German Chancellor Angela Merkel dined with British Prime Minister David Cameron at his Chequers retreat Friday to discuss the status of reforms the U.K. will seek before an in-or-out vote on its EU membership. …

The “informal” talks come just days ahead of Cameron’s expected presentation at an EU summit next Thursday and Friday of next steps for Britain’s renegotiation of its relationship with the European Union.

“He’s continuing explaining to these leaders the concerns that the U.K. has with these EU reform issues,” said a British diplomat. “There will be a short update at the European Council next week.”

Cameron has promised that Britain will hold a referendum on its EU membership before the end of 2017, and has been meeting with European leaders to discuss reforms on issues related to the free movement of labor in the bloc, competitiveness, and economic governance. …

Cameron will have a working lunch with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Tuesday ahead of the summit at which “options” will be discussed, according to an EU official.

Cameron has expressed his desire to erase the wording “ever closer union” in the preamble of the Treaties. David Cameron urged Angela Merkel on Friday to help keep Britain in the EU, amid concerns in senior Tory circles that many hedge fund chiefs will throw their financial muscle behind the “Brexit” campaign.

The UK prime minister entertained the German chancellor at Chequers with a dinner intended to accelerate his EU renegotiation, which is making slow progress in Brussels.

LONDON, Oct 10 (Reuters) – British lawmakers will start an inquiry into the costs and benefits of staying in the European Union next week as campaigning gets underway for a referendum on the country’s EU membership.

Legislators from the cross-party Treasury Committee — who normally monitor the Bank of England, finance ministry and banks — are set to start hearing from officials this month.

“This inquiry will be wide-ranging, dealing with all the economic and financial consequences of the UK’s EU membership, and the impact of departure,” Andrew Tyrie, the Conservative lawmaker who chairs the cross-party committee, said.

Prime Minister David Cameron, who wants to hold the vote before the end of 2017, is trying to renegotiate Britain’s relationship with the EU, which many members of his party and a sizeable minority of the public want to leave.

Opponents of Britain’s EU membership launched their campaign on Friday, saying Britain would reclaim sovereignty by leaving, while an umbrella group for supporters of membership is expected to launch its campaign next week.  http://www.breitbart.com/london/2015/10/10/british-mps-to-weigh-up-economic-case-for-brexit/

So, the campaign related to a possible Brexit (also called a Brixit) is on.  Brexit is short for BRitish EXIT and Brixit is short for BRItish exIT from the European Union.

Notice the Prime Minister Cameron wants the expression “ever closer union” removed from  the preamble of the Treaties.  But is an ever closer union that many of the continental European leaders want.  Many in the UK realize that the objective is for all nation states to lose their sovereignty.  And this has basically been stated by various ones (see EU wants UK to get over the idea of a ‘nation state’ and New Europe: Europe must reorganize into regions and not nation states).

So, Prime Minister Cameron hopes to persuade Chancellor Merkel to support his efforts to water down various EU treaties so that he can claim that the UK will not lose sovereignty as a member of the EU.  But no matter what he says and does, the biblical reality is that the Bible shows that Europe will reorganize at least twice and that will end up with a leader who rules over all of it (Revelation 17:12-13, see also Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).

There will be a type of dictatorial ‘United States of Europe.’  When Europe was still recovering from being devastated in World War II, after attending a conference related to the start of the UN, in the December 1948 issue of The Plain Truth Herbert W. Armstrong predicted a coming “United States of Europe” when he wrote:

It was the SERMON that shot forth that spark, impregnating the minds of world leaders in attendance. This amazing sermon was delivered by a foremost radio speaker of the Catholic Church, Bishop Duane G. Hunt of Salt Lake City…Without the guidance, supervision, authority of the Catholic Church, he told these men, they were laboring in vain…

This was the Roman Catholic bid to resurrect the so-called “HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE” ! And PROPHECY says they will succeed!…At the psychological time, the pope will step in… Thru this political movement, he will UNIFY…nations in Europe. It will be a “The UNITED STATES OF EUROPE,” but that probably will never become its official name. (Armstrong HW. Now It Can Be Told…The Plain Truth,December 1948, pp. 2,5).

In 1965, the late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote:

…European countries urgently want political union, the very UNITED STATES OF EUROPE I have been assuring PLAIN TRUTH readers for 31 years is definitely coming. It will unite them into a giant third World Power…

There is a definite German “Kultur! There is a French culture that is in many respects quite different. Then there is a still different Italian culture, a Spanish culture, a Scandinavian culture, a Swiss culture–and all are different! European nations speak different languages, have different aspirations, different customs, different traditions. Europe is often called a “crazy-quilt” of nations.

