St. Patrick’s Day is dangerous

Postcard from 1912 for “St. Patrick’s Day”

COGwriter

March 17th is often observed as St. Patrick’s Day. Some see it as a Catholic holiday, while others mainly an Irish holiday.

According to AAA (an automobile association) and police departments, this is a dangerous holiday:

AAA and Bud Light Urge Motorists Not to Rely on Luck in Order to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Safely

March 16, 2015

TAMPA, Fla. – St. Patrick’s Day has ended in tragedy for many Americans over the past few years. Between 2009 and 2013, 276 lives were lost on this holiday due to drunk-driving crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“We are asking all motorists to plan ahead this St. Patrick’s Day if they are going to be away from home and drinking,” said Gerry Gutowski, senior vice president, Automotive Services, The Auto Club Group. “That means having a Designated Driver, staying where you are celebrating, or arranging for another form of sober transportation.”

Here is what the bishops of Ireland have released (the portion in italics was a translation provided in the news item):

We pray through the intercession of our national patron, St Patrick, for the faith and well-being of the people of Ireland. Saint Patrick was called to serve and bring God to a people far from his homeland. As Saint Patrick’s Day is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics in Ireland, the best way to honour him is to attend Mass.

In 2014 we celebrate our national Saint’s day…

We pray the blessings of the feast of Patrick on all the people of Ireland. We think especially of all our people who are exiles far from home: may the Christian faith of Patrick be their support and comfort always. We pray also through the intercession of Saint Patrick, for the many people who have come into this country in recent years seeking shelter, asylum and a new life: may the welcome amongst us they receive be generous; let us see to that, as people of God and of Saint Patrick. http://www.zenit.org/en/articles/bishops-of-ireland-say-st-patrick-s-day-is-time-to-pray-for-migrants

Notice that the bishops are saying to pray to Patrick, for his intercession and comfort from him. The Bible is clear that there is only one mediator and that this can only be Jesus:

For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5, NKJV).

For there is one God, one also mediator of God and men, man Christ JESUS (1 Timothy 2:5, RNT).

Thus any others who claim to be a mediator, or the type of intercessor that the Irish bishops are referring to clearly contradict the Bible (from both the Catholic and Protestant translations) and CANNOT BE OF GOD.

Aside from its non-biblical origins and driving dangers, what else is wrong with St. Patrick’s Day?

Its focus is non-appropriate. Notice a couple of headlines:

Main Street Bars Prepare St. Patrick’s Day Festivities

St. Patrick’s Day events planned: Leprechaun Olympics, pub crawl

The Guardian
Irish people will feel compelled to drink alcohol to celebrate St Patrick’s Day this Sunday whether they want to or not; even those who declare themselves as teetotal for the rest of the year.

Notice something about 2014:

St. Patrick’s Day has evolved from its Irish-Catholic roots of observing the country’s patron saint into one of the biggest global parties of the year.  In fact, few countries celebrate as hard as we do right here in the U.S.A. But have we taken the good-natured celebration too far in another direction?

A Costly Celebration

An estimated 133 million people were expected to join the holiday celebrations this year, and St. Patrick’s Day spending overall was predicted to grow to $4.8 billion in the United States. Wondering how that much money is spent on a non gift-giving holiday? As you probably guessed, alcohol is a main contributor. In 2012, it was estimated that beer brewers alone took in $245 million in St. Patrick’s Day sales. That means 1% of all annual U.S. beer sales came from just this one day.

The dollar amounts are staggering, but they aren’t the only St. Patrick’s Day numbers that should give you cause for pause. On Saturday, March 8, police made 73 arrests after converging on a crowd of more than 4,000 students partying in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day at UMass Amherst. Despite the best efforts of schools to proactively combat the heavy drinking associated with this holiday, like scheduling spring breaks that overlap with it or paying local bars not to serve alcohol on the day, college communities continue to struggle with the chaos of mid-March festivities.  https://www.thewatershed.com/blog/st-patricks-day-illuminates-dark-dangers-of-binge-drinking/

Notice what the Apostle Peter wrote:

1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles — when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. (1 Peter 4:1-3)

Is not “St. Patrick’s Day” a time from revelry, drinking parties, and drunkenness? Is not that something that the Apostle Peter said real Christians would no longer participate in?

According to the Apostle Paul, such people will not be in the Kingdom of God:

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

Despite what the Bible teaches, the Protestant publication “Christianity Today” seems to think it is acceptable to celebrate as one article at its website states:

Patrick the Saint
Behind the fanciful legends of the fifth-century British missionary stands a man worthy of embellishment (Cagney, Mary. Patrick the Saint).

Each year millions of people observe St. Patrick’s Day, but those in the Continuing Church of God, do not. We observe the Holy Days that God enjoined in the Bible and urge others to do so as well.

Kerry wants to talk with Assad, Gulf states fear USA’s lack of resolve

States of Gulf Cooperation Council in purple

COGwriter

Comments by United States Secretary of State related to talks with Syria’s President Assad is concerning several Arab Gulf states:

March 16, 2015

WASHINGTON—As the Syrian conflict enters its fifth year, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said it is time to “reignite a diplomatic outcome” to a conflict that has killed more than 200,000 people and displaced millions.

Kerry said an effort is underway to convince Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to “change his calculation” and enter into negotiations.

On Monday, Assad said he is awaiting “action” from Washington to match Kerry’s words.

“We are still hearing the declarations and we should wait for actions and then decide,” Assad was quoted by state-run Syrian media as saying to Iranian television.

Gulf states concerned

However, Kerry’s comments on Assad provoked alarm and dismay among commentators close to Gulf Arab governments opposed to his rule.

Saudi Arabia, the top oil exporter and main Arab ally of the United States, has long feared that the Obama administration lacks the resolve to tackle Assad and that it is instead focusing on a nuclear deal with the Syrian leader’s main supporter Iran, analysts said.

Although there was no immediate official comment from Riyadh, Saudi analysts with connections to the ruling family and conservative Sunni Muslim clerics quickly voiced concern about Kerry’s remarks.

“Bashar has no legitimacy after killing his people and driving 11 million out of their houses. How can you sit down and talk to him and keep him in power? It’s a big joke for us,” Abdulaziz al-Sager, head of the Gulf Research Center based in Jeddah and Geneva, told Reuters.

“We have to negotiate in the end,” Kerry said Sunday. “We’ve always been willing to negotiate in the context of the Geneva I process,” he added, referring to a 2012 conference that called for a negotiated transition to end the conflict.

However, France said it was sticking to its opposition to talks with Assad, saying these had to include Syrian opposition members and elements of the exiting regime — but not Assad — to pave the way to a unity government.

‘Unacceptable’

Other Gulf countries, which like Saudi Arabia have backed Syrian rebels against Assad, worried about Kerry’s remarks.

“The fact that Assad is still in the picture is something we have lived with and accepted as an interim arrangement. If Mr. Kerry was talking about this same interim arrangement — one year or two years until negotiations reach some fruit — we understand,” said Sami al-Faraj, a Kuwaiti adviser to the Gulf Cooperation Council that comprises Gulf Arab states.

“But if he means that even after negotiations Assad would stay on, that is unacceptable,” Faraj said.

Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said any transition cannot begin in Syria until Assad leave power. Faisal has also accused Assad of committing genocide against Syrians.  http://www.voanews.com/content/us-prepared-to-negotiate-political-solution-with-syrian-regime/2681471.html

The conflict in Syria has been horrific and the Saudis and others are concerned that the USA will not do what it indicated in the past.

Which was?

To see to the elimination of the Assad regime in Syria.

The USA is, unintentionally, turning its closer allies in the region to look for more reliable allies.  And many are looking towards Europe.  The Bible tells of various deals involving the Arabs and Europeans (Psalm 83:3-8; Daniel 9:27; 11:27)–and these will not turn out well for the USA, its Anglo-Saxon allies, or the nation of Israel.

Ultimately, despite what various sides in the warring and sometimes non-warring factions want, the reality is that the Bible shows that Syria’s capital Damascus will be destroyed (Isaiah 17:1).

Eventually, the Bible indicates that Syria will support the coming final King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:1-8) and a change in or from the Assad regime will be necessary for this to happen–and it will come to pass–irrespective of what the USA tries to do.

An Islamic confederation that will include the land of Syria is coming (Daniel 11:27,40-43; Ezekiel 30:1-8; Psalm 83:4-8).  The USA will not fare well long after it does (Daniel 11:39).

EU’s Tusk tells UK’s Cameron plans are ‘Mission Impossible’

EU Council President Donald Tusk had some words for the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom:

David Cameron told drive for EU treaty change is ‘mission impossible’

Donald Tusk, European Council president, says he will ‘help’ the Prime Minister win reform but warns him against opening ‘Pandora’s Box’ on changing treaties

Donald Tusk: Cameron’s call to reopen EU treaties is ‘mission impossible’

March 15, 2015

David Cameron’s quest to secure a new deal for Britain in Europe by reopening the EU treaties is virtually “mission impossible”, according to the key EU politician who will run the negotiations. …

A little more than three months before Cameron, should he remain prime minister, is expected to deliver his wish list to Brussels on what Britain needs if he is to win a referendum keeping the UK in the EU, Tusk said he would be hard-pressed to engineer a consensus among the other 27 EU countries that would satisfy the prime minister.

“I am ready to help Cameron,” Tusk said in an interview with the Guardian and five other European newspapers. “I have no doubt that we have to help in a limited and rational framework. We have to help David Cameron because he is obviously pro-European. I am sceptical when it comes to changing the treaty.”

The UK government has repeatedly pushed for a re-opening of the EU’s Lisbon treaty to nail down the changes it wants, arguing that the pact has to be rewritten to underpin greater political integration in the crisis-ridden eurozone. Tusk said there were minimal chances of this happening.

“My intuition is that treaty change is close to mission impossible today because it’s not only about rationality, about good argument,” he said. “We need unanimity between 28 member states, in the European parliament, in 28 national parliaments in the process of ratification. To say that it is a Pandora’s Box is too little.”

Tusk’s comments were the first delivered publicly on the British issue since he took office as European council president in December.  http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/mar/15/camerons-call-to-reopen-eu-treaties-described-as-mission-impossible

David Cameron wants to make changes to the Lisbon Treaty and feels that if he is not successful, more in the UK will want to leave the EU.  David Cameron has promised to support an referendum in the UK for its people to vote whether or not they wish to remain in the European Union.

Notice also the following:

March 16, 2015

London:  EU president Donald Tusk warned Sunday that British Prime Minister David Cameron’s plans to amend the bloc’s treaties to secure a new deal for Britain in Europe were virtually “mission impossible”. …

If he is re-elected in May’s general election, Cameron has promised to renegotiate Britain’s membership of the European Union, notably to introduce tighter controls on immigration, and hold an in or out referendum by 2017.

He accepts that his proposed reforms would require changes to existing EU treaties, but is under pressure to deliver from the right flank of his Conservative party and the anti-EU, anti-immigration UK Independence Party (UKIP).

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has reportedly promised to support Cameron’s party in the event that it does not win a parliamentary majority in May, on the condition that it brings the EU referendum forward to 2015.  http://www.ndtv.com/world-news/uks-hoped-for-treaty-change-almost-impossible-eu-chief-donad-tusk-746871

Nigel Farage is one of the opposition politicians that wants this referendum and he wants the UK will vote to leave the EU.  Notice also the following:

March 16, 2015

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has reportedly promised to support Cameron’s party in the event that it does not win a parliamentary majority in May, on the condition that it brings the EU referendum forward to 2015.

Referendum in July?

The Sunday Telegraph reported that Farage had set out clear plans for such a deal, for the first time, in his book, The Purple Revolution. It is being serialised in the newspaper.

“The terms of my deal with the Tories would be very precise and simple. I want a full and fair referendum to be held in 2015 to allow Britain to vote on being in or out of the European Union,” Farage wrote.

The referendum’s question should be something like “Do you wish to be a free, independent sovereign democracy?”, Farage suggested. He would demand agreement on the vote’s timing, wording, voter eligibility and referendum conduct.

UKIP would be joined in supporting the Conservatives by Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party under the plan.

“UKIP would support a confidence and supply agreement with the government, whoever the government may be,” a UKIP spokeswoman told AFP when asked about the report.

“They want to hold the feet of the elected representatives of this country to the fire.”

Cameron has promised to renegotiate Britain’s membership of the EU before holding a referendum on whether to leave the 28-member-state bloc in 2017.

The prospect of an earlier vote on the so-called “Brexit” has the potential to rattle investors and cause concern in Brussels. http://www.euractiv.com/sections/uk-europe/tusk-calls-camerons-eu-reform-plans-mission-impossible-312915

‘Brexit’ is a term meaning a British exit from the European Union.  The time will come when the United Kingdom will be taken over and get its lands divided by the final European King of the North (cf. Daniel 11:39).

It is likely that the United Kingdom will leave the European Union before that happens.  A ‘Brexit’ (also called a ‘Brixit,’ for British exit) may well come from a vote.  This could happen this year. However, it may not happen until 2017 or later, for many reasons–including the fact that polls indicate that most in the UK would not vote to leave the EU at this time.

