White House Economic Advisor Kevin Hassett offered a surprisingly harsh take on the economic outlook, differing markedly in tone from other senior economic advisors like Larry Kudlow. He told a gathering of reporters that he expects Q2 GDP to be the “biggest negative number since the Great Depression,” adding that it could print a contraction between 20% and 30%. …

New Zealand will become the first developed country to end the lockdown entirely now that the virus has been effectively eradicated from the tiny island nation, according to its health officials. NZ’s lockdown will end at midnight local time.  In neighboring Australia, officials in Sydney recently opted to seal off three recently reopened beaches due to local noncompliance. And while Australia’s reopening process is set to be much more gradual than New Zealand’s, several states plan to start the process this week, according to Australia’s Nine Network. To be sure, many social distancing restrictions will remain in effect in New Zealand, even as 400,000 people return to work. Kiwis will be allowed to go fishing, surfing, hunting and hiking this week for the first time in more than a month as the country’s alert level shifts down a notch at midnight. I have long believed that the impacts of government policies in the USA related to COVID-19 would be more serious than many have claimed. Perhaps Kevin Hassett is starting to see that.

Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has said he will make sure the country’s key workers pay fewer taxes and that multinationals should pay more, in a bid to jumpstart the economy as the country eases its coronavirus lockdown measures.

“Whether care workers, security forces, supermarket employees or many others — whoever works hard should in future have more in their pocket. That is a question of social justice but also in times like these it is also necessary to stimulate domestic consumption,” Kurz said in a televised address on the 75th anniversary of Austria’s Second Republic.  …

Restrictions implemented to curb the spread of coronavirus could spark a “human rights disaster,” as some countries use the measures for more nefarious purposes, warned United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.

Bachelet called on countries to refrain from violating fundamental rights “under the guise of exceptional or emergency measures.” …

 Several European countries are taking their first steps to ease coronavirus-related restrictions. While Spain allowed children to go outside for the first time in six weeks on Sunday, Germany allowed small shops to reopen last week, and Italy announced that some businesses could reopen next month.

However, some of the steps to loosen restrictions across Europe have been met with criticism that states are taking too long to ease measures. In Italy, the Catholic Church complained that the hard-hit country’s exit plan still included a ban on religious services, while parents slammed plans to keep schools shut until September.

While United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet is right to warn against human rights violations, the prophesied reality is that such will happen. Watch, for example, the video COVID-19 Leading to 666, which ties in with Revelation 13:16-18.

• The German bank said it expects to report net income of 66 million euros ($71.56 million) for the first quarter of 2020, compared with 201 million euros in the first quarter of 2019.
• The bank also set aside 500 million euros in provisions for credit losses.
• Going forward, Deutsche Bank said it might present a lower CET1 ratio, below its target of 12.5%,

Deutsche Bank said it expects to report a fall in net income in the first quarter from a year ago, and will set aside a significant amount for potential loan losses when it reports full earnings Wednesday.

It also warned that it could miss its capital target in the future, as a result of Covid-19. …

“The short-term implications of the COVID-19 pandemic make it difficult for the bank to accurately reflect the timing and the magnitude of changes to its original capital plan,” it said. However it added that it “remains committed to maintaining a significant buffer above its regulatory requirements at all times.”

The late WCG Pastor General, Herbert W. Armstrong said the following in a sermon on July 7, 1984:

And I can see now, the event that is going to trigger the formation of the reunification in Europe; the resurrection of the medieval Holy Roman Empire that we’ve been looking forward to that is prophesied to come …

But I believe that some event is going to happen suddenly just like out a blue sky that is going to shock the whole world and is going to cause the nations in Europe to realize they must unite! … Well now I think I can see what may be the very event that is going to trigger … that is the economic situation in the world …

Now we had to have an economic system as specialization progressed. And to handle money and the transfer of money from one person to another a banking system was originated. Now today you’ve been born into a world where you take banks for granted. There’ve been banks for now hundreds and hundreds and even I guess thousands, thousands of years perhaps. But banks have to deal with one another and as transportation has increased and some people live in different parts of the nation or the world they transfer money …

The whole banking structure in the United States is a network all joined together, but not only that, one nation has to deal with other nations in imports and exports. And so they have to have a means of transferring money from one nation to another. And so the banking structure is international and interwoven. Things started out with the first man Adam rather simply. God’s things are usually simple. Man wants to make everything complex, intricate, and in such detail that the human mind can hardly keep up with it. And so the banking system has become very complex. And one nation is pretty much tied to other nations in its banking or monetary system.  …

Now when the financial structure breaks down, all civilization is going to break down.

I just wanted to say that much maybe you can begin to see how serious this thing can become!

So, an economic or banking crisis is what Herbert W. Armstrong concluded would drive Europe to unite.

While not the only factors, items like Brexit, disdain for Donald Trump, and US trade issues may also help push Europe into an economic crisis.

The biblical reality is that Europe will NOT stay as it is.

Whether or not it is even called the European Union in the future is not specified in scripture.

But, what is, is that Europe will reorganize and power will be handed over to a totalitarian leader the Bible calls the Beast:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

This reorganization will change Europe!

The EU will NOT function as it has.

COVID-19 has wounded the economies of most nations around the world.

The USA has increased debt because of it, and that is not good (cf. Habakkuk 2:6=8).

Europe will eventually reorganize and what it will end up with will not be good.

