The debate between candidates for the presidency of France made the news:

May 3, 2012

PARIS –  French voters who watched the only televised debate before this weekend’s presidential election appeared to emerge with two impressions: Nicolas Sarkozy, who trails in the polls, did not pull off the clear victory he needed, and Francois Hollande was surprisingly resilient in the bitter back and forths.

Pollsters, meanwhile, were compiling figures about how the debate could influence Sunday’s voting. For months, their studies across the board have suggested that Hollande, the Socialist challenger, is likely to quash conservative President Sarkozy’s hopes for re-election.

Current French President Sarkozy himself has been a leading figure for the EU and presuming he does not win this election, he likely will try again later and/or try to get some position within the EU (though he could leave politics for a while first).

By Renee Maltezou | ATHENS (Reuters) – Hundreds of thousands of workers across southern Europe protested against spending cuts at May Day rallies on Tuesday, before weekend elections in Greece and France where voters are expected to punish leaders for austerity.

During his speeches aimed at re-election, French President Sarkozy himself has somewhat played the race and the immigration card.  But so far, not apparently well enough to ensure his re-election.

There are problems in Europe, and shortly after the austerity programs were beginning to be announced (9/5/10, see Civil War in Greece?) I wrote, “Austerity measures in Europe will likely cause civil unrest.”  Things must change in Europe.  Europe will deal with immigration issues and make changes to its economy which (combined with the decline of the Anglo-powers like the USA and UK) will propel it to become truly the leading economic power in the world–though only for a relatively short time.

The Bible tells of a basically European kingdom that will be partially strong, partially weak, and with a fragile unity (Daniel 2:41-43), but that will have a frightening type of economic dominance (see Revelation chapters 13,17,18).  This kingdom will have a religion and it will not be Islam. Europe is prophesied to make a deceitful deal with an Islamic power (Daniel 11:27) and this deal might partially happen because of immigration policies and civil unrest.

The Bible also tells of a time when a European power will reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13). While I do not believe that we are to the point of fulfilling the reorganization required by Revelation 17:12-13, it seems that a variety of steps will be necessary for the final reorganization to occur. Some of those steps, especially if they involve austerity/budget cuts and immigration policies, may stir more violent protests in the future. Violent protests can lead to militaristic leaders rising up, and a major militaristic leader rising up is consistent with biblical prophecy (cf. Daniel 11:39-44; Revelation 13:3-4).

Irrespective of who wins the French presidency, many events are aligning with Bible prophecy.  Jesus said to watch (Mark 13:33-37; Luke 21:36).

Apparently pork from uncastrated pigs tends to smell bad:

If you find the smell of pork revolting, it could be because that’s how you’re genetically programmed to perceive it, according to a new study.

Scientists found that there’s a gene responsible for how a compound in pork smells to humans. The gene determines whether pork smells like ammonia, urine and sweat, or if it smells more like vanilla. The compound, androstenone, is similar to testosterone and found in high concentrations in male pigs…

The researchers noted that the European Union is considering a ban on castration because of concerns over animal welfare, and this debate has rekindled interest in how humans perceive the smell of pork and why two people may smell it differently.

“The data raise the possibility that more consumers will dislike male meat as a result of a castration ban,” the authors wrote.

Although many in the above study did not notice the bad smell, the study was interesting to me, and perhaps other people, who do not eat pork.  The fact that humans were possibly genetically-programmed by God to dislike the smell of male pork suggests that perhaps God tried to send humans a message outside of His word.

Others, of course, like the smell and taste of pork products–and pork products are often smoked or spiced to “improve” the taste.  But the flesh of swine in not an item that the God of the Bible approves of for human consumption.  Notice the following:

8 Also the swine is unclean for you, because it has cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud; you shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcasses.  (Deuteronomy 14:8)

And while many believe that the above was done away by Jesus (it was not, for some details, please see The New Testament Church and Unclean Meats), notice also that in the future God intends to judge idolators and people who eat pork harshly:

15 For behold, the Lord will come with fire
And with His chariots, like a whirlwind,
To render His anger with fury,
And His rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For by fire and by His sword
The Lord will judge all flesh;
And the slain of the Lord shall be many.

17 “Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves,
To go to the gardens
After an idol in the midst,
Eating swine’s flesh and the abomination and the mouse,
Shall be consumed together,” says the Lord.  (Isaiah 66:15-17)

The Bible never indicates that any one should eat pork.

While the pork industry wants to tout the alleged health benefits of pork, various news items have found health risks associated with consuming it (for some details see The New Testament Church and Unclean Meats).  Pigs have always carried diseases that could hurt humans.  Pigs may cause various diseases to break forth.

FWIW, there is no scripture in the Bible that shows that any one called of God in either the Old or New Testaments ever ate pork. Some may be surprised to hear that.