Yet, for Donald Tusk to tell Prime Minister Cameron that treaty changes are basically impossible, this may galvanize EU opponents and they may be better to drive home the points that the EU plan is to eliminate sovereign states in Europe and that all members have to put up with whatever Brussels decides.  Since most in the UK do not wish to lose sovereignty, many could change their minds.

Already, the UK is one of the largest (if not the largest) economy in the EU that does not use the Euro–nor does it want to adopt it.  This is a sore spot with those in Brussels who want more European unity.  So, there are those in Brussels who have problems with the UK and those in the UK who have problems with Brussels.

As far as the UK’s role in the future, as I have written several times before, the UK will not remain a major power in the final European configuration. The UK may well leave prior to its final formation. Notice also the following from various writers who were once part of the Church of God (three of which have since died):

Here is Britain trying to GET IN on this uniting of Europe! … It is this same daughter of ancient Babylon who is to lay the YOKE of captivity and slavery on America and Britain. … Britain is allowing it self to get mixed in with European foreigners… When God brings Britain DOWN-the rime of JACOS’ S TROUBLE -the only time when the DAUGHTER of Babylon will be sitting astride a united MILITARY EUROPE. (Armstrong HW. BRITAIN’S DOOM Prophesied for Common Market Seeking Membership! Plain Truth, July 1962)

Perhaps it should be mentioned that the general position within the Churches of God is that Britain will not remain in the EU and will pull out at some point. (Thiel B. Tony Blair a Catholic EU Leader? Church of God News, June 26, 2007. https://www.cogwriter.com/news/prophecy/tony-blair-a-catholic-eu-leader/)

The English-speaking nations will not prosper for long in connection with this system, however. In fact, they will ultimately be overpowered and destroyed by it militarily. Prior to military attack and occupation, devastating weather problems, combined with internal civil strife (“tumults in the midst” cf. Amos 3:9) will bring our nations to the point of internal collapse. (Ogywn J. The United States and Great Britain in Prophecy. Booklet, Charlotte (NC)).

It should be understood that ultimately, Britain will NOT thrive as part of the EU but will be taken over by the final European Beast power–yet its former Prime Minister is promoting something that will not help the peoples of the UK. (Thiel B. Tony Blair Calls for a Strong, Elected, EU President Church of God News, June 9, 2007. https://www.cogwriter.com/news/prophecy/tony-blair-calls-for-a-strong-elected-eu-president/)

Bible prophecy clearly shows that Britain will not be one …comprising the final United States of Europe (McNair R. A Strong United Europe. Tomorrow’s World, February 1970, p. 17).

The Bible shows that Europe will have at least three reorganizations (see also Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).

Yet, whether it is called a Brixit or a Brexit, in some way, some day, the United Kingdom will exit.

Last year, David Cameron opposed the election of Jean-Claude Juncker as European Commission president as he feared this would get more in the UK to want to leave the EU (see A Brixit, a Brexit, EU concerned about a British exit).  Anyway, Jean-Claude Juncker was still made European Commission president.  This did not help UK feelings towards the EU and vice versa.

Yet since Donald Tusk wants unity–and that includes with the UK for now–he will try to do something.  Whether or not it is going to be enough remains to be seen.

Some Proposed Routes of the Exodus

COGwriter

On the news recently was a report of various archeologists and Egyptologists who denied the account of the Exodus in the Bible.  This denial is not new.

Notice the following from several decades ago:

“There is no record of any Exodus in the Egyptian records.” So thousands of students are assured by college professors. And few stop to question this blanket statement from such erudite scholars. …

The following statement by an eminent historian summarizes the views of many:

The present century has brought extensive archaeological investigations in Egypt, the Holy Land, and adjacent countries which indicate that the Biblical account of the enslavement of the Children of Israel in Egypt and their exodus to the promised land of Canaan is traditional and legendary and without support of documentary archaeological evidence… no Egyptian records have been found relating to this early period of Hebrew history (Homer Hockett, The Critical Method in Historical Research and Writing, p. 52).

(Grabbe L. The Exodus. Tomorrow’s World, April 1971, pp. 28-29).

One of the reasons for this is that many scholars have assumed, for various reasons, that it supposedly should have occurred around 1250 B.C. Based upon that time period, there is no evidence that they see in Egypt or in the Palestinian region that supports the view that great numbers of Israelites left Egypt and settled in the area that ancient Israel came to dominate.

Part of the problem is the assumption that Ramesses II was supposedly the Pharaoh that was the one that Moses dealt with. This misconception was carried forward in the popular movie starring Charlton Heston as Moses and Yul Brynner as Pharaoh Ramses/Ramesses. Ramesses II was pharaoh from about 1279 to 1213 B.C.

But is the right period of time to be looking at?

Well, there is a clear numeric reference to the year of the Exodus in the Bible. Notice:

1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord. (1 Kings 6:1)

So, 1 Kings 6:1 shows 480 years from the exodus from Egypt to the fourth year of Solomon’s reign.  That would have been about 966 B.C. (see When was the Exodus?).

The late Dr. Herman Hoeh was with the Radio Church of God and then the Worldwide Church of God. He did a lot of historical research throughout his lifetime.

In December 1983, Dr. Herman Hoeh wrote:

Exodus date 1443 occurred at end of ninth year, beginning of tenth year of Amenhotep II who reigned jointly two and a half years with Thutmose III. Thutmose III reigned 54 years 1504-1450 B.C. Amenhotep II began to reign in 1453 B.C. Daughter of Thutmose I (a pharaoh) was Hatshepsut, who adopted Moses. She ruled jointly with her nephew Thutmose from 1504 to 1483 B.C. In the year 1483 Moses’ stepmother and protector died. This agrees with Moses’ flight 40 years before Exodus. (Hoeh H. Notes on the Reign of Kings. December 1983)

Notice that the belief was that it was Amenhotep II, not Ramses II, that was the pharaoh that Moses dealt with.

Although in 1983 he was leaning towards a date of the exodus in 1443 B.C., in a conversation on December 3, 1997, he changed that date to 1446 B.C. according to the following:

There are notes from a phone conversation with Dr. Hoeh from December 3, 1997 that speak of a kings chronology beginning in 930 B.C.

CHRONOLOGY UPDATE FROM A PHONE CONVERSATION (Dec 1997)

Dr. Hoeh: he is in a position to support a “change of my perspective” of Israel

— can prove date “about” 930 B.C. is a correct date

— Edwin Thiele — first year of Rehoboam was 930 B.C.

