The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

The latest TW News & Prophecy from the Living Church of God has the following:

U.S. foreign aid to support homosexual agenda.

In another groundbreaking announcement this week, the White House highlighted its “wide-ranging effort to use U.S. foreign aid to promote rights for gays and lesbians abroad, including combating attempts by foreign governments to criminalize homosexuality.” Aid typically used to support and establish democratic governments, fight oppressive dictatorial regimes, and feed the hungry, will now be further diluted in order to support the rights of homosexuals, bisexuals and transgender individuals. This broad-reaching edict will affect the following U.S. government agencies: “Departments of State, the Treasury, Defense and Homeland Security” (Associated Press, December 6, 2011).

Long ago Isaiah prophesied that God would hide His face from the Israelite-descended nations because of their continued iniquities and sins (Isaiah 64:7). Isaiah continued by noting God’s frustration with these nations: “I have stretched out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, according to their own thoughts; a people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face… Who say, ‘Keep to yourself, do not come near me’…” (Isaiah 65:2-5).

As the Israelite-descended nations continue to “push God away” and follow the path of sin, God prophesies a difficult road ahead.

The Bible does not support the type of homosexual rights agenda that the USA is telling the world to adopt.

There were other societies that have had their own issues of openly advocating sins that their residents seemed to view as acceptable. Notice what happened in a couple of such towns between three thousand and four thousand years ago:

24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. (Genesis 19:24-25)

And why did it happen?

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

Why mention this in the 21st century? Because God turned:

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6,
NKJV)

Thus, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah were to serve as an example to those who would live as they did. The USA, which has lots of Bibles, should know this–but refuses to wish to truly retain God in its knowledge.

Of course, not everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah were homosexuals as those that strictly practice that could not reproduce. Yet, notice that the destruction that hit their cities destroyed all that were there and notice that something like this is to happen again according to Jesus:

26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:26-29)

The USA can pretend that increasing “homosexual rights” is a proper goal, but the Bible suggests otherwise.

The following passage, written nearly two thousand years ago, essentially predicts resurgences of amorality, plus explains why this happens:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man — and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:18-32)

Many of those in the top governmental positions in the West do not wish to retain the word of God in their knowledge and endorse evolution instead of creation as the origin of life, so it is little wonder that increasing societal acceptance of sin is occurring. Also notice that God warned that many would “also approve of those who practice” various forms of sin.

National repentance is the only real long-term hope for the USA:

Yet, it seems to be too late for the USA to seriously consider this as the political leadership in the USA has largely ignored that approach. The carnal “solutions” offered and agreed to by both political parties in the USA will not get it back on track economically. Its economy may appear to do better for a while, but in the long run, the USA does not have real solutions to its economic woes. There are carnal solutions that the USA could do now (mainly related to energy production and tariffs) that could help extend the situation, but too many of its leaders have rejected God and have the type of “reprobate mind” that prevents them from seeing even those “convenient” options (cf. Romans 1:18-32, KJV). The debate I have heard from some politicians and pundits on the USA economy strongly suggests to me, at least, that many do not understand production, economics, job-creation, nor the Bible.

Few seem to tie the national legalization of abortions in the U.S.A. in 1973, the increased legalizations of homosexual marriages (e.g. NY Approves ‘Homosexual Marriage’ Law, but Does Not See the Handwriting on the Wall), and the Obama Administration’s decision to want to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (see Obama Announces He Wants to Repeal Defense of Marriage Act and Increase Debt) as important factors in what is happening. But all of those, as well as the promotion of violence in the U.S.A. (including certain sports), as well as other sins, are factors behind what is happening.

Keeping the Ten Commandments reflects love. Breaking them and/or condoning those that do is evil. This should be clear to those who believe the God of the Bible.

Greek 2 Euro Coin Shows Europa Riding the Beast

Many in Europe are expressing discontent with Britain because its views on handling the Eurozone crisis:

Following David Cameron’s veto of EU treaty reform, there is plenty of frustration in Europe over Britain’s stubborn attitude in the battle against the debt crisis. Prominent members of the European Parliament have strongly criticized the British prime minister and sent him a clear message: Europe doesn’t need you…

“It was a mistake to admit the British into the European Union,” said Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, a prominent German MEP with the business-friendly Free Democrats, and vice chair of ALDE, the liberal block in the European Parliament. The UK must now renegotiate its relationship with the EU, he said. “Either they do it by themselves, or the EU will be founded anew — without Great Britain,” Lambsdorff said.  http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/0,1518,802823,00.html

The European Union on Thursday night dropped the hypocrisy. No longer is harmony the overriding goal. That, though, means that Great Britain may no longer have a place at the table. London must decide whether it wants to remain part of Europe or not…

The European Union has divided itself in the face of crisis. On the one side is the common currency union, which is following the Franco-German desire to grow together as a way to finally get the euro crisis under control.  On the other side is the United Kingdom, standing petulantly alone, no longer wanting to play. http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/0,1518,802728,00.html

Of course, Hungary was not particularly supportive of the plan, but that seems to be overlooked for various reasons, including the fact that the EU leadership probably believes that Hungary would be able to be persuaded better than the United Kingdom could be.  We in the Living Church of God (including prior to LCG’s actual formation) have long taught that the UK would not be part of the final power that has been developing in Europe:

Interestingly, the Bible indicates that Britain will NOT be part of this final Roman system. Even now, there are misgivings among the British leadership and among the population at large about the approach to a complete union with Europe. (Meredith RC. Is the “Beast” Awakening? The English-speaking nations will not prosper for long in connection with this system, however. In fact, they will ultimately be overpowered and destroyed by it militarily. Prior to military attack and occupation, devastating weather problems, combined with internal civil strife (“tumults in the midst” cf. Ephraim (modern Great Britain) will not be part of the “Beast” power, so we can expect some significant change that will push the British out of the EU. (Davis. D. Ireland says “No!” to EU power grab. LCG Commentary, July, 1 2008)

Perhaps it should be mentioned that the general position within the Churches of God is that Britain will not remain in the EU and will pull out at some point. (Thiel B. It should be understood that ultimately, Britain will NOT thrive as part of the EU but will be taken over by the final European Beast power–yet its former Prime Minister is promoting something that will not help the peoples of the UK. Bible prophecy clearly shows that Britain will not be one of the TEN NATIONS comprising the final United States of Europe (McNair R. A Strong United Europe. Tomorrow’s World, February 1970, p. 17).

These recent news items are supportive of our views here.  The United Kingdom, as is, will not be part of the ten kingdoms (individual nations and/or groups of nations) that will give their power to the Beast in Revelation 17 (the UK’s power will ultimately be taken away).

Euro crisis: US General Martin Dempsey warns of unrest

The top US military commander, Gen Martin Dempsey, says he is concerned about “the potential for civil unrest” as Europe’s financial crisis unfolds.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-16122887

I have been warning for a couple of years now that Europe will face civil unrest.  This may include riots and even something resembling a civil war.  But according to the Bible, despite its fragility (Daniel 2:41-43), it will reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13) and become the dominant Beast power at the end, for a while (Revelation 13:3-4).  It will also eliminate the strongest fortresses  (Daniel 11:39), which at this time, appears to be the military might of the USA and its Anglo-allies like Great Britain.

Europe, oddly, proudly displays its ties to an immodest woman riding a beast.  The Greek 2 Euro coin (shown at the start of this post) features an immodest woman, who is supposed to represent the nymph Europa (from whom Europe got its name) riding a beast. And while that story comes from Greek mythology, the Bible mentions the following related to Europe:

3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written:

MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.

7 But the angel said to me, “Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

9 “Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits…18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth. (Revelation 17:3-9,18)

Most theological scholars, including Catholic ones, believe that the city of seven mountains (hills in some translations) represent Rome.

The fact that not only on the Greek coin, but also in front of the EU Council of Ministers Office in Brussels, Belgium there is a large statue of an immodest female Europa on a beast shows that the European Union is not ashamed of its potential ties to these scriptures. Years ago, a Larry Blake sent me several pictures of the woman (Europa) riding the bull (a beast) as symbols of European Union which are linked for additional proof of these ties.

Because the Bible indicates that Europe, and not China, will be the major power at the end, years ago, Dr. Meredith of the Living Church of God wrote:

Many publications have suggested that the 21st century will be “China’s century.” Even though the Chinese are fiercely moving forward, and their progress in developing their industries is obvious, these publications are dead wrong for two reasons. First, the inspired word of God describes specifically how a coming European Union will be the dominant force in this world—obviously within the next several years. Therefore, brethren, I would like to focus your mind on this matter so you can more intelligently “watch” world events along this line as they unfold before your very eyes. In the coming years, you will perhaps even see a revolt of the peasants in the outlying Chinese cities, who have lagged far behind the standard of living afforded those who have moved to Beijing and Shanghai. Plus, the tremendous pollution of the water, air and foodstuffs may bring about massive disease epidemics and other problems for the Chinese.

In addition, distracting wars and other events may— as God chooses to guide it—greatly undermine the material progress now being made by the Chinese. Meanwhile, you will soon see the European Union evolve into an absolutely powerful and dynamic force in the world— ultimately to become the “Beast” as revealed in Revelation 17 in your own Bible!

So the 21st century will not be the “Chinese century!” Rather it will appear to become the European century for a few years, until the magnificent return of Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords. From then on, the 21st century will be, indeed, “Christ’s century!” And all of us who are able to understand the “Big Picture” of world events from God’s point of view should be preparing to help straighten out the appalling degree of suffering, starvation and misconduct we find on this earth today in virtually every nation (Meredith R.C. China-geddon: A China crash will be scarier than Europe

Say you’re at a railway station, waiting for the slow train to eurogeddon. You’ve been told that the eurozone is in deep trouble with all those piles of debt, that it will fall apart inevitably, dismembering the euro and inflicting pain and misery around the world…And then, before you can say PIIGS, a monstrously big train steams in from the other direction on the same track – and knocks you down flat.

China may also have major civil unrest.  And while it will play a major role in the end time, the 21st century will NOT belong to China.  China is having problems, but relatively few have noticed them.  When more, in China really do, watch out.

Much is happening right now to align with the prophetic views that we in the Living Church of God hold.

In its announcement dated 12/09/11, related to its latest Council of Elders meeting, the United Church of God (UCG) reported the following from its Chairman Melvin Rhodes:

Our average U.S. attendance in October was 7,621, with an additional 4,500 worldwide. The number of people attending UCG services each week around the world is in excess of 12,000…

Aaron Dean, operation manager for Financial Services, reported that our finances are better than expected…Our “faith line” was bolstered in the first six months of the current fiscal year by two estate donations…

The Council of Elders and the administration are working together, in a spirit of unity and cooperation, to take a far-reaching look at the guiding principles of the Strategic Plan to make sure the plan accurately reflects the spiritual mission of the church—which is to preach the gospel and make disciples…

As we strive toward our goals, the administration requested the Council consider plans to expand the home office…There are many needs, including a larger and more effective television studio and a bigger meeting hall (which could double up as a permanent Feast site, allowing 500 people to meet). There is also a need to provide additional space for our young adults and ministerial education programs. Initial plans would enhance this area, as well as our media department.Some Council members expressed caution on taking on a loan at a time of economic uncertainty. So after a great deal of discussion, a decision was made to go ahead and hire an architect to draw up plans to give us a more accurate estimate of costs. After seeing more concrete costs, and if the project is approved by the Council in February, the money for it will be included in the 2012-2013 budget for approval by the General Conference of Elders in May. This will also give us time to raise the funds in order to move forward in a measured way. We would appreciate input from you and from our members, and are open to a collaborative approach as we move forward. More information will be forthcoming. We estimate that the final cost will be about two million dollars.

UCG mentioned its telecast in the above, which I left out.   Why?  Well, I, for one, am more interested in its actual received responses or conversions as the result of public proclamation as opposed to the potential reach of its broadcast (which was in the report). Received responses or conversions were not alluded to in the report, though perhaps it will be out in an upcoming edition of the United News.

For those unfamiliar with UCG, it formed as a collection of ministers in 1995 who left the old Worldwide Church of God.  UCG recently lost over 1/2 of its paid USA ministry in 2010/2011, when a former president and certain other leaders left to form a group known as Church of God a Worldwide Association (COGWA).  UCG has had two major  (and several minor) defections in it history, the first major one involving former UCG President David Hulme’s COGaIC in 1998 and then the COGWA split. Both the COGaIC and COGWA splits were claimed to be related to issues of church governance and direction.

Considering how many left UCG in 2010 and early 2011, it has seemingly done reasonably well.  I still await the release of its financial statements for its fiscal year ending 6/30/11 as that may give more statistics related to income, etc.  Normally, like in past years, this would have been out some time ago, and the financial statements may be released soon.

As far as UCG’s direction, UCG has a history of having strategic committees attempting to figure that out.  Thus, having it also occurring now is not a surprise.   UCG, while not making a tremendous amount of new disciples, does not seem to have done any worse in this area since the COGWA split–but I historically would not characterize UCG’s evangelical approach as hot or public proclamation of the gospel as truly a top priority.

Today’s TW News & Prophecy from the Living Church of God has the following:

Embassies close down in Tehran.

Last week, Iranian protesters in Tehran stormed the British Embassy. According to the Geneva Convention, host nations are responsible for the safety and protection of foreign diplomats on their soil, yet virtually no protection or intervention was provided by Iranian security forces. In response, the British Foreign Secretary announced the immediate closure of the Embassy and withdrawal of embassy staff. Additionally, he expelled Iranian diplomats from Britain and closed Iran’s London Embassy. France, Germany, and the Netherlands announced a recall of all diplomats from Tehran for “consultations.” Norway announced the closing of its Tehran Embassy for “safety reasons.” A statement by the British Foreign Minister last week demonstrated the urgency of the situation, “We have now closed the British Embassy in Tehran. We have decided to evacuate all our staff and as of the last few minutes all our UK-based staff have now left Iran” (Yahoo News , November 30, 2011).

Although the Embassy events in Tehran may not be surprising to regular observers of the Middle East, they are interesting in light of Bible prophecy. Daniel anciently prophesied about the events that would occur in the “last days.” Daniel 11 speaks of a tenuous relationship between the King of the North (or Beast power mentioned in Revelation) and a King of the South (a confederation of peoples in the Middle East). As events continue to develop in that part of the world, watch for nations in the Islamic region of North Africa and the Middle East to forge some sort of configuration that will further antagonize Europe and the West. The events occurring in Tehran may well play into this end-time prophetic scenario.

As tensions between Iran and the west escalate, and US politicians call for regime change…

So, some feel that the West is basically looking for an excuse to change things in Iran.  While that may be so, the Iranians seem to have their own plans as well.  Iran’s leaders want an Islamic leader to rise up that all Muslims will follow and have repeatedly made statements showing that they want to make this happen soon.  Some feel that this would be between now and late 2012.

It is possible that the government of Iran may more directly provoke something that it hopes will trigger the rise of a leader, which they call the Imam Mahdi who seems to be the person that the Bible calls the King of the South, very soon–but apparently it is not ready yet.  There is a video, which I viewed, that has clips of Iran’s President Ahmadinejad that essentially shows that Iran wishes to militarily take-over Jerusalem as a prelude to the Imam Mahdi rising up, and that it hopes that the rest of the Islamic world will follow Iran if it takes this step (see Iran’s Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem?).

Events are moving forward in the Middle East, Iran, and other parts of the world for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Some of these events may happen in 2012. Doubling oil prices could have serious consequences, as could regional war in the Middle East.

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg takes advantage of the EU Commission in Brussels for his return to the political stage. Together with the Commissioner for Digital, Neelie Kroes, Guttenberg wants on Monday to launch an initiative for freedom on the internet.

The former rebel and Non-CSU Bavarian State Parliament Gabriele Pauli would like to work in a new party with former Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (CSU).

Regular readers of this page know that I have been following Baron Guttenberg and believe that he is one to watch to potentially be the final King of the North of Daniel 11, the final head of the Beast of the sea of Revelation 13.

I, as well as LCG, wrote back in March of this year that Herr Guttenberg should be watched for possible re-emergence in the political arena.  And this is one more step by him confirming those speculations.  If Karl zu Guttenberg is the one to become the final King of the North of Daniel 11, he will further re-emerge as a force in European politics–this is something that I am now, and have been for some time, watching for.  And yes, I also suspect that he will have some disappointments on the way, but that does not change what I feel may happen with him.

The final Beast will ultimately become the political leader of Europe. And according to the Bible, he will have military abilities (Revelation 13:1-4) and apparently be popular and charismatic (cf. Daniel 7:20,11:21-24,31; Revelation 13:3-5). Baron Guttenberg has displayed confirming characteristics.

He is one we all should watch (cf. Mark 13:37).

The Europeans somewhat have an agreement, except that the United Kingdom does not agree:

But efforts to get unanimity among the 27 members of the European Union, as desired by Germany, failed as Britain refused to go along…

Two countries, the Czech Republic and Sweden, said they would want to talk to their parties and parliaments at home before deciding, said President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, but it seemed unlikely that Sweden would join. Hungary said it wanted to examine the details, leaving Britain isolated…

European Union leaders failed to get all of the bloc’s 27 members to back a change in the EU treaty to tighten their fiscal coordination as a decisive summit in Brussels ended its first day in the early hours Friday.

Eurozone deal leaves Britain isolated

The refusal by David Cameron, UK prime minister, to agree to a full treaty change for all 27 EU members unless there were safeguards for UK financial services caused a standoff in the early hours of Friday morning with Angela Merkel, German chancellor, and Nicolas Sarkozy, French president.

If there is no final deal and the EU has more problems, then those who support will likely have quite negative views for a long time against the UK.

Those of us in the Living Church of God have long taught that the United Kingdom would not be a real part of the final power that will emerge in Europe.  Notice, for example, something I posted a couple of days ago (see UK’s Cameron’s EU Demands and EU’s Rompuy’s Solution):

It seems like, at least weekly if not more often, there are items in the international press that support the view that the UK will not be part of the final European formation as anything like an equal partner, its lands  (like those of the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) will apparently be conquered by this power (cf. Daniel 11:39).

Furthermore, the Bible, in Revelation 17, is clear that the Europeans will reorganize in the future:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

Steps towards this happening are continuing as we in the Living Church of God have long taught–and there will be bumps in the road and problems (major civil unrest, or worse, may occur).

Of course, the Bible is clear that the final European Beast power will not actually be highly unified as it will basically be a combination of strong and weak, or as the Bible more literally states, iron and clay:

41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. (Daniel 2:41-43)

According to Bible prophecy, a European power, despite its fragility, is destined to temporarily be the most dominant force in the world, ultimately conquer the Anglo-descended nations (it is the USA and its Anglo-allies like the UK that have the strongest fortresses of Daniel 11:39), and later come to its end (Daniel 11:45).

But before it is destroyed (Daniel 11:21-44), the final Beast power must come together and get to the place where it has major economic influence.

In its announcement dated 12/10/11, COGWA has the following:

Launching church newspaper! One of the greatest ties that bind a family together is knowing what is happening in the lives of each member of the household. To that end, we are pleased to announce a new publication for the members of our spiritual family, the Church of God, a Worldwide Association.

Beginning in early January, we will begin producing a monthly online newspaper covering the events and news of brethren and congregations around the world. Based on the example of the early Church described in several places in the book of Acts, we have chosen One Accord as the title of this publication. A church newspaper does not create the spiritual quality of “one accord,” of course, but it certainly plays a role in unifying the body when we are aware and informed of our brethren around the world.

One Accord will feature the latest updates of events in the Church, reports from international areas, congregational news, editorials, feature columns and personal announcements such as engagements, marriages, births, anniversaries and obituaries. We will also have annual editions focusing on Feast and camp reports, honoring graduates, etc.

As ones who previously worked together on church newspaper production, Larry Salyer and Elizabeth Glasgow are going to serve as editor and managing editor, respectively.

I have met Larry Salyer once or twice and he telephoned me once in 1998 prior to him helping orchestrate the taking over of the old Global Church of God (we ended up on different sides).

Larry Salyer resigned his media position from UCG  in April 2010 and around November 2010 co-founded a group called COG-America with Leon Walker and Ken Giese. COG-America, a group that admitted that proclaiming the gospel was a low priority, seemed to have been disbanded about when COGWA formed (COG-America is discussed in the article Concerns about Church of God, a Worldwide Association).

Larry Salyer was once the Director of Church Administration for the Global Church of God and was instrumental in its board takeover in 1998 as well as its subsequent dissolving.   He also helped form another group in 1999, that also subsequently dissolved.  Just prior to that dissolution, he led about 10-15% of the old GCG into UCG over a decade ago–and now he is part of COGWA.

While it does make sense for COGWA to produce some literature (even though One Accord will apparently be only online), its choice of editor may or may not be problematic.

COGWA officially formed in December 2010.  COGWA seems to be the largest group to form from the UCG (former UCG President David Hulme’s COGaIC had been the largest breakaway group from it prior to COGWA). Both the COGaIC and COGWA splits were claimed to be related to issues of church governance and direction.

One Accord is focused on COGWA’s own membership as opposed to be a tool for public proclamation of the gospel.  As COGWA finishes its first official year of existence this month, those with it may wish to reflect on the fact that it still has not apparently made public proclamation of the gospel a top priority like it indicated to some that it would.

The current German economics minister, Philipp Rösler of the ostensibly pro-free market Free Democratic Party (FDP), employed somewhat more measured tones, stiffly commenting, “Germany will not let itself to be impressed by the day-to-day and very short-lived judgment of a single ratings agency.”

Investor Jim Rogers Gives Dire Warning on GBTV:

‘That Will Lead to the End of the World as We Know It’…

The USA, of course, will be strongly affected if the Euro collapses.  So, I would be quite hesitant to say that this is part of an official American plot involving credit agencies for this to occur.

On the other hand, some have suggested that the Euro crisis, etc., is becoming part of a plan/plot for those who want a) the EU to be more politically-integrated and/or b) those who want Germany to lead Europe.  Notice the following two items

Ultimately, a new European “treaty” will be needed, as the Bible shows that despite weakness (Daniel 11:41-43) there will be a reorganization in Europe.   The Bible shows that ultimately, a major dictator (and I do not anticipate at this time that it will be Herman van Rompuy) will rise up and rule end time Babylon (Revelation 17:1-13), the final King of the North, European Beast power of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:40).

And while Europe is not yet ready to become the final King of the North, we in the Living Church of God have long taught that it will be–and that this final European leader will be much worse for the USA and its Anglo-descended allies (Daniel 11:39) than what a collapse of the Euro could directly bring.

The president of France is advocating more European Union involvement in the Middle East:

Brussels, Belgium (CNN) — European leaders must band together to save the euro this week, the leaders of the eurozone’s two biggest economies said Thursday, even as the head of the European Central Bank was warning of more bad economic times ahead.

Failure to reach an agreement at a summit in Brussels, Belgium, is a “luxury we cannot afford,” French President Nicolas Sarkozy said.

The Bible tells of a basically European kingdom that will be partially strong, partially weak, and with a fragile unity (Daniel 11:41-43).  The Bible also tells of a time when a European power will reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13) and take various steps that will be against the true Christians as well as the representatives of a compromised form of religion (Revelation 17:14-18), and that Jesus will finally overcome this power (Revelation 17:14).

While I do not believe that we are to the point of fulfilling the reorganization required by Revelation 17:12-13 (there may need to be more civil unrest, riots, etc. first), it seems that a variety of steps will be necessary for the final reorganization to occur.  Some of those steps may even be taking place in high level meetings in Europe taking place today and tomorrow.  Some of those steps, especially if they involve austerity/budget cuts, may stir violent protests in the future.  Violent protests can lead to militaristic leaders rising up, and a major militaristic leader rising up is consistent with biblical prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:39-44; Revelation 13:3-4).

Many events are aligning with Bible prophecy. Jesus said to watch (Mark 13:33-37; Luke 21:36).

NASA scientists have found that many nearby asteroids have the potential to strike the earth:

Over 1900 years ago, notice what the Apostle John was inspired to write in the Book of Revelation 8:10-11:

Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.

A large comet hitting the earth would also seem to have similar effects to that of a medium-sized asteroid. And having something actually hit the earth and do massive damage is predicted in the Bible.  Of course, since NASA was referring to asteroids, so its comments should mainly be considered as indirect confirmation.

Although the biblical Wormwood does not have to be a comet, it sounds more like one than an asteroid.

Why?

In addition to looking like a star falling from the heavens looking like a torch (and an asteroid could possibly do that), comets normally appear with cyanogen. Astronomers state hydrogen cyanide on comets may be their source of cyanogen gas.

Interestingly, the cyanogen gas mixes with water to form hydrogen cyanide, which has an almond odor and bitter taste, and reportedly causes death at concentrations over 5 parts per million.

And thus for Bible skeptics, the fact that before humans had any idea that comets could produce a poisonous bitter water, it is recorded in the Bible. This should be additional proof to those willing to see that the Bible has been inspired by God.

And while comets are still more likely to fulfill the Wormwood prophecy than asteroids, humans still have no real effective way to deal with potential asteroid devastation, and some day, a major object from the sky will strike the earth according to biblical prophecy.

NASA scientists now know that at least 1,000 nearby asteroids could do that, and have long known that certain comets could do this as well.
