Today is known as “Super Bowl Sunday” in the USA. Most years, the American football (which is not the same as the sport called soccer in the USA) contest known as the Superbowl is the most watched television program in the USA. Between 100,000,000-200,000,000 are expected to intentionally (as opposed to perhaps seeing a news item about it) watch at least some of it today according to various reports.

Since most people in the USA have, at one time or another, made some hint of professing following Jesus, a relevant question may be:

Would Jesus want you to watch the Super Bowl?

Jesus, of course, taught “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39), while the Apostle Paul wrote “no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it” (Ephesians 5:29).

After seeing the injuries that some of my high school football-playing colleagues suffered, I could not reconcile the scriptures with American football. There are better ways for Christians to learn principles like teamwork from other sports or activities than watching actual violence such occurs in American tackle football.

Also, notice what John the Baptist taught soldiers:

14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages. (Luke 3:14, KJV)

I could not reconcile loving my neighbor as myself and cherishing my flesh and not doing violence to any man by watching others do it in a football game. Nor the following:

9…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:9-10, NKJV)

The Super Bowl will do harm to participants in it.

The New Testament also warns Christians against being violent or approving of those that are (Romans 1:28-32), while history records that early Christians would not watch violent sports. Notice one such report from Theophilus of Antioch perhaps written about 180 A.D.:

Consider, therefore, whether those who teach such things can possibly live indifferently, and be commingled in unlawful intercourse, or, most impious of all, eat human flesh, especially when we are forbidden so much as to witness shows of gladiators, lest we become partakers and abettors of murders. But neither may we see the other spectacles, lest our eyes and ears be defiled, participating in the utterances there sung. (Theophilus of Antioch. To Autolycus, Book III, Chapter XV. So, Christians did not believe that they were to watch the violent sports so popular in the second century.

In the 20th century, the late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote:

Competition and not cooperation, is the attitude which Satan inculcates human minds. But that does not mean that all sports are wrong or to be banned. The law of God is based on the way of righteousness…The basic law is love, out flowing toward God above all else, and secondarily, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

To harm the other fellow and to gain by doing so for self is a kind of competition that is wrong. Hostility toward the other is sin…

Wherever a game in sports involves antagonists–in hostile attitude to harm the other and/or to “get” from the other–to get the best of the other then a harmful, satanic and evil attitude enters in, and the sport is evil, not good…

Football (American football) is a violent body-contact sport. It is often played with an attitude of hostility and is dangerous and is fraught with physical injury…Soccer does not embody the same evils. (Plain Truth, July-August 1984)

CNN (01/29/2012) had a report that the average American high school football player received 650 sub-concussion hits per season which increased risk for brain damage of various types.

Since I do not actually watch American football, I do not know how many violent acts are likely at today’s Super Bowl, but the number is likely to be very high, and maybe even a lot more if thoughts of violence are included (cf. Matthew 5:21-22).

In my view, the tackle version of the sport of American football is evil (touch football I would not consider to be inherently evil–though attitude is still a possible factor there). Also, no Christian can really defend how professional football cheerleading females are publicly dressed and displayed–and presumably some of how they will be displayed at today’s Super Bowl game.

As far as violence goes, the Bible shows that God is against violence:

23 ‘Make a chain,
For the land is filled with crimes of blood,
And the city is full of violence.
24 Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles,
And they will possess their houses;
I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease,
And their holy places shall be defiled. (Ezekiel 7:23-24)

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality…30…violent, proud, boasters,…31…unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:28-32)

Do you approve those who practice violence?

Since American football games, like the Super Bowl, intentionally inflict various hurts, the following scripture supports the idea that American football will not be allowed in the Millennium:

9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11:9, NKJV)

While “love does no harm to a neighbor” (Romans 13:9), what do sports like American football do?

Last night, I saw portions of TBN’s Christian World News.  Towards the end, they interviewed players on the teams in today’s scheduled Super Bowl game who professed Christ.  The players, individually, basically stated that their faith was more important than winning the Super Bowl.  But none said that they would renounce violence, not harm others, or not participate in the game because of its negative fruits.

Additionally, of the multitude of groups that profess Christ, it appears that only an actual or relative handful or so will tell their members that they should not be fans of American tackle football.  Sometimes they will not denounce it because their leaders are fans, sometimes because they are afraid that they might looe members and/or money, and sometimes because of all of those reasons.

Would Jesus want you to watch the Super Bowl?  What about the Apostle Paul who warned against approving violence?  The same Apostle Paul who said to imitate him as he imitated Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).  Would Jesus or the Apostle Paul watch the Superbowl as football fans rooting for one team to crush the other team?

Perhaps, some might say. And some may ridicule and/or dismiss what I have written.

If Jesus Himself did watch the Super Bowl, would He watch it and hope that one team would tackle and crash into members of the other team? Or might He watch it, if He did, so He could make social commentary against the violence and/or distorted priorities of the land?

This is something that Christians, and others, should think about.

LATE UPDATE: After posting this, someone sent me the following today:

Former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath, who famously guaranteed a win for his underdog squad in Super Bowl III, revealed the toll that football has taken on him in an interview with CBS scheduled to air on Sunday.

“I’ve been through some things medically. I’ve seen some things on my brain,” Namath told Rita Braver of CBS Sunday Morning in a brief preview of the interview released in advance. “But I’ve had treatment, and I’ve improved. Football causes great harm.  No one has an excuse to pretend otherwise any more as more and more data proves the physical harm that American tackle football causes, especially when played by those considered to be ‘professional.’

The following report claims that the Snowden leaks show that US President Barack Obama has planned a catastrophe to usher in the “new world order” in two weeks:

A grim report circulating in the Kremlin today prepared the by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Ministry of Defense is warning that the assassinations this past week of three top Western bankers coincide with Snowden Documents detailing a 15 February 2014 “catastrophe” being engineered by the Obama regime in order to establish some type of “new world economic order” prior to the coming global meltdown of markets and massive bank failures, some of which have already begun.  http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1735.htm

While I do believe that Barack Obama is apocalyptic (see Prophecies of Barack Obama? and/or watch Barack Obama and the State of the Apocalypse), I do not believe that his Administration has intentionally planned an economic catastrophe for 15 February 2014 to usher in a ‘new world order.’

I did go to the two live links cited as supplying partial validation above.  The GRU (which one I machine translated from Russian to English) said:

Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is the authority of the Foreign Intelligence Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the central organ of intelligence of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

General Directorate solves problems in military, political, military-technical and military-economic and environmental spheres.

If that page mentioned a February 15, 2014 warning it must have been on a different page.

I then went to the Snowden Documents link, which is a link to a page at the Guardian website.  And while that page has information about Edward Snowden, neither that page nor the various site searches I did there reveal any documents that seemed to confirm the story.  Neither of the references the story cited provided proof to me that this was ever part of the Snowden leaks, much less proof that the Obama Administration is really planning on doing this.

The Bible says:

2 “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. (Isaiah 8:12)

Hence, while I can make mistakes, I try to use caution when evaluating various claims of disaster and/or conspiracy.

And although I do believe that Barack Obama is apocalyptic and has taken many steps that are opposed to biblical morality (see Prophecies of Barack Obama? and/or watch Barack Obama and the State of the Apocalypse), I do not have evidence that truly supports that he would be behind knowingly orchestrating a catastrophe for this to happen in two weeks (though I do believe that the “Affordable Care Act,” AKA Obamacare, is essentially an orchestrated catastrophe.  I believe that the intention of many involved with it is to produce a ‘single-payer’ system for medical care in the USA, as many knew what was agreed to as law would face many problems–and more are expected.).

That being said, there are a variety of reports from other sources that there could be currency problems in 2014 and possibly as early as this month.  Notice one from January 30, 2014:

Eric King:  “Gerald, so far this has proceeded exactly as you predicted, with the first taper in December and the second taper here in January.  How bad will this get for the emerging markets?”

I do, at some point, expect riots and civil unrest.

Someone sent me an email with the following forecast from Stratfor (Strategic Forecasting):

Here are a few things we see ahead by 2039:

• The United States will continue to be the leading economic power.
• Conflict in the Middle East will continue, but the United States will take a much more hands-off approach in the region.

As far as the USA and its President go, the moral direction of the country is going in the wrong direction and is leading to disaster in the future. The USA also cannot expect to lead the world economically for that long if it is going to continue to increase its debt–that is not based on any conspiracy but economic fact as well as insight from biblical prophecy (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8). Can those in the USA see the Handwriting on the Wall?

If the 6000 years of God’s 7000 year plan is up before 2039, which I believe it most likely will be (see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?), the USA will be no more before 2039.  Stratfor, like many others, does not base its forecasts in the light of Bible prophecy.

The drought in California is more severe than many have realized:

California’s drought situation has gone from bad to worse as state officials announced Friday water supplies will be cut off to agencies that supply millions of residents.

KCBS calls the move “unprecendented” and reports more than 25 million Californians will have a significant part of their water supply cut. Other resources for parts of California include ground and river waters.

According to KTTV, the State Water Project is cutting out its water distribution for the first time in its history in a move to conserve the little water it has left as the state’s drought continues to get worse.

This cutback means Californians will still have drinking water, but they’ll be getting it from different sources.

Even though it was the law, the State of California decided not to appeal or defend Proposition 8, a voter initiative banning homosexual marriage.  Some of the voters who initially instigated Proposition 8 then appealed to the Supreme Court, which heard oral arguments on March 26, 2013. The Supreme Court dismissed the case for lack of standing in a decision issued June 26, 2013, which in essence meant that the will of the voters were ignored and homosexual marriage was to be allowed to continue.  Also on that same date, the US Supreme Court overturned the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which encouraged other states to implement homosexual marriages (see Russia calls Obama President of Sodom and Gomorrah and the US Supreme Court ruling on homosexuality today confirms it).

Last summer, a massive heat wave hit the USA shortly thereafter.

Might there be a correlation between the current drought and other weather problems and trend for legal acceptance of the homosexual agenda in the USA and other Anglo-Saxon lands?

It seems so.

What does the Bible teach?

The Bible, in several places, ties weather issues to Sodom and Gomorrah, cities that were destroyed for sins such as their sexual immorality:

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6)

23 ‘The whole land is brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’ 24 All nations would say, ‘Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?’ 25 Then people would say: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers…(Deuteronomy 29:23-25)

Notice also the following scriptures from the Book of Amos:

7 “I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

“I blasted you with blight and mildew. (Amos 4:7-9)

As the above shows, the Bible teaches that God uses weather problems to warn people to repent.

Will weather problems cause people to turn to God? Or will they be determined to continue to turn further away from biblical morality?

People who advocate acceptance of homosexuality as harmless may also wish to notice something else that God had the prophets Amos and Jeremiah write would happen some time after the drought and weather problems:

11 “I overthrew some of you,
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!” (Amos 4:11-12)

38 A drought is against her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is the land of carved images, And they are insane with their idols. 39 “Therefore the wild desert beasts shall dwell there with the jackals, And the ostriches shall dwell in it. It shall be inhabited no more forever, Nor shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation. 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah And their neighbors,” says the Lord, “So no one shall reside there, Nor son of man dwell in it. (Jeremiah 50:38-40)

So, both Amos and Jeremiah tied the warning of a drought in with later being over thrown like Sodom and Gomorrah–and remember the Bible says that Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown as examples for those who would go after “strange flesh” (2 Peter 2:6).

God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah for their pride and acceptance of homosexuality (see also The Bible Condemns Homosexuality). If the Anglo-nations do not repent of the direction that they are going, they will be overthrown relatively soon! People who profess to believe the Bible need to take a stand against those who advocate homosexuality and other behaviors that the Bible condemns.

The sorrows and troubles are just beginning and will get much worse. Hopefully, people will wake up.  The State of California is taking carnal steps, but those will not fix the cause.  And while God may end the drought, the Bible shows that He sometimes does use weather as a warning.  California, and certain other lands, in my view, are being warned.

Montana State Senator Ryan Zinke has called Hillary Clinton the Antichrist:

WASHINGTON — Ryan Zinke, a former Navy SEAL and state senator who is now running for Congress in Montana, said during a campaign stop this week that he is worried the country is losing sight of the real threat to the nation: Hillary Clinton. “We need to focus on the real enemy,” said Zinke on Monday, referring to Clinton, according to the Bigfork Eagle. Zinke said he supports work visas for illegal immigrants, who he said currently number 25 million. “The right path is work visas and make sure a border is controlled.” He supports requiring citizens to be fluent in English. “It infuriates me when driver’s license tests are in 15 different languages,” he said.

It was only last Sunday, January 26, 2014 that I wrote an article (not just a news post) about Hillary Clinton titled Hillary Clinton in Prophecy.  Less than a week later, a state senator has declared Hillary Clinton the Antichrist, presumably meaning the final Antichrist.

Anyway, here is what I wrote about Hillary Clinton not being the final Antichrist last Sunday:

Is Hillary Clinton the Antichrist?

No.

The final Antichrist will be a man (cf. Revelation 13:11-18).

Also, because the final Antichrist is a primarily a religious (as opposed to primarily political) leader (according to the only verses in the Bible that use the term “antichrist”), Hillary Clinton is not the final Antichrist. Notice, for example the following which ties false prophets in with Antichrist:

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. (1 John 4:1-3)

However, because of her international influence she may well help the rise of the future final Beast leader of Revelation 13, who is the final King of the North of Daniel 11 and the final Antichrist.  And Hillary Clinton may help enable the rise of the influence of those men as well as the future King of the South.

Now, in that same article (Hillary Clinton in Prophecy), I did list many concerns I have about Hillary Clinton including those involving scandals and statements she has made.  Notice a section related to certain moral positions:

Hillary Clinton has taken staunch, pro-abortion stances:

Wade.  I also believe that abortion should be safe, legal and rare and that the government should do much more to support women so that the right guaranteed in our constitution is exercised in rare circumstances…

Although she originally claimed she opposed homosexual marriage, Hillary Clinton changed her view to become a public advocate of it. Notice a report on her views in 2013:

These are her first comments backing gay marriage since leaving the State Department, and they could potentially hint at her 2016 ambitions. (After President Obama, Vice President Biden, and other Democrats have endorsed gay marriage, it’s likely that the future Democratic nominee — in 2016 and beyond — will have to back it.)

“I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples,” Clinton says in the video. “I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law embedded in a broader effort to advance equality and opportunity for LGBT Americans and for all Americans.”

She continues, “Like so many others, my views have been shaped over time by people I have known and loved, by my experience representing our nation on the world stage, my devotion to law and human rights, and the guiding principles of my faith.” (Murry M. Hillary Clinton’s professed ‘faith’ is supposed to be Protestant Christian (specifically United Methodist). Notice some of what the New Testament teaches about homosexuality, lesbianism, and approving it:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man — and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. (Romans 1:18-32)

Whatever faith that Hillary Clinton has, apparently she does not believe that the passage in Romans above is intended to be taken literally.

While I do not believe Hillary Clinton’s statements make her a candidate for the final Antichrist, some of her statements are clearly anti-Christ, and I do believe that she is apocalyptic.

Because she is a woman and because of her stances on abortion, homosexual marriage, and other cultural issues, Hillary Clinton may be apocalyptic in the sense she is one who is taking stances that will lead to the apocalypse/Great Tribulation.

How may Hillary Clinton be “apocalyptic”? Here are 7 possible reasons why:

1. Since the Roe vs. Wade pro-abortion decision, the USA has became the greatest debtor nation in the history of humankind. Since the USA owes alien nations trillions of dollars, it appears that the curse in Deuteronomy 28:44 of having to borrow from aliens is happening to it now. Hillary Clinton supports the Roe vs. Wade decision (see also Anglo – America in Prophecy).
2. The Bible specifically warns about women ruling over a nation (Isaiah 3:12).
3. Her position on homosexual marriage is destructive (Romans 1:18-32).
4. She has indicated that she will increase additional regulatory burdens (cf. Matthew 23:3-5) and legal changes that reduce the amount of freedom that U.S.A. citizens once had.
5. Her mistatements and ‘memory lapses’ in various scandals suggest that she is not always honest. And this may cause people to groan (Proverbs 29:2).
6. She has not taken a stand against ‘quantitative easing’ and, despite certain statements about debt, she has supported policies that have increased the debt of the USA–this is dangerous (Habakkuk 2:6-8).
7. The Great Tribulation cannot begin until at least 2017, and that could be a year that Hillary Clinton could become president, she may take military, economic, cultural, and other steps that could lead to it if in office then (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2014, 2015, or 2016? you can also see the video The Great Tribulation Will Not Begin Before 2017). Her timing could be close to the end of the 6000 years before the start of the Great Tribulation (see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? The truth is that Hillary Clinton often seems well meaning. Americans are so concerned about the economy and how they perceive their personal needs that most do not care that some of the policies that Hillary Clinton has advocated has encouraged other sins in this nation.

Although Hillary Clinton , of herself, personally will not cause the end of the world, she has taken steps that will help lead to the end of the world as we know it–she has taken steps that will help lead to the Great Tribulation. And that will not be good for the United States.
