Hiroshima After the Atomic Bomb Was Detonated

Iran might soon have its own nuclear-bomb:

Iran on brink of nuclear capability, report says

(Washington Post)  This story was written by Joby Warrick.Intelligence provided to U.N. nuclear officials shows that Iran’s government has mastered the critical steps needed to build a nuclear weapon, receiving assistance from foreign scientists to overcome key technical hurdles, according to Western diplomats and nuclear experts briefed on the findings.  http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-502223_162-57319469/iran-on-brink-of-nuclear-capability-report-says/

As regular readers of the COGwriter news page are aware, that is not a surprise (see for example the September 26, 2011 post Nuclear Iran in 2012? If So, Saudis May Want Pakistani Nuclear Support).

Russia, who tends to ally with Iran and function as a trading and other partner it, sent out a warning to Israel not to attack Iran:

Russia warns against Israeli air strike on Iran

Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavov has warned that a military strike on Iran would be a “very serious mistake” with “unpredictable consequences”, after Israel’s president Shimon Peres said that an attack was increasingly likely.

Israel owns 300 nuclear missiles, Russia warns Israeli-Iranian war International Middle East Media Center

Of course, if Israel feels that it has no choice, it will ignore the Russian warning.  And while some Protestants seem to feel that Russia and Iran will possibly take over Israel soon, let me state that they are misunderstanding certain prophecies that are in the Old Testament.

The situation in the Middle East is tense.  Iran wants to project enough military power (including nuclear weapons) to persuade the rest of the Islamic world that they should support Iran in its goals.

And what are those goals?

Well, according to a video released in Iran earlier this year (which I watched) it wants to take over Jerusalem, and prepare the way for an Islamic leader, known as the Imam Mahdi to rise up (this is the subject of a March 28, 2011 post, see Iran’s Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem?).  Amongst others leaders, this video has clips of Iran’s President Ahmadinejad as part of it and suggests that he is fulfilling certain aspects of Islamic prophecy.  I also saw Ahmadinejad on television a few years ago explaining that the goal of the Iranian revolution was to prepare the way for the arrival of the Imam Mahdi.

The final pan-national Islamic leader, whether Shi’ite or Sunni Muslim (Iran wants a Shi’ite, but I suspect it is more likely to be a Sunni), seems to be the one that the Bible considers to be the final King of the South (Daniel 11:40)–but that will not end well (Daniel 11:40-43).

With the unrest in Syria, the Arab Spring, and Palestinian statehood being looked at, it may not be a coincidence that Iran wants to have atomic bombs by 2012, as attacking Israel would fulfill some of its stated goals.

Since Iran, however, is NOT really south of Jerusalem, we in the Living Church of God do not believe that it will be the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:4-43). Because of that, I have tended to believe that Iran may somehow get “neutralized” before this final king rises up. And it may be that provoking some type of conflict with Israel (through an attack or through simply possessing nuclear bombs) may result in Israel hitting Iran hard enough militarily to greatly reduce Iran’s influence in the Islamic world.  It also may take a regional war for the seven-year deal in Daniel 9:27 to come about.

Something like this would, thus, allow the other Islamic states (like Saudi Arabia and Egypt) to continue to exist and allow for the rising of the prophesied leader (revolution in Iran, is also another possibility).

We will watch and see (Mark 13:37).

New Scandal: Catholic Church Owns Pornography Publisher

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

COGwriter

The Vatican has a new scandal to deal with:

Germany’s biggest Catholic-owned publishing house has been rocked by disclosures that it has been selling thousands of pornographic novels…with the full assent of the country’s leading bishops.

The revelations made in the publishing-industry newsletter Buchreport concern Weltbild, a company with an annual NZ$3bn turnover and 6,400 employees. It is Germany’s largest bookseller after Amazon and wholly owned by the Catholic Church.

Buchreport revealed that Weltbild’s massive assortment of titles available to customers online includes some 2,500 “erotic” books…

Mr Mller said that in 2008, a group of concerned Catholics had sent bishops a 70-page document containing irrefutable evidence that Weltbild published books that promoted pornography, Satanism and magic. They demanded that the publisher withdraw the titles.