But the good news is that ultimately, Jesus will return and establish the Kingdom of God.

Despite the coronavirus crisis nearly monopolizing the world’s attention, Iran managed to draw some focus last week, successfully launching a satellite into orbit using ballistic missile technology. …

As of Sunday, over 90,000 citizens of the Islamic Republic had contracted COVID-19 and 5,710 died, according to official reports, which Mossad Chief Yossi Cohen and others have said are much lower than the true numbers. …

Foreign Ministry Director of Policy, Planning and Assessment Uri Resnick said “it’s clear that the Iranian economy is in great distress and the coronavirus crisis is making it worse. That makes it harder for them to try to develop nuclear weapons and missiles. From this aspect, it could weaken their malign influence.”

However, if Tehran feels “their backs are to the wall, it could promote negative behavior,” he said. …

Iran is waiting until after the US presidential election in November before making major decisions about it and its proxies moves towards Israel, he said.

US President Donald Trump’s re-election would mean “more of the same, which is an unsustainable situation for the Iranian regime.

“I don’t think four more years of these sanctions is survivable, especially when the regime is facing a severe economic crisis,” he said. “If Trump wins, Tehran will have to make a choice. Either go into negotiations from a disadvantageous position and make major concessions, or try to trigger some kind of conflict, especially when the US is vulnerable” from the economic effects of the coronavirus crisis.

If Iran or its proxies launch a major attack, Israel may not be able to rely on the US as much as usual, in part because the Trump administration is reticent to get involved in any kind of war, even more so if the economy is suffering, Oren argued. Somewhat related to that, World Net Daily reported the following:

He continues, “Crazy to Western ears, this messianic creed is the raison d’être for the Islamic Republic of Iran according to its founders and leaders. It is also the basis of Tehran’s foreign and military policies; and it is impossible to overemphasize the Iran regime’s visceral commitment to it. The Imam Mahdi is invoked in every public gathering, both civil and military; he is the singular inspiration for every policy, every tactic, every mission; indeed, he is nothing less than the regime’s reason for its existence and, as such, its singular and unwavering motivation for the future.”

And Schrauger can provide documentation for every single claim he has made.

In the words of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamanei, “The Iranian nation, enjoys a great privilege today: the atmosphere of the country is an atmosphere of Imam Mahdi. …” And, Khamanei states, “many of our great scholars have personally met with this beloved [Imam] of hearts of the admirers during his occultation; many have made a pledge to him in person; many have heard from him some heartwarming words; many have been caressed by him and many others have received his kindness, care, and love.”

The Islamic Mahdi is here, he is known to many insiders, and he is about to be revealed, claims the ayatollah. And remember: This article was written before Iran was smitten with COVID-19. What are the leaders thinking today?

But there’s more.

A Feb. 20 headline in Israel Today stated, “Israeli rabbi says he’s already holding meetings with Messiah.” And, “Israel’s biggest rabbis are all afraid to leave the country lest they miss Messiah’s coming.”

The article, by Ryan Jones, cited a three-hour radio interview in which Rabbi Yaakov Zisholtz “told religious broadcaster Radio 2000 that Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky recently told him that he (Kanievsky) is already in direct contact with the Messiah.” 04/24/20 https://www.wnd.com/2020/04/shocking-end-times-quotes-iran-israel/

Before getting back to the Imam Mahdi, let me state that the only way a Jewish rabbi could have been in direct contact with the Messiah is if he is praying to Jesus or having some other encounter with Jesus–there is NO OTHER MESSIAH. Iran’s top leader is claiming that the Imam Mahdi has given Iran protection for decades. In the past he has also indicated that the Imam Mahdi would give his country victory over the USA as well as Israel.

The current president of Iran has credited the Imam Mahdi for his election.

The Iranians are predominantly Shi’ite Muslims and their views differ from the Sunnis, which are the biggest group of Muslims. Here is some of what Wikipedia reported about the Sunni view:

Sunnis believe that the Mahdi has not yet been born, and therefore his exact identity is only known to Allah. Aside from the Mahdi’s precise, genealogy, Sunnis accept many of the same hadiths Shias accept about the predictions regarding the Mahdi’s emergence, his acts, and his universal Khilafat. Sunnis also have a few more Mahdi hadiths which are not present in Shia collections.

Basically, while I do not believe that any in the COGs believe that the Imam Mahdi is in some type of suspended animation that the Shi’ites tend to believe, groups like the Continuing Church of God believe that the leader that the Bible refers to as the final King of the South may very well hold the title of Mahdi (but more like the Sunni version).

Notice also the following:

But who is the “king of the south”?…in verse 40 we skip to “the time of the end”…The verse undoubtedly found partial fulfillment in the offensive of 1896…But Mussolini did not finish the prophecy…Just as there is yet to be a final “king of the north”…there may very well emerge in the same manner a final “king of the south”–an overall leader of an Arab-Moslem confederation, possibly bearing the very title Mahdi…a prophetic psalm (Psalm 83) provides additional insight into the Mideast picture. Germany (Assyria in Bible prophecy) and perhaps the rest of Europe will be in league in the future with a union of Arab nations…But in the end, this European-Arab alliance will prove short-lived…And the king of the north shall come against him [the king of the south]…Daniel 11:40-41…The Arab-Moslem Confederation will, of course, be thrown into chaotic disarray in the fact of invasion. (Stump K. The Arab World in Prophecy. Plain Truth, December 1979, pp. 11-12).

