Deutsche Welle (DW) posted the following:
Jews feel unwelcome in the EU
European Jews … feel that their religious freedoms are being eroded.
Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Vatican’s foreign minister, recently said pandemic safety measures had curtailed religious freedoms. …
In some case, the coronavirus pandemic has served as a pretext to restrict worship. Jews in the European Union are deeply troubled by this development. …
In December, the European Court of Justice upheld a ban on ritual slaughters — a religious and humane method for killing animals for consumption — in Belgium.
The ruling jeopardizes the ability of Jews in Belgium to freely practice their religion. Banning access to and the producing of kosher meat makes Jewish life impossible. Similarly, proposed bans on male circumcision in Denmark, Finland and Iceland run counter to religious freedom.
These policies are de facto bans on Jewish life. Is a Europe “united in diversity” really willing to accept this? While professing to uphold individual liberty, Europe is undermining freedom. …
Over the past decade, many Jews have left EU countries, feeling no longer welcome. That stems not only from the growing number of anti-Semitic incidents, but also from the gradual curtailment of religious freedoms. 03/28/21 https://www.dw.com/en/opinion-as-passover-begins-jews-feel-unwelcome-in-the-eu/a-57028212
Last December, Deutsche Welle (DW) posted the following:
Opinion: ECJ ruling to uphold ban on kosher, halal slaughter a distastrous decision
18 December 2020
In Europe, leaders often laud the continent’s Judeo-Christian heritage. Not only that, 75 years after the industrial mass murder of European Jews in the Shoa, German and European leaders celebrate the return of flourishing Jewish life on the continent. They welcome the fact that liberal, conservative and orthodox Jews are once more part of Europe’s social fabric.
But for how much longer, given the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling that upheld a ban on kosher and halal slaughter in Belgium? The practice is only banned in two or three Belgian regions.
Belgium’s top court had called on the ECJ to determine whether the ban on kosher and halal slaughter — i.e. without stunning the animal — is compatible with the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU and its enshrined principle of religious freedom. The bloc’s top court ruled the ban legal, dealing a blow to pious Jews and Muslims across Europe. …
As European societies grow progressively secular, more and more people take offense to certain religious practices. This pertains to certain rituals, religious needs and sensitivities; religion is no longer taken as seriously as it once was. …
Muslim and Jewish representatives joined forces in challenging the Belgian ban in court. And several months ago, Pinchas Goldschmidt of the Conference of European Rabbis (CER) and Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Issa of theMuslim World League even published a joint letter — replete with a joint letterhead — on the issue.
Jews, again, forced out of Europe?
Back then, Jewish leaders were worried that if EU judges upheld the Belgian ban on kosher slaughter, other countries could follow suit. They projected that this would compel thousands of Jews to leave Europe. Now, the ECJ has spoken on the matter. This is a very sad, indeed fateful, day for religious freedom in Europe.
And by the way: Do not stress the absolute primacy of animal welfare and turn a blind eye to Europe’s meat industry. Consulting the figures quickly shows that kosher and halal slaughter are a marginal issue compared to any one of the continent’s meat processing plants, where livestock are pumped full of chemicals, industrially killed and processed. Granted, they are stunned before being killed. But this is merely to soothe one’s conscience. https://www.dw.com/en/opinion-ecj-ruling-to-uphold-ban-on-kosher-halal-slaughter-a-distastrous-decision/a-55982418
Yes, this is a blow to religious freedom in Europe.
Many people do not realize that Muslims who eat halal consider that kosher foods are also halal compliant.
Now, both Muslims and Jews are being told that their religious views on eating are on lessor importance than what is perceived as cruelty.
Human beings have eaten meat for thousands of years without first stunning the animal.
While intentional cruelty to animals is to be avoided (cf. Proverbs 12:10), many forms of slaughter simply are quick and are not cruel.
The Jewish press also reported about the European Court of Justice’s ruling:
EU court rules authorities can ban kosher and halal slaughter in Belgian region
European Jewish groups decry ruling, say it puts ‘animal welfare above… freedom of religion’; Israel: Decision signals to Jewish communities that they aren’t wanted in Europe …
“The court concludes that the measures contained in the decree allow a fair balance to be struck between the importance attached to animal welfare and the freedom of Jewish and Muslim believers to manifest their religion,” the ruling said. …
Belgium’s Flanders regional government issued the order in 2017, which took effect in 2019, that abattoirs must stun livestock before slaughtering them.
The argument was made that this would “reduce their suffering” but it was widely perceived as a measure targeted at the Muslim halal tradition, and one that also effectively banned the Jewish kosher ritual.
Animal rights activists had pushed for the ban. Both kosher and halal ritual slaughter requires livestock to be conscious when their throats are slit.
But Jewish and Muslim groups had argued the measure was an attack on their traditions and rituals and urged the European court to prioritize religious liberty. 12/17/20 https://www.timesofisrael.com/eu-court-rules-authorities-can-ban-kosher-halal-slaughter-in-belgian-region/
A “fair balance”?
No, you either respect long-established religious practices or you do not.
The ECJ obviously does not. Expect more decisions against aspects of religious rights and freedoms in Europe.
Countries within the EU have made many decisions that go against Islam. And despite the cries against anti-Semitism, this ECJ ruling is anti-Semitic and wrong.
Expect more religious intolerance in the future in Europe (even though many, for a time, will accept a changed form of Roman Catholicism).
Related to Islam’s future in Europe, the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) has the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:
17:19
Here is a link: Will Islam be Pushed Out of Europe?
As far as the Jews go, they have long been persecuted in Europe. This is one more step.
Sadly, more persecution of Jews, Muslims, and biblical Christians is expected as the Bible shows that less religious tolerance is coming.
Now lest people think limitations to religious freedom are only in places like Europe, consider the following related to the USA:
March 26, 2021
H. R. 5, known as “The Equality Act,” was introduced in the United States Senate Judiciary Committee last week. The legislation would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, public accommodations, public education, federal funding, the credit system, and jury duty. H. R. 5 seeks to create a new protected class for people experiencing same-sex attraction or gender discordance from discrimination of any kind. At the heart of this effort is an attempt to dismiss ontological sexual differences as unimportant by redefining gender as only a matter of social construct.
The Equality Act, which has an appealing name, does not actually support equality for everyone. To the contrary, it targets people of faith for whom human sexuality is not merely a matter of personal opinion. …
Under this law, religious faith is limited to a narrow, personal, subjective, and privatized understanding of faith. For years, the brilliant sociologist Peter Berger insightfully and prophetically reminded us of the trends in our culture not only toward secularization and pluralization, but toward the privatization of faith.
Fellow citizens who hold positions of religious faith, however, understand that one’s faith is both objective and subjective, vertical and horizontal, as well as personal and communal. Faith possesses certain public dimensions that should not be outlawed simply because of changes in a public opinion poll. …
When sexual freedom conflicts with religious freedom, The Equality Act devalues religious freedom, stating that “The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993,” which was sponsored in the House of Representatives by then Congressman Chuck Schumer and in the Senate by Senator Ted Kennedy, and passed almost unanimously by Congress before being signed into law by President Bill Clinton, “shall not provide a claim concerning, or a defense to a claim under, a covered title, or provide a basis for challenging the application or enforcement of a covered title.” This language removes traditional religious freedom protections that have characterized Constitutional discussions since the days of the Bill of Rights. Appearing to target those who might disagree with the ideas put forth in the legislation, it effectively brings an end to the kind of dialogue that has long been important for a pluralistic society.
The Equality Act would become the first major piece of legislation in the history of the United States to exclude protections for religious freedom. The bill does not even recognize the sacred rights of religious congregations, communities, or denominations. In fact, it would discriminate against people of faith by adversely affecting religious schools, benevolence organizations, women’s sports, sex specific facilities, and conscience rights. If religious freedom entails the ability of people on their own to reach conclusions about their religious beliefs and to live out those beliefs in the community, the marketplace, and the public square in an unhindered way, then the so-called Equality Act will violate the religious freedom of millions of people in this country.
H. R. 5, which was passed in the House of Representatives this past month, and which President Biden has promised to sign into law, reveals the divisions in American culture. … President Biden commented that “every person should be treated with dignity and respect, and this bill represents a critical step toward ensuring that America lives up to our foundational values of equality and freedom for all.”
Yet, this legislation has been called the most invasive threat to religious liberty ever proposed in America because of its intent to mandate understandings of sexual orientation and gender identity as expectations for all aspects of society. Anyone who maintains a traditional understanding of human sexuality, gender identity, and marriage will no longer be allowed to disagree out of good will and commitment to one’s beliefs but will treated as one guilty of discrimination. The bill also addresses abortion by including the language of “pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition” as that which is forbidden by law. By including this language in the discussions of sexuality, anyone who refuses to perform an abortion would be guilty of sexual discrimination. https://www.christianitytoday.com/edstetzer/2021/march/equality-act-people-of-faith-and-religious-freedom.html
The improperly named Equality Act brought the following scripture to mind:
18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. (2 Peter 2:18-19)
And it will NOT just be the Equality Act that will push Christians to leave.
As many realize, in order to protect the rights of the citizens of the USA nation to practice their religion and to speak even against the government, the Bill of Rights came into effect as Constitutional Amendments on December 15, 1791. Here is the first amendment:
- First amendment — Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
But now we see laws that do respect secular religion as well as those against freedom of speech and even religious speech (e.g. watch: Biden-Harris & Hate Speech).
The situation in the USA will get worse.
Consider the following:
11 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God,
“That I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of the Lord.
12 They shall wander from sea to sea,
And from north to east;
They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord,
But shall not find it.
13 “In that day the fair virgins
And strong young men
Shall faint from thirst.
14 Those who swear by the sin of Samaria,
Who say,
‘As your god lives, O Dan!’
And, ‘As the way of Beersheba lives!’
They shall fall and never rise again.” (Amos 8:11-14)
I believe that the government of the USA will be at least complicit with causing aspects of the truth of the Bible and its prophecies to be removed from at least parts of the internet.
While I often quote just the 11th and 12th verses of Amos 8, consider the two verses that follow.
Verse 14 mentions Samaria. Samaria is a prophetic reference to the USA–for details on that, check out the article: Spiritual Samaritans: Old and New.
The reference to those who say the god of Dan lives is a reference to false religion (cf. Judges 18)–and the old WCG speculated that the idolatry of Dan was why it was NOT listed among the 144,000 in Revelation 7:4-8.
The false religion of promoting the LGBTQ agenda and other sins will not end well for the USA (cf. Romans 1:18-32).
And yes, the USA as we know it will fall and never rise again.
Perhaps it should be mentioned that the old Worldwide Church of God taught that God’s warnings through Amos were pertinent now:
Amos described the national condition in chapter 6: “Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!” … A Message for Today … Today’s religious ceremonies — often masquerading as “Christian” but unaccompanied by true righteousness and justice — are often every bit as hollow and meaningless as those of ancient Israel. … The United States claims to be “One Nation Under God.” Its coinage reads “In God We Trust.” In spite of these noble and high-sounding words, how much of God do we see in Britain and the United States? … If these frightening parallels between ancient Israel and our peoples today hold true, then it might be best to close this article with yet another message from Amos: “Prepare to meet your God, O Israel! (Knowles B. A Message From Amos. Good News, October 1975)
Now, before its destruction, Philadelphian Christians who have gathered together (Zephaniah 2:1-3) will flee.
The old WCG felt that not only would they flee, it also taught that they may be pushed out for having views not compatible with the government and the prevailing religious mood of the nation.
The time will come when the territory of the USA will not wish to tolerate true Christians.
Nor will Europe (Revelation 13, Daniel 7:25).
