TW: ‘Financial Times of London’ on Demise of Capitalism

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

COGwriter

LCG has the following in its latest TW News & Prophecy:

Crisis in capitalism.

In an ongoing series of articles, The Financial Times of London has focused on the demise of capitalism–the economic engine behind Western economies. The articles have noted a “crisis of legitimacy” or a “crisis of confidence” in the long-touted system, due mainly to the financial chaos wreaking havoc on world financial markets. The current crisis gives rise to the big question, “Will capitalism continue or will it be replaced?” Bible prophecies provide a glimpse into the future.

Revelation 18 reveals that a Babylonian system will arise at the end of the age and make nations and peoples very rich–before it comes crashing down. Nations and merchants of the earth will “mourn” over its destruction because “no one buys their merchandise anymore.” These merchants will eventually “stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing” (vv. 3-15).

Ultimately, Jesus Christ will return to the earth and usher in a new economic system based on the laws of God, tithing and the way of give (Isaiah 2:3-4). Those who will not work will not eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10), but the righteous shall never go hungry (Isaiah 49:10; Revelation 7:16). God will not use man’s “isms” (capitalism, communism, socialism, or the like) in His perfect government. Jesus Christ will teach the peoples of the world the only way that leads to peace–a way that is far above the wisdom of man (1 Corinthians 1:20-21).

Many comments from US President Obama suggest that he is working towards the demise of capitalism.  Also, many of the goals of the Occupy Movement in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and elsewhere are clearly anti-capitalistic.

Another financial system starting to arise in Europe and the Anglo-descended nations will not like what will replace Anglo-capitalism in that new world order.

But ultimately, Jesus will come and establish His kingdom with, amongst other things, a proper economic system.

ICG & LCG Report on Government Endorsed Sin

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

COGwriter

In its latest weekly update, ICG’s Mark Armstrong had the following:

When Government Mandates Sin

What happens when temporal laws conflict with God’s Laws? It’s certainly a question that has plagued European civilizations down through the centuries. But it’s one we thought we’d never have to face under the protection of the absolute freedom of religion spelled out in the Constitution of the United States…Now that it has come out that the controversial (yet to be implemented) new health care law forces religiously sponsored clinics and hospitals to provide “birth control” (whatever all that may entail) there has been a real firestorm of consternation, largely coming from Catholic institutions…

Is it any wonder now that outrage seems to be catching fire nearly everywhere as the reality finally begins to sink in that the state (U.S. Government) has put itself in a position of forcing religious institutions to sin. This is but one in a long list of legal rulings and changes in laws that give sinful commissions, formerly seen as crimes, full protection or even special status under the law…The news now has it that the conflict has been resolved, and that insurance companies rather than religiously sponsored entities will be responsible for “reaching out to women” (apparently even employees of religious institutions) to offer them a range of “birth control options.” Whether that will be the end of the matter or not remains to be seen. But it is curious that an attempt to force religious institutions to break God’s law in order to comply with a mandate of the government has now occurred in United States of America…

In California, we’ve just seen the Courts rule in favor of “gay marriage” in contravention of the will of the majority expressed in a recent referendum vote…It is very clear now, that the dictates of political correctness far outweigh the dictates of the Creator. It is also clear that the Constitution of the United States is now regarded as a minor impediment to the agenda of many of our legislators, political leaders and judges.

Today commentary by LCG’s Davy Crockett has the following:

Commentary: The Other Hand

Practices that for millennia were understood as taboo are now portrayed as normal, acceptable, even desirable behavior. Conduct that would have resulted in jail time in most nations just 40 or 50 years ago is now promoted as a “civil right”—with penalties meted out to anyone who would dare to discourage or limit the practice of these newly acceptable “alternate lifestyles.”

Consider the recent attempt by a coalition of health and education groups to establish new sexual education guidelines for students in elementary schools. These guidelines, which call for education to begin before the second grade, aim that by the fifth grade students should understand sexual orientation as “the romantic attraction of an individual to someone of the same gender or a different gender” (Associated Press, January 9, 2012).

Can we appreciate that our society’s main problems are moral at the core? They are the inevitable result of abandoning the principles of living found in the world’s best-selling (but least understood) book—the Bible.

