Could much about what certain Protestants teach about the return of Jesus be wrong?

‘The Rapture of One in the Field’ etching

COGwriter

Are Protestants who believe in a pre-tribulation rapture wrong? They are according to another Protestant, Joel Richardson. Notice the following from him:

Is everything you know about Second Coming wrong?

Filmmaker, evangelist and renowned bible prophecy teacher Joel Richardson says it is a time of change for the church, especially when it comes to teachings about the End Times and the rapture. The author of the New York Times bestseller “The Islamic Antichrist” recently appeared with Joe Schimmel on Rick Wiles’s TruNews radio program to discuss the what he believes is the false doctrine of a pre-tribulation rapture.

Wiles himself supports the pre-tribulation position, stating, “I personally do not believe that by the year 2020, any credible person will be teaching the secret pre-trib rapture doctrine. I think the events that are coming in the next five years will utterly destroy the doctrine.”

The pre-tribulation school of thought has been an important force in American Christianity for decades, with proponents such as Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye and Thomas Ice. This school holds believers will be raptured before the great tribulation during the End Times, thus avoiding it. In contrast, Richardson believes the rapture will not occur until during the tribulation period. Thus, believing Christians will not be spared the persecution and calamities of the End Times. http://www.wnd.com/2015/08/is-everything-you-know-about-second-coming-wrong/#RkMvkBqFXqsI4wzt.99

Joel Richardson is right that the Bible does not teach a pre-tribulation rapture. Whether or not any still teaching that can be called a ‘credible person’ can be debated, but the arguments in favor of it are simply biblically disprovable.

Pre-tribulation “rapture” proponents essentially teach that certain verses that refer to Christ returning cannot be referring to the same return (they teach He comes twice, years apart), hence they believe that theirs is the only biblically defensible position. Notice the following from ‘Left Behind’ authors Dr. LaHaye and J. Jenkins:

There are far too many conflicting activities connected with His return to be merged into a single coming…

Since we know there are no contradictions in the Word of God, our Lord must be telling us something here (LaHaye T, Jenkins J. Are We Living in the End Times? Tyndale House, Wheaton (IL), 1999, pp. 98.100).

Between the two statements above is a page listing 24 scriptural passages that the book indicates supports the pre-tribulation rapture and 22 supporting the second coming. However, the passages are not actually quoted, just listed.

To show that those supposed “pre-tribulation rapture” scriptures are NOT in conflict with a single return, I have all of them in an article titled Is There A Secret Rapture for the Church? When and Where is the Church Protected?

The first few of which are in this post. Dr. LaHaye and J. Jenkins listed John 14:1-3 as a “Rapture Passage.” It states:

1 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

The above passage simply states that Jesus has a place for His followers, that He will return, and that His followers will be with Him. This has no discussion of when.

The next listed “Rapture Passage” was Romans 8:19:

19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

The above does not mention any rapture and is not in conflict with occurring at the Second Coming.

The next listed “Rapture Passage” was 1 Corinthians 1:7-8:

7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Again, the since the Second Coming occurs after the Great Tribulation, the passages above do not prove a pre-tribulation rapture.

The next listed “Rapture Passage” was 1 Corinthians 15:51-53:

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed– 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Again, the above does not prove a pre-tribulation rapture and is not in conflict with being associated with the Second Coming.

Now, while Joel Richardson is correct about the fact that the pre-tribulation rapture theory is wrong, his book about the Islamic Antichrist is also wrong.

Years ago, someone forwarded me the following that Joel Richardson wrote:

EU collapse: Doom for popular Bible prophesies?
WND – May 30, 2010
By Joel Richardson [author of “The Islamic Antichrist“.]

Nearly 20 years ago, I intently watched as a very popular Christian television prophecy teacher declared, “The present formation of the European Union is literally the fulfillment of Bible prophecy right before our eyes!”

According to this teacher, the creation of the European Union represented a biblically prophesied revived Roman Empire. Because the last-days empire of the Antichrist, as described in the books of Daniel and Revelation, is portrayed as a 10-nation alliance, this teacher confidently declared that when the number of EU member states reached 10, this would signal the imminent return of Jesus Christ.

Soon, the number of EU member states reached the magic number 10, just as this teacher had predicted. Then the number reached 11, and then 12. Soon there were 20. Today there are 27 member states. The teacher’s very confident predictions failed. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=160393

There are many problems with the above. But the one to mention here is that the Bible does not say that the Beast power will only have ten nations. Notice what the Bible actually states:

12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

The above prophecy is clear that the Beast power will be composed of ten kings who did not previously have a specific kingdom. Or in other words, the prophecy in Revelation 17:12-13 is most certainly not teaching that the Beast power will be composed of ten nations in the form that they existed prior to some type of structural reorganization. The fact that some prophecy “experts” may have indicated otherwise does not in fact change the actual prophecy from the Bible (see also Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).

Joel Richardson also wrote:

Since 1993, with the official formation of the European Union, many prophecy teachers have set their prophetic imagination like flint on Europe, confident that someday soon, the EU would invade the Nation of Israel and actually dominate the whole earth.

Surely we are witnessing the emergence of the restored Roman Empire that will ultimately come to be controlled by the Antichrist himself, they would declare. But the present harsh realities in Europe may soon cause all of this Euro-centric, restored Roman Empire prognosticating to come crashing down…

As the world watches, the European Union seems to be teetering ever closer toward the brink of collapse with its massive debt crisis. Member nations are fighting to prop up the euro and maintain European unity through, you guessed it, a mega-billion dollar bailout. Meanwhile, Greece’s economic failure continues to metastasize across its borders. Numerous headlines across the globe are asking if the EU can survive.

However, it is precisely because there will be problems in Europe that it will need a powerful leader to rise up and lead it. The Bible is clear that the union in the Beast’s territories will be “fragile” (Daniel 2:42-43). It also is clear that the Beast leader will be successful from a military perspective (Revelation 13:1-4). While the Bible does tell of a power from currently Islamic nations in North Africa and the Middle East, it also shows that the forces that support the final Antichrist will defeat it (Daniel 11:40-43).

He later wrote more things about an Islamic Antichrist that were wrong (watch Mystery Babylon USA, Mecca, or Rome?).

For more details about why Joel Richardson is wrong about THE Antichrist, etc., check out the article Can the Final Antichrist be Islamic? (there is also a related sermon online titled: Is the Final Antichrist Islamic or European?)

So why bother to post about any of this?

Because there are many false and heretical leaders that lead people astray on biblical prophecy (see also Why Be Concerned About False and Heretical Leaders?). And it is not just Protestant-type rapturists or those who misunderstand about Islam and Bible prophecy.

The Sardis and Laodicean Church of God groups do not understand prophecy, the work, enough of the truth, etc., and that is part of why they will have to go through the Great Tribulation. CG7, a group believed to represent Sardis, takes a preterist view that basically most end time prophecies were fulfilled long ago and are for the past. The Laodiceans have so many prophetic misunderstandings, that unless they repent and change (Revelation 3), they will not possibly know when the Great Tribulation will start until it is too late (a listing of 30 prophetic errors that are held by Laodicean groups are included in the article The Laodicean Church Era).

Now, getting to a major part of the subject of this post, it needs to be understood that the Bible does not teach a pre-tribulation rapture of the church nor a mid-tribulation one as Joel Richardson seems to advocate. Notice that the Bible shows that Jesus will return AFTER the tribulation, not before it:

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matthew 24:29-31)

Yet, the pre- and mid-tribulation rapturists ignore or try to reason around these scriptures. More details, including some of the scriptures they tend to claim support their view, are documented in the article Is There A Secret Rapture for the Church? When and Where is the Church Protected?.

Many fail to realize that the Bible teaches that Jesus promised to protect ONLY the Philadelphian Christians from the ‘hour of trial’ (Revelation 3:7-10), the rest of the Christians will go through the Great Tribulation and Day of the Lord (Revelation 12:17), and the place where the Philadelphians are protected is in the wilderness (Revelation 12:14-16). Heaven is not a wilderness and Christians are not going to be there during the Great Tribulation as the rapturists teach.

The next pope—potentially terrifying? Does the Bible point to that?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025

COGwriter

Several have concerns about the one who will be the last, or perhaps the next, pope:

1000-year-old prophecy predicts the next pope but has terrifying warning for humanity

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday after suffering from ill health for a long period

22 April 2025

A supposed prophecy meant to be close to being millennium-old claims to predict the next pope and has a chilling warning for humanity. …

there’s a book known as the Prophecy of the Popes, which was claimed to have been written in the 1100s by an Irish chap called Saint Malachy, or just Malachy to his friends, as he was made a saint several decades after his death.

His alleged prophecy claims to list 112 popes, and we’ve almost entirely run through the list with just a reference to ‘Peter the Roman’ left and some prophetic doomsaying to follow.

The final entry says the last pope will be: “Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.”

So that’s Rome getting destroyed and what sounds like the end of the world, and some interpretations of the Prophecy of the Popes reckon it tips the world to end in 2027 which is not far off. https://www.ladbible.com/news/world-news/pope-francis-death-next-catholic-church-leader-rules-298345-20250421

While the next pope may or may not be terrifying, the end will NOT come in 2027.

Now, initially, the world will NOT think the final pope is terrifying.

Why?

Here is what the Bible prophesies about him:

11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13 He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. 14 And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. (Revelation 13:11-14)

So, many will see this leader as like a lamb–like Jesus–but he will not be.

Related to the Malachy list and the end supposedly coming in 2027, we put out the following video:

14:44

Malachy Prophecy, Francis, Doom in 2027?

Do you know who Malachy was? He was an Irish bishop and saint of the Roman Catholic church who put together a list about 900 years ago. This list has been a source of amazement and interest for centuries and at the same time it has also been a source of ridicule. Recently his list has been making headlines; the publication, Euronews has an article citing “Malachy’s List” and doom in 2027. The reason Malachy’s List is once again front-page news is because of what the list contains, as well as because of health concerns related to Pope Francis. It contains a prophecy of the number of popes until Jesus returns as well as a description of the characteristics of each pope. So, why does this matter? How many popes are on the list? What about the reign of the last pope? Are there any similarities between Malachy’s description of the last pope on his list and the prophecies in the Bible? Does the Antichrist fit in to Malachy’s list? Is it possible that Malachy’s list actually predicts the final judgment and the return of Christ in 2027? These questions are fascinating and provocative. Let Dr. Thiel shine the light of Bible prophecy on the answers to these questions. Answers from the verses of the Bible that bring prophecy to life.

Here is a link to our video: Malachy Prophecy, Francis, Doom in 2027?

The old Worldwide Church of God wrote the following related to the Malachy prophesies:

For your interest (or for whatever else it may be worth), an old Irish Catholic prophecy of the 12th Century predicts that there will be 265 popes before “the end of the world.” Pope John Paul I is number 263. The last, pope, according to this prophecy of “Malachy,” an old Irish bishop, is to take the name “Peter the Roman.” Time will have to judge the prophecy’s accuracy. (Hogberg G. A LOOK AT THE NEW ROMAN PONTIFF. Pastor General’s Report. August 29, 1978)

Gene Hogberg was off slightly. There were to be 266 pontiffs, not supposedly 265. And the Malachy list has 112 on it–the others were prior to that list.

Technically, Pope Francis was 112 on that list–however, 1) it has long been held that there could be pontiffs between 111 and the final one and 2) because Benedict XVI was alive when Francis was voted in, some say he did not count.

Regarding the next pope matter, Michael Snyder posted the following:

What Should We Make Of The Rampant Speculation That The Next Pope Could Be The Last Pope?

The death of Pope Francis has created a firestorm of speculation about the next pope.  There is no clear frontrunner, and all sorts of names are being thrown around.  Many liberal Catholics are hoping for another liberal pope that will be able to continue the legacy of Francis, while many conservative Catholics are desperate for a conservative pope that will move the Vatican in a very different direction.  Meanwhile, a controversial document that was discovered in the Vatican archives in the sixteenth century known as “the Prophecy of the Popes” is getting a ton of attention on social media.  Many are suggesting that the pope that will soon be elected will actually be the last pope before the return of Christ. …

Francis publicly declared that all religions “are paths to God” during a visit to Singapore…

“All religions are paths to God. I will use an analogy, they are like different languages that express the divine,” Francis said during a September trip to Singapore. “But God is for everyone, and therefore, we are all God’s children.”

Francis broke with traditional Catholic teaching in many other areas as well. …

There are many that are speculating that one of the three candidates named “Peter” will win because that would fit “the Prophecy of the Popes”.

“The Prophecy of the Popes” was supposedly written by St. Malachy in the twelfth century, and it was supposedly “discovered” in the Vatican archives in the sixteenth century by a Benedictine monk named Arnold Wion

The “Prophecy of the Popes” (Latin: Prophetia Sancti Malachiae Archiepiscopi, de Summis Pontificibus) was discovered in 1590 by Benedictine monk Arnold Wion and is kept in the Vatican Secret Archives. This work describes 112 cryptic mottos in Latin, each relating to succeeding popes, starting with Celestine II.

This list supposedly describes all of the popes that will reign until the return of Christ. …

What we do know is that we really are living in the end times, and so it is entirely possible that the next pope could be the last pope. 04/21/25 https://endoftheamericandream.com/what-should-we-make-of-the-rampant-speculation-that-the-next-pope-could-be-the-last-pope/

Here is something from my book The Last Pope: Do Biblical and Catholic Prophecies Point to Pope Francis? Amazon Book:

The Bible Identifies that the Antichrist Will Perform Signs and Lying Wonders

In the final end times, the Bible shows that there will be signs and lying wonders.  These signs will be performed by the False Prophet and some may also appear to be performed by the Beast of the Sea of Revelation 13:1-9 (cf. Daniel 8:24).

Notice some passages that many theologians (Catholic or otherwise) believe are related to the final Antichrist:

8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thessalonians 2:8-12)

15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.  (Revelation 13:11-17)

If Pope Francis I does not perform signs and wonders and never calls fire down from heaven, then he is not the final Antichrist and would not be the last Pontifex Maximus.

Could Francis’ successor be the last pope?

If he ends up doing various signs and lying wonders, yes. If not, no.

And if he does, yes, he will be terrifying.

The final pontiff will support the coming European Beast. He will be the two-horned beast of Revelation 13:

That will be terrifying as terror will be one of the weapons of the last pope.

Earth Day 2025

Unofficial Earth Day Flag

COGwriter

April 22nd is known as “Earth Day.”

Here is a little about the history of Earth Day:

By the late 1960s, air and water pollution had already achieved serious environmental damage in the USA. Acid rain damaged forests, smog plagued cities, and suburban sprawl in its own paved-over way extended urban blight. Yet little appropriate national legislation existed. There was no Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Clean Water Act, or Endangered Species Act. Land, rivers, and people — whether in city or countryside — were all dumped on.

In 1969 that changed as two events grabbed the headlines: California’s pristine coast at Santa Barbara played host to a massive oil spill and Cleveland’s Cuyahoga River caught on fire. US Senator Gaylord Nelson, known from previous public service as Wisconsin’s “Conservation Governor,” flew back from Santa Barbara with an idea and on 22 April 1970, the first Earth Day was celebrated by 20 million Americans across the nation.

Earth Day quickly went global. By the 30th anniversary in 2000, people in 184 countries were holding Earth Day celebrations. That year the focus was clean energy. A decade later, the 40th anniversary saw attention shift to climate change…

What was, on that first Earth Day, full-blown confidence that industrial-technological civilization and 3.7 billion people could right itself has in 2013 become a troubled doubt that global consumerism for the nearly doubled population—7 billion—can. http://blog.oup.com/2013/04/history-earth-day/

There are several scriptures that would seem to be appropriate for “Earth Day.” Here is one to look at:

15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it (Genesis 2:15).

The concept of tending and keeping a garden suggests proper environmental stewardship.

Notice, however, the following:

18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,
And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy those who destroy the earth (Revelation 11:18).

Thus, God is not pleased when humans abuse the environment.

Here is information on it related to 2025:

The theme for Earth Day 2025 is Our Power, Our Planet, inviting everyone around the globe to unite behind renewable energy, and to triple the global generation of clean electricity by 2030. https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2025/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoJC-BhCSARIsAPhdfSiCaSNMsml44M8C5Ef0YH5D_mLfoxXon4mGh3EyD16kcI0j5EkVIx4aArLXEALw_wcB

This looks like a plan to try to hook up with the United Nations’ goals for 2030.

Related to pollution, the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) put out the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

14:03

At the Basel Convention, 187 nations, other than the USA agreed to a UN backed deal on plastic pollution. The USA was also called ‘a rogue nation’ for backing out of the Paris Climate Accords. Will Europeans turn against the USA? In late May 2019, the journal Scientific Reports estimated that there were 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the oceans–more pieces than stars in the Milky Way. The United Nations has made estimates that as many as one million plant and animal species are in danger of going extinct, mainly due to human caused issues. Is there a solution? Does the world know what it is? What about the role of sin? Since Jesus will return, how should Christians handle environmental issues such as trash and litter? How will this all get resolved? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more.

Here is a link to that video: Will Pollution lead to the End?

Many around the world have paid at least some lip service to reduction of pollution–particularly in the past several years.

Back in 2015, Pope Francis released his encyclical titled Laudato Si. This was well received in the international community and was consistent with the ‘New Universal Agenda’‘ Pope Francis endorsed, that was adopted by the United Nations in September of 2015 then later adopted in Paris.

On September 7, 2016, Olav Fykse Tveit, Church of Norway Pastor, and the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, essentially declared that those who ignore ‘climate change’ are committing the ‘unpardonable sin’ against the Holy Spirit.

While Christians should try to properly tend and keep the earth, certain of the Vatican’s, WCC’s, and the United Nations’ plans go beyond that to include changes to society and governmental controls that look to lead to the rise of the Beast power that the Bible warns against. The World Economic Forum has also been pushing a similar (and often unbiblical) agenda.

Now, the Bible shows how to resolve climate change:

3 ‘If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them,
4 then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
5 Your threshing shall last till the time of vintage, and the vintage shall last till the time of sowing;
you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
6 I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid;
I will rid the land of evil beasts,
and the sword will not go through your land. (Leviticus 26:3-6)

Yes, there is a biblical solution to climate change, but COP27 and the associated religious ceremony have overlooked that.

But, people will heed God and His ways during the millennial Kingdom of God.

Until the arrival of that Kingdom, all human beings should strive to obey God while being careful about waste and pollution. And all should also pray for God’s kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10).

COP 27 and Solving Climate Change

The dates for the United Nations Climate Change meeting called COP 27 are November 6th through 18th, 2022. During that time, on November 13, 2022, a ‘Chrislam’ type group composed of leaders from the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, and other faiths associated with the Interfaith Center for Sustainable Development and the Elijah Interfaith Institute are making what they titled ‘A Prophetic Call for Climate Justice’ and are having a ‘Ceremony of Repentance’ on what is referred to as Mount Sinai, in Egypt. Do this sound Gaia, mother goddess worship? Are Christians supposed to have religious ceremonies with pagans? What did the Apostle Paul write? What did Jesus say would happen to the earth? Are humans, apart from God, going to solve climate problems before Jesus returns? Is there any type of false gospel associated with aspects of the climate change movement? Would obeying God solve the issues of pollution and climate change? What about the good news, the gospel of the Kingdom of God? Does the Bible have the solution to pollution? Does the Bible have the answer to solving climate change? Dr Thiel and Steve Dupuie discuss these issues.

Here is a link to our video: COP 27 and Solving Climate Change.

The Bible does reveal that there is a solution to pollution and ‘climate change.’

As Christians, we should be stewards of the earth and strive not to unnecessarily pollute or contribute to earth’s deterioration.

That being said, it will take the Kingdom of God, not the international environmental movement, to solve the major problems associated with polluting the earth.

UK working with Artificial Intelligence to identify people before they commit crimes–idea reminiscient of ‘Minority Report’

Monday, April 21st, 2025

COGwriter

While the totalitarian Beast power that will arise will come from Europe, the UK and USA have been taking totalitarian steps that Europe is also using to some degree.

Notice the following related to the UK:

Minority Report: Predictive Algorithms Will Be Used to Identify Potential Criminals.

The British Ministry of Justice is advancing in its initiative to create an algorithmic tool aimed at predicting which individuals convicted of crimes might escalate to committing homicide. Known internally as the Homicide Prediction Project, the undertaking emerged through Freedom of Information requests from the civil liberties group Statewatch, which flagged the project as concerning.

Expanding on risk-prediction systems already in place, the project is designed to build upon frameworks such as the Offender Assessment System (OASys), ..

Statewatch has raised ethical concerns about the predictive model’s potential for systemic bias. …

Statewatch’s Sofia Lyall described the algorithm project as “chilling and dystopian,” calling for an immediate cessation of its development. “Time and again, research shows that algorithmic systems for ‘predicting’ crime are inherently flawed,” he said. She highlighted the risk algorithms pose in creating profiles of potential criminals before any crime is committed. https://thenationalpulse.com/2025/04/14/minority-report-predictive-algorithms-will-be-used-to-identify-potential-criminals/

Yes, it is chilling and dystopian and reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984 novel.

Consider the following from a county in Iowa last year:

February 2, 2024

Most gas stations and convenience stores in DeKalb still do not comply with the county’s video surveillance requirements that went into effect last year, but they will now have more time to get right with a law meant to reduce crime.

A total of 213 businesses are subject to the ordinance, which requires the stores to install and maintain high-quality video surveillance systems covering entrances and exits, cash registers, all gas pumps and any loading docks. Stores must also install cameras in parking lots. …

As of Jan. 24, only 69 stores were in compliance, county spokesman Quinn Hudson said.

In a letter to noncompliant businesses last month, the county extended the deadline to July 1. Those not in compliance by then will be subject to citation and license revocation.

DeKalb County hired six additional code enforcement officers to enforce the new regulations. …

Of the 213 stores, the county’s records show 16 have closed. It’s unclear if the closures were related to requirements. https://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta-news/dekalb-gas-stations-get-more-time-to-comply-with-video-surveillance-law/HF3LEYFETZDKTLZRRXQLZLACSU/

Apparently, most of the business targeted by that ordinance do not think they need to have surveillance cameras–but the government intends to force them to anyway.

Other cities across the USA (as well as in Europe, China, and many other lands) are installing more and more surveillance cameras.

The government wants to monitor more than just your movement, they also want to monitor what you have said. Notice the following:

THE FOURTH AMENDMENT

Now the feds are buying our emails!

Latest NSA scheme ‘has truly reached a new unconstitutional low’

By Andrew Napolitano
Published February 1, 2024 at 7:27pm

“The Framers … conferred, as against the Government, the right to be let alone – the most comprehensive of rights, and the right most valued by civilized men.” – Justice Louis Brandeis (1856-1941)

While we are all consumed with Joe Biden’s bumblings and Donald Trump’s trials, the federal government’s rapacious appetite for spying on the private behavior of Americans as to whom it has no suspicion of wrongdoing continues unabated. Last week, Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., revealed that the National Security Agency has been buying huge caches of Americans’ text messages and emails from Big Tech, and the FBI has been using this data to predict crime. Both of these undertakings are profoundly unconstitutional. …

The purpose of the Fourth Amendment was to prevent the government from utilizing general warrants by requiring instead judicially authorized search warrants issued under narrow circumstances, and to restrict government privacy invasions to prosecuting crimes that had already been committed. James Madison, who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, shared the hatred that the colonists-turned-Americans had for unrestrained government. …

Madison’s language in the Fourth Amendment preserving privacy but permitting the government to invade it only upon a showing, under oath, of probable cause of crime, and then requiring the warrant to specify in writing the place to be searched or the person or thing to be seized. General warrants were used to predict crime and revolutionary behavior. The Fourth Amendment outlawed invasions of privacy for such governmental predictions.

After 9/11, in the collective spirit of fear, timidity and subservience to the presidency, and in utter disregard for its members’ oaths to uphold the Constitution, Congress enacted the Patriot Act. It permits one federal agent to authorize another federal agent to search and seize whatever the latter wishes to look at and capture so long as it is in the possession of third-party financial institutions.

Over the years, the definition of “financial institution” has been radically expanded by both legislation and presidential orders so as to include nearly every conceivable entity that has any records about any person in America – from banks to hospitals to lawyers to merchants to credit card issuers to telecoms and computer service providers and even the post office. https://www.wnd.com/2024/02/now-feds-buying-emails/

Innocent until proven guilty or presumed guilty until proven innocent?

Notice something else related to the fourth amendment to the US Constitution:

Amendment Four to the Constitution was ratified on December 15, 1791. It protects the American people from unreasonable searches and seizures. The official text is written as such:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

At the time of its creation, the Fourth Amendment was made in response to increasing infringements on privacy in both the colonies and in England. In England, “general warrants” authorized royal officials to pursue and search the belongings of a person without any cause other than the perceived suspicion that they were political enemies. Meanwhile in the colonies, “writs of assistance” authorized officials to track down and conduct warrantless searches for untaxed items. Both the “general warrants” and “writs of assistance” were challenged in court, but only the former was considered to be a violation of the law. A key element of the Fourth Amendment was that every search or seizure of an individual’s home and property was to be authorized by a judge beforehand, and that the entire operation had to be on the grounds of “probable cause.” https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/constitutional-amendments-amendment-4-right-privacyaccessed 02/02/24

Yes, the USA and others are looking at electronic communications in order to categorize and go after various ones who have political, religious, and other views various ones in government oppose.

We have also seen various steps in Canada (see NewsPunch: Canada Unveils Orwellian “Pre-Crime” Hate Speech Bill – “If You Think It, We’ll Arrest You”) and Europe (see EU, USA, and WEF moving towards making thoughts a crime?).

Long ago, my wife and I saw the 2002 movie ‘Minority Report.’ In it, government agents would arrest people for crimes that the government said they would commit in the future. Here is some information about it:

Minority Report is a 2002 American neo-noir science fiction action film[5] directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Tom Cruise, and loosely based on the 1956 short story “The Minority Report” by Philip K. Dick. The picture is set primarily in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia in the year 2054, where PreCrime, a specialized police department, apprehends criminals based on foreknowledge provided by psychics called “precogs“. (Wikipedia, retrieved 05/22/21)

We are getting closer to that type of thing in many parts of the world–but instead of ‘precogs” being used, police profiles, internal espionage, electronic surveillance, use of ‘political’ & religious words, and ‘artificial intelligence ‘ are getting involved.

Now consider something else that the Bill of Rights in the US Constitution states:

6th Amendment

These rights are given to all men or women under trial for any sort of wrongdoing. They establish the “innocent until proven guilty” mantra that is present in the United States legal system.

Yet on this point, the USA has been changing. Federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Internal Revenue Service long ago put the burden of proof of innocence on the accused–despite the 6th amendment.

Notice the following from 2021 from John Whitehead:

Total Tyranny: We’ll All Be Targeted Under the Government’s New Precrime Program

May 19, 2021

“There is now the capacity to make tyranny total in America.”― James Bamford …

In the same week that the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously declared that police cannot carry out warrantless home invasions in order to seize guns under the pretext of their “community caretaking” duties, the Biden Administration announced its plans for a “precrime” crime prevention agency.

Talk about taking one step forward and two steps back.

Precrime, straight out of the realm of dystopian science fiction movies such as Minority Report, aims to prevent crimes before they happen by combining widespread surveillance, behavior prediction technologies, data mining, precognitive technology, and neighborhood and family snitch programs to enable police to capture would-be criminals before they can do any damage.

This particular precrime division will fall under the Department of Homeland Security, …

The intent, of course, is for the government to be all-seeing, all-knowing and all-powerful in its preemptive efforts to combat domestic extremism. …

In the blink of an eye, ordinary Americans will find themselves labeled domestic extremists for engaging in lawful behavior that triggers the government’s precrime sensors.

Of course, it’s an elaborate setup: we’ll all be targets.

In such a suspect society, the burden of proof is reversed so that guilt is assumed and innocence must be proven.

It’s the American police state’s take on the dystopian terrors foreshadowed by George Orwell, Aldous Huxley and Phillip K. Dick all rolled up into one oppressive pre-crime and pre-thought crime package.

What’s more, the technocrats who run the surveillance state don’t even have to break a sweat while monitoring what you say, what you read, what you write, where you go, how much you spend, whom you support, and with whom you communicate.

Computers now do the tedious work of trolling social media, the internet, text messages and phone calls for potentially anti-government remarks, all of which is carefully recorded, documented, and stored to be used against you someday at a time and place of the government’s choosing.

In this way, with the help of automated eyes and ears, a growing arsenal of high-tech software, hardware and techniques, government propaganda urging Americans to turn into spies and snitches, as well as social media and behavior sensing software, government agents are spinning a sticky spider-web of threat assessments, behavioral sensing warnings, flagged “words,” and “suspicious” activity reports aimed at snaring potential enemies of the state. …

The following activities are guaranteed to get you censored, surveilled, eventually placed on a government watch list, possibly detained and potentially killed.

Use harmless trigger words like cloud, pork and pirates: The Department of Homeland Security has an expansive list of keywords and phrases it uses to monitor social networking sites and online media for signs of terrorist or other threats. While you’ll definitely send up an alert for using phrases such as dirty bomb, Jihad and Agro terror, you’re just as likely to get flagged for surveillance if you reference the terms SWAT, lockdown, police, cloud, food poisoning, pork, flu, Subway, smart, delays, cancelled, la familia, pirates, hurricane, forest fire, storm, flood, help, ice, snow, worm, warning or social media.

Use a cell phone: Simply by using a cell phone, you make yourself an easy target for government agents—… Mention any of the so-called “trigger” words in a conversation or text message, and you’ll get flagged for sure.

Drive a car: Unless you’ve got an old junkyard heap without any of the gadgets and gizmos that are so attractive to today’s car buyers (GPS, satellite radio, electrical everything, smart systems, etc.), driving a car today is like wearing a homing device: you’ll be tracked from the moment you open that car door thanks to black box recorders and vehicle-to-vehicle communications systems …. https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/total_tyranny_well_all_be_targeted_under_the_governments_new_precrime_program

Many governments and various courts have been pushing in that direction.

Furthermore, 666 control and Orwellian suppression of the truth are coming. I have warned for over a decade that internet censorship looked to be a factor.

As far as control and loss of freedom to spread the truth goes, notice these scriptures:

15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:15-18)

11 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God,
“That I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of the Lord.
12 They shall wander from sea to sea,
And from north to east;
They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord,
But shall not find it. (Amos 8:11-12)

A totalitarian system will be put in place. Internet companies are making it easier for this to occur.

Shadow-banning and deplatforming of religious materials has been taking place.

Yet, it will get even worse.

However, Matthew 24:14 will be fulfilled BEFORE the full ‘famine of the word’ happens. That is part of the reason we have had our English language booklet, Gospel of the Kingdom of God, translated into over 1000 languages (see Preaching the Gospel in Over 1500 Languages)–and we continue to receive about 3 additional translations every single day.

Note the Bible shows that after the Gospel of the Kingdom of God has sufficiently reached the world, the end comes and the Beast will rise up (Matthew 24:14-22, Revelation 13) and more totalitarian controls will be put in place.

Censorship and government interference with religion are increasing.

Notice the following from the Bible:

1 Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation;
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows — bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
They say, “Who will see them?”
6 They devise iniquities:
“We have perfected a shrewd scheme.”
Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep. (Psalm 64:1-6)

9 Keep me from the snares they have laid for me,
And from the traps of the workers of iniquity.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
While I escape safely. (Psalm 141:9-10)

You might think that if you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear from the snares of surveillance. Consider that unless you are a Philadelphian Christian or will not take the mark of the beast or the number of his name, you will be considered an enemy and will be subject to persecution from the Beast power. There is no other reliable ‘escape’–even living off the grid is not going to be safe (cf. Amos 3:9-14; Lamentations 4:19; see also Physical Preparation Scriptures for Christians).

Further consider that many in the governments of the West consider that those not supporting homosexual marriages, transgender matters, etc. are extremist. If you accept that the Bible teaches that homosexuals can change (1 Corinthians 6:9-11), that is something certain so-called “fact checkers” disagree with. Let me add that I also saw someone once on a documentary that stated that people who believed in the millennium could not be trusted and should be considered as potential terrorists. The fact that we in the Continuing Church of God would be considered pacifists, does not change the fact that, since we hold to millennial and other biblical views, we can be improperly classified as extremist by government employees with various agendas. Having biblical views are becoming more problematic in the world (see ZH: Germany has killed freedom of speech and expects the rest of the EU to do the same).

While the Europeans and North Americans decry internet and speech restrictions in various countries in Asia, Africa, and elsewhere, they are also implementing more surveillance and more restrictions themselves.

The Bible says to:

1 Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins. (Isaiah 58:1)

And that warning includes telling of sins and prophecies that discuss punishment. We have been doing that.

Yet, the Bible also warns:

13 Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, For it is an evil time. (Amos 5:13)

More speech restrictions, censorship, and persecutions are coming (cf. Revelation 13).

It is sad that the West keeps taking steps in that direction.

Related to some Orwellian moves in Europe, the Continuing Church of God put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel discussing various views and scriptures about that:

14:40

Is Germany Becoming Orwell’s 1984?

In his novel 1984 George Orwell described a totalitarian government that controlled all aspects of human existence. “Big Brother is Watching You” was the reality of this government. George Orwell introduced “Newspeak”, a language that was designed to limit the range of thought. He also defined his concept of “Doublethink”, which is the ability to hold two contradictory beliefs at once and, yet accept both as reality. Pope Francis dead: Could the next pope be the last one?

Monday, April 21st, 2025

COGwriter

Vatican News reported:

Pope Francis has died on Easter Monday aged 88

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.

By Devin Watkins

At 9:45 AM, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, announced the death of Pope Francis from the Casa Santa Marta with these words:

“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God.”

The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, told journalists later on Monday that the late Pope’s body could be transferred to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday morning, so that the faithful may pray before his mortal remains.

“The translation of the Holy Father’s mortal remains to the Vatican Basilica, for the veneration of all the faithful, may take place on the morning of Wednesday, April 23, 2025, according to the arrangements that shall be determined and communicated tomorrow, following the first Congregation of the Cardinals,” Mr. Bruni said. https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2025-04/pope-francis-dies-on-easter-monday-aged-88.html

Throughout his pontificate many considered him to be antipope (see 12 years later, Pope Francis still acts like an antipope).

Most of the Roman Catholics I spoke with during his pontificate had issues with him and considered him to be questionable because of his teachings, political moves, and doctrines.

Could his successor be the last pope?

Well, if he ends up doing various signs and lying wonders, yes. If not, no.

There is a list of pontiffs that an Irish bishop named Malachy put together in the 12th century. Over a decade ago, I bought a copy of the book shown above related to the Malachy predictions of 112 future popes.

Though various Roman Catholics believe that the list was divinely inspired, and this also seems to have been the position of the Protestant prophetic writer Hal Lindsey, many (including this author) do not believe that the list was from God. Many make light of the list for a variety of reasons.

Even the expression “malarkey” seems to have originated as a derivative of the word Malachy, possibly because of how some viewed Malachy’s writings. Malarkey signifies worthlessness.

Yet, his list has been remarkably accurate–though one has to include a few “antipopes” for it to work.

I have long believed that the list was demonically-inspired–hence I do not rely on it.

Interestingly, Euronews published the following about it last month:

900-year-old Vatican doomsday prophecy resurfaces amid Pope Francis’ illness

According to a 900-year-old book in the Vatican, ‘Judgement Day’ may be upon us soon, and Pope Francis might be the last leader of the Church.

The health of Pope Francis has led to renewed interest in a 900-year-old book known as “The Prophecy of the Popes” (“Prophetia Sancti Malachiae Archiepiscopi, de Summis Pontificibus” – or “Prophecy of Saint-Archbishop Malachy, concerning the Supreme Pontiffs”), which claims to predict the year of Judgement Day.

For those of you who need brushing up on your scripture, Judgement Day – also known as “The Final Judgement” or “the second coming of Jesus Christ” – is the day that Jesus returns to Earth to judge humanity and destroy Earth and Heaven. …

According to the 12th-century book credited to Irish bishop Saint Malachy, it’s going to take place in 2027.  …

The book contains a series of Latin phrases in 112 mysterious sections which purport to predict the Catholic popes, beginning with Celestine II up to the Church’s current leader.

One passage, attributed to Pope Sixtus V, reads: “Axle in the midst of a sign”.

Pope Sixtus’ tenure began 442 years after the first Pope’s rule, and the passage suggests he is in the ‘middle’ of the papal lineage – thus indicating the end of the world would come 442 years later, in 2027.

The last passage of the book reads: “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed, and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.”

The “seven-hilled city” refers to Rome and some interpret the last passage as Peter taking over as the Pope from Francis due to the latter’s chronic lung disease, making Francis the last Pope. https://www.euronews.com/culture/2025/03/14/900-year-old-vatican-doomsday-prophecy-resurfaces-amid-pope-francis-illness

First, let me state that because of signs Jesus said to look for in the 24th chapter of the Book of Matthew, we can be sure that the end will NOT come in 2027 as that is much too soon. However, the last pope could be in place that year.

Second, the idea that the year Pope Sixtus V began as pontiff is not necessarily relevant in the Malachy list. Nor is the number of years to get to 2027 necessarily relevant.

That said, while Pope Francis could be considered as number 112 on the Malachy list as he followed number 111, who was Benedict XVI. Yet, because Benedict XVI was alive when Francis became the Roman Catholic pontiff, some have said that Francis does not count, hence there is another pontiff to come after Francis that will count.

Of course, many Roman Catholics believed that Francis is the legitimate successor of Benedict.

On the Malachy list, the pope after the one believed to be Benedict XVI is listed as the last one.

Now there are several similarities between the prophecy of Bishop Malachy related to the last pope and statements in the chapter 17 of the Book of Revelation (also known as the Apocalypse).

Let us look at the entire prediction of the final pope by Bishop Malachy as reported in The Catholic Encyclopedia:

“In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.”

Now let us notice that the Bible warns about something happening in the end time that is consistent with parts of the Malachy prophecy.

1 And there came one of the seven angels, who had the seven vials, and spoke with me, saying: Come, I will shew thee the condemnation of the great harlot, who sitteth upon many waters, 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication; and they who inhabit the earth, have been made drunk with the whine of her whoredom.

3 And he took me away in spirit into the desert. And I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.  4 And the woman was clothed round about with purple and scarlet, and gilt with gold, and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand, full of the abomination and filthiness of her fornication.  5 And on her forehead a name was written: A mystery; Babylon the great, the mother of the fornications, and the abominations of the earth.  6 And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And I wondered, when I had seen her, with great admiration.

7 And the angel said to me: Why dost thou wonder? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast which carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.  8 The beast, which thou sawest, was, and is not, and shall come up out of the bottomless pit, and go into destruction: and the inhabitants on the earth (whose names are not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world) shall wonder, seeing the beast that was, and is not.

9 And here is the understanding that hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, upon which the woman sitteth, and they are seven kings:  10 Five are fallen, one is, and the other is not yet come: and when he is come, he must remain a short time.  11 And the beast which was, and is not: the same also is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into destruction.

12 And the ten horns which thou sawest, are ten kings, who have not yet received a kingdom, but shall receive power as kings one hour after the beast. 13 These have one design: and their strength and power they shall deliver to the beast.  14 These shall fight with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, because he is Lord of lords, and King of kings, and they that are with him are called, and elect, and faithful.

15 And he said to me: The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and nations, and tongues.  16 And the ten horns which thou sawest in the beast: these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her with fire.  17 For God hath given into their hearts to do that which pleaseth him: that they give their kingdom to the beast, till the words of God be fulfilled.

18 And the woman which thou sawest, is the great city, which hath kingdom over the kings of the earth.  (Revelation 17:1-18, DRB)

In both Malachy’s list and the Book of Revelation we see:

  1. Reference to the city of seven hills/mountains.
  2. The destruction of the city of seven hills/mountains.
  3. The end of a power in Rome.
  4. Persecution.
  5. Troubles/tribulations on the earth.
  6. A type of judgment.
  7. Events for the end time.

The persecution that the Bible tells of is of the truly faithful (Revelation 17:6 and seemingly others per 17:16-17). And the judgment that the Bible shows will happen, will also come from God (Revelation 17:1,14; cf. 6:10; 18:10).

While Malachy himself seemed to indicate that his list included all the future popes, it should be noted that decades ago, Peter Bander (author of the book shown at the beginning of this post) wrote that Malachy’s list could allow that there would be other popes, not on the list, prior to the last one. Roman Catholic writers have long written that there could be other popes between Gloria olivæ (number 111) and the last one:

Some medieval interpreters have gone out of their way to stress that Malachy in his prophecies does not specifically mention that no Popes reign between Gloria Olivae and the last Petrus Romanus; nor on the other hand does he mention that there will be others. (Bander P. The Prophecies of St. Malachy. Originally written in 1969. TAN Books reprint, Rockford (IL), 1973)

It has been noticed concerning Petrus Romanus, who according to St. Malachy’s list is to be the last pope, that the prophecy does not say that no popes will intervene between him and his predecessor designated Gloria olivæ. It merely says that he is to be the last, so that we may suppose as many popes as we please before “Peter the Roman”.(Devine, Arthur. “Prophecy.” The Catholic Encyclopedia. Vol. 12. Nihil Obstat. June 1, 1911. Remy Lafort, S.T.D., Censor. Imprimatur. +John Cardinal Farley, Archbishop of New York. New York: Robert Appleton Company, 1911

So, the above does give the Malachy list supporters “wiggle room” for there to be a pope after Francis.

Notice also:

Priest Gaudentius Rossi (19th century): According to St. Malachy, then, only ten, or at most eleven, popes remain to be in future more or less legitimately elected. We say more or less legitimately elected, because out of those future popes it is to be feared that one or two will be unlawfully elected as anti-popes.(Rossi, Gaudentius. The Christian Trumpet: Or, Previsions and Predictions about Impending General Calamities, the Universal Triumph of the Church, the Coming of the Anti-Christ, the Last Judgment, and the End of the World; Divided Into Three Parts, 4th edition. Patrick Donahoe, 1875. Original from Oxford University. Digitized Sep 1, 2006, p. 203)

There have not been any recognized “antipopes” since Felix V’s time in 1439-1449.  Thus, if Priest Rossi’s understanding on those points is correct, it would seem then that the last pope on Malachy’s list would be an anti-pope as there are no others left on the Malachy list. The Bible tells of the final Antichrist (1 John 2:18, 4:1-3), who would also be the false prophet that Revelation 16:13 warns against.

Jesus warned that “many false prophets would arise and deceive many” (Matthew 24:11).

The Apostle Paul warns that “Satan” tries to “take advantage of us,” yet Christians “are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11).

So, despite certain accuracy of the Malachy list, we need to be on guard that we are not deceived that the list is from God or that those on the list are God’s represents on the earth.

It seems that the False Prophet (like most other Roman Catholic bishops have) may claim (based more on tradition than fact) that there was an unbroken succession of bishops in Rome from Peter onwards, that there have been bishops of Rome from the 2nd through 21st centuries (which is essentially true, though some were in France), and that since Malachy’s list has somewhat accurately predicted every pope since the middle of the 12th century (which is not quite true as the list includes what Roman Catholics would consider to be false or “antipopes” without indicating that most of them would be false), that therefore the final changed Roman Catholic Church is the one true Christian faith (and although none should believe that, though many will).

(To see an alternative succession list, check out the free e-book: Beliefs of the Original Catholic Church: Could a remnant group have continuing apostolic succession?)

Furthermore, Satan very well could have influenced the voting for Francis to add at least one extra pontiff between numbers 111 and 112 on the list.

The one that is the last pope on the Malachy list seems to be warned against in the Holy Bible.

The ecumenical, inter-faith, and economic agenda of Pope Francis was consistent with him being an antipope. However, Pope Francis DID NOT HAVE the type of signs and wonders that would point to him being the False Prophet of Revelation 13:11-15 and 16:13.

Notice the following Roman Catholic prophecies:

Bl. Anna-Maria Taigi (19th Century) … St. Peter and St. Paul, having come down from Heaven, will preach in the whole world and designate a new Pope. A great light will flash from their bodies and will settle upon the cardinal who is to become Pope. Christianity, then, will spread throughout the world. He is the Holy Pontiff, chosen by God to withstand the stormAt the end, he will have the gift of miracles, and his name shall be praised over the whole earth (Birch DA. Trial, Tribulation & Triumph: Before During and After Antichrist. Queenship Publishing Company, Goleta (CA), 1996, pp. 362-363).

Abbott Joachim (died 1202): A man of remarkable sanctity will be his successor in the Pontifical chair.  Through him God will work so many prodigies that all men shall revere him. (Connor Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, pp. 31-33)

Prodigies means miraculous signs a wonders. The pontiff sounds like the one warned against in the Book of Revelation. Since we did not see such from Francis, he clearly was not fulfilling Roman Catholic prophecy as the last pope.

Furthermore, consider that some believe that Francis may not have been the legitimate successor of Benedict. So, if Francis was not counted in the Malachy list, the one who comes after him may be.

If so, he looks prophesied by Roman Catholics to be an antipope, and the one we in the CCOG would suspect may be the final biblical antichrist.

We will see.

But the end WILL NOT be in 2027.

Malachy Prophecy, Francis, Doom in 2027?

Do you know who Malachy was? He was an Irish bishop and saint of the Rome Catholic church who put together a list about 900 years ago.

Dr. Crandall: The Healing Power of Prayer

Numerous research studies and anecdotal stories have shown the power that prayer can have in our lives and for our health.

Dr. Chauncey Crandall, world-renowned cardiologist and director of preventive medicine at the Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Florida, has observed the power that prayer can have on health firsthand.

“When I was at Yale University and I rounded on the wards of the hospital, I found something that just really amazed me,” Crandall tells Newsmax’s “Newsline.” “The people that were being prayed for seemed to get well faster than those that weren’t,” he observed. …

A recent review of 32 studies, published in the International Journal of Depression and Anxiety, came to the same conclusion. In nearly every one of the studies, religion in general, and religious training, spirituality, faith, prayer and a religious community were associated with reduced anxiety. The effects were observed in healthy adults and those with cancer, cardiovascular disease or other illnesses.

And another study performed over 20 years ago on 1,000 cardiac patients in a hospital in Kansas City found that those who were prayed for daily for four weeks (without them knowing it) fared better, with fewer complications, such as pneumonia, chest pains, infections or death, than those who were not prayed for. https://www.newsmax.com/health/health-news/prayer-health-anxiety/2025/04/18/id/1207451/

God hears prayers, and answers them—sometimes quickly in ways we understand and sometimes in ways that we do not.

Prayer is not just about asking God to give us things or to think God should be pleased because we address Him.

Here is  some of the information in our free ebook Prayer: What Does the Bible Teach? 28 tips on improving the effectiveness of your prayers:

What is prayer?

Prayer is simply talking to God.  It can be out-loud, though it is often silent.  Prayer is an important part in the worship of the Great Creator.

Prayer gives us an opportunity to express love towards others, explain our circumstances, and give thanks to God for the many blessings we are given.

We have an opportunity in prayer to ask God for help, for guidance, for strength, and to support His work.

Prayer is the completion of a two-way conversation between God and humans. God speaks to people through His Word, and people speak to Him through prayer.

When you pray, understand that this is not really doing God a favor.  Believe it or not many people think that God should be grateful that we will try to talk to Him.  Should it not be the other way around?

When you pray don’t you realize you are speaking to the most perfect and powerful being in the universe?  Which of you should be honored by that?

In this busy 21st century, in our busy lives, it can seem that there is never enough time to do all the things we want or need to do. When there is not enough time to go around, what do even some Christians neglect?

Prayer.

As never before, as we see the end approaching (Hebrews 10:2425; Luke 21:34-36), true Christians should be drawing near to God in prayer. Yet some true Christians have confessed that they have not prayed for days, weeks, or even months.

We are not to wait long to talk to God, but should:

6 Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. (Isaiah 55:6, NKJV throughout, except where otherwise noted)

Also, don’t you want to support the work of God as we get closer to Jesus’ return (cf. Matthew 6:33; 24:14)? While that work ultimately involves the entire universe, God’s work in this age includes HIS people.

Which means, that while many feel that they could better serve

God if He answered their prayers a certain way, the reality is that YOU and your spiritual state are more important than you probably think. God may not answer prayers the way people want Him to, because God wants to help perfect His people more than probably most realize. Do your part, God will do His.

Notice what followers of Jesus have been told:

48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. (Romans 8:2830)

If you believe that ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THOSE THAT LOVE GOD, TO THOSE WHO ARE CALLED

ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE, then presuming you love God and were called, whatever God does in response to your prayers means that He has answered them in a way that HE KNOWS is best for you. He wants to help perfect you now (Psalm 138:8).

On the other hand, it should also be understood that many seem to believe that God’s work is primarily about helping themselves physically in this age.  This is a distortion of reality.  This wrong belief is often the result of unrecognized selfishness and listening to ministers that promote it (cf. 2 Peter 2:1-3).  God’s work is MORE than just you or how you feel.

But getting back to prayer, can it change anything?

Certainly.

Throughout history, people have utilized prayer. Prayers and intercessions by Moses, Joshua, Ezekiel, and others have been shown to change outcomes.

Yet also throughout history, God’s people have also had questions about how to pray.  This booklet provides 28 tips about prayer to keep in mind that can lead to the type of answers that most should really want.

Tip Number 1: Pray to God the Father

Jesus’ disciples wondered about how to pray.  Notice:

  • Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
  • So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. (Luke 11:1-2)

We see here that we should normally direct our prayers to God the Father.  We must first acknowledge the greatness of our heavenly Father. Our faith increases when we realize that what He has promised He can and will perform! He is the God of Heaven — the Ruler of the whole universe.  It is His name, His authority, that is to be hallowed—to be considered holy.

Even in Old Testament times, David realized that he should pray to God the Father:

10 … David said:

“Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. 11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all. 12 Both riches and honor come from You, And You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great And to give strength to all.

13 “Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name. (1 Chronicles 29:10-13)

Do you glorify the majesty, the power, and the wisdom of God in prayer like David did?

David realized that God was the Father, God was great, and that  His name should be praised.  There are several concepts in David’s prayer that Jesus shared with His disciples when they asked Him how to pray.

Jesus personally prayed to the Father:

2At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. (Matthew 11:25-26)

41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:41-42)

We should follow His example (cf. John 13:15; 1 Peter 2:21).

Tip Number 2: Worship God in Truth

Many people do not understand who or what God is.  Because of that they often do not pray to the true God of the Bible.

Because of the ‘progress’ of the interfaith and ecumenical approaches to religion, many think that praying to some vague ‘spirit being’ or to an idol of a Hindu deity is the same as praying to the true God of the Bible.  But that is not the case.

Notice something that the Apostle Paul taught:

6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. (1 Corinthians 8:6)

Notice what Jesus Himself taught:

23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:23-24)

Many think that it does not matter what or how they worship, only that they make some attempt.  That is not what Jesus said that the Father wants.

Jesus also taught:

8 “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15:8-9)

People may pray out loud or silently, but notice that they can be worshiping God in vain if they are following the imaginations of their own mind or ‘traditions’ of human beings which are contrary to God’s ways. Intentionally praying to the east (Ezekiel 8:16) and certain holidays that many who claim Christianity observe, do not come from the Bible, but from compromises with pagan “traditions of men” (see also our booklet Should You Observe God’s Holy Days or Demonic Holidays?).

Since Jesus warned that one can worship God in vain and that the Father seeks those who will worship Him in truth, those who want to truly worship God and receive answers to their prayers should not rationalize away disobedience to Him and His ways.

Notice something that Jesus prayed:

1 Father, the hour has come… 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. (John 17:1, 16-19)

Jesus also taught:

4 It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ (Matthew 4:4)

The world compromises with the truth and does not adequately believe that the word of God is truth.  While many pay lip-service to the idea of believing the Bible, most accept ‘traditions of men’ that the Bible does not condone above truly living by every word of God.

However, it is not that God never hears the prayers of those that do not really know Him, but if one truly intends to worship God, they should worship the true God.

Even if you do not believe that you are worshiping God in vain, consider examining your own life (Galatians 6:3-4) as there are probably areas in it that are not true to God.  Do not overlook this tip as it also specifically applies to true Christians in these end times (cf. Revelation 3:1-22).

Tip Number 3: Believe God

The Bible warns that there are those who do not really believe God, and because of that, they do not get their prayers answered.

Notice:

  • If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5-8)
  • But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Jesus taught that those who pray need to have faith in God:

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.  (Mark 11:22-24)

You need to believe that God will answer you.  If it is God’s will, yes, the prayers of the truly faithful can move mountains.  The time will come when this likely will literally happen. Where does faith come from?  The Bible says that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). (For more on faith, check out our free booklet Faith for Those God has Called and Chosen.)  Study and believe God’s word.

While God is aware of all prayers, some prayers God listens to.

Notice whose prayers God listens to:

2 Says the Lord. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word. (Isaiah 66:2)

Tremble at His word—do you really believe the Bible over false traditions of human beings?

In the Bible, God declares:

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:89)

Do you really believe that?  While that can seem to be hard to accept at times, the reality is that God “inhabits eternity” (Isaiah 57:5) and knows so much more than any of us possibly can.  That is part of why it is good, wise, and right to submit to His will.

Jesus said:

46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? (Luke 6:46)

Are you humble enough that you will believe God over your own opinions and feelings?  All the time?

Really? …

Tip Number 8: Pray for Others

Pray for others.

The word pray/prayed in the Old Testament comes from the Hebrew word transliterated as palal (paw-lal’) to entreat, intercede, pray, make supplication.  The first time it is used in the Bible (NKJV) was when Abraham was to pray for someone else (Genesis 20:7,17).

Many people really do not want to pray for others, but that lack of effort on their part is wrong.  Many want others to pray for them, but tend not to pray for many others.

Samuel said it would be a sin for him not to pray for others:

23 Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; (1 Samuel 12:23)

Paul prayed for the Colossians and Thessalonians:

9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; (Colossians 1:9)

11 Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power (2 Thessalonians 1:11)

The Apostle John also prayed for the physical needs of people:

2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 2)

It is more than just leaders that are to pray for others.  The Apostle James wrote that Christians were to “pray for one another” (James 5:16).

Jesus taught:

44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,  45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:44-45)

35 It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35)

It is blessed to pray for others, including enemies, but many do not do it.  Remember to bless and this often can immediately help you. Many feel that they will get to praying for others after they feel they are taken care of.  Yet, selfishness is not what prayer is all about—we are to be God’s sons! …

Here is a listing of the 28 tips:

  1. Pray to God the Father
  2. Worship God in Truth
  3. Believe God
  4. Obey God: Do More than the Demons
  5. Worship God in Spirit
  6. Resist Satan
  7. Don’t Fight God
  8. Pray for Others
  9. Pray for Your Needs
  10. Remember God’s Will and Have Your Priorities in Order
  11. Praying Positions from the Bible
  12. Pray Every Day
  13. Forgiveness
  14. Recognize God’s Spirit
  15. Pray for What the Bible Says to Pray For
  16. Ask for Spiritual Gifts
  17. Don’t Pray for Show

  24. The Difficult: Remember Fasting
  25. Pray With Thanksgiving
  26. Deal With ‘Secret Sins’
  27. Change Can Make the Impossible, Possible
  28. Close with Amen

Some may be thinking:

“Wait a minute!  I want God to do things MY WAY. That is why I pray.  And you keep quoting verses that I should confess my sins, pray for others, pray for the work, pray for God’s will to be done, give thanks, and even fast.  Those are not the kind of tips I was hoping for.”

Well, you either believe the God of the Bible or you do not.  You can pray for your wants and needs, but you need to understand that prayer is intended to be more than a ‘please give me this, please give me that’ process.

Study, review, and strive to understand all the tips in this booklet. Read the Bible. Pray regularly to the Father.

If you believe and will follow what the Bible says, God will answer your prayers. The twenty-eight tips in this booklet should give you at least a start to realize how God wants you to view prayer.

17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:17)

Pray.

Could the U.S. dollar be losing its safe-haven status?

The financial markets and the USA dollar has been impacted by Donald Trump’s tariffs, statements, and other policies:

Is the U.S. dollar losing its safe-haven status? Capital Economics weighs in

April 20, 2025

Concerns are swirling around the U.S. dollar’s traditional safe-haven status in the wake of President Donald Trump’s back-and-forth tariff announcements, according to analysts at Capital Economics.

An index tracking the dollar against a basket of its currency pairs slumped earlier this month as markets around the world were shaken by Trump’s levies. …

In a note to clients, the Capital Economics analysts said that “indirect damage” has been done to the dollar by the tariffs, generating extreme uncertainty around the broader economic outlook and undermining confidence in U.S. institutions and asset markets. …

“It is too soon to say what the longer-term effects of [the tariff-driven] turmoil will be, and there is still time for damage limitation by policymakers,” the analysts wrote.

“But, in our view, it is no longer hyperbole to say that the dollar’s reserve status and broader dominant role is at least somewhat in question, even if the inertia and network effects that have kept the dollar on top for decades are not going away any time soon and our base case is that it will recover to some degree.” https://www.investing.com/news/forex-news/is-the-us-dollar-losing-its-safehaven-status-capital-economics-weighs-in-3983855

What is happening now is on top of what has been going on for some time.

Which is?

The USA has massive debt, has imposed numerous sanctions, has threatened other sanctions, cut nations out of Swift, and has often weaponized its dollar.

As more and more nations are affected, less and less trust the “safe haven” status of the US dollar.

Notice also the following from Alex Deluce as posted at ZeroHedge:

The Global Safe Haven Is Slowly Breaking: Why Central Banks Are Turning To Gold

April 20, 2025

The global financial system is not just shifting, it is starting to breakdown.

On April 1st, I wrote: The erosion of trust: the times are changing.”

That warning has since become a headline. …

For years, I’ve documented the growing dangers of the West’s overreliance on financial warfare:

  • Sanctions
  • Reserve freezes
  • The weaponization of SWIFT

These weren’t strategic tools of diplomacy. They were early signs of something deeper: desperation, fragility, and a crumbling world order.

In just the past year, the U.S. dollar has lost over 35% of its purchasing power against gold, driven by record central bank gold buying. This isn’t a trend, it’s a signal.

Meanwhile, the BRICS nations are growing more coordinated, even as fractures widen among traditional Western allies.

Across Europe and Asia, leaders are reassessing their exposure to a system that no longer feels stable. …

With over $37 trillion in federal debt and more than $100 trillion when household, corporate, and long-term entitlement obligations are included, the system is buckling under the sheer weight of its own promises. …

With trust evaporating, gold is no longer just a hedge. It’s becoming the foundation of a new system.

That’s why my recent conversation with Matthew Piepenburg, Partner at VON GREYERZ, couldn’t have come at a more important time. …

The de-dollarization trend, long discussed in policy circles, has become an observable reality in the wake of U.S. sanctions against Russia. What began as an assertion of geopolitical power has accelerated a multipolar financial realignment.

“Since the weaponization of the U.S. dollar in 2022, 45 countries are now trading outside of it,” Piepenburg told me. “Thirty countries have repatriated their physical gold. That’s not a coincidence, it’s a reaction.” …

We are not witnessing the end of the U.S. dollar but we are witnessing the end of its unchallenged supremacy.

The petrodollar framework is fracturing. Gold is being quietly repurposed as a strategic reserve asset. And U.S. Treasuries the once untouchable cornerstone of global markets are being reassessed by the very institutions that once depended on them. https://www.zerohedge.com/precious-metals/global-safe-haven-slowly-breaking-why-central-banks-are-turning-gold

The Europeans have long wanted the euro to push the US dollar’s reserve currency status aside and the BRICS+ alliance wants to try to stop using the US dollar for cross-border trade.

The BRICS+ alliance includes Russia, China, and various African and Asian nations.

Related to the US dollar and BRICS, the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

14:31

BRICS Push Aside USA Dollar

The BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) have as one of their founding goals, to eliminate the need to use USA dollars in cross-border trade. Six additional nations have been invited to join BRICS in 2024, and India reports that six more are also being looked at. The BRICS nations have already begun to drop the USA dollar for some cross-border trading with Russia and China indicating that they had almost done so completely in late 2023. What will happen to the economy and value of the USA dollar if more and more nations stop using it as a primary reserve and trading currency? What about hyperinflation? Does the Bible prophesy destruction for a highly indented nation in the end time? Is the USA the most indebted nation of all time? What about the intent and use of the Euro? Will Europe and Asia cooperate to eliminate the USA and its British-descended allies?

Here is a link to our video: BRICS Push Aside USA Dollar.

No, the US cannot survive this without massive change which it does not appear to be able to do. Yes, the danger to the US is real. And while in theory it is still fixable, that will not happen.

Last Fall I wrote:

Neither a possible Trump-Vance or Harris-Walz Administration has proposed anything that would truly stop de-dollarization. Actually threats against nations involved, by Donald Trump, as well as policies suggested by Kamala Harris, will tend to increase the speed of de-dollarization. (Thiel B. MW: Can America Survive Global De-Dollarization? COGwriter: No! COGwriter, October 4, 2024)

Well, that is happening. There will be many unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s statements and policies.

Notice something from my latest book available at Amazon Kindle: Unintended Consequences and Donald Trump’s Presidency: Is Donald Trump Fulfilling Biblical, Islamic, Greco-Roman Catholic, Buddhist, and other America-Related Prophecies? as well as Amazon print Unintended Consequences and Donald Trump’s Presidency: Is Donald Trump Fulfilling Biblical, Islamic, Greco-Roman Catholic, Buddhist, and other America-Related Prophecies?:

Notice what Donald Trump stated in late 2024:

The idea that the BRICS countries are trying to move away from the dollar while we stand by and watch is over,” Trump wrote in a Nov. 30 Truth Social post. …

“We require a commitment from these countries that they will neither create a new BRICS currency, nor back any other currency to replace the mighty U.S. dollar or, they will face 100 percent tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. economy,” the president-elect recently wrote.

In October, speaking at the Economic Club of Chicago with Bloomberg, Trump warned … “We have to have that. We cannot lose it,” Trump said. “You’ll go to Third World status in this country because you take a look at the way things are running.” (Durden T. De-Dollarization Effort In Spotlight After Trump’s Tariff Threat On BRICS. ZeroHedge, December 3, 2024)

Yes, the impact of the USA dollar losing its reserve status would be horrible–and even worse than Donald Trump asserted. And things like 100% tariffs are inflationary.

The BRICS+ nations, which compose nearly half the population of the world, still want to bypass the US dollar.

US President-elect Donald Trump has threatened 100 percent tariffs on BRICS nations if they replace the dollar in international trade.

However, Brazil has indicated that it aims to boost the effort during its presidency of BRICS. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s government has said its objective is the “development of means of payment” to facilitate trade between member countries.[i]

Furthermore, some suspect that more countries in BRICS+ may destroy the ‘petrodollar’ system that supports the dollar.[ii]

The USA dollar will ultimately crash and be worthless. That “pride” of American power will be broken (cf. Leviticus 26:19).  …

European leaders have been working for years to establish a new reserve currency for the world, partially with the intent to remove the USA dollar from its current position as a reserve currency.

Those in Russia, Iran and some of the Arab lands, along with nations such as Brazil and India have discussed plans for the removal of the dominance of the USA dollar in global trade as well. Many are now working on that, along with China, in what is called the BRICS alliance.[iii] While Donald Trump did not cause all of this, an unintended consequence of the use of sanctions in the Trump-Pence Administration (as well as by the Biden-Harris Administration) is that more nations are looking to bypass the dollar. …

When the U.S. dollar is no longer the world’s reserve currency, this will hurt the USA financially. Increasing debt, including “quantitative easing,” is a form of dishonest profits that is not something that God approves of and will punish the USA for (cf. Ezekiel 22:13-16).

Inflation will eventually hit the USA extremely hard. As the world becomes less attached to the American dollar, many financial jobs and opportunities will be in places other than the USA. Eventually, but not yet, the USA dollar will become worthless.

Will it always be straight downhill for the economy of the USA?

No.

There are some reasons to have some temporary optimism. Proposed reductions in government regulations are expected to boost the economy. In addition, technological and other developments may temporarily support the U.S. economy—as can reductions of regulatory burdens.

Some policies of Donald Trump’s may help. …

For years, I have written that because of improvements in various aspects of energy and other technology (some of which Donald Trump seems to support), the USA may experience even more of an energy export boom, such as with oil and natural gas, etc. that may prolong its days of economic prosperity.[iv]  But prolonging is likely all that is possible as its destruction is prophesied (Daniel 11:39; Habakkuk 2:6-8). …

Since many are now questioning the role of the USA dollar as the world’s reserve currency, more are looking into other currencies as well as gold.

Gold will set records in U.S. dollar terms. …

When the U.S. dollar totally collapses people all around the world will consider that even if the euro (or something similar) is strong, having a more gold-backed currency would be safer.

The collapse of the USA dollar will shake a lot of the world’s confidence in non-gold backed currencies. The Europeans do not have to have a perfect currency, only one that is perceived to be in better shape than the USA dollar or various other currencies.

Having the European power acquiring more gold to back the Euro or possibly another future European currency (that might potentially replace the Euro or even a basket of currencies) may greatly increase European credibility, prosperity, and influence around the globe, even if the backing is only implied.

The debt accumulation policies of the Obama-Biden and the Trump-Pence Administrations, which were a massive acceleration of the previous policies of the Bush Administration, have to a large degree been continued and expanded by the Biden-Harris Administration.

The increases in America’s debt are heading the world into the time when something other than the U.S. dollar will be valued as its reserve currency.

A Trump-Vance Administration would need to make massive changes to possibly prevent this.

The USA and its dollar are at serious risk. …

Unintended Consequences

While Donald Trump seems to believe that his policies are best for the United States, notice some unintended consequences of them: …

  • Pushing tariffs and sanctions on other countries is contributing to the rise of the final time of the Gentiles (Luke 21:24; Ezekiel 7:24).
  • Pushing tariffs and other policies that foreign nations do not like is contributing to other nations looking to bypass the USA dollar, as well as trade more with each other and less with the USA. This will further push various globalist’s moves forward without the USA. This is also helping set the stage for the coming European Babylonian Beast to dominate international trade.

Since the above was published, gold has set records in US dollar terms multiple times. And more countries are looking seriously about bypassing the US dollar because of tariffs.

The US dollar is going away as the world’s premier currency and the damage to the US economy is beyond what most of its politicians realize.

That said, it is not just Russia, China, and parts of Africa and Asia that are pushing towards de-dollarization, so are the Europeans. They are also in the process of increasing their gold reserves, partially at the expense of decreasing their US dollar reserves.

Do not think that Europe will not one day support the complete toppling of the US dollar as well as the US itself (cf. Daniel 11:39).

The Hebrew prophet Habakkuk was told by God to write the following:

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry…5 Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man … 6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases What is not his–how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’? 7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty. 8 Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you. Because of men’s blood And the violence of the land and the city, And of all who dwell in it. (Habakkuk 2:3,5,6-8).

The time will come when world will wake up to the fact that the USA cannot possibly pay back its debts and will take successful military actions against the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39).

I have long believed that Europe will one day have some type of gold-backing for its currency (and published about that back in 2009).

After the US dollar is gone, the Bible shows that Europe will dominate international trade and finance, and this will involve gold (cf. Daniel 11:37-43; Revelation 18). It will also make deals with the BRICS+ nations.

The Bible shows that the European King of the North will end up with gold. Daniel 11:43:

43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels.

The “he” is the King of the North. This is the same King of the North that valued gold and silver in Daniel 11:38. Although other scriptures also show that gold and silver will have value around this time (like Revelation 18; 9:20), the Bible is clear that gold and silver will be worthless for a short time before Jesus returns, e.g. Ezekiel 7:19.

The fact that the King of the North himself will accumulate gold (and some silver) is consistent with several Byzantine (“Greek” Orthodox) prophecies of their expected Great Monarch:

Emperor Leo the Philosopher (died 912): You will amass gold…And you will be the leader of the surrounding nations…

Addressed to Emperor Manuel II Palaeogous (died 1425): The Emperor…will discover gold and silver…

Saint Andrew Fool-for-Christ (c. 4th century): God will reveal to this king all the gold wherever it happen to lay concealed from view…

One side note is, that in Egypt, major gold deposits were found in 2006. This is relevant as it does prove that Egypt now has enough gold that a foreign power could be interested in taking/using it as Bible prophecy teaches.

Since many are now questioning the role of the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency, more are looking into other currencies as well as gold.

Gold will set records in US dollar terms.

Now, I have made the previous statement many times, and gold has set records in US dollar terms many times since I started writing that statement.

It has been reported by others that many nations around the world are already in the process of accumulating gold to one day overthrow the US dollar—and that the “U.S. is unprepared for this strategic alternative to dollar dominance.”

When the US dollar totally collapses people all around the world will consider that even if the euro (or something similar) is strong, having a more gold-backed currency would be safer.

The collapse of the US dollar will shake a lot of the world’s confidence in non-gold backed currencies.

The Europeans do not have to have a perfect currency, only one that is perceived to be in better shape than the US dollar.

Having the European power acquiring more gold to back the Euro or possibly another future European currency (that might potentially replace the Euro or even a basket of currencies) may greatly increase European credibility, prosperity, and influence around the globe, even if the backing is only implied.

The debt accumulation policies of the US government are going to be a factor in the dollar’s and the USA’s decline.

The increases in America’s debt are heading the world into the time when something other than the US dollar will be valued as its reserve currency.

The end of US dollar dominance is coming.

Marijuana culture’s high holiday

The Associated Press posted the following:

Marijuana holiday 4/20 …

Marijuana culture’s high holiday, known as 4/20, falls this year on Easter Sunday, … meaning cannabis fans can celebrate in some unusual ways, including an “Easter nug hunt” in Los Angeles, kosher-style THC gummies in New York and a “blaze and praise” drag brunch in Portland, Oregon.

“It seemed appropriate with egg prices today that we’d be searching for something else,” said Brett Davis, who runs the marijuana tour company Weed Bus Los Angeles and organized the “Easter nug hunt.” …

Steve Bloom, a reporter for the cannabis magazine High Times, was at a Dead show when he was handed a flyer urging people to “meet at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420-ing in Marin County at the Bolinas Ridge sunset spot on Mt. Tamalpais.” High Times published it.

“It’s a phenomenon,” one of the Waldos, Steve Capper, now 69, once told The Associated Press. “Most things die within a couple years, but this just goes on and on. It’s not like someday somebody’s going to say, ‘OK, Cannabis New Year’s is on June 23rd now.’” …

How is it celebrated?

With weed, naturally. …

Just north of the Bay Area, Lagunitas Brewing in Petaluma, California, releases its “Waldos’ Special Ale” every year on 4/20 in partnership with the term’s coiners.

4/20 also has become a big industry event, with vendors gathering to try each other’s wares. https://apnews.com/article/marijuana-cannabis-holiday-420-easter-sunday-cb03d644627c9fdde04ca9e3a3a619f2

Promoting marijuana use is wrong, as is using it.

While many want to think that marijuana use is safe, science has come to a different conclusion:

Cannabis Use Linked to Epigenetic Changes, Scientists Find

March 17, 2025

Using cannabis may cause changes in the human body’s epigenome, a study of over 1,000 adults suggests. The epigenome functions like a set of switches, activating or deactivating genes to change how our bodies function.

“We observed associations between cumulative marijuana use and multiple epigenetic markers across time,” explained epidemiologist Lifang Hou from Northwestern University when the research was published in 2023.

Cannabis is a commonly used substance in the United States, with 49 percent of people trying it at least once, Hou and a team of US researchers report in their published paper. …

Using these blood samples from five years apart, Hou and her team looked at the epigenetic changes, specifically DNA methylation levels, of people who had used cannabis recently or for a long time. …

“We previously identified associations between marijuana use and the aging process as captured through DNA methylation,” Hou said. …

Multiple epigenetic changes associated with cannabis use had previously been linked to things like cellular proliferation, hormone signaling, infections, neurological disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders. https://www.sciencealert.com/cannabis-use-linked-to-epigenetic-changes-scientists-find

So, it looks like marijuana use speeds up negative aging impacts.

But there are more issues than those reported above.

Last Fall, the New York Times reported:

The drug, legal in much of the country, is widely seen as nonaddictive and safe. For some users, these assumptions are dangerously wrong.

October 4, 2024

In midcoast Maine, a pediatrician sees teenagers so dependent on cannabis that they consume it practically all day, every day — “a remarkably scary amount,” she said.

From Washington State to West Virginia, psychiatrists treat rising numbers of people whose use of the drug has brought on delusions, paranoia and other symptoms of psychosis.

And in the emergency departments of small community hospitals and large academic medical centers alike, physicians encounter patients with severe vomiting induced by the drug — a potentially devastating condition that once was rare but now, they say, is common. “Those patients look so sick,” said a doctor in Ohio, who described them “writhing around in pain.”

As marijuana legalization has accelerated across the country, doctors are contending with the effects of an explosion in the use of the drug and its intensity. A $33 billion industry has taken root, turning out an ever-expanding range of cannabis products so intoxicating they bear little resemblance to the marijuana available a generation ago. Tens of millions of Americans use the drug, for medical or recreational purposes — most of them without problems.

But with more people consuming more potent cannabis more often, a growing number, mostly chronic users, are enduring serious health consequences.

The accumulating harm is broader and more severe than previously reported. And gaps in state regulations, limited public health messaging and federal restraints on research have left many consumers, government officials and even medical practitioners in the dark about such outcomes.

Again and again, The New York Times found dangerous misconceptions.

Many users believe, for instance, that people cannot become addicted to cannabis. But millions do.

About 18 million people — nearly a third of all users ages 18 and up — have reported symptoms of cannabis use disorder, according to estimates from a unique data analysis conducted for The Times by a Columbia University epidemiologist. That would mean they continue to use the drug despite significant negative effects on their lives. Of those, about three million people are considered addicted.

The estimates are based on responses to the 2022 U.S. national drug use survey from people who reported any cannabis consumption within the previous year. The results are especially stark among 18- to 25-year-olds: More than 4.5 million use the drug daily or near daily, according to the estimates, and 81 percent of those users meet the criteria for the disorder.

“That means almost everybody that uses it every day is reporting problems with it,” said Dr. Wilson Compton, deputy director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, who was not involved in the analysis. “That is a very clear warning sign.”

Marijuana is known for soothing nausea. But for some users, it has the opposite effect.

“Why don’t more doctors know about it? Why didn’t anyone ever mention it to me?” …

A telltale sign of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is that heat often temporarily relieves the nausea and vomiting. Hundreds of people recounted to The Times, in interviews and survey responses, that they had spent hour after hour in hot baths and showers. Some were burned by scalding water. One teenager was injured when, in desperation, he pressed his body against a hot car.

Researchers don’t know why heat soothes the syndrome, known as C.H.S., nor why certain chronic marijuana users develop it and others don’t. But the onset appears to be related to the way marijuana interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, a network of signaling molecules and receptors that help regulate vital functions like sleep, digestion and the perception of pain. People with severe symptoms frequently require emergency care. …

In recent years, the syndrome has received growing attention in the medical field. Among those who speak out about it is Dr. Ethan Russo, a neurologist in Vashon, Wash., who helped develop one of the few cannabis-derived drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and continues to research therapeutic benefits of marijuana.

“I spent most of the last 30 years supporting medicinal uses of cannabis,” he said. “However, I have also talked about the harms and pitfalls of cannabis, specifically cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. It’s a serious problem and a genuine reason that some people should not use.”

Dr. Sharon Levy, chief of addiction medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, had a patient who believed coat hangers and sneakers had come to life. Dr. Luke Archibald, an addiction psychiatrist at Dartmouth Health in Lebanon, N.H., treated one who was charged with trespassing after following the directions of voices he hallucinated.

Many physicians said that they have seen growing numbers of patients with cannabis-induced temporary psychosis — lasting hours, days or even months. While it is more common among younger consumers, it can afflict people of all ages, whether heavy or first-time users, and with or without a family history or other risk factors for psychosis.

Dr. Levy and other physicians have also seen a rise in chronic psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia, in which they believe cannabis was a contributing factor. As America’s Marijuana Use Grows, So Do the Risks – The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Well, harms associated with the use of marijuana have always been there.

Despite what the pro-marijuana forces claim, marijuana is not healthy.

I used to tell patients who asserted that 20,000 or so studies showed that marijuana was beneficial, that no, that was not the case.

I basically told them that while a few studies found that marijuana helped some with anxiety, etc., that 1) there were safer and better ways to treat that and 2) most health studies found harm with marijuana.

THC (which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol) is the chemical that causes the “high” that goes along with marijuana consumption.

The so-called ‘health benefits’ of intoxifying marijuana (and I am not referring to CBD oil, which have little or no THC) are over stated by many and basically not really true (though it is true that those who are ‘high’ feel less physical pains–but other substances can do this without the making one ‘high’).

Intentionally breathing in smoke and/or simply swallowing mind altering hallucinogenic substances is not healthy.

People should NOT smoke marijuana nor eat it. It has many negative effects on the human body.

Many studies have shown that marijuana is frequently addictive and harmful.

The State of California hoped that it would make a lot of money because of marijuana, as did many California cities. However, in California at least, legalizing it has not brought in the vast amounts of tax revenues many claimed it would.

The Bible warns:

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10)

Notice what the National Institute of Health says about marijuana:

How Does Marijuana Affect the Brain?

When marijuana is smoked, THC rapidly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, which carries the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body. It is absorbed more slowly when ingested in food or drink.

However as it is ingested, THC acts on specific molecular targets on brain cells, called cannabinoid receptors. These receptors are ordinarily activated by chemicals similar to THC that naturally occur in the body (such as anandamide; see picture, above) and are part of a neural communication network called the endocannabinoid system. This system plays an important role in normal brain development and function.

The highest density of cannabinoid receptors is found in parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thinking, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement. Marijuana overactivates the endocannabinoid system, causing the “high” and other effects that users experience. These effects include altered perceptions and mood, impaired coordination, difficulty with thinking and problem solving, and disrupted learning and memory.

Marijuana also affects brain development, and when it is used heavily by young people, its effects on thinking and memory may last a long time or even be permanent. A recent study of marijuana users who began using in adolescence revealed substantially reduced connectivity among brain areas responsible for learning and memory. And a large long-term study in New Zealand showed that people who began smoking marijuana heavily in their teens lost an average of 8 points in IQ between age 13 and age 38. Importantly, the lost cognitive abilities were not fully restored in those who quit smoking marijuana as adults. Those who started smoking marijuana in adulthood did not show significant IQ declines.

What Are the Other Health Effects of Marijuana?

Marijuana use may have a wide range of effects, particularly on cardiopulmonary and mental health.

Marijuana smoke is an irritant to the lungs, and frequent marijuana smokers can have many of the same respiratory problems experienced by tobacco smokers, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, and a heightened risk of lung infections. One study found that people who smoke marijuana frequently, but do not smoke tobacco, have more health problems and miss more days of work than those who don’t smoke marijuana, mainly because of respiratory illnesses. It is not yet known whether marijuana smoking contributes to risk for lung cancer.

Marijuana also raises heart rate by 20-100 percent shortly after smoking; this effect can last up to 3 hours. In one study, it was estimated that marijuana users have a 4.8-fold increase in the risk of heart attack in the first hour after smoking the drug. This risk may be greater in older individuals or in those with cardiac vulnerabilities.

A number of studies have linked chronic marijuana use and mental illness. High doses of marijuana can produce a temporary psychotic reaction (involving hallucinations and paranoia) in some users, and using marijuana can worsen the course of illness in patients with schizophrenia. A series of large studies following users across time also showed a link between marijuana use and later development of psychosis. This relationship was influenced by genetic variables as well as the amount of drug used, drug potency, and the age at which it was first taken—those who start young are at increased risk for later problems.

Associations have also been found between marijuana use and other mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts among adolescents, and personality disturbances, including a lack of motivation to engage in typically rewarding activities. More research is still needed to confirm and better understand these linkages.

Marijuana use during pregnancy is associated with increased risk of neurobehavioral problems in babies. Because THC and other compounds in marijuana mimic the body’s own endocannabinoid chemicals, marijuana use by pregnant mothers may alter the developing endocannabinoid system in the brain of the fetus. Consequences for the child may include problems with attention, memory, and problem solving.

Additionally, because it seriously impairs judgment and motor coordination, marijuana contributes to risk of injury or death while driving a car. A recent analysis of data from several studies found that marijuana use more than doubles a driver’s risk of being in an accident. The combination of marijuana and alcohol is worse than either substance alone with respect to driving impairment.

Inhaling or ingesting marijuana basically makes someone drunk.

The Bible repeatedly condemns drunkenness and activities associated with it:

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18)

21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty. (Proverbs 23:21)

11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner — not even to eat with such a person. (1 Corinthians 5:11)

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Romans 13:13-14)

Becoming intoxicated by marijuana is sinful and not something that Christians should do.

Back in 2014, the Continuing Church of God put out the following video on our Bible New Prophecy YouTube channel.

There is a growing trend to increase the legalization and public acceptance of smoking or ingesting marijuana. Is this something that Christians should do? What has US President Barack Obama said and done related to marijuana? What does the White House website state? Is marijuana no less dangerous than alcohol? Is marijuana safe? What are the affects of marijuana? Are there health risks? What about ‘medical marijuana’? What does the Bible teach about mental intoxication?

Here is a link to our video: How Should a Christian View Marijuana?

55 years ago, the old Worldwide Church of God published the following related to marijuana:

Are Good Results Produced?

The old saying is that “the proof of the pudding is in the eating.” Are there concrete beneficial fruits produced by marijuana? What does it actually do to, or for, a person? Does it make him a more productive member of society? How does it affect the user? Are those effects desirable?

Here are 27 typical reactions due to use of marijuana. They were excerpted from statements made about the drug from users. All of you who are using marijuana or thinking of using it — please read carefully.

Any sound-minded person will see that NOT ONE OF these effects is desirable.

1. Marijuana makes me unable to operate normally — for instance, drive a car or operate a machine.
2. It slows me down quite a bit and I lost my initiative when I started to use marijuana.
3. I feel stubborn and get into arguments when I am high.
4. I get into a panic.
5. It makes me sleepy, lazy.

23. If you are only going 20 miles an hour you think you are going much faster.
24. It made me want to go off alone and watch TV. I could see hidden meanings in the commercials.

26. Marijuana slowed me down too much, so I started using pills to stimulate me.
27. What used to bother me was it numbed my brain and I could not think right. I could not drive well. (New Facts About Marijuana. Ambassadir College Press, 1970)

Marijuana is not good for Christians. Notice also from the same booklet:

Psychotic Reactions

A psychosis is far worse than a mere “personality disorder” — a psychosis is a severe mental derangement. And it is charged that marijuana can generate — or can at least precipitate — a psychotic reaction.
Many scientific papers have been published on the relationship between the cannabis drugs and psychoses. Psychiatrists in India, Morocco, Egypt, and Nigeria have repeatedly emphasized that marijuana can produce insanity.
In his editorial in the March 14, 1968 issue of Science, Philip H. Abelson wrote:

“The inconclusive information about marijuana is not reassuring. . . . Some of the effects of marijuana seem reminiscent of LSD. Large doses may produce con fusion, disorientation, and increased anxiety and psychoses lasting hours or sometimes weeks. In the Middle East habitual use of marijuana leads to cannabis psychosis whose victims are reminiscent of the derelicts of skid row.”

In Western scientific circles much controversy has arisen over the possible psychotogenic effects of marijuana.

And, obviously, there are differences of opinion among even the experts. But what sane person would gamble his mental health — and his entire future-on “somebody’s opinion”?

We know the adverse effects of marijuana depend to a large degree upon the individual user. Therefore, it is probable that marijuana would cause psychotic reactions in persons with unstable or poorly organized personalities.

Now nobody likes to admit that his or her personality is poorly organized. Everybody naturally likes to think of himself as mentally stable.

Well, just ponder this one point: studies have shown that most people who take drugs have a somewhat poorly organized personality to begin with. That’s why they take drugs. That’s why drugs appeal to them. They lack something in their lives — and they hope drugs will supply it. So, the simple fact that a person wants to use drugs should immediately suggest that that person could very well have a poorly organized personality, and, therefore, be vulnerable to an irreparable psychotic reaction. (New Facts About Marijuana. Ambassadir College Press, 1970)

Christians should not ingest or smoke marijuana (this differs from hemp protein, which is not mind altering, and is normally fine).

The increased use of marijuana is not good.

Does marijuana cause harm?

Many consider that the use of marijuana is both safe and non-addictive. Is that so? The New York Times reported that since the legalization of the drug across much of the USA, that there have been increases in physical and mental disorders among users of cannabis products. Modern marijuana is often more potent than what many used last century . “About 18 million people — nearly a third of all users ages 18 and up — have reported symptoms of cannabis use disorder.” Did you know that among 18- to 25-year-old Americans, more than 4.5 million use the drug daily or near daily, according to the estimates, and 81 percent of those users meet the criteria for the disorder?“ That means almost everybody that uses it every day is reporting problems with it,” said Dr. Wilson Compton, deputy director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Marijuana can interfere with brain development, cause lung and heart problems, and result in having a psychosis. Is knowledge of problems with marijuana known or did the old Worldwide Church of God warn of them 54 years ago? Should Christians get drunk or high? Are there more problems with marijuana than many seem to want to admit? Dr. Thiel and Steve Dupuie address these issues.

Eostre: Goddess of the Dawn

COGwriter

On Friday, the German news source Deutsche Welle had a post that stated “chocolate rabbits are the most obvious secular sign of Easter” (https://www.dw.com/en/top-stories/s-9097). From the photo above, you can see a rabbit, which was associated with the worship of the pagan fertility goddess of the dawn–Eostre–that is basically the basis for chocolate Easter rabbits now.

Wikipedia had the following related to that goddess and Easter:

Ēostre ([ˈeːostre])[1][2][3] is an Anglo-Saxon goddess mentioned by Bede in his 8th century work The Reckoning of Time. He wrote that pagan Anglo-Saxons had held feasts in her honour during the month named after her: Ēosturmōnaþ (April), and that this became the English name for the Paschal season: Easter.  (Ēostre. Wikipedia, accessed 04/19/25).

The Continuing Church of God has the following sermon on its ContinuingCOG channel:

1:11:20

Did you know that Easter is supposed to be Passover according to the ‘Catechism of the Catholic Church’? Was this originally observed by Christians on a day other than Sunday? Was Passover originally a resurrection holiday or a commemoration of Christ’s death? In this sermon, Dr. Thiel goes over many amazing historical and biblical facts about Easter and Passover. He cites Jesus’ words about worship. He also quotes the Apostle Paul who warned about combining demonic worship practices with Passover. He cites the Apostle John’s words about not being faithful to what he taught as well as some of what John taught about antichrists. Dr. Thiel addresses “fact checkers” and others who assert that the Babylonian goddess Ishtar is not associated with Easter. He cites the 8th century monk known as the “venerable Bede” who taught that Easter came from Eostre, the pagan goddess of the dawn. Dr. Thiel also discusses Easter eggs, Easter rabbits, and their ties to paganism. This is a sermon to watch if you are interested in worshiping God in spirit and in truth.

Here is a link to our sermon video: Is Easter a Really Christian Holiday?

Some claim that the pagan connections do not matter.

They claim Jesus was resurrected on a Sunday morning, so their worship then is fine.

But recall that Jesus said:

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24)

The truth is that Jesus was not resurrected on Sunday according to the Bible. Nor did early Christians celebrate this on a Sunday morning.

For some information about the ‘crucifixion’ in Spanish, please click on ¿Murió Jesús un día miércoles o un viernes?

Related to Spanish, there is a video:

English title:  Did Christ rise on a Sunday?
Spanish title:  ¿Resucitó Cristo un domingo?

Here is one explanation, primarily using New Testament texts about the day of the crucifixion and the day of the resurrection, from the 1952 booklet of the old Radio Church of God titled The RESURRECTION was NOT on Sunday by the late Herbert W. Armstrong explaining this:

It is commonly supposed, today, Jesus was crucified on FRIDAY, and that the resurrection occurred about sunrise on Easter Sunday morning.

It would seem that no one, until recently, ever thought to question or to PROVE this “Good-Friday-Easter” tradition. Yet the Bible tells us to PROVE all things. And you will be literally astounded by this proof.

For PROOF there is but one dependable authority; a sole historical record — the Bible…

The doubting Pharisees were asking Jesus for a SIGN– a supernatural evidence — in proof of His Messiahship.

Jesus answered: “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of man be THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS in the heart of the earth.” (Matt. 12:38-40). Now consider, please, the tremendous import — the overwhelming significance — of Jesus’ statements!

He expressly declared that the ONLY SIGN He would give to prove He was the Messiah was that He should be just THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS in the rock-hewn sepulchre in “the heart of the earth.”

The Significance of the Sign

These Christ-rejecting Pharisees demanded PROOF. Jesus offered but one evidence. That evidence was not the fact of the resurrection itself — it was the LENGTH OF TIME He would repose in His grave, before being resurrected.

Think what this means! Jesus staked His claim to being your Saviour and mine upon remaining exactly THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS in the tomb. IF He remained just three days and three nights inside the earth, He would PROVE Himself the Saviour — if He failed in this sign, He must be rejected as an imposter!

No wonder Satan has caused unbelievers to scoff at the story of Jonah and the “Whale!” No wonder the Devil has set up a tradition that DENIES Jesus is the Messiah!…

The BIBLE Definition

But the BIBLE definition of the duration of “nights and days” is simple.

Even these same higher critics admit that in the HEBREW language, in which the book of Jonah was written, the expression “three days and three nights” means a period of 72 hours — three twelve-hour days and three twelve-hour nights.

Notice Jonah 1:17: “And Jonah was in the belly of the fish THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS!” This, they admit was a period of 72 hours. And Jesus distinctly said that AS Jonah was three days and three nights in the great fish’s belly, So He would be the same length of time in His grave!

As Jonah was in the “GRAVE” (see marginal reference, Jonah 2:2) 72 hours, after which he was supernaturally resurrected by God, by being vomited up, to become a saviour to the people of Ninevah upon proclaiming the warning to them, so should Jesus be 72 hours in His grave, thereupon being resurrected by God to become the saviour of the world!

Did Jesus know how much time was in a “day” and in a “night”? Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in a day … but if a man walk in the NIGHT, he stumbleth.” (John 11:9-10).

Notice the BIBLE DEFINITION of the expression, “THE THIRD DAY.” Text after text tells us that Jesus rose THE THIRD DAY. See how the BIBLE defines the time required to fulfill “THE THIRD DAY.”

In Genesis 1:4 God “divided the LIGHT from the DARKNESS. And God called the LIGHT Day, and the DARKNESS He called Night. And the evening (darkness) and the morning (light) were THE FIRST DAY … and the evening (darkness) and the morning (light) were THE SECOND DAY, … and the evening (now three periods of darkness called NIGHT – three nights) and the morning (now three periods of light called DAY — three days) were THE THIRD DAY.” (Gen 1:4- 13).

Here we have the ONLY BIBLE DEFINITION which explains and COUNTS UP the amount of time involved in the expression “THE THIRD DAY.” It includes three dark periods called NIGHT, and three light periods called DAY — three days and three nights, and Jesus said they contained TWELVE HOURS for each period — a total of 72 hours!

That ought to be conclusive! Any seven-year old, near the end of the second grade, could figure it easily. We praise God that His plain truths are revealed UNTO BABES, and hidden from the wise and prudent!

What Is Wrong?

What is wrong with these plain, simple words of Jesus? How do these wise and prudent theologians KNOW Jesus was crucified “Good Friday” and rose “Easter Sunday?”

The simple answer is, THEY DO NOT KNOW IT — for IT IS NOT TRUE! It is merely TRADITION — a tradition we have been taught from childhood, and carelessly ASSUMED! Jesus warns against making “the Word of God of none effect through your TRADITION.” (Mark 7:13).

We have examined two scriptural witnesses, in Matthew and in Jonah, both setting the duration of the body of Jesus in the tomb as three days and three nights, which the Scriptures plainly define as 72 hours of time. Now let us examine four other Scriptural witnesses that PROVE THE SAME THING.

Notice Mark 8:31 “And He began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and AFTER three days rise again.”

Our young second grader can figure this. IF Jesus had been killed on Friday, and then AFTER one day He had risen, the resurrection would have occurred on Saturday evening. IF AFTER TWO DAYS, it would have occurred Sunday evening, and if AFTER THREE DAYS, it would have occurred MONDAY EVENING!

Examine this text carefully. You cannot, by any process of arithmetic, figure any less than a full 72 hours — three days and three nights — in a resurrection which occurred three days AFTER the crucifixion! If Jesus was in the grave only from Friday sunset to Sunday sunrise, then this text too, must be torn out of your Bible or else you must reject Jesus Christ as your Saviour! If He rose AFTER THREE DAYS, it might have been more than 72 hours, but it could not have been a second less!

Notice now Mark 9:31. “… they shall kill him; and AFTER that he is killed, he shall rise THE THIRD DAY.” The duration expressed here must be between 48 and 72 hours. It could not be one second PAST 72 hours, and Jesus still rise THE THIRD DAY. And it could not be Friday sunset to Sunday sunrise, because that is only 36 hours, carrying us into the middle of the second day, AFTER He was killed.

In Matthew 27:63 Jesus is quoted as saying, “AFTER THREE DAYS I will rise again.” This cannot possibly be figured as less than 72 full hours.

And in John 2:18-22, “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and IN three days I will raise it up … but HE spake of the temple of his body.” To be raised up IN three days after being destroyed, or crucified and buried, could not be more than 72 hours.

If we are to accept all the testimony of THE BIBLE, we must conclude that Jesus was exactly three days and three nights — three full 24-hour days — 72 hours in the grave or the only supernatural proof He gave must fail.

The TIME OF DAY of the Resurrection

Now notice carefully this fact: In order to be three days and three nights — 72 hours — in the tomb, our Lord had to be resurrected at exactly THE SAME TIME OF DAY that His body was buried in the tomb!

Let us realize that very vital fact.

If we can find the TIME OF DAY of the burial, then we have found the TIME OF DAY of the resurrection! If the burial, for instance, was at sunrise, then in order to be left an even three days and three nights in the tomb, the resurrection likewise had to occur at sunrise, three days later. If the burial were at noon, the resurrection was at noon. If the burial was at sunset, the resurrection was at sunset, three days later.

Jesus cried on the cross soon after “the ninth hour” or three o’clock in the afternoon. (Matt. 27:46-50; Mark 15:34-37; Luke 23:44-46).

The crucifixion day was called “the preparation,” or day before “the Sabbath.” (Matt. 27:62; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; John 19:14). This day ended at sunset, according to Bible reckoning (Lev. 23:32).

Yet Jesus was buried before this same day ended — before sunset. (Matt. 27:57; Luke 23:52-54). John adds, “There laid they Jesus, therefore, because of the Jews’ preparation day.” According to the laws observed by the Jews all dead bodies must be buried before the beginning of a Sabbath or feast day. Hence Jesus was buried BEFORE SUNSET on the same day He died. He died shortly after 3 p.m.

Therefore — notice carefully — the BURIAL OF CHRIST’S BODY WAS IN THE LATE AFTERNOON! It was between 3 p.m. and sunset as these Scriptures prove.

And since the RESURRECTION had to occur at the SAME TIME OF DAY, three days later, THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST OCCURRED, not at sunrise, but IN THE LATE AFTERNOON, near sunset! Startling as this fact may be, it is the PLAIN BIBLE TRUTH!

If Jesus rose at any other time of day, He could not have been three days and three nights in His grave. If He rose at any other time of day, He failed to prove, by the only sign He gave that He was the true Messiah, the Son of the living Creator! Either He rose near the END of a day near sunset, or else He is not the Christ! He staked His claim on that one and only sign!

So a time-honored tradition must be shattered! Let us praise God for His TRUTH which has been preserved through the dark ages, so that the true light may now shine forth, if our hearts and minds are still willing to receive it! Praise His name! Do you LOVE the TRUTH as it is revealed, or despise it and love the traditions you have heard? “Whosoever despiseth the Word shall be destroyed!” Let us say with David, “How precious also are THY thoughts unto me, O God!”

What Day Was the Resurrection?

Now which DAY OF THE WEEK was the resurrection day? The first investigators, Mary Magdalene and her companions, came to the sepulcher on the first day of the week (Sunday) very early, while it was yet dark, as the sun was beginning to rise, at dawn. (Mark 16:2; Luke 24:1; John 20:1).

Now here are the texts most people have SUPPOSED stated the resurrection was at sunrise Sunday morning. But they do not say that!

When the women arrived, the tomb was already OPEN! At that time Sunday morning while it was yet dark — JESUS WAS NOT THERE! Notice how the angel says “HE IS NOT HERE, BUT IS RISEN!” See Mark 16:6; Luke 24:3; John 20:2; Matt. 28:5-6.

Jesus was ALREADY RISEN at sunrise Sunday morning! Of course He was. He rose from the grave IN THE LATE AFTERNOON, near SUNSET!

And since we know the resurrection was just shortly prior to that Sunday morning, and that it occurred in the late afternoon of the day, we now may know THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST OCCURRED LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

The Sabbath day ended at sunset. It was late on that day, before the beginning of the first day of the week. It was not, then, a Sunday resurrection at all — it was a Sabbath resurrection!

Three days prior to Saturday afternoon is Wednesday afternoon. Hence, since Jesus was killed on a Wednesday and resurrected on a Saturday, there is no biblical reason for “Easter” to be on a Sunday. The resurrection was not on Sunday.

Some have claimed that one of the following scriptures (vs. 21) proves a Friday crucifixion and a Sunday resurrection:

13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.

17 And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?”

18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?”

19 And He said to them, “What things?”

So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. 23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.”

25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. (Luke 24:13-27)

But it does not. The strongest evidence in favor of Wednesday as the crucifixion is Jesus’ own words about being in the grave three days and three nights, plus the fact that the Sabbath He was interned prior to, was a high day. As far as the counting of three, different people use different expressions to mean things. For example, in modern times, to say something will happen next Sunday may mean tomorrow or a week from tomorrow, hence I do not believe that the “third day since” argument is adequate to discount Wednesday.

Furthermore, notice this explanation from the late Herbert W. Armstrong:

Another passage that might confuse is Luke 24:21: “… And beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done.” “These things” included all the events pertaining to the resurrection — the seizing of Jesus, delivering Him to be tried, the actual crucifixion, and, finally, the setting of the seal and the watch over the tomb the following day, or Thursday. Study verses 18-20, telling of “these things” and also Matthew 27:62-66. “These things” were not completed until the watch was set, Thursday. And the text says Sunday was the third day since these things were done. Sunday truly was the third day since Thursday. But it was not the third day since Friday, so this text could not prove a Friday crucifixion. (The RESURRECTION was NOT on Sunday, Radio Church of God, 1952)

Notice that “these things” were not limited to placing Christ in the tomb. Yet some have erroneously concluded otherwise.

Notice the following:

62 On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.”

65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard. (Matthew 27:62-66).

The day “which followed the Day of Preparation” was a Thursday and the third day since that would be Sunday.

Even some Protestant scholars have long realized that there is biblical support that Jesus’ resurrection may have been on Saturday. Notice what one wrote in 1907:

…the Bible nowhere says or implies that Jesus was crucified and died on Friday. It is said that Jesus was crucified on “the day before the Sabbath“…Now, the Bible does not leave us to speculate which Sabbath is meant in this instance; for John tells us, in so many words, in John 19:14, that the day on which Jesus was tried and crucified was “the preparation of the Passover” (emphasis added). In other words, it was not the day before the weekly Sabbath (that is, Friday), but it was the day before the Passover Sabbath, which came that year on Thursday–that is to say, the day on which Jesus Christ was crucified was Wednesday. John makes this as clear as day… To sum it all up, Jesus died just about sunset on Wednesday. Seventy two hours later, exactly three days and three nights, at…Saturday at sunset, He arose again from the grave. (Torrey R.A. Difficulties in the Bible. Originally published 1907; Whitaker House; Updated edition, October 2003, pp. 168-169, 173).

Furthermore, see what the late Jerry Falwell, a Sunday-keeper, and others have admitted:

The Bible is actually silent on the precise moment of resurrection. Jesus’ followers came to His tomb before dawn on the first day of the week (Sunday), but they did not witness Him coming back to life. They merely found an empty tomb. Even the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, a Sunday-keeper and chancellor of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., agreed with that timetable, telling WND in 2001, “I personally believe He was crucified on Wednesday evening … and rose after 6 p.m. Saturday evening.” Most Christians today think Jesus died on a Friday and rose on Sunday. They point to Scriptures indicating a Sabbath day followed Jesus’ execution. But Sabbath-keepers claim it was not the weekly Sabbath of Saturday approaching. Rather, they say it was an annual Sabbath, a “high” holy day in the Hebrew calendar known as the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which supposedly occurred on a Thursday the week Jesus was killed. The Gospel of John mentions that Sabbath was the annual type. “The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) … .” (John 19:31) In other words, Sabbatarians say there was more than one day of rest that week. Their timeline has Jesus slain on Wednesday – the day before the “high day” annual Sabbath on Thursday. They believe Jesus was in the grave for a full three days and three nights, finally arising Saturday evening, the second Sabbath of the week. The mention of “three days and three nights” is important for many, as Jesus used that phrase to prove His divine identity: “For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so I, the Son of Man, will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.” (Matthew 12:40, New Living Translation) (Kovac, Joe. ‘Deception’: Christians war over worship day. Posted: March 16, 2008 5:24 pm Eastern. WorldNetDaily).

Hence, some do know the truth. And it is not just some Protestants. It is interesting to note that even into the 19th century, there was a ceremony in Rome that indicated a Saturday resurrection. Notice:

This ceremony is thus graphically described by the authoress of Rome in the 19th Century:”…the Pope himself, who walked beneath a crimson canopy, with his head uncovered, bearing the Host in a box; and this being, as you know, the real flesh and blood of Christ, was carried from the Sistine chapel through the intermediate hall to the Paulina chapel, where it was deposited in the sepulchre prepared to receive it beneath the altar…I never could learn why Christ was to be buried before He was dead, for, as the crucifixion did not take place till Good Friday, it seems odd to inter Him on Thursday. His body, however, is laid in the sepulchre, in all the churches of Rome, where this rite is practised, on Thursday forenoon, and it remains there till Saturday at mid-day, when, for some reason best known to themselves, He is supposed to rise from the grave amidst the firing of cannon, and blowing of trumpets, and jingling of bells…*” * The above account referred to the ceremonies as witnessed by the authoress in 1817 and 1818. It would seem that some change has taken place since then, caused probably by the very attention called by her to the gross anomaly mentioned above; for Count Vlodaisky, formerly a Roman Catholic priest, who visited Rome in 1845, has informed me that in that year the resurrection took place, not at mid-day, but at nine o’clock on the evening of Saturday. This may have been intended to make the inconsistency between Roman practice and Scriptural fact appear somewhat less glaring. Still the fact remains, that the resurrection of Christ, as celebrated at Rome, takes place, …on the day of Saturn…(Hislop, Alexander. Two Babylons. Loizeaux, Neptune (NJ), Second American Edition, 1959–originally expanded in 1858).

Whether the above ceremony still exists, this writer does not know. But it is interesting that at least one Roman ceremony involving the pope acknowledged a Saturday resurrection that late. Perhaps, this ceremony was originally adopted by Rome partially because the early Romans knew that Jesus was actually resurrected on Saturday.

Irrespective of that celebration, it is clear that there is evidence outside the Bible that among those that professed Christ, there were some who understood that the crucifixion was on a Wednesday and the resurrection was on a Saturday.