But their protests appear to have been completely ignored…

It emerged yesterday that in an attempt to clear itself of potential embarrassment over the sale of porn, the Catholic Church tried to sell Weltbild in 2009. But the bishops apparently abandoned the idea after they failed to get the price they were asking. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10764039&ref=rss

I edited out the titles of the pornographic books from the above as I felt that they were sufficiently offensive that their names did not need to be repeated here.  Harlots do things of a sexual nature for money and sadly this is what it looks like happened in Germany by officials of the Catholic Church (cf. Revelation 17:4-5).

Note: Lest anyone accuse me of Catholic-bashing for posting about this scandal, I learned of this from the following headline link which was at one of the most popular pro-Catholic sites (NewAdvent) on the internet:

“They’ve know about this for years”: German bishops rocked by porn scandal…

Interestingly, this and other sexual scandals may tie in with a Catholic prophecy about the timing of the coming compromised “Catholic” Great Monarch (who seems to be the same person as the biblical King of the North/Beast):

Ven. Holzhauser (17th century): The Great Monarch will come when the Latin Church is desolated, humiliated, and afflicted with many heresies (Dupont, p. 114).

The recent pedophilia scandals, other sex scandals, and now this pornography/satanism scandal are humiliating the Church of Rome (“the Latin Church”), hence if the above prediction is correct, then we may be very near the time that the “Beast” leader will rise up.

While I do not believe that it is the Vatican’s current intention to support the fulfilling of the prophecies in Revelation 17, the fact of this publishing scandal indicates that some of its current leaders have supported steps in that direction.

Now, the subject of pornography is an important one as various forms of this offense seem to be growing.  And of course, pornography, including what could be considered “soft porn” which is so common in modern media and advertising, is wrong.  Here are a few comments from LCG about it:

Are you a man? Are you plagued with battling vivacious visages of semi-clad women so common in modern-day marketing and entertainment? If so, lend me your undivided attention! If you are struggling with the secret seduction of viewing pornography and want help to conquer this societal scourge…

If God is bringing you to understanding that viewing pornography is sin and if He is revealing to your mind, through the powerful messages you find on Tomorrow’s World, that there is a better way of life – a way that leads to real happiness – then continue to read and study and seek God with all your heart. Read the article, “Pornography: Pleasurable Pastime or Toxic Threat?”

Pornography is wrong.  Publishing books promoting pornography, the occult, and Satanism is wrong.  The German bishops should have known better and should not have to be embarrassed into taking action on this.  They should not have kept the publishing house operating because of money.  The German bishops should have stopped the production of pornography, etc. and not tried to sell it off to someone else.

There are biblical standards that they should know about.

Panetta Weighs Unthinkable Defense Cuts

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

COGwriter

The US Secretary of Defense is considering previously unthinkable cuts in the U.S. defense budget:

Panetta Weighs Military Cuts Once Thought Out of Bounds

By and
Published: November 6, 2011

WASHINGTON — Under orders to cut the Pentagon budget by more than $450 billion over the next decade, Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta is considering reductions in spending categories once thought sacrosanct, especially in medical and retirement benefits, as well as further shrinking the number of troops and reducing new weapons purchases…

Among other steps, Mr. Panetta said, Pentagon strategists were looking at additional cuts in the nuclear arsenal, with an eye toward determining how many warheads the military needed to deter attacks.

Mr. Panetta also held out the possibility of cutting the number of American troops based in Europe, with the United States compensating for any withdrawal by helping NATO allies improve their militaries.  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/07/world/panetta-weighs-military-cuts-once-thought-out-of-bounds.html

If certain other cuts cannot be agreed upon by a special debt panel and the US Congress this month, automatic cuts to defense spending will be required.  Several months ago, President Obama’s Defense Secretary Panetta referred to those automatic cuts as ‘doomsday’ cuts (see ‘Doomsday’ Defense Cuts).  Even if those cuts are not triggered later this year, the reality is that US defense spending is going to be impacted by the US fiscal crisis.

On this defense spending subject, in my 2009 book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect I warned:

Because of domestic economic concerns and international pressures, Barack Obama is shifting priorities away from defense spending… This will help lead to the destruction of the United States, when the Europeans are ready and the U.S.A. is not (Chapter 8).

“Doomsday’ and “out of bounds” cuts in the U.S.’s defense budget are consistent with what the book warned. And that warning was based upon prophecies in Daniel 11:39 and Habakkuk 2, as well as other scriptures. Notice part of how my book discusses one of those passages (the “he” is the European King of the North as my book elsewhere discusses him):

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain.