The promoting of abortion (one of the so-called “birth control options”), homosexual marriage, homosexuality, and other sins by government officials is sad.  The US State of Washington passed pro-homosexual legislation earlier this week.

In his latest update, LCG’s Dr. Winnail reported the following:

Western so-called “Christian” nations are certainly under siege from antiChristian forces. Numerous attempts are underway to promote the acceptance of Islamic Sharia law in Western Europe, Britain and America. Atheists want any reference to God eliminated in the public sphere, and homosexual activists are making ever more bold efforts to flaunt and promote their perverted lifestyle in the media, in schools and through legislative and judicial means. Adversaries are increasing and Sodom and Gomorrah are rising again from the ashes of the past—as Bible prophecies have long indicated—because our nations have turned away from God (see Deuteronomy 28:15-47; Isaiah 1:1-10).

Notice also something from LCG’s latest TW News & Prophecy:

The Bible has long noted, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18, KJV). Regrettably, many of today’s leaders lack vision and are motivated by short-term thinking. They are focused on reducing costs and do not consider long-term consequences and lessons of history. Ultimately, this lack of vision will play into the hands of enemies and bring national captivity (Deuteronomy 28:25, 36-37). We are watching the beginning of this cycle now in the Israelite-descended nations of America and Britain.

Of course, it is not just government officials that now encourage sin.  Various forms of “entertainment” are contributing to the moral degradation as well, as do personal lifestyle decisions.  Many have “lack of vision.”

Since the Bible indicates that the Great Tribulation begins as the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7), it is the Anglo-descended nations, like the UK, Canada, USA, Australia, and New Zealand that will experience that first.

And while those nations probably will not repent before its too late, you can. You can be spared from the hour of trial that Jesus spoke of the happens (Revelation 3:10) before His Kingdom comes.

Iran to Announce ‘Nuclear Achievements,’ Saudi Arabia Reiterates its Nuclear Plans

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

COGwriter

Iranian President Ahmadinejad plans to make a nuclear announcement:

11 February 2012

TEHRAN – Iran will soon unveil “big new” nuclear achievements, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday while reiterating Tehran’s readiness to revive talks with the West over the country’s controversial nuclear program…He did not elaborate on the upcoming announcement but insisted Iran would never give up its uranium enrichment, a process that makes material for reactors as well as weapons.  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203646004577216803841921064.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

USA TODAY – ‎11 February 2012
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Iran will soon reveal “very big new nuclear achievements.”

What kind of “nuclear achievements” are unclear.  Iran might point to nuclear power development in a ruse to throw off criticism of its nuclear weapons intentions.  Or Iran could possibly decide to actually admit weapons development, though that would cause it a variety of issues–issues it might not want to deal with yet.

Perhaps it should be mentioned that the President of Iran believes that ultimately it is his special calling to create enough chaos in order to stimulate the arrival of an Islamic leader that he and others refer to as the Imam Mahdi. This leader is supposed to unite Islam and root out problems within its religion. But Iran is not quite ready for that yet, though its leadership believes that the Iman Mahdi has made his presence known (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: World Order About to Collapse, Mahdi Behind it) and it hopes that he will become publicly known soon (see Iran’s Leader Preparing for ‘Armageddon’ and the Imam Mahdi).

For various reasons, the Imam Mahdi sounds a lot like the final King of the South that the Bible foretells (Daniel 11:40-43). And he may be part of a deal that will affect the USA and its Anglo-allies (Psalm 83:4-8). And this will not be good.

Yet, the final King of the South will not be Iran (Iran is basically east of Jerusalem), but apparently Arabic (which includes those of Egypt, Libya, etc.).  Iran’s actions and rhetoric continue to stir up the situation in the Middle East.  So much so, that Saudi Arabia keeps warning that it will have to develop its own nuclear weapons if Iran does.

Saudi Arabia threatens to ‘go nuclear’ if Iran gets the bomb
Feb 10, 2012
  • Saudi sources say escalation imminent if Iran goes nuclear
  • Pakistan expected to supply the kingdom with warheads
  • “Unacceptable to have Iran with a nuclear capability…”

SAUDI Arabia would launch a military nuclear program immediately if Iran successfully developed atomic weapons.

