Billionaire George Soros made comments about the future of internet firms and governmental control:

Billionaire philanthropist and leading donor to liberal causes George Soros predicted Thursday that regulation and taxation will soon dethrone Facebook and Google, describing the tech industry’s major players as powerful monopolies that harm individuals, market innovation and democracy.

In a wide-ranging, scathing speech delivered at a dinner event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Soros applauded the European Union’s heightened enforcement aimed at Web giants. He also called for greater regulation of the tech companies, seizing on a growing backlash against Silicon Valley.

“Facebook and Google have grown into ever more powerful monopolies, they have become obstacles to innovation, and they have caused a variety of problems of which we are only now beginning to become aware,” he said, according to a transcript of the speech. …

Facebook and Google have said they are open to greater government oversight in their ad operations. But Facebook has gone even further in recent weeks, publicly grappling with its role in global society. Last week Facebook even admitted in a blog post that social media can sometimes harm democracy.

Soros suggested that American officials draw from their European counterparts, particularly EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, whom he described as the “nemesis” of American tech monopolies. Vestager, a former Danish economy minister, and other EU officials have recently advanced a host of enforcement actions against prominent U.S. tech companies.

EU officials have sued Google over alleged antitrust violations tied to its search engine, its mobile operating system and its ad platform. So, George Soros wants governments to reign in internet firms and to control them more.

Back in 1949, when author George Orwell wrote nineteen eighty-four (1984), the technology for the type of governmental surveillance he wrote about did not exist.

It does now.

Irrespective of what one thinks of George Soros, the fact is that internet firms have worked with “authoritarian states” as well as states in Europe that the Bible shows will become more authoritarian.

In many parts of the world, governments are collecting the massive amounts of data on their people like that which is alluded to in Orwell’s novel.

While George Orwell did not write about private companies like Facebook, Google, Twitter, or YouTube, those companies clearly do not support the agenda or the morality of the Bible. These tech companies have repeatedly been involved in surveillance and censorship.

The world is getting less tolerant of speech that does not conform to what governments find ‘acceptable’ or believes is ‘truth.’ Plus, it seems to place precious little value on the truth.

More surveillance and more censorship is expected–and it will get really bad in Babylonian Europe according to Bible prophecy:

15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:15-18)

It was not possible to monitor all buying and selling when George Orwell wrote his novel. But as many societies head towards cashlessness, that is becoming more possible. The use of the internet, cellular telephones, security cameras, and other ‘smart’ devices have given companies and governments the ability to monitor like never before.

Sadly, the type of society that George Orwell wrote about is taking shape. Many realize it, but do not know what do to about it. But many can be called now (see What Did Christ Mean – Many Are Called, But Few Are Chosen?).

Furthermore, there is good news as the Kingdom of God will come and replace the Orwellian (Revelation 13:16-18) system that we see being put together today.

Orwell’s 1984 by 2024?

In 1949, the late George Orwell wrote a disturbing book about a totalitarian government called “nineteen-eighty four.” Despite laws that are supposed to protect freedom of speech and religion, we are seeing governments taking steps consistent with those that George Orwell warned against. We are also seeing this in the media, academia, and in private companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter. With the advent of technology, totalitarianism beyond what Orwell wrote is possible. Does the Bible teach of the coming of a totalitarian state similar to George Orwell’s? What about the Antichrist and 666? Will things get worse? What is the solution? George Soros’ comments will not prevent the end-time Babylonian beast from rising up and putting in place a totalitarian regime that will, for a time, dominate the world. Tech companies, mostly unintentionally, are helping to speed up the day this will happen.

A draft EU law to restrain Chinese acquisitions of European firms and technologies is progressing, according to a deputy German minister. Matthias Machnig has said the initiative has found support in European capitals. …

Germany, together with France and Italy, had launched the legislative initiative, which also had European Commission approval and is now subject to consultations within the EU Council of Ministers and the European Parliament, Machnig said.

“It is urgently necessary that within this year we are handed a sharper legislative instrument to resist takeover fantasies or outflows of technology and know-how,” he told the weekly paper.