HOW, THEN, CAN THEY AGREE TOGETHER AND UNITE? For years The PLAIN TRUTH has said these nations are going to have to realize their inability to unite themselves politically-to choose a common political-military Leader that all can trust. They are going to finally face the fact they must look to a Supreme Authority they can all trust! That Supreme Authority cannot be a politician, or a general (De Gaulle is both). The only possible answer is a Religious Leader! (Armstrong HW. Personal. Plain Truth, November 1965, pp.1-2)

Notice something from 1971 from the late evangelist Raymond McNair:

Bible prophecy clearly shows that Britain will not be one of the … NATIONS comprising the final United States of Europe (McNair R. A Strong United Europe. Tomorrow’s World, February 1970, p. 17).

Back in 1971, the old WCG had the following in an article titled Rising World Colossus by Gene Hogberg:

Envision the startling future of Western Europe… A “United States of Europe” possessing one single currency – a currency so strong that it will replace the U.S. dollar as the kingpin currency of world trade.

The Europeans do have their own currency, and while it has not yet replaced the dollar, the time will come when the world will NOT keep the US dollar as its primary reserve currency.

On June 26, 2007, (see Tony Blair a Catholic EU Leader?), I posted the following:

We in the COGs tend to believe that the final beast power will be nominally Catholic (see Europa and the Beast of Revelation)…we in the COGs do believe that Britain will pull out of the EU…

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will not be an equal part of the European Union. Britain will either pull out or be forced out or at least truly lose its sovereignty. The Bible indicates that the end time descendants of the Israelite tribes, because of their national sins, will be taken over and many killed.

Many of the Anglo-Saxon peoples of the UK, USA, etc. that are not killed will to be scattered and many will be made slaves by the final European Beast power(see Hosea 7:11-16; 9:1-17; 11:5-7; 12:1; 13:12-16; see also Will the Anglo-Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?). That is some of what the Bible shows will happen during the Great Tribulation.

The Bible warns of a time of trouble for the Anglo-Saxon-Celtic nations (Jeremiah 30:7).

The final European King of the North (Daniel 11:27-40) will take over the UK, USA, and their Anglo-Saxon allies according to Bible prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-11).

The 2017 election could be a step towards the UK’s departure and increased animosity with the continental Europeans.

Yet, whether it is called a Brixit or a Brexit, in some way, some day, the United Kingdom will exit.

Many in the UK suspect that Europe is moving towards a direction that they will not like.

But, the reality is that it will be worse for the UK, and the USA for that matter, than nearly everyone currently believes.

Greg Albrecht, for a number of years, has controlled something called Plain Truth Ministries (PTM).  PTM does not put out a 10-times per year magazine called the Plain Truth, however, like the old Worldwide Church of God used to do.  Instead it puts out a quarterly magazine called Christianity Without Religion, also known as CWR.

Of course, Christianity is supposed to be a religion.  The title that Greg Albrecht has chosen seems odd at best.

Anyway, I flipped through two editions of the magazine today, and will add that other than articles by Greg Albrecht, I saw an article by Monte Wolverton, son of the late Basil Wolverton.

Essentially, the magazine in not the plain truth, but a type of Protestant publication.

In his newsletter this month, which is separate from the magazine, Greg Albrecht wrote:

CWR/PTM is a small ministry … We here at CWR/PTM are a team and we are a club.

Sadly, many treat their religion as a type of social club.  And in PTM’s case, they are essentially admitting it, though I do not believe that is the way they want it to be considered.  Many people are what I term ‘religious hobbyists.’  They claim to be believers, but have their own set of standards which differ from the Bible, though they will not normally admit that.

Many who read about religion are mainly interested in supporting their own views and are unwilling to make the changes that God wants them to in order to support His end time work.  And I am not just referring to Protestants, but to the non-Philadelphians who consider themselves part of the Church of God.

4. The Thyatira Church Era was predominant circa 1050 A.D. to circa 1600 A.D. The Church during the Inquisition.

Assisted Suicide Legal in Dark Blue States, Illegal in Red States, & Under Consideration in Other Colors per NickCT

There are concerns that physician-assisted suicide will become legal across the USA as it was ‘legalized’ in California this week:

This week, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that legalizes assisted suicide, making it the fourth state in the country to accept the dangerous practice, following Oregon, Washington and Vermont. In a letter to the California General Assembly,Gov. Brown said he signed the legislation because he would not want to live his final days in pain caused by a terminal disease.He said, “The crux of the matter is whether the State of California should continue to make it a crime for a dying person to end his life, not matter how great his pain or suffering.”

However, pro-life activists, religious leaders and national pro-life and disabled rights organizations are outraged by his decision and have already vowed to try and overturn the law. http://www.lifenews.com/2015/10/07/catholics-upset-with-catholic-governor-jerry-brown-legalizing-assisted-suicide-in-california/

Perhaps it’s not surprising that the best arguments against assisted suicide — especially advanced by such liberal icons as E.J. Dionne and Victoria Kennedy — are progressive. Liberals are generally happy for government to restrict individual freedoms to prevent violence and killing. They are also generally skeptical of the idea that choice leads to genuine freedom, especially for those without power on the margins of our culture.