Another group, Growing in Grace International (GGI), is soon to be proven wrong about its misunderstanding of prophecy:

ST. CATHARINES, ONT. — Doris Rosado watches her teenage daughters, Ninette and Kiara Mongrut, get the numbers “666” tattooed on their wrists, beaming with pride. The number typically conjures up biblical symbolism tied to the Antichrist, but this St. Catharines, Ont., family belongs to a obscure Christian sect for which “666” is a positive symbol of their group’s messianic leader…

The group, which they say has branches in five Canadian cities and members in more than 130 countries, believes that on June 30 (or July 1 across the international dateline), their Texas-based leader and his followers will be transformed, said Alex Poessy, the group’s bishop in Canada.

To spread the word, Growing in Grace put up billboards in Toronto this week featuring Mr. de Jesus.

“That day, the body of Jose de Luis de Jesus, who is a human like you and me, his flesh is going to be immortal…. He’s going to be living forever. And that will happen to him, but also his followers.”

But Mr. de Jesus also predicts that the “transformation” will endow him, and his loyal followers, with superpowers, such as the ability to fly and walk through walls, said Axel Cooley, the bishop’s daughter...“The world’s not going to end. What is going to end is the system…. All the governments and the currencies will fall. The new government of the 666 will take over,” she said.

The group’s billboards feature a picture of Mr. de Jesus, with such messages as “666, number of wisdom” or “Countdown to the transformation June 30, 2012.”

The above group (despite the similar name, it should not to be confused with the former Tkach-WCG that became Grace Communion International) also believes that there is no sin (contrary to many scriptures such as 1 John 3:4, though GGI claims one it that misunderstands {Hebrews 9:26} supports their position) and this is sometimes shown on billboards it has around Canada and elsewhere.

According to the Bible, the representation of 666 is NOT a positive symbol and is not one that any real Christian would want to be marked with:

16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.   18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.   (Revelation 13:16-18)

2 So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.  (Revelation 16:2)

2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God.  (Revelation 15:2)

Members of GGI are also tattooing themselves with 666 as a show of affirmation in their beliefs.  Of course, since the Bible warns not only against 666, also against the tattooing of human flesh in Leviticus 19:28, apparently the group members who do this do not believe that any of this is applicable to them.

The reality is that there is no way that these people will be transformed to walk through walls, etc. as they say they will be.  Nor is it possible for the Great Tribulation to begin in less than 60 days.

Without going into all the details, the 1335 days of Daniel 12 would have already have had to start by now, and it has not.  There would need to be a King of the North and a King of the South by now, and there is not.  There are simply too many events that have to happen, some of which are too late for the Great Tribulation to begin on July 1, 2012.

CGPFKG’s Ronald Weinland, who claims that the Great Tribulation began on December 14, 2008 and that Jesus will return on May 27, 2012, is also wrong.  And James Malm, who has put the probability of the Great Tribulation beginning in 2012 at around 70-80% (depending on the pope’s health), is also wrong, as the Great Tribulation cannot begin in 2012.

Of course, the Great Tribulation will come and the establishment of the “666 government” will happen.  But not before at least 2016 or later (though, of course, the main leaders would be expected to currently be alive).   Sadly, the USA and its Anglo-allies do not want to obey God’s commandments and they will experience the “time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7), and it will likely have other “troubles” before then (cf. Mark 13:5-8).

More people are concerned about 2012 than the media normally highlights:

One in 10 people around the world, including nine per cent of Canadians, may be readying their bucket list this year, saying they believe the “end of the world” will come at the end of 2012, according to the results of a global survey.

China topped the list of end-times believers at 20 per cent, followed by several countries at 13 per cent, including Mexico, Turkey and the U.S…

Turkey and the U.S. (22 per cent) reported the highest numbers of those who agreed that the world is coming to an end during their lifetime, followed by South Africa (21 per cent), Argentina, Mexico and Indonesia (19 per cent).

Part of the global anxiety is rooted in superstitions surrounding the Mayan calendar, which was used by the ancient Mayan civilization and ends in December 2012.

(Reuters) – – Nearly 15 percent of people worldwide believe the world will end during their lifetime and 10 percent think the Mayan calendar could signify it will happen in 2012, according to a new poll.

The end of the Mayan calendar, which spans about 5,125 years, on December 21, 2012 has sparked interpretations and suggestions that it marks the end of the world.

Some believe that the last page of the Mayan Dresden Codex pictures the world coming to an end this year via a great flood.  But that will not happen (cf. Genesis 9).

While we in the Living Church of God do believe that this current age will end, we do not believe that it is possible for it to end in 2012.  Amongst other reasons, there are no specific biblical prophecies that tie in with the Mayan December 21, 2012 date. Although many events that are aligning with the end of the world as we know it are occurring this year, the reality is that the world will not end in 2012.

Despite economic and other problems, the end is not yet as Jesus said:

7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:7-8)

While I feel that we are likely in the period that Jesus called “the beginning of sorrows,” the earthquakes and other troubles so far, as well as to be expected this year, are not the end.

But the Great tribulation will eventually come and Jesus will eventually return.

