The Continuing Church of God is pleased to announce this sermon from its ContinuingCOG channel:

This is the third part of a multi-part sermon series covering the entire Gospel According to Mark. In it, Dr. Thiel begins with Mark 6:1 and covers all the verses in that chapter and the next three. He goes over Jesus being without honor among those who knew Him, the work will be done, the killing of John the Baptist, the feeding of the five and four thousand, walking on water, faith, prayer, tradition, keeping the commandments, signs, and doctrine. Dr. Thiel discusses about a future coming Elijah and some of the late Herbert W. Armstrong’s writings on that subject. He explains what Jesus said about the purpose of the parables. Dr. Thiel goes over a vision that some of the disciples saw as well as discusses and also discusses some of how the analogy of salt applies to the faithful.

Muslim Brotherhood is still around and still plotting for an Islamic caliphate

Muslim Brotherhood

COGwriter

The Muslim Brotherhood is not gone. Today, I visited the group’s website. Under its Q&A section, there was the following:

The International Organization

The Muslim Brotherhood is a group established to promote development, progress and advancement based on Islamic references. Its principles and ideologies have succeeded in convincing many worldwide who have researched much about the movement, its founders and its leaders. http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=29330

So, what is its movement about? What did its founder want?

Notice the following that was once at that same website:

The Muslim Brethren…believe that the caliphate is a symbol of Islamic Union and an indication of the bonds between the nations of Islam. They see the caliphate and its re-establishment as a top priority, subsequently; an association of Muslims people should be set up, which would elect the imam”. (zhyntativ. HASAN AL-BANNA AND HIS POLITICAL THOUGHT OF ISLAMIC BROTHERHOOD. IkhwanWeb, May 13, 2008. http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=17065 viewed 09/22/11)

What is the Muslim Brotherhood?
The world’s largest and most influential Islamist movement…“The Islamic nation,” its charter states, “must be fully prepared to fight the tyrants and the enemies of Allah as a prelude to establishing an Islamic state”—ideally a re-established caliphate, stretching from Spain across the Middle East and Central Asia to Indonesia, to be governed according to Islamic sharia law. (Understanding the Muslim Brotherhood. February 14, 2011. © The Muslim Brotherhood. http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=28019 viewed 11/21/2011)

While the Muslim Brotherhood will not get all the territory it wants, it is likely to end up in some type of confederation with at least most of North Africa and the Middle East. This appears to be a Sunni Muslim goal and is consistent with the territory that the King of the South of Bible prophecy will lead (Daniel 11:40-43). And it has decided that having USA influence can help it attain its goals.

Although because a Muslim Brotherhood promoter (former Egyptian President Morsi) was removed from office and the new Egyptian government basically tried to eliminate it, the group still exists.

What triggered my visiting of its website today, was something that was recently reported about it:

We’ve often heard the familiar refrain after an Islamic terror attack – terrorism is a “perversion” of Islam, and Muslims who commit acts of terror are not truly following the faith.

However, the man who infiltrated the Council on American-Islamic Relations for six months begs to differ.

“We have to accept reality, Sean, and reality is that all these jihadi groups all over the planet tell us why they are fighting,” Chris Gaubatz told Sean Hannity during an appearance on the latter’s radio show.

“It’s interesting to me that all these groups, whether it’s Islamic State, al-Qaida, the Taliban, Boko Haram, al-Shabaab, the Muslim Brotherhood, fill in the blank – how is it that they’re all getting their version of Islam wrong in the exact same way?” …

Gaubatz has witnessed the inner workings of one of America’s largest Muslim organizations firsthand, having posed as a convert to Islam to gain a CAIR internship. He remained undercover for six months, gaining the trust of CAIR’s inner sanctum and collecting more than 12,000 pages of documents and hundreds of hours of video. He exposed CAIR’s role as a Muslim Brotherhood front group in supporting the international jihad movement against the United States.

The full story of his amazing undercover operation was told in the book “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America.”

Gaubatz told Hannity CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood share the same goal as many of the Islamic terror groups.

“The Muslim Brotherhood, which is working to influence our Senate Intelligence, Judiciary and Homeland Security committees, has the exact same ideology as the Islamic State and al-Qaida, which is to establish an Islamic state under Shariah,” he said. “That is why they are fighting the jihad, whether it’s in Manchester, whether it’s in Syria, or whether it’s CAIR influencing our homeland security right here in the United States.” 07/13/17 http://www.wnd.com/2017/07/man-who-infiltrated-muslim-group-islam-is-the-problem/

Notice another report related to the Muslim Brotherhood:

July 14, 2017

A 34-year-old Tunisian ISIS fighter captured by Kurdish forces in Raqaa recently spoke to reporter Jenan Moussa of Al-Aan TV. When asked why he had joined the terrorist organization, the fighter confessed that Ennahda — the Muslim Brotherhood affiliate in Tunisia — had encouraged young fighters to join the jihad in Syria.

It’s not a coincidence, then, that Tunisia had the largest number of foreign fighters in Syria.

This deflates much of the U.S. think-tank and media establishment narrative that the Muslim Brotherhood serves as a “firewall” against jihadist groups: https://pjmedia.com/homeland-security/2017/07/14/captured-tunisian-isis-fighter-confesses-muslim-brotherhood-encouraged-jihad-in-syria/

While the methods of the Muslim Brotherhood are normally not as horrific as the so-called Islamic State, it has similar objectives and will engage in tactics it thinks will help it reach its objective. And its objective is Islamic unity in order to try to make more of the world Islamic.

Regular readers of this page realize that the Bible tells of a confederation of nations in lands that are predominantly Islamic under a leader called the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43). Though calling it a caliphate led by a caliph, this is what the Muslim Brotherhood wants and it has taken steps to encourage its formation.

Now while the Bible shows that this King of the South will be defeated, it should be noted that the USA itself will be eliminated before the King of the South is (cf. Daniel 11:39-43; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).

Since few in Washington D.C. have much understanding of biblical prophecy, various ones have gone along with the type of pan-national confederation that the Muslim Brotherhood has advocated. And this includes its President Donald Trump (though he is not considered to be as much of a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood like Hillary Clinton was).

Some items of possibly related interest may include:

The Future King of the South is Rising Does the Bible teach that there will be a future King of the South in Daniel 11? Is this kingdom rising up now? Did the old Worldwide Church of God (WCG) teach that there would be another one? And who is the King of the South? How will this involve Egypt? Is the final King of the South some type of Arab-Muslim confederation? Can Iran be involved? Is there a group that seems to be supporting the goals of the King of the South? Has the Obama Administration supported the rise of this power? This sermon video answers those questions.
The Muslim Brotherhood and the Rise of the King of the South The Bible tells of the formation of a power of nations that are in the Middle East and North Africa that are part of the final “King of the South” (Daniel 11:40-43) The Muslim Brotherhood wishes to have an Islamic empire with basically the same nations. This YouTube video explains what to expect from such a confederation.
Is There A Future King of the South? Some no longer believe there needs to be. Might Egypt, Islam, Iran, Arabs, or Ethiopia be involved? Might this King be called the Mahdi? What does the Bible say?
The Arab and Islamic World In the Bible, History, and Prophecy The Bible discusses the origins of the Arab world and discusses the Middle East in prophecy. What is ahead for the Middle East and those who follow Islam? What about the Imam Mahdi? What lies ahead for Turkey, Iran, and the other non-Arabic Muslims? Is Turkey going to become Catholic? Is Turkey mentioned in Psalm 83, Daniel 11, and elsewhere in the Bible? This video provides answers.

Pope Francis allies accuse Trump White House of ‘apocalyptic geopolitics’

Friday, July 14th, 2017

COGwriter

The Vatican seems to have endorsed an article indicating that Donald Trump’s Administration is apocalyptic:

Vatican Press Lashes Out At Catholic Trump Voters, Calls Steve Bannon “A Supporter Of Apocalyptic Geopolitics”

July 14, 2017

In a relatively shocking article – don’t forget the Vatican has been extremely outspoken for a man in his office – a close ally of Pope Francis has written in a widely-read Vatican publication attacking Stephen Bannon, the senior White House strategist and lamenting a drift towards fundamentalism among some US conservative Catholics who backed Donald Trump as president. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-14/vatican-press-lashes-out-catholic-trump-voters-calls-steve-bannon-supporter-apocalyp

Pope Francis allies accuse Trump White House of ‘apocalyptic geopolitics’

An explosive article written by two close associates of Pope Francis has accused Steve Bannon, the chief White House strategist, of espousing an “apocalyptic geopolitics” whose roots are “not too far apart” from that of Islamist extremism.

