Galileo to Start to Launch Next Month, the Beginning of Europe Rising?

Galileo is getting closer to becoming a reality:

Europe’s Galileo sat-nav spacecraft ready to fly
BBC – Sept 12, 2011

Europe’s first two Galileo satellite-navigation spacecraft are ready for launch.

The platforms passed a key technical review at the weekend, paving the way for their flight to orbit on a Russian Soyuz rocket on 20 October…The European Commission is investing billions of euros in its own version of the American GPS system…

Galileo should have been operational by now but the project has run into myriad technical, commercial and political obstacles, including early objections from the US, who thought a rival system to GPS might be used to attack its armed forces. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14886082

Galileo is Europe’s answer to the USA’s Global Positioning System (GPS). It is more accurate and is intended to cover more area of the planet (though it would not surprise me that area coverage could be reduced for budgetary concerns).  And yes, I believe that it will be used to attack American (USA and possibly Canadian) forces.

Because of various problems, the USA announced last summer that it would link to Galileo for some of its military needs.

This, as I reported at the time (see USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected), is dangerous. But I expected it.  It is part of Europe rising up (Europa and the Beast of Revelation).

Notice that page 85 of my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect states the following:

In 2013, the Europeans are planning on having their own global positioning system (GPS), called Galileo, available for military applications. This will allow the Europeans to track the world and attack others without relying on the U.S.A.’s GPS. This will be the first time in the 21st century that Europeans will be able to have that type of independent military capability.

Furthermore, according to a 2009 report from the U.S. government, the U.S. Air Force may have to start relying on the European Galileo system (at least to a degree) beginning in 2013, as the U.S. GPS capabilities are expected to deteriorate by then (other problems are also appearing in the newer U.S. satellites). Because the Europeans will be able to control Galileo, they will also likely be capable of derailing certain sophisticated U.S. military applications. This will give the Europeans a unique defensive (as well as offensive) capability that no others on the planet will have.

When I wrote that back in 2009, the U.S. Air Force denied that there was such a problem.

Further notice that page 147 of my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect warned of the following:

Because of domestic economic concerns and international pressures, Barack Obama is shifting priorities away from defense spending, while encouraging the Europeans to increase their military might. This will help lead to the destruction of the United States, when the Europeans are ready and the U.S.A. is not.

Sadly, this is happening right now.  The power in Europe is starting to rise up.

Linking up with Galileo puts the USA at major risk of not being able to launch an effective counter-strike if the EU attacks the USA. Do Americans not remember that the wars in Kuwait and Iraq were waged first by the USA having vastly superior air/space systems? And now the USA’s financial mess is leading the USA to rely on other nations for part of this capability. The world is changing and the USA is losing its military supremacy. And top powers that lose their military supremacy have historically been taken over by others. Yes, this satellite matter is that serious.

If you have not already done so, please get my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect. Compare what it teaches with the Bible.  Compare what it teaches with what is happening in the world.  World events have already aligned with at least 16 predictions that the book documents.

You do not have to be one who will be confused in these trying times.

The book has long also been available from Amazon.com in English, Spanish, and German, and its Kindle version in English. It is also now available from Barnes and Noble .com at the following title links 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, 2012 Y El Surgimiento De La Secta Secreta, and 2012 Und Das Auftreten Der Geheimen Sekte.

The 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect book has more details, more prophecies, and is quite a bit a lot longer (about 384 pages in English) than my online article on 2012. To order a hard copy, simply go to the link 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect.

Contagion: The Fourth Horseman?

Monday, September 12th, 2011

COGwriter

The new movie that did the best at box office in the USA this weekend was titled Contagion.  Here are some comments about it:

Producer’s synopsis: ‘Contagion’ follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.

Here some comments from the Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about related to the 2011 movie Contagion:

The movie tells the story of a novel virus that spreads across the globe rapidly, with scientists and the public following its every move. The idea of a contagion such as this is very real…the plot of a new, deadly virus spreading quickly is quite plausible. In fact, CDC and public health partners identify, on average, one new or emerging infectious disease each year. The movie is a reminder that public health at local, state, national, and global levels must be supported to quickly detect, investigate, and respond to outbreaks and keep Americans safe from health, safety, and security threats arising in this country or anywhere in the world.

The film underscores that we are all connected by the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink… Contagion shows that fear is also contagious. (Frieden T. CDC Director on ‘Contagion’: Deadly Viruses Could Spread Fast. The Atlantic, September 10, 2011. http://www.theatlantic.com/life/archive/2011/09/cdc-director-on-contagion-deadly-viruses-could-spread-fast/244849/ viewed 09/10/11)

Humankind is at risk. And modern travel and other practices are placing humanity at even greater risk, as are genetically-modified foods (cf. Pestilence Issues and Genetically-Modified Corn).

Of course, although the CDC director did not mention scripture, pestilences are prophesied in the Bible. Jesus warned that “pestilences” would be part of the “beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7-8). In the Book of Revelation, death and disease pestilences are predicted with the ride of the fourth horseman:

7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth. (Revelation 6:7-8) 6:8).

