Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel is to meet with the President of Greece later this week:

There have been various news reports that this crisis will ultimately mean that Germany and the EU will gain more and more leverage and control over the nations in Europe.  This seems to be what is happening.  Germany (and France for that matter) does not want to give money without receiving something in return.

In its weekly update yesterday, the Living Church of God reported:

Financial Crisis May Strengthen the Beast. All indicators point to a total financial collapse of the Greek economy unless a “strong hand from somewhere” intervenes. This crisis has powerful implications for the whole of Europe. One credit expert from Frankfurt observed, “Economically, we are in a very risky situation. Greece is close to default. We face systemic risk like the Lehman collapse and unless there is a bail-out for Greece, there will have to be a bail-out for the whole European banking system within two or three months.” “French banks have $76bn of exposure to Greece, the Swiss $64bn, and the Germans $43bn…. The exposure of Portuguese banks to Spain and Ireland equals 19pc of Portugal’s GDP.” Greece will apparently receive economic support, but many fear this will pave the way for the emergence of a European “central treasury”—as many European federalists desire (Telegraph, February 11, 2010). God prophesied that at the end of the age, ten kings or leaders will turn over their power to the Beast (Revelation 17:12-13). The financial crisis in Greece could precipitate, or “set the stage” for, this end-time transfer of power in Europe.

The late Herbert W. Armstrong believed that it would likely take a financial crisis to drive Europe closer to becoming the end-time Beast power.

In a sermon on July 7, 1984, Herbert W. Armstrong stated:

And I can see now, the event that is going to trigger the formation of the reunification in Europe; the resurrection of the medieval Holy Roman Empire that we’ve been looking forward to that is prophesied to come…

But I believe that some event is going to happen suddenly just like out a blue sky that is going to shock the whole world and is going to cause the nations in Europe to realize they must unite! … Well now I think I can see what may be the very event that is going to trigger…that is the economic situation in the world…

The whole banking structure in the United States is a network all jointed together. But not only that, one nation has to deal with other nations and imports and exports. And so they have to have a means of transforming money from one nation to another. And so the banking structure is international and interwoven…

Now when the financial structure breaks down, all civilization is going to break down…

The worldwide recession and the current crisis with Greece (as well as Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and some others in the EU) seems to be leading to EU wide actions.  Prophetic events are coming to pass.

The time for the King of the North to emerge is getting closer.

As Black History month ends, I thought it might be appropriate to quote some writings from the late Martin Luther King Jr.  Here is some of what he wrote on Mithraism, dated November 23, 1949:

In Avesta, Mithra was the genius of celestial light…The doctrine of the immortality of the soul was another view which was very prominent in Mithraism…

Women were compelled to seek salvation in some other cult, for Mithraism excluded them entirely…

When Mithraism is compared to Christianity, there are surprisingly many points of similarity. Of all the mystery cults, Mithraism was the greatest competitor of Christianity…

That Christians did copy and borrow from Mithraism cannot be denied (King ML. The papers of Martin Luther King, Jr, Volume 4. Clayborne Carson, Ralph Luker, Penny A. Russell editors/compliers. University of California Press, 1992, pp. 213-214, 217, 222, 224).

Here are some dated February 15, 1950:

Mithraism…was suppressed by the Christians sometime in the latter part of the fourth century A.D.: but its collapse seems to have been due to the fact that by that time many of its doctrines had been adopted by the church, so that it was practically absorbed by its rival.

…the Church made a sacred day out of Sunday partially because…of the resurrection. But when we observe a little further we find that as a solar festival, Sunday was the sacred day of Mithra: it is also interesting to notice that since Mithra was addressed as Lord, Sunday must have been “the Lord’s Day” long before Christian use. It is also to be noticed that our Christmas, December 25th, was the birthday of Mithra, and was only taken over in the Fourth Century as the date, actually unknown, of the birth of Jesus.

To make the picture a little more clear, we may list a few of the similarities between these two religions: (1) Both regard Sunday as a Holy Day. (2) December 25 came to be considered as the anniversary of the birth of Mithra and Christ also. (3) Baptism and a ritual meal were important parts of both groups…

In summary we may say that the belief in immortality, a mediator between god and man, the observance of certain sacramental rites…were common to Mithraism and Christianity. (King ML. Notice that Martin Luther King, Jr. clearly understood that the Sunday churches dropped the Sabbath, that “the Lord’s Day” essentially first meant the day of Mithra, and that the worlds’ churches did adopt many practices from Mithraism.

I wish he and others emphasized this aspect of his writings more. I would also add that Christians faithful to the original teachings of Christ, the apostles, and the New Testament did not adopt the practices of Mithraism.

While Dr. King was most known for his civil rights protests, he figured out that much of what passed for Christianity in his day was really a form that adopted Mithratic practices.  Does that include your version?  Are you sure?

Earthquake Damage in Port-au-Prince

Although the earthquake in Chile may have been 1,000 times as powerful (and there are now many problems there), the situation in Haiti is still quite bad.

Yet, in its latest update, LCG reported the following:

Dr. Wil Pierre reports, “Everything is going well with the brethren in Haiti. I will be traveling to Haiti for the Passover and spring Holy Days. I will be staying there for two weeks.” Dr. Pierre also comments that, “Summer clothing and non-perishable food and water is needed for the emergency pantry being set up in Haiti. Items such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, hair supplies, wash cloths, and dishwashing liquid are examples of needed materials that can be stored in the new building. We can use almost anything that can be used in the home.” The emergency food and clothing pantry will be patterned after the model of the Headquarters food and used clothing banks. The situation for those in Haiti has been quite difficult for years and is even more difficult in 2010.

Followers of biblical prophecy realize that earthquakes are one of the signs that are associated with what Jesus referred to as “the beginning of sorrows”.  My prayers remain with those in Haiti and Chile.

Note: I have not yet received a report about how LCG members are doing in Chile.  The main reports I have seen suggest that there are lots of problems in Chile, but the devastation and death is not nearly as high as in Haiti.

A massive 8.8 earthquake struck Chile this morning:

SANTIAGO (Reuters) – A massive magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck south-central Chile early on Saturday, killing at least 85 people, knocking down buildings, homes and hospitals, and triggering a tsunami.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100227/wl_nm/us_quake_chile_21

The President of Chile declared “a state of catastrophe” according to other reports I have seen on this.  Also, the EU was the first major entity I saw that reported that it would provide assistance to Chile (though doubtless others will help).

This quake in Chile is much, much, more powerful than the one that hit Haiti (Earthquake in Haiti: The End of the World?)–though unless the situation changes, the death toll there will be much, much, less.  Those in Chile (and Haiti still as well) need our prayers.

According to the Bible, as we get closer to the end, more earthquakes are coming (Matthew 24:7; Luke 21:11; Revelation 6:14).

And in terms of magnitude, in the Book of Revelation (also called the Apocalypse) the Bible warns of a time when there will be such a massive earthquake, that every island will be moved (Revelation 6:14).

A reader sent me the following written by James Srodes in February 2010 edition of  the American Spectator:

That particular issue has a photo of US President Obama on the front cover.

While I do not normally quote the American Spectator here (nor read it myself), I will comment that I do agree that the Apocalypse, meaning the Great Tribulation, will NOT start prior to 2013 and most likely not too many years thereafter.

But apparently unlike James Srodes, I do believe that it will happen relatively soon.  Because world events, and many in the USA itself, are aligning with the end-time prophecies of the Bible.

As far as the US economy is concerned, it will have ups and downs, but overall the USA will lose influence as other parts of the world ascend.  For the USA, it will get worse than just ugly.

With all the political drama related to “health” care in the USA the past couple of days, it may be a good time to remind people that Jesus was not a partisan figure the way we now have them.  His message transcended worldly politics and was not about compromises with the world.

Zenit reported the following last night:

Cardinal Sends Birthday Message to Bartholomew I

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 24, 2010 (Zenit.org).- The president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity sent a message to the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

There are several points about the article to consider:

1. Early professors of Christ, including Catholics, did not celebrate birthdays (see Did Early Christians Celebrate Birthdays?).  So perhaps this was not the “Christian” thing to do (hence ecumenical politics would seem to be the most likely reason for this “birthday message”).
2. Cardinal Kasper is often going out of his way in order to try to get unity with the Orthodox–and this will be dangerous for Catholics (see Why Should American Catholics Should Fear Unity with the Orthodox?).
3. Patriarch Bartholomew favors greater unity with Rome,  and speaks against those who are opposed to it (see Patriarch of Constantinople on ecumenical unity and those that oppose it).  Yet, this unity will be dangerous for the Orthodox (see Orthodox Must Reject Unity with the Roman Catholics).
4. Cardinal Kasper does not believe that the Church of Rome has the type of “Apostolic Succession” that most of its members believe that it has (see Cardinal Admits Lack of Early Primacy).  He has sometimes given “traditionalist Catholics” reasons to question his beliefs and positions.
5. If the Malachy prophecies about the remaining popes is correct, there is only one pope left (see Catholic Prophecies: Do They Mirror, Highlight, or Contradict Biblical Prophecies?).  Since Pope Benedict XVI is to turn 83 in April, he may not remain in office for a very long time.  Time would seem to be short.  This is also consistent with biblical dates and calculations (see
   Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?).
6. If other Catholic prophecies are correct, an ecumenical antipope would be the next one (this is discussed in the most detail in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect).
7. There is a high probability that someone supported by the ecumenical Cardinal Walter Kasper will be that pope.  Various Catholics have taught that an antipope would arise (see Archbishop Fulton Sheen and his end time insights remembered).

Jesus told His followers to “watch” (Matthew 24:42; 25:13; Mark 13:33-37; Luke 21:36) world events as they head towards the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.  And there are many events to watch in these end times.

Americas bloc excluding US and Canada agreed

Latin American and Caribbean nations have agreed to set up a new regional body without the US and Canada…

The Cancun summit has also unanimously backed Argentina’s claim over the British-owned Falklands.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8531266.stm

Whether or not this “bloc” will hold, though, is still up in the air.

But it does show that there is a sentiment in the Americas that the USA and Canada are too remote and/or out-of-touch to be part of certain solutions in the rest of the Western Hemisphere.  Ultimately that hemisphere will apparently align with Europe.  The bloc might be a step towards that direction.

The article mentioned the position of the bloc on the Falkland situation.  The Falkland Islands are one of the few remain “sea gates” that the United Kingdom still holds.  Bible prophecy hints that all the sea gates that were gained with blessings from God will be lost because of disobedience–so ultimately the UK will lose them.  I am fairly certain that the Europeans will take control of Gibraltar at some time from the UK.  But it may take some years for one or both of these to happen (though it could be quicker).

Despite the fact that many US officials originally feared Europe’s Galileo satellite-based guidance system was a threat (see US Fears of EU’s Galileo and China’s Space Military), apparently China is now considered so big of a threat that the USA intends to link its GPS system to Galileo:

The U.S. Defense Department is linking its Global Positioning System with Europe’s Galileo, another space-based global navigation satellite system. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN0411054720100205

This move is a major strategic blunder by the USA.  Responding to a perceived threat from China by increasing USA dependence on a European controlled guidance system will be disastrous for the USA.

This was warned about on page 85 in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect:

And while many do not consider that the European Union is much of a military power that perception is likely to change in or after 2013.

Why 2013 or after?

In 2013, the Europeans are planning on having their own global positioning system (GPS), called Galileo, available for military applications.[i] This will allow the Europeans to track the world and attack others without relying on the U.S.A.’s GPS.  This will be the first time in the 21^st century that Europeans will be able to have that type of independent military capability.

Furthermore, according to a 2009 report from the U.S. government, the U.S. Air Force may have to start relying on the European Galileo system (at least to a degree) beginning in 2013, as the U.S. GPS capabilities are expected to deteriorate by then [ii] (other problems are also appearing in the newer U.S. satellites[iii]). Because the Europeans will be able to control Galileo, they will also likely be capable of derailing certain sophisticated U.S. military applications.  This will give the Europeans a unique defensive (as well as offensive) capability that no others on the planet will have.

When I wrote the above, a representative of the USAF said that the US government report was in error.  And that the USA satellite system had no defensive weaknesses.

Now it is becoming clearer that the USA will have a major problem with its GPS system as it is now also going to link it to Galileo.  By linking it to Galileo, this will allow Europeans to be able to block and/or interfere with certain US missile launches.  The consequences of this are likely to be devastating.

The Bible shows that it is a revived European, not Chinese, empire that will be the threat to the USA and its Anglo-Allies.  Yet apparently Pentagon officials do not seem to believe that this is possible.

But it is.  And it will come to pass.

The world is changing and the USA is losing dominance.

Although certain “experts” continue to challenge the historical accuracy of the Hebrew scriptures, archaeologists keep finding evidence that the Bible is in fact, historically reliable.

Dig Supports Biblical Account of King Solomon’s Construction

Even as Muslim spokesmen try to deny Jewish claims to the Holy Land, archaeological discoveries have recently been coming in fast and furious proving the veracity of the Biblical account of history. Hebrew University archaeologists have revealed an ancient path in Jerusalem believed to date back to the time of King Solomon, along with structures including a gateway and the foundation of a building. Dr. Eilat Mazar, the leader of the archaeological dig, said the findings match finds from the time of the First Temple.Arutz Sheva TV’s Yoni Kempinski visited the archaeological dig where the ancient wall was revealed and heard from Dr. Mazar about the importance of the find and its connection to the Biblical description about the time of King Solomon. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/136130

Over time, hopefully all will accept the evidence that the accounts in the Bible are historically accurate.

While most serious Bible believers are not misled by “scientists” that disagree with what the Bible shows, some others are.

Interestingly, even in New Testament times, there is a warning that some will be misled by false scientists:

20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:  21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. (1 Timothy 6:20-21, KJV).

And those that claim to be scientists, but whose “science” does not support the accounts in the Bible should not have their falsely labeled “science” accepted. Archaeology often takes time, and those who wait long enough will realize that the real science always supports the Bible.  And the same is true of biological and other sciences.

And not just now, throughout the centuries, archaeologists keep finding evidence that the Bible is in fact, historically reliable.