The article in La Civiltà Cattolica, which is vetted by the Vatican before publication, lays out a scathing critique of “evangelical fundamentalism” in the US, arguing that, on issues ranging from climate change to “migrants and Muslims”, proponents of the ideology have adopted a twisted reading of scripture and the Old Testament that promotes conflict and war above all else.

The piece was published just days after evangelical leaders met US president Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House and “laid hands” on him in prayer following discussions about religious freedom, support for Israel and healthcare reform. …

Vatican experts said the article would have had the explicit backing of the church and Pope Francis. Its authors, Antonio Spadaro, the editor-in-chief of the publication, and Marcelo Figueroa, the editor-in-chief of the Argentinian edition of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, are known as confidantes of the Argentinian pope.

Bannon, the former editor of the rightwing Breitbart news website, is Catholic, and while he is only briefly mentioned in the article, the piece undoubtedly takes aim at the Trump White House.  …

The article refers to the controversial evangelical theologist John Rushdoony as the father of today’s American Christian fundamentalism, and calls Bannon an exponent of this philosophy.

“Rushdoony’s doctrine maintains a theocratic necessity: submit the state to the Bible with a logic that is no different from the one that inspires Islamic fundamentalism. At heart, the narrative of terror shapes the worldviews of jihadists and the new crusaders and is imbibed from wells that are not too far apart,” the authors state. “We must not forget that the theopolitics spread by Isis is based on the same cult of an apocalypse that needs to be brought about as soon as possible.”

In contrast, Pope Francis – with his emphasis on the need to build bridges, not walls, and his adamant refusal to conflate Islam and Islamic terrorism – is attempting to counter this narrative of “fear”, the article says.

One Catholic publication, Crux, called the article the “latest chapter in the tempestuous relationship between Francis and Trump”. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jul/13/pope-associates-criticize-american-evangelicals-extremism

So, the Vatican once again has gotten bad press for Donald Trump.

Pope Francis has long been opposed to Donald Trump and, at least indirectly, discouraged Catholics from voting for him.

But is the Donald Trump Whitehouse apocalyptic?

Yes, but not quite in the ways that the Vatican wants to imply.

Actually, in my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse, chapter 8 is titled 20 Reasons Why Donald Trump is Apocalyptic (like his position on debt, Islamic unity, character issues, European issues, military issues).

My use of the word “apocalyptic” is intended to emphatically be biblical (not political), as rooted in the understanding of the prophetic books of the Bible, including the Book of Revelation, also called the Apocalypse. This is consistent with Catholic views, including one espoused in November 2008, by the Catholic Cardinal James Stafford (Stafford, Cardinal James Francis. Cardinal’s Address to Catholic University of America, November 13, 2008.  Catholic News Agency).

The Vatican itself keeps taking steps that are ‘apocalyptic.’

But most of the reasons Donald Trump is apocalyptic differ from those generally espoused by the Vatican.

Yet, Pope Francis’ interfaith and ecumenical agendas, are to a degree, supported by Donald Trump, and are apocalyptic.

One area that both disagree, yet both are apocalyptic has to do with Europe.

Donald Trump has stated that European nations essentially should look out for their national interests above those of the European Union. While that would not seem to be apocalyptic, Donald Trump has made many statements that have offended the Europeans and have driven them further away from the USA as well as closer to each other. That is apocalyptic.

Pope Francis received the Charlemagne prize for promoting European unity last year (see Pope Francis given ‘Charlemagne Prize;’ EU leaders worried about EU’s future). Furthermore, as reported here last week, Pope Francis called for Europe to adopt a “federal structure” (see G20 concludes with increased tension with the USA; Pope Francis pushes for federal Europe). Pope Francis wants a united Europe, and that is truly apocalyptic.

Despite some niceties going on in France between Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron in the past day or so (see France’s Macron wants European treaty changed and hosts the Trumps), we are seeing more in Europe (and that includes the Vatican) that want to turn further away from the USA.

Both Donald Trump and Pope Francis are apocalyptic.

Forbes’ Brexit Monster is the Beast of Revelation
Various ones have been properly convinced that there is a plan for a European superstate. Forbes’ writer Tom Worstall wrote that the Brexit vote was about the United Kingdom “not joining the monster of the European Union to come.” The Bible tells of a Beast monster that will arise in the end times in Europe. Dr. Thiel cites news reports, as well as the Old and New Testaments, to show that the monster many fear will arise in Europe, despite the vote by the British to exit the European Union.
Post Brexit Prophecy On June 23, 2016, the voters of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) chose to leave the European Union. Why are there atheists?

Friday, July 14th, 2017

COGwriter

At the Christianity Today website, an author (Shawn Graves) asked and provided some answers to the question, Why are there still atheists?

A lot of ink has been spilled over whether God exists. Within this context, some theists like to point out that “God has made it plain” that he exists, that “God’s invisible qualities … have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Rom. 1:19-20). They urge us to remember that the “heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Ps. 19:1). In a recent Christianity Today article, Jim Spiegel cites these passages and writes: “This naturally prompts the question: If the evidence for God is so abundant, then why are there atheists?”

Spiegel asserts that for many atheists, it’s not “cool, rational inquiry” that led to their atheism. Rather, in many cases it’s complex moral and psychological factors that produce atheism. For example, Spiegel points to research suggesting that some prominent atheists had broken, defective relationships with their fathers. Others live in perpetual disobedience and rebellion—resisting lifestyle changes required upon adopting theism. And still others confess that they just don’t want there to be a God. Spiegel contends that immorality has cognitive consequences—it impedes one’s ability to recognize that theism is true.

No doubt he’s right. Surely some people accept atheism due in part to such powerful motivational factors. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2011/marchweb-only/whytherearestillatheists.html

Now, actually one of the reasons that there are evolutionary atheists is, believe it or not, in the 19th century various male “intellectual” were looking for excuses to not have to abide by biblical standards of sexual morality. And back then, some of them even admitted that is why they embraced the concept that life randomly evolved without a creator God.

I would also add hypocrisy to the list. The fact that evangelicals, for one example, are more likely to be involved with fornication than the general public, despite biblical admonitions against it, turns people off.

War is another factor. Many non-believers point to religions such as Islam, Catholicism, and Protestantism as major causes of war, which turns many people off to the idea that there is a truly loving God. But of course, all scholars realize that early Christians would not participate in carnal warfare. And in my opinion, this is still true of faithful Christians today (for details, please check out Military Service and the Churches of God: Do Real Christians Participate in Carnal Warfare?).

There are also scholars, for example, like Bart Ehrman, who started out as Protestant but when they learned more about church history, realized that Protestantism simply did not fit with much of the Bible (see also Hope of Salvation: How the Continuing Church of God differ from most Protestants) nor church history (see Continuing History of the Church of God ). And while he may be more of an agnostic than an atheist, the fact that most of what is considered by the world to be Christianity, is not Christianity, and this turns many off of religion (though it does not necessarily make them atheists). Information on genuine Christianity is in the free booklet Where is the True Christian Church Today?

But I would like to add that it is illogical to be an atheist. While there may be many reasons that people may doubt the existence of a personal God, such as the one that the Bible teaches about, the reality is that any that conclude that there cannot be a creator/god are being foolish:

1 The fool has said in his heart,”There is no God.” (Psalms 14:1, NKJV)

One of the reasons that it is foolish to conclude that there is no God is because humans should realize that we are finite beings. No human has been to ever place in the universe, no human has lived forever, no human has been to every possible dimension that may exist in the universe. Since no human has done that, for any human to conclude that there cannot be a god or any type is illogical. Why? Because no human has enough possible proof that God cannot exist. Doing so with limited “evidence” is foolish.

Furthermore, if the laws of bioscience are accepted as valid, one can easily prove that something outside of those laws (God) was necessary for life to begin and to continue. Amino acids simply did not randomly line up, become alive, realize that they had to eat, realize that they had to have a means to eat, immediately have a way to utilize food (like a properly developed digestive system), realize they had to reproduce for survival of life, and have the means to do so. It is illogical to conclude otherwise.

But, despite the fact that some claim to be atheists, God’s existence is logical.

France’s Macron wants European treaty changed and hosts the Trumps

Thursday, July 13th, 2017

Emmanuel Macron, Donald & Melania Trump

COGwriter

The German press reported the following:

13 July 2017

France’s Emmanuel Macron urges more German cash for Europe

Defense, enterprise and education head the list for joint measures after the Franco-German Ministerial Council meeting in Paris. The two countries’ leaders are developing closer cooperation as they look to EU reforms. …

Ahead of the joint cabinet meeting in Paris, Macron had renewed his call for reforms of the EU and specifically the eurozone, saying “the European Treaties will have to be changed some time, as this Europe is incomplete. The question is not whether we change, but when and how.”

The French president has also proposed creating a finance minister, parliament and a common budget for the eurozone, which would require changes to EU treaties. http://www.dw.com/en/frances-emmanuel-macron-urges-more-german-cash-for-europe/a-39666836

Before going further, let me state here that as far as defense goes, the Bible foretells the rise of a militaristic power in Europe (Revelation 13:1-4), that will have a “great army” (Revelation 11:25), and that it will take over the strongest military in the world (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses) as well as a coalition of nations in North Africa and the Middle East (Daniel 11:40-43; see also Is the Future King of the South Rising Up?), before it is destroyed (cf. Daniel 11:44-45; Revelation 17:14; see also Russia and Ukraine: Their Origins and Prophesied Future). The Bible also supports the view that Germany will be a dominant factor (cf. Isaiah 10:5-12; see also Germany in Biblical Prophecy).

As far as Germany goes, notice the following:

The New World Order Takeover Is Very Real… And Will Begin With Germany And China

July 12, 2017

As Bloomberg announces with apparent glee in an article titled “China, Germany Step Up As U.S. Retires From World Leadership,” Donald Trump risks “uniting cold war allies and foes alike against him.” In other words, the future is extreme socialism, the populists are a dangerous and dying breed and globalization marches on without them. The narrative is clearly being established.

The relationship between China and Germany might seem strange, but the two countries are far more alike than many people comprehend. Germany is the industrial and economic centerpiece of the European Union.  China is the economic and industrial pillar of Asia.  China sells itself as a communist society with capitalist hobbies. Germany sells itself as a capitalist society integrating socialist (communist) programs and social justice mantras. In reality, both nations are collectivist hell-holes, but this is exactly the kind of model the globalists want for the entire world. …

Germany’s ambassador to Beijing, in a recent briefing with reporters leading into G20 stated:

“The economic and political dynamic from a German perspective is moving toward the east.”

“The U.S. has left somewhat of a vacuum in the region by abandoning the proposed 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade agreement…”

As I have argued since before the 2016 election, Donald Trump’s job is to be the catalyst for multiple globalist programs which have actually been in the works for decades. Trump is now the excuse for everything. Trump and populism are the excuse for renewed “multilateralism,” the excuse for German and Chinese cooperation, the excuse for a new global currency system and, most likely, the scapegoat for the inevitable final stage of our ongoing economic collapse. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-12/new-world-order-takeover-very-real-and-will-begin-germany-and-china

The USA will one day have a massive economic collapse because of its debt and be taken over (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8). The stage is being set, “but the end is not yet” (Matthew 24:6)–however we are getting closer to the time of the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21; see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2017, 2018, or 2019?). (As far as China goes, check out the article Asia in Prophecy.)

Getting back to President Macron’s comments, it should be noted that the Bible teaches that before Europe becomes the final Beast power and that Europe will reorganize:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

President Macron does not seem to realize where changes in European treaties will end. Of course, neither do other known world political leaders. More on the coming reorganization can be found in the article: Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?

Emmanuel Macron is hosting Donald and Melania Trump:

July 13, 2017

U.S. President Donald Trump is in Paris for talks with his French counterpart and Bastille Day celebrations that will see American and French troops marching together Friday on Paris’ famed Champs Élysées. … President Trump’s aim is to show that his administration remains engaged with traditional European allies. Like Trump, Macron is newly elected and assumes leadership as a political outsider. …

Many French, including Macron, are dismayed by the U.S. decision, largely because France put much work into hosting the 2015 climate change summit and considers the agreement a great achievement. https://www.voanews.com/a/trump-seeks-common-ground-in-france/3942380.html

So, what’s ahead for France and its relationship with the USA?

Despite what will later be said about this meeting between Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron, consider  something that the late evangelist Dibar Apartian wrote over 50 years ago:

A Striking Parallel

There may be a striking parallel between Reuben’s behavior in the past and that of France today. Indeed, in a few years, Reuben’s modern descendants will be at the side of the prophesied “beast” of Revelation when the Anglo-Saxons (the descendants of Joseph) are taken captive. France, like her forefather Reuben, will probably seek a compromise to prevent her former allies – the very SONS of Joseph – from being taken captive by the enemy. But what good will that really do? What good did it do to Joseph?

A compromise never relieves one from one’s own responsibilities. Without a doubt, Reuben loved his brother; he exerted himself in his own ways, through his own human reasoning, to save him. But the fact remains that he ended up by acting like a foe! France today also likes her “kin,” her natural allies. But, unless she repents, France will end up BEING a foe! (Apartian D. France: The Enigma of our Time. Plain Truth, August 1966, p. 32)

Thus, unlike some in groups like LCG, Dibar Apartian realized that some of the Israelitish nations would be part of the Beast and will betray the sons of Joseph (Ephraim and Manasseh; see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel)–meaning the UK (as well as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) and the USA in the end.

The Bible, in the Book of Daniel tells of a military power called the King of the North (Daniel 11:21-44) to come from Europe (not Russia). In Revelation, he is called the Beast of the Sea:

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. (Revelation 13:1-10).

This leader is described as a warring man who essentially changes religion and gets people to ultimately worship him. France will initially support this Beast power. But at least some of Reuben will resist (see Revelation 7:1-5). France itself, will end up with problems from the European King of the North Beast power, after a time.

Ezekiel 5 shows that after the USA and probably its Anglo-Saxon descended allies are eliminated, problems will spread to “all the house of Israel”:

1 “And you, son of man, take a sharp sword, take it as a barber’s razor, and pass it over your head and your beard; then take scales to weigh and divide the hair. 2 You shall burn with fire one-third in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are finished; then you shall take one-third and strike around it with the sword, and one-third you shall scatter in the wind: I will draw out a sword after them. 3 You shall also take a small number of them and bind them in the edge of your garment. 4 Then take some of them again and throw them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will go out into all the house of Israel. (Ezekiel 5:1-4)

Notice that after 1/3 is destroyed by fire (perhaps a reference to nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction), a third struck by other weapons, and one-third will be scattered, then there is other fire and after all of that, “fire will go out into all the house of Israel.” This will affect France.

European and world events are moving in the direction of the prophesied rise of the European Beast power.

Cartwright’s Journal out: 20 year ‘calendar’ anniversary, UCG’s ‘Binity’ and new COE member, 7000 year plan, and Elijah

Thursday, July 13th, 2017

COGwriter

The latest issue (says #196, print date June 30, 2017) of The Journal: News of the Churches of God was just posted online.

There was information regarding The Journal’s anniversary, UCG’s position on the Godhead, UCG’s COE, 7000 year plan, Elijah, and Feast of Tabernacles’ sites.

Here is some of what The Journal reported about its start and anniversary:

20 years since conference helped launch The Journal

BIG SANDY, Texas—It’s been 20 years.

Where has the time gone?

A trusty calendar can help you determine where time has gone and help you keep track of it.

Twenty years ago, in 1997, calendar concerns were in the air in the Churches of God. Two church members, Lawrence Maayeh and Michael Turner, who at the time lived in Plano, Texas, set out to settle the dust in the air about the calendar as part of their their Scattered Brethren ministry.

They presented their conference in a Dallas hotel Jan. 3-5, 1997.

It was their observation that the churches and other ministries wending their way out of the old Worldwide Church of God in the ’90s were sitting on the calendar story, perhaps because they had trouble explaining to the brethren why they should observe the nonbiblical invention of “postponements.”

Postponements are regulations built into the Jewish calendar that can delay for up to two days the beginning of the festival year.

Two comments: The Journal essentially was launched as a replacement of a publication called In Transition, which was discontinued shortly before The Journal began. In Transition, published by John Robinson, was the predecessor of The Journal. Dixon Cartwright did work on In Transition.

Calendar issues still arise these days. Information on the calendar and postpostments can be found in the following:

Calculated or observed calendar? Did Jesus use a calculated calendar? This article addresses this issue that many wonder about.
What are Postponements? This is by the late evangelist Raymond McNair and explains a lot about postponements and calculations.
Hebrew Calendar and “Postponements” This late evangelist John Ogywn writing explains why the most faithful in the Church of God use the calendar that we do and answers such questions as “Did Jesus Observe the Postponements?”

The United Church of God was the subject of two articles on the front page of The Journal. Here is one related to the Godhead:

UCG releases study, conclusions re nature of Jesus, rejects Trinity, Unity in favor of Binity

he United Church of God an International Association (UCG), based in Milford, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio, released several documents in June 2017 that pertain to the church’s opinions and doctrines about the nature of Jesus.

In the documents, the UCG comes down solidly on the side of Binitarians when it comes to understanding what the church’s leaders believe the Bible says about whether God is one, two or three.

Most Churches of God derived from the old Worldwide Church of God founded by Herbert Armstrong think of God as in some sense two.

Mr. Armstrong would sometimes say God is one in that He is one family. But that one family, he went on to say, consists of two beings: the Father and Son. Trinitarians likewise, at least many of them, say God is one, but one God in three persons or hypostases. The Churches of God with origins in Mr. Armstrong reject God as three in that they do not think of the Holy Spirit as a separate person or entity. Rather, most of them say that the Holy Spirit is the power of God, not a separate consciousness.

Complicated matter

Complicating matters in the Church of God movement, Ken Westby and Anthony Buzzard, among others, argued since the 1980s that God is one: He is neither two nor three.

They do accept Jesus as the Son of God and Savior and Messiah, but to them Jesus is not God.

THE JOURNAL , over the years, has reported on what some people call the one-God controversy including Mr. Westby’s and Sir Anthony’s one-God conferences, which ran during Mr. Westby’s lifetime for 13 annual gatherings from 2002 through 2015.

It is not widely known that more than one UCG elder who was in agreement with Mr. Westby about the nature of Jesus lobbied leaders of the UCG to consider changing its doctrine about the nature of Jesus.

Several current and former UCG elders could be thought of as closet one-God believers. But the UCG never seems seriously to have considered the one-God view.

Some of the closet one-God people have since migrated to the Church of God a Worldwide Association, also known as the CGWA or Cogwa.

Still more complicatedly, some in the leadership of the UCG have hinted and in at least one case have explicitly stated the view that neither the Trinity nor Binity nor Unity accurately represents God, that rather there are simply two Gods: the Father and the Son. …

A special E-mailing that went out to elders and other members in June included the UCG’s booklet called Who Was Jesus? The booklet affirms the validity of the view held by Mr. Armstrong, that God is a family with two beings in it. It also affirms that, though “more than simply human,” Jesus was “human in the fullest sense.

One of my longstanding criticisms of The Journal has been its giving the unitarians as much press as it has. As far as UCG and unitarianism goes, UCG dealt with this years ago, but the subject came up again as I reported here a couple of weeks ago (see UCG apparently again dealing with unitarianism). I actually provided biblical anti-unitarian information to UCG’s one-time president Clyde Kilough (now in COGWA) when UCG faced this issue years ago. The Journal had the following related to a UCG leadership change:

UCG gets a new council-of-elders member

MILFORD, Ohio—The United Church of God an International Association (UCG) has a new council member. At the 2017 General Conference of Elders in nearby Cincinnati May 9-11, the assembled several hundred elders elected Dan Dowd, a fellow elder and pastor serving in Milwaukee, Wis., to sit on the council.

Mr. Dowd takes the place of Robin Webber of Bakersfield, Calif.

Those two changes bring the current 12-man-council lineup to the following:

Scott Ashley, Jorge de Campos, Aaron Dean, Dan Dowd, Robert Dick, John Elliott, Mark Mickelson Rainer Salomaa, Mario Seiglie, Rex Sexton, Don Ward (council chairman) and Anthony Wasilkoff.

Victor Kubik, as church president, is not a member of the council.

While I have had contact with several of those council members, I do not recall any with Dan Dowd. Long-time readers of this page realize that I have long had issues with the governance structure at UCG (and well before COGWA formed). Some items of related interest would be:

Kathleen McCann had the following in an article in The Journal:

MILTON KEYNES, England—Most people who anticipate the return of Jesus Christ expect Him to return after about 6,000 years of human history, at the start of the seventh millennium. …

However, on this basis did the ancient Israelites have any awareness of time concluding and an end to human history? Did they make any connection between the Feast of Tabernacles and the “latter” or “last” days? Is it only in recent years that we have made such a link? …

When we observe the Feast of Tabernacles today we observe a festival that takes place at a certain season, but the precise days move slightly backwards or forwards in chronological time.

We also believe that it heralds the seventh millennium in the plan of God for the salvation of mankind.

Did the Israelites before Jesus’ time anticipate a 7,000-year plan of God or that there would be an “end time” of human civilization or history as they knew it? …

While most Israelites in earlier days and Jews in later times would simply see the Feast of Tabernacles as a time of appointment with Jehovah so they could look back on the Exodus from Egypt, it was the later prophets who began to see a connection between the mo’adim of the annual holy days and the ultimate mo’ed or appointed time in the future with Jehovah (Daniel 11:35). Of course, most of the Jews in Jesus’ time would not make this connection, their minds being focused on the loss of kingdom and their longing to have it restored (Acts 1:6). …

Perceiving the future From this study I understand that initially the Israelites did not perceive an “end time,” a time that would bring a culmination to human history. Their reasons for observing the Feast of Tabernacles were to remember the Exodus from Egypt and rejoice before the Lord and with each other, enjoying the abundance that God had given them. However, a perception of the future is to be found in Job and Deuteronomy. It is not until the coming of the ma- jor prophets, after the exile of Northern Israel, that a clearer understanding is achieved, of both a utopian time for human history and a time before that, when world events would come to a climax.

While I am not convinced that MOST people who believe Jesus will return believe He will return at the end of 6,000 years, the 6000 year return is a valid biblical view. As far as WHEN many Jews first understood the 6000/7000 year plan, that can be debated but many did.

Here are specific traditions related to the 6000/7000 year plan from the Jewish Babylonian Talmud:

R. Kattina said: Six thousand years shall the world exist, and one [thousand, the seventh], it shall be desolate, as it is written, And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day {Isaiah 2:11}.

Abaye said: it will be desolate two [thousand], as it is said, After two days will he revive us: in the third day, he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight {Hosea 6:2}.

It has been taught in accordance with R. Kattina: Just as the seventh year is one year of release in seven, so is the world: one thousand years out of seven shall be fallow, as it is written, And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day,’ and it is further said, A Psalm and song for the Sabbath day {Psalm 92:1},  meaning the day that is altogether Sabbath — and it is also said, For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past {Psalm 90:4}.

The Tanna debe Eliyyahu teaches: The world is to exist six thousand years. In the first two thousand there was desolation;  two thousand years the Torah flourished;  and the next two thousand years is the Messianic era (Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Sanhedrin Folio 97a).

And while there are some errors in the above, it appears that there is a six thousand year plan, that the current two thousand years essentially represents the Church/Messianic era, and that a one thousand year period remains. Note: I inserted the scriptures quoted or alluded to above within {} as they are in the footnotes associated with the above.

Christians understood this 6000/7000 year plan as well. Also, according to the Catholic saint Jerome, they felt that the Feast of Tabernacles pictured the 1000 year millennial reign. Here is some of the actual Latin from the Catholic saint and doctor Jerome, with a translation into English following it:

1529…Judæi et Christiani judaizantes… Judæi Christiani…1535-1536… Omnes, inquit, qui relicti fuerint de gentibus quae venerint contra Jerusalem, ascendent per singulos annos, ut adorent regem Dominum exercituum, et celebrent festivitatem Tabernaculorum. Hæc quoque Judei cassa spe in mille annorum regno futura promittunt, cujus solemnitatis istud exordium est: (Jerome, Commentariorum in Zachariam Lib. III.  Patrologia Latina 25, 1529; 1536).

Jews and Christian judaizers…Christian Jews… All, he says, those who remain survivors of the nations that come against Jerusalem, shall go up every year, to worship the King the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of Tabernacles. These also shall hope in, through the hollow devotion of Jews, a thousand years old promise of the future kingdom, whose festival this is the beginning of: (Thiel B. Translation of Jerome’s Commentariorum in Zachariam Lib. III.  Patrologia Latina 25, 1529; 1536)

Jerome himself said, “It is a common belief that the world will last 6,000 years.” Information about the 6000/7000 year plan and the Feast of Tabernacles can be found in the following:

The Journal also had an advertisement from COG-ff’s Don Billingsley that stated the following:

God’s Chosen Instruments— God chose special men over time to fulfill His purpose, such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, followed by His apostles. These were the Real Heroes used by God! Though these imperfect men sinned at one time or another (I John 1:8-10), they repented when they did (Revelation 12:10-11). And for that reason God continued to use them to fulfill His will and purpose with mankind This also includes God’s late apostle, and the Elijah to come, Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong. …

It should be realized by believers of the Holy Bible that some man had to come to fulfill the prophecies of the end- time Elijah (Malachi 4:4-6; Mat- thew 17:10-11)! If one did, what would he restore that Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong did not restore?

Let’s deal with two of the issues above.

First, according to Herbert W. Armstrong’s own writings, he could not have been the prophesied Elijah. Herbert Armstrong wrote this:

Those called into the Church were called not merely for salvation and eternal life, but to learn the way of God’s government and develop the divine character during this mortal life in the Church age…Also Malachi 4:5-6 pictures the Elijah to come at the very end of the Church age (Mystery of the Ages. 1985, pp. 201, 349).

When did he write that the Church age was over? Notice:

At the end of the Church age and 6,000 years from Adam, Christ would return to earth as King of kings and Lord of Lords, ruling all nations, with the saints, for one millennium. (Armstrong HW. What If Adam Had Taken of the Tree of Life? Plan Truth, March 1983)

The “very end” of the Church age was not over 30 years ago! The 6000 years has NOT yet been fulfilled (see also Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?). Since the “very end of the Church age” has not happened, and HWA died in January 16, 1986, his writings support that there must be another Elijah. And he was referring to an individual in the Mystery of the Ages.

As far as the second point, since Herbert W. Armstrong’s death, much has been restored concerning church history, prophecy, and the fulfillment of Matthew 28:19-20, etc. For information related to these matters, check out the following:

Since the above letter, the CCOG site in Canada was finalized to be in Kingston, Ontario. More on sites can be found in the link: Feast of Tabernacles’ Sites for 2017.

As far as The Journal goes, it also had the usual letters to the editor and other advertisements, various comments, and opinion articles. The advertisements mainly seem to be from possibly Laodicean groups and/or individuals (not all seem to be COG) who seem to think that the ads are somehow doing the work of God. More of the real work that the COGs should be doing are in the article The Final Phase of the Work.

The Journal itself is available by paid subscription (though Dixon Cartwright says some subscriptions are free to those who cannot afford it). It tends to have a non-Philadelphian approach to many, but not all, matters.

Joel, the Prophet: Are you ignoring what he prophesied?

Michelangelo’s Imagined Depiction of Joel

COGwriter

Some observe a memorial to the death of the Prophet Joel on July 13th of each year.

Do you know much about what he was inspired by God to write?

Here is how the Book of Joel starts:

1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
2 Hear this, you elders, And give ear, all you inhabitants of the land! Has anything like this happened in your days, Or even in the days of your fathers? 3 Tell your children about it, Let your children tell their children, And their children another generation.
4 What the chewing locust left, the swarming locust has eaten; What the swarming locust left, the crawling locust has eaten; And what the crawling locust left, the consuming locust has eaten.
5 Awake, you drunkards, and weep; And wail, all you drinkers of wine, Because of the new wine, For it has been cut off from your mouth. 6 For a nation has come up against My land, Strong, and without number; His teeth are the teeth of a lion, And he has the fangs of a fierce lion. 7 He has laid waste My vine, And ruined My fig tree; He has stripped it bare and thrown it away; Its branches are made white.
8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the husband of her youth. 9 The grain offering and the drink offering Have been cut off from the house of the Lord; The priests mourn, who minister to the Lord. 10 The field is wasted, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine is dried up, The oil fails.
11 Be ashamed, you farmers, Wail, you vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field has perished. 12 The vine has dried up, And the fig tree has withered; The pomegranate tree, The palm tree also, And the apple tree — All the trees of the field are withered; Surely joy has withered away from the sons of men.
13 Gird yourselves and lament, you priests; Wail, you who minister before the altar; Come, lie all night in sackcloth, You who minister to my God; For the grain offering and the drink offering Are withheld from the house of your God. 14 Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the Lord your God, And cry out to the Lord.
15 Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is at hand; It shall come as destruction from the Almighty. 16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, Joy and gladness from the house of our God? 17 The seed shrivels under the clods, Storehouses are in shambles; Barns are broken down, For the grain has withered. 18 How the animals groan! The herds of cattle are restless, Because they have no pasture; Even the flocks of sheep suffer punishment.
19 O Lord, to You I cry out; For fire has devoured the open pastures, And a flame has burned all the trees of the field. 20 The beasts of the field also cry out to You, For the water brooks are dried up, And fire has devoured the open pastures. (Joel 1:1-20)

Here is something that the late Herbert W. Armstrong said about the first chapter of the Book of Joel:

We have had drought. There was the drought in the Middle West in 1934, and then the invasion of bugs and grasshoppers and locusts and everything in 1935. And many people from Kansas and South Dakota and sections in the Middle West like that, and from Oklahoma and places of that sort came out here to the Pacific coast at that time. My friends, that’s only a forerunner, that’s all. But when it comes in its full force and fury it’s described by the prophet Joel, and also Ezekiel says something about it. It’s described in other places in the Bible. Joel says, that it will be a time when the seed shrivels under the clods, the storehouses are desolate; the granaries are ruined because the grain has failed. How the beasts groan, he said, the herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them. Even the flocks of sheep are dismayed. (Joel 1:17-18) What’s going to happen when that comes, my friends? What’s going to happen? That is the next thing now to occur. That and the flight of God’s own people…

Alright, now then, I was mentioning what Joel says here about this time of famine that’s coming. You’ve had a foretaste of it, you’ve been getting it — that’s only just little driplings like a great downpour of a deluge, a cloud burst that is going to come and you’ve had a few sprinklings of rain. Just a few little sprinkle drops; that’s all. Well, you people that have been getting these dust storms and all this drought that you’ve had, all you’ve had is just a little sprinkling. I want to tell you there’s a cloudburst of famine coming only it won’t be a cloudburst; it’s just the opposite. It’ll be a cloudburst of sun and no rain. Now, here is what we read in Joel again, there’s no pasture for these cattle. Even the flocks of sheep are dismayed. They haven’t minds to think it out or reason about it or anything they’re just going to be — you know their minds are so constructed; God did the thinking and created what brain they have and put it in there that it makes them automatically eat and they know they should eat grass. They should eat the pasture, and here there won’t be any. And they won’t understand it.

Joel 1: 19-20 “…Unto thee, O LORD, I cry: for fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness,” [That’s the fire of the sun and hot days and the weather will be such it’ll just seem like a fire.] “…and flame…” [the very flame of the sun.] “…has burned all the trees of the field…” What are you going to do when there’s no pasture for your cattle, or for your sheep, or your hogs. And, some of you will know what I mean anyhow. And when the trees are burned up. And there’s no fruit. And your vines will be dried up and there’ll be no fruit on vines.

Joel 1:20 “Even the beasts of the field cry to thee because the water brooks are dried up,…” [Your rivers will be dried up, your river beds.] “…and fire…” [that is the fire of the heat of the sun] “…has devoured the pastures of the wilderness…”(RSV) (Armstrong HW. Outline of Prophecy 02 – Famine, Pestilence and Drought. Radio Broadcast)

Famine will come. It may be that the drought that many parts of the USA are experiencing could be a prelude to that.

Here is something from Joel chapter 2:

12 “Now, therefore,” says the Lord,”Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. 14 Who knows if He will turn and relent, And leave a blessing behind Him — A grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God?
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; 16 Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride from her dressing room. 17 Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, “Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?'” (Joel 2:12-18)

Repentance is something that Joel proclaimed was needed and that is still the case today. Notice that he was saying that all, including the religious who felt that they were God’s people, needed to repent and gather together. That gathering together is something that the Philadelphians need to do in this end time–those who do not risk not being protected from the Day of the Lord, etc. (cf. Zephaniah 2:1-3).

Here are some comments from Herbert Armstrong on Joel 2:12-17:

Joel 2: 12-14 “Yet even now, says the LORD…” [through Joel,] “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning: (13) And rend your hearts, and not your garments. Return unto the [Eternal] your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love…. (14) Who knows whether he will not turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, a cereal offering and a drink offering…” [and so on?] Joel 2:17 “With a cry out, “Spare thy people, O [Eternal] make not thine heritage…” [our nation, our people] “… a reproach, a byword among the nations.”(RSV) (Armstrong HW. Outline of Prophecy 02 – Famine, Pestilence and Drought. Radio Broadcast)

Here is some more of what Joel wrote in chapter 2:

28 “And it shall come to pass afterward
That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your old men shall dream dreams,
Your young men shall see visions.
29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

30 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:
Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. (Joel 2:28-31)

According to the Apostle Peter, there was a partial fulfillment of this (Acts 2:16) on the Day of Pentecost c. 31 A.D. (Acts 2:1).

But as verses such as verse 31 will not be fulfilled until after the start of the Great Tribulation, it is logical to conclude that God would still use dreams to sometimes convey parts of His message prior to the start of the Great Tribulation.

As it turns out, dreams had been given to at least three people who later became part of the Continuing Church of God which were essentially fulfilled (see Dreams, the Bible, and the Continuing Church of God).

Yet, most who claim Christianity will not accept that God is using dreams in the 21st century. They do not seem willing to accept those prophecies God gave to Joel. Most do not know the biblical differences between true and false leaders or the signs that GOD says He uses.

Parts of Joel’s message have been at least partially fulfilled and the fulfillment of other parts will come to pass.

‘Breathing New Life Into The Old Phoenix’ in Europe?

Wednesday, July 12th, 2017

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg

COGwriter

A reader in Europe sent me a link to the following:

Breathing New Life Into The Old Phoenix

12 July 2017

I have been watching and digesting developments in Central Europe for a few years now. I have no idea how significant this is going to be from the point of the Global Citizen movement if at all, but it just happens to be an interest of mine, as you can see from myrecent posting about INDECT and KT zu Guttenberg’s disruptive activities.  …

I am most interested in the role the city of Vienna and the German state of Bavaria have taken upon themselves in the shifting sands of power bases …

Is Europe an expanding bloc of nations on and around the continent, or is the future Europe an area confined to the former Hapsburg dynasty? No wonder the general news media are missing the point of what is happening here. …

The heart of Europe is stirring, but can a strong leader revive the ancient roots? Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg remarked more than once: “There is an astonishing lack of leadership in the world”. This Central European region certainly seems to be in need of a strong leader, but its history of one bloody Holy Roman Empire after another doesn’t augur well if a scion of the old Hapsburg Empire were to stand up and breathe new life into the old phoenix. http://globalcitizennews.blogspot.nl/2017/07/i-have-been-watching-and-digesting.html

Europe will end up with a strong leader. The mythological Phoenix is a bird that is reborn. Europe’s rebirth will more than simply a revival of the old ‘Holy Roman Empire.’

The Bible warns about a power in Europe that will appear to have been eliminated by a deadly wound that will rise up:

Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:1-4)

Europe, to most in the USA, looks like a former power that will not rise up to world prominence, but the Bible teaches otherwise.

The mentioning of Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and the old Hapsburg Empire was also of interest.

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg’s mother was a Hapsburg, so by descent, he is as well.

The ancestry of the expected Great Monarch in Catholic prophecy sometimes supports the Baron, but not always. Here is one that partially seem to:

Brother Louis Rocco (died 1840): A Catholic descendant of a German imperial house (Hapsburg?) will rule a united Germany with peace, prosperity and great power, for God will be with this sovereign (Great Monarch?)…A Great Monarch will arise after a period of terrible wars and persecutions in Europe. He will be a Catholic, he will not be a German (by birth?). (Culleton, The Prophets and Our Times, p. 195).

Note: the parenthetical comments with question marks were inserted in the prediction by the Catholic priest Culleton. His comments (which were written about 70 years ago) would point to someone such as the Baron, who is a descendant of the Habsburg/Hapsburg line. As far as not being German, perhaps it does not mean “by birth,” but perhaps could be interpreted to mean that he has a mixed heritage (as do most of the Habsburg line). The Hapsburgs, for a time, ruled over the ‘Holy Roman Empire.’ Also note that the Great Monarch of Catholic prophecy often has traits of the final King of the North of biblical prophecy (see Who is the King of the North?).

Perhaps it should be mentioned that Herr Guttenberg may be like the Phoenix and rise again. Many considered that the plagiarism scandal that he was involved in a few years ago killed his political chances.

Consider the following prophecy about the final King of the North:

21 “‘His place will be taken by a reject, a man spurned and passed over for advancement. He’ll surprise everyone, seemingly coming out of nowhere, and will seize the kingdom. (Daniel 11:21 from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

So, someone who was rejected will rise up. This will be the Beast’s kingdom.

Interestingly, Baron zu Guttenberg  has even referred to himself as a type of a beast:

“There’s no doubt whatsoever that I’m a political animal, a ‘zoon politicon’,” he told Die Zeit newspaper in what appeared to be a carefully orchestrated comeback after eight months away from the spotlight. http://in.reuters.com/article/2011/11/24/idINIndia-60716820111124

“For Aristotle’s zoon politikon there are no persons beyond the walls of the city; outside the city there exist only beasts or gods.” page 169, Urbanization and values, CRVP, 1991, By George F. McLean, John Kromkowski

If Karl zu Guttenberg becomes the King of the North (Daniel 11:36-40), he would also be the final Beast of Revelation.

Many in Europe are looking for a strong leader to one day rise up.

One will, and many in Europe will end up regretting it.

Even if it is not Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.

Fed Chairman to raise interest rates: Can the USA afford that for long?

Wednesday, July 12th, 2017

Source: MichaelPRamirez.com http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-09-17/its-still-debt-stupid

COGwriter

Reuters reported the following:

July 12, 2017

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States is healthy enough to absorb further gradual rate increases and the slow wind down of the massive bond portfolio accumulated by the Federal Reserve during the financial crisis, Fed Chair Janet Yellen said in prepared testimony to be delivered to Congress Wednesday morning.

In what may be one of her last appearances on Capitol Hill, Yellen depicted an economy that, while growing slowly, continued to add jobs, benefited from steady household consumption and a recent jump in business investment, and was now being supported as well by stronger economic conditions abroad. …

Yellen’s appearance comes as the Trump administration mulls whether to replace her when her term ends in February. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-snap-stocks-idUSKBN19W1KE?il=0

Here are some comments from Monday by former US Congressman Ron Paul:

Janet Yellen: False Prophet of Prosperity

July 10, 2017

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen recently predicted that, thanks to the regulations implemented after the 2008 market meltdown, America would not experience another economic crisis “in our lifetimes.” Yellen’s statement should send shivers down our spines, as there are few more reliable signals of an impending recession, or worse, than when so-called “experts” proclaim that we are in an era of unending prosperity. …

Yellen’s happy talk ignores a number of signs that the economy is on the verge of another crisis. In recent months, the US has experienced a decline in economic growth and the value of the dollar. The only economic statistic showing a positive trend is the unemployment rate — and that is only because the official unemployment rate does not count those who have given up looking for work. The real unemployment rate is at least 50 percent higher than the manipulated “official” rate. …

The US economy is already faced with several bubbles that could implode at any time. These include bubbles in student loans and automobiles sales, and even another housing bubble. The most dangerous of these bubbles is the government bubble caused by excessive spending. According to a 2016 study by the Mercatus Center, at least four states could soon join Puerto Rico and Illinois in facing bankruptcy.

Of course, the mother of all government bubbles is the federal spending bubble. Despite claims of both defenders and critics of the president’s budget, neither President Trump nor the Republican Congress have any plans for, or interest in, reducing spending in any area. Even the so-called cuts in Medicare and other entitlement programs that have generated such hysterics are not real cuts, but “reductions in the rate of growth.” …

If Congress continues to increase spending and the Federal Reserve continues to facilitate that spending by monetizing the debt, Americans will face an economic crisis more severe than the Great Depression. The crisis will likely result from a rejection of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. http://www.ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/featured-articles/2017/july/10/janet-yellen-false-prophet-of-prosperity/

The USA will one day face an economic crisis worse than the Great Depression and its dollar will be rejected as the world’s reserve currency. That crisis will be even more devastating than what Ron Paul alludes to.

As far as Donald Trump and the USA being a debtor goes, notice some items items about that in my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse:

As president, Donald Trump will have to deal with the fact that the U.S.A. is the most indebted nation in the history of humanity and that in 2017 Republicans proposed a plan that could increase that debt by $9-10 trillion through 2026. (Nicholson J. Senate GOP’s FY 2017 Budget Deficit, Debt Red Ink Exceed Obama’s Budget. Bloomberg BNA, January 5, 2017)

Debt is a prophesied problem (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).

The time will come when the U.S.A. government will no longer be able to borrow at low interest rates and/or it will create more money electronically and/or via the printing press to try to continue.

Make no mistake about it — massive inflation is coming.

The U.S.A. dollar will ultimately crash and be worthless. That “pride” of American power will be broken (cf. Leviticus 26:19). …

Donald Trump loves debt. Here is something he said about it in 2016:

I’m the king of debt. I love debt. (Egan M. Donald Trump: ‘I’m the king of debt.’ CNN, May 7, 2016)

There was about $20 trillion of recognized US government debt before Donald Trump took office.

He plans to increase that total. Some think his stated policies will add around $10 trillion to that total. (Matthews C. Donald Trump Calls for Exploding the National Debt. Fortune, August 11, 2016)

This is dangerous. Consider also that Donald Trump said because interest rates are “so low”:

[T]his is the time to borrow, and to borrow long term, so that we can have money to rebuild our infrastructure. (Matthews C. Donald Trump Calls for Exploding the National Debt. Fortune, August 11, 2016)

Donald Trump also said:

I have borrowed, knowing that you can pay back with discounts. And I have done very well with debt. Now, of course, I was swashbuckling, and it did well for me and it was good for me and all that. …

Now we’re in a different situation with a country, but I would borrow knowing that if the economy crashed you could make a deal. And if the economy was good it was good so therefore you can’t lose. …

I don’t want to renegotiate the bonds, but I think you can do discounting. … I’m not even suggesting that we don’t borrow money at very low rates long term so we don’t have to worry about when they come due. (Kurtzleben D. Donald Trump’s Messy Ideas For Handling The National Debt, Explained. NPR, May 9, 2016)

Nobody knows debt better than me. I’ve made a fortune by using debt and if things don’t work out, I renegotiate the debt. Well, you go back and you say, ‘hey, guess what? The economy just crashed. I’m going to give you back half. ( “Trump recession”? Presumptive GOP nominee fires back at Clinton. CBS, June 22, 2016)

It sounds like Donald Trump believes that debt is good and there is nothing wrong with defaulting or otherwise not intending to pay the total debt back.

The Bible says the wicked have that attitude:

21 The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. (Psalms 37:21)

Donald Trump has also filed for bankruptcy four times (Egan M. Donald Trump: ‘I’m the king of debt.’ CNN, May 7, 2016)—presumably to not pay back debt, while he claims a financial worth around $10 billion.

He may consider that to be ‘good business,’ but his practices and intents sound biblically immoral.

Donald Trump has voiced concerns about interest rates rising in the USA:

If interest rates go up one percent, that’s devastating. What happens if that interest rate goes up 2, 3, 4 points? We don’t have a country. (Egan M. Donald Trump: ‘I’m the king of debt.’ CNN, May 7, 2016)

The rates Donald Trump is concerned about are not outrageously high. On December 14, 2016, the US Federal Reserve announced that it intended a series of four, at minimum of .25% interest rate hikes, which would at least equal one percent (Tankersley J. Federal Reserve raises interest rates for second time in a decade, expects 3 hikes in 2017. Washington Post, December 14, 2016)—the level that Donald Trump has declared would be “devastating” for the USA. (Thiel B. Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse. Nazarene Books, 2017)

Today, Janet Yellen confirmed the intent of the Federal Reserve to increase interest rates.

Furthermore, the USA is planning on massively increasing its debt according to the latest projections from the US Congressional Budget Office (see CBO points to massive debt: Can the depth of a coming financial crisis be known?).

Perhaps it should be added that according to former Senator Tom Coburn, the average millennial is going to have to pay AN ADDITIONAL $1,700,000 EACH TO PAY their share of the debt (see Former Senator Coburn’s take on US debt). And that presumes that interest rates will not rise. That is unrealistic.

Various ideas, agreements (remember the so-called sequestration?) have not worked.

Consider also the following:

12 July 2017

Ms Yellen said she shares concerns about national debt – but that fixing the problem lies with Congress.

“I agree that what you’re showing here represents a trend that, given current spending and taxation decisions, is going to lead to an unsustainable debt situation with rising interest rates and declining investment in the United States that will further harm productivity growth and living standards,” she said. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-40589139

“at some point a government spends big and yields start to rise faster. This could still be many quarters ahead but if and when it does happen central banks might have to intervene and cap nominal yields to avoid carnage in a heavily indebted world. 07/11/17 http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-11/deutsche-once-carnage-higher-rates-hits-then-we-move-helicopter-money

Regardless of one’s views about the direction Congress should take today, everyone should agree that the nation’s present fiscal course is unsustainable. 07/10/17 http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/debt-ceiling-debate-gives-congress-opportunity-to-chart-new-fiscal-course/article/2628212

Something that is unsustainable cannot continue.

The US debt and spending policies will not go on forever.

Ron Paul is correct that Janet Yellen made a false prophecy of prosperity earlier (more on her earlier prediction is in the news post Janet Yellen does not believe that there will be another financial crisis ‘in our lifetimes’).

Sadly, the Federal Reserve, many politicians, and many in the mainstream press seem to love debt. The Bible teaches that debt is one of the curses that happen to the disobedient (Deuteronomy 28:15,44).

Notice the following scriptures:

43 The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. 45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed…47 “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. 52 They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you (Deuteronomy 28:42-45,47-52).

7 The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7)

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry…5 Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man… 6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases What is not his–how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’? 7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty. 8 Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you. Because of men’s blood And the violence of the land and the city, And of all who dwell in it. (Habakkuk 2:3,5,6-8).

9 “Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house, That he may set his nest on high, That he may be delivered from the power of disaster! 10 You give shameful counsel to your house, Cutting off many peoples, And sin against your soul. 11 For the stone will cry out from the wall, And the beam from the timbers will answer it. (Habakkuk 2:9-11)

It is the United States and its Anglo-allies that have loaded pledges of debt in these end times (cf. Habakkuk 2) that they really do not expect to pay back. In that respect, they have recently plundered many nations. And while much is owed to nations such as China, Japan, and the Arab World, the Europeans have trillions of dollars invested in the USA–money they may be disappointed to have devalued, and actually the Europeans seem to hold the most US debt (see EU reportedly the largest holder of USA debt). Enough so that they may divide the land among themselves and other creditors (cf. Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).

The USA does not intend to pay back its debt. Nor, should I add, does the UK, which has one of the largest per capita debts in the world.

Rising interest rates will put more pressure on the USA (and other indebted nations) and will, of themselves, increase government spending, and thus tend towards more debt. The USA (and others) need to change and repent.

While your nation probably will not repent (Anglo or otherwise), you can. Do not wait until it is too late.

Church of Rome and CCOG teachings on repentance and confession

Wednesday, July 12th, 2017

COGwriter

The Bible does say to confess sins, but has the Church of Rome taken this beyond the practices recorded in the Bible or any found in early Christian documents?

What do the Bible and the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) teach?

Let’s start by reading a passage from the Douay-Rheims Bible (a Catholic version, abbreviated herein as DRB):

16 Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much. (James 5:16, DRB)

Notice that this was not a command to confess sins to the clergy.

For those who prefer a more modern version, the following is the same verse from the New Jerusalem Bible (another Catholic version, abbreviated herein as NJB):

16 So confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another to be cured; the heartfelt prayer of someone upright works very powerfully. (James 5:16, NJB)

Both versions teach confession of sins to lay members of the church as opposed to auricular (essentially audible) confession to a priest.

Here is the other time the Bible specifically talks about confessing sins:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he also is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all iniquity. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:7-10, DRB)

The above says that Christians are to confess sins, and Jesus will forgive them. There is no discussion of penance here or in James 5:16.

According to other scriptures, God/Jesus again is the one we are to confess to:

11 For it is written: As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 Therefore every one of us shall render account to God for himself. (Romans 14:11-12, DRB)

1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly vocation, consider the apostle and high priest of our confession, Jesus (Hebrews 3:1, DRB)

14 Having therefore a great high priest that hath passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God: let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we have not a high priest, who can not have compassion on our infirmities: but one tempted in all things like as we are, without sin. 16 Let us go therefore with confidence to the throne of grace: that we may obtain mercy, and find grace in seasonable aid. (Hebrews 4:14-16, DRB)

Notice also the following:

18 And many of them that believed, came confessing and declaring their deeds. 19 And many of them who had followed curious arts, brought together their books, and burnt them before all; and counting the price of them, they found the money to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. (Acts 19:18-19, DRB)

The above people apparently repented of their sins and destroyed certain wicked books, but this was not penance in the sense that the Church of Rome now advocates.

Since the Bible has a different view, than Rome now has, has the Roman Catholic Church changed its position? Well, yes it has, even though it has suggested otherwise in the past.

The Council of Trent in the 16th century made a variety of statements about auricular confession. Perhaps the first one to deal with is the following:

CANON VI.–If any one denieth, either that sacramental confession was instituted, or is necessary to salvation, of divine right; or saith, that the manner of confessing secretly to a priest alone, which the Church hath ever observed from the beginning, and doth observe, is alien from the institution and command of Christ, and is a human invention; let him be anathema. (The Council of Trent The Fourteenth Session The canons and decrees of the sacred and oecumenical Council of Trent, Ed. and trans. J. Waterworth (London: Dolman, 1848), 92-121. Hanover Historical Texts Project Scanned by Hanover College students in 1995. http://history.hanover.edu/texts/trent/ct14.html 05/19/12)

Of course, the above is wrong as this most certainly was not the practice of the early Christians nor the Church of Rome from the beginning. And lest someone claim that I am “anathema” for teaching this, the reality is that even the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that the “sacrament of forgiveness” was changed:

1447 Over the centuries the concrete form in which the Church has exercised this power received from the Lord has varied considerably. During the first centuries the reconciliation of Christians who had committed particularly grave sins after their Baptism (for example, idolatry, murder, or adultery) was tied to a very rigorous discipline, according to which penitents had to do public penance for their sins, often for years, before receiving reconciliation. To this “order of penitents” (which concerned only certain grave sins), one was only rarely admitted and in certain regions only once in a lifetime. During the seventh century Irish missionaries, inspired by the Eastern monastic tradition, took to continental Europe the “private” practice of penance, which does not require public and prolonged completion of penitential works before reconciliation with the Church. From that time on, the sacrament has been performed in secret between penitent and priest. This new practice envisioned the possibility of repetition and so opened the way to a regular frequenting of this sacrament. It allowed the forgiveness of grave sins and venial sins to be integrated into one sacramental celebration. In its main lines this is the form of penance that the Church has practiced down to our day. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1447. Imprimi Potest + Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. Image Books by Doubleday, NY 2003)

So, it took until the 7th century for the modern practice to develop widely, but it seems to have been related to Callistus’ actions combined with a syncretic adaptation of scripture and non-biblical practices that took time to develop (along with the general acceptance of the Greco-Romans to be willing to utilize practices of non-Christian religions with theirs). But the fact is that the Council of Trent was wrong–and this Council put forth many dogmas, all of which had papal approval–thus the Council of Trent disproves the idea of papal infallibility. Catholics really need to realize that.

So, it took until the 7th century for the modern practice to develop widely.

Of course, repentance was taught for becoming a Christian, and acknowledging our sins to God is taught for remaining one:

8 If we say, ‘We have no sin,’ we are deceiving ourselves, and truth has no place in us; 9 if we acknowledge our sins, he is trustworthy and upright, so that he will forgive our sins and will cleanse us from all evil. (1 John 1:9, NJB)

And while the Bible advocates repentance, penance is from outside of sacred scripture as well as the earliest traditions of the true Church of God.

While some Catholics believe that sins cannot be forgiven without the “sacrament of confession,” this is not the case. And, as the Catechism admits (#1447) the current “sacrament of confession” was not an original apostolic practice.

Penance vs. Repentance

The true Church of God which existed since the beginning (see, for example, the page The History of Early Christianity) is not Protestant (see, for example, the article Hope of Salvation: How the Continuing Church of God differ from most Protestants). It bases its beliefs primarily upon the Bible, which teaches:

38 ‘You must repent,’ Peter answered, ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38, NJB)

Repentance was taught for becoming a Christian, and acknowledging our sins to God is taught for remaining one:

8 If we say, ‘We have no sin,’ we are deceiving ourselves, and truth has no place in us; 9 if we acknowledge our sins, he is trustworthy and upright, so that he will forgive our sins and will cleanse us from all evil. (1 John 1:9, NJB)

Christians are not to inflict punishment on ourselves, thinking that this will force God to hear our prayers (Isaiah 58:2-7). God is not interested in penance, but repentance and change. We should not be like certain Muslims and whip our backs, while effectively saying, “Look at our suffering, God, so hear us.”

And while the Bible advocates repentance, penance is from outside of sacred scripture as well as the earliest traditions of the true Church of God. While the Church of Rome tends to claim that its beliefs come from sacred scripture or the traditions of the original apostles, the idea of auricular confession and penance did not come from either source–they are late heresies, essentially adopted from non-Christian sources.

The Bible teaches against a worldly repentance:

10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. (2 Corinthians 7:10)

Here is something that the late Herbert Armstrong wrote related to that:

Admit Your Sins

Prayer and fasting aren’t the only requirements in seeking God. If you will read back over the examples of Daniel and Nehemiah as well as any of the other prophets of God, you will notice that in every case they FREELY ACKNOWLEDGED their own sins and shortcomings. It takes a deeply sincere man to say, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Ps. 139:23-24).

If we are earnestly seeking God and His way, this is the attitude we will be reflecting. We will freely admit our own sins and shortcomings and be earnestly importuning God to show us the right way. Jeremiah said, “O Lord, I know that THE WAY OF MAN IS NOT IN HIMSELF: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing” (Jer. 10: 23-24).

We as individuals do not know how to live. Once we begin to learn that lesson, and look to God to show us how to live and how to change our lives, we are on our way to real repentance.

The steps are simple. Yet it is not easy to completely give of yourself, to admit your own faults and sincerely ask for God’s forgiveness.

Turn From Own Ways

The people of this world outwardly follow many of these steps and yet fall short in the final, most important of all the steps — TURNING FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS. That is why it is so hard to distinguish between the believer and the non-believer. That is why the “distance between our professed faith and our daily performance is astronomical.” So many people of this day and age profess to be repentant — profess Christianity and yet still live in all the wretchedness of their sinful ways. So, finally, one of the most important of all the steps in coming to true repentance is to STOP SINNING! Millions CLAIM membership in a church. They loudly proclaim their belief in Jesus Christ. They testify for Christ, BUT THE FRUIT IS NOT THERE.

All too often our repentance is the worldly repentance spoken of in II Corinthians 7:10. What we really need to come to see and understand is the kind of repentance God speaks of. “Therefore also now, saith the Eternal, Turn ye even to me WITH ALL YOUR HEART, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: and REND YOUR HEART, and not your garments, and turn to the Eternal your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil”. (Joel 2:12-13).

No, God doesn’t want the worldly kind of repentance which is manifested by a trip down the sawdust trail. No, He doesn’t just want your name on the membership rolls of some church. What God wants and what you should come to deeply desire is to SINCERELY acknowledge your sins and ask forgiveness. God wants you to say, “I’M SORRY” — and mean it! He wants you to repent of breaking and to begin obeying His LAW. (Armstrong HW. Just What Do You Mean — Repentance?)

Notice, he taught that sins are to be acknowledged and behavior changed. More on this subject is also covered in the article When You Sin: Do You Really Repent?

All Sins that Are Properly Repented of Will Be Forgiven

While some Catholics believe that sins cannot be forgiven without the “sacrament of confession,” this is not the case. And, as the Catechism admits (#1447) the current “sacrament of confession” was not an original apostolic practice.

While some people erroneously believe that God could not forgive them and that they have possibly committed the “unpardonable sin,” those who feel that way pretty much can be assured that they have not committed it–recall that scripture teaches:

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all iniquity. (1 John 1:9, DRB)

For more details about the “unpardonable sin,” please see the article What is the Unpardonable Sin?

The Bible, like the Continuing Church of God, says to confess sins to one another but mainly to Jesus Christ. Scripture does not say to do so to a priest, nor does the Bible ever authorize penance for sin.