– spring to spring not autumn to autumn
– cannot move this date up or down
– Jews recognized autumn to autumn

Harvard Sem. Monograph #48
“Studies in the Chronology of the Divided Monarchy of Israel”
by William Hamilton Barnes
Scholars Press 1991 Harvard Univ.

– Kings of Tyre are linked with building of temple — Solomon 1561 (?)

— 1446 date of Exodus
— 1406 Jordan crossing
— 3983 Creation
— 2328 Flood * 2327 end of Flood
— 1975 Abraham’s birth
— 1800 Abraham’s death
— 6 1/2 years after crossing of Jordan land was divided after 400 years

A correction is in order

— beginning of Jeroboam’s/Rehoboam’s reign(s) = 930 B.C.

— 3983 B.C. = Creation

— 2328-2327 B.C. = Flood

— End of 6,000 = 2018 A.D.

— Edwin Thiele:

Thiele has correct date at the beginning of Jeroboam’s/Rehoboam’s reigns.

Spring to Spring “STUDIES ON THE CHRONOLOGY OF THE DIVIDED MONARCHY OF ISRAEL” by Edwin Thiele

— 1446 = Exodus
— 1406 = Entry into Promised Land

— Jehu = “Yahu” (Assyrian records)

— Spring of 930 B.C. = Beginning of Jeroboam’s reign

— Velikovsky & Amalekites:

So, Herman Hoeh came to a 1446 B.C. date for the exodus.  Although I did not see the above account from Dr. Hoeh until March 2015, back in 2009, I published a book where I quoted 1 Kings 6:1 and the 966 B.C. date of Solomon’s reign, hence also coming to the 1446 B.C. date.

Notice also the following:

Biblical Chronology: Dating the Exodus

The central text for establishing the exact date of the exodus, 1 Kgs 6:1, connects it to later Israelite history by noting that Solomon began constructing the Temple in the 480th year after the exodus, signifying an elapsed time of 479 years. 12 All but the minimalists agree that the 479 years begin with May of 967 or 966 B .C., depending on whether one accepts Young’s or Thiele’s version of Solomon’s regnal dates. 13 Thus the 479 years began in either 1446 or 1445 B .C., either of which can be substantiated by the biblical text and agree with the conclusions of this article. [Petrovich D. AMENHOTEP II AN D THE HISTORICITY OF THE EXODUS- PHARAOH. The Master’s Seminary Journal. TMSJ 17/1 (Spring 2006) 81-110. http://www.tms.edu/m/17f.pdf viewed 03/07/15]

1446 is possible.

Notice the following:

17 “But when the time of the promise drew near which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt 18 till another king arose who did not know Joseph. 19 This man dealt treacherously with our people, and oppressed our forefathers, making them expose their babies, so that they might not live. 20 At this time Moses was born, and was well pleasing to God; and he was brought up in his father’s house for three months. 21 But when he was set out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him away and brought him up as her own son. 22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.

23 “Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel. 24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian. 25 For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand. 26 And the next day he appeared to two of them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong one another?’ 27 But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? 28 Do you want to kill me as you did the Egyptian yesterday?’ 29 Then, at this saying, Moses fled and became a dweller in the land of Midian, where he had two sons. (Acts 7:17-29)

7 And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh. (Exodus 7:7)

Looking at these passages, we can see that Moses was in Midian for 40 years.

Rameses I and II become impossible.

Why?

Rameses I and and his son Rameses II are believed to have reigned for 2 and 66 years (consecutively) respectively. The Bible shows that Moses was born (Exodus 2:1-8) after the city of Rameses was built (Exodus 1:7). The Bible also shows that Moses was eighty when he went to Pharaoh to ask for the departure of the children of Israel (Exodus 7:7). Thus, adding the reigns of the two Pharaoh Rameses together makes it impossible that either was the Pharaoh of the Exodus.

Thus, simply because the Israelites earlier left a region called Rameses does not mean that it had been named after a pharaoh of the 19th dynasty–it certainly does not align with the Bible or secular history.

Now, I would add that according to certain readings of an inscription on the “Merneptah Stele,” the ancient Israelites already occupied the land of Canaan during the 1213-1203 B.C. reign of Merneptah (Jürgen von Beckerath, Chronologie des Pharaonischen Ägypten, Mainz, (1997), pp.190). The “Merneptah Stele” tells of a battle, shows people dressed like Canaanites, and tells of Egypt’s destroying seed of Israel. This seed would likely be grain as Egypt did not destroy all of Israel then.

Anyway, the “Merneptah Stele” basically means that idea that the Exodus happened during the time of Ramses II impossible.

Why?

Ramesses II allegedly reigned until 1213 B.C. and the Bible shows that the children of Israel wandered for forty years in the wilderness (Numbers 14:34-35; 32:13) before settling in the land of Canaan. It would make no sense that a defeated Ramses II could have reigned for at least 30 years (40 years, less the ten of Merneptah) after experiencing the plagues and loss of armies as described in the account in the Book of Exodus.

The term Rameses is mentioned in the Bible several time. Three are in connection with the children of Israel leaving that area (Exodus 12:37; Numbers 33:3,5). But notice the first reference:

5 Then Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, “Your father and your brothers have come to you. 6 The land of Egypt is before you. Have your father and brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell in the land of Goshen. …

11 And Joseph situated his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. (Genesis 47:5-6, 11)

From the above account it looks as if it is possible that Rameses was the name of an area centuries before the Exodus.

The name Ramesses means “Ra [is] the one who gave birth [to] him”. (Rameses, Wikipedia, viewed 03/08/15).

Since Ra was an important god to the Egyptians, perhaps because its location and where sunrise was perceived elsewhere in Egypt, the area could have been considered a ‘child’ of Ra. Ra was a god of the Egyptians for many centuries:

Ra /rɑː/[1] or Re /reɪ/ … is the ancient Egyptian solar deity. By the Fifth Dynasty (2494 to 2345 BCE) he had become a major god in ancient Egyptian religion, identified primarily with the midday sun. (Ra. Wikipedia, accessed 03/14/15).

The Bible teaches:

40 Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. 41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years — on that very same day — it came to pass that all the armies of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt. (Exodus 12:40-41)

Thus, the biblical chronology indicates that the children of Israel entered Egypt around 1876 B.C. (1446 B.C. plus 430 years). Ra was already a major god to the Egyptians for centuries before the children of Israel went to the area of Rameses.

In the 19th dynasty, its first leader took the name Ramesses for himself:

Originally called Pa-ra-mes-su, Ramesses I was of non-royal birth, being born into a noble military family from the Nile delta region. (Rameses I. Wikipedia, viewed 03/08/15).