Interestingly, within Islam, there is a belief that someone who sounds like the biblical “King of the South” of Daniel 11…, who they tend to call the Mahdi or 12^th Imam will participate in a deal like the one in Daniel 9:27… Some in Islam seem to believe that the reign of the Beast and Antichrist will happen after the Mahdi’s death. Now this is true, to a degree, for the Arab lands. However, the Beast (King of the North) and the final Antichrist (False Prophet) will rule in Europe and in some of the American land, prior to the European reign over Arab lands (hence the final Antichrist will have power prior to the death of the biblical King of the South, who seems to be the Islamic Mahdi). (Thiel B. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect. Nazarene Books, 2009, pp. 83, 135)

An Islamic leader of a coming Islamic confederation, whether called a Caliph, Imam Mahdi, Sheik, Prime Minister, President, and/or King will rise up.

Some in Islam have taught several things about the Mahdi that suggest that he is the King of the South of the Bible. Notice the following:

Rasaullah [Muhammed] said: “There will be four peace agreements between you and the Romans [Christians]. The fourth agreement will be mediated through a person who will be the progeny of Hadrat Haroon [Honorable Aaron — Moses’ brother] and will be upheld for seven years (Richardson J. Antichrist: Islam’s Awaited Messiah. Pleasant Word, 2006, p. 48)

The above sounds similar to the seven year (one week in biblical language) agreement discussed in Daniel 9:27 that involves a “prince” who appears to be the one the Bible warns will become the King of the North and apparently the nation of Israel. It certainly would make sense that there would be Muslim representation in a peace deal.

However, the Bible shows that this deal will be broken (Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27) and the King of the North will invade Jerusalem (Daniel 11:31) and ultimately the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43). Notice that this too, however, seems to be consistent with some Islamic prophecy:

5 General anarchy and bloodshed, that no Arab household will be spared from it 6 Then a life of peace as a result of a peace agreement between you and the Banil Asfaar (Romans) which they will break and attack you with a force consisting of eighty flags and under each flag will be an army of twelve thousand men. Notice that not only biblical and Catholic prophecy indicate that the King of the South/Great Arab will be betrayed, even Islam indicates that the Roman “Catholics” will turn against the Madhi (and then the powers of Antichrist, according to another Islamic writing, will reign–see below).

If the Madhi is supposed to be betrayed, why would any Muslims support him?

There are several reasons for this.

The first is that it is a tenant of Islam to “believe in the last days,” hence the understanding is that Islamic prophecies are to be believed (even though most Shi’a and Sunni disagree on the specifics).

The second is that many expect that the Madhi will make the world Islamic:

The Madhi will be victorius and eradicate those pigs and gods and the idols of this time…

The Mahdi … will cause Islam to be the only religion practiced on the Earth (Richardson J. Antichrist: Islam’s Awaited Messiah. Pleasant Word, 2006, pp. 46,50-51)

(Although this will not happen, it is likely that more of certain regions of the world will embrace Islam for a while).

The third is that certain Muslims believe that Jesus returns after the Mahdi and hence that the Madhi is a necessary step. Notice the following:

The last days, as described in Islam, are marked by the figures of Gog and Magog (Juj wa Jajuj), the Mahdi, the Antichrist (Dajjal), and Jesus…Gog and Magog, representing the forces of chaos, have been kept at bay…At the end of time, chaos will break through the wall of Divinely imposed order, and the world will succumb to “outer darkness”. At the same time, it is believed, there will be a countercurrent, or a brief return to the state of spiritual lucidity and primordial integrity that obtained at the dawn of time. This is the reign of the Mahdi, the “rightly guided one”…

The reign of the Mahdi will be followed by that of the Antichrist… once the Antichrist has led away his followers, Jesus will then come to destroy the Antichrist in the closing moments of the cosmic drama.

Belief in the Mahdi has been rejected by noted Sunni authorities… (Glasse C. New Encyclopedia of Islam: A Revised Edition of the Concise Encyclopedia of Islam, 3rd edition, 2008, pp. 143, 316).

Some in Islam seem to essentially understand that the reign of the Beast and Antichrist will happen after the Mahdi’s death. Now this is true, for the Arab lands. However, the Beast (King of the North) will rule in Europe and in some of the American lands prior to his reign over Arab lands as the Great Tribulation begins with Daniel 11:39, and not Daniel 11:40 when the Kings of the North and South fight.

But, let it be pointed out that the coming King of the South is NOT Iran. But I expect Iran to take destructive steps before we see the events involving the King of the South in Daniel 40-43.

Anyway, though certain statements from Iran may seem shocking, the Iranians have long wanted chaos to pave the way for their hope to conquer Jerusalem.

As Iran gets more desperate, consider that Iran may take steps to fulfill prophesies such as those found in Isaiah 22.

Groundhog Day Celebration in Punxsutawney (Wikipedia)

There is an odd observance in North America that is called Groundhog Day:

Groundhog Day … is a popular American tradition observed in the United States and Canada on February 2nd. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks; but if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early.

So, no this is not a biblical holiday, so why mention it?

Well, in 1993, there was a movie starring Bill Murray titled Groundhog Day. Since coming out, it has become a cultural icon, in a sense, in the USA and elsewhere.

Yes, the USA is a failing state. It was failing before Donald Trump and before COVID-19, but note the rate is accelerating.