“The EU with its innovative businesses is attractive for many around the world,” he added. “Firm takeovers are rising, unfortunately often under market-distorting financial conditions.”

As long-term readers of this page are aware, I have written for years that technology would be part of the reason that the European beast power would be able to rise up. Technology is an advantage that Europe has over much of the world–and Europe wants more of it.

Europe is concerned that China is trying to take away that advantage.

The European Union has been investing in technology essentially for the purpose of growing Europe’s influence, improving its economy, and also for military purposes.

Actually, the reason the Europeans decided to fund the Galileo project (essentially a European GPS system that is more accurate than what the USA has) was for military purposes.

Last month, Europe announced it would be providing funds for military technology related to its PESCO defense initiative (see PESCO moving forward with technology)–an initiative intended to give the Europeans a military that can function independently of the USA (see also, PESCO: The making of a European Defence Union).

Europe will use technology. And Europe will use some of it in ways that will lead to the end of the USA (e.g. Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).–this ultimately will be a factor in what could be called World War Three (see also World War III: Steps in Progress).

The Bible shows, that for a time, Europe will dominate the world (cf. Revelation chapters 17 and 18).

But what about China?

The Bible shows that it will ultimately have some type of arrangement with other nations in the far east:

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon (Revelation 16:12-16).

Here we see that the kings from the East (plural – hence more than one country) are being deceived into gathering together for battle. This, combined with Revelation 9, which shows that the two hundred million man army is assisted by angels at the Euphrates, is strong biblical evidence that China and other parts of Asia are at least part of this massive army. They will be involved in what could be called World War Four (or even World War Five, if what Europe will do to North Africa and the Middle East, per Daniel 11:40-43, could be called WWIV–though this is mostly a limited fight geographically) .

China is clearly a nation that biblically is one of the “kings from the east.” Russia, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and others are also probably “kings from the East” (Revelation 16:12) as they all are in the farthest eastern reaches of Asia. China’s Silk Road project looks to pave some of the roads to help get to Armageddon as well as develop some naval ports (watch Is China paving roads to Armageddon?). This project, as I have been reporting about, is happening now!

Note: The literal translation of Revelation 16:12 is “the kings of the sunrise”–hence this is a reference that must include places like Japan. Japan is commonly known as “the land of the rising sun.”

Although China and Japan have often been military enemies, and currently are not aligned militarily, the Chinese want to improve relations with Japan:

China and Japan have sparred frequently about their painful history, with Beijing often accusing Tokyo of not properly atoning for Japan’s invasion of China before and during the war.

Ties between China and Japan, the world’s second and third-largest economies, have also been plagued by a long-running territorial dispute over a cluster of East China Sea islets and suspicion in China about Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s efforts to amend Japan’s pacifist constitution.

While it is not clear how the current proposal from China will play out, have no doubt about it–one day Japan will cooperate militarily with China!

Some time back, a reader sent the following, which is such a classic, I would like to post again:

DEAR ABBY: My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 1/2 years, living together for two. He says Valentine’s Day is a made-up holiday to get people to spend money. I told him every holiday is geared toward people spending money.I find myself feeling angry and hurt that I’m not receiving anything for Valentine’s Day. He never buys cards or flowers for me. How do I communicate to him that this is important to me without making things worse? — CRAVING A LITTLE ROMANCE

DEAR CRAVING: Your boyfriend may be cheap, but he also has a point. According to a report on npr.org, the celebration of Valentine’s Day started in ancient Rome and contains elements of both Christian and pre-Christian religions. In the third century A.D., two men named Valentine were executed by the emperor Claudius II in different years on Feb. 14, and a few hundred years later, a pope (Gelasius I) combined St. Valentine’s Day with Lupercalia — a fertility feast — to replace the pagan ritual. (Research this online if you wish, because I found it fascinating.) The holiday didn’t become romanticized until the Renaissance.

That said, allow me to point out that there are few things more unpleasant than feeling forced to give someone a gift.

‘Abby’ had several helpful points that all should consider. The woman that wrote her the question, should also consider the following scripture:

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17)

Her lust for the things of the world is not Christian.

Valentine’s Day has pagan origins with direct ties to idolatry. All who profess Christ should consider what the Bible teaches about such practices:

29 When the LORD your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, 30 take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ 31 “You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way; for every abomination to the LORD which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. 32 Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it (Deuteronomy 12:29-32, NKJV).

2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe (Jeremiah 10:2-3, KJV).

Notice also want the New Testament teaches:

…abstain from things offered to idols (Acts 15:29, NKJV).

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. (2 Corinthians 6:14-16)

9 What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. (1 Corinthians 10:19-21)

None who profess Christ should observe this February 14th “holiday”–it simply is not a Christian holiday.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for a terrorist attack in Afghanistan today:

January 27, 2018

A suicide car bomb Saturday ripped through a crowded area outside a government building in Kabul, Afghanistan, killing at least 95 people and wounding more than 163 others.

The Health Ministry confirmed the casualty toll.

Thick, dark smoke could be seen rising into the sky from the central part of the capital following the explosion near the old Afghan Interior Ministry building, witnesses said.

An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman, Nasrat Rahimi, said the bomber used an explosives-filled ambulance to carry out the attack in an area where civilians had gathered in large number.

The Taliban instantly took responsibility for plotting the attack. A spokesman for the insurgent group said the target was a crowd of personnel with the Afghan security force.

The deadly bombing came a week after five heavily armed Taliban suicide bombers stormed Kabul’s Intercontinental Hotel in a highly secured part of the city. The raid killed at least 22 people, including 14 foreigners. At least four Americans were among the dead.

Back to back attacks in heavily guarded parts of the city have raised severe criticism of the authorities for failing to prevent the violence. https://www.voanews.com/a/official-powerful-explosion-kabul/4227541.html

The reasons I made the headline “Taliban terrorist kills close to 100 in Afghanistan” is that with so many injured, we may not have the final death count yet. My prayers go out to those affected.

When George Bush was president, the USA kicked the Taliban out of the top leadership of Afghanistan. Yet, the Taliban still remain in that nation. Islamists figured out some time ago that they can often outlast the USA if they wait long enough. Although President Obama said that the Taliban was defeated, it does not act like it accepted that ‘defeat.’

I have warned for some time that the situation in Afghanistan was not going as well as the USA has publicly declared or hoped.

Back on March 9, 2013 (see Taliban suicide bombing in Afghanistan: Considered to be a warning?), I wrote:

Unless the USA keeps enough troops in Afghanistan (which it is not intending to do), the situation there will change to something that the USA has claimed that it does not want. The Taliban, other Islamic groups, and tribal leaders will pretty much insure that.

Officials with the U.S.-led coalition say the Afghan forces held their own this summer fighting season and did not lose any significant ground.

“I’m cautiously optimistic they will be able to sustain themselves,” said Brig. Gen Daniel Yoo, the commander of Regional Command (Southwest), said of the Afghan forces.

He said the success of the Afghan security army and police depended on leadership, continued development of logistics and confidence.

In response to the above on October 26, 2014 (see USA and UK cease combat operations in Afghanistan: What’s next?), I wrote:

The ceasing of combat operations by the UK and USA is not a victory in Afghanistan. It is a pause so that troops can be pulled out. It will not bring real peace to the region. At least some in Afghanistan will likely support the rise of a leader that the Bible refers to as the final King of the South.

The USA did not defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan–it basically ‘kicked the can further down the road.’ After seeing what happened to Iraq after the USA ceased ‘combat operations’ this should make it clear that Afghanistan is not secure. …

Since the Bible prophesies terrorism and we may well see more coming in and/or from Afghanistan.

The Taliban wants to control Afghanistan.  They do not just want peace in some section. The “political solution” that Afghanistan needs is the Kingdom of God. …

There will be no lasting peace in Afghanistan. As I have repeatedly written, Afghanistan needs the Kingdom of God.

Expect to see some shifts in Afghanistan as it likely will give some support to the final caliphate known as the King of the South of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:40-43).

In April, 2017, US President Donald Trump authorized the dropping of something sometimes called ‘the mother of all bombs’ in Afghanistan against suspected terrorists. The release of M.O.A.B. on Afghanistan seems to be another message.  … What Donald Trump has been doing is NOT about to spark WWIII …

The bomb sent a message that Donald Trump would be willing to take military action, it did not spark WWIII, but it also did not stop terrorism in Afghanistan.

The situation in Afghanistan is not encouraging.

There will be no lasting peace in Afghanistan–though a temporal peace is likely to affect it and elsewhere (cf. Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

Afghanistan has been called the USA’s longest running war. And the USA has not been able to bring peace. Afghanistan is a mountainous region that is broken up into various tribal areas. Afghanistan was a financial drain on the old Soviet Union and some believe that this is part of the reason the Soviet Union finally broke up.

The series of attacks by the Taliban in 2018 should make it clear that Afghanistan is not secure. Afghanistan needs the Kingdom of God.

The situation in Afghanistan is going to change.

All the fighting, killing, and terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa are getting political and religious leaders to rethink their approach to the region. But not to turn to the Bible.

The time will come when a confederation of nations from North Africa and the Middle East will form, which the Bible refers to as the final King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43). Political leaders outside of the region apparently will support this. Though this will not end well for the participants (cf. Daniel 11:39-43; Ezekiel 30:2-8).

The Taliban’s latest actions show that the USA did not get the political solution it wanted in Afghanistan.

The Bible shows that terrorism is prophesied:

14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. (Leviticus 26:14-17)

25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:25)

12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12)

12 Behold, these are the ungodly,Who are always at ease; They increase in riches…19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. (Psalms 73:12,19)

25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. (Proverbs 1:25-27)

5 Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way (Ecclesiastes 12:5).

China proposes ‘Polar Silk Road’ across Arctic to streamline trade

China on Friday published its first official policy paper outlining its strategy for the Arctic region, saying it plans to develop trade routes in the region, saying it will expand its ambitious “Belt and Road” initiative to include a “Polar Silk Road.”

The depletion of ice in the Arctic circle, largely believed by scientists to be a consequence of climate change, has prompted a race to develop the region, with members of the Arctic Council staking competing claims for large portions of the area.

However, China is a non-arctic circle state. Instead, it enjoys observer status in the Arctic Council, whose core members include Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Russia and the US.

According to a report published in the state-run China Daily newspaper, shipping across the Northern Sea Route would save roughly 20 days from Shanghai to Rotterdam compared to the traditional route, which passes through the Suez Canal. http://www.dw.com/en/china-proposes-polar-silk-road-across-arctic-to-streamline-trade/a-4231374

Rotterdam is a major port city in the Netherlands. So, this plan is to cut time to reach Europe.

The Chinese continue to look at various ways to better dominate world trade and international influence. This also includes financial influence (watch, for example, US Dollar being challenged by Gold-Petro-Yuan.).

The Bible tells of the final time of the Gentiles (Luke 21:24; see also The Times of the Gentiles). Part of the objective of the European Union and China’s One Belt, One Road initiative is to establish a new world order–an order no longer dominated by the USA and its Anglo-Saxon allies, like the UK. And as far as Australia and New Zealand go, they will be ‘swallowed up’ in a sense by one or more Gentile powers–this will happen during the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21; Daniel 8:24-25), which is when the USA will be conquered (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses). It is likely that China will end up with all or part of Australia (watch also the video Are Chinese threats against Australia for real?).

As far as the European Union goes, it is upset that the UK is leaving it, is upset with US President Trump, has been threatening actions against the USA for intended sanctions against Russia (see Brussels to act ‘within days’ if US sanctions hurt EU trade with Russia – internal memo), and would like to cooperate more with the Chinese as well as the Russian-dominated Eurasian Economic Union. So, a coordination of Gentile powers against the Anglo-Americans is occurring.

Notice also the following prophecies from the Old and New Testaments:

23 ‘Make a chain,
For the land is filled with crimes of blood,
And the city is full of violence.
24 Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles,
And they will possess their houses;
I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease,
And their holy places shall be defiled.
25 Destruction comes;
They will seek peace, but there shall be none. (Ezekiel 7:23-25)

23 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. 24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. (Luke 21:23-24)

2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. (Revelation 11:2)

Notice that Ezekiel, Jesus (whose words are recorded in Luke), and John (who penned Revelation) were talking about the same time.

The time of Gentile domination is prophesied (Ezekiel 7:24, 30:1-3, 34:25-30; Jeremiah 10:25; Luke 21:23-24; Revelation 11:2)–though it is not quite here yet. It will be here for the 3 1/2 years of the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2018, 2019, or 2020?).

When will it end?

The old Worldwide Church of God taught:

With the second coming of Christ, the “times of the Gentiles” will at last come to an end. (Stump K. The Arab World in Prophecy. Plain Truth, December 1979, p. 38)

The Great Tribulation itself is further described in Revelation 6:9-11 (the fifth seal, that seems to occur because the faithful church has suffered martyrdom, cf. Daniel 11:31-35; Matthew 24:9-10), Lamentations, Daniel, and other parts of the Bible. It starts with Matthew 24:21 and Daniel 11:39. Some would call this World War III (WWIII; see also World War III: Steps in Progress and/or watch Is World War III About to Begin? Can You Escape?).

As regular readers of this COGwriter Church of God news page are aware, I have speculated that China may be paving the roads to Armageddon (watch also Is China paving roads to Armageddon? ). Although the proposed polar road does not really do that, it would tend to increase trade with Europe and may have military ramifications as well.

As far as Armageddon goes, the term Armaggedon is only used once in the Bible. It is the sixth of seven bowls of God’s wrath:

1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.” (Revelation 16:1)

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. (Revelation 16:12-16)

For them to gather, they must cross over land to get to Armageddon. The Silk Road project will make that easier.

The kings of the east reference refers to Asian nations, including Russia, whose border extends to the farthest parts of the east–and China which is commonly believed to be part of the ‘far east’ end of the Earth:

50:41 “Behold, a people shall come from the north,
And a great nation and many kings
Shall be raised up from the ends of the earth.
42 They shall hold the bow and the lance;
They are cruel and shall not show mercy.
Their voice shall roar like the sea;
They shall ride on horses,
Set in array, like a man for the battle,
Against you, O daughter of Babylon.

43 “The king of Babylon has heard the report about them,
And his hands grow feeble;
Anguish has taken hold of him,
Pangs as of a woman in childbirth…”(Jeremiah 50:41-43).

Russia is in the north and is in the northern and eastern ends of the earth. Looking at the maps at the beginning of this post, you will see other nations that border Russia, like China. China is a far country from Europe.

Notice also that the Bible shows Babylon tied together with birth pains/pangs to a group from a far country:

1 The burden against Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

2 “Lift up a banner on the high mountain, Raise your voice to them; Wave your hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles. 3 I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have also called My mighty ones for My anger–Those who rejoice in My exaltation.” 4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, Like that of many people! A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The LORD of hosts musters The army for battle. 5 They come from a far country, From the end of heaven–The LORD and His weapons of indignation, To destroy the whole land. 6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands will be limp, Every man’s heart will melt, 8 And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames (Isaiah 13:1-8).

Thus, both the accounts in Jeremiah and Isaiah seem related to the same invaders. This is referring to an end time confederation that has a distance to travel–apparently a type of union of powers from the east.

Furthermore, a “far country” also seems to be tied to the powers of the east elsewhere in Isaiah:

11 Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man who executes My counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it. (Isaiah 46:11)

We are seeing steps for such a confederation beginning to come to pass.

For the final time of the Gentiles to arise, the Gentiles will need to cooperate together against the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies. The BRICS, EAEU, SCO, and Silk Road arrangements are all intended to do that–as is the European Union–and the nations involved with them are all taking steps which align with properly understood biblical prophecies. A block of nations from North Africa and the Middle East will also be involved (cf. Daniel 11:27, 40-43)–this is something that US President Donald Trump and others have encouraged (see How Will Middle East Peace be Brought About?).

Yet, most in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand do not understand what is now happening on the world scene and how they will be affected.

In the American television news, how often have you seen the Silk Road project or the EAEU mentioned?

Perhaps not at all.

The focus of the media is obscuring what is really happening in the world.

We are getting closer to Armageddon and steps continue to be taken that are leading to it.

Vatican City, Jan 25, 2018 / 10:51 am (CNA/EWTN News).- At an ecumenical Vespers service Thursday, Pope Francis told members of several Christian communities that the grace of Baptism creates a unity in the family of God.

Even when differences separate us, we can recognize that we have the same Baptism, and we belong “to the same family of brothers and sisters loved by the one Father,” the Pope said Jan. 25.

“This is our experience as believers. As we grow in spiritual life, we increasingly understand that grace reaches us together with others and is to be shared with others. So, when I raise my thanksgiving to God for what he has done in me, I find I do not sing alone, because other brothers and sisters have my same song of praise.”

Francis spoke during a Vespers service in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls to mark both the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul and the close of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which this year focused on the theme: “Powerful is your hand, Lord.”

In his homily, the Pope reflected on our common Baptism using imagery from the story of the rescue of the baby Moses from the river by Pharaoh’s daughter. …

The Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Lutherans, and various Protestant groups claim to have a common baptism with each other and that they are all part of the same faith, despite other differences.

Notice something from April 2014:

Swiss Catholic and Protestant churches have signed an agreement to recognize each other’s baptisms in part of a growing trend in European and American churches.

The World Council of Churches said on its website some people are a calling the rise of European and North American church body baptismal agreements an “an ecumenical harvest.”

Baptism is the Christian rite of admission that invariably involves the use of water.

The day after Easter, a day on which many Christian traditions receive people getting instruction on the rite of baptism, major Swiss churches (Roman Catholic, Reformed, Methodist, Old Catholic, Anglican and Lutheran) signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of baptism.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) added the following information also in 2014:

The Anglican Church of Portugal (the Lusitanian Church) hosted the signing, which also included Portuguese church leaders from the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and the Methodist and Presbyterian churches.

Few people realize how fast the ecumenical movement is moving.

Having been to Rome many times, I have noticed an inscription, that is shown in numerous places, on the outside of St. John’s Lateran church in Rome:

The inscription from Latin above, translated into English means, “Sacred Lateran Church Mother and Head of All Churches of the City and the World.”

That suggests a commonality. That would be consistent with recognizing baptisms of groups that the Church of Rome claims have descended from her.

Notice the following biblical warning against a worldly “mother” church associated with seven-hills:

1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written:

MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement…

9 “Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. (Revelation 17:1-6, 9)

There are many warnings about Roman Catholicism and ecumenism in the Bible.

Now, having been to John’s Lateran several times, I can attest to it being within the seven hills of Rome. While Vatican City itself is outside of that ancient boundary, its most ancient basilica in the area is within the seven hills. Interestingly, perhaps it also should be mentioned that Vatican City is believed to have been named after a pagan goddess (Vatika) whose name also was associated with wine. Furthermore, it is actually St. John’s Lateran and NOT St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City that the Church of Rome claims to have its ‘cathedra’ (chair of succession).

Years ago, when part of LCG, I told the late evangelist Dr. R..C. Meredith that I felt led to tell him that the first seal of Revelation 6 may have been opened around the Feast of Trumpets/Tabernacles in 2009 related to the ride of the ecumenical false rider of the white horse of the Apocalypse. Behind the scenes actions and public reports are consistent with that. But even if that was not the precise time that it occurred, the ecumenical movement is moving quickly.

The Bible clearly warns against the final Babylonian system which the ecumenical movement is trying to form:

4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast…
6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. (Revelation 13:6-9)

4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. (Revelation 18:2-5)

That is the system that the ecumenical movement is trying to prop up.

While there have been many signs and lying wonders throughout history, the time will come when they will become even worse (2 Timothy 3:13; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12). The world will be deceived (Revelation 12:9, Mark 13:22).

The time to stand up for the truth is now and not to wait until the signs and lying wonders appear–they will be very persuasive. Those who wait too late to truly live like a real Christian will be deceived by what is going to come (Matthew 24:24).

Furthermore, let me add that infant baptism (which is practiced by the Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Lutherans, and some others) was NOT a practice of the original Christians. Nor is how many churches perform baptisms consistent with the practices of the original apostles and the other faithful followers of Jesus.

Let me close by pointing out that common Greco-Roman baptismal practices were condemned by the Greco-Roman claimed saint Irenaeus in the second century (see Marcus, the Marcosians, & Mithraism) and that church writers have long seen the connection between them and practices of paganism. While Davos is going on and the world is watching Europe and the USA, The Guardian put out the following:

Never mind Brexit, or even Europe. The future is Eurasian

Europe is disappearing. Not because – as you often hear – we are returning to a world of small nations, proud and sovereign, but because Europe is being replaced by a much vaster and more interesting geographic unit: Eurasia, the combination of the two continents of Europe and Asia, stretching from Lisbon to Shanghai or Jakarta. The rise of Asia forces us to place the continents on the same level, no longer separated by different levels of historical development. New connecting infrastructure, trade and the permeability of borders are drawing the whole of Eurasia together.

The important question today is not what Europe will look like in the future, but what Eurasia will become. What balance will the western peninsula of the supercontinent – the European Union – be able to establish with Russia, China and India? What dangerous game of influence will these four main actors be playing in the crowded space created by the end of the cold war and the rise of Asian economic power? Influence now flows in both directions, no longer only from west to east. In this new Eurasian age, the notion that Europeans are special – that a wall separates them from Asia – is quickly being exposed as a pious fiction. …

If the great question of our century is how Europe and Asia will be connected, the UK could yet become one of the most important hinges holding the supercontinent together. Let it embrace its immigrant communities, so many of them coming from South Asia and Hong Kong. …

Is a new Eurasian capital being born on the shores of the Thames? A new Eurasian capital is not being born on the shores of the Thames in London.

Despite claims above, from a prophetic perspective, yes Europe is special. And there are important prophetic ramifications of Brexit (watch Post Brexit Prophecy).

It is not that Russia, China, and the others that are normally considered Eurasian do not have a prophetic role–because they do (cf. Daniel 11:44-45; see also The Eurasian Union, the Kings of the East, and Bible Prophecy and watch also Is China paving roads to Armageddon?). However, Europe itself is prophesied to rise up (cf. Daniel 11:29-43, Revelation 13:1-10; see also Europa, the Beast, and Revelation).

And one thing a risen Europe will do is takeover the USA and the UK (cf. Daniel 8:24-25, 11:39).

London will not be a UK governed city that will be the capital of Eurasia–it and the USA will be conquered.

Those who doubt that, but respect the Bible, should at least consider the following:

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain (Daniel 11:39).

The “he” is the European King of the North power (watch also Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?). And in the 21st century, it is currently the USA, and to a lessor extent its Anglo-Saxon descended allies, that have the “strongest fortresses.” The USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will one day be defeated by a European power. Now, that power will likely get some assistance from the Eurasian nations. Yet, the Bible is clear that it is the European power that will rule over the world (cf. Revelation 17 and 18).

The Bible teaches:

7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Revelation 19:10)

Writers for secular publications, like The Guardian, do not accept biblical prophecy as important, hence they tend to walk by sight.

But biblical prophecies have come to pass and will come to pass.

Now, the Bible does show that Eurasia will rise up and deal with Europe:

9 For behold, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon
An assembly of great nations from the north country,
And they shall array themselves against her;
From there she shall be captured.
Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior;
None shall return in vain. (Jeremiah 50:9)

50:41 Behold, a people shall come from the north,
And a great nation and many kings
Shall be raised up from the ends of the earth.
42 They shall hold the bow and the lance;
They are cruel and shall not show mercy.
Their voice shall roar like the sea;
They shall ride on horses,
Set in array, like a man for the battle,
Against you, O daughter of Babylon. (Jeremiah 50:41-42).

A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The LORD of hosts musters The army for battle. 5 They come from a far country, From the end of heaven–The LORD and His weapons of indignation,To destroy the whole land. 6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand!It will come as destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands will be limp, Every man’s heart will melt, 8 And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames (Isaiah 13:1-8).

The accounts in Jeremiah and Isaiah seem related to the same invaders. This is referring to an end time confederation that has a distance to travel–apparently a type of union of powers from the east including Russia, who is also the major power of the far north.

Yet, the rise of Eurasia this way does not happen until several years AFTER the USA and UK are taken over,

So, while the article in The Guardian is correct that Eurasia will one day rise up, Europe will itself rise up and should be watched.

As Jesus said: “And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:37).

The ‘doomsday clock’ maintained by the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has been moved closer to midnight, signaling the view that the end of the world is closer:

The organization — which has 15 Nobel Laureates on its board — now believes “the world is not only more dangerous now than it was a year ago; it is as threatening as it has been since World War II,” Bulletin officials Lawrence M. When I heard this discussed on the radio today, some associated with this were blaming Donald Trump.They advanced the ‘doomsday clock’ last year for 30 seconds at least partially because of his election.

Before going further, let me make it clear that the solution to the problems in the world is not to change the US President with someone else. The real need is for the Kingdom of God.

The ‘apocalypse’ is generally considered to be the ‘great tribulation’ (Matthew 24:21).

While it will not begin in the first term of the Trump Administration, Donald Trump is apocalyptic and has impacted world events in ways that tie in with end time biblical prophecies (watch our latest video: Donald Trump’s Prophetic Presidency).

As far as the doomsday clock itself goes, the late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God Herbert W. Armstrong wrote about it when the doomsday clock was moved to three minutes before midnight over three decades ago:

January 15, 1984

I’m writing from Australia. But wherever I am, it is needful to keep in touch with the fast-moving world conditions. We all live in the same world. And the atomic scientists have now moved the DOOMSDAY CLOCK one more minute forward—from four to only THREE MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT! …

Not too long ago if anyone mentioned “the end of the world,” people would have thought him to be a crackpot doomsday freak. But today the sanest atomic scientists and heads of nations are talking about doomsday and the END of this world.

These sober men are not wild-eyed religious fanatics. They KNOW what is actually happening. They know how the EVILS in this world are mounting. They know how the weapons of mass destruction have been produced that now can blast all human life into extinction.

AND THESE SOBER LEADERS ARE WORRIED! One said, “I am frankly scared!” They are bewildered, confused and perplexed. They see no way to stop what now seems inevitable!

That is because they don’t see GOD in their thinking. They know not what GOD says about it.

Yes, many events in the world are worrying scientists in the world–and for many of them, it is worse than it was decades ago. Of course, most scientists and leaders do not know that God has a plan.

Now it should be conveyed that, to a degree, changes of the ‘doomsday clock’ have mainly been meant to send a political message.

But are we closer to the end?

Certainly.

Notice what the Apostle Paul wrote:

11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:11-12)

Everyday we are closer to the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the millennialkingdom of God, which will be preceded by a time called ‘the end.’

Are we at the end now?

Well, as Jesus stated in Matthew 24:6, “the end is not yet.”

Notice specific events that precede the end. Notice what Jesus was asked and how His answer began:

3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:3-14)

Currently, we appear to be in the time that Jesus called the BEGINNING of sorrows. And while that is close to the end, the end is not yet.

Notice what happens after the beginning of sorrows:

9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

The above has not yet happened. A time of persecution is coming and the gospel will be preached in all the world as a witness. Once God believes that has happened to the degree He intended, notice that is when the end will come.

Then notice some specific signs that precede the start of the great tribulation as well as how bad a time the end will be:

15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. (Matthew 24:15-22)

While international tensions and environmental matters are consistent with the beginning of sorrows, there are specific signs that Christians are to see before the end actually comes. Those who put the doomsday clock together do not seem to realize that.

Jesus said, however, that His followers should watch so that they could know when the end would be, as well as escape what is coming:

34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36)

The Bible clearly teaches that the “end of the world” will come and that there will be specific events Christians should look for which will let them know how close ‘the end’ is. The Bible also clearly teaches that those who properly watch, pray, and live their life as Jesus wants them to can be protected from the coming tribulation.