While Riyadh signed an agreement with the US in 2008 stating that it would only pursue nuclear power for civil purposes, the Saudi government is likely to abandon the deal if Tehran had a nuclear bomb…”There is no intention currently to pursue a unilateral military nuclear program but the dynamics will change immediately if the Iranians develop their own nuclear capability,” a senior Saudi source said.

“Politically, it would be completely unacceptable to have Iran with a nuclear capability and not the kingdom.”  http://www.news.com.au/world/saudi-arabis-threatens-to-go-nuclear-if-iran-get-the-bomb/story-e6frfkyi-1226267903352

I have reported in the past about rumors that Saudi Arabia has a deal with Pakistan regarding nuclear weapons.  And while Saudi Arabia is still not publicly acknowledging that they plan to get nuclear weapons from Pakistan, that would likely be the quickest way it could get them.

The fact that Saudi Arabia feels that it will need to have nuclear weapons if Iran has them indicates that the Saudis do not completely trust the military deals that they have with the USA.  They probably learned a lot from last year’s ‘Arab Spring,’ when the USA betrayed some of its long-term allies and supported groups that the Saudis probably figured that the USA should have opposed.

Anyway, nuclear weapons in the hands of the Arab nations may increase their confidence to eventually push against the future King of the North (Daniel 11:40).

On other Middle East news today, a general who supported Syrian President Assad was assassinated today:

Voice of America – February 11, 2012 Gunmen Assassinate Syrian Army General VOA News Syria’s state-run news agency says gunmen have shot and killed a high ranking Syrian military officer in the capital, Damascus.

The situation in the Middle East is tense.  Regional war involving Israel, Iran, Syria, and others this year is a real possibility.  Damascus could become a ruinous heap (Isaiah 17:1).

CG-PKG Ronald Weinland Writes, But Still is Wrong

Friday, February 10th, 2012

VS.

COGwriter

CGPFK/CGPKG’s Ronald Weinland posted the following today that began with:

Around the world the stage is being set for its collapse, which is almost upon us. Over three years ago, the process began that is leading this world into a complete global meltdown, ending in a final world war. In 2008, the world was shaken for a time at the prospect of a worldwide economic collapse.

His “Over three years ago” comment refers to the fact that he falsely claims that the Great Tribulation began on December 14, 2008.  It did not start then, nor has it started yet.

His post also states:

Great effort is being exerted to ignore reality and to instead trust in a false belief about the true economic condition of the United States. Such false hope is about to be dashed to pieces.

While he is correct that there are real economic problems with the USA that most ignore, he has repeatedly given his follower false hope and made statements that are clearly false.  Yet, some still trust in the false belief that he might be right about the Great Tribulation and the return of Jesus Christ, despite the fact he is not.

His post also states:

The dollar is rapidly going the way of ancient Rome…

It is true that the US dollar will someday be worthless, but Ronald Weinland’s track record of predicting the timing has been shown to be lacking.  This is the same Ronald Weinland who declared in a radio interview on December 15, 2007:

A little after April…a dollar bill won’t be worth anything…

It is over four years since he made that false declaration.

His post also states:

For over sixty years, God’s Church has been warning the world about this final power that will come upon the world in the form of ten unified nations in Europe.

The above is not quite factual.  The position is that the Beast power in Europe will consist of ten kings that did not have power before and that they represent ten kingdoms defined in the older literature as ten nations or ten groups of nations.

His post also states:

The primary motivation and zealous focus of Iranian leaders is squarely based upon their fervent Islamic Shiite belief in the coming of the prophesied 12th Imam Mahdi who will usher in Armageddon. Their belief is that the destruction of Israel will trigger “the coming” of the last Islamic Messiah. They believe that they are the ones who will fulfill Allah’s will to aid and help in the fulfillment of these end-time events.

While the above is true (see, for example Iran’s Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem? for some details), and there may be a regional war involving Iran and Israel soon, “Armageddon” will not happen this year.

And according to Ronald Weinland’s other declarations, it must happen between now and May 27, 2012.  “Armageddon” will not happen in 2012.

