Japan Warns India Against Future Nuclear Tests

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Iran was not the only country with nuclear power issues in the news today:

Japan minister warns India against nuclear tests

By Rupam Jain Nair (AFP) –

NEW DELHI — Japan’s foreign minister warned India on Saturday against conducting any new nuclear tests, saying such a move would force a halt to any civilian nuclear cooperation between the two countries.   http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5gidySTRElq0qbJnTK9pBYeB1m5Cg

India wants more energy for its people and considers that nuclear reactors are one of the most cost-effective ways to acquire the energy it feels it needs.

India basically believes that the nuclear power technology it needs externally can be best supplied by Japan.  But Japan is telling India that it will cut India off it conducts any more nuclear tests.

While Pakistan (often considered India’s chief military threat) has its current internal problems (including the massive flooding), India may feel that it can forgo conducting nuclear tests until after it gets the technology it needs from Japan and/or learns enough so that it will no longer need Japan.

And while the Japanese likely realize this, they feel that they can conduct business with India (for a while) under their terms.  This deal, presuming it happens, will apparently increase the financial wealth of both of these Asian nations.

Iran Loads Nuclear Fuel Rods

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Bushehr, Iran

COGwriter

Iran began loading nuclear fuel rods into its nuclear reactor in Bushehr today.

Iran Launches Controversial Bushehr Nuclear Plant (VOA 21 Aug 2010)

Former US Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton had said that if Israel wanted to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions, it would have needed to strike it before this happened today.  But he did not think Israel would, and he was correct.  The basic logic for why John Bolton thought it could be an option is that when Israel eliminated an Iraqi nuclear power plant in the past, it did it before it had the nuclear fuel rods loaded.  Basically, by eliminating the plant before it became nuclear, environmental damage could be greatly minimized (as opposed to having the massive amounts of nuclear contamination–Israel will get a lot a flack from any attack, and minimizing damage is generally considered to be in its self-interest).

FWIW, I did a radio interview on Wednesday and was asked about this possible attack by Israel.  Essentially, I told the host that while I did believe that Israel could attack Iran, I did not believe it could be this week/prior to the loading of the nuclear fuel rods.

While it is not yet 100% clear when Israel will likely attack Iran, the idea that it could begin as early as next month remains a possibility.  Since Iran is NOT going to be the final King of the South, it will likely either be militarily somewhat leveled, have another revolution that will change its direction, and/or be impressed with a rising Islamic leader from North Africa and/or the Middle East and provide that leader support.

UCG’s Beyond Today

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

COGwriter

Yesterday, several of us watched the Angels & Demons episode of UCG’s Beyond Today, which we had recorded from WGN.  It is on immediately after PCG’s Key of David telecast (which I have not seen in many years, and then only once or twice).  This may have been the first time I have ever seen an entire UCG telecast.

UCG uses sort of a committee approach to its telecast.  In the episode we saw, it had a main presenter, Gary Petty.  And then there was a panel discussion featuring Gary Petty, Darris McNeely, and Steve Myers, all of whom are ministers in the United Church of God.

The subject matter was biblically supportable.  The stage, filming, etc. was professional.  My wife commented that Gary Petty seemed to try really hard.  The one son of ours who saw it with us felt it was boring, and not like LCG’s Tomorrow’s World telecast.  The were one or two firm statements related to this subject that were NOT made on the telecast that I believe LCG would have made (and I believe did make on a telecast with a similar topic) and UCG should have made, but that is simply my opinion.

Television has never been a top financial priority for UCG, and going on WGN seems to be its first real effort to put some significant financial backing to its telecasting efforts.  How long it may do this in its current economic state is a question.   UCG will have to examine that as well as whatever fruits it believes the telecast produces.

On other UCG matters, many in UCG are observing a fast today.

In other UCG news, it hopes to reconcile its situation with Latin America, and will read an announcement in services today that basically says the sides would still like to talk.  Here is part of that statement:

It is the Council’s sincere desire that this process will lead to reconciliation. As this process continues, the Council will strive to be respectful of all parties—ministers and members alike. Plans, however, for the newly organized weekly services and Feast sites in Latin America will continue.

The fact that UCG will continue with “newly organized weekly services and Feast sites in Latin America” suggests that the sides are still not that close.  But that can change.  UCG has a form of governance that has led to a lot of leadership and directional changes in its relatively short history.

How long Beyond Today will remain on WGN or similar commercial stations in the future is probably not something that anyone there can probably answer (beyond whatever contractual arrangements UCG entered into).  And its probably best not to comment more about it at this time.

Scientists Agree With Bible that Universe Will Expand Forever

Friday, August 20th, 2010

COGwriter

Scientists have concluded that the universe will continue to expand forever:

A “galactic lens” has revealed that the Universe will probably expand forever. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11030889)

The universe ‘will expand forever’, new Nasa study on ‘dark energy’ concludes (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7955379/The-universe-will-expand-forever-new-Nasa-study-on-dark-energy-concludes.html)

Universe ‘will expand forever’ (http://www.brahmand.com/news/Universe-will-expand-forever/4747/3/13.html)

Those of us in the Churches of God have long believed this based, not upon telescopic images, but the following scriptures:

7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end (Isaiah 9:7).

33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end. (Luke 1:33)

The only way for God’s kingdom to continue to increase forever is if the universe expands forever.

Now, this expansion view causes scientists a problem.

Which is?

That it means that the universe had a beginning.  Of course, Bible believers have always know this as the Bible starts out with the following:

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

Yet, as certain scientists did not want to accept that the universe had a beginning, some instead tended to want to believe a certain type of nonsense called the oscillating universe theory.   I always felt that that theory violated the known laws of physics and was an attempt by some scientists to try to persuade themselves that there the universe had no beginning and that there was no God (for more details, see the article Is God’s Existence Logical?).

Now, scientists are still not generally publicly ready to embrace the idea of a Creator.  But the fact that they are starting to admit that the universe will expand forever means that they are distancing themselves away from the oscillating universe theory.  And without the oscillating universe theory, they have to admit that the universe had a beginning in a specific point in time.  And the Bible is clear about that (Genesis 1:1).

Many Americans Believe that Barack Obama is Muslim

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

COGwriter

The following news item reveals that many Americans believe that Barack Obama’s religious faith is Islam:

Despite Obama’s attendance in church and his repeated public statements about his Christian faith, nearly one in five respondents on the survey said they believed he is a practitioner of Islam, while only 34 percent of Americans correctly identified him as a Christian, down sharply from a year earlier…

“While the president has been diligent and personally committed to his own Christian faith, there’s certainly folks who are intent on spreading falsehoods about the president and his values and beliefs,” faith adviser Joshua DuBois said.  http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hwFYAYB-jTz3YBbh1QJsbf52MViw

There are a couple of points above that I would challenge.

First, President Obama does NOT attend church on a regular basis.  He did prior to his election, but stopped after being elected.  Second, he clearly is not diligent and personally committed to his faith.

Third, the President has made enough statements to Muslim leaders that suggest he is highly open to their perspectives.  More than any other president in the USA’s history.

Fourth, although he reportedly prays, Barack Obama also reportedly carries a Hindu monkey god idol along with him on occasion.

Fifth, there has never been a less supportive USA president for the nation of Israel than Barack Obama.

It is basically because Barack Obama’s own statements and practices that have caused many to think he not a real Christian and that he possibly is Muslim (though Muslims would not carry idols in their pockets).

Guttenberg Proposes Major Modernization of Germany’s Military

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Karl-Theodor von und zu Guttenberg

Karl-Theodor von und zu Guttenberg

COGwriter

Germany’s defense minister has once again in the news:

New York Times – Aug 18, 2010

BERLIN — On Friday, the German defense minister, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, is set to present to Chancellor Angela Merkel his plans to modernize the Bundeswehr, the country’s armed forces. From all accounts, it could be one of the most radical and long overdue shake-ups undertaken in decades by a defense minister. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/19/world/europe/19iht-letter.html

As regular readers of the COGwriter site are aware, I suspect that Karl Guttenberg is someone to watch for being the potential Beast, final King of the North in biblical prophecy.   The above article also stated:

But Mr. Guttenberg has other big questions to answer. He has to explain to the public why Germany needs such a modern army.

Currently the average German probably wonders a bit about why Germany needs such a modern army.  The reasons, however, are fairly clear.  Germany relies too heavily on the USA for its defense and the USA is cutting is military spending.  Without the USA, Germany is no match for Russia, should that nation get highly aggressive.

Now, a reason that will likely not be made public is that Germany needs a modern military to be able to  take over the USA (Daniel 11:39).  It also needs a modern military in order to fulfill the following biblical prophecy:

4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:4)

Germany is not yet ready to fulfill the above, but it is getting closer.  Modernizing its military is one essential step to fulfill that prophecy.

While it is not yet clear if Karl Guttenberg will be the final King of the North, he remains one to watch.

PCG Still Insisting Iran is the King of the South

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Naqsh-e Jahan Square, Iran

COGwriter

PCG’s Brad MacDonald recently wrote the following:

Since its inception in 1990, the Trumpet has explained that Iran (at the head of radical Islamic terrorism) is the “king of the south” discussed in Daniel 11:40

While PCG knows that Iran is not south of Jerusalem and should know that the late Herbert W. Armstrong did not teach this, it insists on this improper teaching anyway.

Partially because it considers that Gerald Flurry is a prophet and partially because PCG considers that Iran is the final King of the South, PCG members will not understand end time prophecies.

Those in PCG need to follow the advice of the late Herbert W. Armstrong and “blow the dust off of their Bibles” before it is too late (for most there, it may be too late already).

And while there may be confrontation between Israel and Iran in 2010, this will not change Iran’s relative geography.  Iran is basically due east of Jerusalem, not south.  Iran is not the final King of the South of Daniel 11:40 (though Iran might assist such a leader).

USA EU Summit & 2013 Debt Crisis

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

COGwriter

The Obama Administration is going to have a summit meeting with leaders of the European Union in November:

BRUSSELS – The White House has confirmed that US President Barack Obama will meet EU leaders Herman Van Rompuy and Jose Manuel Barroso in Lisbon on 20 November in the margins of a larger Nato event.

“The US has no stronger partner than Europe in advancing security and prosperity around the world. The US and the European Union are currently working together to advance a broad agenda based on a common history, shared values and enduring ties,” it said in a communique on Tuesday (17 August). (http://euobserver.com/9/30635)

While the USA and EU are currently allies, according to Bible prophecy this will change and be a disaster for the Americans (Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-6; Habakkuk 2:3-8).  I have long warned that the increasing cooperation of America’s GPS and Europe’s Galileo satellite projects will be disastrous for the USA (see USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected).   Yet, the USA seems determined to put itself in harm’s way militarily.

And speaking of the military and NATO, the EU has been building an elaborate and expensive NATO headquarters in Europe (http://euobserver.com/9/30635).  And while many Americans are likely to conclude that this means that the EU will be committed to only working with the USA, that would be a mistake.  Few Americans realize that in September 2009, the first non-American because the Supreme Allied Commander for NATO in Europe.  Having all troops in Europe theoretically under the command structure of a European (French General Stéphane Abrial currently) will mean that Europe will be able to impact any retaliations that Americans may even attempt against Europe if Europe attacks.  Which, according to biblical prophecy, it will (Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-6).

According to a report from Moody’s (a bond rating service), the USA may be expected to have major debt problems as early as 2013:

If projections from the Congressional Budget Office hold true, a debt crisis will hit the U.S. by 2018 — and if those projections prove to be too optimistic, the crisis will be here by 2013, says Moody’s Investor Service. (http://www.moneynews.com/StreetTalk/Moodys-2013-Debt-Crisis/2010/05/19/id/359489)

Moody’s fears that the US will crash through its safety buffer by 2013 if growth falters (adverse scenario), with interest payments topping 14pc of tax revenues.(http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/7950775/Time-is-running-out-for-the-West.html)

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is supposedly non-partisan, but historically (in my view) tends to be a bit too optimistic.  But even the CBO is realizing that the USA is a major risk (see CBO: Debt to Increase, Risk of Sudden Collapse Increases).

As alluded to in my book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, I do not expect the extreme debt crisis until after 2012.  But according to biblical prophecy, it is coming (Habakkuk 2:3-8).

What is happening right now is that the USA is increasing its debt, looking at how to cut its military spending, and deciding that it will need to rely on Europe/NATO for significant parts of its military strength.  If the USA had not fought two world wars in Europe and Bible prophecy did not essentially warn against this, perhaps this would not be so dangerous.  And that is how the Obama Administration apparently wants to spin all of this.

But the situation is bad and is getting worse.  Short of national repentance (which currently does not appear to be likely), the USA is doomed.  It can hold military meetings with the EU and have committees look at its debt situation, but those carnal moves will not save it.

Those who have not taken Bible prophecy seriously need to open their eyes to realize that events are lining up for the destruction of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.

To see when and who will be ultimately affected, as well as how, please see the following below:

Russian Boss Requires Conversion, no Cohabitation, No Abortions for Employees

…The farming tycoon said he was forced to resort to extreme measures after an unprecedented drought and thousands of wild fires struck Russia this summer.

“Such an extreme situation is punishment for the Russian people’s sins, I need to take extreme measures including looking at the way my employees treat God,” he added.

Sacked for having an abortion: Head of Russian dairy’s threat to defiant employees

Russian tycoon has ordered his employees to quickly embrace the Russian Orthodox Church or lose their jobs.

Vasily Boiko-Veliki stated he has about 6,000 employees, most of whom already are members of the Russian Orthodox Church.

October 14 was selected because it is a Russian Orthodox holiday: “October 14 – Protection of Our Most Holy Lady the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary” (http://www.holytrinityorthodox.com/calendar/index.php?year=2009&today=14&month=6&trp=1) also known as “October 14– The Protection of the Holy Theotokos” (http://holyvirginprotectionchurch.org/events.html).

Certainly “living in sin” (The Ten Commandments Reflect Love, Breaking them is Evil) and having abortions (Abortion, the Bible, and a Woman’s Right to Choose) is wrong.  But forced conversions to keep one’s job reminds me of the passage in Revelation 13 about what the Beast powers will do:

16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:16-17)

It’s hard to “buy” without a job.

There has been a great increase in the popularity of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia.  Economic pressure to embrace it may possibly increase.  The idea that forced conversion will happen in Europe in the future (which happened in the past) does not seem far fetched for the 21st century.  And after various signs and wonders (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) is expected there fairly soon.  Sort of a strange trend to resume, however, in Russia–a formerly officially atheistic land.

Australia’s Gillard Wants End of Monarchy

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Julia Gillard

COGwriter

Australia’s new Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, wants Australia to no longer acknowledge the British monarchy:

Julia Gillard says Queen Elizabeth should be Australia’s last monarch

AUSTRALIA should move to be a republic when the reign of Queen Elizabeth II ends, Prime Minister Julia Gillard says. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/special-reports/julia-gillard-says-queen-elizabeth-should-be-australias-last-monarch/story-fn5ko0pw-1225906269872

The move, while theoretically making some possible sense for the 21st century, does in no real way assist Australia as far as I can tell.  Having the monarchy actually provides some constitutional protections to Australians.  Breaking further away from the UK is probably not what the military leaders of Australia want–but political leaders do not always consider all the ramifications of their plans and programs.
