The flooding in Australia seems to be getting more dangerous:

SYDNEY, Jan 21 (Reuters) – Australia’s devastating floods, which shut mines and damaged rail lines, could cut coal exports by around 15 million tonnes, or 20 percent this quarter, even as collieries show signs of recovery, the government’s commodities forecasting agency said on Friday.

Coal ports in hardest-hit Queensland state escaped severe damage, but are still operating well under capacity as a result of lower coal receivals, Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) said.

ABARES estimates flooding due to monsoon rains that started in November could lower coal export earnings by A$2.0 – $2.5 billion ($1.97-billion-2.47 billion) during the quarter to March 31.

“Coal production at affected mines has been reduced because of a number of factors, including flooded pits and difficulties in removing the water, and a lack of access to mine sites because of flooded roads,” it said.  http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSL3E7CL09V20110121

As an Anglo-descended nation, Australia is subject to the same blessings and cursings that the other Anglo-nations are also subject to.

Jesus, of course, warned about a time with such issues that Australia is facing:

8 … And there will be…troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

We may be at this prophetic point as all the floods and other problems that have happened in the past year could be considered as “troubles”. 

Without national repentance, Australia, and not just the USA, is doomed.

Having been to that island-appearing nation, this seems to be a concept that few in Australia grasp.  And while this particular flood of itself does not mean the end to prosperity for Australia, it should be an indication to Australians that their nation is also vulnerable to various disasters and not immune from them.

The “Peoples’ Republic of China” plans to be number 1:

China’s ambitions are not modest

”If China becomes the world’s No. 1 nation … .” That was the headline in the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, The People’s Daily, on the eve of Chinese President Hu Jintao‘s state visit to Washington. The article went on to boast how “China‘s emergence is increasingly shifting to debate over how the world will treat China, which is the world No. 1 and has overtaken the U.S.“

A story like this does not appear by accident in the official Chinese Communist Party newspaper on the eve of a state visit to the world’s (current) No. 1 power, the United States.

China, however, has long seen itself with the potential to be number one, and has long planned to get there.

China’s neighbors are concerned about China’s military intentions, as are many in the USA and elsewhere.

Despite the recent number 1 comments, much of what China itself appears to be doing is consistent with what the late Deng Xiaoping once expressed,

China must hide brightness and nourish obscurity . . . to bide our time and build up our capabilities (Source: Times Online).

Interestingly, because of a perceived threat from China, the USA increased military cooperation with Europe.  The USA will actually rely on Europe’s Galileo satellite system for some of its defense needs very soon (see USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected).  And while that may appear to make economic and possibly military sense, it does not make biblical sense as the USA will later learn.

China is rising up, and it does have military ambitions. And the Bible strongly indicates that China will be involved with Armageddon and certain other end time matters (cf. Revelation 9:16).

Yet, China will not be number one.  Notice what LCG’s Roderick C. Meredith has written:

Many publications have suggested that the 21st century will be “China’s century.” Even though the Chinese are fiercely moving forward, and their progress in developing their industries is obvious, these publications are dead wrong for two reasons. First, the inspired word of God describes specifically how a coming European Union will be the dominant force in this world—obviously within the next several years. Therefore, brethren, I would like to focus your mind on this matter so you can more intelligently “watch” world events along this line as they unfold before your very eyes. In the coming years, you will perhaps even see a revolt of the peasants in the outlying Chinese cities, who have lagged far behind the standard of living afforded those who have moved to Beijing and Shanghai. Plus, the tremendous pollution of the water, air and foodstuffs may bring about massive disease epidemics and other problems for the Chinese.

In addition, distracting wars and other events may— as God chooses to guide it—greatly undermine the material progress now being made by the Chinese…

So the 21st century will not be the “Chinese century!” (Meredith R.C. An Inspiring and Successful Trip. Living Church News. May-June 2007, p. 21).

China’s pollution, potential for significant social unrest, and how it is discussed in biblical prophecy demonstrate that the 21st century will not belong to China.  China will not become number 1.  But China will be a major player in a variety of events, including military ones.

Even after the Great Tribulation starts, China is prophesied to play a role against the coming European Beast power.  But China will experience a variety of internal problems between now and then.

Watch and see.

UCG’s Victor Kubik reported the following today:

On Friday, January 14^th, I  slipped and fell on a wet floor in a Lusaka, Zambia hotel room breaking two ribs.  I was on my way to the airport for my flight to Johannesburg, South Africa.  At that point I was unaware of the fractures, knowing only that it was  painful…

The AC site now lists that  155 ministers/elders left UCG in the past year.  Some were put out, most resigned.

