Revealing Satan

2 Thessalonians 2 records a spectacular end-time event in God’s Church. There is nothing like it in all the previous history of the Church!

“And now ye know what [restrains] that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now [restrains] will [restrain], until he be taken out of the way” (verses 6-7).

God has given the Philadelphia Church of God amazing understanding about this verse. On Jan. 16, 1986, a man was taken out of the way. From time to time, God reminds us how important the anniversary of that day is. We can read these scriptures and point out the specific individuals they refer to. What other church can do this?

“And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming” (verse 8). Verses 3-4 say the man of sin will be revealed, but verse 8 specifically says this Wicked (Satan) will be revealed as well.

“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders” (verse 9). There are signs, lying wonders and power coming from the devil…

The court battle we fought against the Worldwide Church of God to gain the copyrights to Herbert Armstrong’s writings has been a gold mine of information about the devil…

In our court proceedings, Joe Tkach Jr. gave two depositions…

Tkach: “When someone tells you that they’re being used by God in a way that no other human being who has ever lived is being used, I would consider that to be a bit on the heresy side, to say that he received a message from God and then won’t share it with you.”

None of this happened. Mr. Tkach Jr. knew he was lying! … He tried to picture me as a weird prophet you see in Hollywood movies…

When I sat listening to those words during the deposition, I didn’t understand what those lies were all about. But God later revealed to me what it all meant. God always has to reveal these truths to us.

2 Thessalonians 2:4 says this man of sin “Opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”…

I don’t think Joe Tkach Jr. really understood what he was saying or from whom he got these lies. It was Satan talking to us…

“For the mystery of [lawlessness] doth already work: only he who now [restrains] will [restrain], until he be taken out of the way” (verse 7). That “mystery of lawlessness” was there before the man of sin came on the scene. Revelation 3:7-9 call it the synagogue of Satan. The devil was plotting and planning even while Mr. Armstrong was alive. He inspired and directed a group of people to get ready to take over the Church of God. And he succeeded!

The icc says, “[A]s the indwelling Christ works in Paul, so Satan operates in the [man of sin] with the result that his advent is attended by all power to work wonders.”

2 Thessalonians 2:8 shows that the work of Satan will be destroyed, but verse 9 reveals that, first, the man of sin will have “all power and signs and lying wonders.” This is what Joe Tkach Jr. said about me! What a lying wonder! It came right out of 2 Thessalonians 2.

Like false prophet Ronald Weinland, Gerald Flurry is much too much into allegory.  Whether or not Joe Tkach, Jr. lied, this does not qualify as the “signs and lying wonders” that the Apostle Paul was warning about.

Now, this is not a new teaching of PCG, just a somewhat changed one.  In his book, Malachi’s Message (1995 edition), in the chapter titled “Man of Sin,” Gerald Flurry wrote:

God’s Church has applied 2 Thessalonians 2:4 to the world for the most part. But it doesn’t apply to the world…

“Even him [the “son of perdition”], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders” (2 Thessalonians 2:9). The word “signs” is rendered “pretended signs” by the Revised Standard Version. This “son of perdition” is heavily influenced by Satan…In 2 Thessalonians 2, Paul discusses signs and lying wonders of a false leader or lying apostle (Revelation 2:2)…

Mr. Tkach was an innermost disciple—more so than other Church leaders—in those last seven years of Mr. Armstrong’s life. The leadership discussed in 2 Thessalonians 2 must be in Pasadena today. (pp. 79,88,89,99)

But this false leader was not J. Tkach Sr. who Gerald Flurry originally identified in a previous edition of that book. Nor was it anyone who was part of the Tkach Administration in Pasadena in 1995, such as J. Tkach, Jr. who Gerald Flurry later decided to identify as the man of sin. Furthermore, as I mentioned, the type of signs and lying wonders that the Apostle Paul referred to have not accompanied any in the Tkach Administration.  While we may suspect who the ‘man of sin’ is, his identification has not yet been accompanied with signs and lying wonders.  Since lying is very common, the Apostle Paul was not simply referring to someone who lied about something–signs and lying wonders are more unique than than.

And while many COGs do not understand who the ‘man of sin’ in 2 Thessalonians 2 is (and because of this they will not understand certain end time prophecies), Gerald Flurry may have the most absurd explanation of his alleged identity.