Indeed, liberal states such as Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and, until this week, California had all recently rejected such legislation. Britain’s attempt to pass an assisted-suicide bill also went down to overwhelming defeat.

To get a victory in California, its supporters were forced to bypass the regular legislative process (which defeated the bill) and instead consider the bill in a healthcare special session, and under unusual rules. This context is as telling as it is disturbing.

Gov. Jerry Brown, despite being disappointed with its irregular passage, cited the pain and suffering of the dying as the reason he signed the bill. But it turns out these aren’t the reasons most people in the U.S. request assisted suicide. Indeed, with palliative sedation, doctors can keep patients unconscious so they don’t feel pain. According to Oregon’s public health department, the top reasons given for assisted suicide in the state are loss of autonomy (91.5%), decreased ability to engage in enjoyable activities (88.7%), loss of dignity (79.3%), loss of control of body (50.1%) and becoming a burden on others (40%).

We’ve created a culture that worships freedom, autonomy and productivity, and pushes those who don’t fit that picture to the margins. Is it any wonder that poll data show that the poor and blacks and Latinos, along with virtually every disability rights group, are skeptical of assisted suicide?

Can a state really call itself progressive if, instead of working to change a culture where those without autonomy and control are considered a burden, it decides to make it easier for such people to kill themselves?

And there is evidence that the supposed safeguards in the law will not be enough to prevent the problem of the slippery slope. In the Netherlands and Belgium, the “right to die” just keeps broadening. An ever-increasing number of those exercising that right are requesting and receiving death because of depression, not pain or terminal illness. One Belgian legal expert has warned that the right to die is “going to become a kind of obligation.” Once the euthanasia crack opened, he said, it has just kept getting wider.

Supporters of assisted suicide in the U.S. argue that slippery slope concerns are overblown, but even in Oregon the facts tell a different story. Suicide is wrong and governments should not encourage it. Someday, humans will be prevented from doing such horrific acts (Isaiah 11:9; 30:20).  Murder is evil, not good.

The Bible teaches to ‘choose life’ and not the way of death (Deuteronomy 30:19).  It also warns of moral decline in the last days (2 Timothy 3:1-6) and that people will call evil good (Isaiah 5:20).

The late Herbert W. Armstrong noted that some who seemed successful in this age, truly were not successful. Here is some of what he wrote decades ago:

Every two minutes someone in the United States attempts suicide. Each day nearly 70 persons succeed—but is that success? The World Health Organization estimates that some one thousand people commit suicide in the world—every day!

Suicides now outnumber murders. Now various organizations for the prevention of suicide are a reality! But the cause is individual failure!

Only a minority, of course, go to this extreme, but the overwhelming majority do end their lives in failure…

People will ignore all their lives any idea of divine guidance and help—yet if one should find himself on a foodless and waterless raft after a shipwreck in mid-ocean, it is remarkable how quickly he would begin to believe there really is a living God! In last-resort desperation most people will cry out to Him whom they have ignored, disobeyed, and set at naught all their lives.

Wouldn’t it seem axiomatic that, if there is a compassionate beneficent Creator standing ready and willing to give us emergency help as a last resort, it would have been more sensible to have sought His guidance and help all along? Yet some have acquired wealth, lived luxuriously, and then, suddenly losing all, turned finally to God in their economic distress. Others have committed suicide…

Is it possible that the living GOD might be a factor in determining the success or failure of one’s life? Few have thought so.

Few, it seems, will ever rely on their Maker and life-Sustainer until they feel helpless and in desperate need. Even then the motive too often is selfish.

Yet, if we are to enjoy the good things of life—freedom from fears and worries, peace of mind, security, protection, happiness, abundant well-being—the very SOURCE of their supply is the Great God! Since all comes from Him anyway, why not tap the SOURCE from the very beginning?

But in our day of modern science, sophistication and vanity, it has not been fashionable to believe in a Maker. In this deceived world, knowledge of God has found little or no place in modern education.

The ALL-IMPORTANT seventh Law of Success, nevertheless, is having contact with, and the guidance and continuous help of GOD!

And the person who does put this all-important seventh law last is very probably dooming his life to failure at the end. (Armstrong HW. The Seven Laws of Success,)

The Bible teaches that one is not to murder (Exodus 20:13). And that includes murdering oneself. Notice also the following:

Is suicide a crime?…

God commands: “THOU SHALT NOT KILL” (the sixth commandment). Webster defines the word kill as “to deprive of life.” To commit suicide, then, is breaking one of the Ten Commandments -and is definitely condemned by God. Paul admonishes us saying, “Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

If any man DESTROY (KJV margin) the temple of God, him shall God DESTROY; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are” (1 Cor. 3 : 16, 17 ) . “What, know you not that your BODY is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own?” (I Cor. 6: 19). No murderer-or suicide-has eternal life abiding in him (I John 3: 15). He has no hope unless and until in the general resurrection after the millennium he repents of his sin (Matthew 11 :20-24). It is sad and disturbing when people commit suicide or commit other forms of murder.  It is sad that more and more governments are trying to make suicide easier.