Here are some of Ronald Weinland’s posted comments last month:

As a matter of other dates that God revealed to me, through Jesus Christ, it was given earlier that Trumpets of 2008 was the beginning of the 1335 day count in the Book of Daniel that leads up to the return of Jesus Christ on May 27, 2012. (January 12, 2012)

January 7, 2012, is another important occurrence for the timing of God’s work and end-time events. This date is an important crossroad in time as it ends a prophetically historic portion of time in Daniel that consists of a prophetic measure of “time” and “times” that began after Trumpets of 2009.

January 8 of this year begins the final “half-a-time” of this full prophetic period known as “time, times, and half-a-time.” That day is the start of the final period of 140 days (half-a-time) that leads up to the very coming of the Messiah spoken of in those same prophecies of Daniel. (January 7, 2012)

Jesus is not going to return for at least several years from now, He is not returning on May 27, 2012, nor did the final half a time begin on January 8, 2012.  God did not reveal any of the information to Ronald Weinland that he posted related to the return of Jesus Christ, the start of the 1335 days, etc.  The more Ronald Weinland writes about his ideas related to dates, the more he is proven wrong.

There is also absolutely no scriptural indication that the Great Tribulation has yet began, let alone began in December 2008.

When will Ronald Weinland’s followers realize that the period since December 14, 2008 has not met Jesus’ criteria as Ronald Weinland has falsely claimed.

In his March 12, 2011 sermon, he claimed.

So, if I’m not a prophet I’ll reason with you accordingly and be open with you about it…

So often for those who do not believe that I’m a prophet, the question is asked, “What will you do if these things do not come to pass?” And I’m going to answer that more fully in this particular sermon today…

So again, some cannot wait for me to say that I am not a prophet, or to say that I am a false prophet. Indeed, no one has long to wait do they? Isn’t that amazing? May 27, 2012 is not too far away and if Europe hasn’t risen by early 2012 and if China does not begin destroying the earth before that date, then the reality would be manifest much sooner, obviously. You don’t have to wait until 2012. (Weinland R. A Final Plea, With Judgment – Pt. 1. March 12, 2011)

Europe has not risen up and China is not destroying the earth (beyond pollution, etc.), thus according to Ronald Weinland, he should: ” acknowledge my sin and pray that God have mercy upon me for being so horribly presumptuous.” Cannot his followers see his blatant errors and refusal to again publicly repent?

Of course, the facts have not stopped those who still follow him (they have stopped some from following him in the past and hopefully when Jesus does not return on May 27, 2012, most of his current followers will wake up to the truth). Ronald Weinland either will publicly repent near then or claim that God has been merciful and given more time–perhaps he will claim one or more new “truths.” But no matter what he says, Ronald Weinland is not God’s prophet nor one of the two witnesses.

Ronald Weinland was a minister in the old old Worldwide Church of God, then he was in the United Church of God for a while. Since then, he has been on his own.

I have been warning about Ronald Weinland for over six years now and have been correct about him being wrong every time I have posted about that. Perhaps his remaining followers will wake up and realize the truth here?  Ronald Weinland has not been right about his dates, and repeatedly has been proven wrong.  He should have publicly repented a long time ago, and should do so now.

The Bible teaches:

20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ 21 “And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’– 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him (Deuteronomy 18:19-22).

Ronald Weinland will also, no later that May 28, 2012 again be proven wrong that Jesus, according to him, is supposed to return the day before.

Jesus will NOT return in 2012.  What will Ronald Weinland write in June 2012 as by then all should again know that he was wrong?

A few articles of possible interest related to prophecy may include:

Concerns About Ronald Weinland’s Church of God-Preparing for the Kingdom of God Ronald Weinland falsely claims to be one of the two witnesses God is raising up, that the Great Tribulation began on December 14, 2008, and that Jesus will return on May 27, 2012. TW: Germany’s Growing Influence

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Berlin Reichstag

COGwriter

Today’s TW News & Prophecy of the Living Church of God has the following:

Germany’s growing influence.

Angela Merkel stated “Time is of the essence,” in appealing to Israelis and Palestinians to push forward in their peace process. On a recent trip to Europe, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas traveled to Berlin to update leaders on current peace developments with Israel. “Abbas thanked the German government for its support, both on a material and political level. The country had helped in the building of Palestinian state institutions and was also in a position to be helpful in the peace process, enjoying good relations with both sides.”