The two Hebrew words translated as “the strongest fortresses” in verse 39 do not appear together anywhere else in the Bible.

Something is, thus, unique here.

Who has the strongest fortresses?

Looking down in this chapter further, we must eliminate the King of the South, because that king is not attacked until the next verse. We must also eliminate those in the North and East, as they do not get involved until verse 44.

Neither the rest of Africa nor Latin America has anything resembling “the strongest fortresses.”  The strongest fortresses belong to the United States, and to a much lesser degree, its English-speaking allies.

Thus, Daniel 11:39 is describing when the Anglo-English nations are destroyed…

Why America and its Anglo-Allies?

Why would Europe ultimately destroy the U.S.A. and its Anglo-allies?

Because it is the nominally Protestant (as well as religiously diverse) U.S.A. that most stands in the way of the goals of a future single ecumenical religion in Europe to dominate the world.

Only by eliminating the vast bastions of Protestantism and other “heresies” (which several other “Catholic” prophecies seem to show is a goal) that are present in the U.S.A. and its Anglo-allies, can such an ecumenical domination be attained in those lands.

Notice what one “Catholic” has written:

Priest G. Rossi (19th century):  But boastful pride and presumption always go before a fall. With her large share of guilt, America cannot avoid her due share of punishment…If the world is not yet entirely converted to Christianity, the blame is not on the head nor in the conscience of the Catholic Church… Ah ! wretched Protestantism shall have to answer for the loss of faith… English schism and heresy have squandered their treasures and abused their great temporal power, not only in persecuting-the faith in Great Britain and Ireland, but also in banishing the true religion of Jesus Christ from their vast American possessions…Their long-deserved punishment, however, is approaching from the North! [Rossi, pp.16, 255]

So, at least one respected Catholic priest published that a northern power will punish Britain, and its descendants, including  the U.S.A. and Canada, for their “pride” and Protestantism.

The northern power (north of Jerusalem) that the Bible (as the King of the North) and Catholic (the Great Monarch of the revived Holy Roman Empire) prophecy refer to in this context is a European one (the north and east power in Daniel 11:44 represents Russia, China, and their end-time allies).  The “NATO allies” Secretary Panetta referred to are European nations–the Obama Administration wants Europe to arm more and wants the USA to help and encourage Europe to do this.  Instead of heeding proper understanding of biblical warnings, the Obama Administration seems intent on arming a power that ultimately will defeat the USA.

Furthermore over in Europe, once that area is ready (and it will have a religious revival first) I believe that certain non-biblical prophecies will be ultimately used by the coming European Beast power to justify taking over the USA and its Anglo-allies (and these are cited in the 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect book).

World events continue to align with properly understood biblical prophecy.

If you have not already done so, you should consider acquiring the book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect. It is available in several languages, as well as through Kindle and Barnes&Noble.com.

James Malm is Wrong About Prophetic Understanding of Various COGs, 2012, etc.

“Orthodox” 16th Century Representation of the “Apocalypse”

COGwriter

James Malm, an “independent” who has a speculative blog, posted the following today:

Based on the concept that the King of the South is no longer Egypt [with only HWA’s word for this and NO Biblical evidence to support this idea]; United, LCG and others have come up with the idea that Islamic Extremism will increase and become the King of the South.

The above from him is a little misleading.  LCG (Living Church of God) and UCG (United Church of God) both teach that the King of the South may be an Egyptian (though UCG, unlike LCG, also teaches that it could be Iran), and HWA (Herbert W. Armstrong) did not die believing that the King of the South could not be Egypt. Notice what LCG has taught:

Egypt probably will be the King of the South…historically they have been…The King of the South is probably Egypt or possibly Saudi Arabia (Meredith RC. Where are we now in Bible prophecy? Sermon, Charlotte, NC, April 30, 2011)

As far as the King of the South no longer being Egypt, that was not exactly HWA’s position as he had the following published that his son wrote:

The king of the South? EGYPT, of course. But not Egypt of today. Egypt of a few more years from now–Egypt as she continues to expand the U.A.R., bringing more and more of the North Africa Mohammedan nations into the same Afro-Arabian power block! (July 1963 Plain Truth article by Garner Ted Armstrong titled “And when you see the Abomination…”p. 22).

