Former Global COG board member says pride is main reason people will not accept a true prophet of God

Elijah in the wilderness

COGwriter

Shepherd’s Voice had an article by Norman Edwards (who was a former board member of the old Global Church of God and now runs Nashville Christian is called “the spirit of prophecy” at the end of the Bible:

“… I [an angel] am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10).

With dozens of New Testament Scriptures explaining and encouraging the ongoing prophecy in the New Testament and with no scriptures clearly declaring its end, one must conclude that prophets and prophecy are something that God wants for His Church today!

Implementing These Truths

In this 21 st century, most who call themselves Christian neither observe the Sabbath nor seek prophets or prophecies in their congregations. A few teach and practice one or the other. Only a tiny fraction accepts both.

The single biggest difficulty in acquiring any truth, no matter how valuable, is overcoming our own human pride. It is very difficult to accept that we have been wrong about something for many years— especially when we have been right on other things. The lessons of the books of Kings and Chronicles come to mind. Each king’s life is frequently summed up in a single statement— explaining what he did right and where he fell short. If we hunger and thirst for God as King David did (Psalm 63:1; 107:9), we can receive all that he has for us—and obtain a good report (Acts 22:12; Hebrews 11:2, 39).

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Beyond our personal decision to accept a biblical truth, we find difficulty dealing with Christian friends with whom we will differ. From our long friendships, we see each other as fellow believers. But our difference in Biblical understanding raises the questions in each person’s mind: If I do this and they do that, am I wrong? Are they wrong? Should I continue to fellowship with them?

These things often require prayer and patience by all involved. When the Gospel was taken to non-Jews, many Jewish believers had trouble with the concept (John 4, Acts 10 & 11). When the apostles taught that circumcision was not necessary for salvation, again, some believers could not accept it and formed a “circumcision” subgroup within the church that was sometimes helpful and sometimes not (Acts 15; Colossians 4:11; Titus 1:10). We need to learn to coexist in peace, in spite of our differences, as the Apostle Paul encouraged (1 Corinthians 1:11-15).

Finally, for members of a church group with a doctrinal statement that is decades or centuries old, growth is rarely quick or even possible. Both religious and civil leaders struggle with prophets today for the same reason they did in the Old and New Testaments. The prophets speak for God, not for the religious or civil leaders of the day. People who always prophesy what the leaders want are probably false prophets.

This writer heard a church leader put forth this argument against prophets in the church: “If there are real prophets today, then we could ask them and know for sure when Christ will come back. But the Bible says that no man knows that time, so there cannot be prophets today.” We should never underestimate God. He is quite able to not answer the questions we do not need answered now. Jesus already explained this leader’s question:

Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:6-8).

Individual believers can choose to accept and practice the Scriptural truth about prophets quietly. But if they speak openly and often, they will probably be required to depart for a new congregation. This takes faith to “walk in the wilderness” until new believing friends are established. …

One can quietly come to understand that God grants the gift of prophecy today and continue to fellowship and serve with the same brethren. But when a believer receives a prophecy in a church meeting (1 Corinthians 1 4:30) or makes important life decisions based on a current prophesy, then division often arises. Is this person hearing from God? Should we take action on what he says?

For example, when Agabus prophesied the famine throughout the world (Acts 11:30-31), should the believers have agreed to send relief to the brethren in Judea? Or should they have been suspicious that someone was going to profit from that operation—maybe steal some of the offerings? Or was this giving simply unnecessary? When we think about it, there is no reason for God to speak unless His people are going to listen to what He says and act upon it. We also need to realize that God gives the congregation the responsibility of judging prophecies:

“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 13:1-3).

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge (1 Corinthians 14:29).

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:19-21).

Hearing from God by a current prophetic word can be an awesome experience. It can be a frightening one. This writer has experienced both. Keeping the Sabbath can be an awesome experience—rest, relaxation and leisurely fellowship with God’s people. It can also be a doctrine of contention with one brother judging another. This writer has experienced both.

With the Judgment You Judge, You Will Be Judged

Brethren who have practiced both of these Biblical teachings know what a blessing they can be. Even so, most probably did not understand these things on the day when they were baptized. We have to grow in grace and knowledge (2 Peter 3:18). So we ought to not be judgmental of others who take time to learn these things.

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you (Matthew 7:1-2).

Unfortunately, many Sabbath- keeping church groups judge others as unbelievers because they do not observe the Sabbaths. Also, many “charismatic” or “Pentecostal” groups judge others as unbelievers because they do not accept the gift of prophecy in their congregations. Furthermore, many other groups consider both teachings obsolete, legalistic, Jewish, phony or just plain weird. We all need to get back to the Scriptures and learn. But more specifically, we need to ask ourselves, if we judge others as unbelievers because of a truth they are missing, will we be judged by God as unbelievers for a truth we are missing? Will God be merciful to us and not to all the others? Why?

Some people dismiss one of these truths by simply saying, “God obviously is not working that way anymore” because He has not worked that way among them. But how many really seek God and ask Him, “Do you want our congregation to meet on the seventh day Sabbath?” or “Do you want our congregation to seek the gift of prophecy and allow prophets to speak in our meetings?”

One of the most dangerous things we can do is begin thinking we already have everything important (Revelation 3:17-19). We must forever be humble before God and realize that He is bringing about His will. He is not there to back up our will or the policies of our church group. He also knows when is the right time to teach each truth to each person. Even Jesus could not teach His apostles everything at once:

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:12).

There is so much in the Scripture. This writer realizes he will not master it all before he dies. But he will be thankful for what He has given, and trust Him for the future. (Edwards N. New Testament Sabbaths and Prophets. Shepherd’s Voice, Fall 2016).

A while back, Norman Edwards also wrote an article Need Prophets More than Prophecy. where he went through additional scriptures. Here are some items from that article:

Do people today have faith that God is able to prophecy through people in their congregations?

1Jo 4:1-2 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

Note: If there were no true prophets, there would be no need to “test the spirits”—because every prophet would be a “false prophet”. But because there are both true prophets and false prophets, we need to “test the spirits”.

Rev 1:1-3 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants — things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

The last book of the Bible is a prophecy inspired by Christ, given to the apostle and prophet named John.

Rev 10:7 But in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.

There is no Old Testament prophecy about a “seventh angel” and very little about a “mystery of God”.

Rev 10:10-11 Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”

Here an angel is commanding John (or some end-time fulfillment of him) to prophesy. It does not say what he is to prophesy, but it will be given to the prophets when they need it. …Yes, God might choose to give one of them the gift of prophecy, but since most such groups and their schools do not seek out prophetic gifts, they rarely receive them. Notice these important passages:

Matt 23:37-39 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! “See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ “

Matt 21:24-27 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: The baptism of John — where was it from? From heaven or from men?” And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet.” So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.” And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

If there was no prophet greater than John the Baptist (Matt 11:9-11) and if the leaders of his day refused to recognize him, what makes us think that the leaders of our day will recognize any true prophets today?

Here is a link to this article in the Spanish language: La Voz del Pastor: La Iglesia de Dios necesita más profetas.

Norman Edwards was the editor for Shepherd’s Voice magazine. He is not part of the Continuing Church of God, where, I function as its human leader (and am an ordained prophet; the only known such ordained prophet in any legitimate Church of God group).

While Norman Edwards and I have long disagreed about aspects of church governance and various matters of doctrine, we both agree that many who are in or claim to be in the Church of God (COG) wrongly do not accept that God has any prophets today and that Laodicean pride gets in the way. We also agree that most have severe difficulty identifying one who really is a prophet because of various unscriptural biases and improper criteria that they have.

Because of false prophets in a couple of COG-related groups and a disbelief in prophets by most of the COG groups, the non-Philadelphian COGs have a lot of severe prophetic misunderstandings.

Remember that the Bible teaches:

7 Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. ( Amos 3:7)

So in the last days, groups who do not believe there are prophets or those who listen to false prophets will not understand.

One thing that I have noticed is that the Laodiceans, as well as those of the Sardis Church, misunderstand end time prophecy.

As far as prophetic misunderstandings in various claimed COG groups that I have personally denounced, here is an abbreviated list:

  1. Many COG groups (ICG, CGI, UCG, COGaIC, CG7CGG, CEM, etc.) do not officially teach and/or do not believe in the idea of Church eras (The Churches of Revelation 2 & 3), though they sometimes teach about the churches of Revelation. They tend to take more of a preterist (past) view of those churches, despite the fact that many statements made to them had to have future prophetic ramifications (e.g. Revelation 1:19; 3:3; 3:10). Because of that they do not teach certain prophetic aspects of this, most do not see their own problems and will have to go through the Great Tribulation.
  2. Many COG groups do not believe that the Gospel of the Kingdom still needs to be preached to the world as a witness per Matthew 24:14 (e.g. GCW, PCG), do not really make that a high priority (e.g. COGWA, CGG), or do so in less than truly loving the truth (cf. Jeremiah 48:10; see Why Bob Thiel Left the Living Church of God), hence do not have the real Philadelphian work. As only the Philadelphians are promised to be protected from the hour of trial that will come on the whole world, they will not understand when Matthew 24:14 is fulfilled or when to flee per Matthew 24:15. Hence they do not have or lead the Philadelphian work. Only the Philadelphians are promised to be protected from the hour of trial that will come on the whole world (see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra ). See also Should the Church Still Try to Place its Top Priority on Proclaiming the Gospel or Did Herbert W. Armstrong Change that Priority for the Work?
  3. At least three groups misunderstand the Gospel and COG doctrines so much (PCG, CGPfK, and RCG) that I question if their top leaders are actually converted members of the COG. Two of those leaders have had major predictions be proven false (CGPFK and RCG).
  4. Many, if not most, COG groups do not realize that the Great Tribulation begins with the King of the North invading the USA. UK, and/or their Anglo-Saxon descended allies (Daniel 11:39; see Who is the King of the North?; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).
  5. Many COG groups misunderstand the identity of the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43), and some have the wrong prophetic sequence regarding the King of the South (see PCG and LCG do not understand the end-time King of the South sequence–do you?). This is not the order that Daniel 11 teaches (see Who is the King of the North?). This view overlooks the fact that since the Great Tribulation is the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7), that it begins with the USA and its Anglo-Saxon allies like the United Kingdom getting invaded (cf. Daniel 11:39).  Some of the groups cling to this sequential error, because it was once held by the late Herbert W. Armstrong, who changed his view by 1979 (Armstrong, Herbert W. The Time We Are In, Now. Pastor General’s Report-Vol 1, No. 15, November 20, 1979).  Since the King of the North will eliminate those of the strongest fortresses (the USA, Canada, etc.) in Daniel 11:39, prior to invading the King of the South in Daniel 11:40, those who hold to this view will not know when the Great Tribulation will begin until after it has started.
  6. Some (CEG, GCG-UK) teach that there is no biblically-required King of the South, while at least one group is unsure (CGF-NW)–but this is an error (see also Is the Future King of the South Rising Up?). This error contributes to other prophetic errors that those groups have.
  7. Some have insisted that the final King of the South will be from the nation of Ethiopia. This is partially based upon a mistranslation in the KJV version of the Bible as well as a position that the late Herbert Armstrong once held. However, he changed his position in the 1960s and 1970s to an Arabic-Muslim confederation. Those who insist that the final King of the South must be Ethiopia will not possibly realize that the Great Tribulation will begin until it is too late (RCG once held that position, but later changed it; in 2018 LCG has pushed involvement, but not specifically kingship for Ethiopia).
  8. Several COG groups (like CGG, RCG, PCG, COGWA) clearly misunderstand Daniel 9:27, the second half of which ties in with Daniel 11:31 and Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:15. Those who misunderstand it will not have a proper pre-warning of what is happening nor likely know when the Great Tribulation will begin. (see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).
  9. Various COG groups (UCG, COGWA, COGaIC, RCG, and CGOM, come to immediate mind, but they are not the only ones) have so many areas of undefined prophecy that they will not know what certain events will mean.  And groups who define matters wrongly will have problems that way as well (PCG and LCG come to immediate mind, but so do nearly all other COG claimed groups).
  10. A couple of groups, such as  Church of God-Preparing for the Kingdom of God and Triumph Prophetic Ministries, have been repeatedly proven wrong about their dates for the start of the Great Tribulation and the return of Jesus Christ.  Those who rely on the leaders of those groups really do not understand biblical prophecy.
  11. Certain groups teach improper interpretations of the 1335, 1290, and 1260 days of Daniel 12 (CGPFK is one) or have other problems with that (most other COG groups) that they will not understand when the Great Tribulation will start. Herbert Armstrong changed his view on this by 1979 and many never understood the change.
  12. Most COG groups fail to understand Habakkuk 2:2-8 and hence are not properly getting the warning out to the USA and UK (see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel). PCG totally misses it, and LCG, while it once would teach it, has backed off because of what appears to be internal politics. The rising ‘time bomb’ of USA debt is something that needs to be pointed out and Habakkuk 2:2-8 points out the biblical threat that this poses. It should be proclaimed and we in CCOG are doing it. Many do not realize that Habakkuk 2:2-8 is related to fleeing and the start of the Great Tribulation, that the time will come when those Philadelphians who understand it in its proper timeframe will flee (see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra), and is one of the reasons for the attack against the indebted descendants of the tribes of Joseph.
  13. At least one group (LCG) is no longer certain that France or certain other Israelitish nations will support the Beast power (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?). This differs from the position specifically taught by the late Dibar Apartian (see The ‘Lost Tribe’ of Reuben: France in Prophecy?) as well as what the Bible teaches (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?). Those who misunderstand this are likely to not possibly realize when the final Beast power has formed.
  14. Many COG groups have various ‘Elijah heresies’ (CGI-derived groups and RCG come to mind). Because of this, they will not be able to recognize the final Elijah.
  15. Some think that either there is no Elijah to come (ICG) or that it is the church and not an individual (cf. LCG), which goes against Jesus’ teachings on the subject in Mark 9:12-13 (for more details, see The Elijah Heresies).
  16. Many groups do not understand the differing persecutions (and other matters) to come in Daniel 7:25, 11:30-39, Matthew 24:9-22, and Revelation 12:14-17, hence when the prophesied wave of persecution initially hits the Philadelphians primarily (and not them), they will not see this persecution as evidence that the Great Tribulation is about to begin. The old Radio Church of God specifically applied the persecuting scriptures of Daniel 11:32-35 to the end time Philadelphian church (see also Persecutions by Church and State).
  17. Most groups that came out of groups once led by the late Garner Ted Armstrong (ICG, CGI, CEM, etc.) do not seem to teach that there is a physical place of safety (despite what Revelation 12:14-16 teaches), hence they will not be inclined to flee towards one just prior to the start of the Great Tribulation (see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra).
  18. Most ‘independents’ do not believe that they need to ‘gather together’ prior to the time to flee despite what Zephaniah 2:1-3 teaches, hence it is not likely they will be inclined to flee together when a group they are not part of does just prior to the start of the Great Tribulation (cf. Revelation 12:14-17; see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra).
  19. At least one group (PCG) misunderstands the final Prince of Rosh. Those who insist on a pre-return of Jesus Christ for the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 will be disappointed as that is in scriptural error (see also Ezekiel 38: For Russia & Iran in Our Day?).
  20. At least one COG group (CG7) basically teaches that most of the events of Revelation have already taken place and no one needs to worry about coming persecution. Jesus warned those of Sardis to be careful about losing the doctrinal understandings they had (Revelation 3:1-6), and this loss of prophetic knowledge proves that those in Sardis will not know when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  21. At least one COG group (LCG) erroneously believes that the abomination of desolation of Daniel 11:31 occurs after the King of the North invades the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43; see PCG and LCG do not understand the end-time King of the South sequence–do you?). Since this will not happen that way, those who hold to that position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  22. At least one group (RCG) totally misunderstands various prophecies in Haggai and Zechariah and expect a type of reunification that is not prophesied.  Those who rely on this and other misinterpretations will not know when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  23. At least one group (LCG) erroneously teaches that the ‘Falling Away’ warned about in 2 Thessalonians 2 has mainly to do with the world and Protestants and not the Church of God (see The Falling Away: The Bible and WCG Teachings). This improper emphasis seems to be leading to a falling away of certain prophetic understandings for those who hold to it.
  24. Some groups teach (UCG, COGWA, LCG, CEG) that the man of sin who sits in the temple of God (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4) is the Antichrist/false prophet, not the Beast of the Sea. Yet, it is this Beast of the Sea, the final King of the North (Daniel 11:35-36; see also Who is the Man of Sin?). So, when this happens, those who hold to the wrong position will not understand its prophetic ramifications. The Beast identity of the ‘son of perdition’ (cf. Revelation 17:7-11) is important to understand in the end times.
  25. At least two groups teach that the ‘man of sin’ is (or could be) Joseph Tkach, Jr. (PCG, COG-FF). This absurd position also partially leads to many other misunderstandings.
  26. At least one group (RCG) has declared Satan will enter a COG leader to make him the man of sin (see Who is the Man of Sin?).
  27. A few teach that a Jewish temple in Jerusalem must be rebuilt before Jesus returns (CBCG, RCG, COGFF, CEG, and TPM teach this, as do some in LCG). While this is remotely possible it is not required (the “temple of God” in the New Testament has to do with a Christian, not a modern Jewish, location; see Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?). Since this will not happen as a few sometimes teach, those who hold to that position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  28. At least two groups (PCG and LCG) teach that the Beast power will consist of 10 or 11 current nations in the European Union (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?). The European Union has 28 nation members with several others hoping to join it. And while it may lose nations, the reality is that if the Beast power rises up when there are more than 11 nations in it, those who hold to that position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin. Under Herbert Armstrong, the old WCG taught in at least a dozen documents (Plain Truth, Good News, Tomorrow’s World, booklets, Co-worker letter, Bible Correspondence Course) that this passage referred to 10 nations or GROUPS OF NATIONS. Presuming it will be another number of nations, those who insist on 10 or 11 will not realize when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  29. Some groups (CBCG and CGG) teach that the ten kings are to be in charge of ten regions around the world as opposed to being a primarily European power (though CBCG acknowledges that 10 European regions are possible). Overlooking what will happen in Europe could mean that such a group would not understand when the Great Tribulation would begin.
  30. None of the Laodicean or Sardis COGs seem to teach that the “strongest fortresses” in Daniel 11:39 refers to the USA–but it does (see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses). Although the evangelists at LCG all agreed I was correct about this, when I checked LCG’s two major websites in 2017, there was no place where LCG teaches this–this is an improper and dangerous error of omission for LCG–and for the other claimed COGs.
  31. At least two groups seem to teach that the first verse in the Daniel 11 sequence relating to the beginning of the Great Tribulation is Daniel 11:40 (LCG does this in its Official Statement of Fundamental Beliefs, whereas PCG does it elsewhere). Instead they should teach that it begins with Daniel 11:39 (see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses), which is shortly after Daniel 11:31, which is also consistent with the start of the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7; see also Who is the King of the North?). Those who hold to the Daniel 11:40 position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  32. The leader of at least one former group (GOI, James Malm–died Spring 2020) has claimed that the Great Tribulation could begin within a year for the last 6 or so years. Since he did not recognize why this was in error, any who still accept his logic will not truly know when the Great Tribulation will begin. Of course, if it someone guesses each year or the correct year, some may accidentally get it right, but will not know enough how to handle it.
  33. Some independents and some groups (PCG comes to mind) insist that the late Herbert W. Armstrong was the final ‘Elijah to come’ despite the fact that he has been dead since 1986, and that death disqualifies him according to his writing about that (Mystery of the Ages. 1985, p. 349; see also The Elijah Heresies).
  34. Leaders of at least two groups (CGPFK and RCG), who once insisted publicly that Herbert Armstrong must be the final Elijah, now falsely claim that they hold that role.
  35. Some groups either do not believe there is an Elijah to come (CGI comes to mind) or do not believe he needs to be a person (LCG comes to mind).
  36. At least one group has confused the final Elijah with the return of Jesus (LCG comes to mind).
  37. At least one group has publicly claimed that God has no prophets today and will not have any until the two witnesses are empowered (LCG comes to mind). This downplays how God works (cf. Ephesians 2:20) and that the Bible teaches, “Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7) (see also How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God).
  38. At least one group (CGG) teaches that the Beast power is not European.  Since the Beast power will arise in Europe, those who do not understand this will not realize when the Great Tribulation is about to begin (see also Europa, the Beast, and the Book of Revelation).
  39. At least one group (LCG) teaches that the European Union will collapse like the old Roman Empire. But the lessons of history and the Bible contradict that (details are in the article Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).
  40. At least two groups (BICOG and TPM) have taught that a US president is the King of the North or could be the Antichrist.
  41. Many groups do not teach much about prophecy (I have received complaints that this is the case for UCG and COGWA, to name just two). How can Christians be “complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and live “by every word of God” (Matthew 4:4; Luke 4:4) if prophecy (which is between 1/5 to 1/3 or so of the word of God) is not taught? Well, you cannot properly do so. This is very lukewarm (cf. Revelation 3:14-19).
  42. Nearly all COG groups and independents do not accept that God has been fulfilling prophecies of Acts 2:17-18 (see also Does the CCOG have the confirmed signs of Acts 2:17-18?). Laodiceans do not accept God’s standards, but prefer their own interpretations on how God works.