Those who do not know who the ‘man of sin’ is will not realize that certain end time prophecies are being fulfilled when they are. Because they will not recognize him, they will not be able to properly warn their people nor the world what is happening. Those who do not know the identity of the man of sin are most likely not going to be protected from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world (cf. Revelation 3:10; 12:14-17).

Jesus only promised to protect the true Philadelphians from that (Revelation 3:7-10) and not those who simply call themselves that (cf. Revelation 3:9). Most in the various COG groups do not know the proper identity of the man of sin. Since most Christians in the end are not truly part of the Philadelphia remnant of the Church of God, they will not be protected–but end up being subject to Satan’s wrath per Revelation 12:17.

Although Gerald Flurry seems to be mainly relying on his own imagination, most others are relying on improper tradition as opposed to what the Bible teaches.  Those who wish to understand what the Bible teaches on this, should study the article Who is the Man of Sin of 2 Thessalonians 2?

The USA has reportedly filed charges Chinese officials for engaging in cyber crime:

The Justice Department has filed criminal charges against several Chinese government officials, accusing them of stealing American trade secrets through cyber espionage, according to U.S. officials familiar with the case.

It’s the first time the United States has brought hacking charges against a state actor…

The charges will name several individuals who are Chinese government employees, according to a U.S. official. “They used military and intelligence facilities to commit cyber espionage against U.S. companies,” the official said…

The Obama administration has long considered China the most aggressive nation in obtaining industrial secrets through spying.

“Chinese actors are the world’s most active and persistent perpetrators of economic espionage,” said the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive, a U.S. government agency, in a 2011 report.  http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/u-s-charges-china-cyber-spying-american-firms-n108706

John Carlin, recently installed as head of the Justice’s National Security Division, earlier this year cited prosecution of state-sponsored cyber-threats as a key goal for the Obama administration.

U.S. officials have accused China’s army and China-based hackers of launching attacks on American industrial and military targets, often to steal secrets or intellectual property. China has said that it faces a major threat from hackers, and the country’s military is believed to be among the biggest targets of the NSA and U.S. Cyber Command.

Last September, President Barack Obama discussed cybersecurity issues on the sidelines of a summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

White House spokesman Ben Rhodes said at the time that Obama had addressed concerns about cyber threats emanating from China. While I do not doubt that Chinese officials have been engaged in cyber espionage related to USA based organizations, there are a couple of issues here of potentially economic and prophetic interest.

First of all, the Chinese lend the USA lots of money.  One US government report said it was around USD1.1 trillion ($1,100,000,000,000).  If the Chinese attempt to redeem this at once, it could negatively affect the USA.  It may well be that the officials that the USA is targeting are some that the current President of China, Xi Jinping, wants removed (he has an anti-corruption campaign) so that China will not take any serious public steps against the USA for this.

Since China holds over a trillion dollars in US Treasuries, it could cause economic disruption to the USA any time it wishes.  The hope in Washington is that China will not do this as it would hurt its own economy.  But China does with to dethrone the USA (see also China calls for ‘de-Americanisation’ of the world and points to USA debt crisis).

Interestingly, one foreign creditor, China, has raised concerns about the U.S. debt that are so serious,  that its potential dumping of that debt has been called China’s “nuclear option” (Gertz B,  China Debt Threat.  Washington Times, March 2, 2011) against the U.S.A.—an option that involves no military intervention, but that could greatly harm the U.S.A. The Bible clearly warns against cheapening the money supply and encourages having it hold its value (Proverbs 25:4 Isaiah 1:25, Ezekiel 22:18-22).  Barack Obama’s policies, following certain other administrations, have ignored these warnings.

And while China will not yet drop what it has called its ‘nuclear option,’ the reality is that China wants the USA to be pushed down and is taking steps to help make that happen.  And the USA is letting it.  The debt situation in the USA is ultimately going to lead to massive disaster (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).

But the point I wanted to focus on is that the USA is being a bit hypocritical.

The USA spies on almost everybody. And since the Snowden leaks, almost everybody has been made aware of this.