As far as COVID-19 goes, here are some updated statistics:

More than 200,000 people worldwide have been reported dead as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a tally by John Hopkins University.

As of Saturday afternoon, 2.8 million people have tested positive for the virus globally. The death toll is compiled from government health departments but public health officials have warned that until widespread testing is available, it’s likely the actual figures are much higher.

In the U.S., 926,442 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and 53,184 deaths have been reported. Unconstitutional lockdowns, increasing debt, and upsetting the world community related to steps taken for COVID-19 has not escaped notice of the world.

Biological Warfare and Prophecy Is biological warfare possible? Was it prophesied? Scientists have long warned that pathogenic organisms like the coronavirus could be weaponized. With no variations or aberrations between the Old Testament predictions of the coming Messiah and the New Testament fulfillment in Jesus of Nazareth, one instinctively leaps to the conclusion that “the Hand that drew the Image in prophecy moulded the Portrait in history”; and the inevitable conclusion to this miracle is fourfold:

(3) It demonstrates that the God of the Bible is both all-knowing to be able to foretell the future entwined around numberless men who are free moral agents, and all-powerful, to be able to bring to pass a perfect fulfillment of His word in the midst of widespread unbelief, ignorance and rebellion on the part of men.

(4) It demonstrates that the Person, Jesus of Nazareth, who so perfectly and completely fulfilled all the Old Testament predictions is indeed the Messiah, the Saviour of the world, the Son of the Living God. …

Fulfilled Prophecy Is Unique to the Bible

The fact of fulfilled prophecy is found in the Bible alone; hence, it presents proof of Divine inspiration that is positive, conclusive, overwhelming. Here is the argument in brief: no man, unaided by Divine inspiration, foreknows the future, for it is an impenetrable wall, a true “iron curtain,” to all mankind. Only an almighty and an allknowing God can in-fallibly predict the future. If then one can find true prophecy (as one does in the Bible), with definite fulfillment, with sufficient time intervening between the prediction and the fulfillment, and with explicit details in the prediction to assure that the prophecies are not clever guesses, then the case is perfect and unanswerable. Remember, there were 400 years between the last of the Messianic predictions of the Old Testament and their fulfillment in the Christ of the Gospels.3 Many prophecies are of course much older than 400 B. C. During the period of 1100 years, from the age of Moses (1500 B.C.) to that of Malachi (400 B.C.), a succession of prophets arose, Messianic prediction took form, and all of them testified of the Messiah who was to come.

So minute and so voluminous are these Old Testament pre-dictions and so complete is their fulfillment in the New Testament, that Dr. A. T. Pierson says, “There would be no honest infidel in the world were Messianic prophecy studied . . . nor would there be any doubting disciples if this fact of prediction and fulfillment were fully understood.” “And,” he continues, “the sad fact is, we have yet to meet the first honest skeptic or critic who has carefully studied the prophecies which center in Christ” (Many Infallible Proofs).

“Prophecy” Is God’s Own Method of Proving His Truth

The teachings of the Bible are so peculiar and different from all other religions, … In challenging the false gods of Isaiah’s time, the true God said: “Produce your cause . . . bring forth your strong reasons . . .show us what shall happen . . . declare us things for to come. Show us things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods” (Isa.41: 21-23).

There are false faiths like Mohammedanism and Buddhism that have tried to prop up their claims on pretended miracles, but neither these, nor any other religion in the history of the world, except the Bible, have ever ventured to frame prophecies.

It is the peculiar “glory” of the Almighty, the all-knowing God, who is “the Lord, the Creator” (Isa. 40:28) to “declare new things before they spring forth” (Isa. 42:8-9) and that glory He will not share with another (Isa. 42:8). The true God alone foreknows and foretells the future. And He has chosen to confine his foretelling to the pages of Scripture.” 5Though there are many other subjects of Divine Prophecy in the Bible—such as the Jews, the Gentile nations that surrounded Israel, ancient cities, the Church, the last days, etc., the divine perfections of foreknowledge and fulfillment can be seen better in the realm of prophecies concerning Christ than in any other sphere.

Here is the clear statement that God alone, in the Bible alone, gave true prophecies: “I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like Me, DECLARING THE END FROM THE BEGINNING, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, MY COUNSEL SHALL STAND AND I WILL DO ALL MY PLEASURE” (Isa. 45:9, 10). (The appeal by God that He alone can give and fulfill prophecy, and that it is to be found alone in the Bible, is found in many places in the Bible. See2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Deuteronomy 18:21, 22; Isaiah 41:21-23; Jeremiah 28:9; John 13:19, etc.) …

Since the Bible tells us that man’s eternal destiny depends on trusting Christ—”he that believeth on the SON hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:36)—it should be our greatest desire to tell others these facts, and let them know that “there is none other Name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

Yes, Jesus is the anointed, the Christ, the prophesied Messiah. No matter how much money is offered, people cannot prove that Jesus was not the Messiah. Oh yes, there have been attempts by so-called scholars to deny Jesus’ existence. And yes, non-believing Jews have come up with many arguments to reason around the scriptures. But the reality is that Jesus was the prophesied Messiah and is the prophesied Saviour.

Various ones have discounted the Old Testament and/or claimed that the writers of the New Testament deliberately wrote items to make it look like Jesus fulfilled various prophecies, hence they claim that there was nothing supernatural about Jesus.