“‘The fact that Germany is a good friend of Israel does not bother us, because Germany is also a good friend of the Palestinians,’ Abbas emphasized. Palestinians understood the historical reasons for Germany’s support of Israel, said Abbas, and they respected them” (Deutsche Welle, January 20, 2012). Germany feels responsible for the Holocaust and it has made it a priority to keep good relations with Israel while also giving economic and political support to the neighboring Palestinians.

God inspired Daniel to write about a coming time when a fragile peace would be made in Jerusalem by a northern European leader. The peace will be cut short when this king of the North is provoked by a king of the South. The king of the North will react by bringing great desolation on Middle East countries aligned with the king of the South (Daniel 9:27; 11:40-41).

With Abbas’ recent trip to Europe, it appears Germany will become more involved in the biblically prophesied attempt to bring “peace” in the Holy Land. For more information about these exciting prophetic events, request our free booklet Fourteen Signs Announcing Christ’s Return.

Well, to a major degree Germany already has emerged as the major leader of Europe. Germany is also making headways with the Arab world:

Merkel Says EU Willing to Tighten Syria Sanctions, Passauer Says

Bloomberg – 09 February 2012

China and Russia were “wrong” to veto a United Nations Security Council resolution backing an Arab League plan to transfer power in Syria, German Chancellor said…

The Bible tells of one or more deals (Psalm 83:4-8; Daniel 9:27; Daniel 11:27) that will involve Germany and the Arab world.  Cooperating with the Arab League seems to be a step towards future deals, despite Europe’s problems (Daniel 2:41-44).

According to Bible prophecy, a European power, despite its fragility, is destined to temporarily be the most dominant force in the world, ultimately conquer the Anglo-descended nations (Daniel 11:39), and later come to its end (Daniel 11:45).

We in the Living Church of God have long taught that Germany (Assyria in end time prophecy) would be the driving force in the end-time European Beast power as well as having a future role in God’s kingdom. Germany has been the main economic engine behind the EU (the Netherlands is also a major, but sometimes overlooked, major economic power there as well).

We believe that over time, Germany will get more and more powerful and that an even stronger union will form in Europe as well as be part of a horrible deal with the Arabs.   Germany keeps taking steps that confirm those beliefs.

Vatican dismisses report of plot to kill the pope as ‘ramblings’

Published February 10, 2012| NewsCore

ROME — The Vatican moved quickly Friday to dismiss newspaper reports of a plot to kill the pope.

“These are clearly ramblings, which are not at all taken seriously. This is madness,” Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office, said in a hurriedly-released statement.

Italian media went into a frenzy Thursday night after Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano published a front-page account of a note sent to Benedict XVI by retired Colombian Cardinal Castrillon, Sky Italia TG24 reported.

The note, written in German, tells of an alleged conversation in which the Archbishop of Palermo, Cardinal Romeo, during a visit to China, claimed the pope was in great danger and an attack was feared within 12 months. Romeo also apparently named the pope’s probable successor as Cardinal Scola, the current Archbishop of Milan.

Romeo told the ANSA news agency Friday that the words credited to him were “entirely without basis.”

There are a variety of rumors about the pope, and at his age he may not have too much longer to live.  Others that I have wondered who could be the next pope include the French Bishop Marc Stenger and the possibly more ecumenical Cardinal Kurt Koch.  Cardinal Angela Scola’s name has come up before as a possibility.

While many within the professing “Christian” world want ecumenical unity, I would suggest that Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and also Protestants should open up their Bibles and see the warnings about a coming ecumenical religion (cf. Revelation 13:4-8).  Catholic, Byzantine, and biblical prophecy all have warnings about where this will lead. And although some of the Catholic and Byzantine ones have a positive view towards this ecumenism, others are negative, and the Bible clearly is negative.

Certain non-biblical private Catholic prophecies suggest that the next pope could be the last one and he could be an antipope.  Based upon where we are likely to be in relationship to the end of the 6,000 years in God’s apparent 7,000 year plan, this seems to suggest that the final pontiff could certainly be the next one.