One of the reasons that the Germans are upset with the USA is that not only does the USA spy more on Germany than most other nations, it also conducts industrial/commercial espionage against Germany.  Germany’s Angela Merkel has repeatedly asked the USA not to do this (see Chancellor Merkel meeting with Barack Obama: Germans disgruntled with USA), but without the degree of success she wants.  This caused the German parliament to ask to speak with whistle-blower Edward Snowden (see Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg on CNN tells of selective anti-Americanism growing in Germany) and is leading to an increase of anti-American sentiment in parts of the German establishment that historically has not voiced those sentiments (see Germany wants to talk with Edward Snowden).  Because of German mistrust of the USA, some have called for a stronger Europe (see Der Spiegel: Germans cannot trust USA, so the answer is European prominence)–and this is something that the Bible warns about (e.g. Daniel 11:36-43).

In the past, the USA has been accused of hypocrisy related to its cyber and other espionage.  The Bible warns that the Germans (called Assyria in certain end time prophecies) will end up destroying “an hypocritical nation.”

Notice:

5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?  (Isaiah 10:5-8, KJV)

Notice that the Assyrian goes against a hypocritical nation.  Is not the so-called “land of the free” and “home of the brave” being hypocritical when it has to spy on everyone and everything it practically can?  Is it not hypocritical when it tells so-called ‘developing nations’ to get out of debt and pay debt back, while it continually increases its own?

This does not bode well for the USA.  Nations will gang up against it.  Ultimately, despite its military strength, it will be taken over (Daniel 11:39).  Partially, because of its hypocrisy (Isaiah 10:6-8).

Many believe that the Apostle Paul somehow did away with the Ten Commandments, but is that what the Bible teaches? What did the Apostle Paul actually teach about them?

There is only one only scripture that uses the “nailed it to the cross” expression (AV/NKJ), it is Colossians 2:13-14, in which Paul states, “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross“. Were the ten commandments the “requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us”? Let us examine the scriptures to see.

Commandment 1: Paul said, “God, who made the world and everything in it…they should seek the Lord” (Acts 17:24,27). Paul also said, “I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law” (Acts 24:14). “But then indeed, when you did not know God, you served those things which by nature are not God” (Galatians 4:8). “And what agreement has the temple of God have with idols?” (II Corinthians 6:16). “you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God” (I Thessalonians 1:9). “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4).

Commandment 2: “we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols” (Acts 15:20). “Now while Paul waited for them in Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols…Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said…’God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshipped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything‘” (Acts 17:16,22,24-25). “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man–and birds and four footed animals and creeping things” (Romans 1:22-23). “But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is…an idolater” (I Corinthians 5:11). “Neither… idolators…will inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:9-10). “And do not become idolaters as were some of them…Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry” (I Corinthians 10:7,14). “And what agreement has the temple of God have with idols?” (II Corinthians 6:16). “Now the works of the flesh are evident…idolatry” (Galatians 5:19,20). “For this you know that no…idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God” (Ephesians 5:5). “Therefore put to death…covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5). “you turned to God from idols” (I Thessalonians 1:9).

Commandment 3: “they are all under sin…Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness” (Romans 3:9,14). “Let all…evil speaking be put away from you” (Ephesians 4:31). “But now you yourselves are to put off all …blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth” (Colossians 3:8). “they may learn not to blaspheme” (I Timothy 1:20). But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be…blasphemers” (II Timothy 3:1,2).

Commandment 4: “Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures…And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks” (Acts 17:2;18:4 see also 13:14,27,42,44). “let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need” (Ephesians 4:28) and “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: ‘If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat‘” (II Thessalonians 3:10); (recall that the requirement to work is also part of the Sabbath command, thus even that portion of the commandment is repeated in the New Testament.) “And to whom did He swear they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?” (Hebrews 3:18). “For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: ‘And God rested on the seventh day from all His works’” (Hebrews 4:4). “There remains therefore a rest (literally sabbatismos, ‘Sabbath rest’) for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His” (Hebrews 4:9-10).

Commandment 5: “being filled with all unrighteousness…disobediant to parents” (Romans 1:29,30). “Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’, which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth” (Ephesians 6:1-3). “the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience” (Colossians 3:6). “Children obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord” (Colossians 3:20). “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be…disobediant to parents” (II Timothy 3:1,2).

Commandment 6: “being filled with all unrighteousness…murder” (Romans 1:29). “You shall not murder” (Romans 13:9). “Now the works of the flesh are evident…murders” (Galatians 5:19,21). “the lawless and insubordinate…murders…manslayers” (I Timothy 1:9).

Commandment 7: “being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality” (Romans 1:29). “So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress” (Romans 7:3). “You shall not commit adultery” (Romans 13:9). “But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral” (I Corinthians 5:11). “Neither… adulterers, nor homosexuals…will inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:9-10). “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body” (I Corinthians 6:18). “Nor let us commit sexual immorality as some of them did” (I Corinthians 10:8). “Now the works of the flesh are evident…adultery, fornication” (Galatians 5:19). “For this you know that no fornicator…has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God” (Ephesians 5:5). “the lawless and insubordinate…fornicators…sodomites” (I Timothy 1:9,10). “fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrews 13:4).

Commandment 8: “You shall not steal” (Romans 13:9). “nor thieves…will inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:10). “I have been…in perils of robbers” (II Corinthians 11:25-26). “Let him who stole, steal no longer” (Ephesians 4:28).

Commandment 9: “You shall not bear false witness” (Romans 13:9). ‘I do not lie” (Galatians 1:19). “Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each of you speak truth with his neighbor” (Ephesians 4:25). “Do not lie to one another” (Colossians 3:9). “the lawless and insubordinate…liars…perjurers” (I Timothy 1:9,10). “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy” (I Timothy 4:1-2). “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be…slanderers” (II Timothy 3:1,3). “God, who cannot lie” (Ti 1:2). “it is impossible for God to lie” (Hebrews 6:18).

Commandment 10: “being filled with all unrighteousness…covetousness” (Romans 1:29).”You shall not covet” (Romans 7:7). “You shall not covet” (Romans 13:9). “But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is…covetous” (I Corinthians 5:11). “nor covetous…will inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:10). “we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted” (I Corinthians 10:6). “you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). “For this you know that no fornicator…nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God” (Ephesians 5:5). “Therefore put to death…covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5). “For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness” (I Thessalonians 2:5). “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have” (Hebrews 13:5).

Notice that Paul clearly warns about not keeping each of the ten commandments.

Paul also wrote “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins” (Hebrews 10:26). He also warned that those who break various of the ten commandments will not inherit the kingdom of God (Ephesians 5:4-5) and then said, “Let no man deceive you with empty words, for because of the things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them” (Ephesians 5:6-7).

Some have been confused about some of Paul’s writings, but as Peter warned, “Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of the things in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the scriptures” (II Pet 3:15-16). Perhaps the most confusing to some is, “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle the wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity” (Ephesians 2:14-16).

It is clear that Paul could not be talking about the ten commandments as he mentions parts of at least eight of them as still being in existence in the same book (see above, the other two are alluded to as well, Ephesians 5:31–anger, which is like murder according to Jesus; plus the comment about being a prisoner of the Lord also would show the first commandment, Ephesians 4:1)

While some may try to reason around what Paul wrote, it is a fact that early Christians did believe that they needed to keep the Ten Commandments (for detailed proof, see The Ten Commandments and the Early Church). And real Christians believe that today.

Iran wants enough nuclear materials at one of its plants that the West fears it could turn into nuclear bombs:

(Reuters) – Iran appeared to take a harder line in its nuclear dispute with world powers on Sunday by dismissing as “ridiculous” one idea that could allay Western concerns about a planned atomic research reactor.

The fate of the heavy-water reactor at Arak, which has not yet been completed, is one of several thorny issues in talks between Iran and six powers aimed at reaching a long-term deal on Tehran’s nuclear program by an agreed July 20 deadline.

“It is ridiculous that the power of the (Arak) reactor would be cut from 40 megawatts to 10 megawatts”, nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghchi said, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Western powers fear the Arak plant – 250 km (150 miles) southwest of Tehran – could provide a supply of plutonium – one of two materials, along with highly enriched uranium, that can trigger a nuclear explosion – once operational.

Iran says it would produce isotopes for medical treatments, and denies any of its nuclear work is aimed at making a bomb.

Having followed a lot of events in Iran for a long time, I believe that Gareth Porter is being a bit naive.  Iran does have militaristic and nuclear ambitions.

Many in the international community are justifiably concerned that Iran has a militaristic agenda. It was reported that many years ago, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei endorsed getting nuclear weapons to help set the way for a leader commonly referred to as the Imam Mahdi to arrive (Khamenei Has Claimed Iranian Nuclear Weapons Need for the Arrival of the 12th Imam).

Iran put out a video a few years ago, basically telling the Arab world that it intends to takeover Jerusalem and give it to this Imam Mahdi.  The video indicates that this will be by military conquest by the Iranians against the Israelis and that it wants the Arab nations to back it (see Iran’s Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem?)

Last week, the United Nations voiced concerns that Iran may be circumventing sanctions and agreements in order to procure materials that could potentially be used to make nuclear weapons (see UN: Iran may still be procuring nuclear materials).

Iran also recently announced that it had its own stealth drones as it allegedly copied a US stealth drone that it captured a couple of years ago (see Iran announces drone and claims ‘America’s nightmare has become reality’).

The top leadership of Iran has a Shi’ite Muslim agenda, which they have concluded includes causing chaos and war. Iran’s last president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, publicly stated that the purpose of the Iranian revolution was to prepare the way for an Islamic leader, the Imam Mahdi (also called the the 12th Imam) to rise up (this was several years ago, but he still seems to believe it) and, amongst other things, control Jerusalem. Year ago Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed that the Imam Mahdi was behind the ‘Arab Spring’ revolutions in the various Arab lands as well as other events in the world (see Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: World Order About to Collapse, Mahdi Behind it). Iran’s current president, Hassan Rouhani, even credited the Imam Mahdi for his own election last Summer (see Iran’s President-elect wants to negotiate with the USA and credits the ‘Islamic messiah’ for his election).

This Imam Mahdi sounds a lot like the final King of the South that the Bible warns against (though the actual one that many Shi’ites expect from “suspended animation” is not likely to be that King, but a Mahdi belief will likely be a factor in getting the final King of the South).

I, for one, do not believe that Iran’s leaders have given up on their goals of Islamic domination–and they do want nuclear and other weapons. But if they significantly act militarily with them (cf. Isaiah 22:1-14), it ultimately will not turn our well for Iran (e.g. Jeremiah 49:34-38).

Newly discovered documents show that in the years after World War II, former members of the Nazi Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS formed a secret army to protect the country from the Soviets. The illegal project could have sparked a major scandal at the time.

For nearly six decades, the 321-page file lay unnoticed in the archives of the BND, Germany’s foreign intelligence agency — but now its contents have revealed a new chapter of German postwar history that is as spectacular as it is mysterious.

The previously secret documents reveal the existence of a coalition of approximately 2,000 former officers — veterans of the Nazi-era Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS — who decided to put together an army in postwar Germany in 1949. They made their preparations without a mandate from the German government, without the knowledge of the parliament and, the documents show, by circumventing Allied occupation forces…

It is currently unknown exactly when the secret army disbanded, as no fuss was made at the time. Schnez died in 2007 without ever stating anything publicly about these events. His records on the “Insurance Company” have disappeared. What is known stems largely from documents relating to the Gehlen Organization that made their way into the classified archive of its successor, the BND.

The position of the old Radio Church of God was that there had been a secret German army and its plans also included making Germany rise up again.  Although it is believed that the secret army may have been abandoned some years back, some of their descendants still hold nationalistic views and want Germany to rise again.

United Nations and Vatican Are Planning the New World Order

The web sites for two conferences held this month in Virginia now feature the videos of the keynote addresses presented there, including those given by Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, preacher of the Pontifical Household…

Deacon Darrell Wentworth, a liaison for the Catholic Fraternity’s North American Regional Communities, was the organizer of the Pastors, Leaders, Clergy Summit 2014 and the Awakening the Domestic Church conference.

The Catholic Fraternity, an ecclesial community given juridical personality by Saint John Paul II in 1990, works in collaboration with the Pontifical Councils for the Laity and Promoting Christian Unity.

In 2010 Cardinals Stanislaw Rylko and Paul Cordes, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, and retired president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, respectively, encouraged the Catholic Fraternity’s communities to engage more fully in the Church’s efforts toward the New Evangelization and full communion of the Christian churches…

Below is an interview with a participant in the Pastors, Leaders, Clergy Summit, Dr. Dale Coulter. Dr. Coulter is an Associate Professor of Historical Theology at Regent University’s School of Divinity.

ZENIT: From the Pentecostal perspective, how do you approach the ecumenical movement?

Dr. Coulter: Individual Pentecostals have been involved in the ecumenical movement since the 1960s when David Du Plessis heard the Holy Spirit tell him to get involved. The official bilateral dialogue between Catholics and Pentecostals began in 1972 and continues to this day. While the ultimate goal of the ecumenical movement is visible unity, that goal is a long way off. Right now the two realizable goals are 1) mutual understanding and 2) common mission.

From a Pentecostal perspective this can be achieved through an exchange of gifts that I would say occurs when Pentecostals receive the gift of the sacramental dimension from Catholics and Catholics receive the gift of the charismatic from Pentecostals. Before we can even discuss visible unity, we need to discuss how to live together as brothers and sisters in Christ and fellow participants in the communion of the saints.

ZENIT: Could you further explain how you view this exchange of gifts, practically speaking? What do you understand by the ‘gift of the sacramental dimension’ for Pentecostals? And how do you think Catholics should receive the ‘gift of the charismatic?”

Dr. Coulter: Ecumenism begins to work when each side re-discovers something about itself or discovers an implication of its theology. Ecumenism can never succeed if one side is just trying to make the other into a clone as it were. Successful ecumenism happens through relationships that are established at the local level, which then generate friendships as well as through dialogues that occur at the formal and informal levels.The first step of those friendships is to learn the language of the friend–the family speak. This helps overcome stereotypes and caricatures. That was one of the goals behind the Clergy Summit…

ZENIT: Will the ecumenical movement ever “get anywhere” and if so, what factors need to come into play?

Dr. Coulter: I remain hopeful about the ecumenical movement even though there are conflicting signs right now. The breakup of mainline Protestantism over the moral issues suggests an ecumenical winter. When one adds to this the way in which geo-politics will impact the Orthodox churches, especially the situation in Russia and the Ukraine, the prospects do not look good. It suggests more fracturing rather than any coming together. At the same time, the spirituality being facilitated in and through the charismatic movement coupled with numerous Catholic/Protestant initiatives show signs of a potential spring. In addition, the Ecumenical Patriarch has called for a pan-Orthodox council and preparations are being made.

Given this state, what can we do:

These ecumenical meetings and plans are dangerous.

Few people realize how fast the ecumenical movement is moving.  While some, even amongst the Eastern Orthodox have publicly opposed it (see Greek Orthodox Bishops denounce Pope Francis, Church of Rome, and Ecumenism as Antichrist Plan of Freemasons), others have embraced it. So much so, that the Eastern Orthodox agreed to their first “ecumenical council” in over a thousand years earlier this year (see Orthodox agree to eighth ecumenical council: If Orthodox prophecy is correct on it, this council marks a major step towards the end!), which is to take place in 2016.

Earlier this year, Charismatic Kenneth Copeland agreed to it (see Protestant endorsement of the ecumenical agenda: Kenneth Copeland do you not understand? and/or watch Charismatic Kenneth Copeland and Anglican Tony Palmer: Protestants Beware!). Even the United Nations is pushing it (see United Nations: Humankind’s Last Hope or New World Order? Iand/or watch a related video: United Nations and Vatican Are Planning the New World Order.).

The Bible clearly warns against the final Babylonian system which the ecumenical movement is trying to form Revelation 13:6-9; 17:3-6, 9, 18; 18:2-5).

That is the system that the ecumenical movement trying to prop up.

Catholics may be surprised to realize that some of their private prophecies warn against what is happening:

Anna-Katarina Emmerick (October 1, 1820): The Church is in great danger…The Protestant doctrine and that of the schismatic Greeks are to spread everywhere.  I now see that in this place (Rome) the (Catholic) Church is being so cleverly undermined, that there hardly remain a hundred or so priests who have not been deceived.  They all work for the destruction, even the clergy.  A great destruction is now at hand…

(April 22, 1823): I saw that many pastors allowed themselves to be taken up with ideas that were dangerous to the Church.  They were building a great, strange, and extravagant Church.  Everyone was admitted in it in order to be united and to have equal rights: Evangelicals, Catholics, sects of every description.  Such was to be the new Church (Dupont Y. Catholic Prophecy: The Coming Chastisement. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), 1973, pp. 66, 71).

Jeanne le Royer (died 1798):  One day I heard a voice which said, ‘The new Constitution will appear to many other than what it really is.  They will bless it as a gift from heaven; whereas it is really a gift from {haydes} and permitted by God in His just wrath.  It will only be by its effects that people will be led to recognize the Dragon who wanted to destroy all and devour all (Dupont, p. 53).

Oba Prophecy: It will come when the Church authorities issue directives to support a new cult, when priests are forbidden to celebrate in any other, when the highest positions in the Church are given to perjurers and hypocrites, when only the renegades are admitted to occupy those positions.

Nun Anna-Katarina Emmerick (19th century): I saw again a new and odd-looking Church which they were trying to build. There was nothing holy about it…

Yves Dupont (writer interpreting A. Emmerick above), They wanted to make a new Church, a Church of human manufacture, but God had other designs…The Holy Father shall have to leave Rome, and he shall die a cruel death. An anti-pope shall be set up in Rome. (Dupont, pp. 115,116)

Jeanne le Royer (died 1978): I see that when the Second Coming of Christ approaches a bad priest will do much harm to the Church. (Culligan, E. The Last World War and the End of Time. The book was blessed by Pope Paul VI, 1966. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), p. 128)

St. Hildegard (died 1179): But now you see her from the waist down; for you see her in her full dignity as the Church…And from her waist to the place that denotes the female, she has various scaly blemishes… … And thus in the place where the female is recognized is a black and monstrous head. For the son of perdition will come raging with the arts he first used to seduce…causing people to deny God and tainting their minds and tearing the Church with the greed of rapine. (Hildegard of Bingen. Scivias. Paulist Press, Mahwah (NJ), pp. 497,498)

Comment by Barbara Newman (1998): But as early as Scivias, Hildegard shockingly portrayed Ecclesia {the Catholic Church} as giving birth to Antichrist himself…Some other early works of Hildegard’s, written before 1159, show a similar sourness of tone with respect to the institutional church. (Newman, Barbara. Voice of the Living Light: Hildegard of Bingen and Her World. Published by University of California Press, 1998, p. 83)

Protestants used to teach that the Pope was the antichrist and would be the final Antichrist.  Catholic prophecies warn against their leaders supporting the faith of the Antichrist.  The ecumenical movement is warned against in the Bible and even Catholic prophecies.  None should support it.

The Bible teaches that the only true unity of the faith will happen AFTER the false ecumenical movement is eliminated which happens with the return of Jesus Christ (e.g. Zechariah 2:6-11).

What certain Catholic, Pentecostal, Protestant, and Orthodox leaders are trying to do is not the will of God.

Iran unveiled a new military threat:

Iran has unveiled its own copy of an American stealth drone it captured in late 2011, claiming to have cracked the “secrets” of the bat-wing craft and added weapons capabilities…

Fars News Agency reported that while Iran’s duplicate of the US RQ-170 Sentinel drone was smaller, it also had a “bombing capability to attack the US warships in any possible battle.” The story in Persian was headlined: “America’s nightmare has become reality.”

State television showed footage on Sunday it said was of a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf filmed by an Iranian drone.The drone replica was unveiled at an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) exhibition on Sunday, where Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was briefed on how the drone, its systems, and structure had been reverse-engineered. Iran has made many threats in the past towards both Israel and the USA.  It is now getting closer to being able to carry its threats out.

Iran has a lot of nuclear materials and could at least now produce what is called a ‘dirty bomb.”  A “dirty bomb” is one where radioactive materials are placed inside a conventional bomb.  The resultant explosion would contaminate an area and make it radioactively dangerous.  Many also believe that Iran is close to producing not just the possibility of dirty bombs, but actual nuclear bombs.  Iran having drone stealth technology puts the USA, Israel, and others at risk of being attacked with nuclear explosions.  This could very well happen.

Furthermore, another way that Iran could inflict major damage to the USA would be an effective use of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapons. Iran is believed to have that capability.

An EMP attack by Iran, in the proper locations, could greatly affect Israel, the USA, or even Europe.  Having a stealth drone could make this a reality.  But I should add that Iran test-fired a missile last Summer that was believed to be capable of delivering an emp bomb.  Thus, Iran probably is considering multiple ways of employing them.

Power transformers in the USA (and elsewhere) are at risk from emp bombs and this could cause major economic and other damage to the USA. Such emp weapons, however, have never been used large scale, so precisely what would happen is subject to debate. But the reality is that emp weapons, as well as solar flares which have similar potential, are threats to the USA, its defenses, and its economy.

The USA, despite its military strength, is vulnerable to being hurt by EMP weapons as well as nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, dirty bombs, terrorism, and biological weapons that Iran and/or its ally Syria possess. It has been shown in a test that EMPs can basically work as advertised, and this may give the Iranians more reason to look further into using them if they feel pressed.

As far as Iran itself goes, while it wants to lead all of Islam, it will fail in that objective — the Bible points to an Arabic power doing that in Daniel 11:40-43.  Because of that, I have long felt that it may be that Iran would be ‘neutralized’ before the final King of the South (Daniel 11:40) rises up.

Iran could be neutralized by internal unrest or other matters.  On the other hand, if it employs, or attempts to employ, certain weapons of mass destruction, it may well cause Israel, the USA, and/or others to turn on it and destroy aspects of its military capability.

“Neutralizing” Iran would allow most of the other Islamic states (like Saudi Arabia and Egypt) to continue to exist (Syria might not do well per Isaiah 17:1) and allow for the rising of the prophesied King of the South to rise up.

The top leadership of Iran has a Shi’ite Muslim agenda, which they have concluded includes causing chaos and war. I, for one, do not believe that Iran’s leaders have given up on their goals of Islamic domination–and they do want weapons of mass destruction. But if they significantly act militarily with them (cf. Isaiah 22:1-14), it ultimately will not turn our well for Iran (e.g. Jeremiah 49:34-38).

Thérèse of Lisieux was canonized as a ‘Catholic saint’ on May 17, 1925, by Pope Pius XI. She died in 1897. She became quite popular in the 20th century.

Her remains have traveled the world. They have been viewed, adored, worshiped and prayed to by various Catholic in more than 40 nations. Some claim her remains have even restored sight to the blind. A few years ago, about two million turned out to see St. Terese’s remains when they were in Ireland (The Independent, August 23, 2009).

Therese became so ill with a fever that people thought she was dying. The worst part of it for Therese was all the people sitting around her bed staring at her like, she said, “a string of onions.” When Therese saw her sisters praying to statue of Mary in her room, Therese also prayed. She saw Mary smile at her and suddenly she was cured. She tried to keep the grace of the cure secret but people found out and badgered her with questions about what Mary was wearing, what she looked like. When she refused to give in to their curiosity, they passed the story that she had made the whole thing up…

Every time Therese even imagined that someone was criticizing her or didn’t appreciate her, she burst into tears. Then she would cry because she had cried! Both biblical (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) and non-biblical sources suggest that signs and wonders will deceive many at the end.

Some of them will likely involve apparitions claiming to be Mary as well as people who have claimed to somehow see Mary.

The prevalence of such claims lately has caused the Vatican to issue statements and policies warning against many of them (see Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the Apparitions).

It needs to be emphasized that just because a Catholic nun claims to have seen Mary and passes on messages, that this does not mean that the messages are from God–and even the Church of Rome teaches that (for some documentation please see Catholic Prophecies: Do They Mirror, Highlight, or Contradict Biblical Prophecies?).

In August 1895, in her “Canticle to the Holy Face” Thérèse wrote:

“Jesus, Your ineffable image is the star which guides my steps. Ah, You know, Your sweet Face is for me Heaven on earth. My love discovers the charms of Your Face adorned with tears. I smile through my own tears when I contemplate Your sorrows”. (Wikipedia)

This should set off warnings to all as the reality is that she never actually saw Jesus’ face/image, hence to claim that it was an His image that guided her steps would not be correct.

The Apostle John wrote:

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1).

And that is what all should do. God’s true prophets do not ever claim God told them something and then been shown to have been in error.

Thérèse of Lisieux was not a true prophet of God (see How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God), but instead is one of many throughout history that seems to have been used to set people up for the deception that is still going to come (Matthew 24:24) who do not truly have the “love of the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:8-12).