The other point I wish to make is that we in LCG, as well as HWA’s old WCG, believe that a pan-Islamic state will be led by the King of the South:

But who is the “king of the south”?…in verse 40 we skip to “the time of the end”…The verse undoubtedly found partial fulfillment in the offensive of 1896…But Mussolini did not finish the prophecy…Just as there is yet to be a final “king of the north”…there may very well emerge in the same manner a final “king of the south”–an overall leader of an Arab-Moslem confederation, possibly bearing the very title Mahdi…a prophetic psalm (Psalm 83) provides additional insight into the Mideast picture. Germany (Assyria in Bible prophecy) and perhaps the rest of Europe will be in league in the future with a union of Arab nations…But in the end, this European-Arab alliance will prove short-lived…And the king of the north shall come against him [the king of the south]…Daniel 11:40-41…The Arab-Moslem Confederation will, of course, be thrown into chaotic disarray in the fact of invasion. (Stump K. The Arab World in Prophecy. Plain Truth, December 1979, pp. 11-12).

The yearnings across much of the Middle East for a new Saladin—one who will restore Arab glory by conquering the Jews and expelling Western influence—were foreseen by Bible prophecy. In Daniel 11:40, we read of a future “King of the South” who will ultimately “push at” a coming European superpower at the time of the end. This individual, called in Bible prophecy the King of the South because his center of power is south of Jerusalem, will undoubtedly be a charismatic person who will whip up much of the Muslim Middle East into a frenzy against Israel and Europe. (Ogwyn J. Conflict Over the “City of Peace”. Tomorrow’s World magazine, March-April 2002).

But as far as teaching that the King of the South must represent Islamic Extremism that James Malm indicates is not precisely our position.

But the main reason I decided to post about James Malm was because after mentioning UCG, LCG, and PCG, he wrote:

The theory is that Babylon [the King of the North] will fight and defeat Islamic extremism and then [according to their understanding of the 70 Weeks Prophecy] make a seven year treaty with Israel; allowing for a physical sacrifice to take place. After 3 ½ years this treaty will be broken and the tribulation will begin.

This understanding of the 70 Weeks Prophecy is just as old as HWA’s Middle East in Prophecy article; therefore it cannot be correct; because these prophecies were sealed [hidden by God] until the end. This explanation is also contrary to the Scriptures which state that when peace is declared, sudden [immediate] destruction will come, 1 Thes 5:3. Please see the 70 Weeks Error which may be accessed at the Navigation Tabs on this page.

That is the position of most of the Church of God Groups; based on the opinion of Herbert Armstrong written decades ago.

Since James Malm has equated Islamic Extremism with being the King of the South, he is indicating that the King of the North defeats the King of the South prior to a seven-year treaty.  I will not attempt to try to explain what UCG and/or PCG may teach on this as I am not certain.  But as far as LCG, what James Malm indicated is in error.

We in LCG teach that there will first be a a seven-year covenant, which is likely to be or at least include some type of a peace deal that somewhere has a seven-year provision or that at least will be confirmed by a European “prince” for seven years (Daniel 9:26-27).  We in LCG absolutely do not believe that the King of the North will first fight and defeat the Islamic King of the South before making a seven-year treaty with Israel (although we do allow that it may be that the King of the North may increase religious fervor in Europe enough that many of the Muslim faith will leave Europe prior to the time of a seven-year treaty, the seven-year treaty happens prior to Daniel 11:40).

James Malm concluded his post today with the following:

IF 2012 were to be the year then the abomination would be set up in mid Sep 2012.DO NOT BE DECEIVED: ALL THE BIBLICAL SIGNS MUST BE PRESENT BEFORE THE TRIBULATION WILL START!

And while IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE GREAT TRIBULATION WILL START IN 2012 NOR IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE ABOMINATION WILL BE SET UP IN SEPTEMBER 2012, he is correct that all the biblical signs must be present for the Great Tribulation to start–but they are not.

Also, in a 7/28/11 post titled Present Trends and Dating The Tribulation, James Malm stated:

There is a very high likelihood that the tribulation will begin late next year; with the abomination being set up on or near September 16th 2012 with the tribulation beginning on 30 Nov ~ 1 Dec time frame.