LCG Evangelist Richard Ames wrote several years ago:

The fourth seal shows a rider on a pale horse, with the power over one-fourth of the earth to kill major portions of earth’s population. (Ames R. What Is The Day of The Lord? Tomorrow’s World magazine, March-April 2007)

The seven seals reveal prophetic events that lie just ahead of us… In Revelation 6, we read the description of six of those seals. The first four seals are known as the four horsemen of the Apocalypse… In Matthew 24, Jesus…tells us: “…All these are the beginning of sorrows…”… in Matthew, Jesus confirmed the meaning of these seals when He spoke of:

• Deceptive religion (Matthew 24:4)—the first seal, or the first of the four horsemen [of the Apocalypse, or Revelation];
• Wars (Matthew 24:6–7)—the second seal, or the second of the four horsemen;
• Famines (Matthew 24:7)—the third seal, or the third of the four horsemen;
• Pestilences (Matthew 24:7)—the fourth seal, or the fourth of the four horsemen… (Ames, R. The Seven Seals of Revelation. Tomorrow’s World magazine, March-April 2003)

The ride of the pale horseman of death will result in deaths from war, famine, and pestilence.

Tougher times are coming. And for some parts of the world these tougher time may be here now. People who can prepare, should. Both spiritually and physically.

The “contagion” of pestilence will bring much more than fear, the fourth horseman will bring massive amounts of actual deaths.

As Jesus said:

37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch! (Mark 13:37)

In the latest World Ahead Weekly Update, the Living Church of God reported the following:

Australasian Update

Over the last two months, I visited our brethren in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Even though they seem “far away” from everything, it is wonderful to see their loyalty and support of God’s Work and Headquarters in Charlotte.

Recently, we began some advertising on Google Ads at a relatively small expense, which has resulted in around 1,500 to 2,000 new people logging on to our Headquarters’ website each week. These individuals are not only from Australia, but also from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. We hope to add Thailand, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and possibly India to the list in the near future.

One other exciting development is a new door opening to us via television in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and in Victoria, as well as on the Gold Coast in Southern Queensland. The scheduled start date is September 25, just before the Feast of Trumpets. We pray this will be a door that will eventually help open other doors to the commercial television networks in this country. We are looking forward to knowing that a few more humans on the planet will have the opportunity to hear the Truth. But there is still a long way to go yet!— Bruce Tyler

Fourteen Baptisms in India

I left for Kolkata on Tuesday, August 16. The next day, two prospective members came to visit me. We discussed many matters and I counseled them for baptism. They were baptized in the Water Park. On Thursday, I flew from Kolkata to Imphal. I was met by Subash Singh and Prem Kumar. After resting a few hours, five members visited me at the hotel and we discussed my program for the next few days. On Friday, I held a Bible study, speaking on “Counting the Cost” and counseling 12 people for baptism. Most of these people have been studying the Truth for a number of years and have been eagerly waiting to be baptized.

On Sabbath morning I gave the sermon on “Building Faith.” There were 27 members and we had a smooth and orderly service. After the morning service, we viewed a slideshow of my visit to Thailand and Mr. Bruce Tyler’s visit to Malaysia. On Sunday morning, I briefed those who were to be baptized about their commitment and covenant with God. At the public swimming pool, not very far from Sani Mao’s home, I baptized 12 new people into the Body of Christ. It was a very inspiring and unforgettable moment for all of us. I laid hands on them and asked God for the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide, lead and strengthen them. It was a joyful day for all of us in the Church.

We returned to Sani Mao’s home to have tea and I spoke and encouraged the newly baptized members about their commitment and loyalty to the Truth. We had a splendid lunch with all the brethren and had a lengthy question and answer session. There were many questions about Sabbath keeping, Tomorrow’s World, our future spirit body, keeping the law of God, kings and priests and many other questions. Later in the afternoon, we visited the colorful rose garden. This concluded my trip to Manipur in eastern India, which was very inspiring and successful. We now have 25 adult members and 10 children attending the Living Church of God in India. All the members are growing spiritually and continue to learn and understand more of God’s truth. We look forward to further growth in the coming months.—Rajan Moses

Reaching Indochina

Our July trip to Mae Sot, Thailand was profitable as far as the growth of our little group here is concerned. We are now ready to build layers upon the foundation laid and nurtured by the late Mr. Mem Pho Saw, an incredible individual we all loved. The brethren in this area speak Burmese, Thai and Karen. Without the power of God’s Spirit, it seems impossible for us to preach the Gospel in this part of the world. Yet, God always knows what to do with His Church in any part of the world, including Mae Sot, Thailand. We now have Mr. Ryan Foster and his wife, La Wan, working with us. They translate our English articles into the local languages.

Nimrod and his mother Semiramis have successfully confused the world with their pagan teachings and we can see the result of this confusion right before our eyes. Our job in introducing, teaching, and guiding God’s people is a challenge of protecting them from pagan ideas. Just as Paul said in Athens, “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you” (Acts 17:23, KJV). We have been struggling for all these years in giving our group a deeper understanding in how to worship and respect the God of the Bible, and most importantly, to guide them so that they can walk perfectly before God. The Work in Thailand, Myanmar, and other neighboring Indo-Chinese countries is far from being finished, and we do need your prayers so that we can reach more people to witness the Good News about the Kingdom of God. God the Father will surely call more peop le in this part of the world as the end time is drawing nearer (John 6:44). May you always remember our Work and God’s people in this part of the world in your daily prayers.—Arius Nusantara

TW: Sheikh Adel Shehato’s Hatred Against ‘Christians’

In the latest issue of its TW News & Prophecy, the Living Church of God had the following:

Sheikh Adel Shehato was imprisoned in Egypt in 1991 and released following the Egyptian uprising earlier this year. He is a senior official in the Egyptian Jihad and his fame and influence are growing in Egypt. In a recent interview, he shared his extremist views about Christianity. When asked whether he was against blowing up churches, the sheikh responded, “Yes and no. The Christian is free to worship his God in his church, but if the Christians make problems for the Muslims, I will exterminate them. I am guided by the Shariah, and it stipulates that they must pay the jizya tax [tax on certain non-Muslims ] while in a state of humiliation.”When the interviewer expressed fear at his views, the sheikh responded, “I will not act [in ways] that contradict my faith just in order to please the people. … We say to the Christians, convert to Islam or pay the jizya, otherwise we will fight you. The Shariah is not based on logic but on divine law. That is why we oppose universal, manmade constitutions” (www.MEMRI.org, August 29, 2011).