Some will come up with their preferred rationale as why not to agree with the position of the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) on these matters. Yet not only is CCOG’s position biblical, it should be noted that leaders in the Living Church of God and/or the United Church of God confirmed to me personally that I was biblically correct on all the above points, despite the fact that their respective churches hold to several of the errors pointed out above. Those who rely too much on a compromised ministry (Ezekiel 34:7-10) to teach them prophecy that is not truly in accordance with scripture need to realize that according to Jesus’ words in Revelation 2 & 3 and Luke 21, only relatively few Christians will be protected from the hour of trial that will come upon the whole world.

As Norman Edward’s article points out, it is scriptural to now have prophets according to the New Testament. But many who truly believe that they live by the word of God have discounted or overlooked what the Bible actually teaches and/or have been influenced by others who have done the same or worse. The COG has at least one demonstrably true prophet today, yet most in the greater COG world seem to be able to ignore the truth about that, like most ignored John the Baptist and others in their day.

Pride is a bigger problem for Christians than most realize.

Anyway, an even more detailed article about prophets in the Church of God is How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God. That article not only has scriptures, it also has historical COG writings that should help people who will believe the truth to be able to see the truth.

Roman Catholics divided about Joe Biden; 19 reasons Biden-Harris Administration would be apocalyptic

Joe Biden (photo by Michael Stokes)

COGwriter

Joe Biden asserts that he is a Roman Catholic as he regularly attends mass.

Within the Roman Catholic world, there have long been conflicts about him.

Notice the following, which are all from the National Catholic Register:

January 5, 2021

I have never been shy about my admiration for Sen. Elizabeth Warren. … Progressives need Warren to be focusing like a laser on income inequality, her strong suit, as the nation rebuilds a post-pandemic economy. …

Progressive economic policies are wildly popular in both blue and red states, and if President-elect Joe Biden makes such policies the centerpiece of his first 100 days, he will build a governing coalition. https://www.ncronline.org/news/opinion/distinctly-catholic/links-seditious-lunacy-progressive-economic-policies-and-virtual

… the incoming Biden administration is offering us a small sliver of pro-life hope when it comes to climate change, which should be supported and celebrated by Catholics. …

One of the most promising signs of the Biden administration’s seriousness in resuming the United States’ global leadership role has been the announcement of former Secretary of State John Kerry as “special presidential envoy for climate,” which is a newly created cabinet-level position that also includes a place in the president’s important National Security Council. The choice of Kerry — who is, like Biden, also a Roman Catholic — reflects the incoming administration’s prioritizing of the existential threat climate change poses not only to the future of life on this planet, but also the national security risks such changes pose in the interim. …

Pope Francis, in his congratulatory call to Biden last …, emphasized areas of common ground between the church’s social teaching and the Biden administration’s priorities, including “addressing the crisis of climate change.” 12/09/20 https://www.ncronline.org/news/earthbeat/faith-seeking-understanding/biden-administrations-climate-agenda-reflects-spirit

Commentary: The community policing model, recycled by politicians like Joe Biden for decades, promotes a dangerous vision of community that further marginalizes already vulnerable and overpoliced communities. https://www.ncronline.org/person/joe-biden

President-elect Joe Biden has promised to devote $300 million to so-called community policing, the central pillar of his plan to curtail police brutality. Community policing is a framework that places local law enforcement at the center of a web of relationships with some residents, business owners, and governmental and nonprofit agencies. Its stated aims are to use an increased police presence to reduce crime, solve nonemergency problems and build trust between communities and officers.

Policymakers have recycled this strategy in the wake of spectacular acts of police violence, from the 1991 Rodney King beating to the 2014 killing of Michael Brown and once again after police killed George Floyd and Breonna Taylor in 2020.

Unfortunately, there is little empirical evidence to support claims that this model is successful, despite 30 years of practice and near-universal adoption among large departments. There is no evidence that it reduces intracommunal harm. https://www.ncronline.org/news/opinion/so-called-community-policing-perpetuates-throwaway-culture

So, we see Roman Catholics in favor and opposed to Joe Biden.

Catholic archbishop: Biden ‘irreparable disaster’ as president

January 4, 2021

Roman Catholic Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, a former papal ambassador to the United States, declared in an interview published Monday that practicing Catholic Joe Biden’s ties to China and his globalist policies would make him an “irreparable disaster” as president.

“It would be an irreparable disaster if Joe Biden, who is heavily suspected of being complicit with the Chinese dictatorship, would be designated as president of the United States,” …

“I think of his intention to condemn us all to wear masks, as he has candidly admitted. I think of the fact that, incontestably, he is only a puppet in the hands of the elite, who are ready to remove him as soon they decide to replace him with Kamala Harris,” Vigano said.

The archbishop noted Pope Francis’ support for Biden and “hostility” to Trump.

“It is clear that [the pope] considers Trump as his principal adversary, the obstacle that needs to be removed so that the Great Reset can be put in motion,” Vigano said.

“Thus on the one hand we have the Trump administration and the traditional values that it holds in common with those of Catholics; on the other hand, we have the deep state of the self-styled Catholic Joe Biden, who is subservient to the globalist ideology and its perverse, anti-human, antichristic, infernal agenda,” he said. (Moore A. Catholic archbishop: Biden ‘irreparable disaster’ as president. World Net Daily, January 4, 2021 https://www.wnd.com/2021/01/4882053/)

Yes, notice the major division between a Roman Catholic archbishop and the current pontiff. Notice that Carlo Maria Viganò even called Joe Biden antichristic–a type of Antichrist.

Notice also the following:

America, the Jesuit Review, said …

Americans in 2020 opted for the second Catholic president of the United States, six decades after John F. Kennedy became its first.

Joseph R. Biden Jr. will take the oath of office and become the 46th U.S. president on Jan. 21.

In his acceptance speech he quoted the devotional hymn “On Eagles’ Wings” with words based on Psalm 91, the Book of Exodus 19, and the Gospel of Matthew 13. in a very public display of his faith.

“He faced intense criticism for his pro-choice position on abortion, including from Catholic bishops, and was even denied Communion by one zealous pastor with a creative take on canon law.”

“Ultimately, however, a majority of American voters saw “Uncle Joe” as a better option than four more years of Mr. Trump, though American Catholics were almost evenly split in their support for the two candidates. 01/01/21 https://www.ecumenicalnews.com/article/barr-barret-biden-bryant-fauchi-top-5-us-catholic-2020-newsmakers-also-high-in-national-headlines/60816.htm

Yes, Roman Catholics are divided. Those who favor more globalism and government control of the economy tend to like Joe Biden, whereas those who consider issues like abortion important, oppose him.

Back in November 2008, Roman Catholic Cardinal Stafford (while head of the Apostolic Penitentiary of the Holy See) claimed that Barack Obama and Joe Biden were “aggressive, disruptive, and apocalyptic.”  Notice what he reported in November 2008 about the then coming Obama-Biden Administration:

Barack Obama… asserted, “We are not only going to win this election but also we are going to transform this nation………The first thing I will do as President is to sign The Freedom of Choice Act……..I put Roe at the center of my lesson plan on reproductive freedom when I taught Constitutional Law………..On this issue I will not yield..”… The content and rhetoric of Obama and Biden have elements similar to those described earlier: aggressive, disruptive and apocalyptic … My use of the word “apocalyptic” would be emphatically biblical, rooted in the understanding of the Book of the Apocalypse. (Stafford, Cardinal James Francis. Cardinal’s Address to Catholic University of America, November 13, 2008.  Catholic News Agency)

Will a Biden-Harris Administration be apocalyptic?

My use of the word “apocalyptic” is intended to emphatically be biblical (not political), as rooted in the understanding of the prophetic books of the Bible, including the Book of Revelation, also called the Apocalypse.

Here are nineteen specific reasons indicating some of how Joe Biden and/or Kamala Harris are “apocalyptic”:

  1. The timing of their administration. We are in the last days of God’s 6000/7000 year plan. A day to God is like 1000 years (2 Peter 3:8; Psalm 90:4), and since it is wise to know the days (Psalm 90:12), this is a reason that both would seem to be apocalyptic. We are getting close to the end of the time God gave humans to rule themselves. Thus, we are close to the start of the Great Tribulation and the fulfillment of related prophecies in the Book of Revelation. There are prophetic reasons to conclude that the USA cannot last for two-full presidential terms.
  2. The Obama-Biden Administration seemed supportive of the type of confederation that will lead to the formation of the final King of the South of biblical prophecy (Daniel 11:40-43). A Biden-Harris Administration is expected to do the same, if not more.
  3. The Biden-Harris teams is interested in increasing debt, which the Bible condemns as a curse (Deuteronomy 28:15,44). They intend stimulus and other projects that are expected to increase the debt of the USA. Increasing national debt will lead to destruction at the appointed time of the end (Habakkuk 2:3–8). They will not be able to reverse enough of the debt to stop Habakkuk 2:3-8 from being fulfilled.
  4. The Obama-Biden Administration often encouraged increased military spending by the Europeans. And while American taxpayers may see this as a good thing, this increased spending will help lead to the rise of the prophesied King of the North, who is to be the final leader of the Beast of Revelation (Revelation 13:1-10). The Biden-Harris Administration is expected to promote European military spending which would help enable the rise of the King of the North/Beast power who will be in league with the final Antichrist.
  5. Donald Trump’s rise has also spurred the Europeans to further unify among themselves, especially when combined with the Brexit vote that Donald Trump encouraged. While the Bible shows the Europeans will have difficulties being together (Daniel 2:41-43), it also shows that they will reorganize and unite (Revelation 17:12-13). Donald Trump has been pointed to by various European leaders as ‘proof’ that Europe needs more unification and distance from the USA. A Biden-Harris Administration will not stop European distancing—though it may sometimes temporarily appear to do so.
  6. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris both claim to be Christians, yet support restrictions on religious speech and actions, while specifically pushing for a sexual agenda that the Bible says ends in death and destruction (cf. Romans 1:18-32; Jude 7).
  7. Joe Biden does not seem to realize the inherent danger for the USA to rely on Europe’s upcoming Galileo “GPS” for part of the U.S.A.’s military defense. This would appear to give the rising European power a unique offensive and defensive capability against the U.S.A. (cf. Daniel 11:39; Revelation 13:3-4). It is dangerous to have a potential enemy control portions of one’s military communications systems.
  8. Humans should eat what is good (cf. Isaiah 55:2). Joe Biden, like others before him, has made statements supporting the use of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) to be consumed as foods (Farm Bureau. Trump v Biden: Where do the candidates stand on GMOs and other key food issues? Genetic Literacy Project, November 17, 2020). Increased reliance on GMOs by the United States puts the nation at major risk for nearly complete crop failures. The Bible warns that famines (Matthew 24:7) and food shortages (Revelation 6:5-6) are coming and the Biden-Harris Administration may further help set the stage for this.
  9. The Biden-Harris Administration wants to increase Islamic immigration into the USA. The Bible prophesies “There shall be terror within” (Deuteronomy 32:25). The Bible also specifically warns of problems from Arabic peoples in the end times (Psalm 83:3-8). Some Syrians, including some already in the USA, may take terroristic actions as that too is consistent with biblical prophecy (cf. Isaiah 9:8-9, 11-12).
  10. By focusing too much on threats from China and almost always considering the Europeans as some type of allies, a Biden-Harris Administration is currently not expected to reverse the Asian ‘pivot’ strategy of the Obama-Biden Administration. Unless that changes, this pivot will help result in destruction of the USA.
  11. The incoming Biden-Harris Administration has made some statements suggesting they are not fully in agreement with the right of free speech. A “famine” of the word is prophesied (Amos 8:11) and it is possible that they could authorize steps that could lead to that.
  12. Kamala Harris is an admitted adulterer and Joe Biden has been accused of inappropriate behavior by enough women that suggests this charge is credible (as have some comments he has made about it). By encouraging and not discouraging aspects of biblical immorality, they are setting the U.S.A. up for punishment (Isaiah 30:12-13; Romans 1:18-32) that has and will include troubles, violence, weather problems, earthquakes, food shortages, and pestilences (Mark 13:7-8; Luke 21:10-11). The time will come when, these problems will further worsen.
  13. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris believe their policies will lead to more peace. We will one day hear proclamations of false peace and safety and Bible warns repeatedly end time destruction will follow those declarations (1 Thessalonians 5:3; Jeremiah 6:14-15).
  14. Jesus warned about a coming time of pestilences as part of the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:4-8).  Actions and/or inactions by Joe Biden and/or Kamala Harris will likely put the USA at increased risk of problems from pestilences.
  15. Joe Biden’s misstatements show that he is not always honest. This is not good (Proverbs 29:2; Psalm 15:1-4). Some statements by him and Kamala Harris are consistent with those warned about for the last days in 2 Timothy 3:1-6.
  16. Religious views by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris show that they are somewhat ‘ecumenical.’ An ecumenical power is warned about in the Bible and is expected to rise up in the end times (Zechariah 2:6-8; Revelation 17; 18). I expect them to make inter-faith/ecumenical supporting statements.
  17. Joe Biden has made statements suggesting a of loss of privacy and favoring unlimited government control. This type of thing will be exploited by 666 of Revelation 13:16-18.
  18. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris seem to be the type of people who would support the ‘peace deal’ of Daniel 9:27, which precedes the start of the Great Tribulation by a few years.
  19. Divisive statements from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are expected to result in division and protests. Jesus taught, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls” (Luke 11:17b).