Those who think that are deceiving themselves as they are ignoring many proofs.

As it turns out, Jesus made many predictions that came to pass.

1. Consider the following:

⁶ And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table.  ⁸ But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? ⁹ For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”

¹⁰ But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.  ¹¹ For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always.  ¹² For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial.  ¹³ Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.” (Matthew 26:6-13)

And that story has been told throughout history, and is being told also in this book.

2. Jesus, Himself, foretold that many false leaders would rise up and claim Him:

⁵ For many will come in My name, saying, “I am the Christ,” and will deceive many. (Matthew 24:5)

That certainly has happened throughout history. There were early heretics and apostates, and this has continued throughout the entire church age (documented details are in the free online book, Continuing History of the Church of God, available at www.ccog.org).

3. Jesus warned about persecutions of His followers:

² They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. (John 16:2)

That happened as we can see in the Book of Acts (Acts 7:59-60; Acts 8:1; 13:50). Plus, outside the Bible, the Jewish Talmud advocated putting Christians out (e.g. Berakhot 29a). Also, there are records of murderous persecutions throughout history, starting no later than the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero (e.g. Tacitus, Annals of Imperial Rome, xv.44).

4. Jesus warned about going before councils and being scourged:

¹⁷ But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.  (Matthew 10:17)

This happened to many, if not all, of the original apostles (Acts 5:29, 40-41) and the Apostle Paul (Acts 16:20-37). We have also seen this type of persecution throughout history (e.g. The Martyrdom of Polycarp). Plus, there was a major Jewish persecution of those who professed Christ in 524 AD (Dysch M. Historians back BBC over Jewish massacre claim. Jewish Chronicle, May 2009).

5. Notice also the following that Jesus declared:

¹⁸ You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. (Matthew 10:18)

This happened to the Apostle Paul in the 1^st century (Acts 25:23-26:23) as well as the late Pastor-General of the old Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong, in the 20^th century (though he was not forcefully brought to meet world leaders, he did meet with them and provide testimony to the Gentiles).

6. Jesus also said people would claim to prophesy and cast out demons in His name:

²² Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?”  ²³ And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:22-23)

While the “in that day” is not yet here, throughout history various false ones have claimed to cast out demons in Jesus’ name and to prophesying in His name, as well as to claim various wonders in His name.

7. Jesus predicted that the Christian church would exist and that death (called “Hades” below) would not eliminate it:

¹⁸ … I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)

Since the start of the New Testament church in Acts chapter 2 to present, the Christian church has existed and has not been eliminated (documented details are in the free online book, Continuing History of the Church of God, available at www.ccog.org).

8. Jesus also stated:

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (Matthew 24:35)

There are over 5,800 ancient documents, composed of 2.6 million pages, which contain parts of the New Testament (McDowell J, p. 53) and many of those contain Jesus’ words. Furthermore, His words have been translated into at least 1521 different languages (Latest Bible translation statistics. Wycliff Bible Translators. 08/15/18). Billions of copies of the New Testament have been produced in the past few centuries. Jesus’ words most certainly did not pass away.

How many others in history have made such bold claims about themselves and had them repeatedly confirmed for centuries later?

9. Jesus predicted that the gospel would one day be preached to all the world before the end:

¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

Substantial efforts to do this have happened over the centuries. Some have claimed the gospel preaching already has reached all the world. While at least a partial witness has been given to many nations around the world, this will be completely fulfilled (to God’s satisfaction) within the next decade or so.

10. Jesus also made a prediction that was fulfilled just a few decades after He made it:

¹ Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” (Matthew 24:1-2)

History records that the above was fulfilled by the Roman General Titus in 70 A.D. (e.g. Josephus. Wars of the Jews, Book VII, Chapter 1, verse 1).

While skeptics have tried to claim Matthew (or someone else) wrote this after the destruction of the temple to make it seem like Jesus  predicted it, they have no proof of that.

Actually, internal statements in the Book of Matthew (like Matthew 5:23-24, 17:21-24, 23:16-22) likely would have been written differently if the temple had already been destroyed. Furthermore, in Matthew 21:13, Matthew uses the verb λἐγει meaning “saying” (Green J. Interlinear Bible, 2^nd edition. Hendrickson, 1986, p. 756) making the statement a historic present for the temple, as opposed to something that only existed in the past. Additionally, tradition, which admittedly is often unreliable, has Matthew martyred about a decade prior to the destruction of the temple (Blanchard A. Book of Martyrs. N. G. Ellis, 1844, p. 17).

Furthermore, anti-miracle scholars really have no legitimate argument against the nine other earlier listed predictions that Jesus made that have been coming to pass. There are too many to dismiss as simply “lucky guesses.”

11. Consider also a conditional statement made by Jesus after His resurrection:

¹ “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, …  ⁵ Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place — unless you repent. Revelation 2:1,5)

When Jesus said this, Ephesus was the most important city in Asia Minor, and it was a major coastal port. Centuries later, Ephesus lost its prominence and, ended up, via silting, to be about 6 miles (around 10 kilometers) away from the coast! My wife and I personally verified this when we visited Ephesus.

Jesus made predictions about the other 6 churches of Revelation 2 & 3 that have come to pass, that I have not listed. Many of them are in the free online book, Continuing History of the Church of God (available at www.ccog.org).