I am not setting a solid date here. I am merely pointing out that the signs of the times in the world and in the COGs ,tend to point to next year, or a subsequent year; rather than to 2011.

I do NOT know the exact year!!!

While I am glad he admits that he does not know the exact year, because he clearly does not.  But let me make this as plain as I can, there is absolutely no likelihood that the Great Tribulation will begin next year nor the biblically required abomination of desolation set up that Jesus (Matthew 24:15) mentioned related to a prophecy in the Book of Daniel 11:31.

Daniel the prophet wrote this:

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate. (Daniel 9:27)

Without going into more details, the above is understood by many (including the Living Church of God and the Arroyo Grande, California book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect) to mean that a seven year (one prophetic week) Middle East peace deal is confirmed and that the Great Tribulation will start about 3 1/2 years later.   And that seven-year covenant has simply not yet been confirmed.  And of course, the sacrifices must start before they stop, and they have not started yet (and may not start until well after the seven-year deal is in place).

I have disagreed with James Malm’s dates many times and of course, I have always been correct so far (see Ronald Weinland, Tim Carpenter, & James Malm Erroneous 2009 Predictions AND James Malm Continues to Mislead AND James Malm Wrong Again: The 1335 Days Have Not Begun AND James Malm Now Predicts October 19, 2009 AND LHC, Ronald Weinland, James Malm, and the End AND James Malm Challenges COGwriter AND At Least Two Wrongly Claim Great Tribulation Will Begin in 2008 AND Despite James Malm, No the Great Tribulation CANNOT Begin in 2012) as I believe that the prophetic understanding that I have in the Living Church of God have is more biblically accurate than his opinions. He, of course, disagrees and tends to blog about why he hopes he is right on a regular basis. It is not that he is wrong on everything, but his prophetic understandings seem to be proven to have been unreliable in the past, and I believe still often are in error. Those who follow him should consider his track record–his fruits simply are not pretty.

Although the end is coming soon, it is not now quite the time for the Great Tribulation to being. FWIW, I have traveled to Europe many times in the past few years (my last trip was less than six months ago), and can state that the Europeans are simply not unified enough to be ready to fulfill their role as the supporters of the King of the North – the Final Beast power, yet. But they are looking at proposing peace deals in the Middle East (http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-11-13-voa26.cfm) and are trying to form a powerful empire–but it is not ready yet.

Great Tribulation Cannot Begin in 2011, 2012, 2013, or 2014

Now I have been criticized in the past for pointing out that the “great tribulation” could not begin in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, etc. And several months ago, when I posted the item that the Great Tribulation Cannot Begin Before 2015, I got several emails from people insisting I was wrong.

But I was correct then, and am now.

Why?

Well in addition to the fact that there is no Middle East peace deal that fulfills Daniel 9:27, there still is not yet in place the final leader known as the King of the North. Nor is there a leader yet in place who is the final King of the South (and both of those leaders need to make their own deceitful deal per Daniel 11:27, prior to the start of the Great Tribulation). And while these leaders could be in those positions relatively soon, several of the events that Jesus also said would occur first (Matthew 24:4-14) have not yet been completely fulfilled.

One of the ways that we in the Living Church of God differ from many with current or former COG ties like James Malm is that we believe that Matthew 24:14 still needs to be fulfilled. That passage states:

14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

The above verse is the one just prior to the abomination being set up (Matthew 24:15), and needs to be fulfilled.

While world events leading up to the “great tribulation” are occurring (they are as I report about them frequently, notice Might Kurt Koch become or support the coming “antipope” antichrist? to cite just one example), the final 3 1/2 year countdown has not yet began, hence the great tribulation will not possibly start prior to 2015 (with 2016 probably more likely as the earliest year).

The end is coming. It is coming soon. But the end, meaning the “great tribulation” in this case, cannot possibly begin prior to the year 2015.  And thus, in all due respect to James Malm, there is no way “There is a very high likelihood that the tribulation will begin late next year; with the abomination being set up on or near September 16th 2012” as he posted.  Nor do we in LCG believe that the King of the North will defeat the King of the South prior to a seven-year treaty as he indicates.  James Malm again is in error.