Because the deal of Daniel 9:27 has not yet been made, let alone confirmed, the Great Tribulation, itself, cannot begin until at least 2025. It thus, however, may possibly begin in a year that Joe Biden or Kamala Harris could be president.

Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and all others, should open their Bibles and practice genuine Christianity, before they are subject to being misled by the modified, ecumenical religion that will come upon the whole world (cf. Revelation 13:3-4).

The Bible itself does NOT teach true Christian unity until after the return of Jesus Christ (Zechariah 2:10-12), but instead warns against the “Babylonian” movement that will precede it (Zechariah 2:6-9).

Of course, it is not only the United States that needs repentance as God “now commands all men everywhere to repent“ (Acts 17:30).

But a nation that has been blessed by God should lead the way (cf. Deuteronomy 4:5-6; Luke 12:48).

Do not expect Joe Biden to truly call for the type of repentance that the USA needs.

‘Rising Debt Triggers Growing Alarm, Especially for Poorer Nations’ COVID-19 blamed

Notice the following about debt:

Rising Debt Triggers Growing Alarm, Especially for Poorer Nations

January 5, 2021

How are countries going to cope with the sea of pandemic-related debt — will they drown in it?

Lockdowns and coronavirus restrictions have caused some government revenues to collapse at the same time public spending increases to try to save jobs and livelihoods. Poor and developing countries are the hardest hit, but even rich, powerful nations are straining to cope with the economic wreckage being wrought by a coronavirus that’s transforming the economic prospects of the world.

Last year, the governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, acknowledged publicly that the British government came close to insolvency because private investors did not want to buy its bonds, something almost unheard of for Britain. The bank was forced to step in to purchase $270 billion longer-term securities from the open market. In short, one arm of the British government borrowed to lend to another.

The pandemic’s financial cost is similar to that of a world war, say economists. The International Monetary Fund warned in a report in October, “In 2020, government deficits are set to surge by an average of 9 percent of GDP, and global public debt is projected to approach 100 percent of GDP, a record high.”

The overall global figure masks huge variations among countries.

The deficits of seven developed countries — Brazil, Britain, Canada, Italy, Spain, Japan and the United States — are surging and have risen by more than 10% of GDP. Japan’s gross public debt will shortly reach 266% — and America’s 131%, according to IMF projections.

These percentages would have been unimaginable in the not-too-distant past.

“The COVID pandemic will leave many scars on the world economy and our societies. One of the deepest will be a lasting legacy of rising global public and private debt,” according to Stéphane Monier, chief investment officer of Switzerland’s Lombard Odier Private Bank.

But in a note to the bank’s private clients last month, he said that while such debt accumulation is unsustainable in the long term, debt levels are unavoidable “as governments try to compensate firms and citizens for the challenges of the pandemic.” Monier added, “Thankfully, the debt is mostly currently affordable because of the exceptionally loose monetary policy and the associated rock-bottom interest rates.”

Looking at the debt, Monier said, as “a share of GDP,” exaggerates the increases, because economies’ revenues have fallen as the pandemic shut sectors. …

The debt distress of poorer nations is prompting attention and rising concern.

“Much of the conventional wisdom about how governments should manage the COVID-19 economic fallout is perfectly appropriate for advanced economies, but dangerous elsewhere,” according to Michael Spence, a Nobel laureate in economics, and Danny Leipziger, a professor at George Washington University’s School of Business.

“Even if developing and emerging economies could simply borrow and spend more to weather the storm, doing so could jeopardize their long-term economic prospects,” they wrote for Project Syndicate, which publishes commentary and analysis. Too much debt will drown the poorer countries, constraining their economic growth. https://www.voanews.com/economy-business/rising-debt-triggers-growing-alarm-especially-poorer-nations

Note that the only way this supposedly will work is if interest rates remain low.

Yet, by definition, anything that is “unsustainable” cannot continue.

Even if that will be the case for a time, hyperinflation is a major risk (see Birch: Why a Hyperinflation “Time Bomb” Could Explode in 2021).

Lockdowns and most other government imposed restrictions were not the biblically nor scientifically nor economically appropriate way to deal with the novel coronavirus.

But that is what most government leaders around the world embraced and implemented.

COVID is being blamed, but it was not COVID itself: it has been government policies blamed on COVID-19.

The damage government COVID policies have caused the economy has been tremendous. Millions lost their jobs. Many small businesses have closed. Landlords have been excessively squeezed. The airline, restaurant, hotel, and other travel related industries have been devastated. Even the oil and automotive industries have been hit hard. As have been the entertainment industries and many other segments of modern economies.

And, what is the governmental solution for the damage governmental policies have caused?

More debt.

Joe Biden has called for more ‘stimulus’ (debt) as well as possibly a national lockdown for the USA.

Most in the media and in government act like debt and lockdowns are good things.

However, the Bible clearly warns that an indebted people will be destroyed by people whose language that they do not understand, and that the destruction will be fairly total:

43 The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. 45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed…47 “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. 52 They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you (Deuteronomy 28:42-45,47-52).

7 The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7)

13 And the Lord said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, nor walked according to it, 14 but they have walked according to the dictates of their own hearts…16 I will scatter them also among the Gentiles, whom neither they nor their fathers have known. And I will send a sword after them until I have consumed them.” (Jeremiah 9:13,14a,16)

12 One-third of you shall die of the pestilence, and be consumed with famine in your midst; and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them. (Ezekiel 5:12)

Notice that getting in debt is considered to be a curse (see also the YouTube video The Debt Crisis Will Be Worse Than Most Imagine).

The debt situation of the USA, UK, and Canada are putting both at risk of being unable to recover should it be hit by weather problems, terrorist acts, war, riots, solar flares, severe earthquakes, civil unrest, devastation of their genetically-modified food supplies, food shortages, and/or various pestilences–an intensity of “sorrows” such as Jesus discussed in Matthew 24:4-8 leading up to the time of the Great Tribulation. Disasters such as pestilences, especially if there is an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (emp) attack or a severe solar flare storm, could be part of a so-called “perfect storm” of events that could set the USA, along with Canada, up for destruction.

The Bible also encourages being productive (cf. Exodus 20:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12), and lockdowns greatly reduce productivity for many.

The economic and debt situation is helping set the USA up for destruction.

Yet, although many do not want to believe, even that was expected:

6 “Don’t say such things,” the people respond. “Don’t prophesy like that. Such disasters will never come our way!” (Micah 2:6, New Living Translation)

16 … You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel, And do not spout against the house of Isaac.’ (Amos 7:16)

People will not want to hear! See also Preparing for the ‘Short Work’ and The Famine of the Word.

Yet, the hope that many people, companies, as well as state/provincial and local governments is to have their federal government further increase MORE of its debt and give them funds to pay off their debts and/or and keep them going.

While the USA and Canada still have more time, people would do well to pay attention to biblical prophecy on debt.

Notice a prophecy God inspired the prophet Habakkuk to write:

2 Then the Lord answered me and said:

“Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him,
And a taunting riddle against him, and say,
‘Woe to him who increases
What is not his — how long?
And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?
7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly?
Will they not awaken who oppress you?
And you will become their booty.
8 Because you have plundered many nations,
All the remnant of the people shall plunder you,
Because of men’s blood
And the violence of the land and the city,
And of all who dwell in it. (Habakkuk 2:6-8).

Notice that the Bible says that there will be a delay (it tarries)–but that disaster will happen and that foreign creditors will rise up. The above is a prophecy for the appointed time of the end–essentially the time of the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21). The USA has been accumulating pledges in the form of US Treasury bonds and notes, and is the most indebted nation of all time. Notice that the prophecy says it is so bad, that people should run who read it. That is, they should seriously consider what this means and take the appropriate steps. Yet, most ignore this prophecy.

Because US and British-descended leaders ignore, and even despise, instructions and warnings from the word of God, destruction will come to them. Notice something God inspired the prophet Isaiah to record:

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

“Because you despise this word,
And trust in oppression and perversity,
And rely on them,
13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you
Like a breach ready to fall,
A bulge in a high wall,
Whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.
14 And He shall break it like the breaking of the potter’s vessel,
Which is broken in pieces;
He shall not spare.
So there shall not be found among its fragments
A shard to take fire from the hearth,
Or to take water from the cistern.” (Isaiah 30:12-14)

Most of the leaders in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand despise the word of God, trust in perversion, and think nothing of oppressive debt levels.

Increasing debt will not end up well for the USA and its British-descended allies.

Nor is it good for the rest of the world.

Some believe that the lockdown and other COVID-blamed restrictions are setting the world up for something called “the Great Reset.”

Some think that will happen in 2021.

On other COVID matters, notice the following:

Beijing, China:

China on Monday vehemently refuted the US charge that the novel coronavirus was leaked from a bio lab in the country and asserted that the pandemic was likely to have been caused by separate outbreaks in multiple places in the world.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying’s remarks came amidst reports that a ten-member team of the World Health Organisation (WHO) scientists would visit China this month to probe the origin of the coronavirus, which emerged in Wuhan in December 2019. …

“There is a growing body of evidence that the (Wuhan) lab is likely the most credible source of the virus,” Mr Pottinger, a staunch critic of Beijing, allegedly made the claim in a recent virtual meeting with UK officials, according to a British media report.

His allegation is nothing new as US President Donald Trump, who termed COVID-19 as “China virus”, too had alleged last year that the institute may have been responsible and called for an inquiry. 01/04/21 https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/china-denies-us-allegation-that-coronavirus-originated-from-wuhan-lab-2347646

Early last year we put together a video: Biological Warfare and Prophecy.

It remains my view that experimentation with viruses was the most likely cause of COVID-19. Which after it was accidentally (in my view) released, I also believe, resulted in globalists jumping on as an excuse to test various totalitarian steps (and to help push out Donald Trump). In the future we will ultimately see even more devastating totalitarian changes (cf. Revelation 13).

Various reports have confirmed those views.

COVID 19 is NOT the End, but could it be TEOTWAWKI? The novel coronavirus called COVID-19 is wreaking havoc around the world. Many states of the USA as well as countries in Europe are on lockdown with shelter in place /shelter in residence requirements. In France, a form is required when you are not at your house. In Spain, drones are being used to warn people who are outside to got back to their homes–does that bring up feelings of ‘Big Brother’? Italy, France, and other areas are using police and/or military force to encourage people to stay inside. According to the Bible could this be the end? If not, what has to happen first? Is COVID-19 worse than we have been told or could this all be a ‘false flag’ event to encourage people to move towards a cashless society? If the thousands of deaths associated with COVID-19 are pushing parts of the world towards cashlessness, how much more likely will the ride of the fourth horseman and over a billion human deaths motivate people to move to making electronic payments that can be monitored? Catholic World Report on a Jewish temple in Jerusalem

Tuesday, January 5th, 2021

Area called the Temple Mount (Andrew Shiva)

COGwriter

Thomas J. Nash, a Roman Catholic apologist, wrote the following published by the Catholic World Report:

Divinely Planned Obsolescence

Why the Temple in Jerusalem will never be rebuilt and how the Sacrifice of the Mass is “the source and summit of evangelization”. …

Jesus said to his disciples: “Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. Watch therefore—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: ‘Watch’” (Mk. 13:33-37; Gospel, First Sunday of Advent, Year B).

The Church understands Jesus’ Second Coming will be precisely that: A Second and Final Coming in which Christ will definitively judge the living and the dead at the Last Judgment (CCC 1038-41). This doctrine is sometimes called “amillennialism,” which recognizes that the reign of Christ the King began with his earthly ministry, including the founding of his Catholic Church, and that Jesus continues his reign through his Church until he comes again at the climax of the world. The Church’s teaching stands in stark contrast to the popular, latter-day Protestant view of premillenialism, which holds that Jesus will return to earth and have a literal 1,000-year reign. Included in that proposed reign will be the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem, which was destroyed in A.D. 70, and the accompanying reinstitution therein of Old Covenant sacrifices. …

This premillennial perspective was prominently promoted in Hal Lindsey’s 1970 mega-bestseller The Late Great Planet Earth, as well in the Left Behind books and movies of more recent vintage.

But Lindsey and likeminded Christians, who continue to preach the rebuilding of the Temple, are, along with some well-meaning Jews, mistaken. The great and sad irony is that these Christians undermine the biblically based, New Covenant work of Jesus, who in his one Sacrifice of Calvary fulfilled and thus made obsolete the Old Covenant sacrifices (Heb. 8:6-7, 13), which had to be offered at the Temple in Jerusalem. …

The Letter to the Hebrews makes clear that Jesus definitively ended the need for the repetitive animal sacrifices of Temple worship, when he suffered and died once for all (Heb. 7:27). In doing so, he culminated his one Sacrifice of Calvary in everlasting glory in the heavenly sanctuary, not a mere earthly one, (Hebrews 8:1-3; 9:11-12, 23-24); and he makes that Sacrifice present on earth “as a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek,” (Heb. 5:6; see Heb. 5:5-10; 7:23-26;), i.e., under the appearances of bread and wine (see Gen. 14:18-20; Mt. 26:26-29). …

So to think that God would authorize the reinstitution of Temple sacrifices is to misunderstand his salvific work and also, unwittingly, blaspheme Jesus, who rendered void the need for such inferior sacrifices (Heb. 9:11-12, 23-28).

Been there, done that

Many Christians mistakenly believe that the biggest obstacle in rebuilding the Temple is the major international conflict that would result from having to destroy the Islamic Dome of the Rock. While some Jews and Muslim argue that the Dome of the Rock could be spared in rebuilding the sacrificial heart of the Temple, the whole argument is—charitably stated—moot. http://www.catholicworldreport.com/2017/12/03/divinely-planned-obsolescence/

The above is a mix of truth and error. Thomas Nash is correct that God does not need a Jewish Temple for the remission of sins (see also Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).

It is true that Hal Lindsey believes that a Jewish Temple must be rebuilt and that he is a premillenialist. Yet, it is not true that he, and others who believe that the Jews will rebuild the Temple, believe that God requires this for sins. They believe that Jesus paid the penalty for sins by His one sacrifice, hence they do not accept the Roman Catholic view that Jesus needs to be sacrificed daily via the Catholic Mass–which, by the way, was not the original liturgy of even that church (for details, see What was the Liturgy of the Early Church?).

As far as premillenism is concerned, that is NOT originally a Protestant teaching.

Martin Luther did not teach that nor do the Lutherans teach it.

The immediate followers of Martin Luther actually condemned the Anabaptists for not accepting infant baptism and for teaching the millennial reign of Christ as the Lutherans opposed that biblical teaching:

Article IX: Of Baptism… They condemn the Anabaptists, who reject the baptism of children…

Article XVII: Of Christ’s Return to Judgment. Also they teach that at the Consummation of the World Christ will appear for judgment and will raise up all the dead; He will give to the godly and elect eternal life and everlasting joys, but ungodly men and the devils He will condemn to be tormented without end. They condemn the Anabaptists, who think that there will be an end to the punishments of condemned men and devils. They condemn also others who are now spreading certain Jewish opinions, that before the resurrection of the dead the godly shall take possession of the kingdom of the world, the ungodly being everywhere suppressed. (The Confession of Faith: Which Was Submitted to His Imperial Majesty Charles V. At the Diet of Augsburg in the Year 1530. by Philip Melanchthon, 1497-1560. Translated by F. Bente and W. H. T. Dau. Published in: Triglot Concordia: The Symbolical Books of the Ev. Lutheran Church. St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1921, p. 95.)

There would have been no reason to condemn groups for specific teachings if those groups did not teach them. Hence, not just Catholic sources, but Protestant ones as well have condemned millenarianism.

Early Christians, including many considered to be saints by the Roman and Eastern Orthodox Catholics, did teach premillenarianism. For Thomas Nash to imply otherwise is a historic error.

Papias, who was a hearer of John and a friend of Polycarp (and is considered to be a saint by Roman Catholics), in the early second century taught about the millennial reign. Eusebius recorded that Papias (an early 2nd century leader) taught:

…there will be a period of a thousand years after the resurrection of the dead, and that the kingdom of Christ will be set up in material form on this very earth … (Eusebius. The History of the Church, Book III, Chapter XXIX, Verse 12, p. 69)

Here is another translation of the above:

… there will be a millennium after the resurrection from the dead, when the personal reign of Christ will be established on this earth (Fragments of Papias, VI. See also Eusebius, Church History, Book 3, XXXIX, 12).

Papias taught that it would be a time of great abundance:

In like manner, [He said] that a grain of wheat would produce ten thousand ears, and that every ear would have ten thousand grains, and every grain would yield ten pounds of clear, pure, fine flour; and that apples, and seeds, and grass would produce in similar proportions; and that all animals, feeding then only on the productions of the earth, would become peaceable and harmonious, and be in perfect subjection to man.” [Testimony is borne to these things in writing by Papias, an ancient man, who was a hearer of John and a friend of Polycarp, in the fourth of his books; for five books were composed by him…] (Fragments of Papias, IV).

Irenaeus, another heretical leader (but one Roman Catholics consider to be a saint), claimed to have met Polycarp of Smyrna. Here is some of what he wrote about this:

Thus, then, the six hundred years of Noah, in whose time the deluge occurred because of the apostasy, and the number of the cubits of the image for which these just men were sent into the fiery furnace, do indicate the number of the name of that man in whom is concentrated the whole apostasy of six thousand years, and unrighteousness, and wickedness, and false prophecy, and deception (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 29, Verse 2. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

Inasmuch, therefore, as the opinions of certain [orthodox persons] are derived from heretical discourses, they are both ignorant of God’s dispensations , and of the mystery of the resurrection of the just , and of the [ earthly ] kingdom which is the commencement of incorruption, by means of which kingdom those who shall be worthy are accustomed gradually to partake of the divine nature (capere Deum ); and it is necessary to tell them respecting those things, that it behoves the righteous first to receive the promise of the inheritance which God promised to the fathers, and to reign in it, when they rise again to behold God in this creation which is renovated , and that the judgment should take place afterwards (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 32, Verse 1. Translated by Alexander Roberts and William Rambaut. From Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts, James Donaldson, and A. Cleveland Coxe. (Buffalo, NY: Christian Literature Publishing Co., 1885.) Revised and edited for New Advent by Kevin Knight. <http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0103532.htm>.).

And again He says, “Whosoever shall have left lands, or houses, or parents, or brethren, or children because of Me, he shall receive in this world an hundred-fold, and in that to come he shall inherit eternal life.” For what are the hundred-fold [rewards] in this word, the entertainments given to the poor, and the suppers for which a return is made? These are [to take place] in the times of the kingdom, that is, upon the seventh day, which has been sanctified, in which God rested from all the works which He created, which is the true Sabbath of the righteous, which they shall not be engaged in any earthly occupation; but shall have a table at hand prepared for them by God, supplying them with all sorts of dishes (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 33, Verse 2. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

That the whole creation shall, according to God’s will, obtain a vast increase, that it may bring forth and sustain fruits such [as we have mentioned], Isaiah declares: “And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every prominent hill, water running everywhere in that day, when many shall perish, when walls shall fall. And the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, seven times that of the day, when He shall heal the anguish of His people, and do away with the pain of His stroke.” Now “the pain of the stroke” means that inflicted at the beginning upon disobedient man in Adam, that is, death; which [stroke] the Lord will heal when He raises us from the dead, and restores the inheritance of the fathers, as Isaiah again says: “And thou shall be confident in the LORD, and He will cause thee to pass over the whole earth, and feed thee with the inheritance of Jacob thy father.” This is what the Lord declared: “Happy are those servants whom the Lord when He cometh shall find watching. Verily I say unto you, that He shall gird Himself, and make them to sit down [to meat], and will come forth and serve them. And if He shall come in the evening watch, and find them so, blessed are they, because He shall make them sit down, and minister to them; or if this be in the second, or it be in the third, blessed are they.” Again John also says the very same in the Apocalypse: “Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.” Then, too, Isaiah has declared the time when these events shall occur; he says: “And I said, Lord, how long? Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses be without men, and the earth be left a desert. And after these things the LORD shall remove us men far away (longe nos faciet Deus homines), and those who shall remain shall multiply upon the earth.” Then Daniel also says this very thing: “And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of those under the heaven, is given to the saints of the Most High God, whose kingdom is everlasting, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.” And lest the promise named should be understood as referring to this time, it was declared to the prophet: “And come thou, and stand in thy lot at the consummation of the days.” Now, that the promises were not announced to the prophets and the fathers alone, but to the Churches united to these from the nations (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 34, Verses 2-3. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

If, however, any shall endeavour to allegorize [prophecies] of this kind, they shall not be found consistent with themselves in all points, and shall be confuted by the teaching of the very expressions [in question]. For example: When the cities of the Gentiles shall be desolate, so that they be not inhabited, and the houses so that there shall be no men in them and the land shall be left desolate. For, behold, says Isaiah, the day of the Lord comes past remedy, full of fury and wrath, to lay waste the city of the earth, and to root sinners out of it. And again he says, Let him be taken away, that he behold not the glory of God.And when these things are done, he says, God will remove men far away, and those that are left shall multiply in the earth. And they shall build houses, and shall inhabit them themselves: and plant vineyards, and eat of them themselves. For all these and other words were unquestionably spoken in reference to the resurrection of the just, which takes place after the coming of Antichrist, and the destruction of all nations under his rule; in [the times of] which [resurrection] the righteous shall reign in the earth, waxing stronger by the sight of the Lord: and through Him they shall become accustomed to partake in the glory of God the Father, and shall enjoy in the kingdom intercourse and communion with the holy angels, and union with spiritual beings; and [with respect to] those whom the Lord shall find in the flesh, awaiting Him from heaven, and who have suffered tribulation, as well as escaped the hands of the Wicked one (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 35, Verse 1. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

Thus Irenaeus clearly taught that after 6,000 years of human reign there was to be a physical kingdom of God on the earth and that resurrected saints would reign in that kingdom. He also objected to those that allegorize it away, which is officially what the Greco-Roman faiths teach.

Irenaeus also taught:

But when this Antichrist shall have devastated all things in this world, he will reign for three years and six months, and sit in the temple at Jerusalem; and then the Lord will come from heaven in the clouds, in the glory of the Father, sending this man and those who follow him into the lake of fire; but bringing in for the righteous the times of the kingdom, that is, the rest, the hallowed seventh day; and restoring to Abraham the promised inheritance, in which kingdom the Lord declared, that “many coming from the east and from the west should sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 30:4)

Here Irenaeus is teaching that the seventh one thousand years begins after the final Antichrist has reigned for 3 1/2 years.

Even though he held some odd ideas, even Justin Martyr had learned about the millennium:

But I and others, who are right-minded Christians on all points, are assured that there will be a resurrection of the dead, and a thousand years in Jerusalem, which will then be built, adorned, and enlarged, the prophets Ezekiel and Isaiah and others declare.

For Isaiah spake thus concerning this space of a thousand years: ‘For there shall be the new heaven and the new earth, and the former shall not be remembered, or come into their heart; but they shall find joy and gladness in it, which things I create’…For as Adam was told that in the day he ate of the tree he would die, we know that he did not complete a thousand years. We have perceived, moreover, that the expression, ‘The day of the Lord is as a thousand years,’ is connected with this subject. And further, there was a certain man with us, whose name was John, one of the apostles of Christ, who prophesied, by a revelation that was made to him, that those who believed in our Christ would dwell a thousand years in Jerusalem; and that thereafter the general, and, in short, the eternal resurrection and judgment of all men would likewise take place (Dialogue. Chapters 80-81).

Thus, Justin is condemning any who do not believe in a literal thousand year reign as not “right-minded Christians” or non-believers. The second century leaders who professed Christ, including some heretical ones, clearly believed in the teaching that Christ would return and reign for a thousand years on the earth.

The Church of God leader (who is considered to be a saint by the Roman and Eastern Orthodox Catholics), Melito of Sardis taught the millennium (Danielou, Cardinal Jean-Guenole-Marie. The Theology of Jewish Christianity. Translated by John A. Baker. The Westminister Press, 1964). Here is more information about Melito’s views:

A few years after Saint Justin’s death, and in the surrounding areas of Ephesus, Melito of Sardis, a well-known bishop and his followers defended millennialism. He undoubtedly borrowed some of his theories from his compatriot, Papias and relied on the Apocalypse. (Gry L. Le millenarisme dans ses origines et son developpement. Alphonse Picard, Paris, 1904, p. 81. Translated into English by Gisele Gaudet, March 2015.)

More could be listed (to see more, check out the article Did The Early Church Teach Millenarianism?).

Now consider that as late as 1966, a Roman Pontiff blessed a book that endorsed a version of millenarianism.:

The saints are then to reign with Christ a thousand years…Many early Christians took this as a literal description…Millenarians, i.e., believers in the reign of a thousand years. This belief was common in the early Church…It appeared from time to time in the Middle Ages, and is still advocated by some of the more obscure sects…

…the time of the First Resurrection will end…It is the time when the Seventh Millennium will set in, and will be the day of Sabbath in the plan of creation…It has been the common opinion among Jews, Gentiles, and Latin and Greek Christians, that the present evil world will last no more than 6,000 years…Christians and Jews, from the beginning of Christianity, and before, have taught that 6,000 years after the creation of Adam and Eve, the consummation will occur. The period after the consummation is to be the seventh day of creation–the Sabbath…St. Jerome said, “It is a common belief that the world will last 6,000 years.”

…I believe that as the last days come to an end so will the sixth day of creation (Culligan E. The Last World War and the End of Time. The book was blessed by Pope Paul VI, 1966. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), pp. 67, 113-115).

So, no longer teaching the millennium, nor the 6000 year plan (for more details see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?) are changes in Roman Catholic understanding. Because of this many Catholics will not know when the end will come (see also When Can the Great Tribulation Begin?).

Premillenarianism is not an invention of Protestants.

Early Christians and other professors of Christ held to it.

And we in the Continuing Church of God (and we ARE NOT Protestant) still do.

That being said, it is true that the Jews do NOT need to build a Temple before Jesus will return to establish the millennial Kingdom of God.

As far as the Temple in Jerusalem currently being obsolete, that is correct.

While the Bible does tell of animal sacrifices being stopped prior to the time that Jesus will return to establish the millennial Kingdom of God, neither the Bible nor the Jews teach that a Jewish Temple must be built on the area claimed to be the Temple Mount in order to perform animal sacrifices (the actual location of the original temple is a matter of dispute).

Not only have representatives of the Sanhedrin and Temple Institute directly told me this, consider that after the first Jerusalem temple was built and left in ruins, the Bible itself specifically shows that sacrifices were made in the time of Ezra BEFORE the second temple was ready:

6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. (Ezra 3:6)

Thus, Jews know that they can perform animal sacrifices without a rebuilt Temple.

So while theologically and historically, Thomas Nash made many errors, his view that the Jews do not need a temple to be rebuilt before Jesus returns is correct. He is also correct that certain ideas associated with Jerusalem are obsolete (see, for example, Does the Church of God need to be headquartered in Jerusalem?).

PCG: Barack Obama in Bible Prophecy; COGwriter: Barack Obama’s Administration confirmed at least 12 COGwriter predictions

PCG’s Trumpet magazine cover for February 2021

COGwriter

PCG’s Gerald Flurry has the following in the February 2021 edition of his Trumpet magazine:

Barack Obama in Bible Prophecy

Barack Obama was at the epicenter of the election crisis and the radical left’s effort to prevent Donald Trump from being reelected!

The United States entered its greatest political crisis ever on Nov. 3, 2020, Election Day. To make Joe Biden president, the radical left flagrantly manipulated the nation’s voting system. Then for weeks, the mainstream media, at least half the public, most of the nation’s politicians (Democrats and Republicans), and much of the rest of the world believed Mr. Biden had been legitimately elected president.

But it was a giant lie. …

But behind this vast network of lies, corruption and lawlessness, there stood one man: Barack Obama.

There is compelling evidence that Mr. Obama was not only aware of the plot to pervert this election, but was intimately connected with those pulling the strings. …

The last part of Daniel 8:17 reads, “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end” (Revised Standard Version). In verse 26, God told Daniel to seal up the vision, “for it relates to the far future” (Moffatt). Many of the events described in this chapter were fulfilled in type in the centuries after Daniel recorded them in 550 b.c. However, even those events point to this prophecy’s primary fulfillment in the end time, just before Christ returns.

Beginning in verse 9 is a prophecy of a “little horn” that arose from one of the four divisions of the Grecian Empire. Virtually all commentaries agree this refers to Antiochus Epiphanes, a dictator who obtained rule in Palestine in 176 b.c. through deceit and flattery. What they overlook, though, is that this also has an end-time fulfillment.

When we set this prophecy alongside others, as well as actual end-time events, it is clear there are actually three end-time types of Antiochus. First, there is the spiritual Antiochus, the man who led God’s Church astray. Second, there is an Antiochus in physical Israel. Third, an Antiochus also leads the prophesied final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire, which God uses to punish Israel.

Barack Obama is the end-time type of Antiochus who seeks to destroy physical Israel! …

this Antiochus never left the political scene, and he never stopped trying to undermine America!

The details of this prophecy have very personal, emotional meaning to me—because we dealt personally with the Antiochus in the Church of God. Satan used that man to destroy the Church! Daniel 8:11 says this man “magnified himself even to [against] the prince of the host [Jesus Christ], and by him the daily sacrifice [the work of God] was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.” The devil used this Antiochus-like man inside the Church of God to destroy God’s work.

Verse 12 further describes this man’s character: “And an host [a demon army] was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered.” Antiochus cast truth to the ground. He was a lawless man! …

In the Epoch Times, Lee Smith wrote, “Obama wants it understood that Biden is an avatar for a third Obama term. Now he can complete the work of ‘fundamentally transforming America,’ as he put it days before the 2008 election” (Nov. 17, 2020). …

By mid-December, what amounted to a third Obama administration had been created and was ready to move back into the White House!

The most remarkable part was, most of America had no problem with this! Antiochus was ready to take back control, and America didn’t care!

If this plan had not been interrupted, I believe Barack Obama would have ended up back in the White House—at the very least as the grand puppet-master directing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. …

I have explained the prophecies in Amos 7 and 2 Kings 14, both of which reveal that God is not going to allow Mr. Obama and the radical left to blot out the name of Israel. These prophecies are dual …

And remember that the book of Kings is one of the former prophets, which contains prophecy mainly for the latter days—our time today.

But notice verse 27: “And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.” The name of Israel is about to be blotted out. God Himself intervenes and saves Israel temporarily. How? By the hand of an end-time Jeroboam!

Today, Donald Trump plays the role of an end-time Jeroboam. …

In Amos 7:8, God reveals why He saves America through Jeroboam. He says, “… I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.” A plumbline is usually used in measuring a building or construction. But God uses it differently here: This is about measuring the destruction that is to come upon the nations of Israel. This destruction is not random; God is measuring it carefully and precisely. And it will bring about the most wonderful results imaginable.

When God saves America from Barack Obama and the radical left, He is giving the nation one final opportunity to repent of sin and turn to Him! https://www.thetrumpet.com/23335-barack-obama-in-bible-prophecy

While the coming European King of the North Beast is like Antiochus, no Barack Obama is NOT Antiochus nor is Donald Trump Jeroboam (even if he somehow does retain the presidency).

Here is something that the old Radio Church of God published related to Antiochus:

Notice why: what happened to the daily sacrifice in the days of Antiochus Epiphanes (168-165 B.C.) was ONLY A TYPE of what is yet to occur! The wicked deeds of Antiochus Epiphanes are recorded in Daniel 11:31. He polluted the ancient sanctuary. He took away the daily sacrifice … Daniel 8 shows that the little horn, which takes away the daily sacrifice and casts down the sanctuary, ARISES IN THE LATTER DAYS. It is to arise at the time of the end. The little horn is the LAST KING of one of the four divisions of Alexander’s Empire. He is, in fact, the last king who rules over the “Kingdom of the North” — one of the four divisions of Alexander’s Empire. The King of the North, described in Daniel 11, was originally Syria — NORTH of Palestine. BUT SYRIA WAS SWALLOWED UP BY ROME. The Roman system of government became the “Kingdom of the North.” It has existed to our time in Europe. This amazing history is described in Daniel 11:36-41. In Daniel 11 the last King of the North is pictured as occupying “the glorious land” Palestine (verse 41). This is the same region that the little horn” of Daniel 8. (Hoeh H. Daniel’s “2300 Days” Prophecy Revealed at Last! Goofd News, June 1960)

Barack Obama DID NOT take away daily sacrifices and is simply NOT following in the footsteps of Antiochus Epiphanes. Barack Obama, while in a sense perhaps has been the King of the West, he most certainly has not been the King of the North.

Regarding Amos 7, notice something that Gerald Flurry wrote that was published in the April 2017 edition of his Philadelphia Trumpet article related to Amos 7:17 and the end (with bolding added):

Amos 7:7-17 show that our time is very limited. What is going to happen in the next four years or perhaps even less?

This is one of the strongest, most urgent warnings in the Bible!

“Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit” (verse 14). … Verse 14 talks about people who are going to “fall, and never rise up again.” This is talking about 50 percent of God’s own Laodicean or lukewarm church who will lose their eternal lives! What a tragedy—the greatest tragedy in this end time! …

God is about to send nuclear fire! (see also verses 4, 7, 10, 12, 14; 2:2, 5).

No, 50% of Laodiceans are not to lose their eternal lives by April of 2021, which would be four years after Gerald Flurry’s article was officially published (it actually was published a month or so earlier). Gerald Flurry is wrong about that. And while the USA may well experience a nuclear fire, it will not happen before 2025. Gerald Flurry is NOT God’s prophet.

Regarding Donald Trump, PCG’s Gerald Flurry wrote the following in November:

Donald Trump Is Going to Win This Election

November 9. 2020

This past Friday night, Joe Biden held a big parade and made a victory speech. Saturday, the American news media decided to declare him the winner of the election and the president-elect of the United States.

It does appear strongly that this man will be America’s next president. But I absolutely do not believe that at all. Regardless of how things look right now, I am confident that Donald Trump will remain president. …

Unfulfilled Prophecies

The Trumpet has been explaining biblical prophecies that apply to Donald Trump and to America—specific end-time prophecies that must be and will be fulfilled.

We have shown how President Trump is here to stop the destructive spirit that is working to destroy America. …

But looking at this modern-day Jeroboam, you have to say God gave Israel a “savior”—at least to the extent that He wouldn’t let these enemies bring down the nation. He has been blocking this movement to “blot out the name of Israel [which includes America] from under heaven.”

And is his job finished? No, it isn’t. So I don’t believe at all that he is going to disappear from the scene!

The Trumpet has also pointed to a prophecy in Amos 7 that tells us a lot about this end-time Jeroboam. None of that prophecy has yet been fulfilled—but we can be sure that it will be, and President Trump must be in power for this to take place. God is going to fulfill every prophecy of His Bible! …

Donald Trump certainly has his problems, and God sees those—but He chose him as a savior—temporarily—for this nation! https://www.thetrumpet.com/23137-donald-trump-is-going-to-win-this-election

While God will fulfill every prophecy of His Bible, Gerald Flurry has a history of misunderstanding and misinterpreting biblical prophecies. This does not mean is it not possible for Donald Trump to remain in office, but not because of Gerald Flurry’s view of Amos 7.

Gerald Flurry’s view of Barack Obama prophecies are from his own imagination.

On the other hand, since writing my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect back in 2009, many world events have been reported that align themselves with dozens of biblically-connected predictions the book contained. At least a dozen were fulfilled directly or indirectly related to actions of Barack Obama or at least his Administration. Twelve are listed in this post. Note that I have tried to only use news confirmations that occurred while Barack Obama held office in this post, and there are newer reports that confirm much of them as well:

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that the U.S. dollar would ultimately be worthless with another currency (with European involvement and/or control) taking its place in the world.

The Wall Street Journal reported that on September 7, 2009 a committee of the United Nations advised dropping the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency (Goldstein S. U.N. Panel Calls For Dollar Reserve Role To Be Eliminated.  Wall Street Journal Online, September 8, 2009).  While there had been scattered discussions of this before, this was the first time such an important multi-national panel specifically called for the elimination of the role of the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

“Gulf Arabs are planning—along with China, Russia, Japan and France—to end dollar dealings for oil, moving instead to a basket of currencies including the Japanese yen and Chinese yuan, the euro, gold and a new, unified currency… The current deadline for the currency transition is 2018” (Fisk R.  The demise of the dollar. The Independent, 6 October 2009; see also (Evans-Pritchard A. Gulf petro-powers to launch currency in latest threat to dollar hegemony.  Telegraph, December 16, 2009).

In October 2010, Simon Derrick at Bank of New York Mellon claimed, “The euro is the only real alternative to the dollar as a reserve currency” (Graham P, Oliver C. Currency race that everyone is trying to lose.  Financial Times, October 12, 2010).   In November 2010, Russia and China announced that they were dropping the use of the US dollar for bilateral trade (Qiang S and Xiaokun L.  China, Russia quit dollar.  China News, November 24, 2010).

Forbes reported that “central banks around the world” are “dumping the greenback” as “The US dollar’s role as the world’s reserve currency has been called into question” (Central Banks Dump Treasuries As Dollar’s Reserve Currency Status Fades. Forbes, March 16, 2011).  In May 2011, “Chuck Butler, president of EverBank World Markets and a 35-year currency analyst” stated:  “The U.S. dollar will lose its reserve currency status sometime between 2014 and 2020. There will be no trumpet; it will just happen” (Clark J.  If the Dollar Goes, What Happens to Your Portfolio?  Casey Research, June 21, 2011).  US policies seem to be leading to the end of the dollar (Powell SS. How US debt risks dollar doomsday.  New York Post, April 30, 2012).

Events are lining up for the U.S. dollar to be dropped as the world’s reserve currency.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that U.S. President Obama would encourage the rise of a European power to the ultimate peril of the U.S.A.

In October 2009, it was reported that Czech President Vaclav Klaus was the lone EU leader still opposed to the Lisbon Treaty (Waterfield B. Czech President Vaclav Klaus ‘to continue’ lone resistance to Lisbon Treaty.  Telegraph, October 15, 2009).  The Obama administration worked to get the Lisbon Treaty approved as President Obama “wants a strong and united Europe” (Source: Baldwin T, Reid T., Coates S. Obama Administration worried about Cameron effect in Europe.  The Times, October 21, 2009).  On October 23, 2009, US Vice President Joseph Biden visited the Czech Republic and gave it security reassurances (U.S. foreign policy aware of threats – Havel after meeting Biden.  CTK, October 23, 2009).  This could have possibly had some limited influence on some of the Czech leadership, as the Lisbon Treaty was signed two weeks after that visit.  On November 3, 2009, Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that USA President Barack Obama publicly expressed his support for the Czech President’s signing of the Lisbon Treaty and for now having a ‘strengthened’ EU (Obama welcomes ‘strengthened’ EU. AFP, November 3, 2009).

The New York Times reported that on May 10, 2010, President Obama called German Chancellor Merkel and told her that Europe needed an overwhelming financial rescue for the sake of its unity, and she heeded that suggestion. (Erlanger S, Benhold K, Sanger D. Debt Aid Package for Europe Took Nudge From Washington. New York Times, May 10, 2010).

In December 2010, it was announced USA made “an extra commitment of money” to support the EU and it was also reported that the “United States, has committed 250 billion Euros to the EFSF” (European Financial Stability Facility) to support the euro and economic structure of the European Union (US Ready to Back Bigger EU Stability Fund: Official.  Reuters, December 1, 2010).  In 2012, US Defense Secretary Panetta made public calls for the Europeans to increase their military strength and spending (Carmichael L. Europe Needs To Invest In Defense, Too: U.S..  Defense News, February 4, 2012).  This is very dangerous.

The Obama Administration clearly has been supporting the rise of the European power.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that the Obama Administration would continue to greatly increase the debt of the USA.

On February 12, 2010, President Obama signed a bill raising the USA debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion (Obama signs law lifting debt ceiling. AFP, February 12, 2010).

The total government debt went up $9 trillion under the Obama Administration.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that, “Because of domestic economic concerns and international pressures, Barack Obama is shifting priorities away from defense spending…This will help lead to the destruction of the United States, when the Europeans are ready and the U.S.A. is not.”

On April 8, 2010, President Obama signed a nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia which will reduce the total nuclear weapons of the USA by about a third (Loven J. Obama In Prague: Russia Nuclear Arms Deal Signed With Medvedev. The Huffington Post, April 8, 2010).  The treaty was partially based on apparently flawed and overly optimistic assessment of the USA’s missile intercept abilities (Broad W, Sanger D. Review Cites Flaws in U.S. Antimissile Program.  New York Time, May 17, 2010).

Interestingly, the U.S.A.’s major military partner, the United Kingdom, has also seriously cut its defense spending (LaFranci H. Big British defense cuts weaken Pentagon’s top military partner. Christian Science Monitor, October 20, 2010).

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff declared that certain “automatic” defense cuts would “break” the U.S. military, while the Defense Secretary stated they would be “catastrophic” (Munoz C.  Chairman of Joint Chiefs Says Doomsday Cut Would ‘Break’ Military.  AOL News, September 23, 2011). Barack Obama has proposed cutting the U.S. nuclear arsenal to none (Obama for ‘world without nuclear weapons’.  Al Jazeera, March 26, 2012); the closer to zero it is, the less the U.S.A. is ahead of all nations on earth, other than Russia.

Having less military power means that other powers (like Europe) gain strength relative to the U.S.A.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that there would likely be gaps in the U.S. G.P.S. system and this may require the U.S. military to rely on the upcoming European Galileo system (essentially an upgraded and European developed version of G.P.S) to meet that gap.

The U.S. Air Force itself disputed the idea of gaps in military satellite communications (Air Force Official Disputes GAO Report on Projected GPS Failure.  Satellite Today, May 26, 2009), when that portion of the book was written.

But, on November 10, 2009, Aviation Week reported that the leader of U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Gen. Kevin Chilton, “says so few satellites are in queue now for launch for critical missions–such as weather observation satcom or ballistic missile warning–that there is a risk of service gaps that could impede the military’s ability to do its job” (Butler A.  U.S. Satellite Coverage Gaps Loom.  Aviation Week,  November 10, 2009).

Furthermore, because of concerns about China, Reuters reported on February 4, 2010, “The U.S. Defense Department is linking its Global Positioning System with Europe’s Galileo, another space-based global navigation satellite system. GPS will feature a new military signal called M-code to boost anti-jamming, facilitate secure access and increase the local signal strength.” (Wolf J. US, wary of China, mulls satellite substitutes.  Reuters, February 4, 2010).  This linking will essentially guarantee that the U.S.A. will have a portion of their military response ability controlled by the Europeans.

Galileo initially had critics as there were “early objections from the Americans who thought a rival system to GPS might be used to attack its armed forces” (Amos J. EU awards Galileo satellite-navigation contracts.  BBC, Jan 7, 2010). But this warning has been discounted to the peril of the United States.

The “brain” of the Galileo satellite system was shipped to Rome on April 26, 2010 (First EU Navigation SatellitePayload Shipped.  Red Orbit, 26 April 2010).

The Wall Street Journal reported on June 28, 2010 that the Obama Administration hopes to persuade the American people that having to rely on Europe’s Galileo “to augment” for part of our GPS needs is in the interest of global cooperation (Pasztor A.  New Space Calls for Global Cooperation. Wall Street Journal, June 28, 2010).  This became official on July 30, 2010 (U.S. and the EU to collaborate on usage of Global Navigation Satellite Systems.  BNO News, July 31, 2010).

The USA has even agreed to let Germany in on a new secret spy satellite program (US and Germany in joint spy satellite project: cable. AFP – Jan 3, 2011).  Galileo satellites are expected to be launched in 2011 (European Space Agency predicts European space revolution.  Defence Web, January 18, 2011).

It is expected that Galileo will be fully operational in the decade of the 2020s (Milner G. Behind the Master Controls of GPS. Science Friday, May 6, 2016).

The problems with GPS combined with Galileo, revealing spy satellite technology, and the fact that the first non-American, French General Stéphane Abrial became the “Commander of the Allied Command Transformation” of NATO in Europe in September, 2009 (French General Takes Over Key NATO Command In U.S.  RTT News, September 10, 2009) means Europeans will have much more control over the military of the USA than most have imagined.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that there may be sorrows and “squatter rebellions” in the USA by the end 2012.

The “Occupy Wall Street” movement, which began in 2011 partially fulfilled some of that (Lavin T. Can Occupy Wall Street Replace the Labor Movement?  Bloomberg, May 1, 2012). This type of action was predicted to start during the Obama Administration. Much worse civil unrest is coming.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned (through quoting Habakkuk 2:7) that foreign creditors “will rise up suddenly” against the USA—and the beginning signs of this have appeared during the Obama Administration.

On November 8, 2010 German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble publicly warned, “The United States lived on borrowed money for too long” (Interview With German Finance Minister Schäuble: ‘The US Has Lived on Borrowed Money for Too Long’.  Spiegel, November 8, 2010).  Der Spiegel reported, “Americans have lived beyond their means for decades…Everything was paid for with borrowed money” (A Superpower in Decline: Is the American Dream Over? Der Spiegel, November 1, 2010).

On November 9, 2010, a major Chinese rating service dropped the credit rating of the bonds of the U.S. Treasury (Fellman J, Xie Y.  China’s Dagong Cuts U.S. Credit Rating to A+ on Fed’s Quantitative Easing Bloomberg, November 9, 2010).

At some point, foreign holders will refuse to accept greater amounts of U.S. debt or the dollar as reserve currency,” Mr. Hummel said in a note to investors (Cui C.  World Is Bitten by the Gold Bug.  Wall Street Journal, April 21, 2011).  Asian nations are holding meetings to try to figure out what to do with their dollar reserves (Adam S. Asia Seeks to Diversify Record Reserves as U.S. Dollar Declines.  Bloomberg, May 2, 2011).

A June 22, 2011 report issued by the US Congressional Budget Office warned of a possible “sudden fiscal crisis” with foreigners reacting to US debt practices (Taylor A.  CBO: Debt Crisis Looms Absent Major Policy Changes. Associated Press, June 24, 2011). On August 5, 2011, Standard & Poors downgraded the credit worthiness of the US government (Arnall D.  S&P Drops US Credit Rating to AA+.  ABC, August 5, 2011).

And while foreign creditors have not fulfilled the entire prediction in Habakkuk 2 yet, they have taken steps that indicate that they will fulfill it, and this will not be good for the United States.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that Barack Obama will cause people to err and not discourage, but instead encourage, biblical sin. He and his Administration have done so.

On February 18, 2011, the Obama Administration issued a ruling that pharmacists must supply abortive medication even if they have religious or other objections to doing so (Rovner J. New Contraception Rules Spark ‘Conscience Clause’ Debate. NPR, February 18, 2011).

Also, in 2011, Barack Obama publicly turned against the Defense of Marriage Act (Richey W. Obama, in stand for gay rights, calls for repeal of DOMA.  Christian Science Monitor, July 19, 2011).  Furthermore, at the United Nations he publicly advocated policies against biblical morality (Munro N.  Obama delivers campaign stump speech at the UN. Daily Caller, September 21, 2011).

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warns that Barack Obama will help enable the rise of a multi-national leader of an Islamic confederation, like an Imam, that the Bible refers to as the King of the South.

Many believed that how Barack Obama handled the matter in Egypt would lead to some religious leaders arising in the Middle East/North Africa (Region incredulous at speed with which U.S. betrayed Mubarak.  World Tribune, February 2, 2011; Worth RF.  Unrest Encircles Saudis, Stoking Sense of Unease.  New York Times, February 19, 2011)—and it has.

The Obama Administration’s involvement in Libya also changed matters there (Taylor A. Obama Orders Air Strike On Qhadafi’s Forces.  U.S. Election News, March 20, 2011). As Hillary Clinton was considered the architect of the foreign policy of the Obama Administration, she had involvement in this and other matters–and would be expected to again if she becomes U.S.A. president.

The goal of many Muslims is for a multi-national Muslim empire called a caliphate like the Islamic confederation that (based upon biblical prophecies) 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect predicted. And Barack Obama and his Administration have provided support for this.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warns that China may end up with at least part of Australia.

On November 10, 2011, the author of 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect posted that the decision by Australia to accept US Marines in northern Australia as proposed by the Obama Administration may be used as part of justification for China to eventually attack the land of Australia and perhaps end up with it (Thiel B.  Obama Putting ‘Permanent’ Troops in Australia Because of China, But…Church of God News, November 10, 2011).  On November 18, 2011, it was reported that a Chinese-state newspaper claimed that Australia was risking putting itself in the “cross-fire” and hinted that China might now feel compelled to attack Australia (Calmes J. Obama Addresses Troops at Final Stop in Australia.  New York Times, November 17, 2011).

In  2012, China provided more information suggesting that it might take action against Australia because of US troops there (Kwong R.  China Doesn’t Think The US Is That Awesome.  Forbes, April 4, 2102).

So, while the actual taking over of Australian lands by China has not yet happened, events aligning with that possibility that the Obama Administration has been involved with, are happening.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warns about the U.S.A. losing out technologically, because of spending cuts and focus to Europe’s Large Hadron Collider.

The U.S. Tevatron collider is now in moth balls.  The U.S.A. is down to only one particle collider. The funding for the remaining one (Brookhaven) has sometimes been cut, and it may actually have to shut down (Matson J. Nuclear Decelerator: Last U.S. Particle Collider is on Chopping Block.  Scientific American, August 24, 2012).

This technological prowess is being lost by the U.S.A.

  1. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned that during 2012 some would likely declare that a new age of peace is dawning. On May 23, 2012, US President Obama essentially declared that since certain wars were about over, a new age of peace was dawning on the horizon (Nakamura D. Obama touts American exceptionalism, end of wars in Air Force graduation speech. Washington Post, May 23, 2012).

Recognized news sources have reported (though have often not emphasized) these significant events.  Most of the public has NOT learned how these events align with end time prophecies and predictions. But none of these events should have been a surprise for those who have read and understood Dr. Thiel’s biblically-based warnings back in 2009.

Let me also add that 20 or so predictions in my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse have also been in the process of being fulfilled.

Prophecies are coming to pass and the groundwork is being shown in significant world events.

“Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35). The biblical prophecies outlined in COGwriter books and posts are coming to pass.

Do not be dissuaded by people who oppose prophecies or those who misunderstand them (like PCG’s Gerald Flurry).

While national repentance for the U.S.A. seems unlikely, personal repentance is possible (1 Timothy 2:4; Acts 2:38).

Even physical protection is available for the true Philadelphian Christians (cf. Revelation 3:7-10; Revelation 12:14-16). And they are not represented by PCG (though it still could have a few Philadelphians within it).

Those who consider themselves Christians should heed Jesus’ and the Apostle Paul’s admonitions to watch world events (Mark 13:33-36; 1 Thessalonians 5:3-6) and pray to be accounted worthy to escape various events that are certain to come to pass (Luke 21:36).

I365: US Congress opens with ‘Blasphemous’ Prayer to Hindu Idol Brahma

Monday, January 4th, 2021

Hindu deity of creation Brahma (Wikipedia)

COGwriter

The US Congress opened with a blasphemous prayer:

US Congress opens with ‘Blasphemous’ Prayer to Hindu Idol Brahma

January 4, 2021

Democratic Missouri representative Emanuel Cleaver, a ‘pastor’, recited the opening prayer on the first day of the 117th Congress on Sunday. The ‘prayer’ began with a hint of hope for decreased political division.

But towards the end of the ‘prayer’ Cleaver asked the Hindu deity Brahma for “peace across the land” and inside Congress as well.

Brahma is the ‘creator god’ in Hinduism. According to legend, Brahma was self-born inside of a golden egg. Although he is considered to be the God of Creation, Brahma is also considered to be a mortal.

But just in case worshipping a Hindu idol wasn’t controversial enough, Cleaver then concluded the ‘prayer’ with a politically correct play on the word ‘Amen.’

“Amen, and a-woman,” he said.

The word ‘Amen’ is a Hebrew word which represents loyalty to the God of Israel. It first appears in the Book of Numbers:

may this water that induces the spell enter your body, causing the belly to distend and the thigh to sag.” And the woman shall say, “Amen, amen!” (Numbers 5:22)

It also appears in the Book of Isaiah:

For whoever blesses himself in the land Shall bless himself by the God of Amen; And whoever swears in the land Shall swear by the God of Amen. The former troubles shall be forgotten, Shall be hidden from My eyes. (Isaiah 65:16)

And later in Jeremiah:

The NaviYirmiyahu said: “Amen! May Hashem do so! (Jeremiah 28:6)

In Hebrew, the word Amen (spelled: אָמֵן) is an acronym for ‘To God we are loyal’ (אל מלך נאמן). …

Popular Israeli rabbi Chaim Navon called the prayer “blasphemous.”

The inclusion the word “a-woman” comes on the heels of a Democratic initiative proposing a rule change that replaces the words like father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, and more with gender-neutral words. https://www.israel365news.com/163567/us-congress-opens-with-blasphemous-prayer-to-hindu-idol-brahma-watch/

January 4, 2021

Democrat Rep. Emanuel Cleaver opened the 117th Congress in a prayer — of sorts — to “the monotheistic god, Brahma, and god known by many names by many different faiths.” And then he wrapped with “amen and a-woman.”

It doesn’t get any clearer than that. With this prayer, Dems are essentially giving the boot to God from government. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/jan/4/democrats-set-117th-congress-stage-godlessness/

Those who think that the USA is a Christian nation need to accept the reality that nearly all in the USA are opposed to the teachings of the God of the Bible. (Regarding the ‘gender-neutral words’ plan, check out the post US House wants ‘gender neutral’ and UK judges rule in favor of true speech).

Let me add that by saying “a-woman” at the end, this is making a mockery of prayer. The term amen has NOTHING to do with gender.

PRAYER Book Cover - Front Final

While some have questioned the use of amen, here is some information about it in our free online booklet Prayer: What Does the Bible Teach?:

Close with Amen

Jesus ended the prayer He gave in Matthew 6 with the term “Amen.” In the “Received text,” the Greek word is άμην, transliterated as into Latin characters as “amen” (anciently pronounced ah-min or ah-men). Nearly all the books of the New Testament end with the word “Amen.”

Some do not like the word “Amen.” Some claim it is pagan and that using it is calling out to, or praying to, an Egyptian sun-god.

However, “amen” stems from the Hebrew verb aman (anciently pronounced ah-main) meaning “to support, confirm, or rear up” (Harkavy, Students’ Hebrew and Chaldee Dictionary). The Hebrew word aman (אמן) differs from the word for the Egyptian god Amon/Amun used in the Bible (ן‎ואָמ‎). Yet, some falsely claim that saying “Amen” is actually a prayer to that pagan deity.

Amen itself means “truly” (Harkavy). Christians can say truly or verily if they wish (cf. Romans 14:23c), but most use the term “Amen.” Basically, the word אמן/άμην signifies that you believe and agree with what was stated before.

Christ often used this word in the New Testament. In the King James Version, άμην is often translated as “verily.”

Believe what you pray. Have the right attitude. Amen.

The Bible (NKJV) uses the term amen 77 times.

It is a blasphemous mockery to end a prayer with a-woman, as if that is the equivalent to amen.

COGwriter Peering into Ancient Thyatira (2008)

COGwriter

Have you heard about the Church of God in Thyatira?

In Revelation 2, Jesus said:

18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,

‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

24 “Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. 25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations —

27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’ —

as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.

29 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”‘ (Revelation 2:18-29).

This era of the Church of God was predominant circa 1050 A.D. to circa 1600 A.D. Some of the Catholic Inquisitors reported about some of their doctrines.

Because of the portion bolded above, some, including the late evangelist John Ogwyn who discussed this with me, have felt that some of the Thyatira remnant would be around until Jesus Christ returns. And I share that view and he encouraged me years ago to search for that remnant. Also, my wife and I later actually visited ancient Thyatira (which is located in the nation of Turkey).

It is of note that it was only to Thyatira (Revelation 2:25) and to Philadelphia (3:11) that Jesus said to “hold fast what you have.” So this got me to consider that perhaps both groups were possibly being told to “hold fast” to many of the same things–but it is also interesting to see that Thyatirans are threatened with the Great Tribulation (2:22).

They might be those that are still in (or supportive of) the Grace Communion International (or some other COG group that accepted apostasy) who claim that since they personally hold fast to keeping the Sabbath and Holy Days, avoid unclean meats, and the other doctrines of the Thyatira COG. Instead of placing their top priority on proclaiming the gospel, they also seem to believe that their major work is to be faithful to doctrines personally while at the same time supporting those who know the depth of Satan.

We know these people truly cannot be the faithful remnant of the Philadelphia portion of the COG as they fail to respond to at least one of the truths that Herbert Armstrong claimed God used him to restore to that era, “And how in Revelation 18:4 that God has called us out from among them, to be separate” (Armstrong HW. Mission of the Philadelphia Church Era. Sermon, December 17, 1983); because instead of leaving spiritual Babylon and becoming separate, they publicly insist that they must remain faithful to the renamed WCG corporation until it puts them out (and even then, they still claim that organization is ‘God’s True Church’).

It may be of interest to note that this remnant may have been spiritually born about the same time that a possible last physical location of Thyatira (Bozod-Ujfalu) was destroyed. They are spiritually like weavers as they weave together (and apart) spiritual truth and error. Interestingly, the old Worldwide Church of God was renamed Grace Communion International under the leadership of a man whose last name, Tkach, according to an online English-Ukraine dictionary, means weaver. He is still the chairman of the board of GCI. Thyatirans seem to have compromised organizationally as well as misunderstanding the work.

In the remainder of this post, I would like to focus on some Thyatira doctrines and the Inquisition.

The Catholic Encyclopedia notes this about one of its inquisitors:

Bernard Guidonis
Inquisitor of Toulouse against the Albigenses and Bishop of Lodève, b. at Royères (Limousin) in 1261, d. at Lauroux (Hérault), 30 December, 1331. He was one of the most prolific writers of the Middle Ages (De Moreira M. Transcribed by Albert Judy, O.P. Bernard Guidonis. The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume II. Published 1907. New York: Robert Appleton Company. Nihil Obstat, 1907. Remy Lafort, S.T.D., Censor. Imprimatur. +John M. Farley, Archbishop of New York).

Here are some of the beliefs he found that those he persecuted held:

Nevertheless, attention should be called to the fact that among the Beguins are found some who know, accept and believe many or all of the errors listed below. These are more steeped and hardened in them. Others can say less about these errors yet are sometimes found to be worse in holding and believing them than are others. Still others have heard or remember less and yield to valid reason and saner counsel. Others obstinately persist and refuse to recant, choosing to die rather than abjure their errors, saying that in this matter they defend the gospel truth, the life of Christ, and evangelical and apostolic poverty…

Again, they say that the prelates and inquisitors who judged and condemned them as heretics – and indeed all those who consented or now consent knowingly to their condemnations – have by this action become heretics (if they persevere in it), and by this action have lost the ecclesiastical power to bind, loose and administer the ecclesiastical sacraments…

Again, they say that prelates and members of religious orders whose clothing is too abundant or too costly violate gospel perfection and Christ’s precept, according instead with the precept of Antichrist. Such clerics who go around in pompous fashion are of the family of Antichrist…

Again, they say they are not required to take oaths, nor should they be made to reveal under oath the names of their fellow believers, accomplices and associates, because, as they say, this would violate the command to love one’s neighbor and would on the contrary injure one’s neighbor…

they say the carnal church (by which they mean the Roman church as it exists, not only in the city of Rome, but throughout the whole area under Roman jurisdiction) is Babylon, the great whore of whom John spoke in the Apocalypse. Thus they apply these passages to the Roman Church and attribute to the church all the evil things written there, such as that it is drunk with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus Christ…

Again, they distinguish between two churches, the carnal church which they say is the Roman church which contains the multitude of rebrobate, and the spiritual church which contains those people they describe as spiritual and evangelical, who emulate the life of Christ and the apostles. They say the latter is their church…

Again, some of them claim that on those elect spiritual and evangelical individuals through whom a spiritual and benign church will be founded in the seventh and last period, the Holy Spirit will be poured out in greater or at least in equal abundance as on the apostles, the disciples of Jesus Christ, on the day of Pentecost during the time of the primitive church. And they say the Holy Spirit will descend on them like a fiery flame in a furnace, and they take this to mean that, not only will their souls be filled with the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit will live in their bodies as well.

Again, they claim that there is a double Antichrist, one spiritual or mystical and the other the real, greater Antichrist…

Again, they say that both in the time of persecution by Antichrist and in that of the aforesaid war carnal Christians will be so afflicted that, despairing, they will say, “If Christ were God, he would not permit Christians to suffer so much and such intense evil.” Thus despairing, they will apostacize from the faith and die. But God will hide the elect spiritual individuals so that they cannot be found by Antichrist and his ministers. Then the church will be reduced to the same size as the primitive church when it was first founded…

Again, they say that after Antichrist’s death these spiritual individuals will convert the entire world to the faith of Christ; and the whole world will be so good and benign that there will be no malice or sin in people of that period, except perhaps for venial sins in a few of them; and all things will be common as far as use is concerned; and there will be no one who offends anyone else or encourages another to sin. For there will be the greatest love among them, and there will be one flock and one pastor. According to some of them this period and condition will last for one hundred years. Then, as love fails, malice will creep back in and slowly increase until Christ is, as it were, compelled to come in universal judgment because of it.

Again, these insane heretics seriously and ignominiously rail against the Lord Pope, the vicar of Jesus Christ, calling him the mystical Antichrist, precursor of the greater Antichrist, preparing the way for his life (Bernard Gui: Inquisitor’s Manual, Chapter 5. Translated by David Burr, History Department, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. http://phi.kenyon.edu/Projects/Margin/inquisit.htm 04/09/07).

It should be pointed out that perhaps the Inquisitor slightly confused the millennium, the first part of it (happening after the death of Antichrist), with the 100 years which happens afterwards.

It should also be pointed out that Albigneses and Waldenses were sometimes arrested with the Beguins. Now while most that were killed in the Inquisition were not in the Church of God, nor were the Franciscan Beguins, it is obvious that Church of God doctrines such as that ministers should not dress like the Roman clerics, Christians are not to swear oaths, and that God will offer salvation to all, were clearly condemned by the Roman Catholics during the time of Thyatira.

As far as a spiritual or mystic antichrist and a later one, that is consistent with what the Apostle John taught in 1 John 2:18 (more on this can be found in the article Some Doctrines of Antichrist).

Furthermore, the same inquisitor claimed the following about the Albigenses:

In the first place, they usually say of themselves that they are good Christians, who do not swear, or lie, or speak evil of others; that they do not kill any man or animal, nor anything having the breath of life, and that they hold the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ and his gospel as the apostles taught. They assert that they occupy the place of the apostles, and that, on account of the above-mentioned things, they of the Roman Church, namely the prelates, clerks, and monks, and especially the inquisitors of heresy persecute them and call them heretics, although they are good men and good Christians, and that they are persecuted just as Christ and his apostles were by the Pharisees.

Moreover they talk to the laity of the evil lives of the clerks and prelates of the Roman Church, pointing out and setting forth their pride, cupidity, avarice, and uncleanness of life, and such other evils as they know. They invoke with their own interpretation and according to their abilities the authority of the Gospels and the Epistles against the condition of the prelates, churchmen, and monks, whom they call Pharisees and false prophets, who say, but do no.

Then they attack and vituperate, in turn, all the sacraments of the Church, especially the sacrament of the eucharist, saying that it cannot contain the body of Christ, for had this been as great as the largest mountain Christians would have entirely consumed it before this. They assert that the host comes from straw, that it passes through the tails of horses, to wit, when the flour is cleaned by a sieve (of horse hair); that, moreover, it passes through the body and comes to a vile end, which, they say, could not happen if God were in it.

Of baptism, they assert that the water is material and corruptible and is therefore the creation of the evil power, and cannot sanctify the soul, but that the churchmen sell this water out of avarice, just as they sell earth for the burial of the dead, and oil to the sick when they anoint them, and as: they sell the confession of sins as made to the priests.

Hence they claim that confession made to the priests of, the Roman Church is useless, and that, since the priests may be sinners, they cannot loose nor bind, and, being unclean in themselves, cannot make others clean. They assert, moreover, that the cross of Christ should not be adored or venerated, because, as they urge, no one would venerate or adore the gallows upon which a father, relative, or friend had been hung. They urge, further, that they who adore the cross ought, for similar reasons, to worship all thorns and lances, because as Christ’s body was on the cross during the passion, so was the crown of thorns on his head and the soldier’s lance in his side, They proclaim many other scandalous things in regard to the sacraments.

Moreover they read from the Gospels and the Epistles in the vulgar tongue, applying and expounding them in their favor and against the condition of the Roman Church in a manner which it would take too long to describe in detail; but all that relates to this subject may be read more fully in the books they have written and infected, and may be learned from the confessions of such of their followers as have been converted. (From the Inquisitor’s Manual of Bernard Gui [d.1331], early 14th century, translated in J. H. Robinson, Readings in European History, (Boston: Ginn, 1905), pp. 381-383, http://essenes.crosswinds.net/albe.html 05/27/07).

I will simply state that we in the Continuing Church of God consider ourselves to be true Christians, do not swear, do not kill any man, do consider inquisitors as non-Christians, do not consider that the “Eucharist” is the actual flesh of Christ, oppose the selling of sacraments, do not believe priests can forgive sin, do not revere instruments of death like the cross, do normally read the Bible in the Vulgar tongue (which is English in my case), and that we hold the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ and His gospel as the apostles taught (this latter point is shown fairly clearly in the article Which Is Faithful: The Roman Catholic Church or the Continuing Church of God?).

And as the inquisitor’s accounts show, our positions were also held in the Middle Ages (for documentation that our views have been held since the beginning of the Church age, please go to the History of Early Christianity page).

The following might be of interest to some:

Thyatira Era Begins The pope in 1096 described the Valley Louise in Dauphiny, France, as infested with “heresy.” It was a result of Paulician and Bogomil evangelization of the Alpine regions. About 1104, a man from this valley, called Peter of Bruys, began at Embrun to preach REPENTANCE throughout Languedoc and Provence…One of the definitions of the Greek word Thyatira is “sweet savor of contrition,” in other words, “real repentance.” Peter of Bruys taught that infant baptism was useless. He only baptized persons old enough to know and mean what they were doing — that is, only AFTER REAL REPENTANCE. He further rejected the Catholic MYSTERY teaching that the priest in the Mass produced the literal flesh of Christ. He opposed reverence for crosses, emphasis on huge church edifices, the fable of purgatory, prayers for the dead with their inevitable heavy bribes paid to the greedy religious leaders who falsely claimed to represent God. Converted followers gathered around Peter of Bruys. God’s Church was beginning again to do a Work. Freed from the errors of Cathars and Catholics, a spiritual gospel was once again being widely preached. The numbers of truly converted — those led by the Holy Spirit — multiplied. They kept God’s Sabbath. For “nearly twenty years” Peter preached. Then the false church would no longer stand for this open rejection of its authority. He was taken and burned alive at the stake…

The Waldenses recognized that they were the true successors of the apostolic church. They kept the SABBATH, also the yearly PASSOVER. And each September or October (in God’s seventh month — see Lev. 23), they held at the headquarters church a great “conference.” As many as 700 persons attended from afar. New students were chosen, ministerial assignments were made, AND CROWDS GATHERED DAILY TO LISTEN TO SERMONS. What could this gathering have been but the Feast of Tabernacles! Under the name of Passagini, we have the clearest sort of statement that these people, about 1200, observed the whole Old Testament law, including the Sabbath and FESTIVALS! People called Cathars at Cologne, Germany, kept a fall festival, called “Malilosa”, even before Waldo began to preach. Compare this unexplained name with Hebrew “melilah” (a harvested ear of grain — Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance) and the Biblical title “Feast of Ingathering” (Ex. 23:16). How much more we might have known about these Middle Ages’ Feasts of Tabernacles had not the Inquisitors so zealously burned the records! The three-part division of tithes paid the Waldensian Church is significant. Even in the 1500’s the same division continued. “The money given us by the people is carried to the aforesaid general council, and is delivered in the presence of all, and there it is received by the most ancients (the elders), and part thereof is given to those that are wayfaring men, according to their necessities, and part unto the poor” (George Morel, Waldensian elder, quoted by Lennard, “History of the Waldenses”). 1. Compare this practice with Num. 18:21 and Deut. 14:22-25, 28-29. Isn’t it exactly what the Bible commands?… Most authors have ASSUMED the “wayfaring men” were the traveling “barbel.” But THEIR expenses would have been paid from the money given the elders, at EVERY time of year, for the direct conduct of the Work — “first” tithe and offerings. Notice that in Numbers 18:21. What Morel then mentions is a “second” tithe, for those traveling to and from the festivals — wayfaring men; and following it, the “third” to the poor. See the explanation in Deut. 14. Feast goers who had more “second tithe” than they needed shared their excess with those who had need, even as they do today! (LESSON 51 (1968) AMBASSADOR COLLEGE BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place …” Rev. 12:6).

Because those of Thyatira would have not kept the Greco-Roman holidays and would have tended towards the biblical holy days, this would be another reason that they would have been subject to persecutions (see also Persecutions by Church and State).

(As far as the geographic area of Thyatira, it is part of a Turkish city called Akhisar.)

BBC: Mike Pence ‘welcomes’ senators’ bid to derail result; PCG: Some titanic frauds are about to be exposed!

Sunday, January 3rd, 2021

January 2021 edition of PCG’s Trumpet magazine

COGwriter

The BBC posted the following:

Biden election: Mike Pence ‘welcomes’ senators’ bid to derail result

3 January 2021

US Vice-President Mike Pence has welcomed an effort by a group of senators to refuse to certify Joe Biden’s presidential election win.

The 11 Republican senators and senators-elect, led by Ted Cruz, want a 10-day delay to audit unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud.

The move is certain to fail as most senators are expected to endorse Mr Biden in the 6 January vote.

Mr Biden, a Democrat, is due to be inaugurated as president on 20 January. …

Mr Pence has stopped short of echoing allegations of election fraud. But on Saturday, his chief of staff Marc Short said Mr Pence shared what he called “the concerns of millions of Americans about voter fraud and irregularities”.

Mr Pence “welcomes the efforts of members of the House and Senate to use the authority they have under the law to raise objections and bring forward evidence before the Congress and the American people”, Mr Short said.

As president of the Senate, Mr Pence will have the responsibility of overseeing the session on 6 January and declaring Mr Biden the winner. https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-55517626

Now, I do agree with Mike Pence that there were irregularities in the November 2020 presidential election. But, thus far, no court or state government has accepted that the amount was sufficient enough to change the outcome.

But as the courts and state governments are biased, that does not mean that there was not a lot of fraud. We will see whether or not it will be exposed and accepted.

That being said, Gerald Flurry’s church, PCG keeps ‘doubling down’ on the view that Donald Trump must remain in office, essentially because Gerald Flurry believes he is a “modern day Jeroboam.”

Here is something from its Andrew Miller:

Was election-rigging software designed for the Central Intelligence Agency used to steal the 2020 presidential election? Former senior National Security Agency analyst Kirk Wiebe believes it was. …

English-speaking peoples who settled the U.S. and Britain are the descendants of ancient Israel. This astonishing truth means that the Bible’s end-time prophecies concerning Israel are directed at the U.S. and Britain.

One of these end-time prophecies foretells of a time when God will use a human leader to temporarily save Israel from being destroyed. “For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel. And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash” (2 Kings 14:26-27). …

President Trump’s prophesied work is not finished. Therefore, God will use him to save America from a “deep state” plot to transform the nation into a Marxist dictatorship!

If you have not done so, please read “Why Donald Trump Will Remain America’s President,” by Gerald Flurry. It boldly forecasts that President Trump will remain in office, relying upon Bible prophecies in 2 Kings 14 and Amos 7. Some titanic frauds are about to be exposed! 12/31/20 https://www.thetrumpet.com/23361-nsa-whistleblower-kirk-wiebe-exposes-us-stolen-election

Do I believe that Amos 7 is a Donald Trump prophecy?

No.

Gerald Flurry has been wrong about Amos 7 before as here is some of what Gerald Flurry wrote that was published in the April 2017 edition of his Philadelphia Trumpet article related to Amos 7:7-17 and the end (with bolding added):

Amos 7:7-17 show that our time is very limited. What is going to happen in the next four years or perhaps even less?

This is one of the strongest, most urgent warnings in the Bible!

“Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit” (verse 14). Amos had no formal seminary or college training. God simply gave him a job. Even without “credentials,” God used this man!

“Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac. Therefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land” (verses 16-17). Amos had a very different view from Amaziah: He knew this was a message from God!

“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord” (Amos 8:11). How will this famine of the word come about? God’s Church will be forced to leave. No one will be here to deliver the message anymore. When this faithful remnant of God’s people is taken to a place of safety, God’s message will cease, except what we do from there. The nations of Israel have had over 80 years to heed this message, but soon they will not be able to even find it.

Verse 14 talks about people who are going to “fall, and never rise up again.” This is talking about 50 percent of God’s own Laodicean or lukewarm church who will lose their eternal lives! What a tragedy—the greatest tragedy in this end time! …

God is about to send nuclear fire! (see also verses 4, 7, 10, 12, 14; 2:2, 5). …

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?” (verses 7-8). We have to prophesy! We have so much wonderful truth and a powerful message from God that must be delivered to the end-time nations of Israel!

No, 50% of Laodiceans are not to lose their eternal lives by April of 2021, which would be four years after Gerald Flurry’s article was officially published (it actually was published a month or so earlier). Gerald Flurry will soon be proven wrong about that. And while the USA may well experience a nuclear fire, it will not happen before 2025. Gerald Flurry is NOT God’s prophet.

Last month in another attempt to try to support its prediction about Donald Trump, PCG posted that it felt the Supreme Court could accept the Texas lawsuit to challenge certain states’ results and overturn the election because of something its Gerald Flurry had written, but that did not happen as PCG hoped (see PCG: Will This Texas Lawsuit Overturn the Presidential Election?).

PCG keeps pressing the view that Donald Trump must remain in office, essentially because Gerald Flurry believes he is a “modern day Jeroboam.”

Whether or not Donald Trump can remain in office, the results are not based on PCG’s assertions. They are not biblically-based, nor do I believe that God led them to their conclusions.

CGFF’s Alton ‘Don’ Billingsley also has insisted that Donald Trump will remain in office (see CGFF and PCG have distorted logic as to why they assert Donald Trump will remain President of the United States), yet then get replaced by Hillary Clinton (see CGFF’s Alton Billingsley again projects Hillary Clinton as President of the USA, but let’s also look at what he wrote before).

Neither CGFF and PCG are Philadelphian (see also The Philadelphia Church Era)–and they do NOT hold the Philadelphian mantle (see also Herbert W. Armstrong, the Philadelphia Church, & the Mantle). Furthermore, they also simply do not have the confirmed prophetic signs of Acts 2:17-18. Nor do the Laodicean churches who God has not chosen to significantly have the confirmed prophetic signs of Acts 2:17-18. Many Laodiceans (though not referring to themselves that way) seem to think that those who have not prophesied are ‘safer’ than those who have prophesied falsely–and while in a sense that is true, Jesus warned about those who buried their talents because they were afraid to boldly do the work in Matthew 25:24-30. In the end times, many Christians are not sufficiently profitable servants (cf. Revelation 3:-14-22)–not just those who have been deceived to follow false prophets, but also those who have deceived themselves to not support any true ones.

Let me state that several Protestant “prophets” (Kat Kerr is one of them) have declared that God/The Spirit/Something told them that Donald Trump will win despite what the current situation looks like.

If Donald Trump does stay in office, those making assertions will insist that God told them and they were speaking for Him. My view remains that if Donald Trump somehow remains in office, it is possible that the demons knew some important details about the election and they passed their conclusions on to some people.

On the other hand, if Donald Trump does not remain in office, this will be a major embarrassment, and another proven false prediction by PCG’s Gerald Flurry (to cite a couple, he first wrongly identified Joe Tkach as the ‘man of sin,’ then Joe Tkach, Jr., whereas neither of them can be; he also has improper identified Vladimir Putin as the Prince of Rosh–see PCG: Teachings Unique to the Philadelphia Church of God). And then he will apparently come up with some explanation, perhaps related to Donald Trump winning in 2024, to try to detract from his errors on the 2020 election. While many there might tolerate that, some likely will finally see the light of truth under that scenario.

Related to leaders etc., all should pray for them as the Apostle Paul taught:

1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior (1 Timothy 2:1-3).

Notice that we are to pray for worldly leaders and those that have authority over us so that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life.

All should also pray as Jesus taught that God’s Kingdom will come and His will be done (Matthew 6:10).

I365: One World Government: A Necessary Evil for Messiah to Prevail, Mystical Rabbi Proclaims

Israel365 News (I365) reported the following:

One World Government: A Necessary Evil for Messiah to Prevail, Mystical Rabbi Proclaims

January 3, 2021

For those struggling to find spiritual meaning in the turmoil through which we are living, the recent words of Rabbi Alon Anava, speaking from the holy city of Tzfat in northern Israel, are intended to bring clarity.

“You can clearly see that the force of evil and darkness is trying to annihilate the force of good,” he stated. “The reality is that we are facing annihilation any way you look at it.”

Anava advised his listeners not to be stressed, depressed or lose hope because, “at the end of the day, it’s all the orchestra of the Kadosh Baruch Hu (the Holy One, Blessed is He). The Master of the Universe is preparing it all.” He emphasized that worry is a waste of time, since this is all part of God’s final battle against evil. …

Turning his attention to the plan for a one world government, which he says is a plot of those on the side of evil, Anava suggested that they are, ironically, actually preparing for the universal rule of the Messiah. “How can Moshiach (Messiah) control if there’s going to be governments? So they are actually doing the job for Moshiach.

“Either way, we aren’t going to have any governments anymore. There’s going to be a King [for] the entire world and all the Nations will have to bow down to this same King. There’s going to be one King and one government.

“Moshiach is for the rest of the world. It’s not just for Jews. That’s a misconception. Moshiach is for the entire world. He’s going to be the King of the world.

“What we see in front of our eyes is Hashem (God) doing it in His kind way. It looks like darkness is becoming stronger [but in reality] it’s darkness diminishing. The evil is diminishing.” https://www.israel365news.com/163514/one-world-government-a-necessary-evil-for-messiah-to-prevail-mystical-rabbi-proclaims/

Yes, there will be a one world government. And yes the Messiah will reign in the coming Kingdom of God.

However, the Messiah is Jesus and He absolutely does NOT need humanity to form a one world government to make it easier for Him to reign.