Since Rameses I was not of royal birth and was starting his own dynasty (considered to be Egypt’s 19th), he decided to take the name, which he would have heard of, to himself. He probably felt that name gave him the type of authority he wanted to project.

Thus because of the length of time the Egyptians worshiped Ra, simply because the Israelites earlier left a region called Rameses does not mean that it had been named after a pharaoh of the 19th dynasty. The Pulpit Commentary on Genesis 47:11 indicates that the area of Rameses could have existed in the time of Joseph, but was later fortified by the Israelites while they were slaves in Egypt–and that probably was the case. If may have also been because of its fortification that Pa-ra-mes-su decided to take the name Ramesses for himself.

Then, if Ramesses II was not the Pharaoh of the Exodus, who could be?

Dr. Hoeh mentioned Amenhotep II.

Notice more information about Amenhotep II:

Chaeremon, an Egyptian who lived in the first half of the first century … as a priest and pedagogue in Alexandria and after 49 in Rome as the tutor of Nero, gives yet another version of the story. The goddess Isis appeared to King Amenophis in a dream and reproached him because of the destruction of her temple in times of war. The priest and scribe Phritibantes (“the chief of the temple”) advised him to propitiate the goddess by “purging” Egypt of the lepers. The King gathered 250,000 lepers and expelled them from Egypt. Their leaders were Moses and Joseph, whose Egyptian names were Tisithen and Peteseph. (Assmann J. Moses the Egyptian: The Memory of Egypt in Western Monotheism. Harvard University Press, 2009, p. 35)

The Abandonment of Avaris During the Reign of Amenhotep II

Archaeologist, Douglas Petrovich at the University of Toronto has written a fascinating article (Douglas Petrovich, ‘Toward Pinpointing the Timing of the Abandonment of Avaris During the Middle of the 18th Dynasty,’ in Journal of Ancient Egyptian Interconnections, Vol. 5:2, 2013, 9-28) which explores the precise timing of the abandonment of the ancient Egyptian city of Avaris during the Egyptian 18th Dynasty. In the article, Petrovich explores the various theories about the exact timing of the abandonment of the city of Avaris which seems to coincide with Amenhotep II. The significance of this and its possible relevance to the exodus, is that it is indirect evidence of a major crisis event which happened in the 9th year of Amenhotep’s rule. That event could very well be the Israelite exodus. This is not exactly what Petrovich is stating in the article, but it could be what he is implying. The timing is exactly in line with the “Early-Date Exodus/Conquest” model.

At the end of the article Petrovich makes some starling observations in his conclusions:

More inscriptional evidence may attest directly to the Year-9 crisis is Amenhotep II’s commissioning of a decree for his couriers to destroy all the images of the gods, singling out Amun-Re in particular. Given that Thutmose III and Amenhotep II expressly ascribed praise to Amun-Re for military victories on their Asiatic campaigns, and that Amenhotep II originated and/or perpetuated the desecration of Hatshepsut’s images throughout Egypt, there is plenty of reason to hypothesize that the religious crisis—and subsequent decree to destroy all the “bodies” of Egyptian deities throughout the land—may be intricately bound to the military and political turmoil of his Year-9. Moreover, a potential interruption in the high priesthood of Amun during this time may also attest to this “perfect storm” of events. Therefore, a religious crisis focused on Amun-Re at this time may have been initiated by Amenhotep II as a result of a devastating loss in battle which coincided with the abandonment of their principle naval base from which military operations into Asia were launched, and led to an unavoidable shift in foreign policy. (Ibid., 22)

Why would Amenhotep II order the destruction of the images of Egyptian gods? Why was there major turmoil & upheaval in Egypt’s religious practices? Why was there a complete change of foreign policy with regard Egypt’s nearest neighbors in Asia [in the Levant] in the later part of Amenhotep II’s reign? This evidence alone does not prove the exodus, but it is certainly consistent with the behavior of an autocratic & military ruler such as Amenhotep II, if such an event such as the biblical exodus took place. The exodus was an event in which Egypt’s gods were rendered impotent and pharaoh’s military forces were drastically reduced. I submit that the exodus, as it is exactly described in the Bible, is the most reasonable explanation for this turn of event’s Amenhotep II’s rule. (Wright T. Was There an Exodus & Conquest? Was Amenhotep II possibly Pharaoh at the right time?  Notice:

Egyptian Chronology: Dating the Pharaonic Reigns

Before determining whether Amenhotep II is a viable candidate for the exodus-pharaoh, one must synchronize the date of the exodus with Egyptian history. Though inspirati on does not extend to extra-biblical literature or ancient inscriptions, some extant writings are trustworthy. Several factors are relevant.

First, the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian manuscript that dates the heliacal rising of Sothis in Year 9, Month 3, Season 3, Day 9 ( ca . 15 May) of Amenhotep I’s reign, records this astronomical even that assigns its composition to an identifiable time in the Eighteenth Dynasty. [26 The Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt (ca. 1560-1307 B.C)…]

Since astronomers can pinpoint this event by charting the positions of stars in antiquity, the papyrus can be dated to ca . 1541 B.C., making the initial regnal year ca. 1550 B.C.. This widely accepted dating is based on the ancient capital of Memphis as the point of observation, despite the Theban provenance of the papyrus. A Theban point of observation, which is accepted by other Egyptologists, dates the papyrus to c a. 1523 B.C. [27 William A. Ward, “ The Present Status of Egyptian Chronology,” BASOR 288 (Nov 1992):58-5 …] Though the Egyptians never stated where they observed the Sothic rising, Olympiodorus noted in A.D. 6 that it was celebrated at Alexandria, after being observed at Memphis. [28 Ibid., 59.]

Therefore, Memphis is the probable correct point of observation for the rising. Second, even without astronomical dating, the chronology of Egypt in the mid- 1400s B.C. remains sure. Ward notes that “New Kingdom chronology can be fairly well established on the basis of the monuments and synchronisms, without recourse to the astronomical materia l.” [29 Ibid., 56. Egypt’s New Kingdom (ca. 1560-1069 B .C.) consists of Dynasties 18-20.] As for the Eighteenth Dynasty, he adds that the 25-year gap separating current theories on its starting date narrows to a scant three or four years by the middle of the dynasty, meaning that most mainstream Egyptologists consider the dating of Egypt’s exodus-er a history to be fixed and reliable. [30 Ibid.]

Last, regnal dates of Eighteenth-Dynasty pharaohs from the Ebers Papyrus to the exodus are fixed with relative certainty. With firm regnal dates for Amenhotep I, the reigns of the subsequent Eighteenth-Dynasty pharaohs down to Amenhotep II are as follows: Thutmose I (ca. 1529 -1516 B.C.), Thutmose II ( ca . 1516-1506 B.C.), Queen Hatshepsut (ca. 1504 -1484 B .C.), Thutmose III (ca . 1506-1452 B.C.), and Amenhotep II (ca. 1455-1418 B.C.). [31 Egyptologists disagree over the year of Thutmose III’s accession, with three views predominant: ca. 1504 B.C., ca .1490 B.C., and ca. 1479 B.C. (Redford, Egypt, Canaan, and Israel 104). The year 1504 is prefer red because of its exclusive agreement with the Ebers Papyrus when assuming a Memphite point of observation for the rising of Sothis. Shea agrees (William Shea, “Amenhotep II as Phar aoh,” Bible and Spade 16/2 [200 3]:43 ).] With these reigns chronologically ordered, a positive evaluation of Amenhotep II’s candidacy for the exodus-pharaoh is possible.  [Petrovich D. AMENHOTEP II AN D THE HISTORICITY OF THE EXODUS- PHARAOH. The Master’s Seminary Journal. TMSJ 17/1 (Spring 2006) 81-110. http://www.tms.edu/m/17f.pdf viewed 03/07/15]

Is there any other evidence?

Yes, there is an ancient Egyptian document called the Ipuwer papyrus, of which a 13th century B.C. copy was found.  It includes information that sounds like the plagues of Egypt that the Book of Exodus tells of.  It is believed to date prior to the 13th century, hence it too tends to point more towards a 15th century B.C. date for the Exodus (though some claim it was older).

As far as travel related to the Exodus, notice:

If the dating of archaeological sites should be based on pottery and other historical considerations (such as the chronology of Egypt’s pharaohs), then all of the evidence from Tell Jericho argues for its destruction and burning around 1401-1406 B.C. All of the evidence from Jericho at this time (ca. 1401-6 B.C.) fits the biblical record in an amazing way, from the details about the city being burned along with everything in it [offered to God as a burnt offering] (see Joshua 6), to the walls having dwelling places [houses] where Rahab helped the Jewish spies enter the city to spy its defenses (Joshua 2).

Continuing research at Jericho and now new research at Tel-el Maqatir (biblical Ai?) is yielding results that confirm the biblical record of Joshua’s conquest in amazing ways. Most critical scholars place Ai at et-Tell but there is no archaeological evidence of a destruction there which fits the biblical description. However, just one kilometer west is another site (Tel el-Maqatir) which very well could be the biblical site of Ai. This conclusion is based, once again, not on opinion but on hard evidence. (see, Bryant Wood’s, ‘The Search for Joshua’s Ai,’ in Richard S. Hess, Gerald A. Klingbeil and Paul K. Ray Jr., Editors, Critical Issues in Early Israelite History (Winona Lake, Indiana: Eisenbrauns, 2008), 205-40.) (Wright T. Was There an Exodus & Conquest? I would add if the Exodus did take place in 1446 B.C., forty years of wilderness wandering would bring us to 1406 B.C. as a likely time for the destruction of Jericho.

As for others who do not believe it occurred because of looking at dates about two centuries later, understand that the Bible teaches:

4… Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. (Romans 3:4)

20… Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge — 21 by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. (1 Timothy 6:20-21)

The Bible also tells of people who are “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7).

So, when you hear the opinion of ‘scholars’ when they blatantly contradict the Bible, realize that the Bible is still true.

Just because there were pharaohs of the 19th dynasty named Ramesses, does not mean that the Exodus occurred during that dynasty. The Bible tells of the existence of a region called Rameses centuries before the Exodus. ‘Ra’ worship was around for many centuries before the children of Israel entered Egypt.

Events related to Amenhotep II and Jericho are consistent with the biblical account.

The Exodus happened and it happened over 3400 years ago.

Despite the evidence that the Exodus occurred when and as the Bible tells of it, many do not wish to believe it.

Temple Institute Altar of 2009

COGwriter

Two readers sent me links to articles about a new altar produced by the Temple Institute:

March 14, 2015

The Institute, based in the Old City of Jerusalem, announced it has finished building an altar that is essentially “ready for use” in sacrificial services.

The altar is the most ambitious project to date toward the goal of rebuilding the Jewish Temple. The massive outdoor altar, which took several years to build, can be operational at little more than a moment’s notice, reported the Israeli magazine Matzav Haruach.

The altar is the last major component needed for the long-obstructed sacrifices to resume in a future Jewish temple.  http://www.wnd.com/2015/03/holy-altar-constructed-for-third-jewish-temple/#zP0wAOY1qHHZLf0R.99

According to the Bible, the altar may not be made out of stones hewn by metal implements. The altar prepared by the Temple Institute, under the direction of architect Rabbi Shmuel Balsam, follows this requirement.

It is constructed instead from bricks fired at roughly 1,000 degrees Celsius (1,832 degrees Fahrenheit), to withstand the immense heat of the Temple’s eternal flame and the weight of the sacrificial animals. Its measurements conform to the interpretation of Maimonides.

What makes the altar so unique is that it can be disassembled and reassembled easily, allowing it to be transported quickly and efficiently from its current location, on display at the institute, to the Temple Mount when the time comes. It was inaugurated in December 2014 and is now ready for use. With Passover around the corner, and the Passover sacrifice a central component of the traditional celebration, perhaps that time will come soon!  http://www.breakingisraelnews.com/32009/altar-jewish-holy-temple-rebuilt-jewish-world/#OvLPDZu9ziO8L5Ld.99

Now, the Temple Institute was long had an altar of unhewn stones that it could perform sacrifices on.  Not only did I report on the in late 2009, I also confirmed this when I visited the Temple Institute during a trip to Jerusalem in October 2013.

It is certainly the goal of the Temple Institute to re-initiate animal sacrifices and no doubt they would like to do that this Passover (which begins after sunset on the 2nd of April in 2015).

Now the article by World News Daily (WND) had some other parts that I believe are misleading such as:

Bible scholars say the rebuilding of the ancient temple is predicted throughout scripture, starting with Daniel’s vision in Daniel 9:27. Jesus echoed Daniel’s warning about an abomination standing in “the holy place” in the last days in Matthew 24:15, followed by the Apostle John’s vision of the Temple in Revelation 11:1-2. http://www.wnd.com/2015/03/holy-altar-constructed-for-third-jewish-temple/#Gs1xLRbW86qKo2Rk.99

How is that misleading?

While it does discuss sacrifices, there is no mention of a temple in Daniel 9:27 (see also ).  I would also add that I confirmed with the reconstituted Sanhedrin via email and the Temple Institute in person that the Jewish leaders associated with those groups DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY MUST HAVE A REBUILT TEMPLE TO SACRIFICE.  They only need an altar and would like permission from Israeli authorities (it is the lack of the latter item that has prevented them from resuming animal sacrifices).  I would add that Ezra makes it clear that Jews DO NOT need a temple to sacrifice:

6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. (Ezra 3:6)

Getting back to misleading statements in the WND article, while Jesus did mention the ‘holy place,’ He also did not mention a temple (see also Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).  Jesus may have been referring to an actual Christian location, as opposed to a Jewish one (see Church of God on Jerusalem’s Western Hill).  As far as Revelation 11:1-2 goes, believers need to realize that according to the New Testament, it is Christians who are the ‘temple of God’ is this age, not a possible reconstructed Jewish building (see also Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).

WND also had this in its article:

Jonathan Cahn, author of “The Harbinger” and “The Mystery of the Shemitah” also sees the announcement as significant.

“We know that end-time prophecy cannot be fulfilled without the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem,” Cahn, a Messianic Jewish rabbi in New Jersey, told WND. http://www.wnd.com/2015/03/holy-altar-constructed-for-third-jewish-temple/#Gs1xLRbW86qKo2Rk.99

Jonathan Cahn’s “The Harbinger” and “The Mystery of the Shemitah”are flawed (here is a link with some information related to him: Pat Robertson declared ‘Harbinger’ author as God’s prophet; is he right about 2015?).  Also, his contentions about a temple must be rebuilt in this age are also biblically wrong (see Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).

WND also had the following in its article:

Mark Biltz, author of “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs” and pastor of El Shaddai Ministries, says…
“They could actually do sacrifices without a temple, some sacrifices. And Passover is one of them. There’s always been a drive to sacrifice a lamb on the Temple Mount,” http://www.wnd.com/2015/03/holy-altar-constructed-for-third-jewish-temple/#Gs1xLRbW86qKo2Rk.99

The above is correct.

WND also had the following in its article:

As an expert in the Hebrew roots of the Christian faith, Biltz is always looking at current events in light of the times and the seasons according to the Hebrew calendar. And there is something else special this year about Nisan 1, which arrives at sundown March 20.

“Amazingly, there is also a total solar eclipse occurring at the beginning of the religious calendar on March 20. A total solar eclipse speaks of judgment coming on the nations. This is followed two weeks later by a total lunar eclipse or blood moon on Passover.”

So the fact that a remnant of Jews has prepared an altar and the sacred vessels for temple services, even if the politics are still such that constructing the temple is currently impossible, is exciting, Biltz said. http://www.wnd.com/2015/03/holy-altar-constructed-for-third-jewish-temple/#Gs1xLRbW86qKo2Rk.99

While prophetically we do live in exciting times, the next blood moon IS NOT a biblical sign.  Nor, is likely the one coming up in September 2015–the blood moons the Bible tells of do not happen until years after the start of the Great Tribulation (see also Blood Moons and Prophecy).

However, there are a number of Protestants promoting the nonsense that there will be a pretribulation rapture this year, likely in September, and tying it in with the New Moons.  A video I watched about that also tied it in with the predictions in Jonathan Cahn’s Harbinger book, which as I mentioned before was biblically flawed.

That being said, the Temple Institute is preparing to perform animal sacrifices, has given statements showing that it is willing to do them without a new temple being built (only an altar and some implements with a Levite are biblically-required per scripture, and the Temple Institute has basically claimed to have all of that).

The Bible teaches that animal sacrifices will stop (Daniel 9:27; 11:31), which means that they first must start. And irrespective of Protestant views about a Jewish temple the time will come for the sacrifices to. And that may very well happen after some type of peace deal is confirmed in the Middle East (cf. Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

The resumption of animal sacrifices is something that the Temple Institute may well be involved in–and they mainly only need permission from Israeli authorities to do so. One person there reported to one of our sons in September 2013 that this could be done within hours of getting permission.

And getting that permission is not impossible. Though it that may well take a war, peace deal, and/or political gridlock for that to happen. But it will come to pass.

Islamists kill Catholics and Protestants in Pakistan

Sunday, March 15th, 2015

Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lahore, Pakistan

COGwriter

Islamists in Pakistan bombed and killed Protestants and Catholics today:

March 15, 2015

ISLAMABAD—Authorities in Pakistan said two suicide bombings outside Christian churches in the eastern city of Lahore have killed at least 15 people and wounded more than 70 others, and a militant gang allied to the outlawed Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility.

The bombings minutes apart targeted a Catholic and a Protestant church in a majority Christian suburb, Youhanabad, where thousands of people had gathered for Sunday services.

Hospital officials said about 30 of those wounded in the attack are in critical condition. A senior Lahore police officer, Haider Ashraf, said two gunmen wearing suicide vests tried to shoot their way into the worship places.

“The suicide bombers tried to enter inside the buildings, but blew themselves up outside the churches because they were stopped by the concerned police people,” Ashraf said.  http://www.voanews.com/content/pakistan-blasts/2680632.html

March 15, 2015

Western officials in Islamabad who spoke to CBS News warned that Sunday’s attack further highlighted the risk of growing militancy in Pakistan, especially amid fears of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria militants seeking to expand their footprint in the south Asian country. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/deadly-attack-on-pakistan-christians-ignites-murderous-mob/

March 15, 2015

An offshoot of the Pakistan Taliban, calling itself Jamatul Ahrar, has said it carried out the attack.

Witnesses say suicide bombers were responsible for the explosions but police have not confirmed this.

The bombers are said to have detonated their explosives near the gates of St John’s Catholic Church and Christ Church.  http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-31894708

I would add that the Catholic cathedral in Lahore, Pakistan shown at the beginning of this post was affected by a suicide bomber on On March 11, 2008.

This type of violence is senseless, brutal, and mean.  The Apostle Paul was inspired to warn:

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Islamic terrorists claim to have a form of godliness, but do not believe in the God of the Bible.

Because of actions by Islamic terrorists, many in the West as well as in many of the Islam-dominated countries will decide that a coalition of nations in North Africa and the Middle East is what is needed for ‘peace.’ But this, according to the Bible, will not truly bring peace (Daniel 11:40-43), though it may well lead to a temporary peace (Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

The Bible tells of a time of even more terror. And that terror will NOT be limited to the Middle East nor Asia. Notice the following prophecies:

14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. (Leviticus 26:14-17)

25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:25)

12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12)

12 Behold, these are the ungodly,Who are always at ease; They increase in riches…19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. (Psalms 73:12,19)

25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. (Proverbs 1:25-27)

5 Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way (Ecclesiastes 12:5).

Jihadist gains in various parts of the world are a prelude to more terrorism and change. A confederation against the USA, its Anglo-Saxon allies, and Israel involving Arab and European forces is coming. And I have long believed that terrorism will have to be part of this based not only upon the “terror” prophecies, but those that discuss an arrangement between what is now mainly Islamic dominated lands and Europe in Psalm 83. It may be that Pakistan could possibly support that and/or perhaps more likely the coming King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43; see also India & Pakistan, their Biblical Past and Future).

How a ‘religious’ organization can engage in suicide bombing is not justifiable. The wounded and families of the victims are in my prayers.

Additionally, we all need to pray, as Jesus said, ‘Thy kingdom come’ (Matthew 6:10, KJV).

The Continuing Church of God is pleased to announce our latest video on our Bible New Prophecy YouTube channel:

Shortly after a statue of ‘the Lady of Lourdes’ was removed from a church in Alta Gracia, Argentina in August 2011, there have been reports that there is a three-dimensional image of the statue that people can see. People see it from a distance, but the image vanishes when they get closer. Various ones have confirmed that there is nothing physically in the space, hence many are claiming that this is ‘Mary’ appearing.  At least tens of thousands have seen this?  Is this Mary the mother of Jesus?  The church leaders call it a ‘sign.’ Could this ‘sign’ be a warning (cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12)?

Passover is approaching: Have you examined yourself?

17th Century Representation of the Apostle Paul Writing an Epistle

COGwriter

After sunset on April 2, 2015, those  baptized members who are able in the Continuing Church of God, as well as the faithful in other groups or who are scattered, will be observing Passover.

Have you prepared?

The Apostle Paul wrote:

5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? — unless indeed you are disqualified. (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Have you been doing that?

Passover is only a few days from now.

Because in Western lands, it normally takes a long time to try to deleaven our homes and vehicles, hopefully you have started to physically deleaven, but the more important aspect of this is spiritual. Have you been trying to examine your life and noticed any areas that you need to change?

We are given this annual reminder of the Christ’s victory over sin that is ours because of the sacrifice of Jesus. The Bible teaches:

11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:11-15)

By participating in this service, you are expressing your faith in Christ’s death on your behalf, following in the examples of the apostles, and renewing your commitment to let Jesus Christ live His life in you. The Bible shows that through Jesus’ death we can be holy and blameless in God’s sight:

22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight (Colossians 1:22).

The Passover service reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice and His plan for us.

Notice also something that the Apostle John wrote:

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. (1 John 1:8-10)

So please, confess your sins and change. Passover is almost here this year.

Is the King of the South’s capital being built in Egypt?

Egypt announced plans to build a new capital which has involvement from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates:

March 14, 2015

Egypt is ready to ditch Cairo and build a shiny new capital…

Egypt is teaming up with a developer in the United Arab Emirates to build a city in what could be one of the world’s most ambitious infrastructure programs. The yet-to-be-named city will spread out over 150 square miles, or roughly the size of Denver, and could eventually be home to 7 million people, the developers and government announced Friday.

An exact location was not announced, but the city is expected to be built east of Cairo. It will be closer to the Red Sea…
The total cost is estimated at U.S. $45 billion, Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly announced at an economic development conference in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The unveiling of the new capital was paired with a glitzy website with renderings showing a lush and technological urban scape of glass towers and pools.

The plan is backed by a group that describes itself as “a private real estate investment fund by global investors focused on investment and development partnerships” led by Emirati developer Mohamed Alabbar. http://www.click2houston.com/news/egypt-unveils-plan-to-build-new-capital/31795364

The Egyptian government has announced plans to build a new capital to the east of the present one, Cairo.

Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the project would cost $45bn (£30bn) and take five to seven years to complete. …

The gathering, in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, has attracted pledges worth $12bn (£8bn) in aid and investment from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. …

It will be built by Capital City Partners, a private real estate investment fund led by Emirati Mohamed Alabbar. Dubai businessman Mr Alabbar built the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

‘Natural extension’

“It is a natural extension for the city of Cairo,” Mr Alabbar told the BBC, saying that the new development would sit on the edge of the existing city.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to design something from scratch, and to design it keeping in mind the needs of the Egyptian people and the Egyptian government.”

He said that the builders would be deploying the most advanced design techniques on the project, and that the city would breed “confidence” and “pride” in Egyptians.  http://www.bbc.com/news/business-31874886

CAIRO—

Egypt’s Arab neighbors and international partners, including the United States, gathered Friday in the Sinai resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh to pledge economic and moral support for rebuilding the tattered Egyptian economy through investment, restructuring and transparency.  …

Saudi Crown Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz pledged $4 billion in aid and investment to support the Egyptian economy.  Kuwait’s emir, Sabah Ahmad al-Sabah, and the leader of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Makhtoum, pledged similar amounts.  http://www.voanews.com/content/kerry-pledges-support-rebuilding-egypt-economy/2679388.html

So, Egypt wants a new capital.  It will be partially funded by Arab nations to its east, with encouragement from the USA.

This pan-Arabic project is interesting as the Bible tells of a coming confederation of Arab, Cushite, and Turkish peoples under the leadership of one called the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43).  The reader who sent me the link to the BBC article above asked if this could become the capital of the coming King of the South.  I responded that it is possible.  Though I should add here that the Muslim Brotherhood and others have sometimes pointed to Jerusalem or Damascus as the preferred capital for an end time confederation (often called a caliphate in Islamic writings).

Another reason that this project is interesting is that only last month, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for a pan-Arabic military confederation to combat terrorism. Despite how ‘questionable’ this may be in the short-run, this also could help lead to the confederation the Bible tells of a involving Egypt (Daniel 11:40-43).

The following prophesy is also of interest:

6 “‘This is what the LORD says:”‘The allies of Egypt will fall and her proud strength will fail. From Migdol to Aswan they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Sovereign LORD. 7 “‘They will be desolate among desolate lands, and their cities will lie among ruined cities. 8 Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I set fire to Egypt and all her helpers are crushed.

9 “‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush out of her complacency. Anguish will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come (Ezekiel 30:6-9, NIV).

It may well be that the capital that was announced to be built will be between Migdol and Aswan.  As the above prophecy shows, trouble will be coming to Egypt and perhaps this proposed capital is part of Egypt’s ‘proud strength’ that will fall.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is calling for something that could develop into the type of military that will be involved in those end time prophecies (see Egypt calls for ‘King of the South’ military). While the end is not yet, we are getting closer and world events show that leaders are calling for steps consistent with end time Bible prophecies.

It may be that the capital that Egypt and some of its allies want to build will become the capital city for the coming King of the South.
