Frustrations with Occupy Canada, But is the ‘Only Solution, World Revolution’?

Mayors in Canada are getting frustrated by the Occupy movement:

Mayors across Canada frustrated with Occupy protests

‎CTV.ca – 10 November 2011
With the “Occupy” protests now dragging into their fourth week, mayors across Canada are growing fed up and beginning to ask protests to leave public areas.

Few tears being shed for crumbling Occupy movement‎ Globe and Mail

With legitimate civil discourse having evaporated some time ago, the Occupy movement in Canada would seem to be on its last tent pegs. The camps are coming down, and with them will fall the outward symbol of Occupy’s ultimately doomed-to-fail protest.

Last week, I saw my first Occupy protesters in real life.  While I did not go to where they have tents, I watched a couple of dozen people walk up and down the area of downtown San Luis Obispo that is closed to automobile traffic for the weekly Farmer’s Market we have here.  The protesters that I saw mainly were of college age.  They were not violent.
Of course, elsewhere in California, there were problems with the Occupy movement:
‎Lincoln Journal Star – 10 November 2011
Student activists attempted to set up an “Occupy Cal” camp on campus despite official warnings that such encampments are not allowed.

Today, I found the following at an Occupy website, including the last line:

Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.

This #ows movement empowers real people to create real change from the bottom up. We want to see a general assembly in every backyard, on every street corner because we don’t need Wall Street and we don’t need politicians to build a better society.

the only solution is WorldRevolution

Based upon on view of those in the Occupy movement, they are not the 99%, but seem to be opposed to the top 5-50% of income earners.

As I have mentioned before seems that the main motivations for those involved in the Occupy protests are a combination of covetousness, political objectives, economic uncertainty, and class warfare. Sadly, many of the protesters apparently believe that they are entitled to assets that other people have accumulated. US President Barack Obama, in my view, has repeatedly encouraged class warfare through his rhetoric and so the “Occupy” movement is no surprise (I believe that if he is re-elected, that there is a good chance that Barack Obama will see protests turning increasingly violent in the future–much more so that we have already seen).

Of course there is economic uncertainty for many in the USA and other lands. I am, though, certain that ultimately the US dollar will crash and be less than worthless as that is consistent with various biblical prophecies. I personally believe that, in the USA, factors such as legalizing abortion, redefining marriage, the increasing acceptance of immodestly dressed females, pornography, violent sports, covetousness, and other sins are the root cause of its economic problems (cf. Deuteronomy 28:15-20).

National repentance, which likely will not happen, is the only hope–and since that seems nearly impossible, personal repentance is the only solution.

World revolution in a human protest movement is not the solution to the problems of the world.  God gave humankind 6,000 years to develop their own systems without Him (Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?).  As this 6,000 year period gets close to ending, the only real solution is the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of His kingdom.

As far as world revolution being the answer, notice what Jesus warned about:

21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.  (Matthew 24:21-22)

Human effort will bring the world to the point that unless God intervened, no human would be left alive.  Thus, to imply, as the Occupy website does, that their type of protests are going to solve the problems facing humankind is a vain and false hope.

Some people have hinted that the Occupy movement may give government officials a sufficient excuse (crisis exploitation) to go more towards a “police state” in order to stop chaos. We will see. The Arab Spring that the Occupy website refers to seems to be leading to a resurgence of more extreme Islamic regimes which ultimately will result in less, not more liberty, for those in those lands who do not believe that they have to live according to a certain interpretation of the Muslim religion.  Even now, non-Muslims in many of the lands affected by the Arab Spring are worse off and have less liberty/rights/freedom than they had before the revolutions.  Perhaps this is something that the Occupy people should consider/

The sorrows and troubles are still in the beginning stages (Matthew 24:5-8) and will get much worse (Matthew 24:21-22). I believe that class warfare and other protests will help weaken the USA, Canada, and their other Anglo-nations and may also be a factor in them being vulnerable to real warfare: invasion by the Beast.

Van Rompuy Warns of Asia-Pacific Militarization

The EU President Herman van Rompuy has an Asian concern:

EU President Warns of Asia-Pacific Militarization

AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE
Published: 9 Nov 2011

ZURICH – The Asia-Pacific region is showing signs of militarization that could lead to an arms race, EU President Herman Van Rompuy warned Nov. 9, calling for closer trade ties to defuse any political tensions.

“Whereas Europe used to be the most dangerous continent in the past century… the focus of security analysts and hard power strategic planners has recently moved towards developments in Asia and the Pacific,” said Van Rompuy in a speech at the University of Zurich.  http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=8196667&c=ASI&s=TOP

He and all of Europe have real reasons to be concerned.

The Bible shows that ultimately, a major dictator (and I do not anticipate at this time that it will be Herman van Rompuy) will rise up and rule end time Babylon (Revelation 17:1-13), the final King of the North, European Beast power of Bible prophecy, but later be troubled from those of the north and east.

Yet, at least economically, this European leader will essentially rule the world for a while.  About 3 1/2 years after he destroys the strongest fortresses (Daniel 11:39, which would seem to be the USA and its Anglo-descended allies), and sometime after he destroys the Islamic King of the South confederation (Daniel 11:40-43), the Bible shows that this leader will be concerned about news from the north and the east:

40…the king of the North…44…news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him. (Daniel 11:40,44-45)

This power of the north and east essentially will be a Russian-led confederation.  This northern power includes those from the ends of the earth (apparently the Pacific area of Asia) that will destroy much of the Babylonian empire of the King of the North:

9 For behold, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon
An assembly of great nations from the north country,
And they shall array themselves against her;
From there she shall be captured.
Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior;
None shall return in vain. (Jeremiah 50:9)

41 “Behold, a people shall come from the north,
And a great nation and many kings
Shall be raised up from the ends of the earth.
42 They shall hold the bow and the lance;
They are cruel and shall not show mercy.
Their voice shall roar like the sea;
They shall ride on horses,
Set in array, like a man for the battle,
Against you, O daughter of Babylon. (Jeremiah 50:41-42)

LCG reported the following last month:

In a recent Russian Izvestia article, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin shared his vision for a Eurasian Union. Mr. Putin noted this future union would include several former “Eastern Block” nations, and also nations from Asia and the Pacific Rim…Bible prophecy has long-foretold of something very similar to Mr. Putin’s vision for a Eurasian Union, but with a very different outcome! Revelation 13 and Daniel 11:40-44 indicate that an end-time European Beast power [the King of the North] will move into the Glorious Land (Israel), but the Beast will be disturbed by news from the “east and the north”—the location of Mr. Putin’s Eurasian Union! Revelation 8 and 9 describe events that will take place during the final year prior to Christ’s return—the Day of the Lord. The sixth trumpet plague of Revelation 9:13-19 and Daniel 11:44 describe a 200-million-man army that will descend on Jerusalem from the East. This army will kill one-third of mankind and destroy the armies of the Beast that have occupied Jerusalem. The only nations on earth today that have the potential to muster such a vast army are located in the geographical area of this proposed Eurasian Union—Russia, China, India, etc. (Living Church of God, World Ahead Weekly Update, October 27, 2011).

And while Europe is not yet ready to become the final King of the North, and the Asian confederation is not yet formed, the military of the Asian region is increasing and ultimately will be part of fulfilling various biblical prophecies.

Germany’s Merkel Says Restructure with ‘More Europe’ Needed

European leaders again seem to have made an accord to save the Euro:

Italy at breaking point, Merkel calls for ‘new Europe’

By REUTERS
11/09/2011 21:46…
Merkel said Europe’s plight was now so “unpleasant” that deep structural reforms were needed quickly, warning the rest of the world would not wait. “That will mean more Europe, not less Europe,” she told a conference in Berlin…
“It is time for a breakthrough to a new Europe,” Merkel said.  http://www.jpost.com/International/Article.aspx?id=244997

The Bible is clear that Europe will have to restructure (Revelation 17).

As I have written before, the Bible is clear that Europe will appear disconnected and never will be thoroughly unified (Daniel 2:41-43). Many in Europe may like various steps or proposals. Europe may have additional civil unrest and possibly civil war (see pages 79-81 of my 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect book) if the Euro crisis expands, which would likely be stopped by the final Beast (cf. Revelation 13:4), who is the final King of the North (Daniel 11:36-43).

The prophecies in both the books of Daniel (9:26-27; 11:20-44) and Revelation (13;17;18) point to a power to be based out of Europe (there are also European pointed prophecies in other books of the Bible, such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, etc.) that will fulfill many end-time prophecies.

We in LCG do believe that despite problems and temporary “fixes” with the Euro, Europe will have to reorganize, and ultimately fulfill the prophecies in the Bible about being the final Beast power of Revelation, the final King of the North of Daniel 11.

For details on those prophecies, check out the following:

Europa, the Beast, and Revelation Where did Europe get its name? What might Europe have to do with the Book of Revelation? What about “the Beast”? What is ahead for Europe?

When do the 1335 days, 1290 days, and 1260 days (the time, times, and half a time) of Daniel 12 begin? When does the Bible show that economic collapse will affect the United States?
Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North? Is the German Defense Minister one to watch? What do Catholic, Byzantine, and biblical prophecies suggest?

Can the Great Tribulation Begin in 2011, 2012, or 2013? Can the Great Tribulation begin today? When is the earliest that the Great Tribulation can begin? What is the Day of the Lord? Why does Daniel 9:26-27 seem to be referring to a peace deal confirmed by a European leader.

Iran Calls for an ‘International Islamic Power Block’

Iran wants unification amongst Muslims that will be able to stand up against the West:

Ayatollah Khamenei Calls for ‘Islamic Power Bloc’

AINA (press release) – ‎Nov 8, 2011‎

TEHRAN — Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called on the world’s Muslim nations to form an international Islamic power bloc.

Referring to the popular uprisings in the Arab world and the recent anti-capitalism movement across the world in his message to Hajj Pilgrims in 2011, Ayatollah Khamenei called on the Muslim world to “make the most of this opportunity for the formation of an international Islamic power-bloc.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said such global developments “can change the destiny of the Islamic Ummah (nation)” and herald “a bright future accompanied with dignity and progress.”

“Today, the West, the United States and Zionism are weaker than ever before,” the Leader pointed out.

Iran is primarily a Shi’ite Muslim nation.  In the Sunni Islamic world (most of the Arab nations) there is a similar call for a caliphate, which is essentially a multi-national Islamic empire

Here is a news report today that went over certain aspects of Islam that seem relevant to this idea:

Islam is not only a religion, but the common political – almost familial — bond that unites all Muslims…

Even though, throughout much of the twentieth century, most of the Muslim world seemed to Westerners to have abandoned its Islamic identity in favor of national identities — such as Arabic, Turkish, or Iranian — Islamic identity apparently continued underneath as an essential component of identity. Loyalty, for a large number of Muslims — and most significantly for the Islamists — is still owed to the amorphous concept of the Muslim Nation, or Ummah. As the Muslim prophet Muhammad said, “All Muslims belong to one people, the only difference among them is in piety.” For Muslims throughout the centuries, this feeling of brotherhood…the concept of Islamic brotherhood transcends borders…

For Sunnis, a Caliph was and still is considered God’s representative on earth. In addition to his political role as head of the Ottoman Empire, to his people the Caliph’s role as a spiritual leader is roughly equivalent to that of the Pope in the Vatican…

In Egypt, Muslims feel a closer tie with Muslims in Syria or Saudi Arabia, than they do with the Egyptian Christians with whom they have been living for centuries.  http://www.hudson-ny.org/2572/brotherhood-in-islam#_ftnref17

The Muslim Brotherhood, which has been rising throughout much of the Arab world this year, wants to re-establish this Caliph.

Here is some of what the official English-language website of the Muslim Brotherhood teaches about its history and goals:

Al-Banna was chiefly responsible for formulating the policies of this association…the idea of universal muslim state was constantly implied due to the association’s focus on Islam. While strongly disapproving of local brands of Nationalism, particularly if they were Western-inspired and secularly-minded, Banna developed his vision of Pan-Islamic Nationalism, insisting that Islam and Nationalism were complementary, especially when the latter operated within the parameter of the Islamic truth, since, for the Muslim Brethren, Islam was of course both religion and state. Here we need to analyze what was the basic concept from which Hassan al-Banna initiated to establish such Islamic organization. Then we would also explore his thought of the causes of descend of Islamic society particularly in Egypt. However, his effort and works deserved great consideration of Islamic society in the revolution to the revival of Islamic state (Caliphate)…The Muslim Brethren…believe that the caliphate is a symbol of Islamic Union and an indication of the bonds between the nations of Islam. They see the caliphate and its re-establishment as a top priority, subsequently; an association of Muslims people should be set up, which would elect the imam”. (zhyntativ. HASAN AL-BANNA AND HIS POLITICAL THOUGHT OF ISLAMIC BROTHERHOOD. IkhwanWeb, May 13, 2008. http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=17065 viewed 09/22/11)

Events seem to be being orchestrated to accomplish a version of the above.

While Iran will not lead the final Islamic confederation, its supreme leader has publicly voiced what many Muslims want.  And this is something consistent with Bible prophecies concerning an end-time leader that Daniel writes is the King of the South (Daniel 11:40) rising up.

Events are moving forward in the Middle East, Iran, and other parts of the world for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

Some items of possibly related interest may include:

The Arab World In the Bible, History, and Prophecy The Bible discusses the origins of the Arab world and discusses the Middle East in prophecy. What is ahead for the Middle East and those who follow Islam? What does Islam teach about the Imam Mahdi?
Is There A Future King of the South? Some no longer believe there needs to be. Might Egypt, Islam, Iran, Arabs, or Ethiopia be involved? Is he the Imam Mahdi? What does the Bible say?
Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel Are the Americans, Canadians, British, Scottish, Welsh, Australians, Anglo-Southern Africans, and New Zealanders descendants of Joseph? Where are the lost ten-tribes of Israel? Who are the lost tribes of Israel? What will happen to the Jews in Israel? Will God punish the U.S.A., Canada, United Kingdom, and other Anglo nations? Why might God allow them to be punished first?
Will the Anglo-Nations be Divided? Will the lands of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand be divided? What does Bible prophecy teach? Are there non-biblical prophecies that support this idea? Who will divide those lands? Who will end up with the lands and the people?
Can the Great Tribulation Begin in 2010, 2011, or 2012? Can the Great Tribulation begin today? What happens before the Great Tribulation in the “beginning of sorrows”? What happens in the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord? When is the earliest that the Great Tribulation can begin? What is the Day of the Lord?
2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect This is a link related to a book by Bob Thiel (COGwriter). This also has YouTube videos. This book documents and explains hundreds of prophecies. And since it was published, at least 17 have already started to come to pass (including two or three related to Islam, Israel, and the Middle East).

CGPFK’s Ronald Weinland Again Falsely Declares Jesus Will Return on May, 27, 2012

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

VS.

COGwriter

In a written post yesterday, CGPFK’s Ronald Weinland declared the following:

God clearly and mightily foretold the outcome of our time right now…

By the end of 2008, God ended all His warnings to mankind. The history of 6,000 years of testimony—of God’s true word—of His true witness to mankind, about mankind, had been fully established. And since the end of 2008, “God’s final witness” of that 6,000-year record is being fully established—fully recorded for all time through unfolding events that culminate on May 27, 2012…

In two short months, the world will be thrust into the seventh and final phase of this end-time. This period will be marked by well over fifty percent of all Bible prophecy being fulfilled…

God first revealed to His two end-time witnesses, His final two prophets that His Son would return to this earth in a second-coming as King of kings on May 27, 2012. That revelation gave way to numerous other revelations concerning end-time prophetic events. But anyone who hears of this, in the world or in the Church that was scattered, considers this to be absurd, presumptuous, arrogant, and filled with self- aggrandizement.

Also in his letter, he went over some world events of possible prophetic interest–and while certain events are aligning with biblical prophecy, he has confused the beginning of sorrows with the Great Tribulation, and the end is not yet (Matthew 24:6) and God’s warning is not finished (cf. Matthew 24:14).  Perhaps Ron Weinland made this post as he hopes to get a lot of media attention like the false Harold Camping did–and even if Ronald Weinland gets more publicity, he and his followers will once again be shown to be wrong like Harold Camping was (more on him can be found in the article Harold Camping’s Teachings About the End of the World Do Not Agree with the Bible).

For those unfamiliar with him, Ron Weinland was a minister in the United Church of God who left, became unitarian, and declared himself a prophet.   Yet, Ronald Weinland blames others for being presumptuous, arrogant, and filled with self- aggrandizement.

The Bible teaches this about presumptuous prophets:

…when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him (Deuteronomy 18:22).

Concerning his second book 2008 – God’s Final Witness, Ronald Weinland declared: in 2006

From now until the latter part of 2008, many prophecies are going to begin to be fulfilled, especially the Seven Thunders of the Book of Revelation, which the apostle John saw but was restricted from recording. Those thunders are revealed in this book, as well as detailed accounts of the final three and one-half years of man’s self-rule on earth, which are recorded in the account of the Seventh Seal of Revelation.

Some of these prophecies concern the demise of the United States over the next two years, which will be followed by man’s final world war.  (http://www.the-end.com/ 11/26/06).

Of course, the USA, five years later, is still around and the final world war has not happened and cannot for some years from now.  Ron Weinland also publicly declared that the USA would be nuked in 2008 or he would stop preaching and admit he was false–he did not (details are in the article Concerns About Ronald Weinland’s Church of God-Preparing for the Kingdom of God).

His 2008 – God’s Final Witness book actually stated, amongst other falsehoods, the following:

It will be revealed in a very short time whether I am God’s prophet or not, as well as whether scattered Church leaders are God’s ministers any longer or not. As stated in a previous chapter, either one of these is true or neither is true.

To make it absolutely clear, my petition covers more in regard to the scattered ministers. The most notable among them will be those who die toward the beginning. However, every minister who was scattered, who fails to repent early on and return to God (with me, as God’s minister, teaching them) will die during the final three and one-half years of great tribulation. They will not be in the first resurrection, and they will not see the millennial reign of God’s Kingdom on earth.

The most notable deaths early on, which are yet to come to pass, will be the two remaining television presenters in the Living (p. 107) Church of God. The sound of this thunder will be intensified by the early deaths of the leaders of the Philadelphia Church of God, the Restored Church of God and the Church of the Great God. Then, those in the largest scattered group, who think they have escaped, will be lifted up to believe that God is with them because they are so filled with pride. But, when that happens, the deaths of many in the United Church of God will begin.

How much more specific can one be to show that he is either of God, and indeed His prophet, or someone who has clearly stepped over the line to be dealt with by God in a speedy manner. Time will tell! And, you don’t have long to wait! (p. 108).

The above simply has not come to pass.  Since Ronald Weinland declared that the Great Tribulation began on December 14, 2008, it is not possible that they died toward the beginning as nearly 3 of that 3 1/2 year period is already over.  None of those leaders died.  And even if they all were to die now, his prophecy that the notable ones would die toward the beginning still was false.

As far as his statement about others being filled with self- aggrandizement, Ronald Weinland declared himself one of God’s two witnesses, declared himself an apostle, declared himself the Elijah to come, etc.  It is Ronald Weinland who has repeatedly gone on public record to try to flatter himself.  He is not God’s prophet or witness.

Sadly, Ron Weinland is one of many who are fulling the following prophecy:

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.  And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.  By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber (2 Peter 2:1-3).

Ronald Weinland has always been a false prophet and the end is not on May 27, 2012–Jesus will not return on May 27, 2012.  Those who believe Ron Weinland are deceived.

On the other hand, those who do not believe that the end will come are also deceived. The Bible warns against people who do not believe that the end will come:

…knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men (2 Peter 3:3-7).

And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed (Luke 17:26-30).

The end will come.  The end will come soon.  But the end is not yet:

4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

While the beginning of sorrows seems to have begun that JESUS (not Ron Weinland) spoke of, Jesus also said just because of the sorrows, the “end is not yet.”

There simply are too many events that have to happen.  And while world events are aligning with Bible prophecy as I so often post on this page, we still do NOT have the seven-year treaty of Daniel 9:27, there is no clear King of the North (even though I have someone as a possible candidate for that), there is no clear King of the South (though there are calls in the Islamic world for one), etc. (for more details see, When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2011, 2012, or 2013?).  World events are pointing to the fulfillment of these are other biblical prophecies, but until some more events are fulfilled, the Great Tribulation cannot begin and Jesus cannot return.

Jesus will NOT return in 2012.

Want to Know When Sunset is in Your Area?

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

COGwriter

Last Sunday, the USA and some other nations changed their clocks to go off of Daylight Savings Time and back to Standard Time.

Because of that, sunset will be over an hour earlier this Friday.

Those of us who observe the weekly Sabbath from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday will need to cease work much earlier this week than last week.  Actually, my office will need to start to close earlier on Fridays the next few months because of this.

Anyway, over a week ago, I changed the link at the www.cogwriter.com home page for sunset times.  The US government had changed the URL and that had made it a ridiculously long process to get the information.  The new link (which is also from the US government) is faster (though not as fast as I would prefer).  Here is that new link for Sunset Times for the U.S.A. (and international cities if longitudinal location is known).

Since sunset will be much earlier in the USA and some other nations this week, if you keep the seventh-day Sabbath, you might wish to look at when sunset will be in your area soon.

LCG: Real Christians Change

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

COGwriter

Here is today’s commentary from the Living Church of God:

Charles Knowlton | Tuesday, November 08, 2011
Paul Harvey once told a story about a tough lumberjack who went to town one weekend, fell in with a religious group, and was baptized. He went back to the lumber camp–much to the concern of his preacher, who worried that others would make fun of him. When he went back to town the preacher asked him how it went. He said, “They never caught on.”

Contrary to this lumberjack’s story, being baptized and growing as a Christian must involve change and overcoming. The problem is that religion means different things to different people. To most, it is little more than their name on the church roll, a superficial religious association necessary to maintain social ties and some peace of mind. Even if they do not attend regularly—some just once or twice a year—“membership” gives a feeling of belonging and a sense of security. Yet it is a false sense of security.

At another extreme are the “religious hobbyists” who move from church to church, constantly studying and learning “new things” and always on the hunt for the church that has beliefs closest to their own. Always “studying” according to their interests, they often take offense at the idea of being “taught” by a church that might understand more truth than they do. In fact, they are not shy about preaching to the preachers, and feel they are heaven-bound for their efforts.

Some families set down a strict rule that religion and politics must never be discussed at family gatherings, in order to prevent pleasant family reunions from turning into heated arguments, with animated participants fervently trying to convert their family members over to their way of thinking.

But where is the truth in all of this? Consider John 17:17: “Your word is truth.” Not surprisingly, many like to use the Bible to try to prove their points. It is common to see people “pick and choose” those parts of the Bible that seem to support their ideas, while ignoring other parts that, if honestly examined, would prove them wrong. Even beyond “pick and choose,” however, we see that some are willing to change the Bible to suit their preconceptions. Just take a look at modern English-language Bibles. From “dumbing down” to denying gender to shading potentially “offensive” passages, translations in many cases seem to be growing worse and worse.

Change, however, has its place. But instead of changing the Bible to meet our expectations, we need to be willing to change ourselves to conform to God’s word! God has a plan that involves every human being, and that provides both a way to change and evidence of the benefits that come from changing!

The Apostle Paul came face to face with the need for change. He recognized his need to struggle against his human nature. Paul explains in Scripture that he often did what he did not want to do, and failed to do what he knew he should (Romans 7:15-24). He asked, “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (v. 24).

Thankfully, in verse 25, Paul answered that question: “I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!” For those who want to argue, the Bible is an inexhaustible source of arguments. But for those who want to change, it is a road-map to freedom and peace.

To learn more, read our articles, “Are You Willing to Change?” and “Can You Really Change Your Life?”

Jesus taught:

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

Thus, the lumberjack that Paul Harvey spoke of apparently did not understand that his way of life should have become different enough that others would notice.  His light did not shine.

In the Bible it is clear that the Apostle Peter taught,

38 Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38)

To repent means to change direction.  Real Christians change.  And as Peter and Paul wrote, they are to:

18…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18)

1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

While massive repentance and truly turning to Christ is the only real long-term hope for the world, this probably will not happen until after the Great Tribulation (though some will repent now, and a multitude will repent during the Great Tribulation), you personally can repent and change.  Jesus does offer protection from the hour of trial that is coming on the earth (Revelation 3:10).

The sorrows and troubles are just beginning and will get much worse. Hopefully, you will be among those that will wake up and change before it is too late.

Abortion and Mississipi’s ‘Personhood’ Vote

Wat Abortion

Bas-relief at Angkor Wat depicting a demon performing an ancient abortion.

COGwriter

There has been an interesting ballot measure in Mississippi:

(CNN) — Mississippi voters are casting ballots Tuesday on an amendment to the state constitution that would define life as beginning at the moment of conception.

Initiative 26 would define personhood as “every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional equivalent thereof.”

Though the text of the amendment is simple, the implications if it passes couldn’t be more complex. If approved by voters, it would make it impossible to get an abortion in the state…http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/08/us/mississippi-personhood-amendment/?hpt=hp_c1

Of course a fertilized human ova is a person.  Yet according to a late news report from CBS News, that initiative lost:

CBS News

So, apparently even in Mississippi the majority does not understand when life begins or at least the majority of those that voted do not.

Yet, does anyone think that when they have an abortion that they were pregnant with anything other than a human baby?

Those who accept the Bible should realize that the personhood of the unborn is recognized in scripture.  The Bible makes it clear that David and Jeremiah were human and known before to God while they were in the womb prior to being born:

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.  And in Your book they all were written,  The days fashioned for me,When as yet there were none of them (Psalm 139:13-16, NKJV throughout except when otherwise noted).

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying:

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations”  (Jeremiah 1:4-5).

Abortion kills an unborn person.  Abortion is wrong.

The Bible is clear that those who support abortion are also wrong:

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:28-32).

There are consequences to sin, especially sins on a national scale.

Few consider that the debt and budget problems in USA are related to abortion and other sins. But I believe that they are.

Since movement in the USA towards the Roe vs. Wade decision in 1973, not only have about 50,000,000 babies been aborted/murdered, the USA has gone from being the world’s largest creditor nation to the world’s largest debtor nation.  The USA long prided itself on being a “Christian nation,” but no real Christian judges or politicians should have been willing to “legalize” sins such as the horrific practices as abortion (for details on how horrific, please see the article Abortion, the Bible, and a Woman’s Right to Choose).

Americans who should have known better have disobeyed God.

And according to the Bible, debt is a curse of disobeying God:

43 “The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. 45 “Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. (Deuteronomy 28:43-46)

The destruction of the USA is coming and abortion in one of the many reasons (see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).

Also notice what has happened to the economy of the United States:

In real terms, as mentioned above, US growth in the 21st century seems to have fallen back to medieval levels. Why?…Because the economy failed to produce real growth. After 1973, wages, for example, adjusted for inflation, went nowhere. (Bonner B. Economic Growth in the Internet Age. Daily Reckoning, June 23, 2011)

Is it a coincidence or curse that wages in the USA in real terms has gone nowhere despite all the technological advances over the decades?

I do not believe it is a coincidence.  I believe it is part of a curse.  There is a price to pay for sins like abortion.

Unborn humans are still people.  Abortion is wrong.

Seventh-day Adventist Official Position on the Millennium Differs From Beliefs of Early Christians

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

James and Ellen White
James and Ellen White

COGwriter

Today I came across the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Fundamental Beliefs at their official website.  Here is what is listed as Fundamental Belief 27:

27. Millennium and the End of Sin:
The millennium is the thousand-year reign of Christ with His saints in heaven between the first and second resurrections. During this time the wicked dead will be judged; the earth will be utterly desolate, without living human inhabitants, but occupied by Satan and his angels. At its close Christ with His saints and the Holy City will descend from heaven to earth. The unrighteous dead will then be resurrected, and with Satan and his angels will surround the city; but fire from God will consume them and cleanse the earth. The universe will thus be freed of sin and sinners forever. (Rev. 20; 1 Cor. 6:2, 3; Jer. 4:23-26; Rev. 21:1-5; Mal. 4:1; Eze. 28:18, 19.)

While I disagree that all sin will be gone then (cf. Isaiah 65:20, which happens after the millennium) and various other points of the SDA position, the main point I wish to go over is the view that the saints reign in heaven as opposed to on the earth at that time.

Notice that the Book of Revelation makes it clear that God’s people will reign on the earth with Christ:

9…”You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth” (Revelation 5:9-10).

Thus, a future physical reign on the earth is clearly prophesied.  Not heaven.

Chapter 20 of the Book of Revelation clearly teaches that there will be a thousand year reign of Christ:

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

This millennial reign is essentially the “first phase” of the kingdom of God on the earth (more information can be found in the article The Kingdom of God was the Emphasis of Jesus and the Early Church).

But did early Christians teach that the thousand year reign was on earth?

Yes.

Notice what Papias, who was a hearer of John and a friend of Polycarp, in the early second century taught about the millennial reign on earth. Eusebius recorded that Papias (an early 2nd century leader) taught:

…there wil be a period of a thousand years after the resurrection of the dead, and that the kingdom of Christ will be set up in material form on this very earth…(Eusebius. The History of the Church, Book III, Chapter XXIX, Verse 12, p. 69)

Here is another translation of the above:

… there will be a millennium after the resurrection from the dead, when the personal reign of Christ will be established on this earth (Fragments of Papias, VI. See also Eusebius, Church History, Book 3, XXXIX, 12).

Papias taught that it would be a time of great abundance:

In like manner, [He said] that a grain of wheat would produce ten thousand ears, and that every ear would have ten thousand grains, and every grain would yield ten pounds of clear, pure, fine flour; and that apples, and seeds, and grass would produce in similar proportions; and that all animals, feeding then only on the productions of the earth, would become peaceable and harmonious, and be in perfect subjection to man.” [Testimony is borne to these things in writing by Papias, an ancient man, who was a hearer of John and a friend of Polycarp, in the fourth of his books; for five books were composed by him…] (Fragments of Papias, IV).

The above is consistent with the view that we in the Living Church of God hold.

In the second century, Irenaeus, who though he ended up compromising with Rome, claimed to have met Polycarp of Smyrna. Here is some of what he wrote about this:

That the whole creation shall, according to God’s will, obtain a vast increase, that it may bring forth and sustain fruits such [as we have mentioned], Isaiah declares: “And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every prominent hill, water running everywhere in that day, when many shall perish, when walls shall fall. And the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, seven times that of the day, when He shall heal the anguish of His people, and do away with the pain of His stroke.” Now “the pain of the stroke” means that inflicted at the beginning upon disobedient man in Adam, that is, death; which [stroke] the Lord will heal when He raises us from the dead, and restores the inheritance of the fathers, as Isaiah again says: “And thou shall be confident in the LORD, and He will cause thee to pass over the whole earth, and feed thee with the inheritance of Jacob thy father.” This is what the Lord declared: “Happy are those servants whom the Lord when He cometh shall find watching. Verily I say unto you, that He shall gird Himself, and make them to sit down [to meat], and will come forth and serve them. And if He shall come in the evening watch, and find them so, blessed are they, because He shall make them sit down, and minister to them; or if this be in the second, or it be in the third, blessed are they.” Again John also says the very same in the Apocalypse: “Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.” Then, too, Isaiah has declared the time when these events shall occur; he says: “And I said, Lord, how long? Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses be without men, and the earth be left a desert. And after these things the LORD shall remove us men far away (longe nos faciet Deus homines), and those who shall remain shall multiply upon the earth.” Then Daniel also says this very thing: “And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of those under the heaven, is given to the saints of the Most High God, whose kingdom is everlasting, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.” And lest the promise named should be understood as referring to this time, it was declared to the prophet: “And come thou, and stand in thy lot at the consummation of the days.” Now, that the promises were not announced to the prophets and the fathers alone, but to the Churches united to these from the nations (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 34, Verses 2-3. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

For all these and other words were unquestionably spoken in reference to the resurrection of the just, which takes place after the coming of Antichrist, and the destruction of all nations under his rule; in [the times of] which [resurrection] the righteous shall reign in the earth, waxing stronger by the sight of the Lord: and through Him they shall become accustomed to partake in the glory of God the Father, and shall enjoy in the kingdom intercourse and communion with the holy angels, and union with spiritual beings; and [with respect to] those whom the Lord shall find in the flesh, awaiting Him from heaven, and who have suffered tribulation, as well as escaped the hands of the Wicked one (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 35, Verse 1. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

Thus Irenaeus clearly taught that there was to be a physical kingdom of God on the earth and that resurrected saints would reign in that kingdom.  And that time frame is after the first resurrection, the time period of the millennium.

Nepos, who though the Catholics now claim him (they also claim Polycarp and others who renounced them), understood and taught that the saints would reign on the earth.  Here is what The Catholic Encyclopedia reported:

An Egyptian bishop, Nepos, taught the Chiliastic error that there would be a reign of Christ upon earth for a thousand years, a period of corporal delights; he founded this doctrine upon the Apocalypse in a book entitled “Refutation of the Allegorizers” (Chapman, John. “Dionysius of Alexandria.” The Catholic Encyclopedia. Vol. 5. New York: Robert Appleton Company, 1909. 14 Aug. 2008 <http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05011a.htm>.).

The following from Dionysius clearly shows that Nepos was still respected after he died (Nepos died prior to Dionysius’ mid-third century writing of the following) and really did not refute him from a biblical perspective:

But as they produce a certain composition by Nepos, on which they insist very strongly, as if it demonstrated incontestably that there will be a (temporal) reign of Christ upon the earth, I have to say, that in many other respects I accept the opinion of Nepos, and love him at once for his faith, and his laboriousness, and his patient study in the Scriptures, as also for his great efforts in psalmody, by which even now many of the brethren are delighted. I hold the man, too, in deep respect still more, inasmuch as he has gone to his rest before us. Nevertheless the truth is to be prized and reverenced above all things else. And while it is indeed proper to praise and approve ungrudgingly anything that is said aright, it is no less proper to examine and correct anything which may appear to have been written unsoundly. If he had been present then himself, and had been stating his opinions orally, it would have been sufficient to discuss the question together without the use of writing, and to endeavour to convince the opponents, and carry them along by interrogation and reply. But the work is published, and is, as it seems to some, of a very persuasive character; and there are unquestionably some teachers, who hold that the law and the prophets are of no importance, and who decline to follow the Gospels, and who depreciate the epistles of the apostles, and who have also made large promises  regarding the doctrine of this composition, as though it were some great and hidden mystery, and who, at the same time, do not allow that our simpler brethren have any sublime and elevated conceptions either of our Lord’s appearing in His glory and His true divinity, or of our own resurrection from the dead, and of our being gathered together to Him, and assimilated to Him, but, on the contrary, endeavour to lead them to hope  for things which are trivial and corruptible, and only such as what we find at present in the kingdom of God. And since this is the case, it becomes necessary for us to discuss this subject with our brother Nepos just as if he were present (Dionysius of Alexandria. From the Two Books on the Promises. Copyright © 2008 by Kevin Knight. Viewed 8/14/08).

In other words, Nepos knew his Bible, but did not hold to the same position that allegorists like Dionysius of Alexandria held.  But those who held to Judaeo-Christian beliefs, while slightly chastised, simply were almost never condemned by the early allegorists.  And he taught that the saints would reign on the earth.  Nepos is one who I have long considered was part of the true Church of God and not part of the Greco-Roman confederation that was forming in his day.  Nepos was one of several leaders that stood up against the allegorists who were rising up in his day.

Saints are to reign on the earth for a thousand years with Christ.

So, from the Bible, and the understanding of second (Papias) and third (Nepos) century Christians, as well as from some who knew actual Christians (Irenaeus) it is clear that the early Christians did believe and teach that the millennial reign would be on the earth.

Thus, those who are SDAs might wish to ask since their church does not teach this, if it truly was part of the original church or if it is (as I have long contended) basically a breakaway group that lost many of its original faithful teachings.

Gold Up and Italian Bond Rates Soar

The economic situation in Europe is concerning many. Gold and interest rates on Italian bonds went:

Gold tops $1790 to end at over six-week high

‎MarketWatch – Myra P. Saefong – 7 November 2011
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Gold futures closed higher Monday, topping $1,790 an ounce, as ongoing concerns over the euro-zone debt crisis and reports that Germany rejected calls to use its gold reserves to help shore up the region’s rescue fund helped boost prices.

Italy bond yields soar; euro zone troubles deepen

Reuters – ‎7 November 2011

Debt in the Eurozone and the USA economy, combined with recession fears in the West seem to be factors in gold’s rise.  The fear that Italy could be the next victim of the Euro denominated debt crisis, and that the EU will not be able to help enough, is causing rates to rise on that nations bonds.   The price of stocks and gold will fluctuate (for more current gold quotes, check out the Financial Information link, which also has links to stocks, currencies, and other financial valuations). Many are going for gold because they are scared as well as for a type of reserve currency.

The idea of gold could be accumulated to support a new currency, while the US dollar tanks, is discussed on page 333 of my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect. And this appears to be what will happen, as well is what is we see sometimes happening now.

The financial world is somewhat starting to understand some of this–but few really know how bad it will get. Of course, if the USA actually is perceived to solve some of its own debt crisis this month, like it is supposed to, this could result in a drop in gold prices.  And if Europe comes up with a plan that people believe, especially if the Italian economy also holds up well, then interest rates that have soared will drop.

While Europe will have problems and ultimately must restructure (Revelation 17:11-13), the biblical reality is that US dollar will ultimately be worthless and the USA ultimately taken over because of its sins and debt–Europe, including Italy, will rise up for a while. Increased interest gold (and silver) suggest decreased interest in the US dollar. Of course, with the rapid rise in the price of gold in the past few weeks, it may go down–though I believe that after the US dollar is worthless, gold still will have value (Daniel 11; Revelation 18).

Of course, gold and an improved economy will not save humanity, only Jesus can do that, but it may be prudent for people to consider the signs of the times.