Those of us which believe the Book of Revelation (Jews do not), realize that even although there will a totalitarian government on the earth before Jesus returns, we also realize that the nations of the world will actually fight against the returning Messiah:

11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”

19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh. (Revelation 19:11-21)

15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15)

The fact that multiple kings on the earth will fight against Jesus shows that God does not need humanity to be under one government of humans before Jesus can reign.

Last Summer, another rabbi talked about a coming globalist government and actually gave dates for the Messiah to appear:

July 21, 2020

In a recent interview, renowned Israeli Rabbi Daniel Asor warned of a globalist takeover happening as we speak. “If Hitler is the Third Reich, then the New World Order is the fourth Reich. It is Amalek’s last meeting with us before the Messiah’s arrival” he said.

Based on the Kabalah teachings written by Italian Jewish rabbi and doctor Rabbi Moshe David Vali, who was a student and confidant of the prominent Jewish Kabbalist Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto (RaMCHaL), Rabbi Asor reveals the dates that the Messiah will reveal himself.

“We are very very close to redemption” Rabbi Asor said.

Warning of a one world government ruling the world, the rabbi cautions that in the Hebrew calendar year “Taf Shin Pey Aleph (September 2020-September 2021) from Tevet (January-February) until Elul (August–September) those will be the 9 months where the New World Order rules.

In the following year of Taf Shin Pey Bet (September 2021-September 2022), a year of the Yovel (Jubilee), on Yom Kippur 2021, the Messiah will reveal himself and then disappear” the Rabbi explained. Yom Kippur 2021 falls on the night of September 15 until nightfall on September 16.

The rabbi then sources the Talmud revealing that in the end of the Jubilee year, the Messiah will re-emerge again on Yom Kippur 2022 which falls on October 4-5. https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/155103/israeli-rabbi-reveals-date-of-messiahs-arrival-according-to-kabbalah/

No, the Messiah will NOT return that early.

The Kabalah is a form of Jewish mysticism which sometimes involves biblically-prohibited activities such as astrology. The Talmud is a collection of Jewish opinions on what we call the Old Testament–much of the Talmud has essentially been adopted by Jews as a tradition to rely on–and not just of the Kabalah-inclined Jews.

As Christians, not only do we not rely on astrology (see: The Bible and Astrology), like Jesus (cf. Mark 7:1-13) nor do we hold to Jewish opinions if they are in conflict with scripture (see also: Tradition and Scripture: From the Bible and Church Writings).

We Christians accept the New Testament, that the Jews do not.

Because of that, we know that:

  1. The Hitler-like leader (watch: European Unity to be like Hitler?) of the “New World Order” will be “given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months” (Revelation 13:5). Hence the claim of nine months is not right.
  2. Jesus has already came (see the free online book: Proof Jesus is the Messiah).
  3. Jesus cannot return until after numerous events He foretold and that the New Testament records take place (see also: When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?).

Jesus came once, but will return. Yet, Jesus is not going to appear as Daniel Asor claims in 2021 or 2022.

Perhaps it should be mentioned that even some old Jewish writings support the view that the Messiah would come twice. Notice the following from my free online book Proof Jesus is the Messiah:

Notice the following from the Hungarian-Jewish author Raphael Patai:

Messiah ben Joseph, also called Messiah ben Ephraim, referring to his ancestor Ephraim, the son of Joseph, is imagined as the first commander of the army of Israel in the Messianic wars. He will achieve many signal victories, but his fate is to die at the hands of Armilus in a great battle in which Israel is defeated by Gog and Magog. His corpse is left unburied in the streets of Jerusalem for forty days, but neither beast nor bird of prey dares to touch it. Then, Messiah ben David comes, and his first act is to bring about the resurrection of his tragic forerunner.

Scholars have repeatedly speculated about the origin of the Messiah ben Joseph legend and the curious fact that the Messiah figure has thus been split in two. It would seem that in the early legend, the death of the Messiah was envisaged, perhaps as a development of the Suffering Servant motif. A prophecy of Daniel, … is the earliest source speaking of the death of a Mashiah (“Anointed”) sixty-two (prophetic) weeks after his coming and after the return and the rebuilding of Jerusalem (Dan. 9:24-26). While it appears that Daniel had a temporal ruler in mind, whom he calls Mashiah Nagid (“Anointed Prince”), … later, the author of 4 Ezra unmistakably refers to the Messiah, belief in whom had developed in the meantime, when he puts words in the mouth of God to the effect that after four hundred years (counted from when?), MY son the Messiah shall die (4 Ezra 7:27-30).

When the death of the Messiah became an established tenet in Talmudic times, this was felt to be irreconcilable with the belief in the Messiah as the Redeemer who would usher in the blissful millennium of the Messianic age. The dilemma was solved by splitting the person of the Messiah in two: one of them, called Messiah ben Joseph, was to raise the armies of Israel against their enemies, and, after many victories and miracles, would fall victim to Gog and Magog. The other, Messiah ben David, will come after him (in some legends will bring him back to life, which psychologically hints at the identity of the two), and will lead Israel to the ultimate victory, the triumph, and the Messianic era of bliss.

This splitting of the Messiah in two persons, which took place in the Talmudic period, achieved another purpose besides resolving the dilemma of the slain Messiah. According to an old tradition, the Messiah was perfectly prefigured in Moses. But Moses died before he could lead the Children of Israel into the Land of Promise. Consequently, for the parallel to be complete, the Messiah, too, had to die before accomplishing his great task of ultimate Redemption. Since however, the Messiah would not be the True Redeemer of God if he did not fulfill that ultimate task, the only solution was to let one Messiah, like Moses, die, and then assign the completion of the work of Redemption to a second Messiah. (Patai R. The Messiah Texts: Jewish Legends of Three Thousand Years. Wayne State University Press, 2015, pp. 165-166)

Thus, it should be clear that some Jewish scholars felt the Messiah could suffer or die. Furthermore, though the above comes up with two Messiahs, the Bible shows that Jesus came once—and fulfilled over 200 prophecies—and that Jesus will come a second time to fulfill others. …

Furthermore:

On the Great Day of Atonement the Jew feels that his sins must be forgiven before God. On that day even Isaiah 53 is sometimes mentioned. Although Isaiah 53 has been omitted from the annual reading of the prophets, so called haphtaroth, it appears in a remarkable prayer which is read in the Synagogue. The separate prayerbook for the feast days, the Mahzor Rabbah, contains a literary prayer by Rabbi Eleazar Qalir which may be from the ninth or even from the sixth century AD. … The main body of the prayer reads as follows:

“Then, before the creation, he already set up the Temple and the Messiah (the Rabbis’ interpretation) – the Messiah our Righteousness has turned away from us, we are shaken, and can find no-one who can justify us. The yoke of our sins and our transgressions is a burden to us; and he was wounded for our transgressions, he suffered on his shoulders our iniquities-, there is forgiveness for our sins. In his wounds we are healed; it is time to create for ever a new creation. Send him back from the circles, bring him back from Seir, so that we might hear him in Lebanon a second time through Yinnon. He is our God, our Father, our King, he is our Saviour and he will liberate and redeem us for a second time and let us hear of his grace a second time in everyone’s sight, as it is said: ‘I will save you at the end as at the beginning so that I will be your God.” (Santala, pp. 111-112)

Thus, there are several reasons to conclude that some early Jews did believe that some of the passages of the servant in Isaiah 52/53 were messianic. Denying that in the 20th and 21st centuries does not change historical facts. The view that an old Atonement prayer supports the idea of a second coming of a messiah from a Jewish perspective is also interesting.

Perhaps it should be pointed out that Risto Santala translated a portion of the Ruth Rabbah V,8,1 as follows:

the kingdom taken from him for a time … he was restored to his kingdom (Santala, p. 126)

The above is consistent with a second coming of the messiah, like Christians teach. (Thiel B. Proof Jesus is the Messiah. Nazarene Books, 2018)

Now let’s look at something from the Hebrew scriptures:

25 “Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

26 “And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. (Daniel 9:25-26)

As it turns out, Jesus came when that prophecy in the Hebrew scriptures (the Old Testament) said the Prince Messiah would come. The Jews should have realized this.

The historical fact that the Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. and the biblical prophecy shows that the Messiah would come BEFORE the Temple was destroyed, should be proof to the Jews. Notice also a Jewish translation of Daniel 9:26:

26 Then, after the sixty-two weeks, Mashiach will be cut off and have nothing. The people of a prince yet to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary, but his end will come with a flood, and desolations are decreed until the war is over. (Daniel 9:26, CJB)

The “anointed one” is the Messiah (rendered as the “Mashiach” in the Complete Jewish Bible). Thus, Jews should clearly realize that the Messiah already came and most did not recognize Him. Most still do not see Him. And furthermore, the nations of the world will be angry when Jesus returns and will fight against Him according to New Testament prophecies (see Revelation 11:15-18, 19:16-19).

Let’s look at an explanation from the old Radio Church of God about the Daniel 9 prophecy:

At the time of Jesus’ life on this earth, Herod — the king in Judea — the wise men from the nations to the east, and many of the priests, scribes, and elders, as well as the common people, realized that the seventy weeks prophecy of Daniel 9 was nearing its completion. The Messiah, the Prince, was eagerly looked forward to, to free them from the yoke of Roman oppression. The Messiah was expected because of an understanding of this prophecy. But He was misunderstood when He appeared in the fulfillment of this prophecy, because they refused to recognize the first portion of the prophecy and hung their hope only on the last portion. …

Here, very plainly, is listed the exact time at which the prophesied Messiah would appear to begin to do the work mentioned in verse 24. The command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem was given by Artaxerxes in 457 B.C. Much of the book of Ezra and the entire book of Nehemiah cover this particular event. Seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks equal sixty-nine weeks. So the prophecies show that from the going forth of the command to rebuild Jerusalem in 457 B. C. it would be 483 years until the appearance of the prophesied Messiah to begin fulfilling the works of verse 24. (Hill DJ. HERE’S WHY Jews Reject Jesus and Christians Reject Christ! Plain Truth, April 1962)

Adding 483 to the year 457 B.C. brings the year 27 A.D. (there was no year “zero” between B.C. and A.D.). That brings us to the time that Jesus began His ministry (apparently in the Fall of the year). His ministry is believed to have lasted 3 ½ years, hence the veil would have been torn in the Spring of 31 A.D.

Consider also something from the Jewish Babylonian Talmud:

Rav says: The son of David will not come until the evil Roman kingdom will disperse throughout Eretz Yisrael for nine months, as it is stated: “Therefore will He give them up, until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the remnant of his brethren shall return with the children of Israel” (Micah 5:2/3). Once a period equivalent to a term of pregnancy passes, the redemption will come. (Sanhedrin 98b)

The New Testament (cf. John 11:48), as well as Jewish and other historical sources, clearly say that the time Jesus came was when Rome controlled Israel. This is also consistent with some Jewish writings about the timing of the Messiah.

Sadly, despite the fact that Jesus fulfilled over 200 writings/prophecies in the Hebrew scriptures (for details, check out our free online book: Proof Jesus is the Messiah), many still do not see this.

The Jews should have accepted Jesus, but, as prophesied in the Bible, most rejected Him:

3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. (Isaiah 53:3)

21 The governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas!” 22 Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!” 23 Then the governor said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!” (Matthew 27:21-23)

The Jews expected Jesus to come as a king. But on His first coming He came as a Prince.

As far as Daniel 9 and the Jews go, the Continuing Church of God has this sermon on our ContinuingCOG channel:

1:15:14

Daniel 9, Jews, and Jesus

Does Daniel 9 point to Jesus as Christians claim? ‘Jews for Judaism’ claim that it does not. What does history show? Do writings from the Bible as well as Jewish scholars (like Rashi) point to Jesus’ ministry in c. 27 A.D.? Is the Jewish ‘Seder Olam’ correct about the Anno Mundi (Age of the world) year? Have intentional misapplications of Daniel 9 led to millions of deaths? Did Rabbi Akiva change chronology so that Daniel 9:24-26 could point to Simon Bar Kochba instead of Jesus? Did the Messiah have to come before 70 A.D. (70 CE) according to Daniel 9? Do rabbinical interpretations of Hosea 6:2 point to Jesus? Did Amos warn against leaders causing others to lie? Does Daniel 9 help prove to reasonable people that Jesus was the prophesied Messiah? This is the second part of a two-part sermon series about why Jews do not accept Jesus as the Messiah. But it is the sixth-part of a multi-part sermon series on proving Jesus is the Messiah.

Here is a link to the sermon: Daniel 9, Jews, and Jesus.

Regarding some Jewish messianic views, we put together a video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel related to the Temple destruction and the Messiah:

26:15

Jerusalem Temple Destruction and the Messiah

Was there any connection between prophesies of the Messiah and the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D? On the 9th day of the fifth month on the Hebrew calendar, Jews fast because of the destruction of that Temple and other events that have befell the Jews. Did you know that the Jews tie the birth of the Messiah in with the month of Av? They also tie positive events from then to ‘Rosh Hoshana’ in the month of Tishri. Is there any relationship to Jesus and the first feast in Tishri? Did Jesus’ prophesies related to the Temple come to pass? What do Jewish and non-Jewish sources report about what happened to Jerusalem and the Temple? Did Jesus come when the Messiah was prophesied to start His ministry in Daniel 9? What happened when Jesus was killed? Was there a time of transition until the Temple was to be destroyed on August 30, 70 A.D.? What should Jews and others do related to the Messiah and the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem? What seems to have happened to some of the ashlar stones that were part of that Temple? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more.

Here is a link to our video: Jerusalem Temple Destruction and the Messiah.

Why Don’t Jews Accept Jesus?

There are over 200 prophecies and other statements in the Hebrew scriptures that the New Testament shows that Jesus fulfilled. So, why aren’t all the religious Jews Christians? Are reasons given by various Jews, including the Jewish Encyclopedia valid? Is there any insight from the Dead Sea Scrolls? Does the Old Testament as well as Jewish writings not part of the Hebrew scriptures support the idea that Jesus was born, did miracles, suffered for sins, was executed, and resurrected in three days? Did Jesus come when the Messiah was supposed to come? Did things happen to the Temple, the Day of Atonement, and the Sanhedrin that should give Jews reasons to conclude Jesus was the prophesied Messiah? Dr. Thiel provides answers to this from the Bible as well as many ancient Jewish writings.

Here is a link to the sermon: Why Don’t Jews Accept Jesus?

Jews should have accepted Jesus. The New Testament records that He fulfilled over 200 prophecies in the Old Testament, He came when the Romans ruled, and the Temple was destroyed after Jesus came, consistent with the prophecy in Daniel 9.

For more details, check out our free online book: Proof Jesus is the Messiah.

Of course, it is not just Jews that give false prophecies. Last Summer we posted here about some false Protestant prophets (‘THREE Prophetic WARNING DREAMS!!! “BRACE YOURSELVES” [Pastor Dana Coverstone]’ and Express: End of the world: NEOWISE, asteroid and Ring of Fire eclipse ‘sign of the APOCALYPSE’)/

Furthermore, we also continue to warn against Laodicean Prophetic Errors.

Anyway, while more totalitarianism is coming, human governmental cooperation per se (since some will happen),  is certainly NOT essential for Jesus to return.

However, signs that He pointed to are (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? and/or watch 2021: The Great Tribulation or the Great Reset?).

BibleNewsProphecy: Interfaith movement pushing LGBTQ+ agenda

COGwriter

The Continuing Church of God (CCOG) is pleased to announce the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

15:05
Deutsche Welle reported “LGBT conversion therapy: Religious leaders call for ban to ‘abhorrent’ practice.” 370 religious leaders around the world have declared their support for the LGBTQ+ agenda. They declare their support of the view of the World Health Organization that it is normal to not be cisgender heterosexual. They bemoan “that certain religious teachings have often, throughout the ages” (like those of the Bible) have “caused … offense to those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex.” The Global Interfaith Commission on LGBT+ Lives wants people to tell their religious leaders to sign a supportive “Global Declaration.’ Yet, this is in conflict with scripture. In this video, Dr. Thiel quotes scriptures from the Holy Bible that clearly oppose and condemn homosexuality, lesbianism, transgenderism, and male effeminacy. God is not the author of confusion. Dr. Thiel also quotes passages in the Bible where God warns what will happen to those who despise His statutes, abhors God’s judgments, so that you do not perform all His commandments. Dr. Thiel also points to the totalitarian system the interfaith agenda is moving towards.