Syrian Armored Troops Move Closer to Israel, Iranian Says Israel Needs to be Attacked by 2014

COGwriter

Syria, Israel, and Iran keep making the news.  Let’s begin by looking at some of what is happening in Syria:

CNN – ‎10 February 2012
By the CNN Wire Staff (CNN) — Twin blasts tore through government buildings in the Syrian city of Aleppo on Friday…
.

BEIRUT – Two explosions struck security compounds in the Syrian city of Aleppo on Friday, killing 25 people and wounding 175, state media reported, in a major city that has largely stood by President Bashar Assad in the nearly 11-month-old uprising against his rule.

The blasts come as escalating violence between regime forces and an increasingly militarized opposition has raised fears the conflict is spiraling toward civil war.

Israel National News – Feb 9, 2012

According to reports from the Free Syria Army, the Syrian military has moved forces stationed in the southern part of the Syrian Golan Heights closer to Israel.  The Syrian military did not come close to the border with Israel. However, armored forces that were stationed along the Syria-Jordan border, which were recently reinforced, were moved closer to Israel, according to the report

I put those two stories together, because as I have been speculating for some time, it seems that Syria may decide that the best way to deal with the internal problems and protests within its borders is to support Iran further and invade Israel.  The fact that Iran recently put 15,000 of its own troops in Syria (see Syria, Turkey, Russia, and Iran) also suggests that I may be correct.

Speaking of Iran, an Iranian is calling for an attack on Israel by 2014:

Reuters – Feb 9, 2012

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s strategist provided the legal and religious justification for the annihilation of Israel and the Jewish people, in a document published on conservative Farsi website Alef. Reports of the document began to circulate the internet this week.

The document, written by strategy specialist Alireza Forghani, outlined the reasons why, “In the name of Allah, Iran must attack Israel by 2014.”

Claiming to only represent the personal opinion of its author, and not the Iranian government, the doctrine was published on a website believed to have close ties with the Ayatollah.

So, Iran is trying to more and more prepare its people for the idea of a war with Israel.  Such a regional war may happen and may result in a dramatic reduction to Iran’s power–as well as severe damage to the tiny nation of Israel.

Notice something from an article I was sent yesterday:

By Patrick J. Buchanan…

Why have the Iranians not followed through on their threat to close the Strait of Hormuz and begun to dial it back?

War with the United States would be a disaster. Though the Tehran regime might survive — as Saddam Hussein’s survived Desert Storm — Iran’s navy, most of its armor, anti-aircraft and anti-ship defenses, and its strategic missile force would be destroyed, as would much of the country’s infrastructure. Iran would be set back years.

Who, then, wants war with Iran?…

Yet if the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence community are correct — Iran does not have a bomb and has not decided to build a bomb — why should we go to war with Iran?

Answer: Iran represents “an existential threat” to Israel.

But Israel has 200 atomic bombs and three ways to deliver them, while Iran has never built, tested or weaponized a nuclear device. Who is the existential threat to whom here?

And though a U.S. war on Iran would be calamitous for Iran, it would be no cakewalk for Americans, who could become terrorist targets for years in the Gulf, Afghanistan, Baghdad’s Green Zone, Lebanon and even here in the USA.  http://buchanan.org/blog/who-wants-war-with-iran-2-4998

As the above article indicates, Iran may not fair too well in a war with Israel (or the USA).  And since Iran is one of the major military powers in the Middle East and because it will not be the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:40), I have long felt that its military might may be dramatically reduced.  Such a reduction could happen in a war against Israel.

If there is a regional war and Syria is highly involved, then there is a chance its capital will be destroyed as ultimately Damascus will be (Isaiah 17:1)–and that is one reason that I believe supports the idea that Israel may hit Iran hard.  And Israel may suffer enough damage (physically as well as diplomatically) as to make the likely peace deal of Daniel 9:27 a reality.

Events are heating up in the Middle East. “And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:37).

