The Muslim Brotherhood has received some US backing in Somalia according to the following report:

President Obama decided this week that the Muslim Brotherhood-linked regime ruling parts of Somalia out of the capital city Mogadishu is eligible to receive U.S. military aid and weapons, sending a memo to Secretary of State John Kerry announcing the new finding and laying the ground work for even more foreign entanglements in Africa. While the decision does not mean American taxpayers will begin sending arms immediately, Obama claimed his administration could legitimately provide military assistance to United Nations-backed Somali authorities under existing U.S. export and foreign aid statutes…

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama took the first step Monday toward providing US military assistance to Somali forces battling Islamist militants, after the easing of a UN arms embargo last month.

There are various ways that Somalia and US aid can be viewed.  The more official view from the US government is that it is supporting “moderate” regimes against terrorists.  Another view is that the Muslim Brotherhood, being less “extremist” than groups like Al Qaeda, has a better opportunity to implement an pan-Arabic confederation known as a caliphate, and hence will more likely assist in fulfilling biblical prophecies about the coming  King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43).

Notice also what someone else says about US involvement in Syria and elsewhere:

Almost two years ago, the New York Times found that “a small number of CIA officers” were secretly working with “a shadowy network of intermediaries” — including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar — to ship arms to the opposition. (New York Times, June 21, 2012)

It has now been confirmed that the CIA has sent large shipments of weapons to Syria via regional proxies since early 2012 at the latest…

Only the fear that they may be unable to control the opposition in Syria — which contains elements similar to al-Qaida — has kept U.S. military aid from being more overt…

The role of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Syrian rebel movement is not without controversy, but it is a major player:

An independent political analyst in Damascus who closely monitors the coalition said he estimated 65 per cent of the bloc is loyal to the Brotherhood, far higher than the humble 10 per cent the group publicly claims.

“A major concern with the opposition is that everything is happening in the shadows, people are not always who they say they are, they do not openly declare their interests and backers,” the analyst said.

“You have people who say they are not allied with any faction but if you look closely, they have links to the Brotherhood. It might be exaggerating to say they are puppets, but there is some real sense of that, of the Brotherhood having proxies working for it,” he said.

In Syria, the Choice is Clear: Assad or Muslim Brotherhood/Al Qaeda

It’s not a choice that we have to make, but anyone backing the Sunni rebels, many of whom are actually foreign Jihadists, has to make it…

The US government supports the rebel side in Syria and has called for the ouster of Syria’s President Assad.  Again, with whatever its reasoning, this will assist the objectives of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni Muslim group that wants to establish an Islamic empire called a caliphate. When Egypt’s current President Morsi ran its official website, it had an article posted that said the following:

What is the Muslim Brotherhood?
The world’s largest and most influential Islamist movement. Founded in Egypt in 1928, the group was originally focused on ridding the country of corrupting secular influences brought by British colonial rule. Over the years, it established branches and affiliates in many countries to promote traditional Sunni Islamic morals, social justice, and the eradication of poverty and corruption. “The Islamic nation,” its charter states, “must be fully prepared to fight the tyrants and the enemies of Allah as a prelude to establishing an Islamic state”—ideally a re-established caliphate, stretching from Spain across the Middle East and Central Asia to Indonesia, to be governed according to Islamic sharia law. The Muslim Brotherhood apparently wants as its top priority a pan-national Islamic caliphate ruled by an Imam. Many Muslims long for the rising up of a leader called the 12th Imam, often referred to as the Imam Mahdi. It will not end up with Spain if I understand certain aspects of Bible prophecy correctly, but the confederation of the final King of the South may go from around Western Sahara and/or Mauritania to Oman (with possible involvement and/or coordination with Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and/or Indonesia).

Not everyone in the predominantly Islamic countries support the Muslim Brotherhood, and some have complained of US President Obama’s support for the group in Egypt (see Muslim Brotherhood taking steps against opposition in Egypt and now somewhat representing Syria).  Yet, the Muslim Brotherhood is gaining influence throughout the Islamic world, and especially in the predominantly Arabic nations.

This is consistent with biblical prophecies.  Notice that the Bible talks of a coming confederation of nations that are composed of peoples from North Africa and the Middle East:

40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. (Daniel 11:40-44, NKJV)

2 ‘Son of man, prophesy, and thou hast said: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Howl ye, ha! for the day!

3 For near [is] a day, near [is] a day to Jehovah! A day of clouds, the time of nations it is.

4 And come in hath a sword to Egypt, And there hath been great pain in Cush, In the falling of the wounded in Egypt, And they have taken its store, And broken down have been its foundations.

5 Cush, and Phut, and Lud, and all the mixture, and Chub, And the sons of the land of the covenant with them by sword do fall,

6 Thus said Jehovah: And — fallen have supporters of Egypt, And come down hath the arrogance of her strength, From Migdol to Syene, by sword they fall in her, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

7 And they have been desolated in the midst of desolate lands, And its cities are in the midst of wasted cities.

8 And they have known that I [am] Jehovah, In My giving fire against Egypt, And broken have been all her helpers.

9 In that day go forth do messengers from before Me in ships, To trouble confident Cush, And there hath been great pain among them, As the day of Egypt, for lo, it hath come.  (Ezekiel 30:2-9, Young’s Literal Translation)

Notice that Egypt is mentioned by name in both Daniel 11 and Ezekiel 30, it will be prominent in the coming confederation. Since Syria is located in the Middle East, the above prophecies appear to be referring to a confederation of mainly Arabic nations that will include Syria. Hence, despite some issues, Syria will end up with some type of Islamic confederation–but one that will not be good for it or its people.  As far as Somalia, most of the Somalis speak Somali, which is a Cushitic language, with  Arabic being the second most commonly spoken language there.

Although several translations of Daniel 11:43 use the word “Ethiopians,” the word translated as “Ethiopians” is the plural of the word Kuwshiy, which according to Biblesoft’s New Exhaustive Strong’s Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary means descendants of Cush. Or in other words, people of dark color–and it is commonly translated as Cush or Cushite in many Old Testament passages–including those in Ezekiel 30. This would thus seem to possibly include the Somalis in the coming confederation.

A coming confederation of Islamic lands is something that the Muslim Brotherhood is hoping to bring to pass.  And, intentionally or otherwise, the US government is assisting that group.

The former president of France made the news:

After a 30-year career in public life Nicolas Sarkozy left the Elysee Palace pledging “never to return”.

But barely a year on the polls would suggest that if an election was held today, the former president would trounce the incumbent Francois Hollande and on the right, he remains the preferred candidate to stand in 2017.

Since May his appearances have been few and far between…In 11 months in office, President Hollande has fallen further and faster than any other president of the modern day Fifth Republic.

A recent poll showed only 27% of the French have any confidence in him President Hollande.

“Don’t forget Mr Sarkozy won almost half the popular vote when he lost the election,” said Edouard Lecerf, of TNS Sofres…Suddenly Mr Sarkozy’s irrepressible, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude, has taken on new allure.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22126213

Well, political winds change, and as the above report shows, Nicholas Sarkozy did not lose by that much last year, so, if interested, he could probably be France’s president again.  But he might have something else in mind (though the French presidency could possibly be a stepping stone) in Europe.

Former President Sarkozy was known for being very pro-European Union (Sarkozy Warns Against EU Failure and Europe Making More Strides Towards Being a United Empire) and sometimes anti-immigrant, (see also Sarkozy: France Has Too Many Foreigners).  He wants Europe to have more influence, and seems to have taken steps in the past to attempt to reduce the economic influence of the USA (e.g. France Proclaims a ‘New World’ Financial Order).

The Bible tells of a basically European kingdom that will be partially strong, partially weak, and with a fragile unity (Daniel 2:41-43). This kingdom will have a religion.  Europe is prophesied to make a deceitful deal with a power in the Middle East/North Africa (Daniel 11:27) and this deal might partially happen because of immigration policies, Middle East conflict, and/or civil unrest.

The Bible also tells of a time when a European power will reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13). While I do not believe that we are to the point of fulfilling the reorganization required by Revelation 17:12-13, it seems that a variety of steps will be necessary for the final reorganization to occur. It will take pro-European unity leaders for this to happen.

Perhaps Nicholas Sarkozy will have significant involvement with some of these events.

A new report has concluded that a lot of  rice is contaminated with high levels of lead and arsenic:

A new study by a team of scientists in the United States shows rice imported from certain countries contains high levels of lead that could pose health risks for infants and children,

Scientists analyzed rice imported into the U.S. from Asia, Europe and South America. They say rice samples from Taiwan and China had the highest lead levels.

Overall, the team found lead levels ranging from six to 12 milligrams per kilogram, with some of the highest amounts in baby food.

The lead researcher, Tsanangurayi Tongesayi, says daily exposure by infants and children to the rice products would be 30 to 60 times higher than levels considered tolerable by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  He says Asian infants and children are at twice as much risk, because of their higher rice consumption.

The imported rice accounts for only seven percent of all rice consumed in the U.S. However, the study says that due to increasing imports, the rice still found its way into U.S. supermarket chains and restaurants, as well as ethnic specialty markets.

Researchers also found significantly high lead levels in rice samples from the Czech Republic, Bhutan, Italy, India and Thailand.

Analysis of rice from Pakistan, Brazil and other countries is still under way.

The study was presented at a meeting of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans.

Caroline Smith DeWaal is with the non-profit Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington. She says rice poses a unique problem as a staple food worldwide.

“Rice is like a sponge for environmental contaminants, like lead or arsenic,” said  DeWaal. “If it’s present in the soil, if it’s present in the water where the rice is being grown, those contaminants are easily absorbed into the rice. ”  http://www.voanews.com/content/us-study-high-levels-of-lead-found-in-imported-rice/1639753.html

Human pollution has affected the air and water, and more and more reports are also pointing out problems with the food supply.  Consumer Reports did a report showing high arsenic levels in rice some time ago, and the arsenic was not limited to imported rice–USA rice had similar problems.

Rice is a major food and is the most widely consumed grain.

Rice and rice products contain arsenic, a known poison and Group 1 carcinogen. There is no safe level of arsenic, but, as of 2012, a limit of 10 parts per billion has been established in the United States for drinking water, twice the level of 5 parts per billion originally proposed by the EPA. Consumption of one serving of some varieties of rice gives more exposure to arsenic than consumption of 1 liter of water that contains 5 parts per billion arsenic; however, the amount of arsenic in rice varies widely with the greatest concentration in brown rice and rice grown on land formerly used to grow cotton; in the United States, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Texas. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is studying this issue, but has not established a limit. China has set a limit of 150 ppb for arsenic in rice. White rice grown in Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Texas, which account for 76 percent of American-produced rice, had higher levels of arsenic, possibly because of past use of arsenic based pesticides to control cotton weevils. Rice from Thailand and India contain the least arsenic among rice varieties in one study. (Rice. Wikipedia, viewed 04/12/13)

A lot of pollution comes from human greed.  Some also comes from ignorance.

The following passage which involves the second coming of Jesus, and comes from the book also known as the Apocalypse, has an interesting statement:

8 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and  great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth. (Revelation 11:18)

Are not massive air, water, food, and other pollution problems part of how humankind is destroying the earth? In a sense, pollution will be a factor in the Apocalypse as the above passage shows.

Jesus will need to return to save humanity from destroying itself (Matthew 24:22).

Symbol of European “Babylon”

The Euro nations are having meetings as they have many financial issues to deal with, as do the leaders of the USA:

European finance ministers will try to reach an agreement on extending rescue-loan maturities for Ireland and Portugal at their meeting in Dublin, Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem said. Irish and Portuguese rescue programs face uncertainty from events like the depositor losses imposed in Cyprus and would benefit from a strong signal of European Union support, Eurogroup Working Group President Thomas Wieser said…

Europe has financial problems, while the USA keeps greatly increasing its own debt (the debt will contribute to the destruction of the USA per Habakkuk 2; see also Habakkuk: His message is for us now).

Europe has tended to have similarities to the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11 (see EU’s Fragile Tower of Babel) and sometimes has used it as a reference as the poster at the beginning of this article shows. The term Babylon seems to derive from Babel and the Bible indicates that the end time Babylon will be European (cf. Revelation 17) (see also the video Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?).

Notice also the following scriptures, which have European (cf. Daniel 7:2-7, Joshua 9:1, 23:4; Ezekiel 47:15) end time prophetic connections:

41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.  (Daniel 2:41-43)

12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.   (Revelation 17:12-13)

They show a fragile coalition that will have to likely reorganize at least two more times according to the Bible.   Europe ultimately will have ten major leaders who will then turn their power over to a single leader.   And there seem to be a lot of reorganization steps on the way before those two reorganizations take place.

How might some of this happen?

In a sermon on July 7, 1984, the late Herbert W. Armstrong explained how he believed Europe would come together:

And I can see now, the event that is going to trigger the formation of the reunification in Europe; the resurrection of the medieval Holy Roman Empire that we’ve been looking forward to that is prophesied to come…

But I believe that some event is going to happen suddenly just like out a blue sky that is going to shock the whole world and is going to cause the nations in Europe to realize they must unite! … Well now I think I can see what may be the very event that is going to trigger…that is the economic situation in the world…

The whole banking structure in the United States is a network all jointed together. But not only that, one nation has to deal with other nations and imports and exports. And so they have to have a means of transforming money from one nation to another. And so the banking structure is international and interwoven…

Now when the financial structure breaks down, all civilization is going to break down…

Despite grumblings from some modern observers, Europe is actually more and more uniting because of the economic crisis.  This does not mean that Europe will not have problems–because it will.  I also expect more civil unrest and rioting before it gets a lot closer together.

Eventually, Europe will end up with a dictatorial leader (Revelation 13)–and one with militaristic objectives. And while now is not quite yet the dictator’s time, despite expected unification problems (Daniel 2:40-43), a major dictator in Europe will rise up (Revelation 13:1-8), Europe will reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13), and become the final King of the North, European Beast power of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:21-44).

And this will not be good for the United States of America (nor the British), and ultimately not the Europeans (Revelation 18:1-8).  The current financial problems, however, will contribute to the fulfillment of many scriptures.

Famous physicist Stephen Hawking realizes that humanity cannot survive another thousand years on this planet:

LOS ANGELES — Stephen Hawking, who spent his career decoding the universe and even experienced weightlessness, is urging the continuation of space exploration – for humanity’s sake.

The 71-year-old Hawking said he did not think humans would survive another 1,000 years “without escaping beyond our fragile planet.”

While he is right that humanity will not make it 1,000 years as is, the solution will come from the third heaven, not the second one which is the area that Stephen Hawking is referring to.  The first of the heavens is the atmosphere of the earth (including clouds), the second is the space and universe above the atmosphere of the earth (Genesis 1:1), and the third is where God’s throne is (2 Corinthians 12:2).

Anyway, it is the return of Jesus Christ from the third heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:16, who will be seen in the first heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:17), who will stop humanity from destroying itself (Matthew 24:22) and then establish the kingdom of God for one thousand years (Revelation 20:4).

Catholic Online reported that Stephen Hawking, also at Cedar Sinai Medical Center (which is in Southern California), publicly stated what he felt was his biggest mistake:

“Why do we exist? Why this particular set of laws, and not some other? I believe the answers to all of these things is M-theory,” Hawking said.

M-theory is an all-encompassing unifying theory that so far remains elusive. It is a theoretical construct that if completed would explain all of the how’s in the universe. I would state that Stephen Hawking’s biggest mistake was to rely on intellectual vanity to the point of foolishness and not serving God as any scientist truly interested in the truth has to realize that the evolutionary theory for the origin of life contradicts biological laws and realities.

His M-theory is a religion of somewhat false hope.  It is true that there is a theory that will explain the universe (it actually is the love of and from God), but Stephen Hawking was always unwilling to publicly admit what science should have told him:

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, (Romans 1:20-23).

The new Pope Francis seems to have had some impact already on reaching what are termed “lapsed Catholics”:

If Pope Francis does not only make statements about the poor, but also gives some of the Vatican’s vast wealth to the poor, that will increase his popularity, not only amongst the poor, but amongst others.  It may assist his ecumenical goals as well.

“I hope a Pope who shows himself so close to the poor and the suffering also shows his understanding of couples who share everything except Communion,” he told reporters. In Germany where tens of thousands of Catholics are married to Protestants, broader permission to receive Communion in each others’ churches is something many people have been seeking for years…

Cardinal Kurt Koch was also present.  He was selected for his position, at least partially, because of his knowledge of Protestantism, presumably to help persuade Protestants to ultimately embrace the Church of Rome–that will take compromise on both sides.  But it is compromise that both sides will ultimately do.

As far as the Lutherans go, they have repeatedly suggested a willingness to compromise, and ultimately most will embrace the Church of Rome at the end.

With Francis now the head of the Church of Rome, his increasing popularity may make this easier for not only ‘lapsed Catholics’ and Protestants to embrace his hoped for unity, but those of the Eastern Orthodox and others as well.

Change is occurring.

How much change?

I watched an interview today from NBC’s Today show, where Cardinal Edward Egan suggested that Pope Francis would bring “tremendous change” to the Roman Catholic Church.  If Francis is the last pope, he not only will do that, but to the entire world (cf. Revelation 13).

But even if he is not the last pope, if he increases the popularity of the Church of Rome, brings about more ecumenical cooperation, and dispenses with certain Catholic practices (which, to a degree, he already has, see ), then he may instead be setting the world up for the last pope.

The US Secretaries of Defense and State are making statements consisting with preparations for war with North Korea:

(CNN) — North Korea has raised at least one missile into its upright firing position Wednesday, raising concerns that a launch was imminent, a U.S. official told CNN Thursday.

This comes as the world continued to keep watch for a possible missile launch by the secretive regime, and just a day before U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was due to arrive in the region.

It’s not known by the United States why the regime did not proceed with the firing.

Taiwan appeared to become the first country to warn its citizens against travelling to South Korea after Pyongyang said that foreigners should leave, but hotels were reporting brisk business…

For over a month, Pyongyang has issued an almost daily series of threats to the United States and South Korea, most recently warning foreigners to leave the South due to an impending “thermonuclear” war.

Apart from the swipe at South Korea’s new president, verbal threats appeared to fall off as KCNA listed arrivals for the upcoming birthday celebrations, naming an eclectic mix ranging from Chinese businessmen to Cold War-era enthusiasts of its socialist monarchy and official ideology of “juche”, or self-reliance…

The North’s rhetoric has pushed the United States, the guarantor of South Korea’s security, to move more military assets into the region in response to the rising threat levels…

China is North Korea’s main ally and it may decide to try to reign North Korea in some, especially since Russia is opposed to some of what North Korea is doing.  China also has concerns about its own international image.

North Korean politicians have often been playing a dangerous game with their country and their people, and hopefully they will realize that a military conflict is not in their interests.

While North Korea is not prophesied to take over the USA (Europe is per Daniel 11:39, etc.), as I wrote in the past, it certainly is possible that it may decided to actually launch one or more missiles at the USA in the future (or take other “terroristic actions; cf. Leviticus 26:26).

If North Korea does take certain steps to sufficiently aggravate , it needs to realize that it likely will no longer exist as it is. At some point in time, I believe that both Koreas will be reunited based upon certain verses in Revelation, yet whether this will be because of a war involving the USA or something else, that is not clear.

As Jesus said, “And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:37)

Should the shaved appearance of some practicing Catholics cause concern?  Is this a Christian practice or did it come from somewhere else.

Wikipedia’s “Tonsure” article states:

Tonsure is the traditional practice of Christian churches of cutting or shaving the hair from the scalp (while leaving some parts uncut) of clerics, monastics, and, in the Eastern Orthodox Church, all baptized members. Tonsure, usually qualified by the name of the religion concerned, is now sometimes used more generally for such cutting or shaving for monks, devotees, or mystics of other religions as a symbol of their renunciation of worldly fashion and esteem, e.g., by Buddhist novices and monks, and some Hindu streams…

The origin of the tonsure remains unclear, but it certainly was not widely known in antiquity. There were three forms of tonsure known in the 7th and 8th centuries…

It is true that for centuries, various monks have shaved the center of their heads to make themselves bald.  But I would like to help make its origins clearer.

First, it seems to have existed for a long time as something like it has been prohibited by sacred scripture for thousands of years:

1 “Speak to the priests…5 ‘They shall not make any bald place on their heads, nor shall they shave the edges of their beards nor make any cuttings in their flesh. (Leviticus 21:1,5)

15 “But the priests, the Levites…20 “They shall neither shave their heads, nor let their hair grow long, but they shall keep their hair well trimmed. (Ezekiel 44:15,20)

Despite what the Bible teaches, various ones who claim some version of ‘Christianity’ (those who prefer tradition over the Bible) persist in this type of practice today. Bald shavings were practices of some pagan priests who were involved in sun-god worship in ancient times.  This may be why God prohibited it.

Irrespective of claims to the contrary, the type of shavings commonly seen were not an original practice of the apostles or those in the early church. Furthermore, even the late 4th/early 5th century Roman Catholic saint and doctor Jerome condemned some versions of it:

Tonsure A sacred rite instituted by the Church by which a baptized and confirmed Christian is received into the clerical order by the shearing of his hair and the investment with the surplice…St. Jerome (in Ezech., xliv) disapproves of clerics shaving their heads. Indeed, among the Greeks and Romans such a custom was a badge of slavery. On this very account, the shaving of the head was adopted by the monks. Towards the end of the fifth, or beginning of the sixth, century, the custom passed over to the secular clergy. As a sacred rite, the tonsure was originally joined to the first ordination received, as in the Greek Church it still is to the order of lector. In the Latin Church it began as a separate ceremony about the end of the seventh century, when parents offered their young sons to the service of God…In Britain, the Saxon opponents of the Celtic tonsure called it the tonsure of Simon Magus. The tonsure originated prior to the time of the apostles. Notice the following references:

The tonsure of the priests and monks is an exact imitation of that of the priests of Isis; (Higgins G. Anacalypsis an Attempt to Draw Aside the Veil of the Saitic Isis: Or an Inquiry Into the Origin of Languages, Nations and Religions, Volume 2. Longman, 1836. Digitized March, 29, 2010, p. 78).

Isis…Her worship advanced over nearly the entire Roman world…The tonsure (shaving of hair from the head) of her priests prefigured that of Christian monks. (Dunstan WE. Ancient Rome. Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2011, p. 465)

the infant Brahmin…in India…In the second or third year, after his birth, the ceremony of tonsure must be performed; this was an old practice of the priests of Mithra, who, in their tonsures, imitated the solar disk. Indian antiquities: or, Dissertations, relative to the ancient geographic divisions, the pure system of primeval theology … of Hindostan: compared, throughout, with the religion, laws, government, and literature of Persia, Egypt, and Greece, the whole intended as introductory to the …, Volume 7. Mithraism had its monks and nuns, as Tertullian admits, with the tonsure in honour of the disc of the Sun. To be shorn of hair is, doubtless, a sign of asceticism ; but it is the form of the tonsure (Khwaja K. The Sources of Christianity. The Basheer Muslim Library, 1924. Original from Oxford University Digitized 21 Dec 2007, p. 100)

Those monks and others who practice the tonsure are following a pagan religious practice that the Bible opposes. This should not be for those that claim to follow the Jesus of the Bible–and He did not have a tonsure either. While the Bible does tell of a shaving of the head related to a Nazarite vow (Numbers 6:18), which the Apostle Paul did once do (Acts 18:18), this was not a permanent situation for display like the practices of ancient pagan priests as various Catholic monks. And the hair shaving came AFTER a period of separation and hair growth (Numbers 6:5)–which is another difference from the tonsure.

The tonsure is in conflict with Leviticus 21:5 and Ezekiel 44:20, and while some may suggest that those prohibitions were done away, Jesus and His apostles did not teach that Christians should attempt to look like pagan priests. And those that do so, give those, such as Muslims, reasons to question and dismiss the whole idea of Christianty.

What most of the world (including Wikipedia) believes represents original Christianity is a compromise with paganism and does not represent the practices of Jesus or His original apostles.  The tonsure should be a sign to everyone that sees it that those who practice it are not being faithful to the Bible or the practices of the early apostles.

The USA is grounding a lot of its air force:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A third of the U.S. Air Force‘s active-duty force of combat planes including fighters and bombers will be grounded due to federal budget cuts, and only the units preparing to deploy to major operations, such as the war in Afghanistan, will remain mission-ready, a top general said Tuesday.

Other units would stand down on a rotating basis, said Gen. Mike Hostage, commander of Air Combat Command at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia.

“The current situation means we’re accepting the risk that combat airpower may not be ready to respond immediately to new contingencies as they occur,” Hostage said in a statement…

Many think that the military of the USA is too strong to ever be beat militarily.  The Bible says not to count on that (cf. Daniel 11:39).  The Europeans are not comfortable standing by as the USA slowly diverts military protection away from them.  Although they have started to respond, they will respond more and the USA will not like what will happen.

I have taught for years that the USA would switch priorities away from military spending, and this is another confirmation.  And while the USA does have some powerful and fascinating new equipment (like the latest naval laser canon, see US navy laser cannon shoots down drone during testing – video), it will later find that it has gaps and problems that few truly anticipated.

Jesus said to “watch” (Mark 13:37).