In today’s society, hopefully more of the depressed will not turn to suicide, yet now this seems more likely. There is hope for those, who will turn to God, but few truly have faith in Him and hope in His Kingdom.

Minutes of a major US Federal Reserve meeting were released and there are various views about the economic situation and where this is heading:

Oct 9 (Reuters) – Wall Street was set to open slightly higher on Friday, a day after the S&P 500 closed at a seven-week high as investors bet the Federal Reserve would keep rates at near-zero levels until at least next year.

The minutes of the Fed’s September meeting, released on Thursday, indicated further signs of dovishness, with policymakers concerned about a global economic slowdown weighing on America, even before weak September jobs data.

NEW YORK – The minutes released Thursday from the September meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, the policy-setting body of the Federal Reserve, show the Fed backed off raising interest rates because of concern the global economic slowdown was impacting the much-touted Obama “economic recovery.”

The FOMC minutes from the Sept. 16-17 meeting echo concerns published this week by the International Monetary Fund that also warned a global economic meltdown is looming as world debt builds to record heights amid a slowdown in global economic growth. …

If global economic growth continues to slow, the next problem is that the “Obama recovery” in the United States has been prompted by the near doubling of U.S. debt during the Obama presidency to over $18 trillion. The Federal Reserve, meanwhile, has been printing money used to purchase U.S. Treasury debt to keep interest rates low.

The concern is that an increase in interest rates by the Fed would trigger a stock market crash of historic proportions.

However, until the Federal Reserve starts increasing interest rates, governments in the developed economies, including the European Union, have little or no incentive to stop piling up government debt to historically frightening levels.

The US Federal Reserve, which is neither a US federal government agency nor does it have any significant ‘reserves,’ has a difficult job, but normally takes one with minimal short-term political consequences.

It has tended to try to prop up the US stock markets, basically successfully, for the past couple of decades.  It has artificially reduced interest rates by creating money (yes, they basically make it out of thin air, by creating electronic money and issuing US treasury notes as collateral).

If US interest rates rise to levels such as seen in the 1980s, the USA would be faced with the situation that just the interest on its debt would exceed all of its tax revenues.

Although US President Barack Obama has called the increase in USA debt ‘unsustainable.’ it has massively increased under his administration faster than any previous administration.

Since the debt increases are ‘unsustainable,’ yet the US government with its accomplices at the US Federal Reserve facilitating it, what will happen?

Notice some of what is recorded in the Book of Habakkuk:

2 Then the Lord answered me and said:

“Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.  (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

Notice that the above is saying that something really, really bad will happen in the appointed time of the end.  That means this has future application.  Notice also that what is coming will be so bad that the time will come when people should run/flee when it does happen (consider also the article There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra).  The time will come when those Philadelphians who understand Habakkuk 2 in its proper timeframe will flee.

So, what is this prophecy related to?

Debt.

Notice what else the Prophet Habakkuk was inspired to record:

6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him,
And a taunting riddle against him, and say,
‘Woe to him who increases
What is not his — how long?
And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?
7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly?
Will they not awaken who oppress you?
And you will become their booty.
8 Because you have plundered many nations,
All the remnant of the people shall plunder you,
Because of men’s blood
And the violence of the land and the city,
And of all who dwell in it.  (Habakkuk 2:6-8)

Those in the US Federal Reserve and the Obama Administration do not believe what the Bible teaches here is relevant, thus they do not have a clue how bad the situation in the USA will be.

I, personally, have taught the end time risks of Habakkuk 2 longer than any living COG leader that I am aware of. And the only Church of God group that I am aware of that has been boldly teaching about this warning in Habakkuk 2 for years is the Continuing Church of God (and the end time applicability of Habakkuk 2 was even in the first edition–January-March 2013–of our Bible News Prophecy magazine; and the headline shown on the front cover was “Habakkuk’s Warning is for Us Today”). The Laodicean groups that I am aware of are NOT teaching this. We in the Continuing Church of God expect to tell people WHEN the time the Philadelphians should flee.

Jesus specifically told the Laodiceans, in a prophecy, that they needed to repent (Revelation 3:19) or face consequences (Revelation 3:14-19, and that they would be rewarded for doing so (Revelation 3:20). The Laodiceans are Church of God Christians “who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17).

As far as debt goes, “The United States has the largest debt in the world” US News & World Report – Jan 28, 2011 http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2011/01/28/the-10-countries-with-the-most-debt). And the Bible clearly warns that an indebted people will be destroyed by people whose language that they do not understand, and that the destruction will be fairly total:

43 The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. 45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed…47 “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. 52 They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you (Deuteronomy 28:42-45,47-52).

13 And the Lord said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, nor walked according to it, 14 but they have walked according to the dictates of their own hearts…16 I will scatter them also among the Gentiles, whom neither they nor their fathers have known. And I will send a sword after them until I have consumed them.” (Jeremiah 9:13,14a,16)

12 One-third of you shall die of the pestilence, and be consumed with famine in your midst; and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them. (Ezekiel 5:12)

Notice that getting in debt is considered to be a curse (see also the YouTube video The Debt Crisis Will Be Worse Than Most Imagine).

The debt situation of the USA is putting it at risk of being unable to recover should it be hit by weather problems, terrorist acts, war, riots, solar flares, severe earthquakes, civil unrest, devastation of their genetically-modified food supplies, food shortages, and/or various pestilences–an intensity of “sorrows” such as Jesus discussed in Matthew 24:4-8 leading up to the time of the Great Tribulation.   Disasters such as pestilences, especially if there is an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (emp) attack or a severe solar flare storm, could be part of a so-called “perfect storm” of events that could set the USA for destruction.

Let me make this perfectly clear: THE TIME WILL COME WHEN THE USA WILL NO LONGER EXIST AS ITS OWN NATION.  It will be destroyed and taken over–other scriptures, like Daniel 11:39, also show this.

The worst is yet to come, but its Federal Reserve appears nearly clueless.  However, I should add that for the USA, its end will not be for at least a few more years (see When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2015, 2016, or 2017?).

The Laodicean Church Era has been predominant circa 1986 A.D. to present. Do you allow women to serve on boards —as pastor, leader, elder, or deacon? Are there Bible verses for this? The Church’s position is a moderate one:

Women serve in various leadership positions, but not as elder or pastor. Many texts relate to this complex issue.

We find the many Bible examples of women in lead roles: Miriam, a worship leader (Ex. 15:20, 21); Deborah, a judge (Judges 4 and 5); Esther, a queen; Huldah, a prophetess (2 Kings 22:14;
several more prophetesses in both testaments); Priscilla, a teacher (Acts 18:26); and Phoebe, a deaconess (Rom. 16:1, 2).

We find general reports of women active in worship and other forms of service. In the New Testament, women were last at the cross, first at the empty tomb, first to evangelize Samaria, and
first to convert in Europe. The Holy Spirit inspires both men and women to dream and prophesy for the Lord (Acts 2:16-18; 1 Cor. 11:5a).

Leading women labored in the gospel with Paul (Phil. 4:2, 3), who cited several feminine names for recognition in Romans 16:1-16. Phoebe (v. 1) is called “deaconess” (RSV) — a female servantleader of the church. Deacon and servant translate from the same Greek word, diakonos.

On the other hand, we also find Paul’s restrictions on women’s teaching and preaching (1 Cor. 14:34; 1 Tim. 2:11-15). Reading these as firm church policy for all times and places can be problematic, since that would conflict with the examples and general statements reported above. In an effort to deal fairly with these diverse strands of truth, CoG7 encourages women to serve in a variety of congregational and denominational roles: teaching, music and worship leading, boards and committees, children and youth work, and many more — while the roles of elder and pastor are restricted to men.

CG7’s position on women’s roles are similar to the position of the Continuing Church of God. CCOG will ordain women as deaconesses, but does not ordain them as elders or pastors.

Of course, after the resurrection, there appears to be no difference in roles that God has for those who were male or female in this life.

NEW YORK – Pope Francis’ affinity for global governance was evident during his recent trip to the United States, with his remarks on his arrival at the White House echoing his embrace of the global-warming agenda in his first encyclical, “Laudato Si,” and his historic speech to the United Nations endorsing the U.N.’s new Agenda 2030.

Behind the pope’s proclamations is a powerful Vatican adviser who is highly regarded among global governance advocates, Peter Sutherland, a non-executive chairman of Wall Street investment banking powerhouse Goldman Sachs who served as chairman of oil giant BP through 2009.

Sutherland’s globalist credentials are exceptional.

Born in Ireland, where he also served as attorney general, he was appointed to the European Commission in 1985 and headed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, which has evolved today into the World Trade Organization.

Later, he was appointed to the steering committee of the Bilderberg Group and served as the honorary chairman of the Trilateral Commission.

In addition to his global governance credentials, Sutherland is one of an estimated 100 elite Papal Knights within the Roman Catholic lay religious society Knights of Malta and a member of Opus Dei.

This report is not a shock.  Pope Francis’ Laudato Si encyclical and the UN’s “New Universal Agenda” are basically two sides of the same coin–they are similar and have the same basic objectives.

So, what does a connection to Bilderberg have to do with any of this?

Here is some information about the Bilderberg Group and its meetings (bolding mine):

According to former chairman Étienne Davignon, a major attraction of Bilderberg group meetings is that they provide an opportunity for participants to speak and debate candidly and to find out what major figures really think, without the risk of off-the-cuff comments becoming fodder for controversy in the media. However, partly because of its working methods to ensure strict privacy, the Bilderberg Group has been criticised for its lack of transparency and accountability. Concerns about lobbying have also arisen. Due to its privacy, Bilderberg is also accused of conspiracies. This outlook has been popular on both extremes of the political spectrum, even if they disagree about the exact nature of the group’s intentions. Some on the left accuse the Bilderberg group of conspiring to impose capitalist domination, while some on the right have accused the group of conspiring to impose a world government and planned economy.

In 2001, Denis Healey, a Bilderberg group founder and, for 30 years, a steering committee member, said: “To say we were striving for a one-world government is exaggerated, but not wholly unfair. Those of us in Bilderberg felt we couldn’t go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing people and rendering millions homeless. So we felt that a single community throughout the world would be a good thing.”

…in August 2010 former Cuban president Fidel Castro wrote a controversial article for the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma in which he cited Daniel Estulin’s 2006 book The Secrets of the Bilderberg Club, which, as quoted by Castro, describes “sinister cliques and the Bilderberg lobbyists” manipulating the public “to install a world government that knows no borders and is not accountable to anyone but its own self” (Bilderberg Group, Wikipedia, accessed 06/10/15)

The idea that many who attend want some type of one-world government is not simply a ‘conspiracy theory,’ it is a reality.

The Vatican, the United Nations, and many others want it and have been promoting it.

The Bible tells of a coming time of international cooperation and a highly monitored economy:

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (Revelation 13:1-8)

11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13 He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. 14 And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. 15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:11-18)

A type of world government, that will come out of war, will temporarily (42 months according to Revelation 13:5) have a lot of power and influence. It will try to have various economic plans, but according to the Bible, it will not be good nor end well (Revelation 18).

So what might the Pope’s connection to a man part of Bilderberg have to do with this?

Well in Revelation 17, the Bible warns about a harlot associated with the city of seven hills who makes improper alliances with world leaders and powers.  This seems to be one more connection that fits.

Bilderberg is one of many meetings and groups that have people who want to form more of an international, one-world, government that is somewhat consistent with biblical prophecies like those in Revelation 17.

Not that they are attempting to fulfill those prophecies or think that what they are doing will be that harmful. Since few people believe that the solution to the problems of humankind is the coming Kingdom of God, many look for various ‘solutions’ from ideas and government of human beings instead of God.

Despite what may be good intentions of many, the type of international ‘one-world’ government that many want is warned against in the Bible and will be replaced by Jesus, who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords:

11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”

19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh. (Revelation 19:11-21)

Those who support the Beast power in the end will not fare well.  The poltical-religious cooperation we are seeing develop now is not what God wills.

Are some of God’s people actually going to flee right before the tribulation? According to Jesus, the answer is yes.

Jesus taught:

20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no nor ever shall be” (Matthew 24:20-21, NKJV throughout, unless otherwise indicated).

Let this be perfectly clear, there are two groups of God’s people mentioned in Revelation 12–one which goes to a place of safety and one which does not. It states:

14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15 So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 12:14-17).

The above shows that the church (symbolized by a woman) has to “fly into the wilderness to her place.” Being in heaven with Jesus is not the same as being in any wilderness–hence this is not some type of “rapture” as many Protestants believe in. Also notice that the church “is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.” Hence, this is how Jesus is intending to keep His Philadelphia Church “from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world” (3:10)–this “hour of trial,” this “time and times and half a time” includes the period of the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord.

Notice also that since a flood of water is used to try to destroy the church, but is helped by the earth, that the church is NOT in heaven, but on the earth.

Carefully notice that just keeping the commandments of God and having the testimony of Jesus Christ is not enough to insure that one will go “into the wilderness,” be “nourished,” and protected “from the presence of the serpent.” The dragon, through the Beast power, will “make war” with those who do not go. For “the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time” (Daniel 7:25)–again the time period the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord.

Where could the promised place of protection be?

David wrote, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock” (Psalm 27:5). This may have a dual meaning. It may be referring to the tribulation and may also be referring to an interesting event in David’s life. David was hiding in the woods from Saul (I Samuel 23:19), and “When Saul and his men went to seek him, they told David. Therefore he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon…So David made haste to get away from Saul…so they called that place the Rock of Escape” (I Samuel 23:25,26,28). The word translated ‘Rock’ is Sela and the word translated as ‘rock’ are derivatives of the same word. Thus there was a Sela of Escape for David.

