Israeli Minister of Intelligence, Yuval Steinitz, has told HARDtalk he hopes the diplomatic process with Iran over its nuclear programme will be successful.

Now, I was not planning about posting about Iran today, but as part of my mid-day Bible study, read the following passages:

1 The burden against the Valley of Vision.

What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the housetops, 2 You who are full of noise, A tumultuous city, a joyous city? Your slain men are not slain with the sword,Nor dead in battle. 3 All your rulers have fled together; They are captured by the archers.All who are found in you are bound together; They have fled from afar. 4 Therefore I said, “Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; Do not labor to comfort me Because of the plundering of the daughter of my people.”

5 For it is a day of trouble and treading down and perplexity By the Lord God of hosts In the Valley of Vision — Breaking down the walls And of crying to the mountain. 6 Elam bore the quiver With chariots of men and horsemen, And Kir uncovered the shield. 7 It shall come to pass that your choicest valleys Shall be full of chariots,And the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.

8 He removed the protection of Judah. You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest; 9 You also saw the damage to the city of David, That it was great; And you gathered together the waters of the lower pool. 10 You numbered the houses of Jerusalem,And the houses you broke down To fortify the wall. 11 You also made a reservoir between the two walls For the water of the old pool.But you did not look to its Maker,Nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago.

12 And in that day the Lord God of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning,For baldness and for girding with sackcloth. 13 But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

14 Then it was revealed in my hearing by the Lord of hosts,”Surely for this iniquity there will be no atonement for you, Even to your death,” says the Lord God of hosts.  (Isaiah 22:1-14)

Elam seems to be a reference to at least some in Iran.  Kir is of interest as it has several possibilities.  One is that the Bible tells that after Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria took over Damascus, he moved Syrians to Kir.  While this does not mean that Kir must (or must only) be a reference to Syria, the fact that Syria is an ally of Iran is interesting.  Some believe Kir is an area in the south of Iran, while others suggest closer to the Black Sea.

Anyway, the point I wish to make is that the above  scripture shows, presuming that it has a future application, that a time is coming when God will take away the protection of Judah and the City of David (Jerusalem, cf. 2 Kings 9:28).

Iran has claimed that it will take over Jerusalem and give it to one called the Imam Mahdi.  This was the subject of a video years ago (for details, see Iran’s Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem?).

Because of Iranian Shit’ite Muslim beliefs about a leader called the Imam Mahdi (see also Iran’s President-elect wants to negotiate with the USA and credits the ‘Islamic messiah’ for his election), statements that Iran intends to wipe Israel off the map, as well as statements from its Supreme Leader Khamenei (Khamenei Has Claimed Iranian Nuclear Weapons Need for the Arrival of the 12th Imam), it may well be that Iran will decide at some point in time to attack Jerusalem.

As regular readers of the COGwriter news page are aware, I have been warning for some time that a regional war involving Iran, Israel, the USA, and/or Syria seems likely.

Since Iran, however, is NOT really south of Jerusalem (though it may support such a king per certain interpretations of the peoples listed in Ezekiel 30:1-9), it will not be the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:40-43). Because of that, I have tended to believe that Iran may somehow get “neutralized” before this final king rises up. A serious attack by the USA and/or Israel may neutralize Iran and much of its influence–but Iran might hit hard first.

“Neutralizing” Iran would allow most of the other Islamic states (like Saudi Arabia and Egypt) to continue to exist (Syria might not do well per Isaiah 17:1) and allow for the rising of the prophesied King of the South to rise up (revolution in Iran, is also another possibility, for its “neutralization”).

Iran may have a role in Isaiah 22 and this will not bode well for Israel (and probably ultimately not Iran).

Martin Luther

October 31st marks the day that Martin Luther hammered his now famous 95 theses back in 1517.

While the Church of Rome now agrees with many of the items on his list, back then this caused tremendous dissension and was a key factor in the so-called Protestant Reformation.

While the terms “word of God” and “Scriptures” is in English translations of what Martin Luther wrote, the 95 theses did not contain what became the rallying cry of his movement, “sola Scriptura,” which is Latin for “only Scripture.”

One of the major problems that I have had with Protestantism is that my experience suggests that Protestants do not follow that rallying cry of their movement.

But this should not be a surprise as Martin Luther himself did not believe in sola Scriptura either.

For proof, let’s start with this quote from Martin Luther:

My word is the word of Christ; my mouth is the mouth of Christ” (O’Hare PF. The Facts About Luther, 1916–1987 reprint ed., pp. 203-204).

[Specifically, what Martin Luther wrote in German was “”Ich bin sehr gewiss, dass mein Wort nitt mein, sondern Christus Wort sei, so muss mein Mund auch des sein, des Wort er redet” (Luther, 682) – also translated as “I am confident that it is not my word, but Christ’s word, so my mouth is His who utters the words”(God’s words – the violence of representation. Universitatea din Bucuresti, 2002. http://www.unibuc.ro/eBooks/filologie/meanings/1.htm, September 25, 2003).]

Martin Luther seemed to believe he could change the Bible. For example, Romans 3:28 states,

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

Yet, Martin Luther, in his German translation of the Bible, specifically added the word “allein” (English ‘alone’) to Romans 3:28-a word that is not in the original Greek. Notice what Protestant scholars have admitted:

…Martin Luther would once again emphasize…that we are “justified by faith alone”, apart from the works of the Law” (Rom. 3:28), adding the German word allein (“alone”) in his translation of the Greek text. There is certainly a trace of Marcion in Luther’s move (Brown HOJ. Heresies: Heresy and Orthodoxy in the History of the Church. Hendrickson Publishers, Peabody (MA), 1988, pp. 64-65).

Furthermore, Martin Luther himself reportedly said,

You tell me what a great fuss the Papists are making because the word alone in not in the text of Paul…say right out to him: ‘Dr. Martin Luther will have it so,’…I will have it so, and I order it to be so, and my will is reason enough. I know very well that the word ‘alone’ is not in the Latin or the Greek text (Stoddard J. Rebuilding a Lost Faith. 1922, pp. 101-102; see also Luther M. Amic. Discussion, 1, 127).

This passage strongly suggests that Martin Luther viewed his opinions, and not the actual Bible as the primary authority–a concept which this author will name prima Luther. By “papists” he is condemning Roman Catholics, but is needs to be understood that Protestant scholars (like HOJ Brown) also realize that Martin Luther changed that scripture.

A review of Martin Luther’s writings show that he changed or diminished the importance of at least 18 books of the Bible” (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Esther, Job, Ecclesiastes, Jonah, Matthew, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation. Martin Luther did not properly view the word of God.

Those in the real Church of God believe that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and, and is profitable for doctrine” (II Timothy 3:16, NKJV). Martin Luther did not truly hold to that belief.

The true Church of God has always based its real doctrines on the Bible and has not discounted the Bible (or books of it) like Martin Luther has.

Late yesterday, I looked up the Alexa popularity rankings for Church of God (COG) groups whose leaders had once been part of the old Global Church of God (GCG).  And this was posted at the News of Those Once Affiliated with GCG page.

Upon reflection, it occurred to me that others might also be interested in seeing the results.

I have included all the main English-language sites of the GCG-affiliated COG groups that I am aware of.

Although he was once part of GCG, since I am convinced that David Pack is a false apostle (2 Corinthians 11:13) and one who uses covetous words (cf. 2 Peter 2:1-3), I do not consider that he is truly part of the COG (see also Why Not the Restored Church of God?).  Hence despite the money his group pours into the internet,  I have not included those websites associated with his church (and yes, I know they have Alexa popularity).

Although the leadership in some COG groups prefer to believe their internet impact is higher than it is, I like to use a source such as Alexa to give a relative impact on how websites compare to the multiple millions of sites out there (one page suggested that there are about 500,000,000 websites).

Alexa is an independent internet source that looks at the overall popularity of websites based upon factors such as number of visits, repeat visits, amount of time spent at a website, amount of links clicked at the site, etc.  Though some prefer not to believe its results, notice the following review of Alexa ratings:

The lower the number of an Alexa rating the greater the impact. For example, google.com has an Alexa ranking of 1, meaning it is the most popular website in the world, and facebook.com has an Alexa ranking of 2, meaning that it is the second most popular website in the world according to Alexa (number 3 is YouTube.com). Websites with Alexa rankings of over 15,000,000, as well as those who reach is too limited to be ranked by Alexa, do not have much impact. As of 2013, Alexa provides traffic data, global rankings and other information on 30 million websites, and thus any not Alexa rated have very limited reach and simply are not popular.

The above suggests that the popularity reach of the Continuing Church of God exceeds almost all other one-time GCG-affiliated groups on the internet combined. Yet, that is not completely accurate as LCG’s youtube presence is not included above as Alexa does not rank individual youtube channels. But it does show, that even without having a full-time internet staff that the Continuing Church of God does better than nearly all others reaching people over the internet.  Interestingly, as of today, the Alexa ranking of COGwriter.com has now improved to 159,609. 

Recall that Jesus taught:

14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

Notice that the gospel of the kingdom will reach the world as a witness, then the end will come.  And I believe that the internet will be a major factor in this.

Proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God to the world as a witness over the internet (as well as through printed literature, radio, personal contact, etc.) is something that we in the Continuing Church of God are serious about.

There is a difference between the groups that once had connections to GCG. Only one can lead The Final Phase of the Work.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

Halloween is often considered as a Roman Catholic holiday, but within Catholicism there are different views of it, and there are differing views in other groups.

Here is the view of one Catholic writer endorsing Halloween:

It should be noted that Halloween is a Catholic holiday. Pope Gregory IV in 835 made it the universal practice in the Roman Catholic Church to celebrate All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1. All Souls’ Day follows the next day as the commemoration of all of the faithful who have departed.

“All Hallows’ Even” as the evening before All Hallows’ Day — All Saints’ Day – eventually became shortened to Halloween. Hallow, as in “hallowed be thy name” in the Lord’s Prayer, is an older form of the word “holy.”

It was the Protestant Reformation that rejected the universal practice of devotion to the dead (Martin Luther dropped any references to praying for the dead from his Bible). This Catholic holiday was attacked, much like the church as a whole, for being pagan and evil. Hence I wouldn’t be surprised if this cloud of suspicion hovering over Halloween originated from the spirit of anti-Catholicism.

But Nov. 1st was the day of the Celtic Summer’s End feast of Samhain, the day when the dead returned to the earth. We have retained some of these pagan elements to Halloween, as is true of Christmas and Easter.

Why would a pope put the Catholic celebration of the dead on top of the pagans’ celebrations of the dead? Because the Catholic feasts are in continuity and fulfill the meaning of the pagan ones…

So what about the indulgence in the spooky and scary? Skeletons are spooky, but they are also very Catholic. In fact, one couldn’t find a better haunted house for a Halloween pilgrimage than the various “chapel of bones” that can be found across Europe (Killian Brian. While the above author claims that anti-Catholic sentiments are perhaps the reason for objections to Halloween, it should be noted that more recently other Catholic leaders have condemned it, while Protestant supporters, like some of those at Christianity Today endorse its observance and attempt to profit commercially from it (for specific see the article American’s Expected to Spend Nearly $7 Billion on Halloween, CT Wants its Share).

Denouncements From Roman Catholics

Interestingly, the powerful Roman Catholic archdiocese in Mexico City condemned Halloween observance as pagan in 2007, though it is still being observed by practicing Catholics there:

Mexico’s Roman Catholic church slammed Halloween as “damaging and against the faith” on Monday, as conservatives sought to stem celebration of the ghouls-and-goblins holiday and return to the country’s traditional Day of the Dead.

The U.S.-style holiday has made broad inroads in Mexico, with monster costumes almost as widely sold as the marigold flowers traditionally used to decorate relatives’ graves during Nov. 1-2 Day of the Dead ceremonies, when families build altars and leave food, drink and flowers for the dearly departed.

“Those who celebrate Halloween are worshipping a culture of death that is the product of a mix of pagan customs,” the Archdiocese of Mexico published in an article on its Web site Monday. “The worst thing is that this celebration has been identified with neo-pagans, Satanism and occult worship.”

The archdiocese urged parents not to let their children wear Halloween costumes or go trick-or-treating — instead suggesting Sunday school classes to “teach them the negative things about Halloween,” costume parties where children can dress up as Biblical characters, and candy bags complete with instructions to give friends a piece while telling them “God loves you.”…

Pre-Hispanic cultures celebrated a similar holiday in August, but after the Spanish conquest, historians say the date was changed to Nov. 1 to coincide with the Catholic holiday…

In another article, Onesimo Herrera-Flores complained that “Halloween, for a variety of reasons, has imposed itself on other nations, displacing native customs.”

Celebrating Halloween, he said, citing a church authority, is “like inviting Satan into your home.” (Mexico’s Catholic church slams Halloween; conservatives call for return to Day of Dead. The Vatican has condemned Hallowe’en as anti-Christian, saying it is based on a sinister and dangerous “undercurrent of occultism”.

The Holy See has warned that parents should not allow their children to dress up as ghosts and ghouls on Saturday, calling Hallowe’en a pagan celebration of “terror, fear and death”.

The Roman Catholic Church has become alarmed in recent years by the spread of Hallowe’en traditions from the US to other countries around the world.

As in Britain, it is only in recent years that Italian children have dressed up in costumes, played trick or treat on their neighbours and made lanterns out of hollowed out pumpkins.

The Vatican issued the warning through its official newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, in an article headlined “Hallowe’en’s Dangerous Messages”.

The paper quoted a liturgical expert, Joan Maria Canals, who said: “Hallowe’en has an undercurrent of occultism and is absolutely anti-Christian.”

Parents should “be aware of this and try to direct the meaning of the feast towards wholesomeness and beauty rather than terror, fear and death,” said Father Canals, a member of a Spanish commission on church rites.

Last year a newspaper controlled by the Italian bishops, Avvenire, called for a boycott of Hallowe’en, calling it a “dangerous celebration of horror and the macabre” which could encourage “pitiless [Satanic] sects without scruples”.

Earlier this week the Catholic Church in Spain also condemned the growing popularity of Halloween….

In the Philippines, Catholic schools have discouraged Halloween:

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) has called on its member schools to shun Halloween parties…“Iwasan natin ang mga ganyang Halloween party kasi hindi naman Christian holidays… (Let’s avoid holding Halloween parties because Halloween is not a Christian holiday…),” CEAP president Fr. Gregg Bañaga reportedly said in a CBCP News article. The report also noted that the Catholic Church has been against the idea of glorifying evil during Halloween rites. It is good when religious leaders discourage those who profess Christ from observing pagan holidays with pagan practices.

Halloween is pagan and leaders in many professing Christian churches, including Catholic ones, know this.

All theological scholars realize that the apostolic church did not observe Halloween or anything resembling it.

Notice also the following scripture:

Thus says the LORD: “Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven,
For the Gentiles are dismayed at them. For the customs of the peoples are futile (Jeremiah 10:2-3).

At their absolute best, Halloween customs are futile, came from the way of the Gentiles, and detract from the emphasis to worship the true God. Those in the Church of God have always realized this. And many in the Church of Rome are getting some understanding of that.

Halloween is not a holiday that the earliest Christians observed. It should not be observed by modern Christians either.

Many in Europe are upset by USA espionage.  Notice the following:

European Union Commissioner for Justice Viviane Reding told CBS News that any surveillance without court approval would be criminal…European lawmakers are also accusing the U.S. of probing financial transactions and Reding questioned whether the U.S. used security as an excuse to gain an economic upper-hand.

“Why are you sucking up information and why are you listening to the phone of a head of state, head of government?” she asked. “Why you listen to the phone of millions of innocent Europeans? This has nothing to do with fighting terrorism. Trade wars and other economic disagreements will be part of how European leaders will persuade many Europeans that the USA is not a friend, but an enemy.  This is consistent with what I have been warning for years.   This espionage scandal the USA is hurting the USA now and will hurt it more in the future.

Notice that the European Union Commissioner for Justice stated that the USA espionage has “nothing to do with fighting terrorism.”  Much of the information gathering that the USA’s NSA has been involved in is for economic and political control.  And that includes not only the spying, but also the forced financial disclosures that it makes its own residents do.

The government of the USA has increasingly been able to get away with this against its residents and citizens.  Residents basically have to put up with it as the government is large and has little interest in the protections that citizens were supposed to have under the Constitution of the USA.  But while USA residents have relatively little they can really do about this, the Europeans are in a different situation.

The European Union is larger than the USA, generally has a total economic output greater than that of the USA, is (in some areas) becoming more technologically advanced than the USA, and can exert unique pressures on the USA.

Because of this, combined with USA embarrassment for getting caught, the USA will basically turn over too much information to the Europeans, as well as make a variety of promises (some of which it will likely not keep) about placing limits on its European surveillance.

This will give the Europeans a major MILITARY advantage when the rising European Beast power decides that it must rid the world of the excesses of the USA.  And while currently, the Europeans do not yet have the military ability to beat the USA, the time is coming when the strongest military power (the USA) will be taken over by a European military power (Daniel 11:39).  This will stun the world (Revelation 13:4).

Hopefully, it will not surprise you.

The interim government in Egypt keeps trying to gain full control of that country, but many still support the Muslim Brotherhood (the group that held power before the military coup last July):

(Reuters) – Egyptian police fired teargas at protesting students at Cairo’s al-Azhar university on Wednesday hours after authorities announced the detention of Muslim Brotherhood leader Essam El-Erian, part of a crackdown against the Islamist movement.

Erian, deputy leader of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice party, was taken into custody from a residence in New Cairo where he had been in hiding, an Interior Ministry source told Reuters.

At the al-Azhar university’s main campus, students smashed windows, hurled chairs and covered walls of an administrative building with graffiti.

Security forces arrested Essam el-Erian, the deputy leader of the Brotherhood’s political wing, at a home Wednesday in New Cairo.  He had been in hiding and was one of the few top Brotherhood officials who remained free.

Hundreds of Brotherhood leaders, including Morsi, have been arrested since July and charged with inciting violence. The deposed leader’s supporters have carried out mass protests demanding he be reinstated. Some of the demonstrations have turned violent.

The militarily-installed government that removed Egypt’s President Morsi (of the Muslim Brotherhood) from power would like to think it can control everything through the military, but it cannot do that forever. Most in Egypt are Muslim and many favor a more Islamic government.

The Muslim Brotherhood still wants an Islamic Empire which include Western Africa and running as far east as Indonesia. They also want Spain as it once was dominated by Muslims–but they will not end up with that according to biblical prophecy. The Bible itself teaches that a confederation of nations from North Africa to the Middle East will form and have a leader called the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43). The Muslim Brotherhood’s credo was and is, “Allah is our objective; the Quran is our law, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.”

The whole region of North Africa and the Middle East (including the Arab peninsula) will change. A dictatorial leader will ultimately emerge and turn the region of North Africa and the Middle East into a massive state that will profess loyalty to Islam while also making deceptive deals with the Europeans (cf. Daniel 11:27; 9:27).

The Bible is clear that a King of the South will rise up in the areas of North Africa and the Middle East (Daniel 11:40-43). Egypt will lead or at least support this King, and Egypt will not fare well (Daniel 11:42).

An Egyptian-related confederation is also discussed in Ezekiel:

4 The sword shall come upon Egypt,And great anguish shall be in Ethiopia, When the slain fall in Egypt, And they take away her wealth, And her foundations are broken down.

5 “Ethiopia, Libya, Lydia, all the mingled people, Chub, and the men of the lands who are allied, shall fall with them by the sword.”

6 ‘Thus says the Lord:

“Those who uphold Egypt shall fall,And the pride of her power shall come down.From Migdol to Syene Those within her shall fall by the sword,” Says the Lord God. 7 “They shall be desolate in the midst of the desolate countries, And her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are laid waste. 8 Then they will know that I am the Lord, When I have set a fire in Egypt And all her helpers are destroyed. 9 On that day messengers shall go forth from Me in ships To make the careless Ethiopians afraid, And great anguish shall come upon them, As on the day of Egypt; For indeed it is coming!” (Ezekiel 30:4-9)

It will likely be a religious, Islamic-oriented, government that will help create the coming confederation. And the Bible shows that Egypt will not fare well in the future. Events in Egypt are setting the stage for these and other prophecies to be fulfilled.

The following may be related to the King of the South or possibly the King of the North who will defeat the southern king:

4 And the Egyptians I will give
Into the hand of a cruel master,
And a fierce king will rule over them,
Says the Lord, the Lord of hosts. (Isaiah 19:4)

Isaiah 31 lists the destruction of “the Egyptians” (1-3) ahead of “Assyria” (vss. 8-9), just like the Book of Daniel places the destruction of the king of the South (Daniel 11:40-43) ahead of the king of the North (11:45).

Notice more quotes of the scriptures in Isaiah as they point to a time of chaos and then destruction in Egypt:

3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God;
And their horses are flesh, and not spirit.
When the Lord stretches out His hand,
Both he who helps will fall,
And he who is helped will fall down;
They all will perish together. (Isaiah 31:3)

1 The burden against Egypt.

Behold, the Lord rides on a swift cloud, And will come into Egypt; The idols of Egypt will totter at His presence, And the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst.

2 “I will set Egyptians against Egyptians; Everyone will fight against his brother, And everyone against his neighbor, City against city, kingdom against kingdom. 3 The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst; I will destroy their counsel, And they will consult the idols and the charmers, The mediums and the sorcerers.  (Isaiah 19:1-3)

Interestingly, the Catholic saint Jerome apparently felt that the King of the South was from Egypt as he wrote about Daniel 11:

As for the Antichrist, there is no question but what he is going to fight against the holy covenant, and that when he first makes war against the king of Egypt, he shall straightway be frightened off by the assistance of the Romans… the Antichrist…shall first fight against the king of the South, or Egypt, and shall afterwards conquer Libya and Ethiopia (Jerome. Commentary on Daniel, Chapter 11. Translated by Gleason L. Archer. (1958). While Jerome is confused on some points (the Antichrist is not the King of the North, but a supporter of that king; and it is more likely that Americans and not Romans frighten him off in Daniel 11:30), he is correct in indicating that the Beast power will over-power the King of the South and conquer Egypt and Libya.

Egypt is not prophesied to remain an isolated nation as it currently is.  Change will come. Today’s protests show that there are those in Egypt who still want that change.

The plan to put together a Eurasian Union seems to be getting a bit closer:

Eurasian Economic Union to replace Customs Union

India, Turkey and even Syria may become members of this new economic bloc.

At a summit held in Minsk, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan confirmed their intention to form a Eurasian Economic Union in 2015, on the basis of the Customs Union. Subsequently, Turkey, India and even Syria may join this new alliance, according to the leaders…

Putin kept in reserve his main argument in favor of further integration. He said that, during Monday’s visit of the Indian prime minister to Moscow, the prime minister asked him to consider the possibility of signing a free trade area agreement with the Customs Union.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin, at a press conference after the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Minsk, said that Ukraine would not be able to join the union after the signing of the agreement on associated membership in the EU.  http://rbth.ru/international/2013/10/28/eurasian_economic_union_to_replace_customs_union_31237.html

At this moment, Ukraine and Georgia seem to not be options for the initial Eurasian Union, but international politics have a tendency to change.  Turkey probably will not completely be part of the Eurasian Union, but it may end up with some type of status with it.  Syria will ultimately end up supporting the coming King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43), but could, prior to that, have some involvement with other confederations.

The Bible supports that there will be a confederation of nations tied to a northern power, like Russia:

50:41 “Behold, a people shall come from the north,
And a great nation and many kings
Shall be raised up from the ends of the earth.
42 They shall hold the bow and the lance;
They are cruel and shall not show mercy.
Their voice shall roar like the sea;
They shall ride on horses,
Set in array, like a man for the battle,
Against you, O daughter of Babylon.
43 “The king of Babylon has heard the report about them,
And his hands grow feeble;
Anguish has taken hold of him,
Pangs as of a woman in childbirth…”(Jeremiah 50:41-43).

The above shows that a coming European empire (the “daughter of Babylon”) is to be destroyed by a northern (apparently Russian led) force. This force that has “kings” from “the ends of the earth” will apparently be those from the far north and the far east. This is consistent with Daniel 11:44. And the “many kings” is consistent with the “kings of the sunrise” of Revelation 16:12 (literal translation).

Notice that the “king of Babylon” the “daughter of Babylon” heard reports about them. This is totally consistent with the King of the North being troubled by “news from the east and the north” (Daniel 11:44).

Russian and most of the Eurasian Union is north and/or east of Europe.  An expanding Eurasian Union is a goal of Russia:

Eurasian Union (EAU), is without a doubt the dream of Russian President Vladimir Putin who proposed forming a Eurasian Union with Kazakhstan and Belarus and in November 2011, the presidents of these three countries signed an agreement, a key breakthrough, to launch and make it fully operational by 2015… Strategic experts say Eurasian Union is a Moscow’s teeth crushing reply to USA on NATO expansion in Eastern Europe and central states will come in a position to bargain whether to look towards Europe or enter into Eurasian Union to grab maximum economical and financial benefits offered to them. We do not dwell on it and set an ambitious goal: get to the next higher level of integration – the Eurasian Union.

What we see them and outline the prospects of this project?

First, we are not talking about that in one form or another to recreate the Soviet Union…

Second, the Eurasian Union will serve as a center for further integration. That is, will be formed by the gradual merging of the existing structures – the Customs Union, the Common Economic Space.

Thirdly, it would be a mistake to oppose the Eurasian Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Each of these structures has its place and its role in the post-Soviet space. Russia and its partners will actively work to improve the institutions of the Commonwealth, the saturation of its practical agenda. So, this is something that Russia wants to build.

But what about India?

It is not north of Europe, but it is most certainly east of it–and powers to the north AND east will trouble the final European empire (cf. Daniel 11:44).

Only Asian forces, such as those in China and India and likely many others, could put together a 200,000,000 man army. India, China, and others in Asia will apparently align themselves with a Russia confederation against the European Empire.  The fact that India is expressing some limited interest now may mean that it will be more willing to have greater cooperation with a Russian-led block in the future is consistent with biblical prophecy.

As more countries consider the Eurasian Union, this organization may well be part of the confederation that will fulfill end time Bible prophecy.

“There is much talk today about the risks of a new era of American isolationism and a lack of U.S. leadership in the world. It is important to remember that isolationism can be triggered not only by a potential retreat from global affairs, but also by the rather imprudent use of America’s hard and soft power on the world stage,” writes Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg for Project Syndicate.

The espionage scandal involving the USA is hurting the USA now and will hurt it more in the future.  Karl Guttenberg is a German temporarily living in the USA, and is one I have wondered about possibly being the final King of the North (see also Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?).

What many Europeans want is that the USA will treat them the same way they treat the Anglo-nations, which have been called the “five eyes”:

The United Kingdom – United States of America Agreement (UKUSA,…is a multilateral agreement for cooperation in signals intelligence between the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The reality is that the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are more trustworthy as far as the USA goes than continental Europe. The five eyes agreement came shortly after World War II and has been in effect since.  So much so, that the NSA excluded that non-USA nations from its surveillance–but Germany, who later had some involvement with the agreement, got spied on more by the NSA than many countries with no direct connection to the UKUSA Agreement (Germany: USA is engaged in ‘cold war’ against us, Europe furious).

Continental Europe wants to be fully admitted into this Five Eyes club.  And while those there do not normally think that they will wish to destroy the USA (cf. Isaiah 10:7), the Bible shows that ultimately a primarily continental European power will (Isaiah 10:5-12; Daniel 11:39).

A federal judge has struck down strict limits on abortion in Texas that were to take effect Tuesday but upheld provisions governing use of pregnancy-ending drugs.

The Bible does not support provisions to remain homosexual (it supports the opposite, see 1 Corinthians 6:8-11), thus the proposal from Senator Reid seems to be a major infringement upon both employer and religious rights.

Abortion is wrong, but now another judge feels that placing restrictions on it infringes on rights.  The more abortions, the more murders.  The rights of the unborn again are unheard by another US government official.

Those who believed that American democracy can be counted on in moral issues hopefully will see that the voting booth is not the answer. The USA needs national repentance, which is not likely, and the return of Jesus Christ, which will happen–but not the way that many who profess Christianity in the USA expect.

The following passage, written nearly two thousand years ago, essentially predicts resurgences of amorality, plus explains why this happens:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man — and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:18-32)

Many do not wish to retain the word of God in their knowledge. Also notice that God warned that many would “also approve of those who practice” various forms of sin. This is what more and more leaders are doing–directly and indirectly.

There were other societies that have had their own issues of openly advocating sins that their residents seemed to view as acceptable. Notice what happened in a couple of such towns between three thousand and four thousand years ago:

24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. (Genesis 19:24-25)

And why did it happen?

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

Why mention this in the 21st century? Because God turned:

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6,
NKJV)

National repentance is the only real long-term hope for the USA (and it seems to be too late for that). The USA will have to experience the “time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7), the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21), before Jesus will return.

Society should not encourage abortion or homosexual ‘rights.’

Keeping the Ten Commandments reflects love. Breaking them and/or condoning those that do is evil. This should be clear to those who believe the God of the Bible.