Jesus made other predictions that were listed in the Gospels and then listed as fulfilled in the Gospels as well (e.g. His betrayal, Peter denying Him, etc.). But I have not quoted those here as some may claim those did not count because the New Testament itself is the historical source of both the prophecy and the verification.

But the others shown here clearly have been fulfilled as can be proven from the records of history.

Ten Plus Steps to Rid Yourself of Fear

Billions of people are afraid for many reasons, including COVID-19. Are any fears good? Are there mindless fears and phobias? Can autosuggestion be deceptive? Can you deal with mental torment? What are some causes of bad dreams (nightmares)? Does Satan try to exploit fears through his lies? Can the weak become strong? Were Christ’s disciples ever fearful? Are there biblical ways to deal with fear? What about spiritual fear and the ‘fear of God’? The late evangelists Dr. Herman Hoeh had an article published in 1955 titled ‘How to Conquer Your Fears?’ What are eight steps from the Apostle Peter? What did Jesus teach about worry? Here a the list of ten steps to help rid yourself of fear: 1. “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8). Changing your mental focus will help you push out fear. 2. Develop faith. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). 3. Add virtue to your faith in the power of God. You cannot hide your sins from God (cf. Psalm 90:8). 4. Add to virtue knowledge. Study the word of God, study CCOG literature, pay attention to sermons (ContinuingCOG YouTube sermon channel) and sermonettes (BibleNewsProphecy YouTube sermonette channel). 5. Add self-control to knowledge. Resist Satan and his hopes that you will walk by sight instead of faith. 6. Add patience to self-control. You may have to go through many tests and trials to build patience, but as you get through the tests and trials you should have the faith to recognize that God got you through them and that you do not need to fear. 7. Add godliness to patience. 8. Add to patience, brotherly kindness. “Let Philadelphia continue” (Hebrews 13:1). 9. Add to brotherly kindness, love. 10. Be courageous. “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). This is how YOU can conquer your fears and worries! Ask God for help to carry out His ten-fold plan to attain real peace of mind. Then there is also prayer and fasting. Yes, through God’s help you can rid yourself of fear. Study shows fall in insect population by nearly a quarter

A study by two German universities has unearthed a startling fact about insects – about 24% of them have been lost over a course of 30 years. Touted as the ‘largest study’ of insect change to date across 1676 sites in the world, the study particularly reported a decline in the population of land-dwelling insects.

Insects like grasshoppers, ants and butterflies – land-dwelling insects – recorded a nearly 1% drop in population per year. Scientist Dr Roel van Klink said this indicated a decline of 50% over 75 years.

The decline in terrestrial insect population was attributed to the destruction of insects’ natural habitats following urbanization.

Insects disappear quietly

The US and Germany recorded particularly steep declines in insect population. In the US Midwest, insect population fell by 4% a year, as insects lost their food and habitat.

“The decline across insect orders on land is jaw dropping. Ongoing decline on land at this rate will be catastrophic for ecological systems and for humans. Insects are pollinators, natural enemies of pests, decomposers and besides that, are critical to functioning of all Earth’s ecosystems”, Nick Haddad, a butterfly expert at Michigan State University told the Associated Press. https://www.dw.com/en/study-shows-fall-in-insect-population-by-nearly-a-quarter/a-53227549

Nature crisis: ‘Insect apocalypse’ more complicated than thought

The global health of insect populations is far more complicated than previously thought, new data suggests.

Previous research indicated an alarming decline in numbers in all parts of world, with losses of up to 25% per decade.

This new study, the largest carried out to date, says the picture is more complex and varied.

Land-dwelling insects are definitely declining the authors say, while bugs living in freshwater are increasing.

Reports of the rapid and widespread decline of insects globally have caused great worry to scientists.

The creatures are among the most abundant and diverse species on the planet and play key roles, from aerating the soil to pollination and recycling of nutrients. …

The losses were strongest in the US West and Midwest and in Europe, especially in Germany.

As regular readers of this Church of God News page are aware, I have covered the decline and potential impact of the loss of bees and other insects for many years (e.g. Newsweek: Flying Insect Numbers Fall by 75 Percent, Threatening ‘Ecological Armageddon’ and ‘Bee Apocalypse Now’).

One concern is that we are seeing the loss of more ‘beneficial’ insects and the increase in more destructive ones (see BBC: Global insect decline may see ‘plague of pests’).

Interestingly, the old Worldwide Church of God (WCG) warned of humans destroying beneficial insects and other life decades ago through chemicals:

Modern man also uses poisonous insecticides, which not only exterminate insects, but also many helpful forms of life in the soil and air. Insecticides also enter the ecological web of life and threaten the extinction of birds and mammals. Even man himself is potentially in danger! (Lesson 2 – World Peace – Coming In Our Time! 1983)

That being said, Jesus Himself warned that the “signs” of the end of the age would include pestilences:

7…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:6-8)

11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. (Luke 21:11)

While the above will likely include human-engineered pests (see also DARPA to weaponize insects to spread viruses across the population… sinister plans exposed by team of scientists), natural pests are also expected to be an issue.

In the sixth chapter of the Book of Revelation, the ride of four horsemen are described. The passages about the fourth horseman are as follows:

7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth. (Revelation 6:7-8)

So, the opening of the fourth seal is the time that the pale horse of death is apparently increasing death by war, hunger, and pestilences (the beasts of the earth).