Oklahoma Has its Largest Earthquake Ever and it is Felt in Six States

The US State of Oklahoma was hit by its largest ever earthquake:

5.6 earthquake causes significant damage

FOX 23 – Nov 5, 2011
The USGS says a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Oklahoma just before 11 p.m. Saturday night, the biggest earthquake in Oklahoma history. http://www.fox23.com/news/local/story/5-6-earthquake-causes-significant-damage/UWVm88GEd06RFdXi5h3Nmg.cspx

(CNN) — Crews in central Oklahoma were out early Sunday morning assessing for damage from the largest quake to hit the state since record-keeping began.

The 5.6-magnitude quake struck 4 miles east of Sparks in Lincoln County at 11:53 p.m. ET Saturday.  http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/06/us/oklahoma-earthquake/?hpt=us_c2

.
The quake was reportedly felt as far away as Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas.

Jesus, of course, warned about a time earthquakes and troubles:

8 … And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be…troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

We may be at this prophetic point as all the earthquakes and other problems that have happened in the past year or so could be considered as “troubles.”

Perhaps the earthquake can serve as another wake-up call to people everywhere that the world can change very quickly and that the time to repent is now:

30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)

There are troubles and repentance is needed. Things are going to get much worse than this.

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood Satisfies US Government

Muslim Brotherhood
الإخوان المسلمون
Al-Ikhwān Al-Muslimūn

COGwriter

The Obama Administration is getting a bit more public about its support of the Muslim Brotherhood:

US would be ‘satisfied’ with Brotherhood win in Egypt
Jerusalem Post – Nov 5, 2011
The United States would be “satisfied” should free elections in Egypt produce a victory for the Muslim Brotherhood, AFP reported Friday according to the US’s special coordinator for transitions in the Middle East, William Taylor. http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=244427

This is the same Muslim Brotherhood that supports Hamas (see Muslim Brotherhood’s Egypt’s Goma Amin, Hamas, and the King of the South) and certain other groups that are normally considered to be radical.  The Muslim Brotherhood apparently wants as its top priority a pan-national Islamic caliphate ruled by an Imam. Many Muslims long for the rising up of a leader called the 12th Imam, often referred to as the Imam Mahdi.

Notice what Wikipedia reports about the size of the caliphate that the Muslim Brotherhood wants to accomplish:

In the group’s belief, the Quran and Sunnah constitute a perfect way of life and social and political organization that God has set out for man. Islamic governments must be based on this system and eventually unified in a Caliphate. The Muslim Brotherhood’s goal, as stated by Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna was to reclaim Islam’s manifest destiny, an empire, stretching from Spain to Indonesia.

(It will not end up with Spain if I understand certain aspects of Bible prophecy correctly.)

Notice a translation of what some, who are part of it, write that the Muslim Brotherhood wants:

…the Islamic Ummah [nation] can regain its power and be liberated and assume its rightful position which was intended by Allah, as the most exalted nation among men, as the leaders of humanity…

He [Hassan al-Banna] felt the grave danger overshadowing the Muslims and the urgent need and obligation which Islam places on every Muslim, man and woman, to act in order to restore the Islamic Caliphate and to reestablish the Islamic State on strong foundations and to liberate the Muslims and defend them from any attack, and to spread the Da’wa (Islamic missionary activity) of Islam in the world and to establish this great religion, which Allah wanted for his servants…

Some think that Shahada (Martyrdom) causes loss and damages the [Muslim Brotherhood] Society, since it has lost influential people in action and Jihad. This is wrong, since the fall of the Shahid (Martyr) for the sake of Da’wa (Islamic missionary activity) is [seen as] provisions and fuel for the [next] generations, and as a symbol of self sacrifice in the way of the Da’wa until realization of the goals which the [Muslim Brotherhood] Society was established for, that is, establishing the State of Islam, headed by the Islamic Caliphate, in order to establish Allah religion on Allah’s land…(Source: The Muslim Brotherhood – in its own words Translation of “Jihad is the way” by Mustafa Mashhur Leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, 1996-2002 by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik.  http://www.palwatch.org/STORAGE/special%20reports/Jihad_is_the_way_by_Mustafa_Mashhur.pdf viewed 04/30/11)

Also, notice some of what the Living Church of God has reported about this:

Ultimately, the “Arab Spring” will not produce widespread “Western-friendly” democracy throughout the Mideast! Consider that, after 57 years in exile, the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood is now Egypt’s “best organized political movement” (The New York Times, June 19, 2011). Months after Egypt’s supposed move toward democracy, Egyptian “mobs” are attacking pro-democracy “liberal activists,” while “hundreds of thousands of Islamists” are working toward “transforming Egypt into an Islamic state” (Wall Street Journal, August 2, 2011)! Although many do desire peace, a terrible conflict is brewing, and Muslim fundamentalism is spreading…Scripture reveals that before Jesus Christ’s return, there will be a final war between a “king of the South” (a leader of the Middle Eastern regions now primarily under the sway of Islam) and a false form of “Christianity” dominated by the “king of the North” and a blasphemous “Holy Roman Empire.” (Cieselka W. Islam: At War with Christianity? Tomorrow’s World magazine, Sept-Oct 2011, p. 27)

World events are lining up with the Living Church of God’s understanding of biblical prophecy.

The Muslim Brotherhood itself wants to establish something that would fulfill the prophecies in Daniel 11 about the final King of the South; and it works with groups that have had a history of violence.  The Obama Administration seems to be supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamic groups that are trying to make a pan-Islamic empire come to pass.

Does the Obama Administration understand what it is supporting?

“Orthodox” 16th Century Representation of the “Apocalypse”

COGwriter

In his commentary for today, LCG’s Davy Crockett (a descendant of the famous American with that name) wrote:

Commentary: The Search

By Davy Crockett | Saturday, November 05, 2011…

We have jobs or careers, family responsibilities, school requirements, financial difficulties, all of which have to be dealt with. Though there are blessings along the way, for most people there is also a gnawing emptiness inside. The question, “What is the purpose of it all?” comes to mind in quiet moments. Most of us eventually learn that “things” do not fill the void. Activities and pleasures provide only temporary gratification, and still the question remains, “What happens after I die?” This unanswered question causes much angst and despair for millions of people. Hoping to answer this question, man has come up with a variety of religions and creeds based on different mythic gods and philosophic concepts. Yet these man-made answers do not really satisfy. Even “mainstream Christianity” offers answers that the Bible does not actually support and that do not prove satisfactory.

So, are there any real answers? Yes, there are! There is a trustworthy source, which starts at the beginning and progresses all the way to the end of a great Plan being carried out by the Creator God of the Bible. Those who have understood this Plan—who have discovered the purpose for their existence, and who have learned God’s way of life, not based on man-made traditions—can face life with joy and contentment, even in times of difficulty. Why? Because, like Dr. Frankl, they have come to realize that we as human beings do have a transcendent goal, a great cause and a reason for being—not an invented or temporary one that may leave us disappointed when it fails, but an enduring one that allows us to handle even life’s most challenging trials with focus and purpose.

Jesus Christ offers these comforting words to those who are troubled: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). Those who accept Christ’s invitation, and who make the necessary changes in their lives to take on Christ’s “easy yoke,” will discover for themselves that the true Christian life equips them to handle the frustration and stress that plague our world today. As the Apostle Paul told the Christians in Philippi, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

Are you searching for the meaning of life? Do you long to learn the purpose for which God created you? Read our inspiring and encouraging booklet, Your Ultimate Destiny, to discover what God has in store for those who serve Him. With God’s help, your search will be successful.

Much is going on in the world.  Occupy movement and other protests show the frustration of many–both the frustration of the protesters as well as the frustration of those concerned that the protesters are looking the wrong way for answers, and that it is likely over time, certain protesters will turn violent.

Over in Africa there are various problems, including the following violence from Nigeria:

Dozens killed in northeast Nigeria attacks – witnesses

KANO, Nigeria (Reuters) – Dozens were killed in a spate of coordinated gun and bomb attacks in the northeastern Nigerian city of Damaturu on Friday, leaving the city almost deserted and bodies piling up in local morgues, witnesses said on Saturday…The attacks followed multiple bomb blasts in nearby Maiduguri, making Friday one of the worst days of violence in the northeast since Islamist sect Boko Haram launched an insurgency against Nigerian authorities in 2009, vowing to impose sharia law across the country.

As I have been reporting at COGwriter, the situation in the Middle East is very tense, the economic situation of areas such as North America and Europe are becoming dire, weather and earthquake issues are affecting many areas, religious deception and compromise with sin are  happening all around us.  These are troubles like Jesus warned about:

Take heed that no one deceives you. 6 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. 7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows (Mark 13:5-8).

But, notice:

13…God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

So despite what is happening in the world, even if your personal life is troubled, there is hope in Jesus.

COGWA Reports Feast Attendance

Friday, November 4th, 2011

COGwriter

COGWA (Church of God, a Worldwide Association) reported the following:

We also had a very strong international attendance during the Feast this year. You may not be aware of this, but about 40 percent of our total Church attendance resides outside the United States…The Feast of Tabernacles and Last Great Day capped off an extraordinary year for us…Our highest actual attendance on a holy day in the U.S. this year was 5,002. By including a very conservative estimate of two people per connection for the Webcasts during the Feast of Tabernacles, we calculate that COGWA had a total attendance of around 5,300 in the U.S. and close to 9,500 worldwide.

COGWA was formed out of a split from the United Church of God (UCG) in 2010 (the overwhelming majority of the Latin American ministers and slightly more than 1/2 of the paid US ministry in UCG went with COGWA).  This Feast report suggests that COGWA is probably the second largest COG in terms of attendees.

I have not yet seen a report from UCG about its Feast attendance for 2011.

Syria Continues Crackdown, While 15,000 Supposedly are Readying an Attack Against Assad

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad (Source: Agência Brasil, Wikipedia)

Syria is still cracking down on protesters and this seems to be setting it up for other problems:

‎New York Times – Anthony ShadidHwaida Saad – 4 November 2011
BEIRUT, Lebanon — Syrian forces killed at least 25 people on Friday, opposition groups reported, in a spate of bloodshed…Opposition groups had urged protesters to take to the streets Friday to test the government’s sincerity in what has become a calibrated contest of wills.
.

Under a deal agreed to with the Arab League on Wednesday, the government of Bashar Assad in Syria was supposed to withdraw its military from civilian areas, bringing an end to clashes with protesters that the U.N. says have killed more than 3,000 people since uprising started eight months ago.

Today, however, there are reports of…more dead…

Syria Reduces Oil Production Due To Western Sanctions‎ Energy Tribune

‘15,000 strong’ army gathers to take on Syria

An insurgent army which claims to be up to 15,000 strong is being coordinated from Turkey to take on President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, which risks plunging the region into open warfare.

I suspect that the pressure from Europe, the USA, Syrian protesters, as well as any outside of Syria who hope to attack it may push Syria’s President Assad to agree with Iran and possibly attack Israel.

Yet, if Syria does that, it may regret doing so for the Bible shows that, at some point in time, the Syrian capital of Damascus is doomed:

1 An oracle concerning Damascus:
“See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. 2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid. 3 The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus;the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites,” declares the LORD Almighty. (Isaiah 17:1-3)

In addition to the reported 15,000 strong army, if “rogue” supporters of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad decide to take action against the West for economic sanctions or other reasons, this may upset the West enough that it may directly (through the USA) or indirectly (through Israel) allow massive retaliation against Damascus.

For some time I have felt that Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad may decide that working closer with Iran and supporting its objectives may be the way he feels he can best retain power.

Much is going on in the Middle East.

As Jesus said in Mark 13:37, we all should watch.

Canada Loses 54,000 Jobs

Canada is having job losses:

Wall Street Journal – ‎4 November 2011

OTTAWA—Canada shed a net 54000 jobs in October, the biggest monthly drop since the depths of the global economic crisis, and the latest headwind to buffet one of the most resilient developed economies.
The Canadian dollar edged sharply lower in early deals on Friday following a report showed that Canada’s unemployment rose unexpectedly in the month of October mainly due to layoffs in manufacturing and construction sector.

As I have written before, the USA is not the only Anglo-nation in North America with economic concerns.  Less jobs suggest a slowing of growth and perhaps a contraction in the Canadian economy. Unlike the USA, however, Canada is in a better position to increase its exports relative to its GDP without necessarily having to massively devalue its currency.

Despite having natural resources and many overseas international trading partners, because of its geographic location, its economic history, and what is recorded in biblical prophecy, Canada is tied in with the United States of America.

To a great degree, Canada is expected to share the fate of the USA, which ultimately will not be good (Daniel 11:39; Jeremiah 30:7) until after Jesus returns, when problems like actual slavery, which will have been imposed, will end (Jeremiah 30:8).
