UK Prime Minister David Cameron is intending to take limited moves against online pornography:

Every household in Britain connected to the internet will be obliged to declare whether they want to maintain access to online pornography, David Cameron will announce on Monday.

In the most dramatic step by the government to crack down on the “corroding” influence of pornography on childhood, the prime minister will say that all internet users will be contacted by their service providers and given an “unavoidable choice” on whether to use filters…

The moves will be announced by the prime minister in a speech to the NSPCC in which he will unveil a series of measures to reduce access to pornography with a particular focus on images of child sexual abuse. He will say:

• The possession of “extreme pornography”, which includes scenes of simulated rape, is to be outlawed.

• The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) is to draw up a blacklist of “abhorrent” internet search terms to identify and prevent paedophiles searching for illegal material.

• All police forces will work with a single secure database of illegal images of children to help “close the net on paedophiles”.

Cameron warns Google must act over online child pornography

Google and other internet search engines are complicit in supplying illegal images of child abuse to “sick and malevolent” individuals, David Cameron has claimed.   http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/david-cameron/10195293/Cameron-warns-Google-must-act-over-online-child-pornography.html

Pornography is a growing problem and the internet has greatly increased its availability.  Pornography, kiddie porn or adult porn, should not be produced.  Despite what certain US judges have ruled, pornography is not an expression of free speech.  It exploits both women and men.

Does pornography contribute to sex crimes? Notice something that Gordon Muir wrote:

The whole principle of advertising is based on the notion that people are motivated to act on visual stimuli. Since the essence of pornography is visual stimuli, it may also cause people to act, and often in very antisocial ways. A normal person probably won’t commit some horrible sex crime if he looks at pornography. There are doubtless other individuals who will commit sex crimes regardless of whether they look at pornography or not. (This sort of person, however, is almost always an avid reader of pornography.) But there are others, “marginal individuals,” who will commit sex crimes if they are exposed to pornography, but who otherwise wouldn’t. There is consequently a strong correlation between sex offenses and pornography: those who commjt such crimes are practically always voracious consumers of the stuff…

Case after case can reveal the effect of today’s pornography on the minds of at least a segment of society. At a trial in Eng land of a young man who raped two fourteen-year-old girls, the defending Q.C. stressed that the accused had had ” his youthful sexuality turned into a very powerful driving force through the effect of pornography.” Evidence like this, however, is counted for nothing beside the test-tube theories of the avant-garde…

Well did one police official say – following a major rape conviction – to those who consider that censorship of pornography interferes with the liberty of the individual: “Let [them] reflect upon the victims of the sex crimes and ask themselves if they would express these views if the victims were their own relatives and friends.” (Muir G. A Case Against Pornography. Plain Truth, April-May 1976, pp. 15-18)

I would also add that one of the reasons that “kiddie porn” (pornography featuring children) is illegal in many places is to decrease pedophiles from committing their horrific crimes.

Pornography is bad for society.

As far as the proposed solution in the UK, I have various issues with that.  Short of the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God which will totally eliminate sinful practices such as internet pornography, it would seem to make sense that governments around the world should agree to shut the pornography sites down.  Period.  Also, financial companies should not allow pornography mongers to get paid via credit card, PayPal, etc.  These two steps would make a major dent in the availability and viewing of online pornography.  And of course, stores should not be able to sell it either.

Remaining Bricks of the Church of God on Jerusalem’s Western Hill

Various Jews in Israel are fervently working on trying to have another temple:

I went to visit the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem to see how the preparations for the establishment of the new temple were getting on. For hundreds of Israelis, the task of renewing the temple has become the job of their lives. What many do not realize is that a lot of the bricks from the last Jewish temple were used to build the Church of God on Jerusalem’s Western Hill , and that contrary to certain Protestant (and sadly some in the COG), Bible prophecy does not require a Jewish temple in Jerusalem before Jesus will return.  The Man of Sin of 2 Thessalonians 2 can sit elsewhere to fulfill 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4.

But let’s notice the view of some Jews about the ramifications of a new temple:

Schwartz, Cohen and Glick are all confident that once the Third Temple is erected, the world will become a fundamentally different place. The Lord would then bestow on Earth great abundance and there would no longer be anyone in need of charity.

“Those who do not feel what is going to happen are either blind or stupid, or ungrateful,” Glick noted, clearly annoyed with me, having noticed the skeptical expression on my face. “There has never been anything like that in the history of the human race; the return of an exiled people to its homeland is unique in human annals. It is all written in the Torah. The above position reminds me of what the Fatimists (people who believe that the messages from the ‘Lady of Fatima’ are divine and reveal God’s new plan to save humanity) say will happen if Russia is consecrated to “the immaculate heart of Mary.” Basically, the Fatimists believe that act would also bring about peace and great abundance.  But neither of those physical acts will save humanity–it will take the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God and not some human action to usher in the millennial peace.

As far as a physical temple in Jerusalem goes, here is what the late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote:

God made a prophecy in the third chapter of Malachy…Continuing, “…shall suddenly come to His temple…” What kind of temple is He coming to? Are the Jews going to tear down the Dome of the Rock and build a new temple? Oh, no!… A holy temple! Christ is coming to His church! Christ is coming to His temple! Do we see that? The church is the temple. “…in whom ye are also builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (Armstrong, Herbert W. Congress of Leading Ministers Hears Defined and Reemphasized Spiritual Organization of Church. Worldwide News, March 6, 1981, p. 10)

Some no longer agree with him about that, but I believe he was right and that can be shown from what the Bible also teaches (Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).

This does not mean that a Jewish temple cannot be built, only that it is not required to be built before Jesus returns.  The Bible (Ezra 3:6) and Jewish religious leaders agree that animal sacrifices (which the Bible says will resume as it teaches that they will later be stopped per Daniel 9:27;11:31) can occur without a Jewish temple.  Only an altar in the area is required (cf. Ezra 3:2-6) and the Jews already have one of those (for details, see Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).

A reader forwarded the following, which if true, will have ramifications on this matter between the Israelis and the USA:

The Obama administration has quietly presented a plan in which the Palestinian Authority and Jordan will receive sovereignty over the Temple Mount while Israel will retain the land below the Western Wall, according to a senior PA negotiator speaking to WND…

The proposed plan is part of the basis for U.S.-brokered talks that are set to resume in Washington next week after Secretary of State John Kerry announced that both Israel and PA President Mahmoud Abbas have agreed to open negotiations aimed at creating a Palestinian state.

Israel has not agreed to the U.S. plan over the Temple Mount, with details still open for discussion, stated the PA negotiator.

So, this is another potential stumbling block.  The Jews and the Muslims have differing plans for the area.

While the Jews push for another temple, and may possibly get one, they also tend to push for the ability to do animal sacrifices.  At some point in time, the sacrifices will begin, but will be stopped (Daniel 9:27,11:31).  And that will be not be a sign of peace and prosperity, but a sign that the Great Tribulation is about to begin (Matthew 24:15-23).

Belgium’s King Albert II has abdicated his throne after a 20-year reign, in favor of his son Philippe.

In a solemn ceremony at the royal palace on Sunday, the 79-year-old monarch signed the act of abdication in the presence of Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo, who holds the political power in the parliamentary democracy.

In Belgium, although the institution is largely ceremonial, laws need the king’s signature to come into force and, after an election, he appoints mediators to aid the formation of a  governing coalition – typically a protracted process…

Philippe drew criticism when he entered the political debate in 2004, accusing Vlaams Belang of trying to rip Belgium apart.

“I can assure you that such people will have me to deal with,” he told Story magazine in an interview at the time…

Flemish critics view the 53-year-old Philippe as a French-speaking outsider. He is far less comfortable speaking Dutch than French, although he went to a Dutch-language secondary school after primary education in French.

Winning hearts and minds of the people, as newly crowned Willem Alexander has done in the Netherlands, may also depend on whether Philippe can soften his reserved image.

Some in the past have been critical of Prince Philippe and questioned his ability to lead as his father’s replacement (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/belgian-crown-prince-at-heart-of-royal-scandal-8280136.html).  But he is now king.

Prince Philippe has met with Europe’s President Herman Von Rompuy in the past (http://tvnewsroom.consilium.europa.eu/video/shotlist/meeting-with-the-prince-philippe-of-belgium) and also has had a lot of involvement in economic matters.  I noticed that his father wants Belgium, and presumably Philippe himself, to be a “source of inspiration” to Europe.

The Bible tells of a time when Europe will reorganize and that “kings” will rule and then turn their authority over to the Beast power:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

While the above may or may not directly involve King Philippe, it does show that a different type of government is coming to Europe.

Notice that certain Catholic prophecies tell of a time that Europe’s governments will change and that one of their leaders (the Great Monarch) will rise up:

Rudolph Gekner (died 1675): A great prince of the North with a most powerful army will traverse all Europe, uproot all republics, and exterminate all rebels. His sword moved by Divine power will most valiantly defend the Church of Jesus Christ. He will combat on behalf of the true orthodox faith, and shall subdue to his dominion the Mahometan Empire…Peace will come to the world.

Pseudo-Methodius (7^th century):…At that same time the Muslims will be killed and they will know the tribulation…The Lord will give them to the powers of the Christians whose empire will be elevated above all empires…The Roman King (Great Monarch) will show a great indignation against those who will have denied Christ in Egypt or in Arabia.

At least one Catholic writer I saw comment about this said that he felt that the first prophesy meant that the republics in Europe would be replaced with monarchies or something similar. That may be. Or they may still use titles such as president or prime minister. We will see.

The Catholic prophecies about change in Europe are consistent to a degree with biblical ones. Yet the “Great Monarch” many of them speak fondly of seems to be the one warned against as the Beast of Revelation and the King of the North in Daniel 11 (for details, please see the article Who is the King of the North?).

While it is difficult to know at this stage if or how King Philippe may be involved in end time affairs, since Belgium is one of the countries that I believe will support the Beast/Great Monarch power that will rise up in a reorganized Europe, King Philippe may have more involvement than most could now suspect.

CANBERRA, Australia: Two American fighter jets dropped four unarmed bombs into Australia’s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park last week when a training exercise went wrong, the U.S. Navy said, angering environmentalists.

The two AV-8B Harrier jets launched from aircraft carrier USS Bonhomme Richard each jettisoned an inert practice bomb and an unarmed laser-guided explosive bomb into the World Heritage-listed marine park off the coast of Queensland state on Tuesday, the U.S. 7th Fleet said in a statement Saturday…None exploded…

The emergency happened on the second day of the biennial joint training exercise Talisman Saber, which brings together 28,000 U.S. and Australian military personnel over three weeks.

Since none exploded, why report about this?

My report is intended to remind everyone that the USA and Australia, despite their geographic distance from each other, are close military allies.  Australia is one of only four counties (the UK, Canada, and New Zealand are the others) that is exempt from certain types of espionage from the USA government because it is considered to be a ‘close friend’ (see EU tells USA to stop spying on it as it asks for more information).

Last week, a survey was released that showed that 71% of Australians are concerned about the growing strength of the People’s Liberation Army of China (International survey reflects rise of China’s power and influence, and some USA issues.).  A reader sent me an email a few days ago about military steps that some believe that the USA is taking related to China:

The Pentagon has concluded that the time has come to prepare for war with China, and in a manner well beyond crafting the sort of contingency plans that are expected for wide a range of possible confrontations. It is a momentous conclusion that will shape the United States’ defense systems, force posture, and overall strategy for dealing with the economically and militarily resurgent China. Thus far, however, the military’s assessment of and preparations for the threat posed by China have not received the high level of review from elected civilian officials that such developments require. The start of a second Obama administration provides an opportunity for civilian authorities to live up to their obligations in this matter and to conduct a proper review of the United States’ China strategy and the military’s role in it.

China is becoming a military distraction for the USA and others, and while its threat appears carnally valid, the reality is that China is not, of itself, prophesied to takeover the USA (Europe is, see also Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?).  Because of its focus on China as well as domestic concerns, the USA is not only overlooking the threat from Europe, it is actually assisting Europe in a variety of military ways (including technology, information, strategy, and actions) that will assist Europe in taking over the USA (watch also Will USA Spying Help the Beast Power?).

But in 2009 in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, I wrote that China may take over Australia, and I still believe that.

I also warned the day it was announced that she became Prime Minister of Australia that I felt that Julia Gillard would take steps to fulfill prophecies that also could get the Chinese interested in Australia (see Australia Now Has a Female Prime Minister: Prophetic Ramifications?); later I added more specifics (Gillard and Obama Finalize Australia Military Deal).  And later her steps did upset the Chinese, and the Chinese made militaristic statements that confirmed my prediction about this (Australia accepts US troops, China not pleased).

So, while the bomb dropping by the USA in the Great Barrier Reef was not originally planned, military exercises with Australia were. While carnally speaking this type of military cooperation will appear to make sense to both the USA and Australia, it will not end up well for either of them.

The area near the former Ambassador College campus in Big Sandy, Texas made the news:

BIG SANDY — Each summer, Ryann Hargis travels almost 500 miles to spend time in the place where she feels most at home and where she will be “spiritually nourished.”

“It’s refreshing. It’s a break from everything society throws at you,” Hargis said. “This is the place where I feel most myself.”

Hargis, of Amarillo, is training to be a counselor at The Pines Catholic Camp in Big Sandy, a place where she was a camper for years.

“I wanted to be part of this because it’s been so special to me,” Hargis said of The Pines. “I want to make an impact.”

There was an area at the AC campus in Big Sandy (and it still may be called the same) that was called the Piney Woods.  I personally stayed in a small tent there for the Feast of Tabernacles in 1980.

But the old Worldwide Church of God sold it.  It also sold the campuses in Bricket Wood, England and Pasadena, California.

This week I reported that I heard that the heretical/apostate Philadelphia Church of God (PCG) announced that it was buying much of the property of Bricket Wood (see PCG reportedly buys Bricket Wood campus).

The old Pasadena campus was also in the news today:

PASADENA – It’s taken 15 years, four developers, one receivership and countless contentious neighborhood meetings, but the first 10 townhouses in one of the city’s largest, most prestigious housing developments will go on the market this fall. “The Bungalows” in the newly named Ambassador Gardens, the first of 150 luxury townhouses and flats, have a price tag in the “low $1 million” range. And, as work continues on developing the former Worldwide Church of God’s Ambassador College campus, demolition is under way on the distinctive “egg-crate” building that’s been a familiar sight for decades from Orange Grove Boulevard,

It’s a day some in the city thought might never come.

“Well, it has been a long, long saga, as many of these issues have been,” said Sue Mossman, executive director of Pasadena Heritage, one of the groups, along with the West Pasadena Residents Association, that fought early proposals to put about 2,000 units on the former Worldwide Church of God’s bucolic campus…

The development saga began in 2004, five years after the Worldwide Church of God put its entire 49-acre Ambassador College campus on the market; a bitter doctrinal schism ended tithing and led to the financial problems that finally closed the college after 50 years in Pasadena. The church later sold the campus in three pieces. Maranatha School and Harvest Rock Church — which now owns the famed Ambassador Auditorium — moved on to the west campus in 2004; the same year, Sares Regis bought the 12-acre east campus for a mixed retail and residential development.

It wasn’t until 2007 that plans hashed out by Ambassador West — the third developer — won over the city and neighbors with drastically scaled-back density that preserved 12 acres of open space.

In May 2013, I also reported that the more of the Pasadena campus was being demolished (More Ambassador campus demolition).  While I do not like to see the beautiful buildings in Pasadena demolished or apostates taking over the other campuses, the reality is that the Church of God is a spiritual organism and not a building or group of buildings.

True Christians have the Holy Spirit of God:

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you (Romans 8:9-11).

True Christians hear the gospel message, accept that they have sinned and need God, have repented of their sins, accept God’s calling, declare and believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, have been properly baptized, and possess God’s Holy Spirit (Acts 2:39; Romans 8:9-11). While there is a place and often a need for buildings,  some get overly fixated about them.

In light of what has happened to the campuses of Ambassador College and some of the building projects of some (PCG, and RCG both come to mind; to learn more about RCG’s building projects, see 07/20/13 a.m. post at  News of those once affiliated with the Global Church of God page), a writing from the then long-time evangelist WCG Lerof Neff in 1986 may be helpful for some to ponder:

What are the credentials?

Some people would look to a prophet’s or minister’s credentials. He would be accepted if he were educated at a recognized theological institution. Others would look for a minister’s popularity, his charisma, his personality or his speaking ability.

But the Scriptures show that God’s servants have sometimes not had these qualities or credentials. They were not graduates of the recognized theological institutions of their day. Moses had trouble speaking in public (Exodus 4: 10). Jeremiah was “too young” (Jeremiah 1:6). Paul lacked certain speech abilities (I Corinthians 2: 1, II Corinthians 10:10). Even Jesus Himself had no outstanding personal characteristics that set Him apart from others, as the religious leaders had to pay Judas to point Him (Matthew 26:47-49).

Some would expect to find a true minister or prophet in a large and beautiful church building. Yet, during the history of the early Church, there is no mention of church buildings. Instead we read that the Church was not a building at all, but the people who were called out of this world to become the Church. The people (the Church) met in various buildings, sometimes in Church members’ homes (Romans 16:5, I Corinthians 16:19, Philemon 2). Paul preached for two years while under house arrest in rented facilities. He probably had both living quarters and a meeting hall of some kind (Acts 28:30-31)…

How, then, can you tell a true prophet from a false one? That is the important question we must now answer from the Scriptures, and not from human reason… A true prophet or servant of God will speak according to God’s law. He will speak according to God’s commandments. His way of life will be that of a commandment keeper, not a commandment breaker. He will not just be preaching a gospel about Christ, but he will be preaching the same Gospel that Christ and the original apostles preached – the good news of the coming Kingdom of God on earth. That is the way to determine who are impostors and who are God’s true prophets, ministers and teachers. (Neff LL. Imposter–or–True Prophet — Which? Good News, December 1986, pp. 10-12)

As Leroy Neff wrote, what is more important than buildings is truly speaking the truth according to God’s law (and that is why people such as PCG’s Gerald Flurryare not prophets of God and not be an intentional commandment breaker (which is part of why RCG’s David Pack not God’s apostle).

What some do not realize is that the Gospel message will be proclaimed to the world (Matthew 24:14) and that proclamation it is not dependent upon physical assets.

Israel has decided to release prisoners, that it has considered to be a threat to its security, as a ‘good faith’ gesture so that ‘peace talks’ with the Palestinians can resume:

Israel has agreed to release a “limited” number of Palestinian prisoners, a day after the two governments agreed to head back to negotiations in hopes of settling long-standing differences.

Israeli government minister Yuval Steinitz made the announcement Saturday, without giving specific details about the number of prisoners or their identities.

Late Friday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry…praised both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Abbas for making some difficult choices…

Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians collapsed in 2010.

White House officials said President Barack Obama called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday to ask him to work with Kerry to “resume negotiations with the Palestinians as soon as possible.”

Earlier this week, in Jordan, Kerry met with representatives of Arab states that support a comprehensive peace plan. Israel has said it will release “heavyweight” Palestinian prisoners as part of an agreement to enter preliminary talks in Washington, with the aim of an eventual resumption of long-stalled peace negotiations.

Hours after the US secretary of state, John Kerry, announced that the two sides in the conflict had agreed to discuss terms for negotiations, Yuval Steiniz, Israel’s minister for international relations, said a prisoner release would be carried out in stages.

“I don’t want to give numbers but there will be heavyweight prisoners who have been in jail for tens of years,” he told Israel Radio. The release of long-serving prisoners has been a key Palestinian demand.

But Steinitz said Israel would balk at agreeing on the pre-1967 border as the parameter for territorial negotiations. “There is no chance we will agree to enter any negotiations that begin with defining territorial borders or concessions by Israel, nor a [settlement] construction freeze,” he said. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jul/20/israel-to-free-heavyweight-palestinian-prisoners

Interesting developments the past few days.  On Wednesday, the EU announced that it would pressure Israel and again indicated that wants Israel to basically go back to its pre-1967 borders (see EU to put more pressure on Israel: A prelude to Daniel 9:27?).  On Thursday, US President Obama pressures Israel to do something to get the talks resumed.  On Friday, US Secretary of State says the talks will resume.  On Saturday (today), Israel says it will release prisoners.

It appears that Israel is responding to international pressure, not from the Palestinians, but from its biggest trading partners and military suppliers (Israel, not only trades with both, but also buys certain military items from both the USA and EU).

It has long been my view that Israel will not agree to the type of seven-year covenant what the Bible mentions in Daniel 9:27 without pressure.  Though, in my view, Israel will require more pressure than this for that specific deal–but it could make various ‘peace deals’ prior to the prophesied one.

As far as the prophesied one in Daniel, here is some of what the Bible states:

26 And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate (Daniel 9:26-27).

The ‘one week’ has generally been understood by prophecy watchers to mean a seven year deal, that is broken in the middle of it (after 3 1/2 years).  More on this deal can be found in the article When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?

As it turns out, because of concerns that Israel has about it own safety and survival, Israel will not likely to agree to this type of deal without additional pressure.  This pressure likely will include military and/or economic pressures.

However, there will also likely need to be pressure affecting the Arab/Palestinian side, and this very well may come as the result of a regional war or conflict (likely involving Israel), including possibly a conflict that will result in the prophesied destruction of Damascus, Syria (Isaiah 17:1).

The result of the deal in Daniel 9:27 is that 3 1/2 years after it is confirmed, a military force from Europe will enter Israel (Daniel 11:31).  Notice what Jesus said about that:

15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.  17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.  18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.  19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!  20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.  21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.  (Matthew 24:15-22)

A deal that is ‘confirmed’ for seven years by the Europeans is a key event that will result in destruction ultimately coming.

The situation is tense in the Middle East, and while peace is good, the coming ‘peace deal’ will disappoint and result in destruction (though there could be, and probably will be, other deals first that are not the deal in Daniel 9:27).

A rare ‘wrong way’ heat wave has hit the parts of the USA:

Americans can expect another unbearably hot day Friday, from the East Coast to the Midwest, with the heat index (which factors in humidity) expected to top 100 degrees in many areas.

The National Weather Service said heat advisories and warnings will remain in effect from the Midwest and Ohio River Valley through the Northeast, a day after triple-digit heat index numbers were logged across many Northeastern states…

Those looking for relief for triple-digit heat index numbers won’t find it today. In New York City yesterday, where temperatures hit a record 100 degrees, one woman told CBS News, “It’s miserable. It feels like I’m living inside of a dog’s mouth.”

But what is making this week’s oppressively hot weather so unusual is its direction. It’s moving backward across America, something that meteorologists say rarely happens.

Normally U.S. weather systems move west-to-east. The western Atlantic high pressure system behind the hot dry weather started moving east-to-west last week, and by Tuesday was centered over lower Michigan, said Jon Gottschalck, the operations chief at the National Weather Service’s prediction branch.

Could the extreme weather be at all related to the growing legal acceptance of homosexual marriage and other abominations in the USA?

What does the Bible teach?

The Bible, in several places, ties weather issues to Sodom and Gomorrah, cities that were destroyed for sins such as their sexual immorality:

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6)

Notice the following about heat:

23 ‘The whole land is brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’ 24 All nations would say, ‘Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?’ 25 Then people would say: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers…(Deuteronomy 29:23-25)

Notice also the following scriptures from the Book of Amos:

7 “I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

“I blasted you with blight and mildew. (Amos 4:7-9)

Will weather problems cause people to turn to God? Or will they be determined to continue to turn further away from biblical morality?

People who advocate acceptance of homosexuality as harmless may also wish to notice something else that God had the prophets Amos and Jeremiah write would happen some time after the drought and weather problems:

11 “I overthrew some of you,
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!” (Amos 4:11-12)

38 A drought is against her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is the land of carved images, And they are insane with their idols. 39 “Therefore the wild desert beasts shall dwell there with the jackals, And the ostriches shall dwell in it. It shall be inhabited no more forever, Nor shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation. 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah And their neighbors,” says the Lord, “So no one shall reside there, Nor son of man dwell in it. (Jeremiah 50:38-40)

So, both Amos and Jeremiah tied the warning of a drought in with later being over thrown like Sodom and Gomorrah–and remember the Bible says that Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown as examples for those who would go after “strange flesh” (2 Peter 2:6).

God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah for their pride and acceptance of homosexuality (see also The Bible Condemns Homosexuality).