There has been a visible rise in Islamic extremism across the Middle East and North Africa in recent years. The Bible clearly indicates that at the end of the age, a religio-political King of the South will “attack” the European King of the North. This King of the North will prevail and ultimately overthrow many countries, including Egypt (Daniel 11:40-43). We appear to be watching events that God will use to fulfill His prophecies.

I have reported about this Sheikh before (see Sheik Shehato: ‘We Will Launch a Campaign of Islamic Conquest’).

The Bible is about love, not hate.  While the Sheikh probably does not understand real Christianity and may not have ever encountered any truly faithful Christians, his words and apparent intentions are still in error.

Sadly, people of many faiths do not understand the Bible or the meaning of life.

COGWA Statistics: Increased Attendance and Congregations

COGWA (Church of God, a Worldwide Association) was formed out of a split from the United Church of God (UCG) in 2010 (the overwhelming majority of the Latin American ministers and slightly more than 1/2 of the paid US ministry in UCG went with COGWA).  I just got an update from one of its members that I have long had communications with (for over a decade while he was in UCG).  Anyway, apparently I had not listed COGWA’s Asia/Pacific congregations when I looked at them recently.

Thus, at this time, COGWA has listed 237 congregations with 111 in the USA, 3 in Canada, 50 in Latin America, 4 in Europe, 13 in the Caribbean, 28 in Africa, and 28 in Asia/Pacific.  On March 6, 2011, COGWA’s website listed 232 congregations, with 109 in the USA and 123 outside the USA.

The email I was just sent included a 5/27/11 document from COGWA that stated that COGWA had 9,037 attendees at the first Day of Unleavened Bread (this is up from 8,000 that an earlier email from him had).  If this holds, this suggests that COGWA is probably the second largest COG in terms of attendees.  I wish to thank the COGWA member for his assistance on its statistics.

TW: 9/11 Plus Ten: What Does it Mean?

United Airlines’ Flight 175 Hitting South Tower, 9/11/2001

COGwriter

LCG’s Dexter Wakefield has the following in the current issue of Tomorrow’s World magazine:

Ten years after hijacked airliners were crashed into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon, how has our world changed? What are the current dangers that may lead to the collapse of Western society?

On September 11, 2001, a stunned world watched as tragedy struck the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the giant symbol of Anglo-American domination of world finance. Tens of millions of people were watching live on television when a hijacked commercial airliner struck the WTC. Minutes before, another plane had smashed into the first tower. Soon, in Washington, DC, a third hijacked jet would strike the Pentagon, the symbol of United States military strength. A fourth hijacked jet failed to reach its target, crashing in a Pennsylvania field. Together, the attacks killed nearly 3,000 people and horrified millions of shocked onlookers around the world.

But the horror was not universal. In some cities around the world, people rejoiced and even danced in the streets. U.S. President George W. Bush quickly declared war on al Qaeda, the shadowy organization of radical Islamists who took credit for the attack. The first U.S. troops were deployed to Afghanistan in October 2001, and to Iraq in March 2003, but it would be nearly a full decade before Bush’s successor, President Barack H. Obama, would announce on May 2, 2011 that U.S. Navy Seals had killed al Qaeda head Osama bin Laden in a firefight near Karachi, Pakistan.

September 11, 2011 marks a full decade since the “9-11” attack. How has the U.S. changed since that watershed event? How has the Muslim world changed? And, looking at these events through the eyes of Scripture, what can we expect in the future?

The First Attack

The WTC had been a jihadist target long before the “9-11” attack. On February 26, 1993, a radical group with connections to al Qaeda detonated a well-constructed homemade bomb in the WTC parking garage. The bomb—about 1,500 pounds of urea nitrate explosive in a rented van—was parked next to a structural element in the garage. The plan was to make one tower collapse into the other, thus destroying both. How close did the terrorists come to success? The WTC’s architect later testified that if the van had been parked closer to the building’s poured concrete foundation, the tower would have fallen (“An Icon Destroyed,” Newsweek, September 11, 2001).

Seven people, including an unborn child, died in the February 1993 attack, and another thousand were injured, mostly from the subsequent evacuation of the building. Victims sued the New York and New Jersey Port Authority, owner of the buildings. The court found the Port Authority 68 percent responsible, and the terrorists only 32 percent responsible. The country went back to business as usual. The jihadists went back to planning their next attack.

War on Terror

Nine days after the 9-11 attack, President Bush spoke to a joint session of the U.S. Congress and declared what he called a “War on Terror.” In addition to troops sent abroad, this war led to a range of new security measures unprecedented in U.S. history. In October 2001, Congress passed stringent new legislation, dubbed the “Patriot Act,” giving the government more power than ever to conduct surveillance on law-abiding U.S. citizens as well as suspected criminals. A federal Department of Homeland Security was established in November 2002.