Notice something the late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God (WCG) cited decades ago:

a quotation from a former Harvard Professor who gave this report to ‘The Plain Truth’. He is now President of the Physicians for Social Responsibility; and this is the quote.

“Survival is the only issue that matters now. The other issues pale into total insignificance if we don’t do anything about it, that is the nuclear war threat, within 10 – 20 years we’ll all be killed anyhow.”

“In the first milliseconds after detonation, gamma radiation would kill everything within six miles [just in milliseconds]. An electromagnetic pulse created by the nuclear blast would fuse all unprotected circuitry within several hundred miles, knocking out communication. A fireball would consume everything within 280 square miles [now this is only one bomb — 280 square miles], in ten seconds. Followed by a blast wave that would flatten remaining structures within four and one half miles, and severely damage other buildings dozens of miles away.”
“If the device exploded near the ground, hundreds of tons of debris now highly radioactive, would be thrown into the air; returning and settling for days afterward as fine deadly ash. And the long term effects are as devastating as the initial blast. If the device exploded on the ground, the surrounding area would be uninhabitable for decades.” …
“The high radiation would kill most, if not all, of the local bird population, allowing the exponential growth of radiation-resistant insects. Radioactive particles would cause ‘beta burns’ and kill plant life. Radioactive fallout would be carried into water supplies and aquifers through streams and lakes, rendering drinking water unfit in many areas.”(Armstrong HW. The Unthinkable Will Happen. Sermon: June 19, 1982)

Notice that the idea that certain insects would grow exponentially has been a concern from some time. Insects are also a threat as various ones, like mosquitoes, carry various diseases.

How serious of a threat are pestilences? Notice also the following from an old WCG sermon:

In Chapter five, of the prophecy of Ezekiel, and verse twelve, “A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with the famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee:” That means one third of our people are going to die in this famine, this terrible drought — it’s going to be, it surely will be virtually nationwide. I don’t know that this scripture tells us how many states it’s going to cover but it’s going to be the greatest thing that has ever hit this earth and the most terrible thing, the most devastating thing and disease epidemics are going to follow as they naturally would, in the wake of a thing like that. And one-third of our people are going to be killed by it. …

When, if God doesn’t step in and supernaturally and intervene — which He will — that no flesh could be saved alive. That humanity would be blasted off of this continent.
Now, what does Ezekiel says about that? And the third part, after a third of our people die in the famine, and the disease epidemic, “…a third part fall by the sword round about thee” (Ezekiel 5:12) and the remaining third are to be scattered into the land of our enemies unless we repent and turn to God. You’re getting that warning, my friends … You’d better repent while there’s time. (Armstrong HW. Radio broadcast titled: Man’s Last Chance )

And, yes, the old WCG was right that repentance in needed. And yes, the solution will be God’s intervention, and the establishment of the coming Kingdom of God.

That is good news.

However, before then, more pestilences are coming (Revelation 6:7-8)–and worse than what we have seen so far with COVID-19.

CDC Triples Number of Possible CCP Virus Symptoms

Six possible symptoms of the CCP virus were added to a list of potential signs of the new illness by a federal agency and include chills and loss of taste or smell.

The US Centers for Disease Control originally warned of the following symptoms were associated with the novel strain of the coronavirus called COVID-19:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The parent company of Lysol and another disinfectant warned Friday that its products should not be used as an internal treatment for the coronavirus after President Donald Trump wondered about the prospect during a White House briefing.

Trump noted Thursday that researchers were looking at the effects of disinfectants on the virus and wondered aloud if they could be injected into people, saying the virus “does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”

That prompted a strong warning from the maker of disinfectants Lysol and Dettol, which said it was issuing a statement to combat “recent speculation.”

“As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route),” said the statement from Reckitt Benckiser. https://apnews.com/697d9ecef7f89cf5e9abb3b008c7faa7

Now, getting back to the CDC’s list to protect oneself, it is astounding that the CDC still refuses to tell people to watch their diets, to try to follow the official US government dietary guidelines to consume two or more servings of fruit and three or more servings of vegetables each day, and will not tell people to consider real food nutrient supplements if they may be at risk of being deficient in zinc (like many diabetics are) or other nutrients.

As far as zinc goes, here is something I posted on Facebook (which is a media I do not use much) 11 days ago:

“Zn(2+) inhibits coronavirus and arterivirus RNA polymerase activity in vitro and zinc ionophores block the replication of these viruses in cell culture.”

So says the titled of a MEDLine published study (PLoS Pathog. 2010 Nov 4;6(11); https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2973827/) that I saw in a link that someone forwarded to me today.

Here is the abstract from that paper:

“Abstract

Increasing the intracellular Zn(2+) concentration with zinc-ionophores like pyrithione (PT) can efficiently impair the replication of a variety of RNA viruses, including poliovirus and influenza virus. For some viruses this effect has been attributed to interference with viral polyprotein processing. In this study we demonstrate that the combination of Zn(2+) and PT at low concentrations (2 µM Zn(2+) and 2 µM PT) inhibits the replication of SARS-coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and equine arteritis virus (EAV) in cell culture. The RNA synthesis of these two distantly related nidoviruses is catalyzed by an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), which is the core enzyme of their multiprotein replication and transcription complex (RTC). Using an activity assay for RTCs isolated from cells infected with SARS-CoV or EAV–thus eliminating the need for PT to transport Zn(2+) across the plasma membrane–we show that Zn(2+) efficiently inhibits the RNA-synthesizing activity of the RTCs of both viruses. By chelating Zn(2+) with MgEDTA, the inhibitory effect of the divalent cation could be reversed, which provides a novel experimental tool for in vitro studies of the molecular details of nidovirus replication and transcription.”

Now, that study DID NOT involve the novel coronavirus called COVID-19 as it was not known to exist then. But the paper was of interest.

Anyway, one problem people have with supplemental zinc is that it does not enter the cytoplasm of the cell very well.

Though inorganic mineral salt forms are often used in supplements, researchers acknowledge that organic zinc is better absorbed than inorganic zinc [Shils ME, Olson JA, Shike M. Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease, 8th ed. Lea & Febiger, Phil.,1994; Cunnane SC. Zinc: Clinical and Biochemical Significance. CRC Press, Boca Raton (FL), 1988).

Zinc itself is generally found in the human body attached to a peptide (Ibid). It is often attached to albumin [1,2] or alpha2-macroglobulin or exists as part of one of the many zinc metalloenzymes (Ibid). Zinc is not naturally found in the body in forms such as zinc citrate, zinc chloride, or zinc picolinate. Generally speaking, these two-word descriptions indicate a mineral salt (rock) and not zinc as is found in food.

Nutritional yeast is an excellent source of zinc because, “fermenting organisms produce phytases that break down phytate and increase the amount of absorbable zinc” (Shils ME, et al. Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease, 10th ed. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Balt., 2006:273). Nutritional yeast also contains certain amino acids (Leavening agents, yeast, baker’s, compressed. USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 18, 2005) that enhance the absorption of zinc (Shils, p. 273).

Zinc in yeast-containing foods is better absorbed and is a better form for humans than inorganic forms (Andlid TA, Veide J, Sandberg AS. Metabolism of extracellular inositol hexaphosphate (phytate) by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Int J. Food Microbiology. 2004;97(2):157-169; King JC, Cousins RJ. Zinc. In Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease, 10th ed. Lipponcott Williams & Wilkins, Phil., 2005:271-285).

Since diabetics seem to need zinc, but their deficiencies are refractory to zinc salts (Cunningham JJ. Micronutrients as nutriceutical interventions in diabetes mellitus. J Am Coll Nutr. 1998;17(1):7-10), food forms of zinc should also be a better choice for absorption for this population.

Zinc in foods appears to have a smaller particle size than that which is found in inorganic mineral salts. Nutrition scientists understand that smaller particle size improves bioavailability; the main point of digestion is to get food particles small enough to be absorbed by intestinal villi (Shils; Whitney EN, Hamilton EMN. Understanding Nutrition, 4th ed. West Publishing, NY, 1987). This may partially explain why food zinc is superior to zinc found in inorganic mineral salts. Most zinc is absorbed in the small intestine, with the majority of it believed to be absorbed in the jejunum; only small amounts are believed to be absorbed in the stomach or large intestine.

High zinc-containing foods include pumpkin seeds, forms of yeast (S. cerevisiae), wheat bran, beef, miso, spinach, mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, brewer’s yeast, turkey, lamb, bean sprouts, tofu, and to a lesser degree in whole wheat bread (Whitney).

Studies led by Dr. J. Vinson of the University of Scranton (PA) indicate that food zinc (as found in specially grown S. cerevisiae) appears to be 1.72-1.75 times more absorbed in the blood than zinc sulfate (1.71 times more than zinc chelate; 6.46 times more than zinc gluconate; 3.11 times more than zinc orotate) and 1.75-1.87 times more retained in the liver than zinc sulfate and is 1.45 times more than zinc amino acid chelate; 3.68 times more than zinc gluconate; 1.50 times more than zinc orotate (Vinson J, Bose P, Lemoine L, Hsiao KH. Anyway, for better absorption, I have long taken food zinc (from pumpkin seeds and specially grown S. cerevisiae) as a supplement–and currently still do.

Governments around the world, including the USA, have been loath to tell the public that they can do more than hide and wash to help themselves with COVID-19–that is a disgrace that should shame most public health officials (there are a few that have had the integrity to tell some scientific facts about nutrients that can help, like zinc, vitamin C, vitamin D, etc.).

Because of my family history, for years I have periodically taken a nattokinase supplement as I believe it can help keep the blood more healthy. But, again, we are not seeing the CDC or others recommending something like that. Note: Nattokinase is an enzyme fermentedly extracted from a slimy, smelly soy ‘cheese’ often eaten in Japan called natto. Natto itself, in my view, is not in the same category as nattokinase.

Sadly, instead of focusing on how people can improve their health and strengthen their immune systems, we are seeing fear and the expansion of government control over people’s lives as the official means to deal with aspects of the coronavirus.

Many people are even afraid to use cash (see COVID-19 aiding in moves towards digital currency and 666).

This is not limited to the USA (watch also COVID-19 Leading to 666?).

The Bible shows that the following will happen in Europe, and perhaps elsewhere:

16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:16-18)

The above prophecies were written over 1900 years ago, and the control of buying and selling was not possibly able to be fulfilled until the 21st century. A century where cash is being replaced by electronic currency that can be fully tracked. And that prophesy is clearly telling of tyranny in such a society.

Fear is a powerful motivator.

However, not only can we do things physically (like eat more foods naturally high in vitamin C), we spiritually should look past the world’s views of many things.

Notice that the Apostle Paul wrote:
