Middle East Peace?

The Islamic State claimed another beheading of an American:

September 2, 2014

An Internet video uploaded Tuesday by Islamic State purports to show the beheading of U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff.

A masked figure in the video also issued a threat against a British hostage, a man the group named as David Haines, and warned governments to back off “this evil alliance of America against the Islamic State,” the SITE monitoring service reported. http://www.voanews.com/content/internet-video-purports-to-show-sotloff-beheading/2436145.html

The USA is warning Israel about one of its decision:

September 2, 2014

The U.S. State Department said Tuesday that Israel’s decision to appropriate 4,000 dunams of West Bank land was “deeply concerning” and urged it to “reverse the decision.”  http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/.premium-1.613684

Apparently, the USA believes that Israel’s decision will increase the risk of war with the Palestinians.

Will we ever have peace in the Middle East?

Certainly.

How will it be brought about?

Many have ideas.  And many ideas have been tried.

There were the Camp David Accords were signed by Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin on  September 17, 1978.  They both got the Nobel Peace prize for that, but that did not bring peace to the Middle East, only a reduction of hostilities between Egypt and Israel.  And one that seems to have been maintained by the USA sending billions of dollars to Egypt to keep its part of the accord, as well as billions sent to Israel by the USA.

Late last Summer, when the USA indicated it would bomb Syria because of its alleged use of chemical weapons (see US Senate committee approves military action against Syria), Pope Francis held a vigil to fast and pray to Mary for peace (see Pope Francis’ ‘solution’ to Syrian crisis will not work and Francis prays and fasts to ‘Mary’).  The USA ended up not bombing Syria.

So, did that bring peace?

No.  Instead, because the USA had indicated to its anti-Assad regime allies it would intervene, and then failed to do so, many of the Sunni rebels became disillusioned with the USA.  This helped set the seeds for the dramatic rise of the group now calling itself the Islamic State.  That group has killed and terrorized many in Iraq and Syria.  It has greatly concerned the West, including the UK and USA.  I received an email today that indicated that Pope Francis wants to try to do the same thing this coming weekend.

So, is the solution more bombing of forces part of the Islamic State.  While some in the USA think that will solve the problem, many others, including its President Obama, do not believe it will solve the problem.  Bombing the Islamic State will affect it, but will not bring peace.

US President Obama has stated that the USA cannot bring peace to Iraq.  While that is true, it is also true that the USA intervened under its President George Bush.

The USA bombed Iraq, captured then killed Saddam Hussein, and there is no peace in Iraq.  Destroying the Islamic State leadership will not result in real peace as well.

Late yesterday, the USA bombed terrorist targets in Somalia (see US bombs Somalia). Last week, some Arab nations bombed Libya.

Will we have any peace in the Middle East before Jesus returns?

Yes, but it may take a lot more war and conflict first.  The Bible shows that a temporary deal will bring a type of peace to the Middle East per Daniel 9:27:

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate. (Daniel 9:27)

Notice that this deal will, however, be broken 3 1/2 years after the prince, who becomes the King of the North by Daniel 11:31, breaks it.  Because of passages in Daniel 8:25 and 11:22-23, it is believed that this is a type of peace deal.  The Bible prophecies about various false proclamations of peace (1 Thessalonians 5:3; Ezekiel 13:9-16).

Is the solution to conflict in the Middle East some type of cease-fire agreement that those of Israel and Hamas have sometimes agreed to? No.  While not fighting is a good first step, the reality is that those two sides have differing objectives for the territory that both sides believe will cause future conflict.  A cease-fire is mainly a rest between warring campaigns–not real peace.

However, since many of the ‘cease-fires’ have had times associated with them, they could set a precedent that may lead to the temporary deal in Daniel 9:27 (see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

Many within Islamic believe a type of confederation or caliphate will solve the problems. They believe that this is consistent with Islamic writings and prophecies, as well as history.

Even some in the West seem to be leaning slightly that way. Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has proposed regional cooperation as the solution:

Libya is in civil war, fundamentalist armies are building a self-declared caliphate across Syria and Iraq and Afghanistan’s young democracy is on the verge of paralysis…The concept of order that has underpinned the modern era is in crisis…

The contemporary quest for world order will require a coherent strategy to establish a concept of order within the various regions and to relate these regional orders to one another.  http://online.wsj.com/articles/the-assembly-of-a-new-world-order-1409328075

While cooperation can be a good thing, the type of cooperation he is advocating will result in disaster (Daniel 11:40-43).

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff,  General Martin Dempsey, seems to be endorsing the rise of an Arabic and Turkish confederation:

August 25, 2014

ABOARD A MILITARY AIRCRAFT – U.S. air strikes on Islamic militants in Iraq have blunted their momentum, but defeating them will require a broad regional approach that draws support from Iraq’s neighbors and includes political and diplomatic efforts, the top U.S. military officer said.

The long term strategy for defeating the militants includes having the United States and its allies reach out to Iraq’s neighbors, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Sunday.

“This is not just about us,” Dempsey said.

Such a coalition could “squeeze ISIS from multiple directions in order to initially disrupt it and eventually defeat it,” he said. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/08/25/iraq-needs-neighbors-to-help-defeat-isis-militants/14557355/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&utm_campaign=usatoday-newstopstories

I have been warning for some time that because of ISIS, that the West would likely encourage the formation of the confederation that the Bible refers to as the final King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43).  The King of the South is basically an Arabic and Turkish confederation.  It seems that General Dempsey and Henry Kissinger are doing this.  The Bible shows that this confederation will end in disaster (Daniel 11:40-44; Ezekiel 30:2-8).  Notice a couple of verses that tell that:

7 “They shall be desolate in the midst of the desolate countries,
And her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are laid waste.
8 Then they will know that I am the Lord,
When I have set a fire in Egypt
And all her helpers are destroyed. (Ezekiel 30:7-8)

A confederation or caliphate will not bring peace.

Notice something that is to happen after Jesus returns:

3 Many people shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. (Isaiah 2:3)

Keeping God’s laws properly does lead to peace.

The Bible teaches:

8 The way of peace they have not known,
And there is no justice in their ways;
They have made themselves crooked paths;
Whoever takes that way shall not know peace. (Isaiah 59:8)

Notice that unless people will change there ways, they will not know peace or the way of peace.

Interim steps by governments and leaders will have various affects, but they will not prevent the coming of the Great Tribulation and the destruction of nations such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand (see Will the Anglo-Saxon Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?).

John the Baptist was prophesied to be involved with peace:

79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:79)

John the Baptist taught that soldiers should do violence to no one (Luke 3:14, KJV) and people should turn to Jesus (John 1:29-34).

Most people do not really want to do both.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways;
17 And the way of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:15-18)

Short of worldwide repentance, the ONLY WAY to bring peace to the Middle East and the rest of the world is the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God.

The time of no more war will come:

4 He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.  (Isaiah 2:4)

But humans, apart from submitting entirely to God will not bring peace about, even though they will apparently bring about a temporary multi-year peace in the Middle East–that too will be broken (Daniel 9:27, 11:31).

Humans, apart from God, do not know the way of peace.

US bombs Somalia

Al-Shabaab Flag

COGwriter

The USA dropped bombs in Somalia to go after the leadership of the group called Al-Shabaab:

September 2, 2014

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) – U.S. military forces attacked the extremist al-Shabaab network in Somalia Monday, the Pentagon said, and a witness described ground-shaking explosions in a strike that reportedly targeted the group’s leader.

Al-Shabab had attacked the upscale Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, killing at least 67 people a year ago this month and the U.S. had targeted planners of the bloody assault. There was no immediate comment from al-Shabab and U.S. commanders were waiting to determine the attack’s outcome. http://www.aol.com/article/2014/09/02/u-s-militar

Officials in Somalia say a U.S. drone strike against militant group al-Shabab targeted the group’s leader, Ahmed Abdi Godane.

The officials said Monday’s attack in the Lower Shabelle region was focused on a meeting of senior al-Shabab leaders.  Witnesses said drones fired at least four missiles that destroyed two al-Shabab vehicles.

There has been no confirmation of casualties.

A Pentagon spokesman said only that an operation against al-Shabab had taken place and that the United States is “assessing the results.”

U.S. drone strikes have targeted al-Shabab officials in the past, including one in January that nearly hit Godane.

The United States has offered up to $7 million for information leading to the capture of Godane, who has led al-Shabab since 2007.

The group once controlled large portions of central and southern Somalia, and enforced a strict form of Islamic law, including a ban on music and chopping off the hands of alleged theives.

The al-Qaida-linked militant group has lost territory to African Union and Somali government forces during the past four years, but remains a threat to Somalia’s stability.  http://www.voanews.com/content/us-targets-al-shabab-in-somalia-strike/2435469.html

September 2, 2014

U.S. drones targeted the head of the Islamist insurgent group al-Shabaab in southern Somalia, a regional governor said, as African leaders met in Kenya to discuss ways of dealing with the threat posed by militants.

Ahmed Abdi Godane was among a number of “high-ranking” al-Shabaab officials who were meeting at Dhaytubako, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) southwest of the capital, Mogadishu, when the drones struck late yesterday, Lower Shabelle Governor Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur said in a phone interview today. The Pentagon said in an e-mailed statement that it carried out an operation against al-Shabaab, without providing further details.

“We believe that a large number of senior al-Shabaab officials have been hurt in the attack, but I cannot specifically confirm if Godane was killed,” Mohamed Nur said. “He was among those meeting during the attack.”  http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-09-02/somali-governor-says-al-shabaab-leader-targeted-in-u-dot-s-dot-raid

Al-Shabaab is considered to be a terrorist organization.  In the past it has made various threats against the West, including some specifically against the UK (see Somalian-linked terrorists warn Britain).

The flag that Al-Shabab and the Islamic State use are the same.  The flag itself appears to be related to Islamic prophecy. There are various Islamic views on as Islamic leader, sometimes called the Imam Mahdi rising up (who could be the King of the South of Daniel 11:40-43).  Here is one that suggests he does after Syria has problems:

Traditions have been reported mentioning the signs for the time of the appearance of the Imam who will arise (qa’im), peace be on him, and the events which will take place before his appearance, together with the indications and features of it. Among them are: The Sufyani will come out in revolt; the Hasanid will be killed; the Abbasids will dispute over worldly kingdom; there will be an eclipse of the sun in the middle of the month of Ramadan; there will be an eclipse of the moon at the end of that month in contrast to ordinary happenings; the land will be swallowed up at al-Bayda’; it will be swallowed in the east-it will be swallowed up in the west; the sun will stay still from the time of its decline to the middle of the time for the afternoon prayer; it will rise from the west; a pure soul (nafs zakiyya) will be killed in the outskirts of Kufa with seventy righteous men; a Hashimite will be slaughtered between the corner (of the Ka’ba) and the station of Abraham); the wall of the mosque of Kufa will be destroyed; black standards will advance from Khurasan; al-Yamani will come out in revolt; al-Maghribi will appear in Egypt and take possession of it from Syria; the Turk will occupy the region of al-Jazira; the Byzantines will occupy Ramla; the star will appear in the east giving light just like the moon gives light; then (the new moon) will bend until its two tips almost meet; a colour will appear in the sky and spread to its horizons; a fire will appear for a long time in the east remaining in the air for three or seven days; the Arabs will throw off the reins and take possession of their land, throwing out the foreign authority; the people of Egypt will kill their ruler and destroy Syria; and three standards will dispute over it (Syria)…

The Abbasids will dispute; a voice will call from the sky; one of the villages of Syria called al-Jabiyya will be swallowed up; the Turks will occupy the region of al-Jazira; the Byzantines will attack al-Ramla; at that time there will be much conflict throughout the land until Syria is destroyed.

But, it should be noted that another Islamic view somewhat differs with this as it states that Damascus will be the Mahdi’s capital (other Islamists have stated that Jerusalem will be the capital):

Mahdi will be very just and his capital will be Damascus. (Who Is Imam al-Mahdi? http://www.islamicweb.com/history/mahdi.htm viewed 07/02/14)

A flag is considered to be a ‘standard.’  Merriam-Webster defines a standard to include: “an organization flag carried by a mounted or motorized military unit.”  The black flag that the Islamic State, Al-Shabaab, and some of the other Jihadists use certainly would seem to qualify here.  It is very likely that is probably part of the reason why they use a black flag.

Those using that flag basically believe that they will fight militarily until an Islamic empire is established.  The USA, UK, and others are opposed to that.

Yet, it appears that the USA and others in the West are getting closer to accepting the idea that some type of regional confederation of Islamic nations is what should come after USA bombings (see US Military Chairman scales down threat from Islamic State and seems to be advocating the rise of the King of the South and Kissinger tells of New World Order, Cameron concerned about ISIS terrorism, while Obama tells of ‘no strategy’ related to bombing Islamic State raises some concerns).  Bombing will not bring true peace (watch also the new video Middle East Peace? When?) nor will an Islamic confederation.

Some of what groups like Al-Shabab want will come to pass per Daniel 11:40-43 and Ezekiel 30:2-8, but it will not end up well according to those same passages of scripture.

Is Rick Warren a closet Catholic?

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014

Rick Warren (All About You God)

COGwriter

Is evangelical Pastor Rick Warren a ‘closet Catholic’?  The front page of the PTG September newsletter by Mike Grendon has the following:

Is Rick Warren a Closet Catholic?

The Eternal Word Television Network, a Catholic station conducted an interview with Rick Warren that reveals how much he embraces the Roman Catholic religion and his push for ecumenical unity.

During the interview, Warren praises all the Catholic mystics and the Pope over and over again. At the 24:20 mark, Warren says “he watches EWTN more than any Christian channel.” He said if you don’t understand the roots of your faith you’re like a tumbleweed. One of his favorite shows on EWTN is “Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.” After a stressful day, he comes home and watches it with his wife Kay. He said “I sit back, relax and worship.” He said one episode was a Catholic prayer service in front of the Monstrance.

About the 25:30 mark, the interviewer says he was struck by three images in Warren’s office – Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King and Billy Graham. Warren said the only one missing was Pope John Paul “because those four people were the greatest influences on the 20th century” and he has tried to learn lessons from each of them.

EWTN is a Roman Catholic television network.

Whether or not he is a ‘closet Catholic,’ Rick Warren is not the only evangelical to be embracing ecumenical unity with the Church of Rome.  Joel Osteen (see In Vatican City: New Babylon more openly forming!), Ken Copeland (watch Charismatic Kenneth Copeland and Anglican Tony Palmer: Protestants Beware!), and other Protestant leaders have embraced the movement as have various mainstream Protestant denominations.

Mike Grendon also reported the following:

The leaders of the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches (CEEC) articulated their vision for what they say is “organic unity, not corporate unity” among Christians worldwide that is based on the Nicene Creed and the Great Commission. “We want to try to emulate what Christ left the world,” said David Scott the General Secretary for the CEEC International House of Bishops. This convergence or unity movement received a dramatic boost when one of its bishops, met with Pope Francis to record his greeting to a group of American evangelical leaders.

Mike Grendon also reported the following about Billy Graham’s group:

Roman Catholic Bishop David Zubik of the archdiocese of Pittsburg gave the opening prayer at Franklin Graham’s Three Rivers Festival of Hope on Aug. 15th at the Consol Energy Center. During the bishop’s prayer he implied Protestants and Catholics are all part of the same church. This type of ecumenical unity with the apostate Roman Catholic Church is a continuation of the unbiblical practice his dad started in the 1960’s. Catholics who responded to Graham’s invitation to make a decision for Christ were given the opportunity to go to Epiphany Church – a Catholic Church, across the street from the festival, for the sacrament of reconciliation.

Billy Graham, himself,  made a deal with the Church of Rome years ago (for some details, check out Beware: Protestants Going Towards Ecumenical Destruction!), and now that there is less ecumenical resistance among Protestants, apparently his group has come out more publicly in support.

The ecumenical movement is moving forward and many Protestants are supportive.  This will not turn out well (see Beware: Protestants Going Towards Ecumenical Destruction!).

Many do not realize that it is only AFTER Jesus returns that the true unity of faith can and will come per Zechariah 2:12-16, Ephesians 4:13, and Revelation 11:15-18.

Jesus did not come to bring worldwide unity in this age:

51 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. (Luke 12:51)

The Bible shows that a false ecumenical unity will come (Revelation 13:4-8).

Notice also:

6 “Up, up! Flee from the land of the north,” says the Lord; “for I have spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,” says the Lord. 7 “Up, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.” (Zechariah 2:6-7)

Notice that even true believers are warned to get away from this.

While the true Christian faith will continue (Matthew 16:18), Protestantism as most understand it is doomed. Please, if you are Protestant, believe what the Bible actually teaches, turn to God, and resist the coming, more powerful, ecumenical appeals which will deceive all but the very elect (Matthew 24:24).

Notice also the following:

10 “Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord. 11 “Many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. 12 And the Lord will take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem. 13 Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for He is aroused from His holy habitation!” (Zechariah 2:10-13)

It is after Babylon falls and Jesus returns that true Christian unity will occur (Zechariah 2:10-11). Do not be deceived by the Babylonian ecumenical movement. The Bible warns that nearly all on the earth in the final end times will be deceived (2 Thessalonian 2:9-12). Have the ‘love of the truth’ so that you will not fall for this.

What many Protestant leaders are encouraging is the rise of the Babylonian power that the Bible warns against in many places, such as the 17th and 18th chapter of the Book of Revelation.

Yellowstone Supervolcano Eruption Would be Devastating For U.S.

The USA is at risk should the supervolcano at Yellowstone erupt:

September 1, 2014

Yellowstone Supervolcano Eruption Would be Devastating For U.S.

If the Yellowstone supervolcano erupted, at least a meter of ash would cover parts of the Rocky Mountain range and a few millimeters of ash would reach cities on both coasts of the U.S., according to new estimates based on computer simulations on the event…
The Ash3D model simulated Yellowstone’s eruption and the study, “Modeling Ash Fall Distribution From a Yellowstone Supereruption,” was published in the Wiley Online Library.

Larry Mastin, lead author of the study and US Geological Survey hydrologist, said he helped develop the Ash3D model, said that there has been a recent rise in demand for models projecting the density of the ash driven by a ground-collapsing eruption from the Yellowstone volcano. …

Once they simulated a modern-day Yellowstone eruption, researchers were able to determine that a Yellowstone caldera eruption would release an “umbrella” of ash that would spread from the center of the US and cover both coasts.

“In essence, the eruption makes its own winds that can overcome the prevailing westerlies, which normally dominate weather patterns in the United States,” said Mastin. “This helps explain the distribution from large Yellowstone eruptions of the past, where considerable amounts of ash reached the west coast.”

The effects of the supervolcano’s ash cloud would have a significant impact on every part of the U.S. The whole continent would suffer drastic change, according to Mastin.

“Electronic communications and air transportation would likely be shut down throughout North America,” said the study. “There would also be major climate effects. Emission of sulfur aerosols during the 1991 Pinatubo eruption produced global cooling by an average of 1 degrees Celsius for a few years, while the 50 km 3 Tambora eruption of 1815 cooled the planet enough to produce the famed ‘year without a summer’ in 1816, during which snow fell in June in eastern North America and crop failures led to the worst famine of the 19th century.” http://www.autoworldnews.com/articles/8822/20140901/yellowstone-supervolcano-eruption-would-be-devastating-for-u-s.htm

Notice that the USA is at risk of not only climate-related issues, but also electronic communications. This could be devastating for the USA and probably also Canada.  The USA itself has over 100 volcanoes, though not all are considered to be active.

As I recently warned, volcanoes pose more risks than many believe and it is likely that the supervolcano at Yellowstone will likely someday erupt and cause massive problems (see Iceland’s subglacial volcano erupting; any risk from Yellowstone?).

Of course, it is not just North America that could be affected by supervolcanoes.

There are volcanoes in many parts of the world and nearly all can cause major problems.

Iceland has had issues with ones there (see Iceland’s subglacial volcano erupting; any risk from Yellowstone? and Iceland’s Volcano Closes Airports Across Europe). There is also Chile’s Quizapu volcano, Pompey in Italy (see Pompeii movie released; observations about why Pompeii may have been destroyed), Mt. Etna in Sicily, the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes in Alaska, many in the Hawaiian Islands, Mt. Tongariro in New Zealand (see Drought Pressuring Chicken Price in Australia, Britain, and USA; NZ Volcano Eruption), several in the Philippines (see Volcanic Earthquakes in the Philippines and Philippine Volcano Erupts and Thousands Flee), various ones in Indonesia (see Japan’s Earthquake Seemingly Triggers Indonesia Volcanic Explosion, plus a Nuclear Plant Explosion), some in Ecuador, Guatemala (see Volcanos in Guatemala and Ecuador, Earthquake Risk on USA East) & El Salvador (see Volcano erupting in Indonesia after one did so in El Salvador), as well as other parts of the world.

At present, there are about 600 volcanoes that have had known eruptions during recorded history, while about 50-70 volcanoes are active (erupting) each year. At any given time, there is an average of about 20 volcanoes that are erupting. (How many volcanoes are there in the world? http://www.volcanodiscovery.com/volcanoes/faq/how_many_volcanoes.html viewed 09/01/14)

Jesus warned about a time earthquakes and troubles:

8 … And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be…troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

A supervolcanic eruption such as one at Yellowstone could cause major “troubles.”

VOA: Obama Faces a Chaotic World and the Limits of Power

Voice of America reported the following:

Obama Faces a Chaotic World and the Limits of Power

Two months before midterm congressional elections that will have a huge impact on the last two years of his tenure, President Barack Obama faces dueling foreign policy crises that pose a leadership test both at home and abroad.

The growing threat from Islamic State militants in the Middle East and Russia’s latest military move into Ukraine have brought into clear focus the challenges for the United States in an age where Washington policy makers are acutely mindful of the U.S. public’s waning appetite for overseas military engagements.

President Obama’s acknowledgement that the U.S. doesn’t “have a strategy yet” with regard to containing Islamic militants in Iraq and Syria suggests the administration wants to take some time to explore its options both militarily and diplomatically before reaching any decisions on whether to expand the U.S. air campaign into Syria. As the president said, “Syria is not simply a military issue, it’s also a political issue.”

Obama’s comment drew some immediate fire from some of his Republican critics. Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Republican Mike Rogers of Michigan, said the president’s comment “confirmed what we have been talking about really for almost two years.  There has been no real strategy.” …

President Obama’s overall public approval ratings remain low—just above 40 percent in most national polls—and that usually spells trouble for the president’s party in a midterm contest. But the public so far seems supportive of air attacks on Islamic State militants in Iraq, also known as ISIL, and the recent beheading of American journalist James Foley seems to have galvanized U.S. public opposition to the group.

But lingering public wariness of U.S. ground troops engaging in overseas conflicts in the wake of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq means the president must still confront the limits of U.S. military power in the context of what the American public is willing to support in any given crisis. It is far easier to build public support for limited, successful drone and air attacks than a more open-ended military commitment that could involve ground troops.

Foreign policy issues usually don’t become critical factors in midterm elections. But given recent events in Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Israel and Gaza, the Obama administration’s overall foreign policy approach has come under fire from congressional Republicans and is being highlighted by some Republican candidates for the House and Senate. President Obama has been getting some negative public approval ratings on his handling of foreign policy and that, combined with continuing apprehension about the economy, have driven his overall ratings to some of the lowest points of his presidency. Some analysts believe that a firmer hand against Islamic State militants in both Iraq and Syria could help alter public perceptions about the president’s management of foreign policy, an area where he was given solid marks in previous years.  http://www.voanews.com/content/column-faces-chaotic-world-and-limits-of-power/2432432.html

The above article did not cover what has happened related to Europe and Germany, nor how any of that will tie in with prophecy (a video on that would be 10 Steps Obama Has Taken Leading to the Rise of the Beast).  Much of the above article went into how this would affect the mid-term elections in November 2014, but that is relatively minor compared to the real issues that are at stake–the long-term existence of the USA.

Here is some information related to political criticism of his foreign policy:

September 1, 2014

The leaders of the House and Senate intelligence committees criticized President Obama on Sunday for failing to decide yet on whether to hit Islamic State targets in Syria and urged him ahead of this week’s key NATO summit to take decisive action before the militant group attacks on U.S. soil.

“His foreign policy is in absolute free fall,” Michigan GOP Rep. Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, told Fox News Sunday.”

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chairwoman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, said in a separate interview that Obama is perhaps “too cautious” in his approach to combating Islamic State.

“This is a group of people who are extraordinarily dangerous,” she said on NBC’s Meet the Press.” And they’ll kill with abandon.”  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/09/01/hill-intelligence-panel-leaders-urge-obama-to-develop-is-syria-strategy-ahead/

There is bipartisan concerns that the situation with the Islamic State is not being properly handled by the Obama Administration.  While peace will come in the Middle East (watch Middle East Peace? When?) many have concerns.

The focus of much of the mainstream media has been on Barack Obama’s handling of foreign policy related to the Middle East, Asia, and Ukraine this year, while not realizing how this is truly affecting Europe or how any of this possibly aligns with Bible prophecy.

For one example, which I would call it appeasement, last month the USA placed a German general in charge of the US Army in Europe (see German general now commands the US Army in Europe). This appointment of a German general was a very dangerous step for the USA, yet seems consistent prophecies in Daniel 11:39 and Revelation 13:4.

It is not that the Middle East does not have impact on prophecy–it does (see Iraq, the King of the South, Armageddon, and Prophecy).  It is just that the foreign policy situation is much worse than many realize.

The USA media seems to have a detachment from the risk that Germany and Europe pose to the USA.  Of course, that is no surprise as the USA media seems to overlook history and disdains a lot of biblical prophecy.

But you do not need to be in that situation, as the Apostle Paul wrote:

4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. (1 Thessalonians 5:4-7)

As Jesus said, ‘Watch’ (Mark 13:38).

Should YOU keep the Fall Holy Days?

Blowing of a Shofar

COGwriter

The Continuing Church of God has a sermon about the Fall Holy Days which is at its ContinuingCOG channel.

The ‘Fall’ Holy Days come every year in September and/or October on the Roman calendar. Some call them Jewish holidays, but they were kept by Jesus, the apostles, and their early faithful followers. Should you keep them? What does the Bible teach? What do records of church history teach? What does the Bible teach about the Feasts of Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles, and the Last Great Day?

Those of us faithful in the Continuing Church of God who are able, keep the Feast of Tabernacles and believe that it foreshadows the coming millennium.

Notice also that the Catholic, Orthodox, and Church of God Saint Polycarp of Smyrna kept the Fall Holy Days:

I will give the narration in order, thus coming down to the history of the blessed Polycarp…

So also he pursued the reading of the Scriptures from childhood to old age, himself reading in church; and he recommended it to others, saying that the reading of the law and the prophets was the forerunner of grace, preparing and making straight the ways of the Lord, that is the hearts, which are like tablets whereon certain harsh beliefs and conceptions that were written before perfect knowledge came, are through the inculcation of the Old Testament, and the correct interpretation following thereupon, first smoothed and levelled, that, when the Holy Spirit comes as a pen, the grace and joy of the voice of the Gospel and of the doctrine of the immortal and heavenly Christ may be inscribed on them. And he said that they could not otherwise receive the impression of the seal which is given by baptism and engrave and exhibit the form conveyed in it, unless the wax were first softened and filled the deep parts. So also he thought that the hearts of the hearers ought to be softened and yield to the impress of the Word. For he said that it unfolded and opened, like closed doors, the minds of recent comers; and accordingly the prophet was bidden by God, Cry out mightily and spare not, Raise thy voice as a trumpet. What must one say, when even He that was gentler than all men so appeals and cries out at the feast of Tabernacles? For it is written; And on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any man thirsteth, let him come to Me and drink. (Pionius, Life of Polycarp (1889) from J. B. Lightfoot, The Apostolic Fathers, vol. 3.2, pp.488-506.)

Polycarp, according to the above, seems to have endorsed the Fall Holy Day season which begins with the Feast of Trumpets, includes the Feast of Tabernacles, and ends on The Last Great Day. And while the Day of Atonement was not specifically mentioned above, it was mentioned in the Book of Acts, where it is referred to as the Fast (Acts 27:9).

During the Middle Ages the fall holidays were observed, though records are limited.

Notice the following report:

Under the name of Passagini, we have the clearest sort of statement that these people, about 1200, observed the whole Old Testament law, including the Sabbath and FESTIVALS! People called Cathars at Cologne, Germany, kept a fall festival, called “Malilosa”, even before Waldo began to preach. Compare this unexplained name with Hebrew “melilah” (a harvested ear of grain — Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance) and the Biblical title “Feast of Ingathering” (Ex. 23:16). How much more we might have known about these Middle Ages’ Feasts of Tabernacles had not the Inquisitors so zealously burned the records! The three-part division of tithes paid the Waldensian Church is significant. Even in the 1500′s the same division continued. “The money given us by the people is carried to the aforesaid general council, and is delivered in the presence of all, and there it is received by the most ancients (the elders), and part thereof is given to those that are wayfaring men, according to their necessities, and part unto the poor” (George Morel, Waldensian elder, quoted by Lennard, “History of the Waldenses”). 1. Compare this practice with Num. 18:21 and Deut. 14:22-25, 28-29. Isn’t it exactly what the Bible commands?… Most authors have ASSUMED the “wayfaring men” were the traveling “barbel.” But THEIR expenses would have been paid from the money given the elders, at EVERY time of year, for the direct conduct of the Work — “first” tithe and offerings. Notice that in Numbers 18:21. What Morel then mentions is a “second” tithe, for those traveling to and from the festivals — wayfaring men; and following it, the “third” to the poor. See the explanation in Deut. 14. Feast goers who had more “second tithe” than they needed shared their excess with those who had need, even as they do today! (LESSON 51 (1968) AMBASSADOR COLLEGE BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place …” Rev. 12:6).

Furthermore, Sabbath-keepers in Transylvania in the 1500s and probably later kept the Fall Holy Days such as the Day of Atonement and the Feast of Trumpets (called Day of Remembrance below):

The Sabbatarians viewed themselves as converted Gentiles..They held to the biblical holidays…The Day of Atonement was a day of fasting, although they emphasized that pentinence is more easily acheived by a peaceful and quiet meditation on the law and one’s life than by fasting. The Day of Remembrance (New Year, which they celebrated in the Fall of the year) was the day on which they thanked God especially for the creation of the universe. There is no mention of circumcision, so it is unlikely that they practiced circumcision (Liechty D. Sabbatarianism in the Sixteenth Century. Andrews University Press, Berrien Springs (MI), 1993, pp. 61-62).

And the Fall Holidays are still observed into the 21sth century by many Sabbath-keeping Church of God groups, such as the Continuing Church of God.

The biblical Holy Days (both Spring and Fall) were kept by early, faithful Christians, and this is clear from both scripture and early church records. And there is a scattering of later records showing that they have been kept by some professors of Christ throughout history.

The first Holy Day this Fall season is the Feast of Trumpets (called Rosh Hashanah by the Jews) which begins September 24th, 2014 at sunset until sunset September 25th.

The second Holy Day this Fall season is the Day of Atonement (called Yom Kippur by the Jews) which begin October 3rd, 2013 at sunset until sunset October 4th.

The seven day Feast of Tabernacles begins at sunset October 8th, continues until sunset October 15th, and is immediately followed by the Last Great Day, which ends October 16th, 2014 at sunset. Most people travel to attend the Feast of Tabernacles (here is a link to CCOG’s Feast of Tabernacles’ Sites for 2014). This has limited information on many Feast of Tabernacles locations for this Fall feast.)

Then, other than the weekly Sabbaths, after the Last Great Day there are no Holy Days until Passover in the Spring.

The early, faithful, Christians kept what many now refer to as “Jewish” holidays. Jesus, Paul, and the apostles did. They were part of “the faith once for all delivered unto the saints” (Jude 4).

Perhaps you should look into them more?