Some of the most visible changes have been at airports, where passengers face strict regulations about the transport of liquids and sharp objects. Shoes, coats and computers are inspected closely, and people who do not consent to “full body scans” face “pat-downs” that many consider an assault on both privacy and dignity. Away from airports, security in other public places has also increased, along with a proliferation of metal-detecting devices at building entrances.

Domestic terrorism has become a major concern, as U.S. officials encounter “home-grown” Islamists influenced via the Internet by radical Muslim clerics. One such case was the November 5, 2009 shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, where Major Nidal Hasan—a U.S. army psychiatrist who had expressed upset about his imminent deployment to Afghanistan—was arrested and charged with killing 13 people and wounding 29 others. Witnesses report that Hasan entered a building on the Army base, shouting “Allahu Akbar” (“God Is Great”) while firing on dozens of people before police subdued him. Witnesses report that Hasan was a devout student of Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim cleric who is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Yemen.

Much debate has gone on between those who favor giving the U.S. government increased powers of surveillance and prosecution of terrorism and those who reject such increases as a betrayal of the nation’s ideals of freedom and liberty. Some have suggested that simply by prodding the U.S. to clamp down on its citizens’ liberties, the terrorists have “won” their battle against Western values even without firing another shot or exploding another bomb. Others point out that, while the U.S. has implemented “politically correct” security procedures that seem to give equal scrutiny to a 25-year-old single male from Egypt and a 95-year-old great-grandmother from Canada, other nations have implemented overt “profiling” of suspected terrorists based on ethnic, national and demographic characteristics. Critics say that while the U.S. security apparatus can only screen for bombs, the Israelis (for example) can also screen for terrorists.

Despite the ongoing debate about security “at home,” Americans can point to what seems to be relative success in anti-terrorism efforts. Since the 9-11 attacks, the bulk of successful terrorist activity has occurred outside North America, while thousands have died in jihadist attacks in Muslim countries. Even so, their presence has been felt in the West. Radical Muslims were blamed for March 11, 2004 train bombings in Madrid, Spain, which killed 191 people and wounded about 1,800. Suicide bombers in London killed 52 people and wounded about 700 on July 7, 2005 when they carried out coordinated attacks on four public transportation targets.

In the U.S., well-publicized failures such as the “Shoe Bomber” and the “Underwear Bomber” have left many wondering whether there are many other attacks being stopped before they occur, or whether the new generation of terrorists is simply inept. Aside from occasional scares by “Beltway Snipers” or other small-scale incidents, it would seem that anti-terrorist efforts have enjoyed significant success in curtailing major threats across the U.S. and Europe. Overall, jihadists have been far more successful attacking Western-allied Muslim nations than Western nations.

An “Arab Spring”?

Autocratic governments have traditionally been the norm in the Middle East. The tribal social structure of Arab society has lent itself well to such governance. Yet, this has not prevented simmering unrest from building as citizens react against the corruption, oppression, poverty and uneven wealth distribution they see in their nations.

Tunisians overthrew their government in December 2010, and the “Tunisian wind” has since blown through Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Syria and Libya. Western governments are taking notice as protesters call for democracy in their nations; some are calling the unrest an “Arab Spring” that they hope will lead to the formation of Western-style liberal democracies across the Middle East.

Characteristic of this hopeful view has been U.S. President Barack Obama. In a statement to the press on May 19, he said: “We face an historic opportunity… There must be no doubt that the United States of America welcomes change that advances self-determination and opportunity… After decades of accepting the world as it is in the region, we have a chance to pursue the world as it should be.… So in the months ahead, America must use all our influence to encourage reform in the region.… Let me be specific. First, it will be the policy of the United States to promote reform across the region, and to support transitions to democracy.”

But is the President realistic in his view? Many across the Middle East have a very different vision. In the past, when Muslims have had the opportunity to vote, they have often voted for Islamist, anti-Israel candidates. When Israel gave the Palestinians control of the Gaza Strip, everyone expected them to vote for the Palestinian Authority and to attempt to seek peace with Israel. In fact, they supported Hamas—an Islamist political party that Western democracies label as a terrorist organization.

Opinion polls show that significant majorities in many Arab countries favor the establishment of Sharia law, derived from the Qur’an and centuries of Muslim jurisprudence. Several nations, such as Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen already have Sharia law in some form. Others, such as Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Pakistan, Syria, Qatar and United Arab Emirates, mix Sharia with other systems. To the great surprise of many Western analysts, University of Maryland researchers polled Arab nations and found that substantial majorities in Pakistan, Egypt and Morocco favored the establishment of the Caliphate—which would mean autocratic Islamist rule!

Far from voting to establish liberal, Western-style democracies, Middle Eastern countries—if they are given the chance to vote—could very well choose Islamist governments like those of Gaza or Iran. Rather than establish a liberal democracy, the current democratic movements in Middle Eastern Islam could very well bring on a charismatic leader to establish a Caliphate and rule autocratically.

What Western politicians hope will be the “Arab Spring” may turn out to be the “Islamic Winter.”

What Next?

As the Western nations tire of protracted wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and prepare to withdraw their troops, a “power vacuum” is being created. Contending Muslim forces are jockeying for position to fill the void. Iran, with its majority of non-Arab Shiite Muslims, is sensing the opportunity to assert much more influence in the region, which is alarming many Arab Sunni Muslims.

Recent rebellions against autocratic Muslim leaders in North Africa have led some hopeful Western analysts to foresee an “Arab spring” that will bring greater democracy to the region. Yet a closer analysis reveals that Islamist winds are blowing across the Middle East with strength far greater than the “winds of democracy.” Secular Western thinkers often fail to recognize that the winds of democracy and Islam may blow together for a time, as opportunistic Islamists use democracy as a tool to topple the secular opposition and institute Sharia law.

What does Scripture tell us about the times ahead? The prophet Daniel long ago described the end-time events we are beginning to witness today: “And at the time of the end shall the king of the south contend with him; and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass through. He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries; and the land of Egypt shall not escape. But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him; and he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many. And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him” (Daniel 11:40–45, ASV).

This “king of the South” will be a great leader, likely the head of a Muslim coalition, who will attack or challenge a great northern power in Europe. Europeans are well aware of the threat of Islam. For more than a thousand years, Muslim armies occupied large swaths of European territory. In western Europe, Spain, southern France, southern Italy and Sicily were occupied, and large parts of eastern Europe were also under the Caliphate’s control.

Today’s Islamists still consider these once-conquered territories as rightfully theirs. Hassan al-Banna, the founder of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, wrote, “Andalusia [the Muslim name for Spain], Sicily, the Balkans, south Italy, and the Roman sea islands were all Islamic lands that have to be restored to the homeland of Islam…it is our right to restore the Islamic Empire its glory” (“Understanding the Muslim Brotherhood,” Wall Street Journal, February 15, 2011, p. A13).

Changes Are Coming in Europe

Secularism is the status quo in Europe. Laicism—the practice of barring religious expression from public life—is public policy in France. Yet, many leaders in the EU are calling for an official return to Europe’s “Christian” roots as a foundation for European unity. The EU needs greater European unity—in the form of federal control of member nations’ fiscal policies—for economic union to prosper and the euro to survive and be strong.

One powerful spur toward unity in Europe is the threat of resurgent Islam. Already, several EU nations are facing ongoing conflicts between their Muslim populations (largely fueled by immigration) and historic cultural norms. Bible prophecy indicates that at the end of this age, a “king of the South” will form a powerful force to threaten Europe. The prospect of conflict with a Muslim-dominated “king of the South” would not only drive Europe’s nations closer together; it would intensify ethnic and cultural tensions between Europe’s growing Muslim minority and its “Christian” majority. It may be the union of Muslims outside Europe that succeeds in producing the continental unity that Europeans have not been able to accomplish by themselves.

A Vulnerable United States

Ten years after the “9-11” attacks, America remains vulnerable. However, its greatest vulnerability is not its heavily policed airports, but rather its financial strength. Thanks to decades of deficit spending on wars and social programs, U.S. sovereign debt is exploding, and is now almost equal to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product. All credible analysts agree that the present course is unsustainable. Even the security of U.S. Treasury bills, notes and bonds is coming into doubt, and the economic strength that has long been the engine of U.S. power is coming into question.

The U.S. has always taken great pride in its financial strength, and in the power that strength projects. Now, however, the nation’s economic dominance depends more and more on its ability to borrow massive sums from creditors abroad, a practice it cannot sustain economically or politically. At the same time, the U.S. continues to move further and further away from the Bible-based ethic that once provided a powerful foundation of the nation’s moral sense of right and wrong. As a result, we are seeing a widespread moral decline at the same time we are seeing the start of a broad decline in the wealth and power of the nation.

Few observers recognize that there is a connection between the nation’s power and its obedience to God. God says that it is He who gives people the power to get wealth. “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments… when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God… then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy. 8:11–18).

God also said of a disobedient nation, “… I will break the pride of your power” (Leviticus 26:19).

What happens when God withdraws His blessing from a country? Collapse can occur suddenly, whether it is a company or a country. Consider Lehman Brothers, the big Wall Street firm that held a AAA credit rating until just before its bankruptcy. And consider the sudden jolt to the U.S. economy in September 2008 when the “sub-prime mortgage crisis” came to a head. Now it is the towering U.S. debt load that is about to collapse. And with the loss of its unblemished AAA status, how much lower will the U.S. credit rating fall?

When a stick is bent, it flexes at first. Then, if increasing pressure is applied, it will break suddenly. The economies of the U.S. and Britain are still standing—like the WTC towers shortly after the airplanes hit—but they are weakening as they bend. Serious trouble is ahead. If the U.S. and Britain continue to weaken their credit standing, their economies could collapse like the WTC towers, leaving untold damage in their wake.

The events of “9-11” set off a chain of events that are speeding the fulfillment of end-time prophetic events, setting the stage for a final time of great tribulation before the return of Jesus Christ. Many will be taken by surprise, but you as a Tomorrow’s World reader have had advance warning. Will you be prepared when that time comes?

What is going to happen to the USA relatively soon will be so much worse than 9/11/2001 ever was.

Notice also something else from the Bible:

14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments,
15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant,
16 I also will do this to you
:
I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart.
And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies.
Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you.  (Leviticus 26:14-17)

The USA and its Anglo-allies do not want to obey God’s commandments.  They are more and more being despised at high levels by government officials.  The Israelite-descended Anglo-nations will be those that experience the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7), which is the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21) and final time of the Gentiles that Jesus spoke of (Luke 21:20-24; cf. Revelation 11:2).

Do not wait until it is too late to respond spiritually, so that you may be protected physically.