Jesus taught, “And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath” (Matthew 24:20) which is consistent with Revelation 12:14 which clearly states that it is a place to go to, it is in the wilderness, and it is away from the presence of the serpent. The word translated as wilderness, is translated as desert in the NIV. This word is eremos, which Strong’s defines as lonesome, waste, desert, desolate, solitary, wilderness. Thus, it is not protection in our own houses (as some have erroneously suggested), nor is it protection in a large city. It is somewhere in the wilderness.

Let’s fully quote Isaiah 16:1-4,

1 Send the lamb to the ruler of the land,
From Sela to the wilderness,
To the mount of the daughter of Zion.
2 For it shall be as a wandering bird thrown out of the nest;
So shall be the daughters of Moab at the fords of the Arnon.

3 “Take counsel, execute judgment;
Make your shadow like the night in the middle of the day;
Hide the outcasts,
Do not betray him who escapes.
4 Let My outcasts dwell with you, O Moab;
Be a shelter to them from the face of the spoiler.
For the extortioner is at an end,
Devastation ceases,
The oppressors are consumed out of the land..

From these verses, we learn that Moab hides the outcasts, those who escape and then wander–this could be God’s people as Jesus told them “pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape” (Luke 21:36). The fact that they are called wanderers suggests that perhaps they do not start in Petra. It could refer to the fact that they are from many lands and/or that they have wandered to different places before coming to ‘Moab.’

We have seen that this place has something to do with Moab, Sela, and the wilderness. We know that some of the area that once was Moab is modern Jordan (while there also used to be Edomites there, we in the COGs tend to feel they moved much further north). We also know that Sela means rock. It is called Petra in Greek, which also means rock. There is a deserted town in Jordan named Petra, which is the place called Sela in Isaiah. Petra is not a city itself, and is in a lonesome, rocky, desert wilderness that contains caves. It is possible that some other place on Earth also meets these criteria, but thus far Petra appears to be the leading candidate.

The scriptures that precede Isaiah 16 may also provide a clue. Notice:

10 Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, From the terror of the Lord And the glory of His majesty. (Isaiah 2:10)

They will carry away to the Brook of the Willows. For the cry has gone all around the borders of Moab, Its wailing to Eglaim And its wailing to Beer Elim. For the waters of Dimon will be full of blood; Because I will bring more upon Dimon, Lions upon him who escapes from Moab, And on the remnant of the land (Isaiah 15:7-9).

It is possible that the term “Brook (Hebrew nachal which indicates a stream, flood, or similar) of Willows” (Hebrew arab’) may be a reference to the area near Petra called Wadi al-Arabah (which some claim means something like “valley of the desert” or perhaps “drainage area of willows”). Wadi al-Arabah is also called Wadi al Jayb.

As Wadi al-Arabah is about 180 kilometers long, from the southern shore of the Dead Sea to Al Aqabah in the south (hence it is in Jordan, though some of it may be in Israeli territory), it runs past Petra to the west and it is somewhat close enough to Petra to “carry away to.”

A Wadi is supposed to be some type of drainage area (or simply a low area or valley that drains when flooded).

A small one closest to Petra seems to be Wadi Musa (“valley of Moses”)–which is currently not wet–but on a map it looks like it would drain into Wadi al-Arabah if wet enough. But it is possible that since the name Wadi implied a wet area when it was given, that this “Brook of the Willows” includes the area of Petra. But this is uncertain–but again these verses in Isaiah 15, like those in Isaiah 16 do also indicate that perhaps some area in Jordan is involved.

Christians may wander in that area as well.

Interestingly, Jeremiah wrote:

You who dwell in Moab, Leave the cities and dwell in the rock, And be like the dove which makes her nest in the sides of the cave’s mouth (Jeremiah 48:28).

For thus says the LORD: “Behold, one shall fly like an eagle, And spread his wings over Moab…” (Jeremiah 48:40).

It should also be noted that Petra is south, south-east of Jerusalem, which, as we saw earlier, is a possible direction for the place to be. Other than the aspect of caves (which does not mention the amount of caves), it should be noted, that many other areas in Jordan also are in the right direction and fit the description of the place–so it is possible that the Church may flee into Jordan and not stay in Petra, but somewhere else in Jordan or a neighboring area.

It may be of interest to note that although Moab (somewhat associated with modern Jordan) is likely to somewhat support the upcoming King of the South (Daniel 11:40), Moab ends up escaping the punishment by the final King of the North (Daniel 11:40-43)–and possibly God allows this escape because the place of protection may be in their land (though the King of the North would likely believe that there are other reasons, including political ones).

There is another passage of scripture that may be alluding to a Jordanian location for the place, which states,

5 If you have run with footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they have wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of Jordan? 6 For even you brothers, the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; Yes they have called a multitude after you. Do not believe them, even though they speak smooth words to you” (Jeremiah 12:5-6).

The implication to God’s people is if you are having a difficult time living in a relatively peaceful land, what will happen to you when you are being pursued by ‘a multitude’ in the ‘floodplain of Jordan’?

Remember, the serpent spews out a flood to try to destroy those who flee to the wilderness (Revelation 12:14-15). Thus it is possible that this is why Jeremiah is warning God’s people about how they will do in the ‘floodplain of Jordan’ (most any map suggests this floodplain looks like it is east of Jerusalem, God’s people would probably need to cross it if they arrive in Jerusalem and head towards Petra). They will also have lessons to learn.

The idea that those going to the place will undergo final training is one that we in the Continuing Church of God also embrace. We do not believe that the faithful are simply going to save their physical lives, but to be trained so that they can be more effective servants of God. To learn to better spread the love of God to more of humanity.

Many people have questions about the Bible in general and the first several chapters of the Book of Genesis in particular.

The first six chapters of Genesis present a sum­mary of vital high points of approximately the first 1600-1700 years of mankind — from Adam’s creation to just before Noah’s Flood (details on calculations can be found in the article Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?).

In this basic summary of events, many details have been omitted. However, God saw to it that what we really needed to know was preserved for us today. Enough was recorded to show that mankind was instructed of God in the way that would cause every good effect — peace, happiness, prosperity, comfort, an interesting life, abundant well­ being.

We in the Continuing Church of God have looked at various questions that were taken from authentic letters emanating from Ambassador College sponsored programs and publications or received as emails by us. This particular set of questions and answer is an update strongly based upon those in the 1973 booklet (shown above) written by the late John Ross Schroeder, but with most answers partially updated by Dr. Bob Thiel in 2014. Biblical quotes are from the KJV unless otherwise noted.

• “Can you give me information on prehistoric man? Did God make other men before Adam?”

As used by critical historians, “prehistoric time” is said to refer to earliest antiquity nowhere documented in written records. But the Bible records, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Here is a documented account reaching back to the beginning of time. “Prehistoric time,” in that sense, is therefore irreconcilable with Scripture. It should come as no surprise, therefore, to learn that biblical passages reveal occurrences prior to the time of man.

But so far as modern humans are concerned, the Bible plainly states that Adam was the first man (1 Corinthians 15:45), and he named his wife “Eve because she was the mother of all living” (Genesis 3:20). Adam and Eve were therefore the first humans. • “Were there really such people as Adam and Eve? Did they actually have children — Cain, Abel and Seth?”

For those of us who believe the Bible the answer is clearly “Yes.”

Interestingly, scientists tend to believe that modern humans had a common, at least female, ancestor, but there are debates about how far back common ancestry goes. One report goes back to about the time of the biblical flood, while another claims it goes back 200,000 years. The reality is that it actually goes back about 6000 years (see also Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?).

As far as children go, there is legal documentation of the murder of Abel, Cain’s trial before a judge, and Cain’s sentencing (Genesis 4:8-16). That legal document is the Bible!

The Old Testament is the only bona fide record which has been preserved down to our day telling of the lives of Adam and Eve — of the birth of Cain, Abel and Seth. It mentions what sort of personalities they had and the highlights of the times in which they lived. Christ’s own physical genealogy was reckoned through Seth back to Adam.

Physically, Adam and Seth both were Christ’s ancestors (Luke 3). Jesus Christ accepted the testimony of the Old Testament record as authoritative. He knew that Abel had existed — that he was a historical person. He referred to Abel’s murder by Cain. Notice what Christ said to the religious leaders of His time: “That upon you may come all the righteous bloodshed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar” (Matthew 23:35).

The apostles referred to famous early human beings more than fifteen times in the New Testament. Genesis has always been accepted by true Christians as a valid and highly accurate record of early history. It simply does not make sense to profess a belief in the teachings of Christ and the apostles, and then at the same time refuse to accept their verification of Genesis.

• “Would you associate God with science and why?”

The word “science” comes from the Latin word scien­tia meaning “knowledge.” What we call “science” seeks to know, explain, and classify knowledge of the material universe. God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, is also the Creator of true science. God, in His Word, encourages man to study the true sciences. “For the invisible things of him [God] from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (Rom. 1:20). Scripture also says, “Thy word is truth” (John 17:17). Hence there is no conflict between true science and the true teaching of the Bible.

The Bible teaches that the prophet Daniel was wise and also trained in science (Daniel 1:4-6).

It should be noted, however, that many called scientists tend to make a religion about certain beliefs which tends to cause them to ignore real science. The Apostle Paul had that problem in his day:

20 Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: 21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. (1 Timothy 6:20-21)

His advice still holds today. There are positions held to be scientific that all false that have misled many, such as the idea of evolution as the source of life. Those ‘scientists’ who espouse evolution over creation have ignored science in order to promote something that is not true (see Is God’s Existence Logical? and Is Evolution Probable or Impossible or Is God’s Existence Logical? Part II).
