daniel 11) will arise in Europe, and this will result in the takeover of the USA and its Anglo-descended allies (cf. Daniel 11:39).

At this point, I would like to comment about Justus Lipsius.  Notice what Wikipedia states about him:

Justus Lipsius (Joose Lips or Josse Lips) (18 October 1547 – 23 March 1606) was a Southern-Netherlandish (Belgian) philologist and humanist. Lipsius wrote a series of works designed to revive ancient Stoicism in a form that would be compatible with Christianity…

His ideas about the ideal citizen—a man that acts according to reason, is answerable to himself, is in control of his emotions, and is ready to fight—found wide acceptance in the turbulent times of the Reformation. This Lipsian view, translated to politics, entails rationalisation of the state and its apparatus of government, autocratic rule by the prince, discipline dispensed to subjects, and strong military defence. These principles lie at the foundation of the early modern state.

Notice that he wanted to combine ancient philosophy with the Greco-Roman “Christianity,’ wanted state involvement in many matters, believed in monarchy, wanted a strong military, and wanted citizens that would fight.  And this is the man that the EU named their building in Brussels after.

Does that not give some insights as to the goals of the European Union.

Now, the government of the USA does have reasons to be concerned about Europe.  Yet, the USA wants to have it both ways.  It claims that it is an close ally to the Europeans, but privately it does not trust them.  This is a sign of hypocrisy.  The Bible actually warns that God will send a European-based power against a hypocritical nation:

5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?

10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;

11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?  (Isaiah 10:5-11)

Notice that the above says that while the Assyrian (European) power does not think it wants to be warlike, that it really is internally, and will act that way.

Now that the USA has been somewhat caught for its cyber-espionage (even if the report on German spying is not confirmed, other USA espionage efforts have recently been publicly confirmed), it may decide that additional disclosure of its espionage is its best move to attempt to placate the wrath of the Germans and other Europeans. If so, this would also seem to pave the way for additional military disclosures to the Europeans.

And, presuming that this latest espionage disclosure is true, this will truly upset Europe’s relationship with the USA. No matter what the USA does it will not truly be able to erase what it allegedly did from the memories of the German/European leadership.  The USA seemingly has established its hypocrisy for Europe.  This will not bode well for the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39).

Millions protested in Egypt yesterday, but some violently attacked the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in Cairo today:

Egyptians have ransacked the Cairo headquarters of President Mohamed Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood after massive protests took a violent turn.

Protesters stormed the building early Monday, smashing windows and tossing firebombs even as guards inside the building fired back.  Some protesters were seen running off with furniture and files.

Activists say at least five people were killed in the incident, while Egyptian officials say the nationwide death toll since Sunday has risen to 16.

Opposition organizers have given President Morsi until 5 p.m. Cairo time (15 UTC) Tuesday to resign.

Sunday’s anti-government demonstrations in Egypt were the largest since the 2011 revolution that swept former president Hosni Mubarak from power.  Arabic-language media quoted the Interior Ministry saying the crowds in Cairo and other cities across Egypt totaled as many as 3 million people.  http://www.voanews.com/content/opponents-continue-protests-against-egypts-morsi/1692463.html

(Reuters) – The headquarters of Egypt’s ruling Muslim Brotherhood was overrun and looted on Monday as President Mohamed Mursi refused to heed millions who took to the streets demanding he resign.

The Islamist movement, which operated underground until the overthrow of autocratic President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, said it was looking at how to defend itself…

Four non-Brotherhood government ministers resigned from the cabinet, apparently in sympathy with the protesters, underlining a sense of isolation for the party that won a series of elections last year…

Eight people died in a night of fighting around the Brotherhood building, where guards fired on youths hurling rocks and fire bombs. A Brotherhood official said two of its members were injured.

The movement’s official spokesman told Reuters that the attack had crossed a red line of violence and among possible responses might be to revive “self-defence committees” former during the 2011 uprising. “The people will not sit silent,” Gehad El-Haddad said.  http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/07/01/us-egypt-protests-idUSBRE95Q0NO20130701

Violence does not bring peace (cf. Romans 3:17):

8 The way of peace they have not known,
And there is no justice in their ways;
They have made themselves crooked paths;
Whoever takes that way shall not know peace. (Isaiah 59:8)

The Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni Muslim group (countries such as Iran and Iraq are mainly Shi’ite Muslims). And while the majority in Egypt is mainly Sunni Muslim, its Sunni President Morsi has been the subject of a lot of criticism.  Muslim. A couple of weeks ago, Egypt’s President Morsi (who was a former leader in the Muslim Brotherhood) called for Egyptian fighters to begin a war against three Shi’ite ruled nations, including Syria (see Egypt’s Morsi taking ‘King of the South’ steps, but…).  But, if he had hoped that this would result in less criticism of his administration, he was wrong.

The Muslim Brotherhood wants as its top priority a pan-national Islamic caliphate ruled by an Imam/Caliph. And while it will not get all the territory it wants, it is likely to end up in some type of confederation with at least most of North Africa and the Middle East. This is consistent with the territory that the King of the South of Bible prophecy will lead, and notice that Egypt is involved:

40 At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. (Daniel 11:40-42).

1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, prophesy and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says:

“‘Wail and say, “Alas for that day!” 3 For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near- a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations. 4 A sword will come against Egypt, and anguish will come upon Cush. When the slain fall in Egypt, her wealth will be carried away and her foundations torn down.

5 Cush and Put, Lydia and all Arabia, Libya and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.

6 “‘This is what the LORD says:

“‘The allies of Egypt will fall and her proud strength will fail. From Migdol to Aswan they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Sovereign LORD. 7 “‘They will be desolate among desolate lands, and their cities will lie among ruined cities. 8 Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I set fire to Egypt and all her helpers are crushed.

9 “‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush out of her complacency. Anguish will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come (Ezekiel 30:1-9, NIV).

Notice that a time of doom is coming to Egypt.  But that particular doom that Ezekiel 30:9 is referring to will not happen until after the rise of the final King of the South.

So, despite protests that appear to be going against the rise of a pan-national Islamic movement (which is what the Muslim Brotherhood is), it will happen.

The situation in Egypt will change for this to come to pass.