Yet, because many have made false predictions about 2012, many will likely use 2012 as an excuse to scoff at and discount all prophecy.  According to the Bible, that will be a mistake (2 Peter 3:1-13).

It is simply not possible for the world to end in 2012 according to the Bible for the end happen in 2012 (please also see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?). Various scriptures show that the Great Tribulation cannot begin in 2012 (see Can the Great Tribulation Begin in 2012, 2013, or 2014? for more details).

Those who think it will or may, simply have been misled.

Yesterday, I did a follow-up radio interview about my 2012 book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect.  The first time I was on that particular show (in late 2009), world events had already aligned with 6 or 7 predictions in my book.  And yesterday, I mentioned that world events have now aligned with at least 22 biblically-based predictions in my book.  And also I mentioned to her that those related to the fact that the world would not end on December 21, 2012 would also come to pass, because the Bible does not allow for the world to end this year.

Those interested in learning more about events that need to occur, and in what sequence, for the world to end, should consider getting 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect.  Compare what it says to the Bible (and it quotes a lot of scriptures).

More world events will align with properly understood scripture.   Jesus said to “Watch” (Mark 13:37).  And according to what Jesus said to watch for (cf. Mark 13:4-20), the world will not end in 2012.

Not everyone at the US Federal Reserve is pleased with the directions it has taken:

Dallas Fed’s Fisher Not Supportive of Quantitative Easing

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Richard Fisher said he’s not supportive of another round of quantitative easing…“No amount of monetary accommodation will make up for this problem of not dealing with this fiscal cliff,” Fisher said in an interview from Los Angeles played today on BNN Television in Canada. He said Europe’s fiscal and economic issues are a lesson for the U.S. “Monetary policy alone cannot solve problems without proper fiscal policy,” Fisher said. “If we let it go too far as the Greeks obviously did, we’ll end up with riots in the streets in the United States.”  http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-01/dallas-fed-s-fisher-not-supportive-of-quantitative-easing.html

The above should be very sobering.  Another top US economic official is concerned enough to go public–but, he and others that have done so are in a minority and still tend to underestimate how bad things are (they simply do not tend to compare what the Bible shows is in store).

Serious economic and moral changes need to happen in the USA.  But what really is needed is not likely to happen.

Without trying to get into debates within the US Federal Reserve on this, the reality is that the debt in the USA is much more dangerous than most realize. Notice a prophecy from the Bible:

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry…5 Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man… 6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases What is not his–how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’? 7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty. 8 Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you (Habakkuk 2:3,5,6-8).

Now, the USA is not yet to the point that its creditors will rise up suddenly.  I suspect that may be over four years from now. Yet, by failing to make the changes necessary, the USA is certainly setting itself up for sudden destruction.  And it may have more serious protests that the Occupy Movement has thus far been.  Civil unrest is coming to the USA.

Shortly after I wrote the above, I noticed the following:

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Hundreds of activists across the U.S. joined the worldwide May Day protests on Tuesday, with Occupy Wall Street members in several cities leading demonstrations and in some cases clashing with police.

In Oakland, Calif., stinging gas sent protesters fleeing a downtown intersection where they were demonstrating. It was unclear whether police fired the gas, but officers took four people into custody.

Those that do not believe that the USA can have Greek-style riots or worse are in error.

For another reason that might hint why, notice a warning in Isaiah 30:12-13:

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

“Because you despise this word, And trust in oppression and perversity, And rely on them, 13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you Like a breach ready to fall, A bulge in a high wall, Whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.

Of course, more and more, the Anglo-American nations are trusting in policies that encourage and trust perversity.  There will likely be more severe riots before the sudden breaking comes.

The Bible clearly warns that an indebted people (and the UK has possibly the highest per capita debt in the world, with the USA the highest total debt) will be destroyed by people whose language that they do not understand, and that the destruction will be fairly total:

43 The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. 45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed…47 “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. 52 They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you (Deuteronomy 28:42-45,47-52).

The debt situation and moral situation in the USA is serious.  They cannot continue indefinitely and will end in ways that most Americans really do not believe is possible.

While another round of “quantitative easing” (or some similar equivalent to increasing the US money supply) will not spell the immediate end of the USA, it will add another straw on the proverbial camel’s back.  At some point it will all come crashing down in ways that the bulk of American politicians have not truly considered possible.

Last November, I wrote that there may be a resurgence of Occupy protests in the Spring of 2012.   Occupy Wall Street has decided to use “May Day” as sort of a re-invigoration date for their movement as Occupy protests are going on in over 100 cities:

New York (CNN) — Don’t go to work; don’t attend classes; don’t buy anything; don’t do banking; don’t do housework. That’s the call from organizers of the Occupy movement for their general strike on May 1, also known as International Workers Day.

It’s not clear how many people will take part in the day of action. Numerous Occupy websites point to protests and marches taking place in more than 125 cities in solidarity with labor unions and immigrant groups…

“Some of us are anarchists. Some of us are liberals, progressives like me. I want to change things,” said John Steefel, a member of Occupy’s Restore Democracy working group.