The largest group to form from the UCG crisis has been COGWA, which amongst others, has former UCG president Clyde Kilough as one of its leaders.  I noticed yesterday that COGWA posted a French translation of one of its updates, which suggests that perhaps some French-speakers are associated with it.

This crisis has been a real struggle for those in or once part of UCG as parties on both sides seem to be offended by the actions of those on the other side.

If you are or were part of UCG and are confused about what to do, please pray, fast, and study the Bible about this.

Ask yourself what are the true priorities that the Bible indicates that the church most faithful to the words of Jesus would do and act appropriately.

Today I went to self-appointed prophet & witness Ronald Weinland’s CGPFK’s website.  On its home page it actually says:

Authored by Ronald Weinland, The Prophesied End-Time and 2008 – God’s Final Witness, will challenge readers as they consider catastrophic end-time events that are now prophesied to begin. Although many will not take seriously what is written here, they will gradually experience disbelief and horror at the events covered in these books as they begin to unfold.

While I used to report about him regularly, Ronald Weinland simply is making little impact these days (and never made the impact that one of God’s two witnesses would be expected to sometimes make). For those who do not know him, Ron Weinland is a former UCG minister who declared himself a prophet, then one of the two witnesses (with his wife as the other of the two witnesses), then an apostle.

FWIW, on the subject of UCG, Ron Weinland stated the following in a sermon this year:

I think of ‘United [COG-AIA]’ today. This is an organization that I was a part of for a time, and most of you who were a part with us were a part at one time – now they have another organization that split off, ‘Church of God – a Worldwide  Association’, and people are hurting. People are hurting! Talk about a 50/50 split!

While I do believe that people in or once in UCG are hurting, those in CGPFK should be hurting even more–yet they do not seem to see the truth about their own group.

Why?

Ronald Weinland originally declared that the Great Tribulation began on April 17, 2008. And, of course, it did not.  And the allegedly terrible affects of the Great Tribulation on the USA in the year 2008 was much of what his 2008 – God’s Final Witness book was supposed to be about.  He changed his start date on the Great Tribulation to December 14, 2008 and has held to that date since.   The fact that the events of the Great Tribulation have still not began has not caused enough of his followers to experience disbelief yet.

One would think that his followers would “experience disbelief and horror” about following one who has been so wrong for so long.  And many who started to follow Ron Weinland apparently did experience disbelief and horror as many have stopped following him.

Yet, there still are many who do follow him.

They should be horrified that Ronald Weinland has repeatedly proven to be a false prophet and one who does not understand the Bible.

Here is some of what one of his books states about the two witnesses:

Notice: “And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth” (Revelation 11:3). The symbolism of “sackcloth” is given because these two will be filled with humility (Weinland, Ronald. 2008 – God’s Final Witness. Copyright © 2006 by the-end.com, inc., Cincinnati. Published October, 2006, pp.21-22).

And if any man will hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies, and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. They have power to shut heaven so that it does not rain in the days of their prophecy, and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. (Revelation 11:5-6)…

The fire proceeding out of their mouth is symbolic of the power to pronounce exacting judgments upon anyone who would do them harm (2008 – God’s Final Witness, p. 89).

While it is remotely possible that the two witnesses will not wear actual physical sackcloth, Revelation 11:13 is not speaking of just humility, but specifically that the clothing of the two witnesses will not be fancy–probably in contrast to the beast, who is likely to be flashy/wealthy in appearance. And in particular, I also suspect that the two witnesses actually will sometimes wear some literal sackcloth, at least at times.  And that they will wear at least some black while they are publicly warning the world. I also believe that they will actually perform miracles, such as fire from them devouring their enemies–I do not believe that the fire mentioned in the Bible is only symbolic.

Yet, Ronald Weinland has no power and has performed none of the miracles that the Bible says that the two witnesses would do.  His followers apparently have disbelief in the literal word of God.

In a sermon earlier this year, he stated:

Things are changing! In seventeen months from now the whole scene changes as far as what the world has been used to, accustomed to, for the way of humanity for 6,000 years and it’s surreal in some respects.

What he is actually alluding to is that he believes that the Great Tribulation will be over in 17 months and that Jesus will return then–but the Great Tribulation has not even started yet.  It is surreal is that people still believe him.

Notice the following statement and prophecy from Ronald Weinland:

I am to announce, through God’s direct revelation, that I am one of those two witnesses. The other witness will be revealed to the world during the time of the great tribulation—within the final three and one-half years of man’s era (Weinland, Ronald. 2008 – God’s Final Witness. Copyright © 2006 by the-end.com, inc., Cincinnati. Published October, 2006, p.16).

Well, the above is another false statement and false prophecy.  Not only is Ronald Weinland not one of the two witnesses, he “revealed” that his wife was the other of his witnesses on April 17-19, 2008.  Yet, since he now insists that the Great Tribulation did not begin until December 14, 2008, his prophecy about the timing of the revealing of the other witness was wrong.  Would God allow one of His two witnesses to make that type of mistake?

Notice also some of Ron Weinland’s 2007 and 2008 statements:

A little after April…a dollar bill won’t be worth anything…We’re going to be brought down the tubes, very quickly, starting in April…What happens when a nuclear weapon goes off in New York and Chicago?…If we come to the point in time where what I’ve said doesn’t come to pass, the reality is that I’m just a false prophet. That’s the bottom line…

The reality is if it doesn’t happen, then you’re just false…I’ll acknowledge my error, my wrong, if I’m wrong…

The primary things…for the world…actually begin after April 2008…The abomination of desolation has already happened…By January 2009, we (the United States) will be down the tubes…(Ronald Weinland Interview on The Edge Radio on December 15, 2007)

If by Pentecost I’m just going to make this real clear to everyone. If by Pentecost it is not powerfully and abundantly clear that there has been a great deal of destruction that will clearly encompass a third of all plant life in the US and at least the clear results of this mingled with blood the death of very much animal life and the beginning of large numbers of human life then I will stop preaching. Just so all the critics and everyone out there will understand. I am true to my word in these things. OK? And for all the critics if by the end of July and for most likely around Pentecost if nothing has clearly caused great destruction and death I will make it very clear that I was a false prophet. I will do exactly what I said I would do on all of those interviews that I have held; to do less, aah well, would be quite insane. (Weinland R. We are we are not we are at our end as far as our country is concerned. I’ve made many comments on different interviews here that we may be able to scrounge together having elections in November but there will not be a new president take office in January…(Ronald Weinland Interview on The Mike McConnell Show Radio on April 7, 2008)

Most of what he proclaimed would happen, did not happen (Barack Obama did take office in January 2009, the US dollar still has value, and the USA was not nuked in 2008). Yet, instead of keeping his word about stopping to preach, Ronald Weinland changed his dates and began to allegorize away what Bible prophecy teaches.

The Bible is clear that one whose prophecies do not come to pass does not speak for God:

21 “And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’– 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him (Deuteronomy 18:21-22).

Ronald Weinland has often spoken presumptuously.

As I have been writing for years, Ronald Weinland is a false prophet and is NOT one of God’s two witnesses.

Sadly, despite his track record as a false prophet, Ronald Weinland still has followers. Hopefully ones that will experience the disbelief that CGPFK’s website refers to sooner than later.

I feel sorry for Ronald Weinland and those who follow him. Hopefully now more of them will wake up. Because the main “Great Tribulation” that his followers are experiencing now is continuing to be led by the imaginations of Ronald Weinland.

The biblical Great Tribulation has not yet began and those who believe otherwise have allowed themselves to be deceived.  They should be horrified.

The uprising in Tunisia and the toppling of President Zine al Abidine ben Ali dominated the annual Arab Economic Summit, which opened Wednesday in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheik amid fears that unrest could ripple across the Middle East.

“It is on everyone’s mind that the Arab soul is broken by poverty, unemployment and general recession,” warned Amr Moussa, chief of the Arab League…

The tone throughout the day was somber as leaders of the Arab League, a 22-nation regional organization based in Cairo, reflected on citizens’ growing dissatisfaction with the region’s deepening social and economic problems…

“There are countries disintegrating, people rising up and rights being lost while the Arab citizen wonders if there is an Arab system that would deal with these events effectively and efficiently,” said Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister Sheik Mohammad al Sabah al Salim al Sabah, who is also the country’s foreign minister…

Arab capitals worry the furor in Tunisia could ignite protests across the Middle East after years of outrage over human rights abuses and widespread frustrations over poor living conditions. The question is will nations that have not fulfilled previous promises follow through now, especially on programs aimed at disaffected, jobless youths…Though some Arab leaders fear the possibility of public unrest, Moussa emphasized that the “priority of economic and social cooperation” between Arab countries “is no longer just about the progress of our people, but a basic demand of Arab national security.” http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-arab-leaders-20110120,0,179434.story

The idea of “Arab national security” is interesting as the Bible indicates that a power from the area predominantly occupied by Arabs will rise up in the end time, with its national security apparently led be the final King of the South.  The fact that the chief of the Arab League indicated that this was a basic demand of Arabs suggests, that he at least, believes that some type of stronger military alliance within the Arab League needs to happen.  And historically, this would involve some type of “strong man” leader rising up.

While it may take a war in the Middle East for this leader to rise up, civil unrest, riots, demonstrations, and protests may also be involved.  Things are changing in the Arab world.  And events are lining up for the King of the South to arise.

The following is something I have been waiting to hear for some time:

Three southern Sudanese states and the region’s capital city have voted for independence by a landslide, according to full provisional results released Wednesday.

Referendum organizers in the southern capital of Juba say 97.5 percent of voters there vote to separate from the north…

An official of northern Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party says he expects the south to become an independent country once the referendum results are official.

Rabi Abdelati Obeid told VOA Wednesday, the NCP is ready to accept and recognize the vote result, even if it is secession.

Obeid also said he believes his party’s commitment towards the referendum should convince U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration to honor its promises of normalizing relations with Khartoum, and taking Sudan off the list of state sponsors of terrorism.  http://www.voanews.com/english/news/Landslide-Swells-for-Southern-Sudan-Independence-114211834.html

It is little wonder that South Sudan voted to secede given the history of violence against it from the Muslim-dominated north.

It may be that the northern portion of Sudan will support the coming King of the South while the southern portion of Sudan will more likely be allied with the final King of the North as its religious views seem to be closer to those that the King of the North is expected to hold.

While Sudan is part of the Arab league, it is not clear (to me at least) if southern Sudan will want to be part of that league or not.   It would seem that most associated with the Arab league will support the final King of the South as they are predominantly Islamic nations.

The Europeans are moving forward in space technology:

European Space Agency predicts European space revolution

The European Space Agency will add two new types of satellite launch vehicle to its rocket fleet in a move it says will revolutionise the European space launch industry with an increase in launch capacity. As a result, its Arianespace arm, which launches half the world’s commercial satellites, is preparing for an exceptionally busy year.

Having three rockets to launch satellites means the European Space Agency (ESA) has greater flexibility in deciding which rocket will be the best for its payloads. This will also widen its operational menu, leading to more launches. Indeed, after all three rockets become operational in the second half of the year, the ESA could be conducting at least one launch a month.

At a press conference last week, ESA head Jean-Jacques Dordain said that 2011 is be the year of the launchers. “By the end of 2011 the ESA will not look like it does today. It is a revolution for Europe,” he said…

Europe’s Galileo system, which is a rival to the United States’ Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite constellation. The first Galileo launch will take place some time between August 15 and September 15, according to the ESA.

Galileo is Europe’s answer to the USA’s Global Positioning System (GPS).   Not only will it rival GPS, the US government has actually agreed to rely on the more technologically-advanced and more comprehensive (once it is fully operational) Galileo for part of it military defense.  This is dangerous and will result in the USA being vulnerable to being taken over militarily.

OHB-System’s Berry Smutny was reported in a cable to have told US diplomats that Europe’s Galileo satellite-navigation project was a “stupid idea”.

The cable, which was published by the Norwegian daily Aftenposten last Thursday, quoted the OHB-System chief as saying, “I think Galileo is a stupid idea that primarily serves French interests”, and, in particular, French military interests.

I would add that it is more than the French military that is interested in Galileo.  In the middle of 2008, the EU funded Galileo for its military applications (EU Approves Galileo For Military Use), and not just for the French.

Europe is moving forward with its space plans and few in the USA seem to realize that when it gets enough power, the USA will lose all of its.

Because of various problems, the USA announced several months back that it would link to Galileo for some of its military needs.

This, as I reported at the time (see USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected), is dangerous.  But I expected it.

Notice that page 85 of my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect states the following:

In 2013, the Europeans are planning on having their own global positioning system (GPS), called Galileo, available for military applications.  This will allow the Europeans to track the world and attack others without relying on the U.S.A.’s GPS.  This will be the first time in the 21^st century that Europeans will be able to have that type of independent military capability.

Furthermore, according to a 2009 report from the U.S. government, the U.S. Air Force may have to start relying on the European Galileo system (at least to a degree) beginning in 2013, as the U.S. GPS capabilities are expected to deteriorate by then (other problems are also appearing in the newer U.S. satellites). Because the Europeans will be able to control Galileo, they will also likely be capable of derailing certain sophisticated U.S. military applications.  This will give the Europeans a unique defensive (as well as offensive) capability that no others on the planet will have.