COGWA reports $1.3 million in cash and getting an office

Friday, February 10th, 2012

COGwriter

In its announcement dated 02/09/12, COGWA has the following from its President Jim Franks:

On Jan. 1, 2011, we had only a week of existence and approximately $135,000 in the bank. On Jan. 1, 2012, after the completion of our first fiscal year, we showed an unrestricted cash balance of $1.3 million. Yes, indeed, it was a remarkable year!…

In addition to the good news on the financial front, we have now concluded the lengthy process of locating an office. I am happy to announce the location of our new headquarters office in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We will be leasing an office suite consisting of 5,590 square feet of space on the first floor of the building located at 1301 Central Expressway South, Allen, Texas. Allen is a suburb of Dallas and is located just a few miles north of the city along the Central Expressway (also U.S. Highway 75). The name of the building complex is “The Office Campus at Allen,” and it is in a beautiful setting with easy access to the freeway…

While the location decision was left to the administration, I wanted to make sure everyone agreed with the final selection. Joel Meeker, Leon Walker, Larry Salyer, David Baker, Fort Worth pastor Britton Taylor and I were involved in this review. Jason Lovelady and Clyde Kilough were not present for this final review, but both had seen the properties on a previous trip. Dallas pastor Doug Horchak was out of the country but had also seen the properties at an earlier time. At the end of the day, all present agreed that the Allen property was superior to the others and offered everything we desired at an affordable price (below our budget)…

I hope you are as encouraged as I am by our progress

Officially, COGWA formed in December 2010. Its main three accomplishments since that time seem to have been:

  1. Getting much of the paid US based ministry of the United Church of God to leave and support it.
  2. Accumulating over one million dollars.
  3. Not falling into the type of apostasy that happened in the Tkach WCG/GCI.

Although COGWA has claimed that public gospel proclamation was to be its top priority, it still has not been particularly effective with that. And since the internet is the vehicle it said it would use, I will again comment that its internet effectiveness according to independent assessments like Alexa this morning, is substantially less than the member website known as COGwriter.com, though it has made some progress in that area. I do not believe that COGWA has displayed the type of Philadelphia-era fruits that a Philadelphian Church of God would have demonstrated by this time.

Jim Franks, though alluding to the internet, did not mention the term “gospel” nor using any of the $1.3 million of unrestricted use money for public proclamation–though I believe that COGWA will spend some money in that area.

Those in COGWA who hope to be Philadelphian should consider its fruits and real priorities.

Russian Patriarch Supports Putin

Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill

COGwriter

While many in the West have noticed that Russia’s Vladimir Putin is having political problems, the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church has given him an extremely high endorsement:

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church has called the 12 years of Vladimir Putin’s rule a “miracle of God” and criticised his opponents, at a gathering where religious leaders heaped praise on the prime minister. Putin wants support from spiritual figures for his campaign to win his third term in the Kremlin in a March 4 election…Patriarch Kirill, a bearded cleric seen as a modernising figure in the Russian church, the largest in Orthodox Christianity…Kirill’s speech was echoed by leaders of other faiths.  http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/02/08/uk-russia-putin-religion-idUKTRE81722Y20120208

Whether he regains the Russian presidency or not, Vladimir Putin has repeatedly called for the formation of a Eurasian union (see TW: The Eurasian Union is Coming and Russia Wants It, Russia’s Putin Again Calls for a Eurasian Union and TW on Eurasian Union) that seems to be consistent with a variety of biblical prophecies.

And such a union will be formed, with or without him.

If Vladimir Putin does, in fact, regain the Russian presidency, he is not likely to forget the support he has gotten from Patriarch Kirill.  Perhaps I should mention that although I believe that the Russian Orthodox, for a time, will cooperate highly closely with the Church of Rome, ultimately the Russian Orthodox will end up supporting the coming Eurasian union to the detriment to the powers that will in the end be in Europe.

PCG on Syria, Psalm 83, Iran, and the King of the South

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Gerald Flurry of the Philadelphia Church of God
Gerald Flurry

COGwriter

Joel Hilliker of the improperly named Philadelphia Church of God (cf. Revelation 3:9) wrote the following (Lessons From the Bloodbath in Syria.  February 8, 2012. From theTrumpet.com):

Syria is Iran’s top ally, and the only Arab state at this point openly partnered with Tehran… As the Trumpet has written several times, a divorce between Iran and Syria is coming. We know this because of biblical prophecy, which speaks of two distinct camps emerging within the Middle East in our day. One camp is prophesied to be led by Iran, the other to include Syria. These two are destined to play very different roles in the sequence of end-time events that lead up to Jesus Christ’s Second Coming. (Read about them in our free booklet The King of the South.) The fact that the Iran-Syria alliance—which has been so strong for so long, and has shaped Middle East geopolitics so much in recent years—is under such tension today is deeply significant. Soon it will fracture.

It has been a while since I looked at Gerald Flurry’s booklet The King of the South so, I did so today.  Here are a few comments from the 2011 edition of it:

So the king of the south must arise after Daniel was revealed to God’s end-time Church—to Herbert W. Armstrong. However, many of the specifics of Daniel’s book have been revealed to the Philadelphia Church of God today…

Since the early 1990s, we have believed and taught that Iran would lead the radical Islamist world and be the king of the south. Today Iran is “king” in the Middle East…

The Muslim Brotherhood has taken charge because it’s so organized and so supported by Iran!…Libya and Ethiopia
are also going to be closely allied with Iran!…So you need to watch Libya and Ethiopia. They are about to fall under the heavy influence or control of Iran, the king of the south…

Bible prophecy makes it clear that Iran will be conquered—but not at the hand of America and Britain. These latter two countries are going to fall into social and economic ruin before this prophecy is even fulfilled.

Basically, PCG seems to believe that Herbert W. Armstrong (who died in 1986) should be followed and even though he never taught that Iran was going to be the King of the South, this knowledge has somehow been “revealed” to the self-appointed prophet of PCG, Gerald Flurry.  Gerald Flurry will be proven wrong on many of those points above.  Iran is not the King of the South.

Continuing with his writings, Gerald Flurry’s booklet The King of the South also says:

Let’s look at a Psalm that strongly indicates which countries will be allied with the king of the south. This prophecy lists several moderate Islamic nations that will ally themselves with Assur (Assyria), or modern-day Germany.  …this will happen after Germany and the European Union conquer the king of the south…Psalm 83…The “enemies” are an Islamic alliance with the king of the north, which are about to attack the modern descendants of Israel. The victims are primarily America, Britain and Judah (the little nation called Israel today)…This will be a deceitful alliance.

There are many problems with the above.  First, a deceitful alliance between the Kings of the North and South happens in Daniel 11:27, which is well before the King of the North conquers the King of the South in Daniel 11:40.  Also, the Anglo-powers (the “strongest fortress”) are also defeated prior to this as shown in Daniel 11:39.  Those who cling to Gerald Flurry’s misunderstanding of this will do so to their peril as he is wrong.

Continuing with his writings, Gerald Flurry’s booklet The King of the South also says:

Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia are missing in the prophecy of Psalm 83. Is this because these countries by this point have already been defeated or controlled by the king of the north? Psalm 83 tells us the nations that will not be allied with Iran when Germany and Europe conquer that nation and radical Islam.

Now, I agree that Iran is likely to have been defeated prior to the deal of Psalm 83.  I have repeatedly used the term “neutralized” to describe what I suspect will happen to Iran–this will likely happen because of a war involving Israel and/or political unrest in Iran.

It should be mentioned that the impression that I have from reading Gerald Flurry’s booklet The King of the South and Joel Hilliker’s post regarding Syria is that perhaps PCG believes that Syria is one of the nations that is not defeated by the King of the North and is somehow part of the Psalm 83 alliance, though it that is not actually clear from Gerald Flurry’s booklet.

Anyway, while there will be an alliance between Assyria and the Arabic/Turkish peoples as Psalm 83:4-8 points out and a deceitful deal as Daniel 11:27 shows, Gerald Flurry misunderstands the timing amongst other things.  Probably because he believes his own imaginations have somehow been “revealed” to him.

Time and events will prove him wrong as Bible prophecy disagrees with him on many points.  Including the identity of the final King of the South.  The King of the South will not be Iran.

Some articles of possibly related interest may include the following:

Teachings Unique to the Philadelphia Church of God Simply calling oneself ‘Philadelphia’ does not make one so (see Revelation 3:7-9), nor does Gerald Flurry calling himself “that prophet” or a variety of other titles make it so. This article provides many quotes from this group which tries to look faithful.