People in other lands need to repent and do what is right as well.

TW: Food Prices May Cause Riots Within a Year

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

COGwriter

In the latest TW News & Prophecy, the Living Church of God had the following:

Food prices approaching a violent tipping point?

In an article in the UK’s Guardian, author Damian Carrington reviewed recently published research by three Cornell University faculty members suggesting that when food prices reach a specific level, riots and civil unrest are more likely to occur. The researchers estimate that food prices will reach a crucial “tipping point” and be permanently above this threshold within one to two years–a sobering reality that will impact the world (www.guardian.co.uk, August 25, 2011).

Bible prophecies warn of widespread hunger and starvation in the end times. Jesus warned that “famine” and fighting within nations would be important signs that would signify the “beginning of sorrows” at the end of the age (Matthew 24:7-8). The Apostle John wrote that hyperinflation due to a scarcity of resources will eventually result in very small quantities of wheat and barley being sold for an entire day’s wages (Revelation 6:5-6). Jeremiah also prophesied that conditions would get so bad that cannibalism will once again be practiced (Jeremiah 19:9)!

Modern research and current events point in the same direction as Bible prophecies!

I reported on this a little earlier, so for more scriptures and more detailed information on this, please check out Are We Approaching Violent Tipping Point for Food Prices?

To a degree, the Arab Spring was partially caused by increases in food prices (as well as various governmental actions).  The sorrows and troubles are just beginning and will get much worse. Hopefully, people will wake up.

United Airlines’ Flight 175 Hitting South Tower, 9/11/2001

COGwriter

LCG’s commentary today has the following:

.
By William Bowmer | Saturday, September 10, 2011
.
Before the world-changing events of 9/11/2001, Americans’ exposure to terrorism was mostly secondhand–perhaps watching video images of a bombed-out Oklahoma City building in April 1995, or reading newspaper stories of a botched World Trade Center bombing in February 1993. Millions, however, on that momentous Tuesday morning of September 11, were watching live television coverage of one burning skyscraper, when another jet suddenly appeared–and then crashed into the second WTC tower!
.

In one gut-wrenching moment on live television, viewers understood that the two impacts were not a coincidence—and they saw just how vulnerable their nation had become to terrorist attacks. Four commercial jet aircraft had been hijacked and sent on suicide missions, laying waste to prominent symbols of wealth and power in the United States. Many Americans for the first time saw firsthand the impact of God’s warning to a disobedient nation, “I will even appoint terror over you… I will break the pride of your power” (Leviticus 26:16, 19).

Some, in hearing about 9/11, found solace in reports of heroic acts by United Airlines Flight 93 passenger Todd Beamer, New York Fire Department chaplain Mychal Judge, and many others whose bravery went almost unnoticed. Others, however, typifying post-Watergate distrust of the “official story,” have continued to offer mutually conflicting conspiracy theories in which villains of all sorts abound.

And what of the “War on Terror” declared by U.S. President George W. Bush? Earlier this year, U.S. Navy SEALs in Afghanistan proudly proclaimed the death of Osama bin Laden, yet the West after a decade seems unable to win a decisive war against ragtag crews of Muslim extremists. Meanwhile, at home, millions of Americans’ main experience of the war is literally at the hands of the Transportation Safety Administration, a powerful new government agency that treats every air traveler as a terrorist suspect, subjected to scanning and poking and prodding in what some derisively call “security theater.”

As we go about our daily business, we might at first not recognize just how much the world around us has changed since September 11, 2001. But consider the analogy of the frog and the pot of boiling water. If you drop a frog into the pot, it will jump right out, unable to bear the heat. But if you put the frog in a pot of lukewarm water, you can raise the temperature slowly—and soon you will boil the frog to death!

In September 2001, the U.S. unemployment rate had risen to 5.4 percent. Ten years later, that rate stands at 9.1 percent, with unofficial figures (including “discouraged workers” and the underemployed) at nearly double that number.

In September 2001, “same-sex marriage” was a fringe issue, firmly opposed by the vast majority of Americans. Ten years later, six U.S. states allow same-sex marriages to be performed, while another dozen states allow “civil unions” granting essentially all the privileges of marriage to same-sex couples.

In September 2001, U.S. public debt was just over $5.7 trillion. In September 2011 it stands just over $14.7 trillion.

Since September 2001, more than 14.5 million unborn babies have been aborted in the United States.

One could go on and on pointing out so many changes over the last decade—often occurring gradually, in small-but-steady increments, day by day. So, how is the temperature in our pot? At this somber anniversary, Americans might do well to look at the world around them, then look back a decade and ask: “Ten years ago, is this what you thought your nation would become?”

At Tomorrow’s World, we want to help our viewers understand the times in which we live, as well as the biblically prophesied future. Since September 2001, across the U.S. and Canada, the Tomorrow’s World telecast has been viewed in more than 19.3 million households, which have made more than 1.61 million requests for one or more pieces of our free literature. Read our article “Nine-Eleven Plus Ten” for information about some of the troubles now facing the United States. And take heart that your Bible foretells the soon-coming millennial rule of Jesus Christ on planet Earth, over a society governed by God’s law of love, as explained in our inspiring free booklet, The World Ahead: What Will It Be Like?

The sins and debt of the USA will catch up with it.  The sins of the other Anglo-nations such as Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand will affect them as well.

What is going to happen to the USA relatively soon will be so much worse than 9/11/2001 ever was.  Do not wait until it is too late to respond spiritually, so that you may be protected physically.

Now, the USA is concerned about another possible terrorist incident this weekend:

Fox News – ‎10 September 2011

The two cities that were at the heart of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks are on high alert this weekend after the government received a “credible” tip that Al Qaeda plans to launch an attack on Washington or New York as the nation marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

We will see if something of significance occurs.  But either way, the terrorists have again gotten people terrified–and this seems to have been prophesied:

14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments,
15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant,
16 I also will do this to you:
I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart.
And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies.
Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you.  (Leviticus 26:14-17)

There is another serious threat that the USA is facing:

WASHINGTON – As the nation observes the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001, experts are warning that the U.S. effectively is defenseless against an electro-magnetic pulse attack or a far less expensive radio frequency attack on the nation’s critical military and civilian electric and electronic infrastructure, according to Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

Two experts – one a communications systems engineer involved in classified programs who works on EMP vulnerabilities and the other a U.S. Defense Department analyst knowledgeable of their impact – said that the nation’s sensitive telecommunications and the electronic systems embedded in its financial and banking institutions can be “fried” by a “turn of the switch.”

The result could be a chaos that could allow terrorists to attack virtually at will.  Read more: U.S. essentially defenseless from stunning new weapon http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=343365#ixzz1XYfyXnU3

I have written about versions of the above threat before.  The USA is at massive risk for coming apart if it gets an electro-magnetic pulse attack or even something similar from solar flares.  Commerce, government, and life in general in the USA is getting more and more dependent on computers and other systems that can be affected by various electro-magnetic pulses.  Some may come from Islamic terrorists, but some (or some variant) may come from technology that will be spun off from Europe’s Large Hadron Collider.

Without national repentance, the USA is doomed.  Since the USA seems to be going more into sin nationally, that seems unlikely.  Yet, personal repentance is still possible.  Do you see the winds of change in the USA and elsewhere?

If so, what do you plan to do about it?

TW: More Calls for a United Europe

Europa Woman Riding the Beast Coin

COGwriter

In today’s TW News & Prophecy, the Living Church of God reported:

Financial crisis brings calls for United Europe!

Last week in Berlin, former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder called for the creation of a “United States of Europe… to avoid future economic crises,” declaring “we will have to give up national sovereignty” to a common government (Reuters.com, September 4, 2011). This conviction is being voiced around the world.

In Paris, former head of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet stated the European project was “incomplete” and the EU required a “federal government with a federal finance minister” (euobserver.com, September 6, 2011). In Australia, the head of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, observed that dealing with the European debt crisis will demand “more integration at least for the euro area” (euobserver.com, September 7, 2011). These statements echo what former German defense minister Joschka Fischer told the European Parliament, that a “United States of Europe is the only way to preserve European influence in the world” and that “future integration steps need a political union” (euobserver.com, January12, 2011).

In New York, an official with Citigroup, the largest financial services firm in the world, said that “the eurozone is likely to fall apart unless the European Union’s member states fuse both on the fiscal and political level” (euobserver.com, April 21, 2010). A former Belgian prime minister has written that a federal EU is “the only option” and might consist of a core of the 12 eurozone states using the prestigious title “United States of Europe” surrounded by other more loosely integrated states (euobesrver.com, December 1, 2005). Scholars have noted that past crises have been the impetus for spurts of European integration; the current debt crisis offers another opportunity for further integration.

In light of these developments, it should be remembered that Bible prophecies have long foretold that a short-lived (3½ years) “beast” power of 10 kings (leaders or nations) would emerge in Europe just before the return of Jesus Christ (Daniel 2 and 7; Revelation 17)–and that its sudden appearance would surprise the world (Revelation 13:3). We need to watch and not be surprised!

(I reported on some of this earlier and go more into the idea of a “United States of Europe”, see Telegraph: Former German Chancellor Demands ‘United States of Europe’, Be Afraid.)

Notice something from the news today that also confirms some of this:

Shilling: Europe to Blame for Any US Recession

‎Moneynews – Forrest Jones 9 September 2011To end the crisis, the eurozone can kick out the problem countries, which would damage banking sectors in the countries that remain, or bring all countries even closer together under tighter fiscal and monetary control from a more central authority, which would likely give France and Germany a greater say in other countries’ affairs.

So, some in the USA are expected to blame Europe for any recession, and that the fiscal crisis indicates that the Europeans need to restructure into a closer union.  Perhaps I should mention that the Europeans tend to blame the USA for the current/previous recession–so they would likely blame the USA for being the real cause for another one.

The Bible itself shows that Europe must be restructured (Revelation 17:12-13)–but that particular restructure that Revelation refers to is probably not going to happen for several years. However, to get to that point, there likely will be a variety of changes in what the EU is and how it is supposed to work. While Europe will always have fragility issues per Daniel 2:42-43, it will also be much more unified than it is today–as it would seem to have to be to fulfill certain aspects of Bible prophecy.  And more and more secular sources seem to expect Europe to become more unified.

Some articles of possibly related interest may include:

Catholic Priest Celibacy Rebellion in Austria

Pope Benedict XVI Sitting & Wearing White

Pope Benedictus XVI

COGwriter

A reader sent me the following:

Dissident Austrian priests defying their Roman Catholic Church with calls for married clergy, women priests and other reforms enjoy wide public support, according to a new poll on a dispute that could lead to their dismissal.

Three-quarters of people polled in the traditionally Catholic country backed the priests’ “Call to Disobedience,” a manifesto…

The revolt, openly supported by 329 priests, threatens a split in the Austrian Church weeks before Pope Benedict’s Sept 22 to 25 visit to neighbouring Germany. Benedict, 84, grew up in Bavarian villages close to the Austrian border.  http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Austrian+priests+tempt+showdown+with+Pope/5351678/story.html

The Austria dissidents have early church history, as well as scripture, on their side regarding the idea of a married clergy.  Nearly all the early apostles were married, and actually, the Bible is clear that elders/presbyters should be married.

Actually, it appears that bishops and elders were supposed to have a wife and children to demonstrate they could handle a church as Paul wrote (Roman Catholic approved Rheims New Testament-RNT- is quoted below):

1.FAITHFUL saying. If a man desire a Bishops office, he desireth a good work.
2. It behoveth therefore a Bishop to be irreprehensible, the husband of one wife,
sober, wise, comely, chaste, a man of hospitality, a teacher,
3. Not given to wine, no fighter, but modest, no quarreler, not covetous,
4. Well ruling his own house, chaving his children subject with all charity.
5. But if a man know not to rule his own house: how shall he have care of the Church of
God? (1 Timothy 3:1-5).

5. For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest reform the things that are
wanting, and shouldst ordain priests by cities, as I also appointed thee:
6. If any be without crime, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not in the
accusations of riot, or not obedient.
7. For a Bishop must be without crime, as the steward of God: not proud, not angry, nor
given to wine, no striker, nor covetous of filthy lucre (Titus 1:5-7).

Notice that the above roles are for men as scripture never lists such roles for women.  Also, note that the term translated as priest in verse 4, presbyter, simply means elder. Also notice that the Bishop is also allowed to be married. In Eastern Orthodox circles, while their priests are allowed to be married, their bishops are not.  All “clergy” in the Living Church of God is allowed to be married, consistent with what the Apostle Paul was inspired to write above.

Even The Catholic Encyclopedia acknowledges that from the beginning, celibacy was not a requirement for church leaders:

Turning now to the historical development of the present law of celibacy, we must necessarily begin with St. Paul’s direction (1 Timothy 3:2, 12, and Titus 1:6) that a bishop or a deacon should be “the husband of one wife”. These passages seem fatal to any contention that celibacy was made obligatory upon the clergy from the beginning (Thurston H. Transcribed by Christine J. Murray. Celibacy of the Clergy. The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume III. Copyright © 1908 by Robert Appleton Company. Online Edition Copyright © 2003 by K. Knight. Nihil Obstat, November 1, 1908. Remy Lafort, S.T.D., Censor. Imprimatur. +John Cardinal Farley, Archbishop of New York).

Celibacy became an ideal for the clergy in the East gradually, as it did in the West. In the fourth century we still find St. Gregory Nazianzen’s father, who was Bishop of Nanzianzos, living with his wife, without scandal. But very soon after that the present Eastern rule obtained. It is less strict than in the West. No one can marry after he has been ordained priest (Paphnutius at the first Council of Nicaea maintains this; the first Canon of the Synod of Neocaesarea in 314 or 325, and Can. Apost., xxvi. The Synod of Elvira about 300 had decreed absolute celibacy for all clerks in the West, Can. xxxiii, ib., pp. 238-239); priests already married may keep their wives (the same law applied to deacons and subdeacons: Can. vi of the Synod in Trullo, 692), but bishops must be celibate. As nearly all secular priests were married this meant that, as a general rule, bishops were chosen from the monasteries, and so these became, as they still are, the road through advancement may be attained (Fortesque A. Transcribed by Marie Jutras. Eastern Monasticism. The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume X. Copyright © 1911 by Robert Appleton Company. Online Edition Copyright © 2003 by K. Knight. Nihil Obstat, October 1, 1911. Remy Lafort, S.T.D., Censor. Imprimatur. +John Cardinal Farley, Archbishop of New York).

Here is a statement from that Synod of Elvira (about 305 A.D.) that is a little different than the above indicates:

We decree that all bishops, priests, and deacons, and all clerics engaged in ministry are forbidden entirely to live with their wives and to beget children: whoever shall do so shall be deposed from clerical dignity. (Bacchiocchi S. THE CATHOLIC PRIESTS CHILD SEX-ABUSE SCANDAL. Endtime Issues No. 82, 4 April 2002)

Thus the celibacy requirement for clergy did not occur until the fourth century. It, however, contradicts the biblical teaching on this matter.

So, both the Bible and early church history support the view of the Austrian priests regarding celibacy.  And the fact that the Church of Rome has allowed the Anglican priests who come back into its fellowship to remain married shows that Rome also understands that clerical celibacy is not a scriptural requirement.

On the other hand, the idea of ordaining women to become elders does not have any scriptural support.  To the contrary, while the Bible lists a lot of roles for women (some early women were prophetesses and had other important roles, see Women and the New Testament Church), being an elder/presbyter that speaks in church services is specifically prohibited:

34 Let women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted them to speak, but to be subject, as also the law saith.  35 But if they would learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.  (1 Corinthians 14:34-35, RNT)

11 Let the woman learn in silence, with all subjection.  12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to use authority over the man: but to be in silence.  (1 Timothy 2:11-12, RNT)

Since the priests are Catholic, I intentionally quoted an approved Catholic translation of Paul’s writings.  Thus, the Austrian priests need to reconsider their unscriptural position on this matter.