When I wrote that, the U.S. Air Force denied that there was such a problem.

Further notice that page 147 of my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned of the following:

Because of domestic economic concerns and international pressures, Barack Obama is shifting priorities away from defense spending, while encouraging the Europeans to increase their military might.  This will help lead to the destruction of the United States, when the Europeans are ready and the U.S.A. is not.

Sadly, this is happening right now.

Linking up with Galileo puts the USA at major risk of not being able to launch an effective counter-strike if the EU attacks the USA.  Do Americans not remember that the wars in Kuwait and Iraq were waged first by the USA having vastly superior air/space systems?  And now the USA’s financial mess is leading the USA to rely on other nations for part of this capability.  The world is changing and the USA is losing its military supremacy.  And top powers that lose their military supremacy have historically been taken over by others.  Yes, this satellite matter is that serious.

Today, the President of Russia is meeting with the Palestinians related to a possible peace deal in the Middle East:

of state. The route was charted as a result of an Israeli foreign ministry strike which forced him to cancel the Israel leg of his trip…

“It is crucial for us to continue our work with the Middle East quartet … to revive the talks,” said a Kremlin official, speaking on the eve of Tuesday’s talks in Jericho. So, the Russian President, US President Obama, and the Europeans are working on a Middle East peace deal and plan to meet again next month.  This seems to be consistent with certain biblical prophecies.

Is a Middle East Peace Deal Expected?

The Bible indicates that a peace deal will be made involving a certain leader about 3 1/2 years prior to the start of the Great Tribulation and seven years prior to the return of Jesus Christ.

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate (Daniel 9:26-27).

31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation (Daniel 11:31).

Why is this “covenant” and breaking of it believed to be related to a peace deal?

There are several reasons, but notice some other scriptures that discuss this northern leader:

25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Daniel 8:25, KJV).

23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. 24 He shall enter peaceably, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time. (Daniel 11:23-24, NKJV)

So this leader gives people the impression that there will be “peace”. Term is translated as “peace” in Daniel 8:25 is from the Hebrew term shalvah and essentially means security. In other words, this leader will destroy “many” who are under the impression that they are secure because of some type of security arrangement. Such arrangements are now commonly referred to as peace deals.  And just having a peace deal does not mean that there will not be violations of it as well as wars in areas that the peace deal does not cover.  We in LCG do not teach that the entire world will have peace for 3 1/2 years prior to the start of the Great Tribulation, only that it looks like a Middle East peace deal will be entered into.

Because of the current unrest in Tunisia, Iran, and other parts of the Middle East, it may be that some type of war will break out prior to the peace deal that the Bible.  Often devastation from war is the incentive for disputing factions to accept a peace deal.  And even after peace deals, skirmishes, etc. occur.

Two Reasons Why a Peace Deal Can Precede Sudden Destruction

But does not the Bible teach that sudden destruction comes when a peace deal is made?

Not exactly.  Notice what the Bible says:

3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

Does this not mean that there will not be a peace deal in place for 3 1/2 years prior to the start of the Great Tribulation?

Not necessarily.

Why?

There are at least two reasons.

The first is that there are multiple times in the Bible where it shows that people will declare times of peace.  And not all of them have the sudden destruction element to them.  For example, in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect I mention at least three of them.  And I wrote (see page 246 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect) that it appears that the declaration of peace related to the visions of certain false prophets as well as the peace deal in Daniel 9:26b-27 is the following:

10 “Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace — and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered mortar —  11 say to those who plaster it with untempered mortar, that it will fall. There will be flooding rain, and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall tear it down. 12 Surely, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the mortar with which you plastered it?'”

13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume it.  14 So I will break down the wall you have plastered with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be uncovered; it will fall, and you shall be consumed in the midst of it. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.  (Ezekiel 13:10-14, NKJV)

The second reason is that the sudden destruction that the Apostle Paul warned about in 1 Thessalonians 5:3 seems to be tied to the events of Daniel 11:31 and Daniel 9:27. Notice that Jesus tied a suddenness to the events that Daniel was referring to:

15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.  17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.  18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.  19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!  20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.  21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  (Matthew 24:15-22)

Consider that Daniel was inspired to write that a seven year deal was made, that in the middle of the deal it would be broken, and that this break happens when the abomination is set up.  The elements of something happening in the middle of the seven year deal (which is 3 1/2 years after the deal), combined with Jesus’ warnings in Matthew 24, suggest it is then that the suddenness is a factor.  And when you consider that the King of the North destroys after a “league” (probable peace deal) is made, this supports the idea that there would be a gap between the peace deal of Daniel 9:27/11:23 and the destruction that comes later (Daniel 11:31-39; Matthew 24:15-22).

Also notice what the late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote in 1979 where he tied together Daniel 11:31 and Matthew 24:15 with a sudden disaster:

What is this abomination? This refers to Daniel 11:31 and Matthew 24:15…That will be a time when the UNITED Europe shall appear–the revival of the medieval “Holy Roman Empire.” We shall then be warned, and readied to be taken to a place of refuge and safety from the Great Tribulation. Forty-five days later “the beasts armies” will surround Jerusalem. Thirty days later the Great Tribulation will probably start with a nuclear attack on London and Britain–and possibly the same day or immediately after, on the United States and Canadian cities. The GREAT TRIBULATION, we shall fully then realize, is the time of “Jacob’s Trouble,” spoken of in Jeremiah 30:7. And Jacob’s name was named on Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh (Gen. 48:16). At that time a third of the people in our nations will die, or shall have died, by famine and disease epidemics; another third will dies of the war–our cities being destroyed (Ezek. 6:6), and the remaining third will be carried to the land of our enemies as slaves (Ezek. 5:12). Armstrong HW. The Time We Are In, Now. Pastor General’s Report-Vol 1, No. 15, November 20, 1979, Page 2).

So, Herbert Armstrong had the disaster of the Great Tribulation beginning when the covenant was broken, as that seems to be what is happening in Daniel 11:31.

If we look at all the scriptures (many of which I have listed in this post), we see that there will be a peace deal that will precede the establishment of the abomination of desolation being set up and that once that abomination is set up there will be a new urgency as that is when the Great Tribulation will be ready to commence.

As I have written in both my 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect book as well as my article about the King of the North, the King of the North will pretend to be promoting peace even though he will be a military leader according to Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:24; 29-43; Revelation 13:3-4).  A Middle East peace deal is expected and world leaders are working to get one right now.

Russia continues to have problems with its wheat production:

Russian Wheat Harvest Declined 33% Last Year

Russia’s wheat harvest was 41.5 million metric tons in 2010, the country’s agriculture ministry said, citing the state statistical service, Rosstat. Jesus foretold on a time of famines as part of “the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7-8), and the Book of Revelation (16:8-11) tells of a time of even greater disturbances during “the Day of the Lord”.  These will go beyond what normally have occurred in the past century.  World events are aligning towards the fulfillment of biblical prophecies.

Now there is good news as ultimately, God’s kingdom will come and those issues will be gone (Revelation 7:16).  But a terrible hour of trial is coming first (Revelation 3:10).

As Jesus said:

37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch! (Mark 13:36-37)

Food shortages are something to watch.

Tougher times are coming. And for some parts of the world these tougher time may be here now. People who can prepare, should. Both spiritually and physically.  And this will not only affect people in places like Russia–the Anglo-descended nations will themselves suffer hunger and famine.

There was a report in our newspaper yesterday that the price of cotton was rose by 80% in the past year or so.  I also have seen about a dozen reports on rising food prices in the past few days.  Here are a few of them:

Food inflation has already hit double digits in China, India and Brazil. It’s not hard to see why when you look at how some of the major soft commodities have performed over the last 12 months:

• Corn: + 69%
• Wheat: + 47%
• Soy Beans: + 44%
• Sugar: + 15%
• Coffee: + 65%
• Cotton: + 105%

Of course, food shortages are prophesied. Jesus warned that “famines” would be part of the “beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7-8). In the Book of Revelation, food price inflation is predicted with the ride of the third horseman (Revelation 6:6).  I suspect that the situation in Tunisia and the Middle East could play a role in the rise of the coming King of the South.

Related to the third horseman of Revelation, Evangelist Richard Ames wrote:

The third seal presents a rider on a black horse, representing the scarcity of food and the resulting famine…Cynics say there have always been wars, famines and pestilences. But, as time goes on, we will see the four horsemen of the apocalypse intensify their ride, with increasing global consequences. (Ames R. The Middle East in Prophecy. Living Church of God, 2006, p. 24)

While we are not yet to the final intensified ride of that horseman, part of the “beginning of sorrows” that Jesus referred to could have started. Food shortages will affect Americans more than most here believe.

As Jesus said:
